Why are rain frogs so round? What's /inside/ of them around such an itty bitty skeleton?

So it turns out this is a really interesting question.

The first thing we must be aware of is that rainfrogs as we see them in videos of them squeaking are not quite the same shape as they are when at rest:

But you are quite right, they are very round. This is exemplified by the skeletal photo you refer to:

So what are we seeing?

Well, firstly, note that the body cavity in these frogs actually envelops the femurs, such that only the tibiofibula (fused in frogs) and the tarsals and metatarsals are outside the body. The arms are quite similarly enveloped, but a bit of the humerus does extend outside the body cavity too. This predisposes them to a rounder body shape.

Next, note the ilia - the U-shaped bone in the pelvic region. These in some breviceptid frogs are synostotically fused with the sacrum - that is to say, they are bound by bone-based connections to the bow-shaped vertebra at their tips. This whole joint seems to be quite smooth, and as a consequence, the back of the frog is quite smooth. The other thing we can see here is that the urostyle (i.e. the frog version of a coccyx) juts quite far beyond the ischium and pubis. This extends the body cavity beyond the hips. Note also that the pelvic girdle seems to be largely below the spine, rather than the typical position for frogs behind it and continuous with it. This makes the legs sit below the spine, rather than at its end, enhnacing the vertical roundness of the animal.

Next, let’s talk some soft tissue. Now, I’m not as familiar with soft-tissue in frogs as I am their skeletons, so you’ll have to bear with me a bit (rawr). Beddard (1908!!) studied the soft tissue of Breviceps verrucosus Rapp 1842. It seems that the majority of the body of these frogs is actually muscle. Beddard noted that muscles join the leg at the knee that extend into the body cavity, such that the inclusion of the thigh in the body cavity is further accentuated by musculature. The rectus abdominalis muscle is unusually large, extending from the lower abdomen up and around the sides of the body. Indeed, this large size appears to be the pattern with all of the major muscles, though in the throat the typical arrangement of large and small muscles is somewhat reversed. On the lateral side of the head, there is a substance that is not muscle, but appears to be loose tissue in which sits what is apparently the thymus gland.

There is a very large gap between the end of the urostyle and the anus (one fifth of the total length of the frog), in which there are almost no muscles, save for the one surrounding the lower cloaca. On either side of this area, between the posterior-most muscles of the thigh, lie two large ‘lymph-hearts’, as described by Beddard. These are between one quarter and one third of the total length of the frog. A further lypmh-sac sits between these lymph-hearts and the skin of the femoral region, and they are thus probably analogous to the femoral lymph-sacs of other frogs.

I find it interesting that Beddard (1908) did not mention any glandular formations in the dorsal region. As is evidence from many images (see below), these frogs are able to secrete a white, sticky, noxious substance from their skin (which they actually have to use during amplexus, as the male is too small relative to the female to mount her properly, and so he sticks himself to her with his glandular glue… kinky).

These glands do not apparently take up a great deal of the cutaneous tissue, and so I suppose are of no consequence to the size of the frog, especially relative to its enormous muscles.

The diet of these frogs consists almost exclusively of hymenopterans and isopterans (ants and termites). Neither of these insect groups are particularly fatty, so it is little surprise that their bodies appear to contain no large fat deposits - fatty bodies extend from the gonads up to the lungs and heart, but these comprise only a tiny fraction of the frog’s mass, and don’t contribute to the round shape. Instead, their bodies are extremely muscular, allowing them to be adept burrowers, ideal for their fossorial lifestyle.

So TL;DR: rain frogs are little balls of muscle (maybe the largest muscle mass relative to body mass of any vertebrate? science just doesn’t know).

“It’s fine, I have a lot.  Besides, I know everyone’s tastes vary.  Do you want help with that food?”

Nightmare nodded, moving to let Fade join in helping them cook.

“Sometimes, I’m surprised that you became a rock star instead of a chef.”

“Well, do you blame me?  I picked up my first electric guitar at 12, I think I’d like to learn how to play it.”

“They’re doing good.  Nel’s out helping shop for baby stuff while I’m here.  I hope she doesn’t cook.”

Nightmare just chuckled as he plated what he was working on and brought it out to the living room.  He set it on the big buffet table they’d set up for the game night.  As soon as Ink saw the food, he moved to take a bite.  Despite their past, he couldn’t help still being on good terms with Nightmare and would definitely admit to how good he thought Nightmare’s cooking was.

Nightmare passed it off with a wave of his hand, “Just wait until Fade brings their food out.  They’re a better cook than I am.”

Dream came out with his food next.  He’d spent all day roasting a ham since he knew how hungry everyone got while drunk.  Cross came down after with a few more games and, after setting them next to the now set out Life, moved to hug Dream.  Dream giggled a bit and hugged him back.

Omni shook their head, though looked at PJ.

“A beer for now, please.”

Killer nodded and got PJ a beer from the case.  They cracked it open as they sat and Omni moved to get a large plate of food for them both.  Fade sat down next to their adoptive dad, Stain.

“Ok, so we got the expansion pack so we could all play.  Everyone chooses a color.”

They gradually chose their own colors and started the game.

Everyone but Ink and Omni were at least somewhat inebriated by the time they finished playing Life.  Ink not being inebriated was a bit strange, seeing as he’d had at least fifteen beers and three glasses of whiskey.  Omni hadn’t drunk anything but they did munch.  PJ was leaning against them, waiting for the next game.  Stain, who'd already finished his last turn, was working on the next activity.  Dream seemed the drunkest, but he hadn't passed out yet, so it was probably fine.  After a moment, Stain came back with nerf pistols.

"There's enough for everyone to have one.  Who wants to play nerf hide and seek tag?"

Everyone was immediately in agreement.

"Alright, so someone is the seeker and carries a nerf pistol.  Every time a seeker finds someone, they need to be shot by the seeker or they aren't tagged.  If they are tagged, they then become a seeker too.  Anywhere is free game for hiders.  Who wants to seek first?"

Nightmare raised his hand.

"Alright," Stain handed him a nerf pistol and set the rest on the table. "If you become a seeker, pick one up.  Pops, count to 60."

Nightmare nodded and closed his eyes.  Shuffling could be heard.  Cross currently had his husband on his back, carrying him to a closet on the highest floor.  All the kids Nightmare had were being watched by Red and Blue at Ink's mansion since it had a surplus of rooms.  They had plenty of rooms.  He took Dream into the farthest room from the staircase, carefully setting him down in the walk-in closet.

"Alright, Dreamy.  You've gotta stay quiet or they'll find you."

"Is that bad…?"

"No, but you'll lose the game."

He nodded with a small giggle and Cross closed the door, going to find his own place to hide.

Knowing his husband really well, Nightmare was able to find Killer first.  He was hiding in the library, small enough to fit in the shadows of one of the towering shelves.  Nightmare just examined the shelves, debating on which one Killer was resting on, before letting off a bullet at random.  He heard a small, boney thunk and a whisper of an ow.

"Got you."

"Fine, you got me."

Killer started to climb down.  Nightmare moved a tentacle to help him.  He couldn't have his husband getting hurt.  Not since he was the only doctor that could fix him immediately.

"Alright, go grab a pistol."

Killer nodded and ran off.

Stain took a deep breath as he finally situated himself with Hope.  They were hiding in the tub in one of the bathrooms and it was obvious Stain may have to carry Hope once they were found.  Hope, having lower magic, was much more affected by alcohol, so even just a can was pretty much half a bottle of whiskey to him.

When Killer inevitably pulled the curtain back to reveal the two, he immediately became a put worried, seeing as Hope was heavily passed out against Stain.

“We should be alright… we can get him on the couch and we can get him water when he wakes…”

Killer nodded, simply shooting Stain and running off to continue what he was doing.

He quietly padded down the hall, pistol in his hand.  Out of all the places he would know Fade would hide, he could not, for the life of himself, find his adopted child.  Stain guessed he would have to look in different places.  His first place of search?  The kitchen.  Fade always loved the kitchen and, with how small they were, he wouldn’t doubt they’d shoved themselves in the pantry.  He took a quick peek… only to find out he was wrong.  They weren’t hiding in the pantry.  So then where were they?

They couldn’t fit in any cupboards.  But Stain’s partially inebriated mind definitely thought so, and he started searching the cupboard like he was raiding the kitchen.  Fade was in the cupboards!  Specifically, the cupboards under the sink.  Fade had moved it all to a separate cupboard and squeezed themselves in.  Stain quickly shot them and moved to help them out.

“How did you fit in there?”

“I’ve always been small.”

"Still.  Wow."

They just nodded and went to get a nerf pistol.

In the meantime, Killer had found PJ and Omni.  It hadn't been hard, since Omni had agreed to make out in the room they were hiding in while waiting.  Now, they were teamed and hunting for others.  Their first go-to would've been Ink since he was usually easy to find depending on the person.  But even then, years of Ink having learned how to hide made him even more dangerous for the seeker.  They paused their search for him when they heard a yell and realized that it probably wasn't a good idea for Ink to be hiding from Nightmare.  They quickly followed the yell.

Nightmare had Ink restrained, mostly because Ink had gone defensive and currently had his hatchet in his hand.  He was struggling to be let go and PJ set their pistol down to comfort their dad.

"Dad, calm down.  It's ok.  It's just hide-and-seek.  No one's gonna hurt you."

"H-How do you kn-know…?"

"Has Nightmare actually hurt you…?"

That's right.  It was Nightmare.  Not Dark.  He hadn't been hurt.  It was just a game.  Ink took in a breath and Nightmare carefully set him down.

"Sorry…"

"It's ok… I'm just… not gonna play for now…"

Nightmare nodded and PJ picked their pistol up again, going with Omni and Nightmare to find the last ones hiding.

Error now knew why Ink always felt so safe hiding under the bed whenever he got scared.  It was small and cozy and it would be hard to get him out without lifting the bed or him getting out himself.  Despite that, he held his breath when he heard a couple of sets of footsteps and a door open.  Someone was searching the room for him.  It was Stain and Fade.  There was the sound of something being set on the desk in the room before the bed creaked, being lifted up.

"Good morning," a nerf bullet hit him smack-dab in the forehead and he giggled a bit, moving to carefully push himself out.

"Why hello there."

"Did you sleep well?"

Error stood, "Very."

"Dad's downstairs on the couch next to Hope.  Otherwise, we found Cross and we're gonna gang up on Dream."

"I think I'll go to Inky.  What happened?"

"Got a bit scared by Pops, but he's ok."

Error nodded and went to find Ink.

Nightmare put a finger to his lips as Cross led the way.  They were all locked and loaded.  Once they got to the room, Cross went over to the walk-in closet door.  He put his hand on the handle and carefully ripped it open.  They were all quickly met with Dream's shrieking laughter as they fired everything at him.  Once they were all out of bullets, Cross moved to check on him while the others picked up the bullets.  He pulled Dream gently against his chest and Dream started to drift to sleep.  He hadn't had alcohol in forever, so it wasn't surprising.

He picked up his husband and took him downstairs to rest.  Error and Ink had set up Monopoly while waiting.  Cross sat at the table, holding Dream in his lap.  After a minute, everyone else took their spots to play.  Killer made sure Hope had something to drink upon waking.  Dream had easily fallen asleep against Cross.  Cross just smiled as they played.

Dream was passed out for about an hour before he started to wake up a bit.  The game was still going and he seemed confused since Killer was now yelling at PJ for making him go bankrupt.  Ink laughed a bit from next to Error.

“Monopoly, the game that tears families apart.”

Dream giggled a bit and Cross looked down at him.

“Well, hello there, Dreamy.  Sleep good?”

Dream nodded and moved to get up.  He was kinda hungry.  Cross let him stand, watching him go over to the food table and get himself some turkey.  He seemed content as he sat down again, this time next to Cross, and ate.  Once he was done, he went to put his dishes in the sink and seemed to just completely disappear.  Cross was a bit concerned but kept playing.

15 minutes after Dream disappeared, he came back, holding one of the nerf pistols.  He pointed it at Nightmare, the banker.

“Gimme the money.”

Ink was starting to laugh.  Nightmare didn’t respond at first, earning him a nerf bullet to the nose.

“I said gimme.”

Once Nightmare seemed to process what Dream meant by money, Nightmare took a one-dollar monopoly bill and gave it to Dream.  Dream pretty much threw the pistol down.

“Crossy, we’re rich now!”

Ink burst out laughing and Cross stood, hugging Dream.

“That’s great, Dreamy.  Now, why don’t we get you some water and go home?”

“Ok!”

You saved me, so I return the favor. (TMNT2016 Shredder X Reader) Part 2

(For all Krang lovers, I’m sorry^^. I love this slimy alien myself, and he is my favorite character next to Shredder in the TMNT series.)

Male:

Pain...insufferable pain...that was the only thing he felt right now. Every nerve in his body burned like he was on fire, and he felt like his blood was acid. Shredder moaned in pure agony as another syringe was interjected, and he felt the liquid mixing with his blood. Nausea rose in his stomach as he pressed his eyelids together, trying to ignore that cruel laugh that came from the creature before him.

Krang licked over his lips as he pulled the little needle back and let some drops fall to the floor. “Aw, what’s wrong, Shredder? Is the pain too much to bear?”, the brain-like warlord asked and wiped the saliva from his plump lip, letting it drop to the floor with a sickening sound, not really helping with the human’s nausea problem.

“Y-You bastard!”, he gasped out, trying his best to swallow the acid of his stomach that traveled up his throat. “W-When I get out of here, I will…”

The alien interrupted him with a harsh slap on his cheek, laughing cruelly as he did so. “You’re not going anywhere, puny little earthling. You are nothing more than my test-object, and even if you would manage to get free, you’re so full of substances, you won’t get far.”

Again, he licked his lips and patted his naked shoulder, before retracted himself into the robot-suit he has repaired, leaving the room, but before he closed the door, his voice echoed through the room one last time. “And I will be finished with you soon anyway, Oroku Saki!”

The human let out a week sounding growl, feeling how the burning liquid ran with his blood through his whole body and let him know where all veins he possessed were. His head fell back, hitting the hard surface of the wall, closing his eyes, trying to distract himself for the sake of his sanity. The first thing he could think of was Y/N, the man he saved from a rapist a while ago.

He didn’t know why he did it, but he was glad. The memory of the young man who talked to him like a person and not like a monster, the knowledge that someone accepted him as a man was good for his already twisted mind and helped him through that heartless torture that insane alien put him through.

A week after Krang had suffered a humiliating defeat, he had freed him and started to use him as a test subject for all those liquids in his laboratory, may it be healing potions or poison…everything was tested on him.

He had lost count of how many times he tried to force himself to throw up, but that twisted warlord had already foreseen that possibility and injected something that made it impossible.

On some days, it wasn’t so bad, but in others, it just burned like acid was thrown on and inside him…and today was one of them.

But if it was only that this insane thing was using him for. He, too, lost count of creatures he had already fought against.

Every time Krang wanted to know how what creatures he could use to take over planet earth, he let him fight against one of his “prizes” he got when he overthrew other dimensions. He survived but got plenty of new scars.

Hours of pure suffering passed until Krang finally returned, a grin on his slimy face. “Hello, my dear earthling”, he purred and forced him to look at him. “Did you have fun?”

“Y-You sick…l-little.”, the human tried to curse him, but his words got stuck in his throat. He had no strength left, he was trained, and his muscular body felt like he was just pushed into a fire that burned him alive. “What was that? I’m afraid I can’t hear you!”,

The warlord laughed…but it soon turned into a serious face.

Oh, no…what is coming now?

“I have run out of tests, Shredder. And you know what this means, do you?” He gave no response, and just glared at the brain-like creature before him, his eyes hard, his face impassive, but on the inside, he was practically melting with fear.

“No, of course not, your pathetic little creature! Don’t worry, I didn’t expect that much of you!”, Krang laughed and wrapped one of his tentacles around his neck, squeezing it just enough for him to cut off his airway.

“You’ve exhausted your usefulness to me, little human! I’ve got no reason to keep you now, and that means it’s time for me to take out the trash!”

The warlord laughed and released his neck, causing him to cough. Nausea grabbed him, and he gagged a few times before it finally stilled, wincing as his stomach cramped and stung like it was impaled with little knives.

“W-What a-are you going to do right now, you insane b-bubble gum!”, he rasped and spit blood out of his mouth, that an open lip has filled up. “K-Kill me? Then g-go on, if you thi-think I am scared of d-death, t-then you are w-wrong!”

The older male merely laughed at him and slapped his shoulders. “No, my dear Shredder, I’m not going to kill you, I’ve got to save my strength for other things. I rather thought about just dropping you in the middle of New York, bleeding, suffering and left to die. And with what you did, I doubt that anyone who finds you will save you.”

Krang, again, released a hoarse laugh and injected something in the human’s veins. In a few seconds, Shredder knew no more…

Pain…pain, so much pain. Everything on his body was on fire. Shredder groaned as he regained consciousness, slowly opening his eyes, but his vision was more than just blurry.

The only thing he knew was that he was somewhere barely lit. He tried to roll over, but he couldn’t even move, he could even barely breathe.

He coughed and tasted a familiar liquid on his tongue. Blood, and not a little. He felt as it ran out of his mouth and down his face, and his ears caught the sound of the drops hitting the surface he laid on.

He closed his eyes again and tried to relax, hoping that death or at least the comforting darkness would come soon to claim him.

But suddenly, he heard something…were those sounds steps? Yes, they were. Fast footsteps that seemed to approach him. Hope suddenly bloomed in his chest, but just as fast as it came, it disappeared, and Krangs words suddenly echoed through his mind. With a pang, he realized that the warlord was right. Who would help him?

Only people from his clan would, but he doubted that they would be there. They didn’t even know that he was alive. They were probably hiding somewhere and won’t come out until its safe. Damn cowards!! It was probably just some random man or woman who was walking by and has spotted his body on the floor.

The steps stopped, and the breathing of the person hitched, and it was that moment that he knew that they had recognized him and was probably going to call the police.

A few moments passed, and he only waited for their voice telling the cops that he was here, but there was only silence. Then, suddenly, the stranger started to walk again.

He felt a hand touching his shoulders and turn him to what he guessed could only be his direction and something soft wiped away the blood that was already starting to dry.

“Saki…”

That voice…

That beautiful voice…

Y/N, he thought, and his eyes opened. He stared at the blur that faced him and opened his mouth to call for help, but all that came out was blood and saliva. “N-No…don't talk. R-Rest. I-I will call someone…”The grip on his shoulder tightened and he saw how the blur, that was the one he saved a while ago, sat down next to him.

Shredder wanted to make a sound of protest, but he couldn’t, the only thing that he could do was to widen his eyes, but he was sure that the young man didn’t notice.

“Hello, Andrew!?”, he heard the soft voice. “Yeah, I know, it’s in the middle of the night, but I need you to do me a favor. Listen, I found a friend of mine here in the park near my house, and something’s wrong with him. He can’t move, can’t talk and coughs blood.

Five minutes? Good, bye. Oh, another thing…please don’t call the police! I’ll explain everything when he’s okay.”

The Ninja felt the warm hand slip up to his face, the blurry frame of the young man he had saved leaned over him, and he felt the warm breathing hitting his face. “My friend’s coming, he’s a doctor. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he won’t call the cops. You’re safe, trust me!”

Shredder just coughed, spitting blood, before closing his eyes, resting against the person that was now saving him. He said his friend was coming, and that he was a doctor, so a little rest until he arrived wouldn’t hurt…right?

“Is h....g...ng to b...al….t?”, he heard a voice ask as the darkness around him slowly faded and pulled him back into the world of awareness. “Y..”, came as just as blurry answer. He recognized a different voice, but he couldn’t make out more, he felt too exhausted. “H...n… a lot of r…”

He groaned as he slowly moved his right arm to his forehead and began to rub the sweated skin with his scarred fingers, trying his best to ease the burning headache. On his hardest, he tried to remember what happened. The last thing Shredder could recall was lying in the park, unable to move, chocking on his own blood.

Suddenly, warm fingers wrapped around his hands and began to massage his knuckles. Slowly, he began to open his eyes, staring at the beautiful face of the man…Y/N. A small smile came across his scarred lips as he did so. The kind human gave him one in return and whispered, “Good morning, Saki.”

His smile vanished as another man leaned over him and eyed him with a stern expression. Careful, he reached down and shone with some sort of flashlight right into his pupils, before retreating and walking away.

“His eyes show no abnormal activities, but I’ll keep an eye on him for the next few days just to be sure.” “When will I be able to get him home?”, he heard Y/N ask and looked over to the older man.

“Three or four days. We almost lost him yesterday after all.”, he answered and came into view again, holding a bandage. “Those need a change once a day, and you’ll have to help him to walk. He’s really weak.”

Shredder would have laughed if his whole body didn’t burn like he just bathed in acid. He could feel that he had barely the strength to hold himself awake, there’s no need to rub that into his face.

“He’ll probably sleep a lot, but don’t worry, that’s normal.” Y/N nodded and squeezed his hand before smiling down at him with a kindness that made his cold heart melt.

Never in his life had someone cared for him as much as the younger male did, not even his mother.

 “Hey, Saki.”, the man he saved spoke in a soft tune and ran his fingers through his hair, which was still wet from sweat. He made a small noise in response and gave another weak smile.

“I’m glad you’re awake. We almost lost you yesterday, you know?”, he said, and again, traced his knuckles. “You’re probably tired, aren’t you?” Shredder nodded and gave a small groan as harsh pain shot through his neck.

“Well then, rest. I’ll be there when you wake up.” Without skipping a beat, Shredder listened and closed his eyes, falling asleep within a minute.

The days passed quicker than the man could have believed.

He was sitting in his room, a book that Y/N had brought him yesterday, in his hands. The door opened, and he turned his attention from the story to the young man, who entered, and smiled as he closed it behind him.

“Hello, Saki!”, he greeted and walked over to him, sitting down next to the bed.  “Greetings Y/N.”, he chuckled, and laid the book down on his lab, getting into a more comfortable position.  “I’ve already expected you to come.”

“So, tell me, how are you feeling today?” Saki chuckled, running his fingers through his hair. “Quite well, thank you. How about yourself?” The younger smiled. “Oh, I’m good.”

“Today is the day.”, the Shredder mumbled and sat up. “Today is the day I finally leave this goddamn place.” Y/N nodded, a wide smile on his face. “Yeah. I can imagine that you’re happy. Two days ago, you couldn’t even walk, and yesterday, you already ran through the gardens without any problems. It's really surprising how well and fast you're healing.”

Saki chuckled, the smile not leaving his scarred lips. “Yes, and that all thanks to you. If you hadn’t called your friend, I wouldn’t be alive now. You had the choice to let me die, and yet, you saved me and considering my past, I would have deserved to bleed out.”

“No.”, Y/N suddenly argued and grabbed his wrist, pulling his hand up to his face. Saki understood and took his cheek into his palm, stroking over the s/c skin. “You don’t. You might be the Shredder, but you’re not as bad as people say.” The older man’s eyes widened. “Y-You know?”, he asked, quite shocked that he was still sitting so calmly next to him.

“Yeah. The morning after you left, the TV reported that you broke free from prison. I was quite surprised and hoped to see you soon so that you could answer some questions, but as you didn’t come, I decided to search for you. You’re a criminal, so I figured that you would roam through the streets at night. When I found you in the park, I was shocked, and scared you wouldn’t make it.”

The younger man sighed and pressed his face even closer into his palm. “I was so glad that the doctor said that you were going to survive.” “You’re full of surprises.”, Saki whispered and stroked over the soft skin.

“So are you. You saved me, a stranger that had no use to you, from a disgusting guy like R/N and I returned the favor.” Saki couldn’t help but laugh heartily, pulling the smaller/taller man into a hug. “You’re an even kinder soul than I imagined.”

“Saki, I’m home!”, a soft voice called into the room, causing the ninja to turn his head to the direction of the source. A small smile came across his scarred lips as he spotted Y/N, who just closed the door that led to the kitchen behind him.

“Hello, my love. How was your day?”, he greeted back, and walked up to him, lifting his hand to close it around his neck, pulling him into a quick kiss on the lips. “It was good, but a lot of work of course.”, was the response as he pulled back.

“What is that wonderful smell?” Saki hummed and smiled as he walked over to the food he cooked. “Well, the week’s over, and you’re finally home. I have taken this weekend off so we can finally spend some time together, starting with dinner.”

“Awesome!”, Y/N laughed and threw his jacket over one of the chairs, before sitting down on it. “What did you make?” “F/F (Favorite Food) of course.”, he bowed and opened the drawer to take two plates out of it when a stabbing pain suddenly ran through his body.

He hissed out as he shot up and grabbed his chest, rubbing the aching spot and felt how the bandages underneath his shirt moved with his fingers. “Saki! Are you alright?!”, the younger man cried out in shock and jumped off his seat. A few seconds passed before the expression of pain finally left his face.

Y/N  hugged him, pressing his body tightly against his. “Yes. I’m okay. It’s just that blasted wound again.” He sighed in relief when the pain passed completely.

After a few weeks – in which they became lovers – he had left the hospital, he collapsed again. The doctors, who stayed silent after a grand payment coming from Karai, who had become Y/N’s best friend after she had heard that he had saved her master, found out, that his body had slowed aging. One year felt for his body felt like a half year and the process of that “slowing down” was incredibly painful.

After one year, it had become bearable for the ninja, but when he gets injured, as he had a week ago when he fought against a few people of his clan so that his muscles could claim the strength that they once had back, it would hurt far more.

The Food-Clans scientists said that the change was not yet complete, and wounds would hurt far more until it was. It would pass soon, they said. The young man wasn’t sure if he could trust them, but he kept his eyes on his lover anyway. He even moved into the ninja master’s personal quarters.

Saki pulled back, kissed Y/N’s forehead and patted his shoulders. “Don’t worry, I am alright. I just needed a second. And now sit down. I didn’t waste my whole afternoon for the dinner to get cold!”, he laughed, and pushed his lover towards the table, before bowing to the drawer yet again. This time, the pain decided to leave him alone.

He put the food onto the plates, and walked over to the table, setting it down in front of you before taking the seat himself, and they started to eat. Saki’s dark eyes stared at his lover’s face the whole time while said human literally devoured the food, a sign that he hadn’t eaten all day, a small smile on his scarred face. “Mmmh! This is so good!”, he shouted when he was done, and the older man couldn’t help but laugh at his behavior.

“Thank you, my love.”, he chuckled after he had swallowed the last bite. “You’re awesome!” Y/N grinned brightly at him and reached out for the scarred hand, to which he complied. “Same to you. Without you, I would not be here today and rotting away in a cell or in a grave instead.”

“Yeah, but you saved me too. How knows what R/N would have done to me if you didn’t show up. I don’t even want to think about it.” He lifted his hands to his scarred lips and kissed the back of it with his soft, warm lips.

“So, enough talking. I don’t want to darken the mood. Do you want a dessert?”, he asked, and a grin slowly formed on lips. He mirrored it. “It depends on what it is...or which dessert you mean?” He chuckled and rose his eyebrow. “And which one do you want?”, he asked, even though he already knew the answer.

Y/N chuckled and stood up, walking over to the older man, his hand never leaving the other. “You know exactly which one, you bastard.”, he hissed before grabbing his strong shoulder and pulling the smaller/taller body up for a kiss. “Indeed I do.”, he mumbled against his lips.

They kissed yet again, much harder this time, their tongues fighting for dominance. What they failed to notice, however, was that Karai, who had a key to the private quarters and needed some sort of decision for something the young man didn’t want to be involved in, was standing in the doorframe, a surprised look on her face, which turned into a soft smile when after she watched them making out for a second.

Very slowly, she retreated, careful not make a sound. She didn’t want to disturb those two love birds. She turned, walked out of the quarters and along the halls, and when she was out of ear reach, she began to laugh.

Female:

“Y-You bastard!”, he gasped out, trying his best to swallow the acid of his stomach that traveled up his throat. “W-When I get out of here, I will…”

The alien interrupted him with a harsh slap on his cheek, laughing cruelly as he did so. “You’re not going anywhere, puny little earthling. You are nothing more than my test-object, and even if you would manage to get free, you’re so full of substances, you won’t get far.”

Again, he licked his lips and patted his naked shoulder before retracted himself into the robot-suit he has repaired, leaving the room, but before he closed the door, his voice echoed through the room one last time. “And I will be finished with you soon anyway, Oroku Saki!”

The human let out a week sounding growl, feeling how the burning liquid ran with his blood through his whole body and let him know where all veins he possessed were. His head fell back, hitting the hard surface of the wall, he closed his eyes, trying to distract himself for the sake of his sanity. The first thing he could think of was Y/N, the woman he saved from a rapist a while ago.

He didn’t know why he did it, but he was glad. The memory of the young woman who talked to him like a person and not like a monster, the knowledge that someone accepted him as a man was good for his already twisted mind and helped him through that heartless torture that insane alien put him through.

A week after Krang had suffered a humiliating defeat, he had freed him and started to use him as a test subject for all those liquids in his laboratory, may it be healing potions or poison…everything was tested on him.

He had lost count of how many times he tried to force himself to throw up, but that twisted warlord had already foreseen that possibility and injected something that made it impossible.

On some days, it wasn’t so bad, but in others, it just burned like acid was thrown on and inside him…and today was one of them.

But if it was only that this insane thing was using him for. He, too, lost count of creatures he had already fought against.

Every time Krang wanted to know how what creatures he could use to take over planet earth, he let him fight against one of his “prizes” he got when he overthrew other dimensions. He survived but got plenty of new scars.

Hours of pure suffering passed until Krang finally returned, a grin on his slimy face. “Hello, my dear earthling”, he purred and forced him to look at him. “Did you have fun?”

“Y-You sick…l-little.”, the human tried to curse him, but his words got stuck in his throat. He had no strength left, he was trained, and his muscular body felt like he was just pushed into a fire that burned him alive. “What was that? I’m afraid I can’t hear you!”,

The warlord laughed…but it soon turned into a serious face.

Oh, no…what is coming now?

“I have run out of tests, Shredder. And you know what this means, do you?” He gave no response, and just glared at the brain-like creature before him, his eyes hard, his face impassive, but on the inside, he was practically melting with fear.

“No, of course not, your pathetic little creature! Don’t worry, I didn’t expect that much of you!”, Krang laughed and wrapped one of his tentacles around his neck, squeezing it just enough for him to cut off his airway.

“You’ve exhausted your usefulness to me, little human! I’ve got no reason to keep you now, and that means it’s time for me to take out the trash!”

The warlord laughed and released his neck, causing him to cough. Nausea grabbed him, and he gagged a few times before it finally stilled, wincing as his stomach cramped and stung like it was impaled with little knives.

“W-What a-are you going to do right now, you insane b-bubble gum!”, he rasped and spit blood out of his mouth, that an open lip has filled up. “K-Kill me? Then g-go on, if you thi-think I am scared of d-death, t-then you are w-wrong!”

The older male merely laughed at him and slapped his shoulders. “No, my dear Shredder, I’m not going to kill you, I’ve got to save my strength for other things. I rather thought about just dropping you in the middle of New York, bleeding, suffering and left to die. And with what you did, I doubt that anyone who finds you will save you.”

Krang, again, released a hoarse laugh and injected something in the human’s veins. In a few seconds, Shredder knew no more…

Pain…pain, so much pain. Everything on his body was on fire. Shredder groaned as he regained consciousness, slowly opening his eyes, but his vision was more than just blurry.

The only thing he knew was that he was somewhere barely lit. He tried to roll over, but he couldn’t even move, he could even barely breathe.

He coughed and tasted a familiar liquid on his tongue. Blood, and not a little. He felt as it ran out of his mouth and down his face, and his ears caught the sound of the drops hitting the surface he laid on.

He closed his eyes again and tried to relax, hoping that death or at least the comforting darkness would come soon to claim him.

But suddenly, he heard something…were those sounds steps? Yes, they were. Fast footsteps that seemed to approach him. Hope suddenly bloomed in his chest, but just as fast as it came, it disappeared, and Krangs words suddenly echoed through his mind. With a pang, he realized that the warlord was right. Who would help him?

Only people from his clan would, but he doubted that they would be there. They didn’t even know that he was alive. They were probably hiding somewhere and won’t come out until its safe. Damn cowards!! It was probably just some random man or woman who was walking by and has spotted his body on the floor.

The steps stopped, and the breathing of the person hitched, and it was that moment that he knew that they had recognized him and was probably going to call the police.

A few moments passed, and he only waited for their voice telling the cops that he was here, but there was only silence. Then, suddenly, the stranger started to walk again.

He felt a hand touching his shoulders and turn him to what he guessed could only be his direction and something soft wiped away the blood that was already starting to dry.

“Saki…”

That voice…

That beautiful voice…

Y/N, he thought, and his eyes opened. He stared at the blur that faced him and opened his mouth to call for help, but all that came out was blood and saliva. “N-No…don't talk. R-Rest. I-I will call someone…”The grip on his shoulder tightened and he saw how the blur, that was the one he saved a while ago, sat down next to him.

Shredder wanted to make a sound of protest, but he couldn’t, the only thing that he could do was to widen his eyes, but he was sure that the young woman didn’t notice.

“Hello, Andrew!?”, he heard the soft voice. “Yeah, I know, it’s in the middle of the night, but I need you to do me a favor. Listen, I found a friend of mine here in the park near my house, and something’s wrong with him. He can’t move, can’t talk and coughs blood.

Five minutes? Good, bye. Oh, another thing…please don’t call the police! I’ll explain everything when he’s okay.”

The Ninja felt the warm hand slip up to his face, the blurry frame of the young woman he had saved leaned over him, and he felt the warm breathing hitting his face. “My friend’s coming, he’s a doctor. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he won’t call the cops. You’re safe, trust me!”

Shredder just coughed, spitting blood, before closing his eyes, resting against the person that was now saving him. She said her friend was coming, and that he was a doctor, so a little rest until he arrived wouldn’t hurt…right?

“Is h....g...ng to b...al….t?”, he heard a voice ask as the darkness around him slowly faded and pulled him back into the world of awareness. “Y..”, came as just as blurry answer. He recognized a different voice, but he couldn’t make out more, he felt too exhausted. “H...n… a lot of r…”

He groaned as he slowly moved his right arm to his forehead and began to rub the sweated skin with his scarred fingers, trying his best to ease the burning headache. On his hardest, he tried to remember what happened. The last thing Shredder could recall was lying in the park, unable to move, chocking on his own blood.

Suddenly, warm fingers wrapped around his hands and began to massage his knuckles. Slowly, he began to open his eyes, staring at the beautiful face of the woman…Y/N. A small smile came across his scarred lips as he did so. The kind human gave him one in return and whispered, “Good morning, Saki.”

His smile vanished as another man leaned over him and eyed him with a stern expression. Carefully, he reached down and shone with some sort of flashlight right into his pupils, before retreating and walking away.

“His eyes show no abnormal activities, but I’ll keep an eye on him for the next few days just to be sure.” “When will I be able to get him home?”, he heard Y/N ask and looked over to the older man.

“Three or four days. We almost lost him yesterday after all.”, he answered and came into view again, holding a bandage. “Those need a change once a day, and you’ll have to help him to walk. He’s really weak.”

Shredder would have laughed if his whole body didn’t burn like he just bathed in acid. He could feel that he had barely the strength to hold himself awake, there’s no need to rub that into his face.

“He’ll probably sleep a lot, but don’t worry, that’s normal.” Y/N nodded and squeezed his hand before smiling down at him with a kindness that made his cold heart melt.

Never in his life had someone cared for him as much as the younger female did, not even his mother.

 “Hey, Saki.”, the woman he saved spoke in a soft tune and ran her fingers through his hair, which was still wet from sweat. He made a small noise in response and gave another weak smile.

“I’m glad you’re awake. We almost lost you yesterday, you know?”, she said, and again, traced his knuckles. “You’re probably tired, aren’t you?” Shredder nodded and gave a small groan as harsh pain shot through his neck.

“Well then, rest. I’ll be there when you wake up.” Without skipping a beat, Shredder listened and closed his eyes, falling asleep within a minute.

The days passed quicker than the man could have believed.

He was sitting in his room, a book that Y/N had brought him yesterday, in his hands. The door opened, and he turned his attention from the story to the young woman who entered and smiled as she closed it behind her.

“Hello, Saki!”, she greeted and walked over to him, sitting down next to the bed.  “Greetings Y/N.”, he chuckled, and laid the book down on his lab, getting into a more comfortable position.  “I’ve already expected you to come.”

“So, tell me, how are you feeling today?” Saki chuckled, running his fingers through his hair. “Quite well, thank you. How about yourself?” The younger smiled. “Oh, I’m good.”

“Today is the day.”, the Shredder mumbled and sat up. “Today is the day I finally leave this goddamn place.” Y/N nodded, a wide smile on her face. “Yeah. I can imagine that you’re happy. Two days ago, you couldn’t even walk, and yesterday, you already ran through the gardens without any problems. It's really surprising how well and fast you're healing.”

Saki chuckled, the smile not leaving his scarred lips. “Yes, and that all thanks to you. If you hadn’t called your friend, I wouldn’t be alive now. You had the choice to let me die, and yet, you saved me and considering my past, I would have deserved to bleed out.”

“No.”, Y/N suddenly argued and grabbed his wrist, pulling his hand up to her face. Saki understood and took her cheek into his palm, stroking over the s/c skin. “You don’t. You might be the Shredder, but you’re not as bad as people say.” The older man’s eyes widened. “Y-You know?”, he asked, quite shocked that she was still sitting so calmly next to him.

“Yeah. The morning after you left, the TV reported that you broke free from prison. I was quite surprised and hoped to see you soon so that you could answer some questions, but as you didn’t come, I decided to search for you. You’re a criminal, so I figured that you would roam through the streets at night. When I found you in the park, I was shocked, and scared you wouldn’t make it.”

The younger woman sighed and pressed her face even closer into his palm. “I was so glad that the doctor said that you were going to survive.” “You’re full of surprises.”, Saki whispered and stroked over the soft skin.

“So are you. You saved me, a stranger that had no use to you, from a disgusting guy like R/N and I returned the favor.” Saki couldn’t help but laugh heartily, pulling the smaller/taller woman into a hug. “You’re an even kinder soul than I imagined.”

“Saki, I’m home!”, a soft voice called into the room, causing the ninja to turn his head to the direction of the source. A small smile came across his scarred lips as he spotted Y/N, who just closed the door that led to the kitchen behind her.

“Hello, my love. How was your day?”, he greeted back, and walked up to her, lifting his hand to close it around her neck, pulling her into a quick kiss on the lips. “It was good, but a lot of work of course.”, was the response as she pulled back.

“What is that wonderful smell?” Saki hummed and smiled as he walked over to the food he cooked. “Well, the week’s over, and you’re finally home. I have taken this weekend off so we can finally spend some time together, starting with dinner.”

“Awesome!”, Y/N laughed and threw the jacket over one of the chairs, before sitting down on it. “What did you make?” “F/F (Favorite Food) of course.”, he bowed and opened the drawer to take two plates out of it when a stabbing pain suddenly ran through his body.

He hissed out as he shot up and grabbed his chest, rubbing the aching spot and felt how the bandages underneath his shirt moved with his fingers. “Saki! Are you alright?!”, the younger woman cried out in shock and jumped off her seat. A few seconds passed before the expression of pain finally left his face.

Y/N hugged him, pressing her body tightly against his. “Yes. I’m okay. It’s just that blasted wound again.” He sighed in relief when the pain passed completely.

After a few weeks – in which they became lovers – he had left the hospital, he collapsed again. The doctors, who stayed silent after a grand payment coming from Karai, who had become Y/N’s best friend after she had heard that she had saved her master, found out, that his body had slowed aging. One year felt for his body felt like a half year and the process of that “slowing down” was incredibly painful.

After one year, it had become bearable for the ninja, but when he gets injured, as he had a week ago when he fought against a few people of his clan so that his muscles could claim the strength that they once had back, it would hurt far more.

The Food-Clans scientists said that the change was not yet complete, and wounds would hurt far more until it was. It would pass soon, they said. The young woman wasn’t sure if she could trust them, but he kept her eyes on her lover anyway. She even moved into the ninja master’s personal quarters.

Saki pulled back, kissed Y/N’s forehead and patted her shoulders. “Don’t worry, I am alright. I just needed a second. And now sit down. I didn’t waste my whole afternoon for the dinner to get cold!”, he laughed, and pushed his lover towards the table, before bowing to the drawer yet again. This time, the pain decided to leave him alone.

He put the food onto the plates, and walked over to the table, setting it down in front of her before taking the seat himself, and they started to eat. Saki’s dark eyes stared at his lover’s face the whole time while said human literally devoured the food, a sign that she hadn’t eaten all day, a small smile on his scarred face. “Mmmh! This is so good!”, she shouted when she was done, and the older man couldn’t help but laugh at her behavior.

“Thank you, my love.”, he chuckled after he had swallowed the last bite. “You’re awesome!” Y/N grinned brightly at him and reached out for the scarred hand, to which he complied. “Same to you. Without you, I would not be here today and rotting away in a cell or in a grave instead.”

“Yeah, but you saved me too. How knows what R/N would have done to me if you didn’t show up. I don’t even want to think about it.” He lifted her hands to his scarred lips and kissed the back of it with his soft, warm lips.

“So, enough talking. I don’t want to darken the mood. Do you want a dessert?”, he asked, and a grin slowly formed on lips. She mirrored it. “It depends on what it is...or which dessert you mean?” He chuckled and rose his eyebrow. “And which one do you want?”, he asked, even though he already knew the answer.

Y/N chuckled and stood up, walking over to the older man, her hand never leaving the other. “You know exactly which one, you bastard.”, she hissed before grabbing his strong shoulders and pulling the smaller/taller body up for a kiss. “Indeed I do.”, he mumbled against her lips.

They kissed yet again, much harder this time, their tongues fighting for dominance. What they failed to notice, however, was that Karai, who had a key to the private quarters and needed some sort of decision for something the young man didn’t want to be involved in, was standing in the doorframe, a surprised look on her face, which turned into a soft smile when after she watched them making out for a second.

Very slowly, she retreated, careful not make a sound. She didn’t want to disturb those two love birds. She turned, walked out of the quarters and along the halls, and when she was out of ear reach, she began to laugh.

When Jason wakes up, he forgets where he is and why. Until he hear the Joker’s laugh. And he remembers. Stephanie was gone and he found her. But it was a trap for Bruce and he was the one fall for it.

And if things can’t get worse, he was fifth month pregnant.

If the Joker doesn’t kill him, Roy will do and Jason will not stop him.

He killed his child. He killed their child.

“I have to admit Hoodie, when I saw it was you I was really mad. But it seems you understand a fundamental true.”

Joker injects something in his neck after he retired his scent blocker. If his round belly doesn’t betray him, his scent does.

“More the merrier, the merrier.”

And the fucking Joker touches his belly. He wants scream, kill the bastard but he can’t move.

Jason doesn’t know what drugs Joker puts on his system paralyses him.

When Joker let him down, Jason saw Stephanie. She is just beside him. They could almost touch. She doesn’t smile like before and the storage doesn’t look like the one they were before.

How long was he out?

Breathes, Jason said to himself, and focus on what you can see.

Stephanie seems alive but badly beaten, and her scent shows her anger.

Jason thinks that she must be angry because of what Joker did to her, of what happen this late two days. But the true is she is angry because she gets caught, because of what Joker will do to Jason and his pup because of her. And she can’t do anything.

“I can’t wait see Batsy’s face when he realize he fails save not one, not two but three people! And everyone is so weak for omega bitch pregnant!”

Joker stands up in front of Jason.

“Like there is something hard to open the thighs and take a knot!”

He kicks Jason in his belly and laughs at that. Stephanie, despite being unable to move, groan deeply and menacing.

“What sweatheart? It is your?” Joker ask before kick Jason again

This time, Jason fights his instinct and force himself to stay calm. He gets caught because he was stupid enough to panic earlier.

It is not the first time he was paralyzed by a drug. He has to stay calm and focuses to move. He can do it. He will stand, punch the fucking Clown. Scratch that. He will kill the fucking Clown. And he will save his pup. Even if Roy refuses to let him see them after the birth.

“Hello!” Joker yells to his face

Fuck. They are so close, they almost kiss.

“Are you there Hoodie? I remember that you know better how to handle the blows!”

Jason concentrates only to move. He can feel his toes wriggle when Stephanie uses everything strength she has left to take his hand.

Jason can feel his knee wriggle too. Just a second and he can move his leg to destabilize the Joker.

Joker was going to kick him again but before Jason could feel the pain, Harley punches Joker with her giant mallet.

She looks as surprise as everyone that she actually do that. But she didn’t lose her confidence. She takes place between Jason and Joker.

“Don’t make him loose his pup.” She said

Joker groans at her before attack her.

Jason takes advantage of the diversion; he crawls up to Stephanie, with difficulty because of the drug but with determination all the same.

“S-Spoiler …”

Gods, he voices is so weird almost like it didn’t belong to him.

Inhale, Jason. Exhale. Good, he can do it. He can save them.

“Ja …

-Shh. N-nam…e yo…u re…mem…be…r?

-I … I ‘…m s-s-sorr…y …” She whispers while one of her hand touch his belly

Jason almost cry, thinking that his child could die here because of him. Never Roy will forgive him. Never Jason will forgive him, if he survives.

No. He won’t think about that. Gently he caresses Stephanie hair with his nose.

“Shh. T…They w-will …be … f-fine. You … w-will … be … f-fine. I… I … w-will… be … f-fine.”

Stephanie didn’t success hold back her tears. But it is ok. Jason didn’t think she let herself cry before the Joker and she needed it.

“Shh.

Stephanie shook her head.

Jason wasn’t surprise but he was hopping they had a chance to contact the Bat.

Stephanie start shook her head then stop.

Jason saw her move her arms and understand what she means. All her fingers are broken and she didn’t seem able to move her shoulder too much. Joker beat her so hard that she was unable use whatever was on her neck and could have help her.

He feels something hit the floor beside them but he decides not to look, only focus on what Stephanie try to show.

It was a tracer, one Bruce like to put on everything his children could wear. It seems like Stephanie turn off this one, and he can’t blame her since he would have done the same thing.

Shit his fingers shake so much.

Inhale, Jason. Exhale.

Gently, slowly, he turns on the device and can only hope they will find them before Joker stop beating Harley to beat them.

“Please, he thinks, I don’t care about my life. I know I shouldn’t be alive. But please. Not my child. They have to survive. Please.”

Stephanie and he put their forehead together, trying breathing as calmly as they can, while they wait for a miracle, too exhausted and wounded to fight.

“You are a stupid bitch, Harley! Joker yells when she was finally unable to fight him anymore. How dare you make me angry? And for what?”

Jason feels Joker catch his leg to pull him. He tried kick him but all he gains was a knife stab his leg.

“For this stupid bitch that waste a perfect joke by coming back! For this stupid bitch that open up his thigh and let any alpha knot him! For this stupid bitch!”

This time Joker will stab him in his stomach. Jason knew it. And he have no arm, can’t barely move, and lost blood because of his leg’s injury.

“Not my child. Not my child. I’m sorry Roy. I’m sorry Lian. I’m sorry baby. I can’t protect you. I knew it and I decide make you suffer anyway.”

Joker finally looks at him and not Harley anymore. But Jason wishes he didn’t to that.

“Last chance Hoodie. Will you be?”

Jason wants to, but he knows the true.

Like in a movie or TV show, it was when all was lost that a miracle occurred.

A batarang stab Joker arm and almost all the Batfamily appears.

Orphan and Red Robin go for Spoiler watching what they can do for her before bring her back to the cave where she can be treated.

Batman and Robin fought the Joker and Harley who seems fight for her “pudding” again. One day she will stop, when she realize she can.

Nigthwing and Batwoman go for him. They look at him like they don’t really believe he is here.

“Little wing, Dick whisper, what the hell are you doing here?”

Jason whine, almost cry. He knew it was a bad idea coming here. He knew he fuck up. Can’t they focus on save his child? The lesson could wait.

“Not important right now. We have to stop his leg bleeding and take him to the hospital. Batwoman said and Jason wants to thank her

-He can’t go in hospital like that. Dick said pointing to his costume but starts stop the bleeding

-We can retire his domino and his top with the symbol on the car. Batwoman retort

-It would be weird that we both bring a pregnant omega …

-What? You never have to bring a pregnant omega to the hospital during one of your patrol? And at least things in the cave change during the last two hour, we can’t take care of him or the baby there.”

Dick bit his lip but didn’t try anymore to argue. The risk their identity was discovered was big, but the health of Jason and his baby was in danger too.

“You are right. Sorry. Everything will be alright Hood, ok? We will take care of you.” Dick smiles gently and Jason truly wants to believe him but he can’t.

He feels pathetic but he needs Roy with him, especially if things go wrong.

While they carry him to Batwoman’s car, Jason tries to explain that to Dick.

At first, Dick frowns then he looks at Jason’s belly and his eyes widened in shock as he understood what he was trying to tell him.

“Ok … Ok … we will tell him where you are as soon as we can phone, ok?”

It is not enough but Jason realize they can’t stop his bleeding and drive and call Roy. So he nods.

Luckily, Gotham is used to their vigilante now, and neither the doctor nor the nurses think much of seeing Batwoman and Nightwing. In an instant, they all focus on the distress pregnant omega.

With the little information, Batwoman and Nightwing give them –The omega was drugged but they don’t know exactly by what, he was maybe punch on his stomach- they start treat him.

Despite their instinct, they leave Jason alone on this hospital. The last thing they need is someone thinking they have a connection.

Dick calls Roy while he was seated on the roof of the building opposite. Roy reacts like expected. He was worried and angry at them. When he knew which hospital Jason was, he hangs up.

Dick sighs but when he sees Kate informs Bruce about Jason’s situation, he thinks it must be worse for her.

“Seriously B? She asks unimpressed. You think it was a good idea brings him to the cave, really? We haven’t anything to make sure the baby is safe. I know that he is hurt; it is for that we bring him to a hospital. Of course we leave. We never stay when we bring a victim to the hospital. You know what B? If you worried, you can come see your damn son.”

She hangs up. She sights loudly.

“Your father is an asshole.”

Dick smile weakly when watch the hospital again. He wants go see Jason. But he can’t come see him as Nightwing neither as Dick Grayson. Fuck if he visits him as Dick Grayson it is sure someone will assume he is his mate and the father of his baby. His baby. His Little wing is pregnant ! And he didn’t know it! He is pregnant with his ex-best friend’s baby! And he didn’t know it!

“You are as worse as him. She said. Come, we will change and see him.

-But what we will tell to the hospital? To the media?”

Kate has no time to respond, they see Bruce Wayne. Not in disguise. Not at Batman. They see Bruce fucking Wayne enters the hospital as himself.

When Roy finally arrives on the hospital, he is a mess. When Dick calls him he was recovering Lian from Dinah's house. They would go home, prepare the meal until Jason returns safe and sound. Lian did not understand why she had to stay longer. Roy had not said anything to him not to worry but it had not had the desired effect.

He could still hear her cry.

And he didn’t feel much better.

“I receveid a call. He said to the receptionist. My mate is here. He is pregnant. Please tell me how he is.

-What his name is?”

Shit. With which name he was checked in?

No. It wasn’t important. They have agreed on a name for Jason’s new identity.

“His name is Jason Johnson. But I don’t know how he was check in.”

The receptionist looks at him with a sad smile; visibly she was touch by his worry. Roy didn’t met many alpha that was unaffected by a distress omega. They were sympathetic or sexually excited by that.

While she did her research, Roy give her all the files he have to prove the existence of Jason Johnson and that they are mate.

“Roy! Dick calls him and Roy didn’t know how he feels about that. Good thing you are finally here. They didn’t let us seem him. We come here so fast that we didn’t think of take any identity card.”

Roy realizes only now, that not only Dick, but also Bruce, Kate and Damian were here.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing here?

If he thinks Roy will let him be impressed, he was mistaken for another omega.

Bruce looks so hurt by that, that if it was different circumstance Roy will feel bad for him. But now, Roy thinks Bruce didn’t suffer enough.

He wants yells: “No Gotham, no Red Hood for fifth month! But one call from them and he came risk his life, his and their baby’s life for them. Again and again. But it would never be enough, right?” but he said nothing because, even in his distress, he knew here wasn’t the right place to talk about their job.

“Please. Tell me you find my mate. Roy said to the receptionist

-I find someone but they didn’t have any identity card. The doctor will come soon to tell you if you can see him.

-Soon how?

-Soon like right now.”The doctor said

She was a skinny and tired beta but she was forthright and honest.

“I can’t tell you anything about the patient if I am not sure you are who you said you are. But he is awake enough to tell if they know you. Please come.”

Roy takes back his papers and follows her. He stops when he saw the Batfamily do the same. He groans at them threatening.

“What do you think you doing?”

Bruce groans back and for a moment, everyone though they will fight.

“-Please misters. I will let the patient decide who they want see.” The doctor interrupt not impressed

With difficulty, they all arrive in one piece to the room. The doctor forces them to stay outside while she approaches Jason.

“Mister, there are some people here. Maybe there are your families. Can you confirm it? Can you look at them please and tell me if they can come into your room?”

Jason’s scent reeks from distress and worry. It is almost unbearable even at the door. When Jason looks at them, they can see him crying.

“Roy.” Jason said looking at him miserably

It is enough for Roy who run to him, takes him in his arm and kisses his cheeks, his nose, his forehead, and his lips.

He can’t help himself but put his hand on Jason’s belly. And no word can describe the relief he feels when he feels his child move.

“You’re alive. Our child is alive.” Roy said like he can’t believe it

Jason cries louder making his breathing difficult.

“Shh. I am here. Cry, you will feel better after.”

Roy rock Jason in his arm. He can’t understand why Jason reacts so badly. They are fine. It was a horrible night. But they are fine, right?

“Sorry. The doctor said. But about the other person, do you want to see them?”

Jason shakes his head without look at them.

“Ok. I will let you a moment then I come back explain everything to you, ok?

-Yeah. Thank.” Roy said

Bruce and Dick were devastated by Jason’s reaction and at first refuses to leave. They wanted at least know how Jason was.

“The patient didn’t confirm you are his family. The doctor explain

-I am his father.

-If it is true, come back here tomorrow. Maybe he will confirm that. In the meantime, please leave.

-I will come back tomorrow.” Bruce said more for Jason than the doctor.

Then he leaves and the other follows him.

“Mister?

-Harper. Roy Harper.

-I am the Doctor Olivia Armstrong. If your … mate, right? Right. If your mate agrees, are you ready listen the prognostic?

-I am. Roy said before ask to Jason. Are you? It is ok if you are not …

-I am. Please, just … Don’t stop holding me …”

The doctor let them an instant before saying:

“Your mate was kicking in the stomach more than once and drugs with some paralyzing drug.

-Oh God … Jaybird … Roy said while kisses him again

-We did exam to ensure the health of Mister Jason and the baby.

-And well?

-The drugs don’t seem have long effect on Jason and the baby. In some minutes, it would be off his system without any after effect.

-Ok good. And the bad news?

-Like I already said to Jason … Well there was obviously a detachment of the placenta. The hematoma is peripheral and small so it will not impact the maternal-fetal exchanges.

-What does that mean? Jason and the baby are in danger?

-We will have to impose on Mister Jason total rest and close supervision. At least initially, to make sure that the hematoma does not get worse.

-I killed them. Jason said

-No you didn’t. You are fine. They are fine.

-No they are not.

-Mister Roy, I don’t want trouble you and your mate more but you must know. We cannot guarantee that the pregnancy will end well. We will do everything we can but we cannot promise you everything will be alright.

-I am so sorry.

-You must be so mad … I hate myself so much …

-I want to be mad. Roy confesses. But true is in your place I would have done the same thing.

Roy laughs and kisses Jason again who relax a little in his arms.

“I love you Jaybird. We will everything for this pregnancy to end well. But no matter the end, I love you.
