Continuing my playthrough of Sacred Echoes, the other day Lukas singlehandedly saved Alm’s team from the 30000 horseback-knights in that one level. Thank you Lukas.
I am simple and easy; I see a character in red armor, I’ll probably like them. But I also appreciate Lukas all by himself. He’s calm and steady. Very pleasant.

going through some old left-for-dead projects and just found this one where I was like. INTENT on dissecting jeff's brain on the operating table (i.e. google docs) but only from todd's weird skewed pov
[professor voice] it's about brothers as eternal combatants and it's about being so convinced of your own goodness you excuse your shitty actions. it's also about comparing yourself to a dog because you feel less fully formed than your brother. lol.
#“so-and-so is an irredeemable character with no depth” jokes are funny sure but unfortunately i'm unable to not take things seriously#anyway: i remember people being like [about hymnal] this is crazy! this fraternal dynamic is so fucked up! and being kind of non-plussed#because the dynamic i wrote into the fair folk wip [this one] was like fifty thousand times more. argh. bites#THIS WASN'T EVEN SCRATCHING THE SURFACE#also i've always been an advocate of writing cruel characters with sympathy because the best feeling as a reader is when#you're reading and start nodding along with a particular guy and have to take a step back and recoil at how receptive you were to them#when the character is kind and jolly and cares but he's still letting the abuse happen under his nose :eyes:#anyway this ALSO isn't an accurate jeff portrait because todd's pov is weird and jaded and sardonic at the beginning of the story#and also he's like three seconds away from exploding. lol#hm. i never explained it to myself fully [probably why i never finished this] but i think the issue was that#todd is Too understanding and he's perceptive enough to see everyone's motivations but that makes it worse because now he's too#not forgiving. but he can excuse people's actions very easily#and thus when people actually do shitty things and it makes him mad he can't really justify being mad to himself - but he still is#and this makes him sooooo volatile. and becomes a problem later on in the wip when he's trying to work on cameron#because understanding isn't the ending point you have to do the action sometimes! lol!#goddamn. i miss writing this au.#dead poets society#tristan writes#dps#dps fic#todd anderson#jeff anderson#SORRY THIS IS VERY LONG. I really like doing portraits like this... if they didn't take so long I'd do them way more
#seriously each of these took like 5 hours LOL#it was really hard to get them to match too#cause steve is so like. rough. and has a lot more textures going on in his skin and beard and stuff?#so it's really easy to trick the brain into being like “woag thats detailed and feels real”#versus adam is extremely smooth and well kept#so it's a loooot harder to get them to feel like...#on the same level#while still being in the same style#so it took at least an hour of futzing#maybe 2 LOL#to get them to feel on the same level of detail and in the same style!!!#ok enjoy#portrait#illustration#digital art#my art#adam#time and time again#ttawebcomic#also I will DEFINITELY be uploading their two portraits side by side like... at some point#so#idk dont 'be on the lookout' for that#but I think it makes like a stronger post so definitely expect to see these a few times#I mean it took me like 10+ hours to draw them YOURE SEEIN EM OKAY

This is NOT fair or reasonable or anytging more than the most minor of minor gripes. BUT!!!! i see people mimicking disco elysium portrait styles and they all feel so clear.... i get that in your art you want it to make sense and be easy to see the character AND i get that you cant always have a specific persons pov in mind for whos 'viewing' the portrait. But! I feel like people sometimes put some shapes and colors behind the head and call it a day? But i feel like a lot of the look of the portraits is determined by how harry percieves the character! Everyone knows theres a halo behind kims head, but what about how less narratively important characters arent as clear sometimes? How idiot doom spirals face is smudged and broken? How we never see the coalition airship aecher so the microphone hides their face and its more like metaphorical?? Guys get silly! How would the character be percieved??? Your art is lovely but come ON it woukd be so awesome... especially if you considered the pov.......... pleas.........
#Again this is such a nothingburger thing to care about#BUT!!!!! i think it would be more interestinf!#also what spawned this is a saw someone make mouthwashong de portraits#just anya and curly. and it was such beautiful stunning art and i havw no doubt there was a lot of intention put behind it#BUT!!!! i really felt like curlys especially was way way way too clear. it looked beautiful#i cant find a way to make this seem fair im so sorry the art was so good so wonderful and theyre immensly skilled#but i would do it differently#AND also this is now just me going 'well if IIIII did it...' but whatevs#if i thought it was meant to be like jimmys pov i would have done both curlys but especially anyas differently#maybe have anya obscured or turned away or smaller. make the background red and pink woth hints of yellow#like a womb like a mother like infection in skin etc#and i would have curly with the background stained red like his sheets and mouth hanging open#background hard to distinguish from the foreground and almost blinding in its redness#though from another characters pov i would have made it pre-accident curly with the left side of his face obscured#either red or white shading there hiding it and his right eye clearer and looking towards the viewer#idk. again the art was good but i want more weird de portraits PLEAAAAS
