What is your sunlight theory about?
Hi, baby, buckle up, because this one is crazy. I don't know if you're familiar with the construction on sunset theory, I'll link some posts that will explain that better than I can here and here, but basically, you have the way everything about Ana in season 4 and the beginning of that relationship, happens around Sunset Boulevard, and you have the way Eddie is late coming back from the date in 4x08 because "there was construction on sunset" and he had to take a detour and then Buck and Eddie proceed to have one of the most domestic buddie scene in the show, all that after the most awkward date ever with Ana, created this whole "Ana was a detour on Eddie's way to Buck" (particularly, I love this as someone who views the shooting as Eddie's oh moment, and I know the show is gonna take that away from me, but it will be my truth until they do) and considering we as a fandom like to take things and run with them, that became a whole thing because Eddie has some sun imagery attached to him when it comes to relationships, which is definitely not just about Buck, even more with the way he's sitting on the sunset reading Shannon's letter, but like, we have the painting on Pepa's house behind Vanessa, stuff like that, but we also have things like Buck using sunset colors to draw his heart on the "I misunderstood the assignment" scene. I have been curious about the sunlight of it all since I wrote this post, because with one episode, and the fact that we don't know if the sun is setting or rising during the locker scene, I couldn't really create a pattern that would lead me anywhere. Then the loft stills leaked. Because then we would have 2 scenes where the sun seems to be important a few episodes apart, but I hadn't really thought about the construction on sunset angle until this picture.
Because paired with the sunset light on Buck's bi awakening, and the sunset light here, I'm making the executive decision that yeah, the sun was setting in the locker room.
I don't want to say Tommy is a detour, Tommy started a huge discovery for Buck that Buck wouldn't realize alone, but an anon pointed out how maybe they hurt Eddie so that he couldn't show up at the loft so that we could have the Tommy, so they quite literally had some detour happening during a sunset, like what the fuck?
But I'm really interested in the blue aspect of the scenes. @stagefoureddiediaz has some really interesting color and costume metas, including one on the use of yellow and blue in season 5, that talks about how yellow is a color used for communication and blue is a color used for, like, introspection, which could mean something interesting is cooking here. Because Buck's shirt in the basketball is blue, his shirt on the loft is blue, Eddie's shirt in the locker room is also blue and Buck's jacket also has blue detailing.
We know Buck and Eddie will have an important conversation, but that associated with the sunset theory, and they were literally on the sunset, I think the sun is finally actually setting now. No more detours. Only the discoveries they need to have in order to work as a couple. Buck's bisexuality is huge on that front, and I don't wanna say Eddie is gonna suddenly look at Buck after he comes out and be like 👀👀👀, but at the same time Eddie "questioning his place in the world" could very much be Eddie looking at Buck and being like "oh, that's an option?" especially if he's having trouble connecting with Marisol (random addon but with the sunset being a detour for Eddie, I think is hysterical that Marisol is named Marisol, because her name sounds like "Mar e Sol" and that's literally "Sea and Sun" in Portuguese, Spanish too but I don't really speak Spanish so it wasn't my initial connection there, and the sun setting on the sea it's a thing, and I feel insane for typing this out, but it's there, her name is the detour), this could mean they are gonna talk, and work through things, and get closer the way Ryan and Oliver keep teasing and reach the conclusion they are meant to be together.
Okay addon you don't know it's an addon because you're seeing this post as a whole thing at once but I hadn't thought to look at other buddie conversations until right now, but that particular pattern of light being present in 2 scenes where we see them finally be honest with each other makes it even more interesting to me really.
Because if you look at Buck's bisexual awakening as a moment of Buck being honest with himself and the locker room as Buck being honest about why he got in the relationship with Natalia, the sun behind Eddie, if it's only behind Eddie, could sparkle Eddie into some honesty himself and about himself, and that's what they need, open and honest communication. Because if yellow is used for communication, the sun could be being used for honesty.
But that's just a theory. A game theory. (sorry I said it out loud and had to add it oskaoskaoskas)
Anyway, that's all I have right now, if you read this I love you 🫶

Queer Madrigals
I'm about to post a couple future!fic for Encanto, so I figured I'd take a minute to talk about my headcanons when it comes to their genders/sexualities.
The Obvious: I've posted somewhat in depth about what I think Bruno and Isabela's individual deals are, so I'm not going to really talk about it here, but yeah. Using the labels I am familiar with, I assume Bruno is demi, bi, and nonbinary, and that Isabela is a lesbian who ends up marrying a trans woman.
The Married: I mean, we can sit here all day and speculate, but the only real headcanons I got are that Juli is demi and Pepa has made out with more women than Bruno.
Mirabel: I've mentioned this, but I didn't really talk about it. Due to heteronormativity I suspect it wouldn't occur to Mirabel to question her sexuality until later in life when the Pride movement starts up. I think she's bi, possibly also demi, but most definitely not very focused on her love life (another reason why she doesn't think too hard about her sexuality). She's got shit to do and if somebody wants to date her they better speak up about it because she's got too many projects going on right now to bother with mind games. Mirabel ends up with a man mostly by coincidence, I saw somebody do the numbers and its just statistically more likely that a bi person will end up with somebody of the opposite sex (the math didn't factor for gender). I try to keep all of my headcanons grounded to peoples lived experiences, and this felt historically accurate.
Luisa: I think that if Luisa were a tumblrina she would end up being CIS+, but would have to go through the journey of exploring her gender due to societal biases. In the context of 1950's Colombia, she spends her youth hearing abuelas and tias talking about how she needs to be more feminine if she wants a husband, and struggles with that for a while. Luisa sings "I glow because I know what my worth is" and that's the sort of thing somebody says when they're on the other side of some serious self doubt, so I do think she had to deal with a bit of misogyny and body image issues. The thing is, Luisa likes the way she looks, and she's proud of what a hard worker she is, but she also wears ribbons in her hair and skirts instead of pants to work in. Furthermore, I suspect every bi person in the village, male or female, has a huge fucking crush on her because if she was a modern tumblrina people would be responding to pictures of her with that "not to be a lesbian but oh my god" stuff. I headcanon her as being technically cishet, but culturally gay due to people being people about the whole Woman with Biceps thing, if that makes sense. Once she starts allowing herself some free time, she dates every bi man in the village.
Dolores: Morosexual. No offense Mariano.
Camilo: You know how gender is a product of your culture and different societies throughout history have had different ideas of how many genders there are and what it means to be a man or woman? I think being able to turn into a woman at will would have an effect on Camilo's relationship with his gender. Like, I don't know if he would be full nonbinary, because I have never met a shapeshifter and asked them how they feel about gender, but I can't imagine he sees gender as a rigid binary. Like I said, I try to stay grounded in my headcanons, and I have zero idea what the lived experience of a shapeshifter is, soooooo...?
Antonio: I have spent a long time weighing the options here, his association with animals makes me think he would be the least traditional Madrigal, so I would like to think he'd end up in the least conventional relationship. I posted a list of headcanons where I floated the idea of him being poly, but I like the idea of him being aroace better. I stand by the rest of it, though. He marries a lesbian, let's her girlfriend move in with them, and he's just kinda there. Like, the women consider themselves married to each other and he's just some guy who talks to birds. They're his best friends and thinks he's pretty great but the only time he has sex is when him and the wives want kids, and other than that he's just vibing. I arrived at this headcanon because I love the idea of him being sorta a reverse Bruno. Like, people think he has two wives so everybody assumes he's this total lady killer, they sing songs about how charming he is, rumors abound that he can make a girl swoon with a single smile, then you talk to him and he's just some guy. Occasionally, a woman will throw herself at him and he's like "No thanks" then starts having a conversation with her cat. Do you see my vision? Anyone? I don't care if nobody else thinks it's funny, because I'm giggling at my computer.

What a man what a man what a mighty good man
I'm already into season 3 so this is my season 2 reaction, at somepoint i stop reacting bc i started doing bracelets while i watch the show, so, yeah, enjoy what i have
1x02
The soundtrack is so good, if Ryan Murphy knows what to do is musicalize a tv show
Okay but if was necessary to introduce Eddie with Whatta man? (Mateo of the future: yes it was)
Jsjsjsj you are kidding, Buck see it as competition?? You are the other father of his child
Hen leaving aside her indignation about the calendar to bother Buck, i love her
What you mean Buck realize he is bi in season 8, if this is how Buck see it now that he "hates" him i can't imagine how bad is going to get
Buck don't fuck your sister, Deancoded even with that /j
If my sister doesn't talk to me for 3 years i asumme she is dead, how you didn't look for her??
No Athena twitting a tv show, this is about me??
Eddie faces when Buck is doing his macho thing 😂😂
Eddie tells Bucks he is good handling pressure and Buck is like "what??me?? 🥺👉🏻👈🏻" at least pretend you aren't into him
Mr. April!! Hen is such a good friend, i want at least two episodes about her, please
2x02
Christopher! The cutes kid alive! I think dogs know that we are diferent species, they are very intelligent
If Buck hasn't a firefighter he could be a monsterhunter, we already discussed this, Buck is Dean Winchester
Second episode and Buck and Eddie are already join into the hip?? Okay
All cops are bastards and this counts for Athena
Maddie doing her job as she cries, relatable
2x03
Buck taking Eddie to look for Chris?? Why is Buck there? Are they already dating?
The two earthquakes episodes are so good!! I love them
Hen is my favorite character of the show,is she considering leaving?? A quitting the job arc?? (Future me: i though this bc of how she was watching the bold kid family but no it was a will we get a second kid arc)
2x04
I get his last name is Diaz, has the episode need to start with a bolero? Jsjsjsj
Girls trying to flirt with Buck and Eddie? understandable, but no one flirting with Hen?? Unacceptable, she is the hottest one
Buck asking Eddie why doesn't date is Buck trying to flirt with him i can't read this any other way
Eddie taking Buck to a family emergency?? Insane, so you are boyfriends now
Gringos know that una tia latina can have another name than Pepa??
"Your ex gringa" jsjsjsjs muy de tia, but ma'am your nephew is the everyday american man poster what are you saying
I love Chris is the cutest kid ever and the show knows it
No, why they meet like two months ago (idk this show timeline) and they are already marry??
I understand why buddie shippers are insane, episode four since we meet eddie and this two are like this
(Sorry for the shitty screenshots, Disney is a bitch)
BOYCRUSH
"She got her life change and all i got is the trauma" jsjsjsjs Chimney you are so funny this season
After i though what a funny episode a guy dies bc a escalator got him, what a nice show
Carla!! I hope a black person got into the writers room bc i swear to good
2x05
It makes all the sense of the world that Danny and Athena kids are friends
Okay the racist guy, how this is executed idk if theres a black writer on the team, feels too on the nose
I really like this episode, especially the Hen B plot, love her, love her struggles.
2x06
And we are back to shipping, Buck assuming Maddie talks about Eddie?? What you want from me show
2x07
I thought Chris mom was dead..... okay, SORRY
"I needed someone to had my back" How this is not a direct parallel to 2x01 when Buck and Eddie say this to each other C'MON
2x08
They putting down a horse is so sad, i think i will have my period soon bc everything on this show makes me cry, the whole thing with Maddie too
I love how the show handles themes and parallels, the whole haunted thing, as a halloween episode but also as the living gosths we have of our pass, love that.
Also love the parallel of Abby leaving the house not knowing who she is and Buck doing the same!
Someone do an exorcism to that house.
2x08
The episode just started and i am crying i love Buck
Maddie and Chim being good at karaoke is just a detail that does nothing, but is so fucking cool!! Of course they are good at being together
"To restrained" and the most obvious scene is next
Jsjsjs i think she is using Buck
The old couple story??
WHAT YOU MEAN BUCK REALIZE HE IS BI IN SEASON 8 and not at the end of this season that it could make so much sense???
Bc what was the old men story for if not to set up Buck with a man??
2x09
A Hen episode!?? Yes PLEASE
The fact the finding herself and what she wants to do is also tie to Hen stop trying to be so femmem, yes girl, burn that wig
Tommy!? Bucks Tommy? Well now i undestand some comments about him
So funny that they are using Twilight so you know what year is it
Chimney always trying to help Hen!!
I love that the message is you can't do this alone, you need people than helps but also that understands
Yes, fuck that captain, some people can learn, and will, the people who doesn't, fuck them
Love Hen, i undestand her so much better, know i need to know who her and her wife meet
2x10
Buck with a little girl!! He is such a father (pls someone get him pregnant)
Chim really trying not to fuck it up with Maddie is precious
I got to the elf girl thinking Buck and Eddie are the fathers of Chris, give me an explanation to put that scene in there if is not gay!
But seriously, eddie back with his wife but not really sure what to do with her, buck in this discovering himself arc, the whole old men couple, c'mon c'mon, how, how, how is not gay, and why are this two not cannon??
2x12
I love to learn more about Chimney
How the flashback just bleends with reality is such a cool thing to do, i love this episode
Also i love how in all of the beginnings theres someone how extent their hands and helps the new one, because they will never be where they are if wasn't the a kind person willing to help
2x15
I didn't like this episode to mimicky for my taste, but i understand, at the beginning i thought this kind of reminds me of my favorite tv show Los sinuladores, and if i had the opportunity to make an 911 episode could be 100% trying to squeeze an simuladores reference there
..........
Well this are my reactions after this i start doing other stuff an also working, i have a job, shocking.
My final thoughts are, i like the Bobby Beginnings episode, but i don't think i learn something new about him.
Carla still bothers me, she still doesn't have a life outside of the white chracters like they could have show her family in the eddie party.
Hen, Maddie and Buck are my favorite characters you know is going to be a an amazing episode when they focus to one of those three.
Also i didn't love Bucks romantic think this season, bc it didn't go anywhere, he had 2 kind of girlfriends that i didn't bother to learn their names and thats it. He should date men, right now. But whatever, i hope he gets a life outside of being a firefighter, that boy needs to get a little healthier.

my opinion, like many in the fandom, is that Buck has always been a little bi coded, and I think handling it like the way abc handled Rosa Diaz being bi, by simply having Buck drop some information he’s always known about himself but never been comfortable sharing, would be a decent way of handling it. for one thing, having both buck and eddie go through a gay panic thing would be a lot for one season, and maybe a bit repetitive, and I think it would be perfectly in character, while adding a really lovely layer to Maddie & Buck’s relationship, that Maddie has always known Buck was bisexual, and has attempted (maybe awkwardly) over the years to get Buck to be more comfortable with it. I also think it would add a really wonderful layer to Buck and Chim’s relationship (again, to make the b99 comparison bc this is a textbook “if i had a nickel for every time a beloved, diverse show involving police officers got canceled by fox and picked up by ABC bc beloved diverse shows with a really active fan base are their bread and butter i’d have two nickels” situation lol), the same way it was a natural & moving way to have the first person Rosa came out to be Charles, if Chim finds out because Buck needs to talk to Maddie about how he and Eddie had a stress induced make out on Eddie’s couch and then Eddie had a panic attack over being gay, and Chim is there trying to connect the dots of this conversation & be supportive bc Buck is anxiously mumbling while bear hugging Jee in his kitchen. And “Buck has been bisexual the entire time” leaking out to the rest of the 118 has a lot of potential; we know they’re all gossipy & nosy about each other, and Chim is terrible at keeping important secrets, so Hen & Bobby piecing it together from Buck‘s sudden interest in LA Gay Culture & Chim’s nervous stuttering, while Ravi is like “happy that you’re comfortable enough to come out to me Buck but again, i do not need to know this much detail about your personal life” all of this just seems like a very natural, easy way of getting Buck to come out.
and that leaves the Gay Panic storyline to Eddie, lmao. because whether they decide to go with the common fandom idea of “eddie is gay but due to being a really macho dude from Texas, born into a family of very typically ‘we will always love you no matter if you’re straight or choose to be gay’ esque family, has been heavy repressing it all these years” or they decide to make him bisexual, it’s clear that Eddie’s continued wild misses at dating women, panic attacks over the idea of being with a woman, and naming another man as the caretaker of his child in case he dies, that Eddie is primed to have an absolute break down if he ever comes out. Is it very similar to Carlos’ story? Yeah, obviously, but they’re incredibly different people, and more than that, the type of family they come from is incredibly common in this day and age, and whereas we’ve seen the fallout of all the shame that comes with feeling like your parents love isn’t unconditional wrt Carlos, we never saw the initial, badly handled coming out that prompted this break in the Reyes family, and we would be seeing that with Eddie and the Diaz family! not only that, but we have Hen & Toni there to help Eddie (and his parents & pepa & abuelita) through it, to help them handle what are bound to be difficult conversations on Eddie’s history of dating women his family will like that he has minimal interest in, and what happens now that Eddie is once again testing the unconditional aspect of his family’s love.
And that’s not even touching The Bobby And Athena Of It All, from Bobby once again relating to Eddie’s struggles of “what do you do when you feel like the core of who you are has shifted and everyone else is standing still” to Athena having intimate knowledge of the effect of coming out late in life, after you’ve lived a whole life as an ostensibly heterosexual man. We could get a really touching scene between Bobby & Athena and Buck, discussing how this is something he’s always known but it’s just been easier to let it go unsaid even if he knew Bobby and the rest of the 118 would be loving and supportive if he ever came out. Imagine the jokes re: Buck, Eddie, AND Hen being the messiest gays in LA while Ravi is begging them to Say Less.
I think the storyline potential of “Buck and Eddie impulsively make out after a stressful call in ep 1 and then skirt around their feelings for at least half a season” can be really rich, and also kind of in line for how abc has handled a character who got popular for being bi coded, and I’m not saying i trust them to not be cowards about it, but I am saying they shouldn’t be cowards about it.
#rani makes text posts no one will read#buddie#118#firefam#like i won’t say jake was ever queer textually but i do think abc let them lean into it a lot and i did appreciate that. and while i wish#that eleanor had said the words ‘i am bisexual’ out loud once again i can appreciate them consistently highlighting her attraction to women#AND letting tahani end up single instead of shoehorning in a male love interest. as well as the climax of jason/janet’s story being hit he#‘let’s go get our girl’ ‘not a girl’ moment. and however i thought the first two abc seasons of b99 sucked they always handled rosa & ray#wonderfully!!!! they literally gave us kevin & ray falling back in love and having a wedding!!! they’re capable of not being cowards!#unlike fox who put a woman who clearly dislikes eddie & the concept of found families in charge of the show 💀💀#911#rani attempts meta#this goes in that tag bc it’s long and speculative

Long time lurker on buddie tumblr, first time poster because I NEED to get this out since I haven’t seen anyone mention it yet re: Eddie, repressed queerness and Catholicism. Everyone’s focusing on this episode’s mentions of Eddie being alone while ignoring a little moment which, to me, speaks hugely of Eddie’s repressed queerness.
I’m not necessary a gay!Eddie truther but I am a big fan of the idea that he is a repressed gay man. Why? Because when I look at him I see myself.
I am an ex-Catholic, gay woman who repressed my gayness so damn hard that I managed to wipe certain memories from myself until I start unpacking all my trauma and managed to come to terms with the idea of being not straight first, and eventually being completely okay with being 100% homosexual.
The reason this is bugging me so hard is because I had to pause 6x14 less than two minutes in to face palm and bemoan Eddie’s ridiculousness.
Why?
“I can’t marry a stranger.”
Pepa is presenting the idea of dating to Eddie and his immediate response is to jump to the idea of marrying this person.
When he was dating Ana, the only thing he was considering with her was her appropriateness for raising Christopher with him, not whether she made him smile, made his heart race, whether he couldn’t imagine life without her. But whether she was nice and easy to be with enough that he could marry her for Christopher to have a step mother but as soon as that thought became a little more concrete he panicked because he wasn’t actually ready for it.
Pepa presents a potential date to Eddie and he (however mildly) immediately freaks out and jumps straight to the idea of marrying this woman he’s never met before.
Eddie....what the hell, bro?
Even Pepa is like ‘who said anything about marriage?’
But the thing is I GET IT.
I totally get it. Eddie’s Catholic. I’m Catholic. We probably had similar upbringings regarding relationships and how you’re supposed to pursue them. For anyone who was lucky enough not to have Catholicism inflicted upon them from birth, you need to understand how being raised Catholic makes you view marriage.
When you’re Catholic, marriage isn’t something that may happen if you meet the right person and it’s something you both want and makes sense for you and your relationship. When you’re Catholic, marriage is an REQUIREMENT. It’s a must. It’s shoved down your throat as something you need to do in order to have a fulfilling life and be a good Catholic. Marriage is something to aspire to. It’s pushed on you as something to have to do.
The Catholic church has sacraments that mark important milestones in your life and one of those is matrimony. It’s not presented as an option, it’s presented as something you must do in order to complete your journey in life. Go forth and multiply and all that shit.
So, Eddie being raised Catholic and Eddie immediately equating dating someone with marrying them makes sense. It makes so much sense to me as a Catholic.
AND it also makes sense if Eddie’s a gay man.
One of the things I did prominently and repeatedly in life in order to repress my gayness was choose men to fall for, and I didn’t just consider them someone to date, I considered them someone I was going to marry and have children with. Be the good Catholic girl. I didn’t necessarily see it a religious experience but it was definitely an influence brought to me by being raised Catholic and attending Catholic schools.
Eddie being presented with nice, pretty, easy to get along with women he could date immediately considering whether he could marry them is such a repressed gay Catholic thing to do.
Oh, but Erin, he could be bi and the same thing applies.
Yes and no. I hope this doesn’t come out sounding wrong but I think he would respond differently if he was repressing being bisexual as opposed to being gay. Being bisexual would mean he could still be attracted to those women and could pretend his attraction to men didn’t exist and would still be able to have satisfactory and happy, lasting relationships with women. Eddie can’t seem to do that. He loved Shannon, yes, I will fight anyone and everyone who claims he didn’t, but he was younger then. I loved plenty of men when I was younger and I definitely loved them but that didn’t mean I was ever truly attracted to them or could have satisfying relationships with them in the long run. And wasn’t that the entire point of the Eddie/Shannon fiasco in season 2? That it never would have been good for either of them in the long run? As much as he loved her, he married her the first time because she got pregnant and then he wanted to try again with her so they could be a family for Christopher’s sake and because they thought they had gotten pregnant again.
The idea of Eddie focusing so hard on the idea that a good, straight, Catholic boy needs to marry a good, nice, pretty woman to me says he’s definitely repressing queerness. And look, I’m here for bi Eddie, pan Eddie, demi Eddie, any of them, just as long as the damn show acknowledges his queerness, but gay Eddie makes so much sense to me personally, because I see so much of myself in his reactions to the women he dates.
And so many things about his behaviour in 6x14 are calling to me in very familiar ways. But that’s just my thoughts, I dunno. I’d love for the show to do a really lovely coming out story for Eddie (a la Santana in Glee. Problematic show but my god I always cry when she comes out to her Abuela in 3x07). I try not to get my hopes about it but I’d like it.
#buddie#buddie 911#911#911 s6 speculation#911 s6#911 s6 spoilers#eddie diaz#catholic trauma is real people#and eddie diaz is definitely a victim of it#gay ex-catholics unite

and gay bruno ofc, but aroace bruno has a place in my heart too
mirabel i usually see as bisexual (i have a bf/husband oc for her) but i do have a soft spot to an earlier idea that she was a lesbian (and by 'earlier idea', i mean i saw it once and never again but it clung to my mind like milk duds)
same for luisa. i seesaw between luisa being a lesbian and being bisexual. sometimes im 😐 at luisa/male ocs, but if it's done right, i find myself enjoying them! (out of all luisa male love interests, ive enjoyed...maybe 2 or 3? which isnt that many but they were well written 🤷) either way i think she likes girls and girls like her
(also the thought of all cool color girls being lesbians is so funny to me LMAO, julieta and agustín are NOT getting grandkids)
dolores i see having a quirky girl romance with mariano (shoutout to all the good fics that convinced me about them) so she might be straight? but also that doesnt feel right either so maybe bi. man maybe she's demi actually-
camilo...hmm i see him as either gay or aroace. see this ones tricky bc i find it funny to make him have an unattainable crush so he can be #dolorescore, but also find it funny if he's 😐😐😐 about romance. sometimes im like hmmm maybe i should combine those and say he's gay aromantic.... or gay ace. i could also say he's bi/pan but tbh thatd imply i think hes into girls. i guess it doesnt matter tho bc he's staying single and childless LMAO
félix and agustín are bisexual. i think they kissed and had a weird gay thing before splitting off to be hetero with a their wives
julieta and pepa....see theyre complicated?? i do like the idea of them kissing girls tho, i think they should. they are bisexual to me <3 but like alma, félix, and agustín, its not that important to me bc theyre married
lastly, i do not think about antonio, pedro, or mariano <3
my sexuality headcanons for the madrigals change like the seasons, but the constants are lesbian isabela and bisexual alma
#txt#me refusing to make any of the madrigals straight lmaooo#''realistically'' the straight people would be alma and the two couples. but who cares lmao bisexuality be upon you#long post

How about a follow up of Felix finding out Pepa being bi.
Isabella finds out Pepa is bi and is questioning her own sexuality? She didn’t know who to go to about it, but seeks out Pepa to talk to?
Follow-up to this prompt right here.
Same disclaimers apply as before.
“It’s nice getting to spend time with you, tía.” Isabela gathered the floral arrangements she had already made and placed them on the table.
Pepa hummed her agreement. “Thank you for helping me with Dolores’ engagement party.” She leaned towards her sobrina, whispering conspiratorially, “I wouldn’t trust anyone else with the decorations.”
Isabela chuckled, the sound a far cry from the light, polished laugh she would give before. “Don’t let the others hear you say that!”
“Well it’s true.” Pepa turned over one of the flower arrangements in her hands, examining it. Instead of her usual pastels, it featured striking red and gold flowers streaked with yellow and small white blossoms dotted throughout. Perfect for Dolores and Mariano. “You have an eye for these things. These arrangements are stunning.”
Isabela smiled bashfully. “I thought the colors would suit Mariano and Dolores.”
“They certainly do.” Pepa beamed, a rainbow lighting up her face. She glanced over at Isabela, who had busied herself with ribbons and crepe paper. The whole shift in plans from Mariano getting betrothed to Isabela to him being with Dolores had happened rather suddenly. Isabela had stayed fairly quiet throughout everything, so Pepa wanted to check on her. “Are you okay with this, querida?”
“Of course, tía,” Isabela answered instantly, her face slipping into a mask again. “They’re very happy together.”
Before, Pepa may have taken her answer at face value, but she knew better now. She could see a lot of herself in Isabela: the need to appear perfect, to cover up her negative feelings, make sure she was always in control. Except, Isabela had done a far better job than she’d managed to. It wasn’t until Casita fell apart that she even realized how much Isabela was keeping inside. Over the past year, she had gotten better about being open, but still struggled with expressing less pleasant emotions. She could recognize Isabela slipping back into old habits and wanted to prevent that. “I know, but I wasn’t asking about them. How are you, Isabela?”
“Honest, tía, I’m fine,” Isabela reassured her. “Dolores deserves to be with the man of her dreams.”
If Pepa wasn’t studying her so intently, she would have missed the twitch of her lips. “You deserve that too, Isa.” She reached out to squeeze her hand comfortingly.
“Thanks, tía.” Isabela gave her a grateful smile, but the corners of her lips were tugged too tightly. She opened her mouth to speak, then reconsidered and closed it. She toyed with the ribbon in her hands, crumpling it nervously.
“Are you sure you’re okay, Isa?” Pepa quirked an eyebrow. She could see that there was something bothering Isabela, and she didn’t want to push her, but she knew that Isabela needed a little push sometimes. Julieta was the same way.
Isabela worried her lip between her teeth. “Tía…”
“Yes, mi sol?”
“Never mind.” She let out a nervous laugh, acting uncharacteristically shy. She picked up a pair of scissors, using the edge of the blade to curl the ribbon into spirals.
Pepa gently took the scissors out of her hands and placed them on the table. “You know you can talk to me, mi vida,” she coaxed. “What is it?”
Isabela sighed, wringing her hands together and reminding Pepa of a much younger Julieta. “What you said about me deserving to be with the man of my dreams… what if it’s not a man?”
“Ah.” Pepa smiled at her understandingly. “What if it’s a woman you dream of, you mean?”
Isabela was taken aback. “Yes! I mean, no? I mean, I don’t know?” She sighed in frustration. “It’s…complicated?”
“Well we have time.” Pepa sat at the table, patting the seat beside her. “Come, sit. Tell your tía what’s going on.”
“It’s weird, tía. My whole life, I’ve had everything planned out for me. Someone else always told me how to dress, how to act, what to do with my gift…and even who to marry. And now, all of that’s gone. Sure, I didn’t love having to squeeze myself into a box for other people, but at least then I knew who I was supposed to be.” Isabela played with a scrap of crepe paper.
“The only person you are supposed to be is yourself, Isabela.” Pepa took Isabela’s hands in her own. “You don’t have to pretend to be someone you’re not for other people. All you have to do is be yourself.”
“Thanks, tía. But, what if…” She chewed on her lip nervously, tilting her eyes downward.
Pepa felt like she was looking in a mirror. “What if…” she prompted gently.
“What if I don’t know who that person is?”
“What?”
“What if I don’t know who ‘myself’ is?” Isabela blinked back tears.
“Isabela,-“
“Like I said, I’ve been told who I’m supposed to be my whole life. And…I hated it,” she admitted. “I hated having to be abuela’s perfect little granddaughter, and only make stupid roses all the time. I don’t even like roses!” She’d begun absentmindedly shredding some of the flowers she’d discarded earlier in the evening.
“That’s fine, but it’s not those poor flowers’ fault,” Pepa joked, gesturing to the mutilated flowers.
Her words startled Isabela out of her trance. She dropped the ripped-up flowers, scattering petals and stems in front of her. “Sorry, tía,” she apologized automatically, then her jaw set. “Actually, you know what? I’m not sorry. They’re my flowers. I can rip them up if I want to.” Soon, she had created a sizable pile of floral confetti.
While Isabela destroyed the flowers she had conjured up, Pepa merely watched. Poor Isabela had been so stifled her entire life. If she really wanted to rip up some flowers, then who was Pepa to stop her? “Well, we need confetti too.” She tossed some of the petals at Isabela’s face.
“You sound like tío Félix.” Isabela rolled her eyes. “Always looking on the bright side.”
“We have been married for half our lives,” Pepa pointed out, smiling dreamily. At first, Félix’s incessant optimism had grated on her, but it grew on her, just like he did.
“See, I want what you two have. You’re like, an epic love story. Like from one of your novelas.”
Pepa chuckled. “Well that’s certainly very kind, querida. But we’re far from perfect.”
Isabela shook her head. “I don’t want perfect. I’m sick of perfect. I want something real. I want…”
“Yes?”
“I’m…I’m not really sure what I want,” she confessed. “Or who, rather.” All I know is that it’s not Mariano. I never actually wanted to marry him, you know.” She paused, studying Pepa’s reaction.
Pepa nodded. She had an inkling that Isabela wasn’t really in love with Mariano, even as they went through the motions towards a betrothal and eventual wedding. And as good of a job as Dolores did to hide her feelings, a mother could always tell. Fortunately, everything had worked out, and her own daughter could be with someone she loved while Isabela wasn’t forced into a loveless marriage. Still, she wanted Isa to find someone who made her feel the way Mariano made Dolores feel. Man, woman…it didn’t matter. She just wanted her sobrina to be happy.
“So I wasn’t really all that upset about the engagement being called off,” Isabela continued, her words tumbling together, as if afraid she’d lose the nerve to speak if she slowed down. “It was a relief, especially after I realized abuela wasn’t ma- after, Mariano and Dolores got together,” she amended quickly, looking towards her tía for approval.
“You don’t have to give me right answers, Isa. I know you want your prima to be happy. But you deserve to be happy too. So, what is it that’ll make you happy?”
“I don’t know!” Isabela cried out, growling in frustration. “I don’t know what I want! I just know it’s not Mariano!”
“Good news is, he’s off the market.”
“Tía, no offense, but tío Félix’s bad jokes are rubbing off on you,” Isabela grumbled, but she didn’t really sound annoyed.
Pepa offered her a smile. Isabela was clearly unhappy, and she wanted to help her. “You don’t have to have all the answers right now. You have your whole life to figure things out.”
“I know, tía, but…it would be nice if I had some of the answers, at least,” Isabela huffed. “I went from having everything planned out to nothing at all. I like the freedom, but it’s scary. It’s too much to think about.”
Pepa hummed sympathetically. “So let’s start smaller. You’ve started branching out more with your plants.” At Isabela’s glare, she let out a nervous laugh. “Sorry, sorry, bad pun. But you’ve started making plants that aren’t just pretty to look at. You’ve been experimenting with different crops; really helped the farmers out there. And I think the whole encanto is grateful for your fly traps!” Little kids still had to be reminded to stay away from the carnivorous plants, but not having to swat pesky bugs away from themselves all day long was a godsend.
Isabela brightened. “I’m working on a version that only triggers for bugs. See, it’s pressure sensitive, and if anything heavier than an insect- say, a child’s hand- touches it, nothing happens.” The pride in her work was evident.
“See? That’s something you never would have considered before.” Pepa brushed a fallen strand of hair behind Isabela’s ear, pinning it behind an orchid. “You’ve grown so much. You just need to give yourself the freedom to keep growing. Just like your plants.”
“I guess…” Isabela rested her elbows on the table and put her head in her hands. “I want what you and tío Félix have, but I don’t even know where to start.”
“No?” Pepa arched an eyebrow. “No one special has caught your eye?”
“Okay, I guess there have been some cute guys…and maybe a couple girls?” Isabela blushed a deep red. “But I don’t know if what I feel is love, or infatuation, or just admiration… I’m just…confused.”
“It’s okay to take your time and figure out who you are.”
“Says the woman who found her husband when she was a teenager. I bet you knew what the real deal felt like right away,” Isabela pouted, crossing her arms.
Pepa smiled at her sadly. “I did,” she confirmed. Seeing Isabela like this reminded her so much of her own younger self: scared, worried, dealing with something others didn’t necessarily understand. There wasn’t anyone around who could help her through her own experiences, but maybe she could be that person for Isabela. “Let me tell you about the first time I fell in love.”
“You mean tío Félix wasn’t your first love?” Isabela frowned.
“No, no; this was a few years before we got together.” Pepa’s eyes sparkled as she began to reminisce. “I was twelve years old. I still remember the day we met. The teacher told us that a new student was joining our class.”
Isabela leaned towards her. “Ooh, what was his name?”
“Her name was Valentina,” Pepa corrected her. “She and her family had just moved to the encanto.”
“ ‘Her’? Tía, you…” Isabela trailed off in amazement, clearly not knowing how to finish that sentence.
Thankfully, she didn’t have to. “Yes, mi niña. My first love was a girl.” She reached out for Isabela’s hand.
“So you…”
“I understand you more than you know.” Her eyes shone warmly, radiating only love for her sobrina.
“Wow, tía…” Isabela swallowed. “I had no idea.”
Pepa shrugged. “It isn’t exactly something I shared with everyone. Just the people that I felt needed to know. And that group of people includes you, Isa, because I don’t want you to go through life feeling like you don’t have anyone. You are not alone, even though it may feel like it.”
“Thanks, tía.” Isabela hugged her.
Pepa hugged her back, running her hands over Isabela’s hair. “I know it’s hard to ask yourself questions that it seems like no one else around you is asking themselves. Believe me, I know.” She exhaled. “But you can take as long as you need to figure things out for yourself. And you can always come to me if you want to talk about anything. Boys, girls, whoever. I’m here for you.”
“I would definitely rather talk to you than mamá,” Isabela commented. “She’s…” She struggled to find the right words to describe her.
Pepa sighed. “Your mamá means well, but…she’s a healer. When you go to her with a problem, she wants to fix it, and that’s because she can’t stand to see anyone hurting. But sometimes you just need someone to listen.”
“Exactly!” Isabela exclaimed. “You get it.”
“She isn’t always the easiest person to talk to, but she just wants what’s best for you. That includes being happy with whomever you fall in love with,” Pepa emphasized pointedly. She needed Isabela to know that she was supported by her entire family.
“Even if it’s a girl?” Isabela asked skeptically.
“Even if it’s a girl,” Pepa confirmed. “As long as you truly love the person and are happy together, that’s all she wants.”
“Thanks, tía.” A bunch of hydrangeas popped up between them in a stunning array of colors. Isabela picked out a flower and started plucking its petals absentmindedly. “Speaking of girls…” she prompted, “what happened with Valentina?”
“Right, I never actually got to tell you the story.” Pepa laughed heartily. “Well, when she walked in, it felt like time stopped. She was the most breathtakingly beautiful girl I’d ever seen, and something just…drew me to her.” Her face glowed with happiness.
“Lo-ove,” Isabela sing-songed playfully.
“Yes, but not at first. At first, I just wanted to be close to her and be her best friend. Soon enough, I was. We spent all our free time together, talking and laughing and playing, and…something shifted.” She could feel herself blush at the memory, even though it had been decades.
“What happened?” Isabela asked eagerly.
“I felt a connection with her, but I was too afraid to call it what it was, because not everyone was understanding. Things were different in the encanto then. Besides, I didn’t want to risk scaring her away. One day, we’d snuck out to the woods and were talking the way we always were and then…”
“And then?”
“I’m not sure which one of us started it, or maybe it was both of us at the same time, but we kissed.” Pepa closed her eyes, remembering how it felt in those sun dappled woods, her heart thumping wildly, just her and the person she loved, getting to see her wish come true.
“That’s so cute!” Isabela squealed. “What was it like?”
“We were twelve, so I’m sure the actual kiss wasn’t that great. But to me, it felt like fireworks were going off around us. It was everything I had hoped it would be.” Pepa allowed herself a few more seconds’ indulgence before pulling herself out of the memory. “I knew right away that this was what love felt like.”
“What happened after that?”
Pepa shrugged. “We stayed friends, but stole kisses when we were alone and held hands when no one was looking. I never worked up the courage to tell her I loved her, but it didn’t matter. Her family ended up leaving the encanto shortly after that.”
“Oh…I’m sorry, tía.” Isabela frowned. “I was hoping that story would have a happier ending.”
“That story didn’t have a happy ending, but mine did. You see, there was this guy I was friends with that was loud and annoying, but he was also hilarious and charming and swept me right off my feet when we danced…”
Isabela giggled. “I know you’re talking about tío Félix, tía. You’ve told us this story a thousand times.” She rolled her eyes, feigning annoyance, but Pepa knew that Isabela was a sucker for a good love story, same as she was.
“You’ll find your person. And when you do, I will be so happy for you.” Pepa patted her hand affectionately. “We all will.”
“Thanks, tía.” Isabela took a deep breath. “I feel better now.”
“Good. Because-“ Pepa glanced at the half finished decorations scattered around the table “we still have a lot of work to do!”

After seeing a couple posts about people’s thoughts on when he’ll have an Oh! moment, I just wanted to share the scene that has me convinced that at the very least Pepa is aware whether or not he’s officially out to her/aware of it himself.
#my hc is he knows he’s bi and is out to Pepa and Abuela#but that’s just the vibe I get from this scene and his constant heart eyes#I also think he is aware of his feelings for Buck but doesn’t think Buck would return them#and for Buck I think he is pan and knows it#but I also think he’s in that grey area of not closeted but not out out#like a vibe of ‘I’m not going out of my way to hide it but also not going out of my way to mention it’#and that’s purely based on also growing up in a family where appearances mattered more than emotional support

Hey i love your writing, and i have a request<3
Camilo x fem!reader, where his girlfriend comes out to him as bi. She's super nervous and all but it's all cute and fluffy <3
Of course, anon! (this was probably my favourite fic to write so far)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
~The Way You Are~
Camilo Madrigal x fem!reader
Summary: (Y/N) is bisexual, but she still hasn't come out to her boyfriend, Camilo. Except, she doesn't expect him to be as educated as he is.
Warnings: Bestie if you think homosexuality is a bad thing then ig but it really isn't. get over it pls, let people love who they wanna love and move on with your life <3
A/N: HELL YEAH LGBTQ+ (Y/N) LET'S GO. Also we stan both Camilo and mama Pepa for being allies <3<3<3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Y/N) had a little secret. She had finally come to terms with her sexuality, realising that she was bisexual, but she hadn't told anybody in the entire Encanto.
'Why?' you may ask, but it was the same question (Y/N) asked herself every day. Reason being, she was rather… nervous for lack of better term.
She didn't know how people would react, what people would think, she was all-in-all a bit scared.
But, as she stood outside of her boyfriend Camilo's bedroom door, she only had one thought rushing around her head.
'Now or never, I suppose.'
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Y/N) knocked three times quickly, before knocking again but slower, and knocking two times fast again. It was her and Camilo's secret knock, just so they knew it was each other.
"Come in!" She could've heard his voice a mile away with how loud he was. It was then that she began to pity Dolores, how could his sister even live with him? (Y/N) entered the room slowly, quietly shutting the door behind her.
She spotted her boyfriend right away, an unfinished game of cards on his desk, Camilo himself sprawled out on his bed.
"Camilo, I need to tell you something."
At the sound of these rather ominous words, Camilo sat up, his eyebrows furrowing together and his eyes squinting as if he was trying to read his girlfriend's mind.
"Go on, mi vida." He sounded out the words carefully, not wishing to cause any offence.
"I've been bottling this up inside of me for a long time." "Okaaaay?"
"There's something you need to know, something that might affect our relationship and therefore I'm pretty scared to tell you."
"Holy crap, (Y/N), are you pregnant?"
"No! No, I'm not, I'm.."
"You're?"
She didn't exactly know how to phrase it, her eyes flooding with tears and face heating up in nervousness.
"Camilo, I'm bisexual."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The silence in the room made her want to cry. Dios, she knew he wouldn't accept her. Where would she go? She would have to get out of the town before-
"I'm proud of you."
(Y/N)'s anxious thoughts came to a halt at her boyfriend's velvety voice.
"What?"
"I'm proud of you for coming out to me, thank you, mi amor."
"But- do you even know what it means?"
She didn't mean to sound rude, she was just genuinely shocked.
"Of course I do! I think it's good for people to have general knowledge on things like this. Mi mami gave me some books about topics like homosexuality, said I should always be kind to people."
"So- this isn't gonna weird you out at all? Knowing that your girlfriend likes girls and guys?"
Camilo jumped off his bed and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into a gentle hug.
"Mi corazón, I love you just the way you are."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
this is rlly short but I love it. also, if this means anything to anyone, I am pansexual (and proud) so I really enjoyed writing about this :)
ALSO IF YOU ENJOYED THIS, PART TWO IS HERE

Encanto sexuality headcanons (from youngest to oldest)
prefacing this by saying: THIS MOVIE IS NOT ABOUT QUEER CULTURE. Not everybody is gay. Don't reduce it to that.
sorry if you wanted everyone to be fruity a lot of the people are just very ✨straight✨
.
.
.
Antonio- too young to know for sure but he has a crush on a girl in school. If you ask him about it he's an ally and he'll say "boys are cool but I don't think they're for me"
Mirabel: Bisexual, She/They, might be monoflexible. (And no not because of the design on her dress The colors have a cultural and storytelling purpose to them and reducing them to "oh pretty bisexual flag colors" seems disrespectful)
Camilo: genderfluid, Bisexual, he/they pronouns most days but also use a she/her pronouns, polyamorous.
Luisa: unlabeled. she/her very monogamous.
Dolores: "Straight??" she/her monogamous
'I don't think I would date a girl but I think they're very pretty'
Isabela: unlabeled as long as she gets to know and choose her partner for herself. she/her Maybe monoflexible depends.
Agustin: straight cis man. but an Ally so...
Bruno: Gay. he/him. monogamous??
Pepa: straight she/her monogamous
Julieta: Straight cis women
Félix: bi (I don't know He just feels like it) he/him monogamous
Alma: straight. But in the way that homophobic moms are straight when their daughters come out "All women think about women that way at least once. You're not supposed to act on it"
Pedro: dead...lol.

general madrigal family neurodiversity/lgbt headcanons based on observation
disclaimer: im not throwing labels around all over the place. the majority of these characters in my eyes are pretty much straight and neurotypical, because a lot of the reasons people headcanon them with other things are for reasons that have more of a reflection and people are instead misinterpreting it for something else. im taking note of everything that makes me think “is this a mental illness/gay/gender thing or is this a cultural thing?”
- abuela obviously has ptsd. she was forced out of her home and watched her husband die in front of her while holding three infants that she had to raise alone. other than that i dont see anything else. i believe that she is straight and there is no way for her to be anything other than cis.
- pepa is a little neurodivergent, but im not sure in which way. her emotions are /extremely/ erratic, especially for a person who focuses a lot of her energy on leveling it. she is cis, as proven in the flashbacks to the triplets receiving their doors. i headcanon her as straight but i wont argue with people who claim she is bi.
- bruno is the most obviously mentally ill character. even before the wall decade, his description reflects a lot of traits that carried over to his time in the walls. so its safe to assume not much changed about hi,, he just got a lot more depressed. that being said, the most obvious one is definitely ocd. while his rituals are definitely a reflection of his culture, the amount in which he does them and the rhythmic and repeated way that he acts them out doesnt seem very normal. they seem like compulsive rituals that have gone from a way to ward off bad luck to something he needs to do to prevent the crippling anxiety of something enormously bad happening. he also very much shows quite a bit of symptoms for anxiety and depression, especially in the ways he copes with his situation. lastly, he is most definitely on the spectrum. he has a bit of a hard time with people skills, coming off as creepy or weird or a bad luck charm. in reality he just doesn’t really understand social skills and is very literal with his actions and words. he has a hard time putting himself in others shoes, he sees the world through his eyes only even though he does understand why people see him the way they see him. he just doesnt know how to confront it. also the way his sentences are strung together???? this man is AUTISTIC. i headcanon him as either a gay man or ace aro. i won’t argue with people who see him as bi or straight but i have to say. i cannot even fathom that man being attracted to a woman. i dont know what it is about him but like i cant see him being attracted to anything other than another man, if he can even feel that type of attraction at all. again could totally see him as just. none of it. no attraction thanks. he is cis, as proven with flashbacks to when he received his door.
- julieta is neurotypical, cis, and straight from my observations. and no this does not make her less lovable tumblr just has a habit of being biased to neurodivergent and lgbt characters. we love u for who u are mama julieta.
- félix and agustín cis, they literally have biological children, and i didnt get enough information on them to deduce much for their neurodiversity. i don’t really have a sexuality headcanon for either of them, i just know they love their wives more than life itself. what good lads. we love félix and agustín madrigal.
- isabela is neurotypical, cis, and straight. maybe bi. she is not a lesbian because the reasoning for that that everyone is giving is that she didnt wanna marry mariano. SHE DIDNT WANNA MARRY HIM BECAUSE IT WAS AN ARRANGED FUCKING MARRIAGE NOT BECAUSE SHE WAS GAY. headcanon whatever you want but PLEASE dont erase that part of her character as it is a very important part of her culture.
- luisa is not trans. luisa is not trans. LUISA IS NOT TRANS. all these latina women and you headcanon the one that looks the least feminine as trans. come on. you dont need an expert to see the kind of cultural erasure that is ensuing. i dont have a sexuality headcanon for her either i dont care. she is possibly autistic. you can see it in her communication skills ESPECIALLY and her emotional fluctuations. however it could just be a sign of sensitivity.
-mirabel is cis. i dunno man i just dont think shes anything else. she probably has adhd, seen especially in the certain breed of “thinking out loud” that she has. i don’t really have a sexuality headcanon for her either. i do like the idea of her being bi!
- dolores is cis and straight. however i think her gift causes some mental issues for her. i dont know WHAT she has but her brain is a little funky due to the amount of overstimulation she has experienced for the past 17 years. she moves in a very robotic way almost. she’s got somethin.
- camilo is neurotypical but definitely has gender issues. hes the only one i headcanon with gender issues. and its not just because his character design is a 15 year old pretty boy that looks like hes wearing makeup. his gift has probably given him the biggest identity crisis of not knowing who he is. hes been constantly told to be other people to be useful that he probably doesnt think the real camilo has much significance, so this creates a lot of identity issues. he is definitely bi. look at him.
- antonio is five years old. (i do not see anything neurodivergent about him though)
anyways! heres my fun little thoughts do with this as you please

New ficlet with fem!Bruno x Reader because I wanted to do it! So I did it! I just hope it's good but it seems it is.
No warning, fluff, some themes about gender. No use of Y/N. Female reader. Reader is Bi.
1135 words
OK Bruno is a woman now
Synopsis: While going to Casita you discover that Bruno changed into a woman.
One morning, you ran up the hill to Casita. Since you liked plants, you have promised Isabela to come check her new room full of colourful species. You were going to take some photos and observe them closely, but you have woken up a bit late, making you now have to hurry to meet with your friend.
You also didn’t want to miss her Tío Bruno, who you had a crush on. Actually, you were the one that suggested reuniting this late so you could have a peak of him without raising suspicion, even though you wondered sometimes if the Madrigals weren’t actually aware of your feelings for the 50-years old man. Besides Bruno of course.
You were now before Casita’s door, about to knock on it, when you heard some noise on the other side. It was like someone was shouting. Worrying that some rift would have appeared in the family again, you decided to open the door, yelling:
“Please don’t... Argue...”
You were saying the last word with hesitation, shocked by the sight before you. Mirabel was on the side of a woman in a green ruana, her salt and pepper curls falling onto her shoulders while her hazel eyes were looking nervously on the ground. One of her hands was on his arm, as if she was anxious. Before them stood Alma, looking worried, and Pepa that looked rather furious. They were circled by the entire family, some with worrying looks and some laughing.
You were greeted by Isabela, that looked like she was in the second category. Apparently, something funny happened. You returned the greeting before asking what was happening. But most importantly...
“Where is Bruno? I don’t see him.”
You feared you would have missed his appearance at the breakfast meal. Or maybe he was still asleep, his visions exhausting him a lot. However, that question lead to an unexpected reaction: more laughs from some Madrigals, and more anger from Pepa. The latter pointed to the strange woman, to explain:
“He’s here! At least that’s what she claims.”
“But it’s true, I’m Bruno...” Pleaded the woman with a desperate tone. “I just don’t know why but I’ve woken up in this state.”
What? She was Bruno? Really? No way! While your first reaction was to deny it, Bruno being a man, while keeping staring at her your certainty started to falter. She looked like him though... And was standing the same raptor way... And had the same nervous look... The more you looked at her, more you were convinced she really was Bruno. They were way too much alike not to be the same person. Besides the tiny detail about the gender. You said, getting closer to her with fascination:
“I think.... She actually is Bruno...”
Hearing that, Camilo joked, making you get flustered:
“Heard that? Love talked! Bruno became a girl!”
Following that claim, it became way more noisy inside Casita and Isabela led you and Bruno into her room until it calmed down. Then, she told you in the ear, it could give you a chance to seduce him.
You then found yourself sitting on the floor, among the plants in Isabela’s room, with Bruno changed into a woman who was sighing while browsing the plants. You stayed mute, not sure of what to say. The man you loved changed into a woman. Actually, you were pretty comfortable with it, but was he? You asked him.
“Bruno, what do you feel?”
“‘Bout what?”
“About turning into a woman.”
You locked eyes with him, looking for a way to signify he was safe with you. Not that you were trying to seduce him, you just hoped he would open up and feel better saying his worries out loud. After some minutes, he looked away, looking embarrassed, while revealing:
“Honestly I don’t really care. Before I was a man and I was trying to cope with that. Now I’m a woman and it’s still the same than before. I’m just Bruno, I don’t feel that different internally.”
He hesitated, then blushed while confessing:
“The only thing that worries me is what you think of me.”
“Me?” You replied, surprised.
He nodded. It took minutes to understand what he meant. And a stuttering from Bruno trying to correct in panic, blushing even more:
“N... Not that I was hoping for anything... I mean... I was... Well I wasn’t... I mean... You’re so pretty... Well I’m old anyway so.... But I mean....I...”
Understanding where he was coming to, you felt the turmoil in your heart rising and you felt your face get warmer at the idea that he could actually love you. You were hoping it wasn’t a dream while explaining:
“Oh hum... Actually I’m bisexual... So I don’t really care if you’re a man or a woman and... Well, you’re not bad...”
She even actually was hot! You felt your heart beat faster while glancing at her, recognizing he person you were in love with in that woman. You could easily imagine marry her as it was also the case yesterday when she was a man.
Understanding what you meant, Bruno started again to stutter before giving in and simply keeping watching the ground with nervosity. You both did, staying that way until Bruno tried, with shyness in his voice:
“So... Do you wanna go out with me?”
“Yes.”
“Nice.”
Then, it was settled.
When you both got down later to check on the situation, your found Pepa sitting in the kitchen besides Félix, Julieta, Mirabel and Alma, that were trying to comfort her. Seeing Bruno, she got up and throw herself onto her, then scooped her up, saying:
“I’m so sorry Bruno! I’m sorry I reacted so aggressively I just... I was wondering why nobody seemed bothered by your sex change. I thought we had to say something I just...”
“Eh! Pepa, it’s okay.” Bruno tried to reassure her. “I’m fine, everything is fine, I don’t really care about being a man or a woman but I’m not mad at you for being bothered by it.”
“No, I shouldn’t have reacted that way!”
Then, Pepa cupped Bruno’s cheeks with her hands, a determined look in her eyes while she was claiming:
“You’re still you, with no regard to your appearance. And if you don’t mind that sex change so I don’t mind because I love you and want you to feel comfortable in your skin.”
You shared a look with Bruno, happy for her, before she hugged Pepa, thanking her for being supportive. While you were glad to see him reconcile with his family, you browsed the other people in the kitchen to see that your feeling was shared.
Everything will be fine, with no regard to if Bruno will stay a woman or turn back into a man.

buddie + coming out
Jess this got...so fucking long. I'm putting it under a cut. (send me a ship and a word and I'll give you a head canon)
Okay, so Buck first. I imagine that Buck first realized he wasn’t straight when he was in high school. He didn’t mention it to his parents because it’s not like they were that interested in who he was dating anyway. But he did come out to Maddie back then. They were driving around her jeep (coming out in cars is Real okay) and there was some cheesy pop music on the radio (it was the early 2000s) and he didn’t have the word “bisexual” just yet, but she asked if he was dating anyone/if he had a crush on someone and he said “uh...yeah. His name’s Jamie.” and she just took it in stride. Just kind of “oh, okay.” and then he added quickly “I still like girls, too, though” and since she was already through college at this point, so she knew sexuality wasn’t just gay and straight, so she didn’t even blink. “So, tell me about him” and he did. When he was done, she grinned, told him she wanted to meet Jamie some time, and turned up the radio. They drove around some more singing along to whatever cheesy pop song played next.
As far as Buck coming out as an adult, at some point in his late teens or early twenties he found the word bisexual. He never really tried to hide it, but he also never went out of his way to broadcast it. He never felt ashamed of his sexuality, per se, but he never felt proud of it either. It was just like...sometimes he dated guys, y’know? Anyways so flash forward to when he joins the 118. He doesn’t make a big deal out of it, but at some point early on Hen describes him as “a straight white boy” and he’s like “bold of you to assume I’m straight” “you’re not?” “not even a little” and leaves it at that. Sometimes he mentions hookups with guys during his 1.0 phase, but other than that he doesn’t really talk about it. He comes out to Eddie sometime in season 3, when he’s bemoaning his loneliness and Eddie says “you’ll find the right girl someday” and Buck suddenly realizes he’s never actually told Eddie he’s into guys so he responds. “Right person, actually.” and Eddie blinks twice. “What?” and Buck sighs. “I’ll find the right person, I’m bisexual.” and Eddie blinks again. “Oh...Cool…” and then they just move on.
Which brings us to Eddie. Eddie does not come to the realization that he’s queer until much later in life. He worries he might be gay in high school, because everyone else is interested in dating and girls, and he’s just. Not. Everyone always tells him that he and his good friend Shannon would make a good couple, and he’s pretty sure she has a crush on him, but he just likes her as a friend. Until one day, the summer after they graduate from high school, he looks at her and his heart starts racing and his palms are sweating but it’s not from the Texas humidity and oh my god. Is this what liking someone feels like? This is terrible, actually. But he was right about Shannon having a crush on him, so they start dating, and it’s great. And Eddie is relieved because falling in love with Shannon means he’s straight. He was just a late bloomer, like his mom said.
Anyways, so flash forward about twelve years and Eddie is starting to think he was wrong before. Oh, God, he was so wrong. He’s not sure when Buck went from his best friend to someone he was falling in love with, but it’s too late to go back now. But it’s fine. It’s fine. Buck is straight anyway, so it’s not even worth getting worked up over because it’s never going to happen and--Buck isn’t straight. Oh, hell.
And then he meets Ana, and she’s, well. She’s pretty, and he likes that she guesses his name right, but then he blows up at her and also she’s his son’s teacher, so that’s kind of weird. And then the pandemic hits, and he’s forced into close quarters with Buck and it gets impossible to deny his feelings to himself any longer. But he doesn’t know what to do about it. The problem for Eddie is that he’s only really had strong feelings for two people ever in his life, and the word ‘bisexual’ doesn’t to fit. More like ‘these two people in particular-sexual’ but that doesn’t really make sense.
So, when Ana comes back into his life, it seems like the easy way out. Nobody has to know that he has all these weird, confusing, not-heterosexual feelings. He’s 33 years old, who has a sexuality crisis at 33? Of course, the universe has other plans. He gets shot, he almost dies, and he realizes he doesn’t really feel anything for Ana and he probably never will, and predictably by the time he’s finally ready to confront his feelings and sexuality, Buck is dating Taylor. Great.
Anyways, so Eddie goes to Hen for help figuring himself out because if anyone would be able to help, his married lesbian friend seems like a very good bet. And he’s right. He explains how he’s only ever been in love with two people and that gender doesn’t seem to be a big factor in it, and she points him to the concept of asexuality and aromanticism, and more specifically demisexuality/demiromanticism and it just clicks for him. He wasn’t a “late bloomer” after all. So, I guess Hen is the first person Eddie comes out to. And he doesn’t really feel the need to come out to anyone else at that point because it’s not really anyone’s business.
Eventually, he and Buck get together. And for Buck, telling people isn’t a big deal because he’s been out as bi for years. Eddie isn’t reluctant to tell their found family, or even the rest of the 118. But he is nervous to tell his biological family. He doubts they’ll be too happy about him being with a man, let alone understand the concept of demisexuality. He starts with Abuela and Pepa, the family he’s closer to (literally and figuratively). He comes out to both of them at the same time, at Abuela’s, over a home cooked meal. He tells them that he and Buck are dating, that he loves him. Pepa puts a hand over his and gives it a gentle squeeze. “I’m proud of you,” she says. “It was about time you put that boy out of his misery.”
Eddie chokes on a surprised laugh. Then he looks at Abuela. Abuela is quiet for a minute before standing and walking around the table to where Eddie is sitting. She pulls him up to standing and gives him a tight hug. “Te quiero.”
Next he comes out to his sisters, who are pretty chill about the whole thing, and lastly his parents. His parents liked Buck when they met briefly, so if Eddie was going to be with a man, at least he picked a good one. And given that the rest of the family already knows and is supportive, it’s not like anyone would be on their side if they had a problem with it, and they want to keep seeing their grandson. So they just say “okay” and accept it in the most passive way possible.
Anyways this got SUPER DUPER long and detailed, so I’m going to end it with this: After they’ve been out (both Eddie coming out and Buck and Eddie being out as a couple) for awhile, Hen drags them to that year’s LA Pride with her, Karen, and the kids, and they end up meeting up with Michael, David, Harry and May there (and Bobby who is wearing a t-shirt that says “Free Dad Hugs” in rainbow letters, Buck takes him up on the offer immediately).
#buddie#bi Buck#demi Eddie#you can pry my demisexual/demiromantic eddie headcanons out of my cold dead hands!!!!!!!!#coming out hcs#1331 words later lmao
