Chekov, Horta and...Pon Farr👀👀
MIRAGE! :D
Thank you for the ask 😘
Chekov- what’s the worst you’ve ever fucked up your hair?
There’s like 3 incidents
1. I cut my bangs while I was in class... it was REAAAALLY BAD. But they grew back pretty quickly
2. Think I’ve mentioned this before, the bob cut. It was way too short and it didn’t suit me imo. Took about four years for my hair to grow back to the length I originally had before the cut.
3. I cut my hair.... AGAIN. Wasn’t the bangs this time though, I took a chunk out of the left side. It was so bad I had to go to the hairdresser to fix it.
Horta- do you like lasagna?
I LOVE LASAGNA!! Regular old lasagna, white lasagna, lasagna roll ups, lasagna made with zucchini noodles instead of wheat noodles, I would willingly eat fried lasagna. I just like lasagna 🤷🏼♀️
I’m always down to try new lasagna recipes. Seriously if you see any please send them my way.
So yes I like lasagna kskaawaszkwjdj
Pon farr- Given the chance, would you fuck an alien?
👀👀👀
Send In Some Star Trek TOS asks! ❤️💛💙

Hair (fanfic)
Look at me go, two fanfics in two days. It’s almost like I should be studying or something but would rather write sad fanfiction instead of dealing with organic chemistry.
Anyway, this fanfic is heavily inspired by a text-post from @lesbian-deetz about blonde Lydia and how she ended up with black hair and a tiktok by @vrronicasawyer-cosplay
I took an already sad text post and made it ten times sadder!
Tw: Mourning, death
__________________________________________________________
Everyone always said Lydia had the most beautiful blonde hair. When she was first born everyone was so shocked to see this tiny baby girl with light blonde hair when both her mother and father had dark hair, it wasn’t until they remembered Charles’ red-headed father that it all made sense that Lydia was blonde. From the day she was born, nobody could deny that Lydia was Charles’ daughter. Even as a baby she looked exactly like him from her eye color, the shape of her nose, and her face in general. Emily tried not to be envious, though she did land in a few remarks about how unfair it was that she grew Lydia inside of her for nine months and she looked exactly like her father, who’s job in making the baby ended nine months and fifteen minutes ago. Little did Emily know that even though she looked like Charles, Lydia would undeniably be considered Emily’s little clone.
As a toddler, she had little curls that killed people when she gave a rosy-cheeked and buck-toothed smile. Her mother would love to braid flowers in Lydia’s hair and pretend they were fairies in the garden. Her father used to gush about how he loved the light, almost white colored hair that contrasted Lydia’s dark brown eyes. As she got older Lydia always just kept her hair long. She liked the way that it blew all crazy when she was running on the playground, and the time spent every morning with her mother helping her fix her hair for the day. She begged her mother to let her get bangs when she was around ten years old, and Emily begrudgingly agreed only because she also had bangs as a child and hoped that letting Lydia get them done once would get it out of her system. Lydia ADORED her new hair cut, and even Emily thought the look suited her. Mostly she was just thrilled her daughter was happy and expressing herself.
Lydia never really thought much about having blonde hair, she just thought it was funny when people would joke about how her family must have brought home the wrong baby because her hair was so light compared to hers. Her father kept his brown hair in a professional style like all the other father’s Lydia saw of her classmates, she teased him for being boring. Emily though, she had shorter hair from as early as Lydia could remember. It was dark brown, nearly black hair that Emily kept cut just above her chin in a messy bob. At nights Emily and Lydia would flip through old photo albums and Emily would groan when photos of her with long hair appeared.
“My parents always wanted me to keep it long, said it was ‘proper of a young lady’ ” Emily mocked in a stuffy voice, “As soon as I turned sixteen, I went to the hairdresser and told them to chop it off! My mother was less than thrilled when I came home missing ten inches of hair.”
“Would you be mad if I cut my hair like that?” a ten-year-old Lydia asked
Emily shook her head, “Of course I wouldn’t be. You can do whatever you want with your hair. I just like mine this way, I’ve kept it this short ever since I was sixteen years old. I think it’s very me, don’t you?”
Lydia nodded, “I like my hair like this. I think I would keep it that way, besides daddy really loves my hair long.”
“I think you’d look cute with short hair, but if this is how you like it you should keep it that way.”
Lydia thought about it for a second, “Maybe when I’m older...I’ll test out some new looks.”
“Didn’t you just test out these bangs little lady?”
Lydia was twelve years old when Emily first got sick. The doctors seemed hopeful in the beginning, said that her chance of beating it was sixty percent, but as time went on Emily got worse and worse. Emily’s once beautiful black hair was brittle and falling out as a reaction from the medication she was on, by the time the end was drawing near, she had only patches of hair left. Lydia remembered crying when her mom asked to braid her hair one more time, just hadn’t been able to do her own in so long, and even though Lydia was all grown up now, just once more Emily wanted to it. Slowly and deliberately Emily twisted Lydia’s blonde hair into two strands, and when she was done both women were in tears. Charles, who was silent for the whole thing, remarked how beautiful they both looked.
A few days later Emily took her last breath. Lydia and Charles at both sides of the bed, holding her hands in theirs. Lydia doesn’t remember much of what happened afterward, it was all a blur to her but it still pains Charles to play over in his mind how Lydia screamed and cried for her mother to come back, that she wasn’t ready to let go, how he had to pry his sobbing daughter away from her dead mother, Lydia’s arms still outstretched reaching for one more hug, one more kiss, one more time of Emily doing her hair. He regretted not letting her, at the time he found it morbid but he often wondered if he had just let her say goodbye on her own terms that she would be coped better. Instead of righting his wrongs, he simply tried to ignore it, and hope that Lydia would come around.
At home that night Lydia felt so numb, she had already cried so much that she couldn’t even make tears anymore. Her father was so busy preparing arrangements for the funeral and organizing family that he didn’t have time to console his grieving child. She would stand right in front of him, tears running down her face but he would dismiss her, as he scrambled to get everything in order. She never felt so alone, even with all the people constantly parading in and out of her house. Adults simply giving her pitiful looks as they went to talk to Charles about how strong he was and what a good example he was for Lydia. She could hear their whispers to each other, and their glances at the frail and meak little girl sitting on the stairs. She knew they wished she could just give them a polite smile or thank them when they gave their condolences. She couldn’t though, because she knew it was fake. They weren’t sorry for her loss, they were sorry that she hadn’t moved on. She couldn’t tell anybody how she felt, any time she tried they would just turn away.
Her aunt sat by her in the living room and instead of reading the tone, Lydia was silent and tearful, she picked up a picture frame of Lydia’s family and remarked, “You know, you look just like your father.”
She lost it, she managed a mousy, “I get that a lot.” before she ran up to her room, slammed the door and cried.
The night before the funeral Lydia came down the stairs and found her father clutching a framed photograph of Emily in his hands. Lydia stared at the photo. Her mother and father were dancing, something that Charles never did unless Emily coaxed him into it. They were younger, maybe in their twenties. Charles in the photograph had messier hair and was frozen in a laugh as he dipped Emily. Emily’s mouth was in a wide smile and her short black hair was fanned out behind her. Lydia held back a whimper as she snuck out the backdoor and walked down to the drug store a block away. It was a route she was familiar with, growing up in New York Lydia walked a lot of places, but talking to the drug store this time felt strange as if reality felt off. Mindlessly Lydia walked through the aisles, unsure of what she was even looking for until she stumbled into the rows of hair coloring. Cautiously she picked up a box in her hand and ran her fingers through her long blonde hair. Without saying a word she dropped the box on the counter, paid for it, and walked back home.
She went into the kitchen and grabbed a pair of gloves and a pair of scissors. She quietly went into the bathroom and set everything down, careful not to attract the attention of her father. She held a photograph of her mother up to the side of her face as she stared at herself in the mirror. She stayed emotionless as she applied the dye, showered, and dried her hair. Standing back in the mirror she twisted the now dark black hair around her fingers, looking back and forth between the photo of her mother and herself in the mirror. She picked up the scissors and aggressively started cutting, long curls of her hair falling to the floor. Tears were streaming liberally and her face burned a bright red as she sobbed. When she was done it was choppy, uneven, and short. Shorter than she had even had it before. The longest section rested above her chin, but it was exactly what she wanted. When she looked at her reflection she didn't even recognize who she was, but she felt like she was looking at a ghost.
“Lydia?” Charles called from downstairs, “What’s going on up there, are you alright?”
She gathered up the mess she made and threw it away before walking calmly down the stairs to greet her father. She hesitated on the banister, but there was no going back. She stood in front of her father and just waited for a response.
“What the hell did you do!” He screamed, “Oh my god Lydia, why did you do this? The funeral is tomorrow and you had to do this tonight, do you not think before you do things! Look at it-”
Lydia’s eyes started welling up with tears but she tried to keep herself under control. She knew he would be shocked, but she hadn't expected him to scream at her, not two days after her mother had died.
“Lydia your hair was beautiful! I loved it, your mother..she loved it! Why did you do this! What the hell have you done, can you please just explain why.”
Lydia couldn’t help herself, the dam broke and she started screaming back at him, she could feel angry and hot tears running down her face, and her chest felt so tight that she was afraid she couldn’t breathe. She wouldn’t give him a straightforward answer, she just yelled at him about everything that she had been feeling, for how everyone had been treating her.
“I’m invisible dad! Nobody sees me, you don’t see me. All you do is look at everyone else, and look at pictures. Well, guess what dad, now you have to look at me! DO YOU SEE ME NOW DAD!”
“I am looking right at you, I haven’t gone anywhere. It has just been a rough couple of days-”
“I am so sick of everyone telling me that. That it’s been rough, and that it’s going to get better. It’s not going to get better, they are liars because they can’t bring her back!”
He sagged his shoulders, “Lydia, I’m sorry you feel that way. I just, I don’t understand why you felt like you had to do this. You cut your hair, you dyed it black. We understand you’re in mourning, but isn’t this taking it too far!”
Lydia’s face contorted and she began to violently shake, she collapsed on the ground and sobs wracked through her tiny frame. She looked up at her father and whimpered, “Do I look like her?”

2019.
Never have I ever lived a year that I felt as though I needed to write about, but I guess there's a first for everything- right? On January first of 2019 I wouldn't have believed you if you told me I'd be where I am now. I was home visiting from college wishing I could tell my parents that I was too anxious to even go to my classes. But I didn’t want to let them down. They were so proud of me for going to college and ‘setting an example for my younger siblings’. So, I didn't. I continued to live that lie and I had accepted my fate. I was sleeping in my younger sisters bed because my room was non existent anymore (my siblings were betting on my old room before I even was accepted into college.) I desperately wanted someone to confide in seeing as I had no friends. And then I met Patrick. From that first swipe I knew something big was coming.
It was like an earthquake that happens before a volcano erupts, I didn't know if that was going to be the whole show or if I should stick around. And let me tell you, am I glad I stuck around. Our first date we broke into a park -the most exhilarating thing I've ever done. Patrick wanted me to see his favorite place but being the workaholic he was, he couldn't catch the park while it was open. Climbing over that fence, I had never felt more right doing something wrong. Normally my anxious self would have laughed at the idea of it but I wanted to look cool for this boy I just met who was so much cooler than me. We sat looking at the ducks as they swam around in the pond. Everytime I heard a noise I’d look all around because I was so sure cops were going to come and take us to jail because we were in a park after close, but I loved it.
The day after our first date, I had to go back to college. Patrick and I texted the entire ride, planning when we would see each other again. First week back to classes, I continued my streak of being too anxious to go to classes. This time instead of hating myself for my anxiety, I had someone to talk to. I spent all my days wishing I was with Patrick and not alone. Then, there was a Greyhound leaving my college town in an hour. I booked it.
I was terrified. Never had I ever taken a public transportation that wasn't a school bus. This feeling of adrenaline manifested in my veins as I downloaded both the Greyhound and Uber apps. I punched my cards’ information into the apps as I haphazardly packed my bag that was bursting at the seams. Greyhound ticket? Bought. Uber? Ordered. I had that same feeling of adrenaline that I had when we were breaking into the park. My moms voice echoed in my head telling me to not meet strangers online. At this moment I decided I’m not telling her, in fact I wasn't going to tell anyone. I know, I could have ended up dead and no one would have known, but I lived to see another day!
I got the notification that the Uber had arrived and I embarked on my journey. The Uber driver and I talked about how this was an unexpected trip and I explained to him how I never do things without a plan. He said to me “yanno, some of the best trips I’ve ever been on were unexpected.” The Greyhound station was scary, I was alone with a six hour ‘layover’. No one knew where I was going besides me and Patrick, I felt like I was on a secret mission. The entire Greyhound trip was not as bad as I made it up to be in my head, it was even (dare I say) pleasant. When I arrived to the town Patrick lived in, we went back to his apartment where he had my favorite things: Hot Cheetos, a green Monster energy drink, and a huge stuffed sloth. He cooked me dinner and we stayed awake all night talking. We did nothing but hang out that entire weekend. It was perfect.
That weekend was only the first of many weekends to come, I would not go to classes, talk to Patrick, then visit him on the weekends and repeat. After about a month of doing this, I decided I was going to drop out of college. I never really wanted to do college in the first place, I was always too scared to say what I wanted. I was scared of hurting other people's feelings, but I decided the debt wasn’t worth sparing someone else's feelings. A couple trips ago, Patrick had mentioned me moving in with him and I decided to take him up on his offer. I booked a one-way Greyhound and I threw my personal belongings in a bag. I decided I was going to surprise patrick. (great idea, I know) I got on the Greyhound knowing damn well I wasn't going to be back anytime soon. The whole time I texted patrick as if I were still in my dorm being miserable. Once I was off of the Greyhound, I ordered an Uber to Patrick's apartment. At this point he was catching on to my suspicious activity. I knock on his door at 9 o’clock at night. And then I just never left.
I was able to experience Patricks town through his lenses. He lived about a 30 minute drive away from where I grew up, so I had been here but I didn't know the ins and outs of the town. He showed me all these amazing food places, including this shawarma place right across the street that we admittedly ate too much of.
Eventually I had to get my horde of things from my dorm in my college town. The drive there is about four hours away from where Patrick lived. Seeing as we had no car, we were going to take a bus to my ex-college town and then U-Haul back down. We almost missed the bus there, we had to run a mile to catch the bus that was leaving in 5 minutes. We barely made the bus, and I was wheezing for a solid hour recuperating from the run. Once we arrived to my ex-college town we got Sonic, which was my guilty pleasure. After a couple corndogs and fries it was off to my old place of living. We quickly packaged all my things and took off. Before the long trek home, we stopped for gas. This is where I scraped and dented the entire side of the Uhaul, sending Patrick and I into a 40,000 dollar panic attack. Luckily, when we returned the U Haul, there were markings of previous damage in that very spot so we didn't end up with that charge. But, I was officially moved into Patricks apartment. It was now our home.
I've always been a self conscious gal when it came to my weight. I was always the heaviest set of all my friends but I always chalked it up to: my whole family was heavy set. Nevermind the bag of hot cheetos and my venti caramel frappuccino with extra caramel on the daily. Or if I was being healthy, a green Monster energy drink. (Yes the green part is important) In March of this year I decided I wasn't going to keep pitying myself, I was going to make a change. The way I looked and how awful I felt wasn’t going to change while I sat on my ass. I cut out all my sugary and snacky addictions right then and there. I started eating healthy and going to the gym. I was extremely serious and even more determined to prove myself wrong. I now occasionally allow myself some hot cheetos and even a coffee when we’re out sometimes. But I made the health decision that I never thought I’d be able to.
When summer time rolled around, I told my mom (keep in mind she thought I was in my college town this whole time) that I was going to move in with Patrick instead of moving home for the summer. She was weary but I didn’t really give her an option.I had to pretend like I was moving down here all over again, but I did it. I couldn't believe my lie has lasted and she still to this day doesn’t know that I was in this city for the first half of 2019. When August rolled around, my family was asking what my plans for the school were, seeing as I had no intention of going back to college. I told them that honestly I had no plans and that I was perfectly content with that. I have interests in many things including photography, videography, and traveling and I was determined to find something I could do in regard to one of those. Haven't gotten there yet but making progress.
This year has been the year of me making my own decisions. My whole life I’ve had long bleach blonde hair. Some time in 2017 I decided that I wanted short hair and bangs, so I told my mom this. As none of you know seeing as this is my first blog post, my mom is a hairdresser. A hairdresser who specialises in long blonde hair. While I was always thankful for getting my hair done for free (a treat some girls would die for) it wasn't fun not having the freedom with my hair that I desired. So, I bought some black box dye and booked a hairdresser appointment. Needless to say, I ended that day with a black bob with bangs. And I felt so cute and independent, not like the carbon copy my mom so wanted me to be.
Moving on with the timeline, Patricks lease was up. We didn't know if we wanted to move to Washington State or stay in this metropolitan city. We decided to stay in this town for now (leaving is a long term goal, just isn't in the cards right now). We moved to this two bedroom apartment which we desperately needed. We needed the space to go through our things and figured out what we had duplicates of and whatnot. Once that got all settled, I set my goals on minimalism, but that's a topic for another time.
I cut people out of my life that I had needed to for too long for my mental health. It was hard, but after doing it I no longer feel as though I carry the burden that was them.
I've grown into the kind of person I’ve always wanted to be this year, me 365 days ago wouldn't have believed you if you told me I was going to be where I am only a short year later. If I’ve learned one this year it is that if you want something, you need to do it. You can't wait for the opportunity to fall into your lap. You are the creator of your own future, so make it and make it sick.
-jay.

step one
Transition is hard to start, Hanako Sero isn't even sure how to start.
It's scary, but Shinso is there to help.
He'll hold her hand through the first step.
Tag as genderbends and I'll fucking eat you
~~
Sero had never liked her hair.
Or her birth name.
Or her assigned gender.
Or any of that, but her hair has always been the worst.
It's long and and uneven, full of split ends and poorly kept.
Much more poor than she's willing to admit. Showers are hard, sometimes.
All because she didn't want to go to a hairdresser and explain her situation. Sero didn't want to go into a salon and desperately try to explain to the hairdresser that she didn't want it all chopped off.
"Please, make me look like a woman, it's all I want," she could hear herself begging to the hairdresser.
Sero was not looking for that kind of embarrassment.
Beginning transition was always hard, she had heard from both Ochako and Tsu about how stressful and terrifying it was.
More from Ochako, who started her transition later only two years ago.
Soon enough, nobody will even know Hanta Sero existed.
"Hanta Sero who? Do you mean Hanako Sero?"
It's a comforting thought.
Hitoshi is good with hair, though.
Sero has seen him mess with Eri's hair, braiding it and trimming it up, turning it from a rat's nest to a wealthy princess's hair.
Hitoshi is the solution. Maybe.
Sero sat up in bed, tying her disaster of a hairdo back into a ponytail as she stood up and left her dorm room.
Shinso's room was on the fourth floor, where Mineta's once was.
Nasty man, she thought to herself, he shouldn't of touched Hitoshi.
Hanako was certain he hated being in there, he mostly stayed in Aizawa's room.
He never slept in there alone.
Soft music and quiet sobs floated from Todoroki's room, a usual noise from him at this time.
Hanako would go in and check on the half and half hero, but he liked to be alone during this time.
Walking down hallways and down stairs, eventually she came across a door labeled "Hitoshi Shinso." Underneath it, the phrase "Eri Shinzawa" was written in a six year old's writing, in a pretty blue sharpie.
"Stop wiggling you little worm!" She heard Shinso yell from inside, followed by little Eri's laughter.
Hanako smiled, then reaching out to knock on the door.
The purple haired male opened the door, once his tired eyes caught sight of Hanako, he smiled.
"Hanako," he said, a softness to his voice, "What brings you here?"
She glanced behind him, seeing a half wrapped up Eri in a blanket by a corner labeled "Eri's Corner," wiggling happily as she awaited Shinso to return.
"Well, uhh..." Hanako started, glancing off to side as she began to fidget with her hands, "You know how much I hate my hair, and..."
"You want me to cut it?" He cut in, already predicting where she was going with this with.
Sero eagerly nodded, "Please, I'm too nervous to go to a hairdresser and explain..."
Shinso smiled, grabbing Hanako's hand and pulling her inside the dorm, closing the door behind her.
"Eri, play time's over," Shinso said, and Eri quickly rolled out of the blanket.
"You're gonna cut the pretty girl's hair?" The little girl asked, tilting her head to the side as she blanked on Hanako's name.
"Yes, I'm gonna cut the pretty girl's hair," Hitoshi confirmed, sitting Hanako on a stool in front of a vanity as he began to take out hair cutting supplies, "What kind of haircut were you thinking?"
"I don't know..." Sero admitted, "I want bangs, though..."
Shinso moved in front of Sero, cupping her face in his hands as he carefully inspected the facial features, as if trying to figure out what to hide.
"Take your hair down for me, Hana-chan?"
Hanako did as she was told, letting her hair down out of the ponytail as it falls down just passed her shoulders.
"Your hair's a mess," Shinso says with a laugh, looking back to Eri, "Eri, baby, come here."
The white haired girl stands up and runs to her older brother, Shinso picking her up with ease.
"What kind of haircut do you think Hanako-san would look good with?" He asks her.
"Hmm..." The little girl stares, eyes narrowing as she looks Sero up and down, "Curly hair, like short curly hair.
"A bob?" Shinso questioned for confirmation.
"Yeah!" She answered, looking back to Shinso, "But, like, one you don't really take care of. A messy bob! Kinda like Sailor Saturn's and Sailor Neptune's combine!"
Shinso set Eri down, gently ruffling her hair as he spoke, "Okay, a messy, curly bob with messy bangs. Sound good?"
Hanako nods eagerly, and the process of hair cutting begins.
Brush, brush, gentle tugs at her greasy hair.
Snip, snip.
Curling, and spraying, and little giggles from Eri.
It's almost an hour before Shinso's actually done, setting scissors down on the vanity as he runs his fingers through Sero's hair, laying his head on the other's shoulder.
"Hey, your cuteness level just increased by like, ten."
Hanako stared in the mirror, finding it hard to recognize herself as she gently touched her curled hair, a smile on her face.
"This is... This means so much to me, fuck..." Hanako murmured, sniffling, "How can I repay you?"
"Y'know," Shinso starts, "I think just seeing you this happy is enough payment."
He presses a kiss to her cheek, and Hanako holds back tears.
Thank God for Hitoshi Shinso.

Hair and womanhood
Finally got my hair cut. I am in heaven, feel free as a bird. Went from mid-back length to a shoulder length longish bob à la Kylie Jenner. Sorry, not sorry; say what you want about her but her hair and makeup are always banging. Was also able to lop enough off to donate to locks of love which is always nice.
Whenever I do a big chop like this, amid the compliments from others are the wide-eyed women who ask me how I mustered up the courage. "For what?" I ask innocently. "It'll grow back!" They regard me with a fearfully incredulous look, like I must be crazy, but they also wish to try something like it.
My hairdresser was telling me stories of women with long hair who come in for trims, only she has to FIGHT with them to take more than half an inch off (as it depends how far up the damage/split ends go). Some women will just straight up cry each time they cut their hair.
I'm sure that's not the norm but obviously some of us feel this way. How much of our feminity do we tie up (hehe) in our hair, or lack of it? I personally have never been super attached to length, but obviously once I style it I love how it looks and can see the appeal. But it's just not worth it and is not convenient for the ins and outs of daily life. My hair is super thick too so that means I would easily spend 45 mins from start to finish blow drying and curling my hair with the iron to make it wavy and Purdy. I'd rather spend that extra time sleeping in the morning.
As far as having shorter hair goes, I mean, I've never been rejected by a man for not having long enough hair or something lol. And I typically get more compliments when it's shorter. So I definitely don't feel like, uglier or anything. While long flowy hair definitely feels majestic and beautiful, I much prefer the ease and convenience of short hair, and the feeling of looking a little different.
How do you guys feel about your hair? Have you ever cut it short and regretted it, or never looked back? Do you hold a lot of your self-esteem in having long hair, and can you rationalize/articulate why that is? Genuinely curious!
#diary of nova#nghhhh i can feel the base of my neck getting air again lmao#and shower time will be easily cut in half lol#btw i'm defining short to be shoulder length and above i guess#but it's definitely a bit subjective too so anything goes

The Totality: Rihanna | ELLE Magazine
Let’s just call Rihanna what she is: the coolest woman on the planet—with beauty, talent, attitude, and personal style to spare. Here, the global megastar answers questions from a cross-section of her famous fans.
Somewhere between releasing her debut single “Pon de Replay” (to blitzkrieg effect) in 2005 and sitting down to discuss international education with Emmanuel Macron in 2017, Rihanna has become much more than a pop star. The music is still absolutely vital, yes—her eighth album, Anti, which has been kicking up dust on the dance charts since it dropped last year, was deemed by Forbes to be one of the most successful recordings of all time—but as an icon, she represents something far greater: what a woman can achieve when she tackles her career, and her life, on her own terms. Rihanna is always fearlessly, unapologetically herself, whether she’s making maverick fashion choices on the red carpet, calling out body shamers, or adding yet another unmistakably RiRi-stamped endeavor to her string of (singer-actress-designer-entrepreneur-philanthropist-etcetera-etcetera) hyphenates. We can now add beauty mogul to that list.
The singer has poured her uncompromising attitude into a much-awaited makeup line, Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, poised to launch with a big bang of 91 products on September 8 at Sephora (expect lines) and on the brand’s website (Internet = broken). Its focus, perhaps surprisingly from a practiced maquillage peacock who has been known to rock vivid blue and ink-black lipstick with defiant flair, is gleaming, satiny, flawless skin, built around an assortment of user-friendly highlighting and contouring sticks, and a whopping 40 shades of foundation. “The biggest void I’ve found in the industry is the lack of variety in foundation shades,” Rihanna tells us. “That’s one of the things that was most important to me—to make sure everyone was included.” It’s a nod, too, to the complexion-perfecting gateway drug that ushered the Barbados native into beauty in the first place: “Foundation was the first product I ever owned,” she says. “It was like magic, and I’ve been in love with makeup ever since.”
Avidly hands-on throughout the collection’s development, Rihanna helmed everything from the playful name selection (there’s a gold powder highlighter, for instance, dubbed Trophy Wife) to the packaging, which, like its creator, is multifaceted, with tough, graffiti-inspired outer boxes opening onto sleek, streamlined, sweetly pretty individual products. “There are plenty of options out there when it comes to makeup,” Rihanna says. “My approach with Fenty Beauty was just to do things my way.”
19 QUESTIONS FOR RIHANNA, FROM 20 OF HER FRIENDS AND FANS
Tyra Banks, Model/Entrepreneur: You’re so successful and surrounded by people who want to please you. Who gives it to you straight?
Rihanna: For me, it’s my mama. They all fake, LOL, and fired!
Eminem, Rapper: You don’t seem like you’re ever thinking about trends when you go in the studio, yet you end up setting them. What are you looking at when you start your recording process?
Rihanna: I rarely know exactly what I want to do, but always know exactly how I want it to make me feel. Feeling always leads the sound!
Wyclef Jean, Rapper: The last time I saw you was at the World Cup. If you could be any football player in the world, who would it be?
Rihanna: Cristiano Ronaldo. But then again, Beckham did marry Posh Spice.
Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, Designers, Oscar de la Renta: What’s your best vintage find?
Rihanna: On New Year’s Eve, 2016, I bought this costume from 1952 that was worn in the movie Singin' in the Rain.
“Rihanna is today’s most fascinating performer, a mysterious amalgam of amiable warmth and glittering charisma. With her keen creative eye for line and color, she has become a fashion icon, like Audrey Hepburn. Yet she is a tempestuous wild child and international adventuress, like Ava Gardner. Most importantly, as an artist in this overmechanized age, she bravely draws on deep wells of pure emotion, endearing her to millions of fans worldwide.” —Camille Paglia,Author/Critic
Tricky Stewart, Record Producer: Do you remember the first time a crowd gave you goose bumps singing all the lyrics to your song in concert?
Rihanna: Yes! I was on tour, and the whole crowd started singing “Take a Bow” word for word…to the point that I couldn’t even sing. They performed the entire song for me.
April Bloomfield, Chef: What do you cook when you want a little comfort?
Rihanna: Bajan macaroni pie, which is our version of a baked mac ’n’ cheese.
Zac Posen, Designer: What’s your secret family recipe?
R:It’s a secret! LOL. But they make a mean “cook-up” and pepper pot. Both are Guyanese recipes.
Jacquie Aiche, Jewelry Designer: What’s your favorite body part?
R: Well, my favorite body parts on pretty much any woman are the collarbone and shoulders.
Charli XCX, Singer/Songwriter: What’s your ultimate karaoke song?
R: Bon Jovi, “Livin’ on a Prayer”; Journey, “Don’t Stop Believin’ ”; Brandy and Monica, “The Boy Is Mine.”
"Rihanna brings ‘global gumbo’ to the culture. Her voice unites the world through positive music vibes." —Wyclef Jean, Rapper
Danielle Steel, Best-Selling Author: I love your shoe passion, especially your collaboration with Manolo Blahnik. How much of the designing do they let you do?
R; They really give me all the creative freedom I could ask for, but of course I have this unique opportunity to work with Mr. Blahnik himself, so his expertise is always more than welcome!
Kelly Fields, Chef (Willa Jean, New Orleans): Your preferences in fashion and art appear to embrace the entire scale of highbrow/lowbrow—which is how I like to cook. I’d love to know if your preferences in munchies run along that same scale?
R: You mean KFC on a private jet is not normal?
Laverne Cox, Actress: You’ve had so many iconic fashion moments and take so many risks. The CFDA Awards Adam Selman dress in 2014—what gave you the courage to take that risk that was so perfect and elegant yet daring?
R: Dear Laverne, I took advantage of my titties before they go south. I saw my window, and I took it.
Pharrell Williams, Musician/Producer: You’re a pluralist in every sense of the word. Did you always have these dreams to do so many things, in addition to being an artist? Or have you just figured that out along the way that there are other things you can do very well?
R: I’ve always been a dreamer…or let’s just say I kept my options open. In my heart, I knew singing was gonna be in my future, but I considered psychology, hairdressing, banking, teaching, acting, modeling, aviation, and philanthropy. I just didn’t know I’d pretty much be doing all of these things eventually!
Gary Ross, Director, Ocean’s 8: What’s the first thing I should do when I get to Barbados?
R: [Fast-food] Chefette and a rum punch!
"I love Rihanna. I love that she is herself with no apologies. Her sense of style and self is unique. I love how she transforms herself with each album, each campaign. Always evolving. A true icon." —Venus Williams, Tennis Champion
David Copperfield, Magician: I’m not kidding, this is a real offer: I can make you disappear and reappear anywhere in the world. Where do you want to go, and why?
R: Ten minutes before I lost my virginity…and I’m holding you to that offer. LOL.
Emilio Vitolo, Restauranteur (Emilio's Ballato, New York City): What’s the name of the soup dish that’s the most popular in our region of Italy?
R: It’s my favorite on your menu...pasta e fagioli.
A$AP Rocky, Rapper: Tupac, Bob Marley, and Time: Fuck? Marry? Kill?
Shit, well, we stay killing Time. Fuck Tupac. Marry Bob, duh.
Olivia Wilde, Actress: What’s the most valuable mistake you’ve learned from?
No cheese for Jay Brown before a flight.
Patricia Field, Stylist: Would you consider having a cocktail with me sometime in the near future? I’d like to get to know you better. (Not hitting on you.)
Your place or mine?
"Rihanna’s MTV 2016 VMA performances were groundbreaking, paradigm- shifting moments in female swag. She represents badassery, positive self-esteem, and in a great way. She is powerful and vulnerable simultaneously, which makes her a revolutionary. Yes, she’s sexy, but once she’s got your attention, I don’t think you can ignore what she’s saying to you: She is curated and deliberate without feeling staged, and her intent is as real as anything out there. I respond to her as a writer, a woman, and a fan.” —Courtney Kemp, Showrunner/Creator, Power (Starz)
HERE, RIHANNA'S INSIGHT AS THE PROPRIETOR OF FENTY BEAUTY
ELLE: When did you first wear lipstick?
Lipstick always got me in trouble. Whether it was at home as a kid, or my early teenage years in my career, I always had the urge to wear it. So I broke all those rules. Now lipstick is like my li’l secret weapon!
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done/tried for beauty? Would you do it again?
A corset! I’d do it again, though. I’d wear it every day if I could make it out alive!
What makes you feel dressy/“done,” beautywise?
My finishing touch is usually my highlighter. I love highlighter—it just adds this sense of fantasy to any look.
"What is incredible about Rihanna is that in a world facing a deadening crisis of leadership and the constant negation of creative efforts, her music globally moves and inspires us to be completely alive without restrictions or prohibitions." —Richard Phillips, Artist
Of all the celebrities you’ve met, who smells the best?
[Photographers] Inez and Vinoodh! Inez smells delicious. She actually gifted me her scent, because I always asked her about it.
Who’s your hair idol?
This is probably confusing to most, but it’s in between Toni Braxton from back in the day with all her short haircuts…and Cindy Crawford. She had the most effortless yet stunning hair.
Who’s your makeup idol?
I have to go with Veruschka. She made makeup look like silk!

20 Trendy Ways to Wear Short Angled Bob Haircuts

20 Trendy Ways to Wear Short Angled Bob Haircuts
A short angled bob is a ladies' haircut cut shorter at the back and longer at the front. Practical but extra fashionable and versatile – this combo makes this hot cut the most desirable Bob Style since the beginning of time!
You've certainly seen photos of Hollywood fashion icons Regina King, Gabrielle Union, Emily Ratajkwoski and Jourdan Dunn, who round their voguish short hair in an angled cut the Internet. Her hairdressers made sure to take her face details and hair type into account when making her free hair cuts.
Just as Orlando-based hair specialist Gerilyn Ghaisarzadeh blends the face and personality of her clients with the right hairstyle and even vibrant colors – you'll find a long list of ways to style an angled bob cut. Style with beach waves for a carefree, boho atmosphere or iron it straight and slim to exquisitely define that angle – you will not go out to try out your curls.
Its versatility is not the only amazing thing about angled bobsleds. Easy maintenance for short cuts, there are also additional fashion points!
chopped off blonde with and undercut
This cut is timeless and usually low maintenance. We shaved it under to make a small undercut because her hairline has some cowlicks. It was a fun way to help this problem and look super cute, even if she wants to tie it back a bit.
My favorite part of it is that it should look carefree and effortless, so if she styles it in the morning, she does not have to think about it anymore! We went with cooler tones for her highlights, and I just think that it fits so well with her skin tone.
I think this style works well with hair on the thinner side. It looks more body. It's great for any lifestyle, as this particular customer is in the active military living on the base, with two young children, I could add.
Especially bobs with this hair type are so easy to style and always look cute. A few passes with the curling iron, and she is good to go!
Pine-length Bob
This look is a classic, and I feel like it's going to go out of style. It is good if you still want length around your face, but still have some fullness, without being too short.
Be ready to style it everyday. This is not a wash-and-go deal. A good blowjob will do wonders with this style, depending on your texture.
Wavy and short
I think my client describes this look best as cool-mom Bob. We wanted something that, when styled and curled, makes it fun and cheeky, but even if it's just blown out, it's slim and still has a great shape.
I think the versatility of this look is my favorite part of it. For styling, I used Color Wow's Carb Infused Dream Cocktail for extra volume, curled in alternate directions with my Croc Hybrid Iron, and then sprayed Cult-Favorite Hairspray from Color Wow.
Usually, when a customer is considering a shorter look, I remind them that short hair is sometimes more work than long hair. In most cases, in addition to the analysis of the face shape, the actual length is determined if you want to put it on.
Not all customers want it so short that ponytails can be made, so daily styling is usually something that needs to be done. Then I recommend a product for her hair type. Whether that's for straightening frizzy hair or inflating the volume depends on each customer, but no matter what, I feel every customer needs something with thermal protection.
I always talk to my clients about how to use products and then how to style because I want them to feel comfortable and confident and to re-create their look at home.
chopped off with an undercut
This is a choppy, angled short bob with a Peekaboo shaved undercut, though it is not visible in the picture. I love its versatility: elegant but edgy and modern. She rocks her natural color, embracing her amazing gray hair that blends so well with the natural smoky blonde.
I would ask if she is an active person or not and how long she would have to get to make the haircut better for her lifestyle. If she prefers to put her hair in a ponytail, we may need to rethink the length and keep it a little longer. If not, we can go even shorter.
Short hair does not need much care besides using the right products. In essence, I would recommend using a good product before drying – like a mousse or a texturizing lotion – and a styling wax / paste to give that extra texture and fun. I think, "Less is more." It takes a few weeks to get used to short hair, but trust me when I say it's addictive.
Blonde Balayage
This is a crisp classic form, but with the subtle disheveled movement and golden tones – I would describe this look as a subtle softness. What I love about this look is that the overall shape is visually appealing. The back is short and stacked while maintaining the length around the face for a soft, feminine, versatile look. I added golden highlights to their warm caramel base to create beautiful depth and dimension for a stunning style.
This timeless style has so many different variations that can be adapted to the specific needs and desires of each client. Being honest and real with your stylist about the amount of time you are willing to invest in styling will help him / her recommend suitable products for your hair and provide styling tips.
This timeless style can really be refined and detailed in so many ways to make it suitable for all hair textures and densities. It's amazing for a girl on the go, professionals, young and mature women !!!
For thin hair
This look is the perfect balance of sexy and chic for me. This cut is one of my absolute favorite haircuts for women with thin hair. My favorite part of this cut is how versatile he is. You can wear it elegant and sexy or add some soft waves for a playful, soft look.
If my client considers this haircut, I ask these questions. What is your everyday life? How much time do you want to spend on your hair every day? Which styling products and tools do you have at home?
This cut is super easy to style, but I always tell my customer that they need to blow dry their hair with a round brush to achieve the sleek look as pictured here, then finish with a straightener to smooth the sides to give it the sharp appearance.
The perfect face shape for this cut is round, as it will lengthen your face, but I love this cut on most face shapes, as you can adjust how long and angled the face will be to fit any face shape.
I would rate this hair cutting medium for maintenance as you need it trimmed about every 5-8 weeks to keep the shape.
Mostly, all hair types can deduct that. It all depends on the perfect styling products to make styling easier. My absolute favorite products are from Unite Hair. In this look, I've used a product called Unite Lazer Straight and Unite Boosta Volumizing Spray.
With pony and layers
This short angled bob haircut is fun and flirty. Their natural texture works with this cut. This kind of slightly jagged look is really the moment. It is for women who want to look together, as well as stylish, but want to spend little time in the morning.
This cut is paired with an edgy asymmetrical fringe to make it a little more fun. The neckline is soft and textured to give more of a feminine feel.
She has a small amount of waves in her hair, but with the right texturing and product usage, the wave jumps up and creates a ruffled beach wave look. The way I styled was easy. While it was wet, I have some Catwalk Sea Salt Spray from TIGI. The back was dried naturally. In the front, I dried everything and made volume, while intermittently scrubbing it with my hand. After drying, I sprayed the sea salt again and it collapsed. That took care of every frizz.
To give it even more of an edgy feel, you can use a texturizing paste to make the look stand out. After styling it would be a funny look to add some accessories. This is a simple, on-the-go, low-maintenance style and can be styled with just one product.
This cut is suitable for all ages. If you're worried about the face shape, do not do it. If you feel like you have a round face, add more volume, longer front length and longer bangs. This cut could be honestly personalized on every face shape.
Stacked Short Angled Bob
This bob is a classy hi-end style – a hairstyle that makes it easy to wear comfortable clothing to stylish clothing while still looking stylish and trendy. I wanted to choose a color that has expressed something deep and refined. I also wanted to make this bob, so when you get ready with a busy life, it just falls in place, creating a simple way of on-the-go and still stylish.
You have to have the right bone structure to have a raised bob. To achieve this eye-catching look, it would be best to have thick to coarse hair. It will make the Bob look more defined.
I like to use a very light anti-frizz cream to smooth out any fly. It tends to give the heeled Bob a more elegant look that creates sophistication for people who are busy living and do not have too much time to spend every day on their hair.
For curly hair
This haircut is a short mid-heeled bob with natural diffused curls. My favorite thing about this haircut is how it shows its natural curls. It also shows that even curly girls can have a nice angled bob.
Make sure it fits your lifestyle. This fabulous lady was a lifeguard who wanted something simple but stylish so she could still pull it up when she worked.
She also wanted to work with her natural curls, so we discussed what products she should use and decided to use Amikas Plus Size to help keep the shape of her curl and softness, without crunch having normal mousse.
Layered Short Angled Bob
I love this layered and bent Bob, because he is very slim and versatile. This is one of my favorite cuts. It has the edge that you can wear it smoothly to work, but still give it some beach waves and have some fun.
The color is very dimensional, although it gives the appearance of a neutral brown base, unless you are in natural light. There is a mix of four shades of brown from mocha to chestnut brown. Then we have their crown and glory section, as I call it, where it is heavily highlighted with super fine pieces as well as balayaged everywhere to still give the soft look of their natural base color as it starts to grow. So you have the best of both worlds.
Do you know that you can have fun with it! It requires some work, so be prepared to style it. Whether it's blowing out a round brush, ironing flat or using a wand, use products that help with styling, protect from heat and provide a little grip.
A good leave-in conditioner prep spray to restore the hair to its normal pH, a styling mousse, a blow-out balm, a shine / smoothing serum and a thermal protector are an absolute must. Short angled bob cuts like this have so many different styles to style – do not forget to be naughty!
Very short with a pony
This very short angled bob with pony is timeless, chic and easy to style.
I would tell you, blow-dry with a paddle brush to smooth it out and fight the ends that could turn the wrong way. You can also air-dry or use a diffuser to highlight the natural texture. Depending on the length, it can be worn with any face shape. It's definitely for someone with a hectic lifestyle who wants a manageable cut but still looks stylish.
Structured and springy
It's a dull bob with broken ends. I love that look because it's effortless and yet so chic!
This is ideal for curly or straight hair. This haircut needs a bit more maintenance by cutting every two to three months to wait.
For black hair
This is a shorter, angled bob with texture, and it is very naughty. It gives you attitude and confidence. Not many people can take that look away. One thing that I really like about it is that it attracts attention when you walk on the street. It shows the ability of the hairdresser and her technique. I have a lot to do with this haircut and style. What inspired me for this color look is autumn and winter. The dark tones, midnight blues and purple haze remind me of this season.
Everything depends on their face shape. If you have a shorter neck, accentuate it by pointing the neck and maybe stack it in the back. If you have a long neck, you might do more of an A-line bob.
What fascinates me about these types of haircuts is that it depends on the personality of the customer, and everything is customized and aligned with what suits them best. Maintenance wise, look at the haircut for about 8-9 weeks.
Maintenance at home is easy, and many times you just have to paddle dry and then iron flat. When one of my clients gets such a new look, part of the service is to teach them how to style it at home.
For round surfaces
This is the perfect short angled bob haircut for a round face. You will love to look at yourself in the mirror by wearing this beach wave hair on a light ginger color.
Long front, short back
This long front, short rear angled bob cut is cheap for most ladies with straight thin brunette hair. With subtle bangs, this haircut will complement your innocent and beauty kings-like face.
For thick hair
Her charisma shines best when combined with this stunning hairstyle for thick hair. The textured, long-angled bob cut is the ultimate in daring. Do it extra with the soft balayage and ombre hair color.
The rear view
The perfect short angled bob hairstyle does not look good on the front, but also has to be polished on the back. This French haircut on a natural balayaged brown and blond hair is a work of art by stylist Ryan Amacker. He proves that a first-class haircut and style "begins with a thorough consultation to determine what's best for your lifestyle and face shape."
For fine hair
Make the glass-looking effect of your hair your best advantage by styling this simple, short, angled bob cut with loose and thin waves. With blond highlights, this is the cutest hairstyle you can get for fine hair.
With side swept pony
Wanted a naughty hairstyle for your naughty attitude? Do not look any further. It's one of the coolest short angled bob haircuts you'll see. What is reinforced with more texture and volume on curls with laterally swept bangs. The rich, brunette balayage from look creator April Lancaster is enough to convince you to wear these now.
With pony
Are you the sweetest darling in your group? Combine your personality with a cute short angled bob with a pony. This is the right hairstyle for ladies with straight and straight hair on a combined brunette and brown hair color.

Ask a Hairstylist: The Best Low-Maintenance Short Haircuts for Fine, Straight Hair
Welcome to our Hair Consultations column. To request an online hair consultation, follow the instructions here.
Q: Hey! My name is Ciara and I'm just wondering what you think is the best hairstyle and colour for me.
Ciara is looking for a low-maintenance hairstyle.
I'm looking for something that doesn't require a lot of maintenance. I don't like having to layer product in, and I try not to use a hairdryer on my hair all the time.
Thanks for watching!
I currently have a pixie, which I really like, but I'm kind of wanting a change. Maybe just a different style of pixie cut, or I've even been considering growing it out into a bob.
Ciara has fine, straight, medium brown hair.
My hair is naturally a medium brown colour and is poker straight. I have very fine hair, but my hairdresser always says I have lots of it. It can get quite staticky and gets oily pretty quickly. I try not to wash it everyday, but sometimes I can't get away with it.

Thank you for taking the time do my consultation and looking forward to seeing your suggestions! — Ciara
A: Ciara, thank you for a great description of your hair and for including a photo of your upper body. This was very good direction for me.
People always think that a pixie is going to be lower maintenance, but it's actually the opposite—it's higher maintenance. With a short haircut, you're always going to be going to the hairdresser every eight weeks or sooner.
I think a bob will be closer to your goal of an easy-to-care-for hairstyle. I would do a medium-length or long bob around the collarbone.
First, you will need to grow out your pixie to a chin-length bob with a side bang. This is the hardest part.
You want to grow the sides and top, keeping your fringe landing on the cheekbone. The back should stay short for now, until the rest of the hair catches up.
Keira Knightley at the 2005 premiere of 'The Jacket.'
Sienna Miller at the 2014 Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
Olivia Wilde at the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
This in-between stage is tough. We call it the awkward stage. Your stylist should be texturizing the weight from the top while it's growing.
You will also need to become more creative than usual to create texture. You may have to use more product in the short term. Play with braids, scarves, hair accessories, curling it or straightening it.
Once your hair has grown out into the bob look, you will be able to air-dry it and it will become much easier to maintain.
Emma Stone visiting Good Morning America in 2014.
Halle Berry at the 2016 Makers Conference.
The bangs suit you, so you could do a full fringe once you have the bob.
Add a little bit of soft texture, but nothing too crazy on the layers. Keep it simple. By the time your hair is to the collarbone, being playful with your hair will come naturally.
As for your colour, if you keep it the way it is now, you're going to have too much darkness around your face with the bob. So you will need some colour on your lips, like a coral.
Otherwise, I suggest doing more of the sun-kissed highlights that you already have. They should be a little bit gold, like you've been on the beach for two or three months. It will soften your skin tone a lot.
Gisele Bündchen's sun-kissed highlights.

New short(ish) hair and how I regret every life decision ever that has led me to where I am today
Something unsurprising happened: I did a stupid thing. I cut my hair. I got a “low bob”/“lob”. (Well, a hairdresser cut it - even I’m not that stupid, except that I am, but we’ll get to it.) Now when straightened it just about touches my shoulders. My hair hasn’t been this short in about 15 years. I had this awkward phase in middle school when my hair was close to this length. It looked awful. A perm was included. Don’t ask. Nobody makes smart choices at that age.
But most people learn from their mistakes. Clearly, I’m not one of them. (No I did not get a perm, even my idiocy has its limits.)
The full story filled with regret, burnt body parts, and self-loathing behind the cut.
Background: I had long hair but in terrible condition, the ends were practically dead and it was tangled 24/7 . So I figured hey, middle length cut is back in style and it’s advertised as the most low-maintenance cut ever, I want that! So what if it didn’t work out before and I ended up wearing my hair on a ponytail for the entire middle school - for a reason - maybe I just didn’t know how to style but I know better now. I was dreaming about those cool beachy waves you see everywhere. My hair is naturally curly, but not in a nice way (it is possible for hair to be curly and flat and totally unmanageable), and I never had the patience to use hot tools to curl my long hair. I always tried to straighten it as much as I could and that was all I could do to it. I wanted a change.
Mistake number one: Pinterest. NEVER EVER GO ON PINTEREST FOR HAIR INSPIRATION. Or instagram. Or look at celebrities. No you can’t pull that off. No you don’t have a personal stylist. Control yourself ffs.
Mistake number two: cutting your hair will make it easier to style. WRONG. I figured if I got a cut that would allow me to tie it up when needed while being much shorter than it was, I could create all these pretty styles I couldn’t handle with my long stubborn hair. Ha ha HA. No. Now my hair is just short and stubborn - and therefore even more difficult to manage. Still dry, still rough, still flat.
Mistake number three: not realising what cutting your hair will do to it. I kinda knew I have thick hair but it had been in such a bad condition for so long that I guess I forgot. However, once all that dead weight was cut off, it wasn’t replaced with shine and flow - it was replaced by even heavier weight of my thick hair on my neck - it’s not that thick on the sides, just in the back. Somebody please bring back mullets?
Mistake number four: ignoring your limitations. I have a really high forehead and a visible scar on it, so I need bangs of some sort. Always. The problem is, I hate bangs, and I never get heavy ones. But still, I always have bangs and I hate them. But I hate my forehead even more so there you go. Long or short hair, I can’t win. Also, naturally curly hair means layering is not really an option because it leads to multiple ends sticking out in every direction, and there’s not a damn thing I can do about that (I learnt the hard way). So I didn’t get layers this time. Thick hair. Heavy weight. See where I’m going with this?
Emotional breakdown: burnt all my fingers and both my ears with a curling wand. I spent all day yesterday trying to style my new hair: curl it, pin it up, straighten it, anything and everything. Watched a shitload of youtube tutorials. Nothing worked and I was in tears. I ended up trimming the ends myself last night (we’re literally talking about 2 a.m.), just to break them a little. I refuse to count this as a mistake because it actually helped a little bit, even if the affect would be purely psychological, I take it. I’ve never trimmed anything but my bangs before so thank God this didn’t result in a complete disaster or else I would be booking an over-priced emergency appointment to any hairdresser I could find while crying on the phone. (Disclaimer: I’m not encouraging anyone to cut their hair themselves. Just. Don’t. Do. It.)
Current situation: I need to start wearing hats. I hate my hair. I hate myself. I hate everything and everyone. I’m currently wearing a high bun held up by a thousand bobby pins and I intend to wear my hair like this for the next six months and/or stay at home (because I’m really not a hat person, who am I kidding). If I wear my hair down now it either looks like a triangle or a box - or both (this is also a thing that can happen). I have my official university graduation party on Friday and I’ll probably just pull a paper bag over my head, cut some eye-holes and... I don’t know. Perhaps one day I will accept the harsh fact that I can never style my hair to look nice - but today is not that day. Today just sucks.
SEND HELP.
#jo:unscripted#and don't you dare to talk to me about hair extensions#I can't afford that shit#and to add to this#it's been A MONTH#and my thesis still hasn't been graded#and this other dumb professor whose signature I need won't respond to my emails#and I have ten days to fill out my application for a diploma#(which I can't do without all the grades and necessary signatures)#or I won't graduate this spring#and all of this is STRESSING THE LIFE OUT OF ME#I just update my university email even though it's saturday#while sobbing into my tea cup#why is my life like this?

I’ve already lamented about how I chopped my hair with a pair of kitchen scissors, and then got a new hair cut, but today I want to talk about how I got to the point of chopping my hair off.
I’ve been told I have some of the best hair by hairdressers– it’s curly and thick. I’ve also been told holy crap you have a lot of hair. I come from a family of fantastic and thick hair.
My siblings and I.
My parents and my brother, who has the best hair out of all of us.
When I was a real little kid I had very blonde wavy hair, this slowly turned into dark blonde straight hair by the time I was in fifth grade.
The best picture I could find of my light blonde wavy hair.
In forth grade on Mackinac Island.
My first communion in second grade I think.
When I hit puberty my hair decided it was going to be curly and curly it became. I ended up wearing ball caps and visors a lot, and just kept it in a pony tail because I had no idea what to do with it.
At the Olympic Mountains in Washington State with my Mom and sister. I was like 10 or 11.
At the original Kentucky Fried Chicken in Corbin Kentucky when I was around 12.
When I was thirteen I got swoopy bangs which was just a bad idea.
Jammin’ with my awful bangs.
When I was fourteen I ended up dying part of my hair blue. It was an awful process and my mom and I tried like three different blue semi-permanent hair dyes before we got streaks bleached and the blue put in, by one of my mom’s friends.
My blue hair and the box had my first cell phone in it. Also note I parted my bangs.
By the end of the summer the blue had turned a cool sea foam color– due to pool chlorine. Then the color washed out and I had three bleach stripes in my hair.
I had someone ask me if my hair naturally had bleached sections in it. circa age 15.
Once I got into high school I didn’t have a haircut until after I graduated so my hair got really long. Also It settled into a dirty blonde/mousy brown color that I hated and always wanted to dye my hair like red but was too chicken.
16 in Paris.
I hate this picture of me we had walked like all the way up the Eiffel Tower and I was exhausted and sweaty… but look at how long my hair was!
At the Sears Tower in Chicago– also age 16.
Age 17 during my “senior trip” with my grandparents to Nashville.
After my high school graduation I decided it was time to chop off my hair and finally dye it. I ended up not dying it my senior year because I wanted there to be documentation of my natural hair color– and I was afraid of being seen as a try hard. The day after my graduation I dyed my hair and have never looked back. By august I had it chopped off to my shoulders, and never again have I had super long hair.
My friend Stephen, myself, and my little sister at the North Western Michigan Fair.
I don’t know how it happened but my hair also got way more curly, probably because I was actually taking care of it at this point.
Probably the best my hair ever looked during my freshman year of college.
My hair at the Rolling Stones Detroit Concert– a birthday present to myself.
My hair had started to get long again by my 19th birthday.
Then I went through some hair crisis where I wanted bangs. When I had gotten those swoopy bangs in middle school I had actually wanted flat across bangs– like I had when I was kid. I ended up getting the swoopy bangs because my grandma– who paid for my haircut– was convinced that’s what I wanted, even though I said that was not what I wanted. So, as I realized nobody could boss me around when it came to my hair anymore I wanted the bangs that I had wanted for years. A healthy dose of documentaries about 1970’s music also contributed. I also got a lot of people telling me not to do it because I have curly hair, and apparently we curly haired people can’t have bangs, to which I call BS.
A curling iron and hairspray were my best friends, but it looked really good.
Even when they frizzed and started to curl they still were exactly what I wanted.
I then had another hair crisis and got my middy by the first week of summer, because I was putting my longish hair into braids and ponytails and it was getting unmanageable. I have no idea how I did it in high school.
I loved this haircut so much.
By the end of the summer I was about to go to England, and had an emotional roller coaster of a summer and just needed a new hair color. So, I did what any jilted person would do I bleached my hair and it looked fine. Except it totally killed it and made it all frizzy.
This is the face of a person done with your BS.
I had my bleached hair essentially until I got my recent hair cut. After I got back from England my hair was getting long again and I wasn’t having all this damaged hair, so my mom cut it into a straight around bob.
I’m wearing a Kylie Jenner Lip kit in this, because I am a weak person.
The bob was really cute, until it grew out and essentially that’s what my hair had been up until my most recent cut.
My grown out bob at Art Prize, with my cousin.
I then did the thing where I cut my bangs with kitchen scissors. My roommate was terrified when I took the scissors to the bathroom but emerged victorious and happy.
It was a really good job FYI.
I again grew sick of my hair and got it cut into a not-middy short cut.
I took this after I showered and right before bed, it never looks this good the next day.
That is my hair evolution up until now. It’s been a wild ride of lengths, textures, and shades of blonde. I’ve been really tempted to dye my hair red, like Dana Scully in the X-Files, but I’m afraid I am still quite chicken when it comes to changing my hair color from a not blonde shade. We’ll see what happens though.
I vainly judge my past hairstyles. I've already lamented about how I chopped my hair with a pair of kitchen scissors, and then got a…

Any haircut will translate into what Descoteaux says about Byrne's look. If your layers are too short at the moment, then you add some of the things you need to do. How do you need this hairstyle. On a daily basis you can't just blow dry blast and rub a cream in style and let the rest air dry, Byrne Descoteaux said. But if you want a more polished finish dry.
