The Paris Special irony
I'm gonna be real here people, the Paris Special was flooded with irony.
We basically got to see tons of stuff we wanted to see forever in it alone, many of which are also quite ironic themselves.
Akumatized Ladybug? Check. Well kamikotized or something similar. The purple Hatsune Miku look slayed.
Akumatized Chat Noir that actually sticks and isn't erased from a timeline? Check. Funny how he's still all white like Chat Blanc but also has white angel wings despite wielding the power of destruction, makes me think of Lucifer.
Evil Ladybug and Chat Noir? Check. Shadybug and Claw Noir are the new cool kids. And dang I want to have an entire series/spinoff of just them, heck I want an origin story of their first outting as villains and how they got their miraculouses cause I need answers on how that happened thank you very much.
Good Hawk Moth? Check. Still lousy parent I guess, unless Emodrien actually makes it difficult for him, like he lashes out and refuse to spend anytime with his dad and Gabriel just tries to respect his privacy and boundaries and thinks he might just need some time to grieve maybe, we only have Emodrien's side of the story, but it's probably more complicated than that, I mean if Emodrien is angry that his father seems to have moved on from his mother he might takes it as a personal betrayal and acts out in some misplaced retribution, but I have a feeling he doesn't bother explaining himself to his father like he does with Adrien, though there might still be hope for them now.
Ladybug using the Butterfly Miraculous? Check. Lady Fly is a stupid name cause it sounds she has the Fly miraculous instead of the Butterfly, but at least her outfit is ok.
Seeing the Butterfly miraculous being used to create heroes instead of villains? Check. Ubiquity my beloved.
Goth/emo/punk Marinette and Adrien? Check. And I love them for it.
Reverse love square? Mostly check with Emodrien having a crush on Emonette who has no idea that he knows she exists until the special.
Alternate Universes? Check. I wanna see more of that Mister Bug and Lady Noire universe and that Scarabella and Kitty Noire Universe, I lowkey wished to see an Aspik and Multimouse universe but oh well, at least this probably means that all the heroes and villains probably gets to wield all the different miraculouses across universes.
Emodrien was slowly dying and Good!Gabriel wasn't even aware of it, probably Emodrien didn't bother telling him and just covered it up with his makeup. Check.
Emonette actually knows Emodrien by name and sight unlike Marinette in Origins despite him never going to her school. I really found that funny.
Emonette and Emodrien having better fashion sense than the main heroes, check. Until they switched to become good guys. Still pulled a bit more effort.
Everyone else in the other universe have different designs, check. And thank god for it, they all look better than the ones we've seen in the show.
Nooroo actually being happy and treated well? Check, judging by the Gabriel opening.
PV universe actually existing and not just being a movie, check.
Identity reveal that actually sticks, check. For Shadybug and Claw Noir sure but at least it will be a lot less frustrating for them than their counterparts, thank god they'll have a break on that.
Seriously the special delivered so many nice ideas and concepts and also there was tons of stuff we wanted to see forever and we got our wishes and it's also ironic in some ways but like hell I'm gonna complain when we were all so well served.
Not gonna lie but it almost gives me hope for season 6. Almost.
Now I'm just gonna watch the show in the hopes of ever seeing the heroes Shadybug and Claw Noir again (yes I know they changed their names and I don't care it's less confusing to keep calling them their original names rather than their new names, like Shadybug, we all know you wanted to be more like Ladybug, but you didn't need to take her name when you almost copied her looks, which was also a downgrade for you sweetie).

A Review of Détermination
Tumblr media
The episode romance-centred, obviously. And Luka and Kagami are finally re-appearing, as allies. It’s funny how Marinette is looking up at Chat Noir being all suave and cool while Adrien is peering down at Marinette making a fool of herself. Visual storytelling.
Tumblr media
Marinette rides the moped to school. To send Kagami to fencing class at least. And her hair is down.
Tumblr media
Whoa.
Tumblr media
"You’re going to ask Marinette out." "Why?" "You obviously have feelings for her." Kagami’s bluntness is so refreshing. Save the plot a lot of time.
Kitty Section is making an interesting decision trusting Bob Roth again
Tumblr media
Luka is so supportive.
So Adrien knows his feelings has changed, but he isn’t immediately jumping onto the 'I’m in love' boat. It’s quite considerate and wise to want to figure things out instead of immediately pushing the romantic angle. Because on the off-chance that Adrien isn’t romantically infatuated, he could’ve strung Marinette along and ended up badly hurting her.
Tumblr media
Kagami has an Alliance watch.
Tumblr media
"Remember when you mistook me for a statue, Marinette?" What an embarrassing memory to bring up.
Did Kagami and Luka strike up a friendship behind-the-scenes? Because the smooth way they walked off together and started a conversation without small talk speaks of a very easy relationship.
Luka makes an astute observation. As someone who’s always used to being adored and adoring in return, Adrien can’t decipher the truth of his feelings. Are they truly out-of-the-ordinary, or just enhanced for one particular person?
Chloé wants Mayor Bourgeois to take down the heroes and villain exhibit hall because she’s offended by the implications.
Tumblr media
Pulling an Alya and Nino in New York. Just lock them in, why don't you?
Superhero-themed villains has been quite popular this season. That and ordinary citizens wanting to be heroes, like Socqueline dressing up as ladybug and Nino erecting a resistance. I’m starting to spy a motif.
I just realised Manipula is the first original Akumatised victim in this season, and she looks really good as well. That appearance could pass a camp on a gala red carpet.
Tumblr media
Very Sailor Moon-esque, this scenario.
Tumblr media
When did Alix get a statue??
The whole gang’s here.
Those are still wax statue, they don’t have the power of the Miraculous, do they?
Tumblr media
The humour of Chloé sitting in André’s seat while he’s consulting her like she’s the mayor. Chloé is in unbreakable charge of everything in his life.
So the wax statues can use Miraculous powers? The power scale is broken.
Tumblr media
I made a post sometime ago about how Tigresse Pourpre and Pigella are parallels of Ladybug and Chat Noir. Tigresse Pourpre: also a cat, dark-coloured, armed with a power of incredible destructive force. Pigella: pink-themed, dance-themed, armed with the power to create something. So the two of them being destroyed by their Ladybug and Chat Noir is like watching nature takes its course.
Tumblr media
Kagami’s fringe is dishevelled?
I don’t think I’ve ever see her without hair covering her forehead.
She looks good. She should have a formal appearance, or alternate casual appearance, with her fringe brushed away.
Tumblr media
"You’re in great shape these days, kitty-cat." "We can’t afford to make anymore mistakes."
Oh, how the turntables.
Ladybug is beginning to have inklings of feelings for Chat Noir.
Tumblr media
Faux-Ladybug’s giant sword isn’t purely red-and-black-spots anymore. There’s a silver blade edge. Good design call, it looks much more deadly. The black on the tip of the quills (?) resemble poisonous daggers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m surprised that these signposts in the back actually has readable words on them.
Tumblr media
Ooh, I finally get her outfit. I thought she was an ice-cream cone – she’s supposed to be a candelabra. You know, wax figurine.
Tumblr media
You know Chat Noir’s not going to be here to stop you from spiralling into despair at every other comment, right?
Neither the Bee Miraculous’ Venin or the Ox Miraculous’ Résistance should be stronger than Chat Noir’s Cataclysm. That's not how the power balance should work.
Tumblr media
Nice to see that Chat Noir is actually fighting back for once, instead of letting whatever happens to him happen.
Tumblr media
She’s dead.
Tumblr media
Ladybug actually managed to communicate her feelings to Chat Noir pretty well. Pity that he misinterpreted.
Tumblr media
"Yes. I think I’m in love." Whoa, finally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The clownery never ends. Finally when mutuality is established, it’s in the wrong direction.
This is a very clean and beautiful scene. The brightness of the Musée Grevin poster, the grey skies and the rain. The animation of Marinette’s tears and the vividness of her emotions.
This episode basically establishes that the emotions are going in the opposite direction now. At this point, it seems that Adrien and Marinette will keep chasing each other in a circle, 'round and 'round.

Drastic Measures- Part 1
@daminette-december2019-2020
~Inspiration~
*Emerges from my hole*: oh ho ho~ we have another month of inspiration on our hands!
Next
-------------------
Marinette steps through the portal immediately collapsing; she doesn't drop the transformation until she hears Chat drop down next to her. She calls the transformation of both the Horse and Ladybug miraculous, knowing Chat will close his eyes without her asking, Marinette does the same for him as he calls off his own.
They stay like that, panting on the rooftop. It’ll be sunrise soon, Marinette knows what she has to do.
“He’s moved,” She breaks the silence. Stating the obvious, they’ve known this for months.
“At least he wont be bothering Paris anymore,” Chat laughs, without any humor.
“But Gotham is so much worse,” Marinette groans, “We can’t keep doing this, not like we are, Spots on,”
Marinette stands letting the transformation wash over her while keeping her eyes shut, this will be easier to say without looking at him anyway.
“Chat Noir, hand over your miraculous,” Marinette recoils at the wounded sound he makes, “I have to leave Paris,”
“What? No! Claws out!” Marinette opens her eyes to see Chat, furious and with tears in his eyes, “I’m coming with you!”
She thought he would say that. Probably would have hurt if he didn’t.
“I can’t just ask you to leave your life, your friends,” Marinette chokes up, “Your family,”
“And what about you?!” Chat says with such heartbreaking sincerity, “Who will you be leaving behind!?”
“... Everyone,”
But she had put it off for too long. Hawkmoth slowed his attacks in Paris months ago, they thought he was giving up… then he attacked Gotham. The attacks in Paris stopped. The ones in Gotham were so much worse. She thought… she thought she could keep it up, jumping through a portal every time Gotham needed her. It was the best of both worlds. Her family and friends were safe and she could still defeat Hawkmoth. But nothing was ever that easy. Gotham needed her, completely, with undivided attention. Paris didn’t. Gotham needed Ladybug more than Paris needed Marinette.
“Not me,” Chat breaks Marinette from her thoughts, gently holding her shoulders, “I’m coming with you,”
She should argue. She planned to argue, every detail ever rebuttal. But she was weak. Marinette so desperately wanted him to come. To have someone, anyone there for her. No not anyone she wanted Chat by her side. Her partner through thick and thin. The one who would help her take down Hawkmoth. It was so unbelievably selfish.
She wanted him with her more than she wanted him to live his life here.
“Chat you realize we can’t tell anyone,” They could make the connection, they would try to stop them, or worse, follow them. If they went to Gotham alone at least they wouldn't have a life outside of this, they could focus wholly on taking down Hawkmoth, and maybe finally succeed, “... we have to run away,”
“Bug a boo that's the fun part,” Chat teases, Marinette couldn't see how leaving her friends and family would be at all fun, “... sorry… I know you’re leaving a lot behind,”
“If you do this-”
“When I do this,” Marinette raises a brow at him, he does it right back.
“We should reveal our identities,”
“Oh no, what a shame,” Chat dramatically ‘faints’, “Damn that makes this so much harder,”
“You know what?” Marinette ‘thoughtfully’ taps her chin, “I can probably find a new Chat Noir,”
“No, no! Sorry,” Chat immediately stands back up, “That’s obviously not why I’m doing this,”
“I know kitty,” Marinette smiles, getting him to relax, “But you need to think this over, I’m… I’m going to go pack,”
“Don’t need to think it over,” Chat smirks, “Claws off!”
“Chat! NO!” Marinette yelps, chiding, before actually processing who it was standing before her, “Adrien?!”
“Uhh, you know me?” Adrien stands there so awkwardly Marinette just burst into laughter, “Ummm,”
“S-sorry it’s it’s just,” Marinette held her sides as she kept cracking up, “Spots off!”
Her transformation fell and at that moment Marinette couldn’t even manage to feel any anxiety at him finding out, the ‘o’ face he made was too priceless. Before she could even think of being nervous Adrien also bursts out laughing, the two ending up as wheezing messes on the rooftop. It took a long while and lots of giggling to calm down.
“Well at least I’m not leaving all my friends behind,” Marinette says to the sky, “That is if you still want to come?”
“Meet you here tomorrow Marinette,” Adrien stands up, offering a hand to Marinette, “Same time,”
“See you kitty,” Marinette waves as they part ways, for now. She had a lot she needed to do today.
Marinette doesn't sleep when she gets home. She searches deep in her draws for that special fabric she put aside. Flips through her sketchbook to find that perfect design she did once. Then gets to work making a pattern. It is well past sunrise by the time she is done. She’s late for school. It doesn't matter anymore.
Not running to class for once she makes sure her parents are free later that night. She’d like to spend all day with them, but Marinette wants to see her friends one last time. She stuffs her bag with all the presents she had made her friends for future birthdays. Might as well give them now. Lila smirks at her as she walks into class, Marinette would usually worry. It doesn't matter anymore.
“Hey girl, I was wondering, Lila said some-” Marinette cuts her off, handing Alya a pile of wrapped gifts.
“Hi, sorry I’ve been busy, kind of went into a design frenzy,” Marinette laughs sheepishly, “I was going to give them at your birthday, but I just couldn't wait,”
“Awe, girl this is amazing!” Alya holds up the jacket Marinette made a few months ago, she hugs Marinette tight, “See I told you, Lila, Marinette's just been busy!”
“Too busy to make me anything, I’m sure,” Lila says, teary eyed.
“Actually no,” Marinette smiles, enjoying the utterly shocked look.
“I made this to welcome you to the class, but then you went to Achu,” Marinette places it down with open hostility, “And, well, there wasn't really an opportunity after that,”
After that Lila has a hard time trying to twist it against her. Even the complaints that the bandanna is so much smaller than everyone else's gifts is weak as it has beautiful embroidery of a fox and ladybug, everyone cooing over how sweet and personal the design is. Back when Marinette actually believed her lie that they could start over and be friends. It also was hard to turn anyone against Marinette as she handed out presents to anyone that walked through the door. Laughing and apologizing for her absence lately, claiming the whole time she was making things for them.
When Adrien came to class they both tried to stifle their laughter. Marinette only gave him one thing, so as not to be suspicious. It would help to have all new clothes when they ran away, she would give the rest to him then. It was a scarf, one she made a while ago with the new addition of a green cat paw in the corner.
Marinette, for all intents and purposes, felt wonderful for the rest of the day. She caught up with her friends, felt closer to them than she had in a while actually. They talked and laughed, Marinette for once not encouraging them to keep quiet, joking along with them, and taking a million pictures. Madame bustier didn't complain much, after all, she had an all-new makeup bag plus more.
It was fun. And the ‘see you tomorrow’ was hollow.
Marinette was dreading going back home. She asked for a special dinner that night, saying she had a special surprise to show them. And special it was, Marinette had made a new dress for her Maman, a more casual version of her wedding dress, with a special Marinette flare, plus a matching outfit for her Papa. They smiled saying it was beautiful, just as they had with her very first design and everything she made since then. They ate together and played video games together.
Marinette asked to look at old photo albums and they spent the rest of the night pouring over them. If she slipped a few out to take with her, neither noticed.
“I love you both,” Marinette hugs them tight, imagining she’ll never see them again.
Even if they do defeat Hawkmoth, Marinette's not sure she’ll make it through the fight. She could be gone for years, or maybe never return to Paris. Marinette didn’t know if she’d ever see them again, this could be it.
“We love you too,” Her Maman smiles, cupping her cheek, “Now go to bed we don't want you to be late for school tomorrow,”
Sorry I will be
Marinette just nods, hugging them one last time before heading upstairs. She packs her bag, full of newly brought or made clothes, clothes for Adrien, food, and whatever cash she had on hand. She leaves a note, saying there's something she has to do, that she loves them both and this is in no way their fault, not to look for her but Marinette doubts they’ll listen. She grabs her bag and the miracle box, saying goodbye to her home and disappearing into the night with Tikki.
By the time she meets up with Adrien Marinette is a sobbing mess. They hug each other. Adrien's not crying but she can sense the deep sadness in him. Tikki hugs her too, getting Marinette to calm down.
“So what’s the plan?”
“Go to Gotham,” Marinette shrugs, that was really the extent of it.
“We have nowhere to go,” Chat hums, trying to act nonchalant about everything,
“I guess this means we’re homeless,” Marinette shrugs again, she had really only planned this for herself, and none of that seemed like a concern.
“We can find an abandoned warehouse, set up shop,”
“Either way we’re going to be pretty busy,” Constantly on the run, either running from someone or running after someone.
“Well, you know what they say,” Chat smirks, “We’ll sleep when this bastard is taken down,”
“You know it,” Marinette smiles, genuinely this time, “Pound it?”
“Pound it,”
 ---
“After last week we can indeed confirm these attacks are occurring,”
“Oh sure it wasn't like I told you a month ago,” Jason scoffs, getting glared at by Bruce for interrupting.
“Well you have to admit ‘this guy came and destroyed ten blocks’ is pretty unbelievable when everything’s unscratched,” Tim continues to tap away at his computer, “And now we know the cause,”
The footage was shakily taken from the next building over, partly destroyed. With a bright light everything was fixed.
“Magic,” Dick says needlessly.
“Meta humans,” Batman growls, “Not approved and playing at being heroes,”
“Can we really complain if they fix everything after a fight?” Duke speaks up, “The police didn't even report any casualties, they don’t seem to be rookies,”
“Magic makes them reckless,” Batman shuts the argument down, “More so if they can fix everything, what happens when they can’t?”
“So basically you want them out,” Damian cuts in, there was no point arguing over it for however long, Bruce wouldn't allow them to keep roaming the city.
“Yes,” Bruce fixes them all with a hard stare, making it clear this is an order, “When you come in contact tell them they are to leave or be removed,”
They all agreed. Damian wishes he didn’t have to waste his time worrying about some second rate wannabes thinking they could challenge Batman for the protection of Gotham. They couldn't. What did they have that Batman didn’t?
 ---
 A lot was the answer.
Or this particular new villain. It didn’t make any sense, usually, first time villains were easier to deal with, but no, here Robin was watching as Batman fought a losing battle against them. It didn’t help that they were brainwashing civilians, turning them against the rest. Robin was given very specific instructions not to harm them. Hard when they had no such orders.
Robin barely processes that Batman is thrown through a building before the main villain is turning to him. At least he could use more drastic measures with the actual villain, unsheathing his sword Robin lunges. He trades a few blows, unfortunately doing less damage than the villain can do with a singular super powered punch. With super strength, magic and Gotham citizens being steadily taken over this was looking more like a Justice league threat by the second. Everytime the villains should be down for the count they got back up, Damian couldn't find their weakness.
Robin knows he took a wrong step as the villain doesn't rush forward to take advantage but shoots out a beam, the same one Damian had just watch turn a civilian against the rest of his family. And he has no leverage to dodge. This would be so much worse than the civilians, setting his strength against the others? Without concern for killing them? Would Damian remember?
“Watch out!” A wire wraps around Robin, yanking him out of the way. He falls at someone's feet the wire slipping away, he can hear it whirling above him.
Damian sits up, looking to who grabbed him, ready to fight if necessary, and- Loses his breath.
She's standing over him protectively, a makeshift wire shield repelling the beams that had been causing them so much trouble with ease. Like it was second nature. She looks down at him and smiles so gently, without a hint of fear or worry. Promising she has everything under control.
There's something to be said of Batman's intimidating, steady nature. It can put people at ease in its own way and be even more effective at cutting down enemies with a glare. But this? This is warmth, assurance, a steady appearance more in line with Wonder Woman yet still completely it’s own.
“You alright?” She holds out a hand for him.
Damian snaps out of it taking her hand startling at how she actually lifts him up without any effort on his part.
“Chat you ready?”
“Ready my Lady!”
My lady? Who’s Chat?
His answer comes a second later as a spotted container comes crashing down, fracturing the street. In an instant, the wire wraps around the container a hundred times over.
“Now!” My Lady commands.
“Cataclysm!” Chat yells out, the container crumbles under his touch, wire moving in to constrict around the villain.
The villain thrashes, still being able to send out beams wildly and with their minions closing in. Chat breaks off to fend them all off while Robin tries to catch his breath, Batman still in the rubble of a building. My Lady can’t hold the villain back and fight at the same time. Damian struggles to stand up and help her.
“Lucky charm replay!”
Robin cringes at the bright light then watches as another spotted object falls into her hands. It’s a bent tube she looks around for a few seconds before holding it up. Damian rushes forward as a beam races towards her and she makes no effort to dodge. She catches it with the tube sending it back to the villain, it hits them square in the chest with no effect. Lady nods to herself before doing the same with the next beam. This time robin watches as it misses the villain, grazing their ear and sending their ear peice flying off.
“Chat!”
“On it!” Chat Noir catches the earring from midair, calling cataclysm again turning it to dust.
Damian watches not willing to let his jaw drop as the hideous villain transforms into a normal civilian. It’s such an intriguing sight that Robin startles when something flies towards Chat Noir snatching a purple butterfly from the air and pulling it back to My Lady. A few seconds later a white butterfly is flying out a… yo yo?
“Bye bye little butterfly,” She waves the glowing white butterfly away.
That was so cute
“Who are you?” Batman demands having just recovered, motioning for them to circle around them.
“Uh, your welcome,” Chat Noir scoffs, helping the previous villain up.
“I am Ladybug, this is my partner Chat Noir,” Partner? “We’re the previous heroes of Paris,”
“Paris has no heroes,” Batman glares at them, civilians around them still closing in Robin turns his defenses towards them.
“Then that makes the past what six? Seven? Years really awkward,” Chat Noir looks at Ladybug who shrugs, a civilian takes a swing at her she dodges smoothly before throwing the pipe in the air.
“Miraculous Ladybug!” Now Robin's jaw does drop as a thousand glowing ladybugs swarm around the nearby buildings, maybe all of Gotham not even leaving a scratch behind.
“Why are you in Gotham now then?” Batman recovers first, civilians nearby blinking back into reality.
“Hawkmoth has moved his operations to Gotham to feed off the negative emotions here,” well there’s plenty of that here “It makes his Akuma more powerful and we can no longer continue to operate from Paris,”
“Then he’s in Gotham now and is my problem,” our problem “I can handle this,”
“Well you did a great job of that,” Chat Noir rolls his eyes, leaning on his staff, “How's your back by the way?”
“Chat Noir,”  Ladybug scowls, then turns to Batman, “You can’t and it’s my responsibility as Ladybug and as guardian of the miraculous,”
“What's that-”
Nightwing is interrupted by a beeping from Chat Noir's ring.
“It would be that, we have to go now,” Chat Noir salutes moving to leave, they tighten their circle surrounding them.
“You will leave Gotham,” Batman demands, this time its Ladybugs turn to glare she tsks and rounds on him, not managing to seem that threatening in her brightly colored costume.
“You don’t know who Hawkmoth is, you don’t know what Akuma are, you don't know about the miraculous, you have no clue about the guardians, you hadn't heard of whats been happening in Paris for years and you don’t know who we are or what we’ve done,” Batman is shocked under the forces of the heroine's righteous fury, “There are things going on here that you don't understand, we are here to stay until hawkmoth is defeated,”
Robin watches as she leaves a shell shocked Batman behind dissapering into Gotham’s night with her partner.
Inspiring
 —-
“And why can’t they be in Gotham?” Damian demands from him yet again.
“No metahumans,” Bruce sighs, Damian had been unreasonably stubborn on this front, “They only cause more damage,”
“Actually they repaired a lot,” Damian leans over the desk to glare over that him, “And saved you,”
“Go to bed,” Bruce demands, Alfred busy patching up his wounds. Damian scoffs before storming out of the cave, still half in his robin uniform, “Whats wrong with him?”
“I couldn’t say, master Bruce,” Usually for Alfred that meant he knew exactly what was going on. He tied the final bandage before holding the phone out, “There's a call for you,”
Bruce shrugs on his shirt before answering. It wasn't the phone reserved for business so at least it wouldn't be that big a pain in the neck.
“Bruce,”
Never mind
“Talia,” Bruce growls, going to glare at Alfred who had already made himself scarce, “What do you want?”
“Oh please I’m not up to anything sinister,” Bruce can just imagine her waving him off with a smirk, “This time,”
“But you still want something,” Bruce acknowledged, sinister or not she can cause a lot more trouble without being out too.
“A missing person case, a friend of mine got in touch, her daughter ran away yesterday, l thought it would be right up your alley,”
“Why would you tell me this,” There was obviously more to this, there always was with Talia, “And more importantly why do you care,”
“Oh because she’s Sabine's daughter,” Bruce freezes, a million case files and reports flashing through his mind, none of which outlined a daughter let alone a family, “Surely you’ve heard of Sabine?”
“... We’re on the case,”
“Great, good luck~”
Now he has to worry about potentially one of the most dangerous assassins in the world on the loose. A shift in the shadows catches his eye before disappearing. Great. And now the whole family knew, or would soon.

Grand Festival Showdown
The Miraculous gang as Pokemon trainers. All of them are the same, but their dreams have all been modified to include pokemon. Kagami, Kim, Alix, and Ivan are all battlers. Marinette, Adrien, Luka, Nino, Chloe, Nathaniel, and Lila all do contests. Juleka, Rose, and Mylene all do showcases. This all takes place in the Sinnoh Region.
Includes my favorite Lila Salt as well as Alya Salt.
My original characters are included in this story as well. Lyon being a champion grand coordinator, Vallia being a pokemon nurse in training, Apollo is a contest contestant, Mason being a gym leader, and Lena is a friend to the twins.
This is a long one, about 6000 words, so buckle up people.
*****
If there was one thing that Adrien loved, it was competing in pokemon contests. Since his father usually forced him to model for his fashion company, he appreciated the beauty that he saw in the pokemon that his father made matching outfits of for the photoshoots. And from watching the Pokemon League on television, he definitely also knew that they had power. So contests were the perfect blend of how he saw pokemon as the beautiful and powerful creatures that they were.
Not that his father even knew that he participated in them. Gabriel Agreste wanted his son to be a proper heir to Gabriel Pokemon Fashion. And that did not include anything involving contests, battles, or even showcases. He forced him to do all kinds of photoshoots, had him model with humans and pokemon alike, not to mention the fact that he would not have gotten his starter pokemon had he not sneaked out of the house. But he did it anyway, and his adorable Turtwig had managed to evolve into a Torterra.
But if there was one mistake that Gabriel made, it was letting him have lots of privacy. There may be cameras outside his bedroom door, but none inside of his room. That certainly helped when he had to sneak out to meet his friends, capture more pokemon, train his pokemon, or compete in a contest that was nearby. Plus, he also was able to sneak away to contests that were in the same town as a photoshoot that he was doing. He just had to lie and say that he was staying in his hotel room for a few hours. His life may have been mostly controlled, but that did not mean he was not sneaky when he was getting what he wanted.
Since contests were televised, he did have to keep his father from finding out. So he donned a disguise. He became Cat Noir, a mysterious pokemon contest prodigy that no one knew the real name of.
Only three people knew about his second life as Cat Noir. His best friend Kagami, who shared the same type of sheltered life as he did but she preferred battles to contests, and his other two friends Lyon and Marinette. Lyon is one half of a set of twins, his sister currently working under a Nurse Joy in order to become a pokemon doctor, and he was already a top coordinator back in his home region of Kalos. Marinette is a coordinator like him and also came from the Kalos region like Lyon, but she is usually shy and also has desires to become a pokemon fashion designer.
He had met Kagami during one of the social events they were both forced to attend by their parents. They got along great and both had the same desire to be free. If they were in the same town, which happened more often than one would think, they would often use each other as an excuse to sneak away for a gym battle, contest, or training with their pokemon. He met Lyon by chance when he had been training and his Turtwig almost hit the Top Coordinator with a razor leaf gone wild. Lucky for him that Lyon was a lot more down-to-earth than one would expect from a person with as much success as him while he was so young. Marinette, being a fellow coordinator, had been at a contest which she had lost to him. She had seen him take off his Cat Noir mask and recognized him from his father's magazines. She had been a great friend to him and understood why he used the mask.
There were few things that could actually make him smile so carefree other than contests. His constant photoshoots, dealing with stuck-up models, and his seemingly careless father did not make him smile that way. He hated modeling and even though he loved being all the pokemon that he modeled with, he wanted to see pokemon just as free as he wanted to be. He wanted to be famous for working hard like legendary trainers Ash Ketchum, Gary Oak, and Steven Stone. Or coordinators like Fantina, Wallace, and Zoey.
But he was now was at the top pokemon contest of the Sinnoh region. The Grand Festival. He had earned his ribbons and now Cat Noir was at his first Grand Festival. What he looked forward to most of all was that he knew that Kagami was going to be in the audience, Lyon was a special guest, and that Marinette was also competing.
He did not like the idea that he might have to battle his friend at some point, but these things do tend to happen. Especially since he was also aware that other friends of his had also made it to the Grand Festival. They had all attended the same pokemon school before it was time for their journeys to begin. He knew his friends Luka, Nathaniel, and his childhood friend Chloe were also all competing.
So, he was just getting ready backstage before all of them would have their qualifying performances before the battle rounds started. He was in his Grand Festival outfit of a black suit with green details, a black and green coat with a cape-like back, shiny green dress shoes, "cat claw" gloves, his signature cat-eye mask, and fake black cat ears on his head.
"My, my, don't you look fancy," Adrien heard near him.
The model almost jumped out of his skin but calmed down when he saw that it was just Lyon. And from looking at him, he definitely saw why people called him the White Wolf.
Lyon was in an icy outfit that almost gave him the illusion of having his own ice powers. He had on a fancy white vest over a blue short-sleeve silk shirt. It matched the white pants that he wore with his shin-high blue boots. He also wore a white hooded cloak with snowflake designs all over it. On his lower arms were silver arm-band bracelets with snowflake and wolf designs on them. His midnight-black hair also had fake wolf ears in it.
"Oh, Lyon," Adrien let himself breathe again. "For a second, I thought my identity had been discovered."
"Well, you may need to get a little better at hiding when you change," Lyon chuckled. "If you win and become Top Coordinator, the press will be even more ruthless with trying to find out your identity."
"I deal with the press on a regular basis already, Lyon," Adrien reminded him.
"Yeah, but I can tell you from experience that when it comes to being a Top Coordinator, people pay more attention to us," Lyon said.
"Well, I can see why that would happen with you," Adrien not-so-subtly flirted with him.
"Careful, kitty," Lyon teased him. "Wouldn't want the wolf to eat the cat before his big performance."
Adrien chuckled, always having liked how they could always joke around with their chosen performer names of cat and wolf. There were so few people that he could act like himself around and he certainly enjoyed Lyon's company.
"So, you here as just a special guest or also as a surprise judge," Adrien asked him.
"My dear Cat Noir, now that would be telling," Lyon smirked as he teased the teen coordinator.
"Oh, thank Arceus that I found you," they both heard a female voice.
They both turned and saw Marinette running toward them. Lyon recognized her from pictures that Adrien had sent him and of course, Adrien would recognize his best friend even if she was decked out in her Grand Festival dress. Probably a dress of her own design as well.
She was in a beautiful dress that was in a ladybug design with a little pink mixed in. It was a knee-length dress that was mostly red with black spots all over it. Under it was a crinoline that was colored pink that helped her dress by more poofy. The sleeves of her dress were elegant bell sleeves that ended at her elbows and lower arms instead of her wrists. Her hair was also extended and placed into a long ponytail coming from the top of the back of her head with roses tied where the ponytail started. On her feet were red wedge-heel boots that went up to her knees.
"How you can run in those heels is beyond me," Lyon said.
"Especially given that one of the first things that you told me about yourself was that you are extremely clumsy," Adrien added.
"Well, I was running with a purpose," Marinette said.
"That purpose being to find one of us if what you had said means anything," Lyon says.
"It's about Adrien, or rather Cat Noir really," Marinette said.
"Oh, great," Adrien sighed, having expected the fame of his mysterious identity to cause some type of drama at the Grand Festival.
"Do you remember when I was telling you about that liar, Adrien," Marinette asked him.
"Yeah," Adrien nodded. "Lila is what you told me her name was. The girl that lies with every breath she takes and has an ego bigger than a Wailord."
"Well, she somehow got her five ribbons and is going around telling people that she knows who you are," Marinette tells her friend.
"What," Adrien's eyes widen.
"Not just that," Marinette continued. "She is also saying that she is dating you and you're apparently head over heels for her."
Adrien could not help but facepalm when he heard that.
"Here comes the headache that I did not know was going to happen," he groaned.
"Here's some aspirin," Marinette gave Adrien the medicine. "I thought that if the liar managed to get here, I would need some myself. I've already had three headaches because of her. And that is just today."
"Am I missing something," Lyon asked.
"Yes," Adrien said before popping the medicine into his mouth.
Marinette rolled her eyes as she took the liberty of explaining.
"Lila Rossi is a pathological liar that I ran into after I won my first two contests," she says. "At first, I had believed her tall tales until she said that she knew the designer for Jagged Stone and Clara Nightingale."
"MDC," Lyon raised an eyebrow. "As such a private designer, I highly doubt that a random girl would know her. Especially if she is bragging about it to anyone that will listen to her."
Marinette nodded. "Exactly. So I then immediately knew that Lila was nothing but a liar. Especially since she said that MDC is a boy when anyone with common sense, and access to the internet, know that MDC's only given clue to who she is that she is a she."
"Yet, people actually believe her," Lyon put a hand on his hip.
"As I said, she is a pathological liar," Marinette says. "One that uses people's knowledge to make her lies sound realistic. Like how my friend Rose is friends with Prince Ali, and my boyfriend Luka is Jagged Stone's son, and even how Adrien is Cat Noir. Lila uses people's own experiences to give her lies credibility. Like a situation of 'if I can know celebrities then so can she."
"Weirdly enough, I can see how that makes sense," Adrien said.
"What can we do about her," Lyon asked. "Can we just have Adrien call her out as Cat Noir?"
"Since Adrien has to keep his identity a secret, she could just pull out another lie about him protecting her or that they got into a fight," Marinette said. "It's how she explained when MDC posted on social media that she had never met Lila before."
"This is gonna be a disaster, isn't it," Adrien guessed. "There is no way someone like how you describe Lila would go down without a fight."
"She may be lying, but won't she lie herself into a corner," Lyon asked. "Especially if 'Cat Noir' actually does enter a relationship."
"The problem is the damage that she can cause along the way," Marinette said.
"Trust me, I was on your train of thought as well until Marinette explained things more to me," Adrien said. "Lila is not just lying about herself, she is also lying about what she can do for others. Saying that she can put a good word in for people to get certain jobs, internships, or futures in careers that they want. When it actually comes time for them to her to fulfill those promises, a lot of people will be met with disappointment. Plus, with her promising these things, they will not apply to other jobs, colleges, or internships on their own. It would take a long time for them to recover from her lies."
"I see," Lyon understood what they meant. "Guess this just gives me more reasons to not come out in public more if I have to deal with people like her."
"She hasn't happened to make any lies about Lyon, has she," Adrien asked Marinette.
"Well, she apparently was trained in the art of contests by Lyon and was supposedly the muse that inspired him to chose his 'White Wolf' look," Marinette said.
"And... now I have a headache," Lyon pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Here you go," Marinette handed the top coordinator some aspirin.
"Thank you," he took it immediately.
Adrien had known Lyon for quite a while now. Lyon had come from a rich family just like he did. But while he had been almost forced to model, Lyon's parents let him choose his own path. He was known for being the youngest ever grand coordinator out there. But since he had met him, Adrien also knew that Lyon generally was very humble and kind, but was basically an ice prince to anyone that tries to use him for their own gain.
So if Lila was not in trouble before, she sure was going to be now that Lyon knew about her lying about him. And that was troubling enough without Lyon's twin sister, Vallia, hearing about this. She might have the nickname of the Flower Princess and might be trying to become a Pokemon doctor, but that did not mean she was not dangerous on the battlefield.
"If she is still telling lies, I am guessing that she still has her regular audience," Adrien looks at Marinette again.
She nodded sadly. "Alya is still her most loyal sheep and there are also a lot of other friends of ours that are under her spell as well."
Lyon looked at the two with a raised eyebrow, silently asking for more details.
"There are times where I can escape photoshoots even if I do not have a contest to sneak off to," Adrien explained. "I would meet up with Marinette as much as I could and she introduced me to a lot of her friends. I have especially gotten along well with Nino, Kim, Juleka, and Marinette's boyfriend Luka."
"And before Lila came along, my friend Alya was my best friend," Marinette said. "I went to our town pokémon school with them before we all started our journeys. But when Lila showed up with all of her tall tales and false promises, they follow her like sheep following their shepherd. Most of my old class is under her spell. Only Adrien, myself, Luka, Kim, Juleka, and our other friends Nathaniel, Marc, and Kagami know that she is nothing but a liar."
"Alya used to be a reporter hopeful," Adrien tells Lyon. "She ran a very popular blog about up-and-coming battlers and coordinators. But then Lila came along with her tales and now most of Alya's blog is about her. She basically takes Lila's words as gospel and attacks anyone that so much as even hints that they think that Lila is anything less than a perfect angel."
"Wow," Lyon gasped. "This girl sounds worse than an angry Darkrai, and you never want to run into one of those."
"Yeah, Lila is a piece of work," Adrien sighed. "She really needs to be silenced before her tales get someone into trouble."
"Yeah," Marinette said. "She has been saying how Jagged Stone wrote a song about her and that Clara Nightingale stole dance moves from her. Those types of lies can ruin their careers."
"Well, I have no secret identity," Lyon says. "She won't be able to lie her way out of me saying that I have no idea who she is."
"Just be careful how you explain how you heard about her lies," Adrien warned him. "Lila has been trying to turn people against Marinette because she knows about her lies. At a few past contests that I had won, I heard a few other coordinators insulting her all because of lies that Lila told about her."
Lyon looked disgusted by the behavior. Coordinators and battlers were both very large families. Yes, there were some bad seeds in each family, but this girl was something way beyond a bad seed. How can one person just be such a selfish liar that she is willing to ruin another person's life just because they did not believe their lies?
But before they could continue their conversation, an announcement was made over the backstage speakers. It was for the coordinators that were competing to get ready since the first round was going to be starting soon.
"Just do your best, you two," Lyon tells them. "And if that liar gives you any trouble, she won't be much of an issue for much longer."
With a "Whoosh" of his cloak, Lyon left to go down the hallway. He had his own business at the Grand Festival that he needed to take care of before he would be able to help his friends.
"He always did like to make dramatic exits," Adrien chuckled.
"I just hope we actually won't have to deal with Lila for much longer," Marinette says.
The two of them went the opposite way down the hall, to the locker room where the contestants have to stay when they are not on stage. Adrien went to the side and leaned against the wall to keep up his appearance of the mysterious and quiet Cat Noir. Looking around the room, he noticed some familiar faces. Like Marinette had gone to stand next to her boyfriend, and fellow coordinator, Luka. There was also her friend Nathaniel and his boyfriend Marc along with her former friend Nino, Alya's boyfriend. Adrien also noticed his childhood friend Chloe as well and, unfortunately, Lila.
Soon, on the screens, appeared Marian, the usual contest announcer for Sinnoh. And from the audience that was seen in the background, Adrien could make out Kagami in the crowd as well as Alya. He was surprised to see Kagami there, but it was a very welcome surprise.
"Welcome, everyone to the beautiful waterside town of Lake Valor for this year's Grand Festival," she announced into her mic, making the crowd cheer. "Sixty talented coordinators from all over the Sinnoh region have joined us here to perform and battle their way into becoming the newest Top Coordinator!"
"And that will be me," was muttered all around the locker room, from confident and cocky contestants.
"Over the next few days, these talents coordinators will perform and battle their way into being named the next Top Coordinator," Marian continued. "The first stage is the Performance Stage, where our contestants will show off the beauty of their pokémon and their moves in double performances. After this stage, we will boil down our contestants to the lucky thirty-two for the Battle Stage where they will fight in double battles to win the chance to be named Top Coordinator."
"We got this, Torterra," Adrien whispered to the Pokeball in his hand.
"And to help us, let me introduce our judges," Marian continued again. "First is the Chief of the Pokémon Activities Committee, our head judge, Mr.Contesta."
"I look forward to watching all these coordinators doing their very best," the judge said as the spotlight shined down on him.
"Next is the President of the Pokémon Fan Club, Mr.Sukiza," Marian introduced.
"Remarkable," the next judge used his catchphrase.
"And, of course, Nurse Joy," Marian announced. "She is a very special guest all the way from the Kanto region."
The spotlight shined down on the pokemon nurse.
"It's an honor to be here and to help judge these amazing contestants, I called my sisters from Pewter City and Cerulean City."
Two more Nurse Joy seemed to materialize from behind her.
"We're very happy to be here," they all said at once.
"And last, but definitely not the least, our guest judge," Marian announces, making the crowd and contestants curious as to who it might be. "He is the youngest ever Top Coordinator of three regions and has graced us with his presence from all the way in Kalos. He's known as the White Wolf, it's Lyon Garden!"
A fourth spotlight shined down and Lyon was presented, making the crowd erupt into cheers.
Adrien was both shocked and not shocked at the same time. He figured that Lyon was here for a reason, but he suspected that it was for a guest performance, not as a judge. But he did smirk as he saw Lila pale a little at the sight of one of the people that she lied about.
"Ladies and gentlemen, coordinators of all ages," Lyon says. "I hope to see plenty of creativity, skill, passion, and most of all, I want to see good sportsmanship. I wish you all the luck in the world, but I will still tell you the cold hard truth about everything you and your pokemon do."
Adrien chuckled under his breath. Lyon would always be Lyon, and that meant that the Ice Prince, which all of their friends called him, would come out every now and again.
"The performance stage will be divided into three separate stages," Marian announced as all three male judges went to a separate stage with one of the Nurse Joy's. "Blue, green, and red. And the performances will be happening simultaneously. Let's get this first round started!"
The crowd cheered. In the locker room, the three first contestants were called out for each of the stages.
Adrien certainly got the meaning of the three stages. It was an extra challenge to be able to do a proper performance when there were two others happening at the same time. It was all about being able to focus on what you were doing and not get overwhelmed.
As the performances started and coordinators showed off their skills, Adrien definitely saw a few that would be his main competition. Such as when Luka took his turn on the blue stage, he did a very enchanting performance with his Sunflora and ghost-type Oricoro. As Marinette has told him, Luka loves music and almost always includes sound in his performances. And as he heard the sound and saw the glowing musical notes of Luka's performance, he knew that boy was going to be a challenging opponent.
There was also Nathaniel and Marc. They worked on a pokemon comic book together, so both of their creative and artistic skills showed in their performances. And it was also an amazing sight to see how Nathaniel had a rare Phione that he paired with his Piplup for his performance was stunning aquatic moves. And Marc was definitely no slouch as he gave an incredible display of nature with his Meganium and Cherubi.
But that was to say that there were not some fails as well.
Sadly, this list of fails included Nino. Adrien might have once called him a friend, but that certainly stopped when the guy started believing Lila's lies about Marinette. And by how badly he failed his performance, Adrien had to guess that Nino had probably taken some of Lila's "advice" about what he should do. It certainly was not a good look to the green stage judges when his Buizel went flying back from a Will-O-Wisp from his Drifblim was too powerful for the combo he was trying to do.
When Marinette got her turn on the red stage, Adrien was proven right when he had guessed that she would do a flawless performance. It was an amazing combination of her icy Amaura with her beautiful Vivillon. Especially when she had beautiful glowing snowflakes falling all over the stage with a combination of icy wind and silver wind followed by a morning sun.
Plus, it was certainly nice to see Lila so angry over Marinette having done nothing wrong in her performance one bit.
But even Adrien had to admit that even though he hated Lila as a person, she did pretty well during her own performance. Sure, her combo moves were a little predictable with the pokemon that she chose, but they still worked out in the end for her. But Adrien had a feeling that like the liar that she was, she was probably just using combo moves that she has seen in the past and using them herself but with different pokemon so that it is not obvious that she is just a copycat.
Then, Cat Noir was called for the blue stage. Adrien took a deep breath as he went out toward the stage. He passed Marinette on his way and she gave him an encouraging hug. He knew that Lyon was the judge for the blue stage along with the main Nurse Joy guest judge from Kanto. But he knew that Lyon would not judge him any easier just because they were friends. If anything, he'd be judged harder since Lyon knows how hard he had trained for this.
"And next on the blue stage is the talk of the Grand Festival," he heard Marian announce. "A masked coordinator that has been taking the contest world by storm. The pokemon contest prodigy himself, Cat Noir."
There was loud cheering as he ran out there and pulled out his pokeballs.
"Torterra, Togekiss, claws out," he threw their pokeballs into the air with his signature catchphrase.
With the star sticker on both the pokeballs, both of the pokemon came out in a swirl of stars. Most would doubt using a pokemon as big and tough-looking as Torterra for the Performance Stage, but Adrien was not most people.
Togekiss lands gracefully on the tree of Torterra's shell. There was a reason why Togekiss were known as some of the most graceful pokemon in the world.
"Togekiss, sky attack. Torterra, leaf storm," Adrien commanded.
Togekiss shined with a white aura as it slowly floated into the air. But at the same time, Torterra's tree let out its storm of leaves and green wind. Since Togekiss was right on the tree, as it flew into the air, the storm swirled around it and followed it. The leaves and window giving off an incredible light that was a result of the combo of the light of the sky attack with the flow of the leaf storm. Togekiss then flew higher into the air.
"Safeguard," Adrien commanded.
Togekiss then unleashed the blue and sea green force field that the protection move grants. It caused the sky attack and the leaf storm to disperse in a gorgeous flash of light.
Lyon and Nurse Joy both looked impressed by how he so effortlessly made a beautiful start to his performance.
"Torterra, sunny day. Togekiss, aerial ace," Adrien commanded.
Torterra's tree glowed with sunlight as it then threw a ball of light into the air. It headed right toward Togekiss as it was surrounded by streams of white energy as it flew around to use its move. The sunny day move was hit by Togekiss, resulting in a bright flash of light.
And the crowd and judges and fellow contestants gasped as Togekiss emerged from the light. The aerial ace and sunny day had merged together and had created a stunning rainbow trail that followed it as it flew around the stage. It was one of the most stunning things ever seen in a contest in ages.
Togekiss then did an aerial twirl before landing right back on Torterra's tree and causing the rainbow trail to burst into rainbow-colored sparkles that fell all over the stage.
Adrien took a bow as his performance ended. The crowd and judges were all on their feet as they gave him a giant round of applause. Lyon caught his eye and gave him a look filled with pride and congratulations.
"I don't think I have ever seen a performance like that," Lyon says, doing his judging. "A true mastery of both the power of a Torterra and the elegance of a Togekiss. Truly the best performance I have seen in a long time."
"It was indeed incredible," Nurse Joy added her judging. "To combine two pokemon so different from each other and making them work in such harmony really is a breathtaking piece of art."
Adrien could not be prouder of himself as he returned Torterra and Togekiss to their pokeballs and then started to walk back to the locker room. He was about halfway there when Marinette basically tackled him with a hug.
"I have never seen anything like that," she practically yelled in excitement. "You're Torterra was so well-trained and Togekiss was beautiful. I will never know where you get your time to train performances like that, but that was so awesome."
Adrien chuckled at the enthusiasm of his friend.
"Thanks, Marinette," he said. "I loved your performance as well. Those snowflakes were such works of art and they were almost like fairies floating around the stage."
Marinette blushed at the compliment.
"Thanks," she smiled. "I knew that ice moves and flying-type moves are usually a good mix, so when you add in the light from the silver wind, it creates the snowflakes."
"I just know that I will see you in the finals," Adrien grinned at her. "I may not want to beat you, but I'm going to."
"In your dreams, kitty," Marinette giggled as she knew that it would be one hell of a showdown.
"Get your hands off of Lila's man, Mari-brat," a female voice was heard.
"And, here we go again," Marinette groaned.
Marinette turned around as Adrien looked at who was yelling. It seems that Alya was as much of Lila's attack Growlith now as she always seems to be since the liar showed up in their lives. And it looked like Lila was fake crying behind her while Nino was trying to comfort her.
"Uh... who are you," Adrien asked.
Now, Adrien had done some voice acting for a few movies that his dad wanted him to do. So, he was a pretty good actor. Adrien might know who Alya is, but Cat Noir has never met her before.
Alya looked at Adrien, smiling at him. But he could still see the rage in her eyes over something that Lila probably lied about. This was probably about the lies about him dating Lila with the liar probably also throwing in some other lies to make Marinette look even worse.
"Oh, I guess Lila never mentioned me," Alya said. "I'm Alya, your girlfriend's best friend."
"Uh... And who is..." Adrien tried to reveal Lila as a liar.
"Oh, don't worry about lying to protect her," Alya interrupted him, proving that they were right about how Lila would lie her way out of Cat Noir saying that he did not know her. "But I should warn you that this girl that you're talking to is nothing but a giant bully."
"Excuse me," Adrien had to stop himself from snapping at Marinette's former best friend.
"She is nothing but a bully, liar, and cheat," Alya glared at Marinette. "She is always bullying Lila and trying to steal her pokemon. She always calls Lila a liar when she is no such thing. Plus, she drugs all her pokemon to make sure her performances are good. Plus, she steals Lila's contest ideas. So, get your hands off of Lila's boyfriend, Mari-brat."
"You know, Luka used to tell me that you're heart song screamed that you were a bad friend," Marinette crossed her arms. "I did not believe him, but I will never doubt him ever again since you have ditched me for a liar."
"SEE," Alya yelled as she looked at Adrien and pointed at Marinette as if she had just been proven right. "She just called Lila a liar. She is a total bully."
"Well, she obviously is..." Adrien was interrupted again but by a different person this time.
"Hello, kitty," Lyon says as he approached the group.
"Wolfie," Adrien was immediately back in a good mood as he saw his friend.
"I have a reward for you for such an incredible performance," Lyon said.
Before Adrien could ask, he was suddenly kissed by Lyon. But the shock soon wore off as he melted into the kiss.
Marinette looked ready to burst in excitement as her ship has finally sailed. But she did now owe Luka a batch of his favorite caramel and chocolate scones since he had bet her that the two would get together at the Grand Festival while she thought it would happen after it. But she did not care.
Alya looked ready to burst in anger. Lila looked like she wanted to either cry more fake tears or just throw a monster tantrum. Nino just stood there with his mouth hanging open.
"WHAT IN THE NAME OF ARCEUS ARE YOU DOING," Alya screamed.
That made them break apart from the kiss. But Lyon just put his arm around Adrien's waist.
"I believe that I was kissing my boyfriend," Lyon said. "We've had to keep it secret because of the media, but we've been together a few months."
Adrien and Marinette both knew that he was lying, but they did not care. Besides, this was to both expose Lila and have an excuse to start dating.
"You've been cheating on your girlfriend for that long," Alya continued to scream.
Lila then chose to speak up, also choosing to fake cry.
"How could you do this to be, Noir," she cried to fake tears.
"Oh, so this is the girl that you were warning me about, Marinette," Adrien decided to join Lyon in his act. "The one that was going around and saying that I was dating her?"
"Yep, that's her," Marinette played along as well.
"Well, then," Adrien started, facing Alya. "As I was about to tell you, I do not have a girlfriend. I never have and I never will. As you can plainly see, I am gay and I have a wonderful boyfriend."
"Lila is not a liar," Alya continued to scream. "You're just a cheater that is trying to make her look bad."
"Wow, this girl is a piece of work," Lyon rolled his eyes.
"You should be ashamed of yourself," Alya yelled at Lyon. "She was the one that gave you the inspiration to be the White Wolf and you trained her to be a coordinator. How could you betray her like this?!?"
"Her? Inspire me? As if," Lyon gave Alya an icy glare. "This is the first day that I have ever met this girl. I became the White Wolf because my sister used to call me a wolf because of how loyal I am to my friends and family. They also all call me the Ice Prince, so White Wolf was born out of my two childhood nicknames."
"You need better friends since Marinette is most definitely is right," Adrien said. "This Lila girl is, most definitely, nothing but a liar."
"Let's go before our IQ gets any lower from being around a liar and her loyal sheep," Lyon held Adrien's hand as the three of them left. "And if someone is accusing you of drugging your pokemon, Marinette, I will lend you my family lawyers to sue that liar for slander."
Marinette wanted to laugh so hard as she saw the look of horror on Lila's face as they passed. She did start laughing once they were out of earshot.
"This is turning into the best day of my life," Marinette looked so happy.
"You're welcome," Lyon smirked.
"Won't you now get accused of favoritism when Lila will probably spread that you two are 'together' as revenge," Marinette asked Lyon.
"Everyone saw Adrien's performance, so I doubt that will happen," Lyon was confident.
"Okay," Marinette accepted that. "Also, it is about time you two got together. Adrien's had a crush on you forever."
"MARINETTE," Adrien yelled as he blushed.
All Marinette did in response was smirk and giggle.

Okay so I have this whole head cannon about Alya accidently finding out that Marinette is secret best friends with Chat Noir. Let me explain:
So, after Lila has messed with Marinette’s stuff one to many times (whether that be stealing her sketchbook, slipping stuff in/out of her backpack, etc.) Marinette decides to get rid of her physical diary. There’s probably a lot of paranoia that leads to this decision, since it’s not like Marinette was planning on taking her diary out of her room any way, but also, Marinette knows that Lila is a slippery snake so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
But, especially after becoming Ladybug, writing in her diary each day is an important and necessary habit for Marinette to keep. As someone with a lot of anxiety, way too many things going on, and a lot of critical thinking skills, it’s nice to have a way to work through her thoughts. Otherwise she’d probably find herself getting stuck in her head, thoughts running in circles, trying to relax. Plus, it’s a nice for her to have a place to write down all of the fears and worries that come with being Ladybug. Tikki is nice to talk to, but she doesn’t understand humans fully. This leads to Marinette needing something else to confide in about being a teen superhero and since she can’t do that with an actual person, the diary works.
While it might seem out of character for her to write down her biggest and most dangerous secret somewhere someone could fine, Marinette is shown to have a very trusting relationship with her parents, so she probably wouldn’t assume they would read her diary. Also, she is a fourteen-year-old girl and sometimes, especially at that age, we do things that are irrational just because we feel we have to (being angsty is an unavoidable problem that comes with puberty). Anyway, that is all to say that even if Marinette does get rid of her diary, she would still need a place to put her thoughts down. It helps her stay sane enough to avoid akumas.
She decides to start making a video diary and enlists Max to help her hide it. She doesn’t tell him what it’s for, just that she needs to know how to hide things on her computer. (okay and I know nothing about technology), but he’d help her learn how to encrypt it or lock it or something, so it’s hidden from anyone who’s actively trying to find it. That way anyone *cough*Lila*cough* looking for it would not only have to have the knowledge it exists but also enough computer skills to get through password protection and into the file. Either that or steal her whole computer.
Now that is a whole long introduction for the idea that a lot of these video entries have Chat popping up in the background asking to watch a movie, play a game, stumbling over to take a nap in her bed, etc. And maybe Marinette sometimes forgets to turn off the camera so there’s hours of footage of them playing Jenga or scratching behind his ears while he describes a cool bird he saw or any other friendship goals BS they get up to.
(For this head cannon to work we are also going to ignore how much space recordings take up on a computer BUT, because I’m nothing if not practical, even when thinking about teenage superheroes, I do actually have a solution to that too.
Maybe chat finds out and instead of telling her to delete he gives her a fancy smancy hard drive (with his rich boy money) to keep her recordings on since: 1. He sees how much it helps his friend and wants to support her 2. Marinette is the first friend he feels like he really shows himself to and he really likes the idea he can go back and watch their more mundane times together (Nino is his friend but even he doesn’t get to see the full Chat side of him, which Adrien probably feels is more who he is since it’s not something his dad can control. Also, especially when he starts getting closer to Mari and they start talking more about their emotions and he lets her see his softer side, she gets to see sassy chat and sweet Adrien mixed together.)
When he gives her the hard drive he tells her this and she’s super touched, and she doesn’t want to tell him that having a hard drive like this is against the whole point of getting rid of her physical diary in the first place. So, she starts putting the files on it and works with Tikki to find good places to hide it. She sees so much death and destruction as Ladybug, so she understands wanting to hold onto things like this. It’s a lot better than having to cut out the hours and hours long video of Chat helping her to make a maid outfit that he then refused to take off for the rest of the night.)
One day, Marinette is probably super stressed and has not been sleeping a lot, maybe has a lot of assignments due the next day. So, when she gets home from school she decides to just start her afternoon with a video entry to help calm herself before getting started on all of her work. Then, as a surprise, Alya just bursts in to hang out, they probably haven’t been seeing as much of each other since Lila is trying to drive a wedge in their friendship. Marinette would quickly turn off her monitor and overall look sketchy but would tell Alya she was just working on a project and not to worry about it. Alya would be super curious and would probably push Marinette on it but she’d stay resolute. Then, Marinette’s Mom would call that she needed her help really quick, Marinette would steal a glance at the computer but still go down to help.
Alya’s a good friend but she’s a journalist at heart, she would really want to know what was on the computer. Additionally, she would feel that Marinette has recently been pulling away from her and changing as a person, maybe looking at the computer would help her learn what has gotten into Marinette? She would turn the computer back on and the files wouldn’t be labeled with anything but maybe the date, so she’d click on one to see what these videos were for. It would quickly become obvious what they were and Alya would know she should turn them off, but Lila told her the other day that Marinette had been saying some nasty stuff behind people’s backs. Watching her diary could help Alya to understand Marinette’s motivations a bit more. It was a crappy thing to do as a friend, but she knew Marinette was a good person at heart and she was so sick of being confused by her new, troubling personality.
Alya would click on a random one and—due to some fantastic Ladybug luck—it wouldn’t have anything incriminating on the Ladybug front. It would instead just be Marinette discussing all of the projects she had coming up for school, her designing goals for the week, and her upcoming plans with friends. Overall it would be pretty mundane and would lack anything that would justify Alya invading her friend’s privacy. Alya would be starting to feel pretty bad and would be just about to close out of the video when there would be a muffled thump from off screen. Video!Marinette didn’t react but Alya wanted know what it was. Her confusion would be eased moments late when Chat busted through the trapdoor in the ceiling, already talking, “Mari! You have to teach me how to paint! I stayed up watching Bob Ross videos until 4 last night and I bet I could do that too!”
Alya would then watch as Marinette casually (looking happier than she had since Lila returned) respond to her “kitty” about how painting was a lot harder than it looked. The video would cut off soon after, showing a still frame of Chat hugging Marinette from behind, rubbing his head against hers and begging her to teach him. The computer would stay on that image until Marinette returned to find her shells hocked best friend. “YOU’RE FRIENDS WITH CHAT AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME????”

Three Kids and a Hamster
This was my contribution to the @adrienettezine.  I joined the zine as a beta and ended up as a pinch hitter - this sweet little fluffy story was the result.  I hope you enjoy it!  I just love these two so much.
Read it on Ao3 here.
                                           **********************
The same full moon that lit their way over rooftops and across the Seine an hour before shines through the hatch above the bed, illuminating their entwined legs in its gentle glow and casting shadows on the room below. Even if she weren't tucked beneath his arm with her cheek against his chest, this would be a place of perfect peace, awash in a sense of rightness and comfort and home. It makes his chest constrict all of a sudden, his next inhale a sharp shudder that rouses her immediately from near-sleep.
"You okay, Chaton?" she murmurs, eyes wide and worried.
He reassures her with a soft, genuine smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just...thinking."
Bending forward to press a kiss to her forehead, he pulls her back down to his chest and starts up a purr for her. The breathy giggle he gets in return is always worth the twinge of embarrassment and the weird tickle in his throat.
"About what?"
The purr dies down, replaced with a contented hum. "How much I love you, of course, Princess. What else?"
As expected, she swats him playfully and laughs, but a moment later he feels her hand stretch across his torso as she cuddles closer into his side.
"I mean it," she whispers into his shirt. "Your breathing got all weird. What's wrong?"
"Bugaboo, you know you take my breath away!"
"Adrien."
Her voice is all no-nonsense Ladybug, but it just makes him grin wider.
"I'm actually not kitten, Marinette."
She groans and lifts her head again but when she meets his gaze after an exaggerated eye roll, her features soften in response to his. She begins to duck her head shyly before changing course and pressing her lips to his instead, soft and sweet and warm. His eyes slip shut and he melts beneath her, his ever-romantic heart singing her name over and over in a three-beat cadence.
"I love you, too," she whispers against his lips, finally breaking away after a long, slow kiss that leaves them both breathless.
After a quick kiss at the corner of his mouth and another on his jaw, she settles back into the crook of his neck, her breath warm and tickly and perfect against his skin.
Logically, he knows he needs to transform and head home, but the stark difference between his bedroom prison and Marinette's warmth is enough to keep him here just a little longer, stretching time and tempting fate.
Wouldn't it be wonderful, he thinks, as the sleepy calm drifts over them once more, to stay here forever, just like this?
He imagines waking up this way, morning breath and snoring kwamis and a warm tangle of limbs illuminated by a new day's dawnlight instead of the quiet moon. Perhaps there would be a purring cat asleep on the bed with them. And one day, maybe, he'd wake to find a toddler who had crawled up onto the bed and wriggled between them in the night to be close to maman and papa. A family. His heart squeezes with emotion again, but he keeps his breathing steady and Marinette doesn't seem to notice this time.
Dreaming of what the future might hold seems like an extravagant luxury in a world where a supervillain regularly terrorizes Paris and threatens to rend the very fabric of the universe and its delicate balance. Then again, isn't that all the more reason to dream?
Even with the freedom being Chat Noir grants him, the responsibility of avoiding that fate is a heavy weight across his shoulders, and a far more cumbersome yoke on his Lady's. Imagining a day when they can transform for fun instead of necessity, cook dinner together, fall asleep just like this, and not have to wonder if an akuma alert will rouse them before the sun—well, that just makes him fight each battle harder and despise Hawkmoth that much more. After all, the fate of humanity includes the fate of Adrien Agreste and Marinette Dupain-Cheng, too.
Her fingers glide feather-light at his wrist, so he knows she's still awake, and before he can think twice about it, he's murmuring a question into the dark.
"Hey, Bug?" He takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. "Do you ever think about...the future?"
Her hand stops its gentle, soothing motion against his arm, and he misses the feeling immediately.
"After we defeat Hawkmoth, or...?" she trails off.
"That could happen tomorrow, so let's start with tomorrow and go from there."
She resumes her caress, though this time her hand trails higher, up and under his t-shirt sleeve to the warm skin of his bicep. He smiles against her hair and hugs his heat-seeking little bug tighter.
"Well, tomorrow we have a calculus test, then you have a piano lesson after school. I really didn't plan anything beyond that, but if we're going to squeeze in an epic final battle with Hawkmoth, I suppose I should work on my history project at lunch to get ahead."
"Cheeky bug!" He tickles her in retaliation, and she giggles into his chest. "I was being serious!"
"I know, Minou." She laughs for another moment but says nothing more.
He waits through one deep breath, then two, before he whispers her name, questioning, against her hair.
She cranes her neck to look up at him, her gaze shy but warm. "It's just...can I be weird?"
Ah, that explains her reticence. The delighted half-smile that crosses his face is pure Chat Noir, but he can't help it. He loves this.
"Of course, My Lady. Always."
Five months and four days ago (yes, he's counting—it was the greatest day of his life, so far), after more than three years of superhero partnership and civilian friendship, an unplanned reveal, and the awkward nine day aftermath (yes, he counted—it was awful), they'd finally made it official. Adrien and Marinette had, at least. Ladynoir was still under wraps for now to avoid suspicion, but he looked forward to the day when a real kiss they could both remember would grace the front page of the Ladyblog.
At the beginning, between blissful kisses and timid touches, they'd taken the time to really get to know each other—with no secrets between them, a whole, beautiful picture emerged. It was amazing and thrilling and freeing. It was also a bit embarrassing.
She'd seen him in his Ladybug pajamas one evening when she'd stopped by his bedroom for an unplanned visit. Another afternoon, he'd opened a drawer in her room looking for a pen and discovered approximately two dozen photos of himself looking back at him. Plagg had unceremoniously dropped Adrien's Ladybug and Chat Noir action figures onto Marinette's lap while they watched a movie and proceeded to tell her that Adrien sometimes played with his dolls and made them kiss. He'd never been so mortified in his life (and he once fought an akuma wearing a banana costume, so that was saying something), especially when Marinette had laughed until she cried.
He'd have sentenced the tiny magical agent of chaos to eating Velveeta for a week if Marinette hadn't caught her breath, removed his hands from his beet-red face, and kissed him silly.
Afterward, lovestruck, he'd asked, "So I'm not...weird?"
Cheeks still stained with the sweetest blush, eyes soft and bright and full of love, she'd responded, "Of course you are, kitty. I already knew that," and kissed him again for good measure. "It's a good thing your Lady is just as weird."
And just like that, it was okay. His pajamas, her photo collection, his action figures, her calendar.
Can I be weird? preceded his admission of being unable to sleep if his Marinette lucky charm wasn't beneath his pillow. It was asked before he learned she slept with her handmade Chat Noir plushie beside her every night.
The question is rhetorical, of course. Permission to be weird is simply indemnity from embarrassment, a solemn vow of understanding between them. It's been the lead-in to many shared secrets and it still gives him a little thrill every time, just knowing that he's about to learn another closely-held tidbit about his Lady.
Tonight, he's especially curious—the question he asked was about the future, after all.
"I used to think about it a lot," she begins quietly. "And I mean, a lot. I'm a planner, you know."
Oh, he knows. Thank goodness one of them is.
"You've seen my sketchbook. You saw my wedding dress designs and all your possible matching tuxes. Alya's dress and Nino's suit..."
"And they were beautiful, Bug. I loved them all."
He can feel her smile against his t-shirt collar.
"Thank you, Chaton. But...it's not just that. I, um...I chose the flowers for my bouquet, I planned the menu for the reception dinner—"
"And your parents will make the croquembouche," he whispers, suddenly entranced.
She nods, but goes silent once more. He wants to hear about everything—the venue she imagined for the service and reception, what they'll wear at the civil ceremony prior, whether their guests will throw rice or rose petals or wheat as they exit as newlyweds. It's all so beautiful, his heart is positively singing; how could she ever think this is weird?
"I named our children."
The song in his heart comes to an abrupt stop when the rhythm falters before restarting at hummingbird speed.
Dazed, he breathes, "Our..."
"I know!" she groans. She covers her eyes with one hand and buries her face in his shirt. Her voice is muffled, but he's hanging on every word. "I told you it was weird! I named them! I thought about who would be youngest, oldest, middle--"
"Three?" He chokes on air. Is he even breathing?
"I designed the little outfit we'd bring each of them home from the hospital in. Their nursery had a theme! Our hamster had a name! I imagined our house, our garden, the layout of the kitchen, the color of our master bathroom!"
"What color?" he asks weakly.
A pause.
"Blue."
"I love blue."
"I know."
Silence descends again, as he attempts to regulate his breathing and bring his swirling, scattered thoughts under control. She hasn't moved a muscle, and neither has he. Honestly, he's thankful to be moored to his steadfast port in the storm right now, so he can't float away or slip under.
"Adrien?"
He hums questioningly in response.
"I'm sorry." Her voice is small and tinged with sadness, slicing directly through his current bubble of overwhelmed euphoria in an instant.
Sitting up so quickly that she's dislodged from his side with a startled squeak, he pulls both of her hands between his and brings her close enough to really see her face in the shadowy moonlight.
"Why are you sorry?" he asks, baffled. "That was..." he trails off, shaking his head as he searches for the correct word, wanting to convey his feelings properly. Incredible doesn't seem like enough. Perfect, perhaps? A dream I didn't know I had until you said it, and now I want that exact thing more than I've ever wanted anything in my life?
"Crazy, I know. Selfish."
"What? No!" he exclaims, and her wide eyes snap to meet his. "Marinette, it sounds amazing!"
"Amazing?"
He lets go of her hands to gather her in a hug instead, happy to feel her arms wrap tightly around him in turn.
"Amazing," he murmurs against her hair, hoping she can hear the sincerity in his voice. "Why do you think it's selfish?"
"Because...because I never thought about what you'd want, not really. Maybe you don't want kids—"
"I want kids," he interrupts.
"Or maybe you don't like hamsters."
"Mari, I love hamsters."
She smiles against his skin. "I'm glad. I thought you'd want a cat."
"Oh, I do," he says, nodding.
"I knew it!" she laughs. "But I didn't know any of that back then. I just dreamed my own wild dreams and brought a fantasy of future you along for the ride. It wasn't fair to you." She leans back, settling her wrists over his shoulders and searching his gaze with her own. "You deserve to have a say in your own life, Adrien. For once."
A wave of stunned gratitude wells up within him and he swallows around the sudden lump in his throat. No one, not even his beloved mother, has ever extended him the courtesy of autonomy, much less apologized for not considering it in the first place. The way Marinette loves him, with a selfless, gentle kindness, is like nothing he's ever known, and it overwhelms him sometimes.
Oh, he loves her so much.
"Marinette," he says, when he's able to. "Do you want to live on a desert island with me and eat only fruit for the rest of our lives?"
She blinks, confused.
"Because that was one of my dreams," he continues. "You—well, Ladybug—me, our hamster, and a ton of fruit. Silly, right?" He shrugs. "I was a lovesick teenager. I have a feeling you know something about that, don't you, Bugaboo?" His cheeky wink and Chat Noir smirk are rewarded with the blush and giggle he'd hoped for. "My point is, I wasn't thinking about what you wanted when I daydreamed about that, and I never worried about it. You have nothing to be sorry for, Bug."
Her smile is bright even in the shadowy loft. "Thanks, Minou. Those were fun dreams."
"Were? You don't want the hamster and the blue bathroom anymore? I was just getting excited about our house and three kids."
"What do you dream about?" She asks, clearly dodging the question with one of her own.
He doesn't even have to think on it to know the answer.
"A family. Hugs. Eating dinner at a little table together. Going to the beach and seeing you in your bikini."
She snorts. "Tomcat."
"I'm only human, Mari."
"Adrien, you can purr."
"Touché."
They can only laugh. Their lives really are ridiculous.
"Princess?" He asks after they've settled into silence again. "What are their names?"
"Who?"
"Our kids."
She takes a deep, deep breath, and it feels like an eternity before she speaks. "Emma, Louis, and Hugo."
"I love them already," he breathes, imagination awhirl with scenes of bedtime stories and blanket forts and the myriad other childhood joys he only knows about from movies and tv. It's so beautiful, they're so beautiful, that he has to clench his teeth for a moment to keep from crying. "Have you drawn them?"
She nods, brow starting to furrow in concern at what must be one hell of an expression on his face.
"And their clothes? The nursery? Our kitchen?"
"Yes, I told you I was—"
"You're amazing, Marinette. I can't wait to see them. I can't wait to meet them."
Before he knows it, she's pulled him into her embrace, whispering her love against his shoulder. If a few tears escape into her hair, she doesn't say a word. They stay like that for a few long, sweet moments, until a thought pops into his mind.
"Mari? Why didn't Plagg find those drawings when he found your sketchbook of wedding ideas?"
She pulls away from him and giggles. "Because that sketchbook is hidden under the mattress."
"Along with how many of my photos?"
The mock-glare she levels at him would be terrifying if she weren't so adorable. He leans in and watches her stern expression slacken just before their lips connect and his eyes close, and her soft sigh tells him he's forgiven once more for teasing her.
They fall back against the cat pillow and soft pink sheets once more, rearranging their bodies to that perfect fit that reminds him every time how phenomenally lucky he is to have found his soul's other half as a teenager via ancient magic and fated proximity. The kiss deepens, his hands clutch at her back, and he thrills at the feel of her fingers in his hair. This is everything, everything—love and light and power and freedom, the chance for a future, a home, a family.
It's just another late autumn Tuesday night in Paris. Marinette will convince him to stay for another hour, he'll set an alarm. They'll go to school again tomorrow and, though it's certainly possible they'll defeat Hawkmoth before the day is over, it's more likely they'll simply fight and cleanse another akuma before returning to the library to work on that history project.
But it's suddenly different. He's always fought for Paris, for the safety of his friends and family, for his beloved partner. Now? A new and different feeling of protectiveness rises in his chest, even as her tongue brushes the seam of his lips and his purr rumbles gently between their bodies.
Hawkmoth will rue the day he tried to take Emma, Louis, and Hugo away before Adrien could meet them. He makes the promise right here and now, with his Lady in his arms and their kwamis sleeping on the desk below: Every akuma from now until he can punch Hawkmoth in the face and rip the misused miraculous from him, Chat Noir will fight for Paris, the world, and that shining dream of the future. He's one half of an unstoppable team. Together, they can, and will, do anything.
He and Marinette have three kids and a hamster to look forward to, after all. And it's going to be amazing.

Commissions
Day 8 is doneee!! Woot woot!! And it’s another mini reveal! I hope you guys like it! I had fun writing it. Lemme know what you think <3
AO3
“Marinette, can I ask you something really quickly?” Adrien tugged on her sleeve, stopping her before she could head outside their school.
Blinking in surprise, her brow furrowed as he looked at her almost desperately. Her eyes darted down to where he was still holding onto her sleeve before she tore her gaze back up to his eyes. Giving him a small smile, Marinette spoke, “O-of course, is something wrong?”
Adrien finally let go of her sleeve, glancing away as he rubbed at the back of his neck. After a short pause, he asked, “You do commissions, right?”
“Well, yes, b-”
Before she could clarify any further, Adrien looked at her with relief, “That’s great! I accidentally tore one of the sleeves on my suit jacket and I really need it by tomorrow! Is there a way you can do that? I can pay extra.”
Marinette’s eyes widened. That’s right! It was the Agreste Annual Ball tomorrow night. No wonder he looked so desperate. Grinning mischievously causing her blue eyes to twinkle slightly as she tapped her chin, “Hmm, I don’t know... that’s pretty soon.”
“Please, I’ll do anything, Marinette,” he begged, "My father will kill me if my outfit is ruined.”
Thoughts of asking him if he’d consider a kiss a fair exchange filled her head before she quickly shoved them down. No. She was supposed to be over him! Just because he said he’d do anything didn’t mean he actually meant it! She had finally managed to talk to him normally and she wasn’t going to mess that up!
Giggling softly, she shook her head, “It’s alright, Adrien, of course I’ll help you! I was only teasing. It'd probably be best if you come over now, though. Are you available?”
“Yes! You’re the best, Marinette!” Adrien practically shouted as he threw his arms around her.
Feeling the beginnings of a pink flush tint her cheeks, Marinette patted him on the shoulder carefully. I thought you were supposed to be over him, a corner of her mind taunted her smugly. Shut up, she scolded it back, letting herself sink into Adrien’s embrace for a few more seconds.
When they both pulled back, Adrien gestured at his limo with a small grin, “Need a lift?”
She blinked at him in confusion before tilting her head, “Don’t you have to go home to get the suit jacket first?”
“Actually...,” Adrien started, rubbing the back of his neck, “I brought it with me. It’s in my backpack.”
Marinette frowned deeply. Pursing her lips, she tsked at him, “Is it crumpled up into a ball in there? Adrien, you shouldn’t be treating good fabric like that. Besides, it could rip even further.”
He simply answered with a sheepish grin before opening the limo door for her. Sighing, she quickly slid into her seat. Turning around to face him when he sat besides her, Marinette immediately held out her hand, “Can I see the jacket?”
Adrien nodded quickly before digging through his backpack. She winced when she saw him root past a few notebooks and pencil cases to find the suit jacket at the very bottom. Marinette breathed out a slow, painful breath when she saw the state the jacket was in. Taking it from his hands carefully, she held it in her own hands gingerly.
There was a tear almost clean through the entire sleeve. Looking over at him with a quiet, amused laugh, she asked, “How did you do this? I was expecting a small cut, not a giant hole.”
“Uh, there was an akuma attack...” Adrien’s eyes darted around nervously.
Giggling at his reaction, Marinette teased, “Was he in your suit or did he just decide to cut off one portion of it?”
Adrien shrugged embarrassedly, opening his mouth to speak when the limo came to a stop. Giving her one last bashful grin, he stepped outside quickly. With a quiet chuckle, Marinette followed after him.
Together, she and Adrien both stopped to say hello to her parents before they went up to her room. With a quiet hum, Marinette spun into her desk chair and pulled out her sewing supplies. For a long while, the room was quiet. Marinette’s tongue poked out in concentration as Adrien leaned his head over to watch her work.
At first, having him watch over her was absolutely nerve-wracking. Though Marinette had sworn she had gotten over him, it was still Adrien! Every so often, his breath would brush against her cheek and she would be reminded that he was standing right next to her.
After a few, deep, calming breaths, and a couple of pricks with her sewing needle, however, Marinette turned her focus entirely on the suit jacket in front of her. Eventually, Adrien’s presence faded away into the background and became comfortable and familiar. It was much like having Chat Noir over, listening to him ooh and ahh over her latest design. With a small giggle, she remembered listening to him rant about the previous akuma while she worked on her designs.
After that, she quickly finished up the tear in Adrien’s suit jacket. Holding it up proudly, she beamed at it, “There we go! All finished, kitty. How does it look.”
Her eyes widened at what she just said. Immediately recognizing her mistake, Marinette winced. Please tell me you didn’t notice that I called you kitty, she cringed internally and shut her eyes tightly closed.
“It looks purrfect, purrincess!” Adrien purred and her eyes immediately flipped back open. She whirled around and noticed that his own eyes were wide with shock. Her mouth immediately fell open and she wheezed uncertainly, wondering if she had just dreamed this whole encounter.
T-there's no way, right, Marinette thought to herself, A-Adrien can’t be...
Stuttering slightly, she handed him the suit jacket with dark red cheeks, “H-here you go, A-Adrien.”
“Right, yes. Uh, thank you, Marinette. You just saved my life!” he immediately took it from her. He gave her a shaky, uncertain smile before asking, “S-so, how much do I owe you?”
Well, she could either go out on a limb and risk her secret identity entirely... or she could pretend that nothing happened. Taking a deep breath to fill herself with courage, Marinette spoke rather quietly, “I think you’ve paid me back plenty, kitty.”
Adrien paled and her suspicions were confirmed. It felt like she just got punched in the stomach. Adrien really was Chat Noir. This entire time they had been circling around each other. A small smile twitched at her lips as he began to stutter out excuses, “Listen, i-it’s not what you think, Marinette.”
Pushing up from her seat, she gave him a trademark Ladybug smirk. She pushed his nose back playfully as she grinned, “I’m pretty sure it’s exactly what I think, mon Chaton.”
Immediately his mouth fell open before he grabbed her wrist with his hand gently, “M-m’lady?”
“Hello, my kitty,” Marinette giggled and gave him a shy wave.
“I can’t believe I’ve actually found you!” Adrien gasped before wrapping her up in a giant hug, “I always suspected it would be you, too but after Multimouse I thought I was crazy!”
Pulling back slightly to give him a sheepish grin, Marinette murmured, “Sorry, I was trying to keep you from figuring out my identity.”
“Well, it definitely worked. I was very disappointed to learn my sweet, cute, adorable classmate wasn’t the girl of my dreams,” Adrien grinned down at her softly.
She squeaked loudly, feeling herself blush as her entire face turned red. Shifting in his arms even more, she looked him directly in the eye, “G-girl of your dreams, huh?”
Now it was Adrien’s turn to flush deeply, his eyes darting away to mutter an apology, “Sorry... I shouldn’t have said that.”
Adrien took a step back and she felt her body shiver slightly as he let go of her. Taking a deep breath to steel her nerves, Marinette rushed out, “The boy was you!”
“W-what?” He looked back at her again, but this time his eyes were filled with confusion.
“T-the boy,” she gulped, “The boy I turned Chat Noir down for... i-it was you.”
“Me?!” Adrien’s mouth gaped open, “Are you serious?!”
Marinette giggled nervously, tapping her fingers together, “K-kinda... I’ve actually been in love with you since you gave me your umbrella.”
Instead of a response back, Marinette was immediately wrapped back up in his arms as he spun her around. She squeaked faintly before he pressed his lips against hers. She melted into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck as she kissed him back. Adrien’s head tilted to deepen their kiss and she ran her fingers through his hair.
Eventually, they pulled back to suck in deep, lungfuls of air, grinning at each other. Adrien lightly placed his forehead against hers, cupping her cheeks, “Does this mean you’ll be my girlfriend, now?”
“Only if you can be my boyfriend,” Marinette beamed back at him.
Adrien threw his head back to laugh deeply before he pulled her back in for another deep kiss.

Uprooting Bindweed
Ao3
I'd had the idea of Rena and Chat talking about Marinette and Adrien in my WIP folder, and then @galahadwilder posted the perfect prompt on discord to go with it: what if Chat Noir fired Rena Rouge.
Thank you SO much to @alexseanchai and @sweetmeatdale for your feedback! 💜
Speaking of Alex, they came up with the title, because they're amazing like that. Bindweeds are used as "food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species, including the convolvulus hawk moth". With that information and the Bindweed tarot card, I knew a more perfect title would not be found.
-
The Akuma of the Week was searching for Marinette. The fourth time this month, and he was really hoping there was nothing to that. So many targeting the same person not Chloé or Lila seemed strange to him. But that was a worry for another time.
Chat Noir and Rena Rouge had been sent ahead to the bakery (he was very glad that he’d stashed Marinette somewhere else). Rena was to Mirage herself into the designer and play bait, but they had to wait until Ladybug could lure the akuma closer. Five minute timer, and all.
Rena reached her balcony first, and went to the trapdoor without hesitation. Chat figured he’d have to be the one to open it, and had been planning how to go about it without giving away how familiar he was, but Rena had no qualms. His stomach soured at the thought that he wasn’t the only superhero to visit Marinette.
She’d redecorated some since he last was in her room. He wasn’t able to come as often as he wanted, and they typically preferred the open air and view of her balcony when the weather was warm.
Adrien’s modeling photos were still present, but they’d been updated to more recent shoots. On another wall were more candid pictures. Their friends and classmates. People he assumed were Marinette’s family (only some of whom he’d met). Several of Kitty Section. Her and Jagged Stone and Penny Rolling (it still blew his mind that she’s on a first name basis with them). Lots of her and Alya and Nino. Fewer of Adrien.
He knew she had more of Chat than of Adrien. But she kept those on her phone, locked away in a secret folder. Too much chance that someone would see her walls.
One caught his eye, placed directly in the center, the spot of honor. A high res of Chat-him and Ladybug. They’d thrown their arms over each other’s shoulders and snapped half a dozen selfies. It’d been Ladybug’s idea to submit the best of them to the Ladyblog, giving civilian them plausible deniability.
The last wall, above her sewing supplies, held her inspiration boards. One for general inspiration, holding her favorite pieces from her favorite lines (only one of which was a Gabriel piece, he noted with some interest), some fabric squares of different colors and patterns, and scenic pictures from around Paris. The other, he knew, was more specific to whatever she was currently working on. Pinned to it was a handful of dried flowers, a fabric swatch to match each flower, and several sketches.
Chat glanced at Rena, realizing she’d been quiet this whole time. She was staring at Adrien’s modeling photos, the look on her face unreadable. He looked with her. He wondered if there was a specific shoot Marinette favored.
“This must look so strange to you.”
Chat looked back at her, but said nothing. He wasn’t sure what he could say that wouldn’t give away exactly how close he was to Marinette.
“I promise she’s not some weird stalker in love with a celebrity. Well. He is a celebrity and she does have the biggest crush on him.” Um. What? “But they’re actually friends. She didn’t even like him when she first met him. The—the Wall actually started because he wasn’t allowed to hang out very often, and no one could get any candids of him.”
What?!
His shock must have shown on his face. He turned back to ‘the Wall’ in an effort to hide at least some of it.
“You seriously didn’t know?” Rena said. “You’ve got to be, like, one of two people in Paris that doesn’t. I keep flopping on whether Adrien knows or not. One minute it’s like he’s encouraging her feelings, the next he’s going on about how glad he is to have such a good friend.”
Chat tried not to sputter. “How—how does ‘no candids’ turn into—” He gestured at the collage of Adriens.
“None of them were perfect.” Rena said it like she’d heard it a million times. “This photo shows his sincere eyes, but the rest of the face is photoshopped too much to be his real smile. ‘That advertisement had most of his real smile!’ ” She pitched her voice higher in mimicry. “ ‘But they shaved several centimeters off of his waist! Several! He’s skinny but he’s not that skinny can you believe they felt like they needed to change that, Rena?’ Well, she didn’t say Rena, she said my civilian name. I mean—you get it. And, oh, that outfit looks really good on him, it looks like something he’d choose to wear himself, but he looks so tired in that one. I bet that was at the end of that all-day shoot.”
(They didn’t actually shave inches off his waist. They did shave a little, but that wasn’t the point because—) He never realized that Marinette paid so much attention to him. He wanted to deny it. She’d specifically told him that she didn’t have a crush on him. And Marinette hates liars.
But. But she’d been embarrassed, that day. And she was embarrassed around him a lot. Especially when Alya was involved. It’d taken him a long time to notice that, but once he had, he saw it everywhere. And with this new piece of information…it shone a whole different light on many of their interactions.
Chat swallowed. He wasn’t sure what to do with this knowledge. He’d been in love with Ladybug for…for a long time. And Marinette. Marinette was special. Rejecting her was hard enough the first time, but at least he’d known that it’d never work between a superhero and a civilian.
Oh, Kwamis. She had a crush on Chat, too! Adding that event with this new understanding, he realized she never meant to confess to him. She’d probably been about to backtrack, but then her parents interrupted, and it was out of control from there.
What better evidence that someone truly liked you for who you were than falling for you twice and not realizing it?
Rena shuffled a bit, finding other things to poke her nose in, and Chat realized that he’d never responded.
“So, you don’t think it’s creepy that this girl has like twenty pictures of her crush on her walls?” He didn’t think it was creepy. He thought it was endearing. But he was curious what she would say. She’d been interestingly defensive of Marinette.
She snorted. “Hey, if it’s crazy, Adrien’s her same kind of crazy. He’s got more photos of Ladybug on his phone than I do, and that’s saying something.”
His brain came to a complete stop. And then worked overdrive. How the fuck did Rena Rouge know that.
She sighed, picked at her flute, and continued. “I’ve been wondering if she shouldn’t give him up, though. It’s starting to get unhealthy. Ruining her friendships in class.”
His chest tightened and it became hard to breath. Loving him was bad for her. The thought rattled around, but what she said next wiped it all away.
“There’s this girl in class, Lila. She’s an amazing person, done all these things, and has a real chance with Adrien. Marinette can’t let it go. She swore that Lila was lying, then dropped it and now just gives her the cold shoulder. Won’t go to group outings if Lila’s involved. Keeps flaking out. Avoids her completely. Lila’s trying, so hard, to keep the peace, mend bridges, and Marinette just refuses to listen.”
Rena dropped her hands, hitting her thighs, and paced. Agitated.
“It’s jealousy, pure and simple. And if she’s going to be like that, then I just don’t know if I can approve her being in a relationship. Especially with him.”
Chat felt something inside him harden. Gritted his teeth. Considered biting his tongue. He knew who this was. It’s plain as day now, and he’s mildly surprised he didn’t see it before. She’s supposed to be Marinette’s best. friend. And this was how she thought of her?
To be fair, Rena looked torn over this. Chat could see the hurt in her eyes, the worry in her bitten lower lip. The frustration in the creases of her brow. And she was telling all this to Chat, whom she only passingly knew.
But he couldn’t keep the distaste from his face. “Marinette’s right. Lila Rossi is a fucking liar. You think she’s got a real chance with Adrien Agreste? He wouldn’t touch her with my extendable baton. He only does photoshoots with her because clearly no one at Françoise Dupont knows what proper procedures for expulsion are, and that stunt Rossi pulled almost turned into Heroes Day 2.0.” He tugged down one of Adrien’s glamour shots. Marinette’s handwritten and detailed critiques ran along the edges. “From what it sounds like, Agreste would be lucky to date a girl like Marinette.”
Rena stared at Chat, stunned. “What do you know about Lila?”
He let out a short and hard laugh. “Enough. That little interview on the Ladyblog? I doubt there’s a true word in it. I mean, Ladybug’s best friend? I’m Ladybug’s best friend!”
Some of the tension released from her shoulders and she rolled her eyes. “Right. I forgot how jealous you can be, too.”
Chat growled at her. His ears flicked back, low on his head, and his tail whipped through the air agitatedly. “If you’re going to sit here and defend that manipulative bitch then you might as well take that miraculous off right now.”
Rena stepped back into a defensive stance. She was a decent fighter, but he was better. If she refused to give it over peaceably—
Something thumped on the roof. Ladybug. There was still an akuma, and that took priority. They needed to be where Ladybug expected them.
“Mirage, now.” His words were short and clipped. He pounced past her and opened up the window opposite of where the akuma would be coming from. “Follow the plan. We can talk about this later.”
The plan worked out like most of Ladybug’s plans do: perfectly. Chat’d tied the villain up in Marinette’s tarp-roof, presented with a string-of-lights bow and a flourished bow to his Lady to his Lady. She did her thing, tossed the spotted paperclip into the air, and Marinette’s balcony and room put themselves back together. The glamour shot even taped itself back on the wall.
Chat sent Ladybug a look. She gestured in a direction and he nodded. He was pretty sure he knew the roof she meant.
Rena passed by him with wariness, but he paid her no visible attention. She took off with Ladybug in the agreed direction while he turned to the akuma victim. He had a princess to protect.
“Here, let me get you down to street level,” he said. The deakumatized girl seemed hesitant to step into his arms, but relented after seeing no other way down. “Do you remember anything?”
Tears shone in her eyes for a moment, but she swiped at them and tried a smile. It didn’t work. “I—I think I’ll be okay. It’s stupid, I just…let my stress get the better of me.”
He opened his mouth, but she cut him off with a gasp. “Oh, no, Marinette! I didn’t do anything to hurt her, did I?”
“Mlle Dupain-Cheng is fine,” he hurried to reassure her, “but…do you remember why you were after her? Did she do something wrong?”
“No! No. Marinette is lovely; she’s always helping us out in the Garden Club!” The girl paused, ashamed. “I was just feeling overwhelmed and she always seems so put together, she juggles all these responsibilities…I was jealous. Like I said. Stupid.”
“Hey, hey, your feelings are not stupid. Everyone gets stressed and feels like they’re drowning at times. I bet if you asked Marinette about it, she’d say that she always feels like that.”
He remembered himself and what he had to do, and glanced upwards.
“I’m very sorry. I’d usually stay longer and make sure you’re really okay, but I have an urgent something.” He handed her one of the business cards he’d made up. It had information on a number of Akuma support groups. “I can be back in about 30 minutes if you want to wait?”
Her smile turned a little more real. She took a deep, calming breath and let it out slowly. “I think I’ll be okay,” she said again. “I’ll—that’s good advice. Talking to Marinette. Thank you, Chat Noir. For caring.”
He smiled and saluted her, then bounded off. His baton confirmed that Ladybug and Rena were still active a few rooftops over. But then he watched Rena’s signal go out and put on a burst of speed to get there in time. They weren’t on the roof, it turned out, but in the alleyway adjacent to the building.
Ladybug’s eyebrows raised in silent question when she saw him. “Sorry, Bug. This is something that needs to be done.”
Alya looked between the two. Suspicion bloomed and, with it, fear.
Pernicious cat gods, this was going to be awful.
“Alya Césaire.” Chat held his hand out. “The Miraculous. Please.”
She grasped it so hard her knuckles turned white. She took a big gulp of air and said shakily, “This feels final.”
He stared at one of his closest friends, and didn’t let himself waver.
“Your recklessness has put many in danger, including Ladybug and myself. You gave Lila Rossi a platform to speak, to spread her lies. You, who had held a miraculous before, and likely would again. Whom Ladybug had shown a partiality to in interviews and questions. You had every opportunity to check Rossi’s story.”
And, oh, he sounded exactly like his father. That grated.
“In giving her credibility, you opened several of your classmates up to her manipulations. Your best friend warned you about her lies, and you wrote it off as petty jealousy. You tried to write off what I told you as petty jealousy.”
He could kind of see how she’d come to that conclusion, assuming Marinette never told her about that cringe-worthy ice skating date and knowing that she was in love with him. (Alya said ‘crush’. Having this new option to attribute to Mari’s behavior, he knew it was more than that.)
“Furthermore, I can guarantee that at least one terrorist watches your blog. A civilian claimed to be a superhero’s best friend and you broadcast that to the world. What happens when said terrorist decides to use that?”
It was harsh, and damning. But it had to be said. She needed to understand.
Alya looked from him to Ladybug and back, then repeated the motion. “You—you can’t…” Alya’s voice broke. Her eyes settled on Ladybug, who appeared to have turned to stone, she held herself so rigidly. “He can’t do this. Right? You hand out the Miraculous; it’s your decision. Not his!”
Ladybug’s stormy eyes turned to ice. The Ladyblogger realized her mistake and opened her mouth to salvage something, anything, but Ladybug cut her off. “You, of all people, should know that Chat is my equal. He’s right. I should've…but I didn’t…” She shook her head, once. “I stand by his decisions.”
Chat released a breath he hadn’t known he was holding. Alya’s eyes grew bright with tears and she clutched the Fox Miraculous harder. She stared at them, and they stared at her, and she finally dropped it into Chat’s claws.
Ladybug’s hands fluttered in Alya’s direction. She pulled up short, though, unsure if her touch would be welcome.
“This doesn’t make you a bad person, Alya,” she said gently. “You’ve been lied to and manipulated. That’s not your fault. But, as a reporter, it’s important to consider the consequences of distributing information. Just as it is to produce evidence to back your stories.”
Alya’s hand pressed against her mouth, muffled a sob.
Ladybug hesitated, considering, and then spoke again. “You can still be a hero, Alya. Magic, the miraculous, it doesn’t make you into what you aren’t. You make you a hero. And, like I told Chloé, being a hero starts with your everyday life.”
Silence. The only sounds were the girl’s sniffling and the pounding of Chat’s heart. Even the sounds of the city muted. He had to force himself to stay still. Fidgeting felt disrespectful somehow. It was broken by Alya.
“So—so Lila was never your friend?” she asked thickly.
Ladybug’s voice was so gentle, yet cut through what the Ladyblogger had known like a knife. “No.”
Alya nodded. Wiped her eyes and tried to pull herself together. Her short gasps of breath betrayed how upset she was. “I. I think I’ve—” She swallowed. “Got some thinking to do.”
She turned to face the street, straightened her spine, and walked out. Her walk looked a little robotic to Chat, a little too forced to be her normal. She barely made it ten meters before Chat heard Nino call out to her.
Good, he thought, deflating a little. Nino will protect her.
His priority was his Lady.
“Well, it looks like you finally joined me in getting past the time limitation.” His attempt at lightening the mood fell flat even to him.
Ladybug didn’t respond at all. She took a big, shuddering breath.
“Oh, Bug…” Chat was quick to wrap his arms around her, and gently pull her head to rest on his shoulder. He coaxed her into a shuffle-walk until his back met the dirty alley wall, the heel of the hand that still held the Fox necklace rubbing up and down and across her back. “I’m so sorry.”
She shook her head back and forth; his claws tangled further in her hair. He tried not to listen to her quiet tears. He drowned out the sound of Nino and Alya moving on. The cars on the street. Instead he looked for the delicate and distinct sound of an akuma’s wings. She deserved a moment to mourn without worry.
Ladybug took a deep breath.
“You were right.” Her voice sounded wet. “Her blog affects many, and we were probably the only ones she was going to listen to.
“Actions…actions have to have consequences. Alya wasn’t seeing them, and—and maybe we shouldn’t be judge, jury, and executioner, but—the longer this goes on the worse they’ll become.”
Neither of them moved. He continued to find no evil bugs. Or feathers, but they usually went weeks in between Mayura sightings.
A gentle wind blew. They were having a round of good weather. Sunny days that were just warm enough to make the breeze feel perfect. He was hoping it’d hold through the weekend.
Ladybug pulled away to wipe her eyes. He fumbled a folded black handkerchief with green embroidery into her hands and she shot him a grateful, if watery, smile. “Thank you. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Oh, that just warmed him down to his toes. And emboldened him to push a little more. “Hey, I was wondering, would you mind saying that bit about me being right again? Because I could listen to that all day—”
He internally cheered as his partner huffed out a laugh and rolled her eyes. “Careful, kitty. I can see your head getting bigger by the second.”
She returned fire!
Mission accomplished.
.
That meant it was time to go, he guessed.
.
Chat stood there a moment longer. Contemplative.
“What are you thinking about, minou?”
He turned to her with a small smile, trying to hold it back and mostly failing. She crinkled a smile in return and raised an eyebrow.
“I’m going to get me a girlfriend.”
He said it so resolutely, so surely, so smugly, that she couldn’t help but laugh. “You are, are you?”
He nodded. His smile spread to full blown glee. “If she’ll have me. Rena said something while we waited, and it just made me think. There’s this girl, LB, and fuck is she amazing. She’s been waiting for me for the better part of two years, and I just realized that I’m crushing on her. Hard. I don’t even know when it started.”
He sighed, happy. “I’m going to ask her out. Tomorrow. And pray to the kwamis that she gives me one last chance.”
(Adrien didn’t ask Marinette out the next day, because Alya looked awful and he figured she needed the support. He’d count himself lucky if she didn’t get akumatized over this, and would attribute the entirety of that luck to his princess. He did invite her to lunch the day after that—he’d thought it’d be more difficult than it was, but Alya was already leading Rose off to a quiet corner—where he managed a stuttered and stilted confession. He honestly had no idea how Marinette managed to understand it, but she must have because she gave an enthusiastic “Yes!” and the next thing he knew they were making plans to explore the city together on Saturday.)

It's the job of the Black Cat to recognize when something’s not working, and to get rid of it. Destruction is necessary for Creation to truly thrive. And, sometimes, that means destroying what Creation loves. But, sometimes, the thing Creation loves is the vine that's choking her.
(Or enables the vine that’s choking her.)

Cat Crossing
When Marinette gave out her code to let people onto her Animal Crossing Island, Chat Noir was the last person she expected to pay her a visit.
Hello and welcome to this surprise one shot! I wrote this as a slightly late present for my good friend @sweetsweetsweetie! She is a phenomenal artist and you can find her work on tumblr and instagram.
This was also written as a collab between me and another friend of mine, @lesslinette! They made a great piece of art for this fic, which I'll add here as soon as it is posted.
Enjoy!
Read on Ao3
It was late.
Marinette really should be sleeping right now, but…
Just a few more tweaks and her village would be perfect. Her favorite villagers. Many of them wearing clothes she’d personally made - she was as much a designer in Animal Crossing as she was in the real world. It’d taken a while to get the lamp posts she wanted too, but now that they were here…
She was ready. After opening up the airport on her island and getting her dodo code, she put her switch to the side and typed the code into the group chat. It didn’t get used much - mostly just Nino sharing memes with the rest of them, or attempts to get everyone together to hang out. Attempts which almost always ended in failure, thanks to Adrien’s strict schedule and even stricter father.
Adrien…
He was the only other person in the gang that even had a switch, which is what gave her the idea for this in the first place. While it was hard for them to hang out in the real world, she was sure they could squeeze in some time together online.
Marinette could picture it now. He arrives, amazed at her village. They hang out together, growing closer every day. Friendship turns to dating and dating turns to marriage. Twenty years down the line they can tell the story about how they got together because of a video game and Marinette’s excellent village-building skills.
But in the present day, it was three in the morning. With the switch turned off, the long delayed exhaustion hit all at once. Dreams of the married life with the boy of her dreams danced in her head as she fell asleep.
------------
A few days passed. Everyone had seen the message she’d sent on the chat, but it was quickly buried under a torrent of memes, pushing it out of sight and out of mind. She opened the airport and sent out the code one more time, but it was a faint hope.
Her dreams - the friendship, the dating, the marriage - turned to ashes, but at least she still had her village to keep her busy. So busy, in fact, that without even realizing it, she had ended up playing until into the late hours of the night once again.
The groove she’d worked herself into was rudely thrown off when a cutscene began playing, interrupting her fishing. A plane was gently cruising into her airport.
Marinette read the text that showed up and spoke out loud, “Chat Noir, Carefree Animal from Purr-adise has arrived on your island?”
That couldn’t be right. She sat up, suddenly alert. True, she and Chat Noir weren’t exactly strangers - he shows up on her balcony sometimes during his patrol. He at least knew her name. But what was he doing on her island? Assuming it was even actually Chat Noir.
Her curiosity sparked, she made her way to the airport.
Sure enough, whoever they were had gone the full distance. They’d made their own outfit modeled after the feline hero of Paris - black with the accents all in the right places. No cat ears or tail, but they did manage to get a black hero mask. Between that and the messy hair and green eyes, it was about as close as someone could get to his iconic outfit.
The rose in the mouth, though - that was what really convinced her that this was none other than Chat Noir. If she had any doubts after that, the moment the speech bubble appeared over his head quieted them.
“Aw, princess! Came to see me off the airplane? ;3”
Huffing, Marinette quickly typed out a response. “How did you get here Chat.”
“Plane.”
“I mean it!”
“Oooh, pretty island!”
And just like that, Chat Noir had bolted away, an entirely new type of cat boy loose in her village. Although one thing she learned after a few minutes of running after him - there wasn’t a lot of mischief he could actually get into.
After standing still for a few moments, Chat Noir said, “...want to be best friends?”
“So you can tear up my island? Hard pass.”
“Nooo come on, plz? I’ll be a good kitty I purromise.”
“No. But because of that pun? Definitely no.”
“Then I will become a Menace. >:3”
“You do you Chat. I’m going back to fishing.”
Fishing in games was always relaxing for Marinette. Her mind could wander while she listened to the gentle music of the game, all the while slowly building up a pile of fish she could sell off. It was a nice way to unwind after the stress of tests or akuma battles.
Usually.
Those times, she didn’t have an annoying cat boy visitor running into the water, screaming “RUN AWAY FISHY FRIENDS!”
“CHAT.”
His only response was to slowly run into her, gently pushing her away from the water.
“I am FISHING. Go hang out somewhere else.”
“Where the princess goes I must follow.”
“Ugh fine.”
Figuring that fishing was out now, she wandered away to find something else to do. Although it was a little annoying, she had to admit it was nice having him on the island. It was a nice little ego boost to see him ooh and ahh at her village as he followed behind her. And the presence of another person made things feel a little less repetitive.
Of course, that goodwill quickly flew out the window once she tried to pick something up, only for Chat’s net to bonk her on the head.
She silently turned her character towards him, pretending that she was glaring at him despite the unchanging smile on her character’s face saying otherwise. After a few good long seconds she tried again.
BONK.
“aksfvjJKHDFBVJHGB,” she keyboard smashed.
“:3”
He kept following her as she went to a little picnic area. After all, if she wasn’t going to be able to get anything done, she may as well lounge in style.
“How did you even get here?! Seriously! I only gave my code away to”
Her eyes widened and she hit send accidentally. Their characters stood looking at each other for long minutes.
Only three people. Chat wasn’t Nino and he definitely wasn’t Alya. Which just left…
“...Adrien?”
Another moment passed in silence.
Chat Noir has disconnected.
Marinette stared blankly at the spot that Chat’s- Adrien’s character had just been standing.
After all the close calls and the near misses and all that they’d done to keep their identities a secret… Chat Noir blows it in under an hour because he wanted to tease her in the virtual world. Marinette wanted to be mad at him, but all she could do was laugh. It was just such a perfectly Chat Noir way to mess it up. What else could she do?
Her eyes gleamed with mischief. School tomorrow was going to be fun.

30. Rose
Chat was down on one knee, a palm placed right on top of his heart, and presenting something red to her.
A rose. It was something she hasn’t seen much ever since the final battle, minus the time of the reveal because that was special, but it really has been a while since he last held out a red rose to her.
And he was down on one knee in a very public area. Parisians were watching.
“Chaton, what are you doing!” She spoke through gritted teeth, which just made her seem like she’s smiling with her white teeth.
“A display of affection!” A shit-eating grin sat on his handsome face.
Ladybug made a noise. “I can see that! And it’s very sweet of you, but right here?!” she yelled in a whisper.
“I think Parisians need an update that we’re officially together meow.” His smile grew wider.
And she finally caught on. It has been at least 6 months since she proposed her stupid idea of patrolling around when they were actually dating. But ever since they’ve gotten together, they patrolled, really patrolled, around Paris.
So an update they’ll give. Ladybug walked over to Chat and took the rose from his hand to give it a long sniff. Chat stood from the ground and waited until she’s done before wrapping his arms around her waist, drawing her closer. Ladybug giggled and snaked her arms around his neck, pressing her lips onto his. They heard the crowd around them cheering before they could get lost in the kiss.
They pulled back slightly, still looking at each other adoringly before they directed their attention to the crowd. Sure enough, phones can be seen in their hands. With pink cheeks, they posed for a few photos and said their thank-yous in response to their blessings. Ladybug and Chat Noir then made their way, hand in hand, to a nearby rooftop.
“You think that’ll bring an interview our way, my lady?”
“It’s Alya, Chaton. Once she catches wind of this, of course she will,” she ran her hand up their once-connected hold to his chin to scratch. “Her LadyNoir ship has finally sailed after all.”
“Our superhero ship name, huh?” He fluttered his eyes close, really enjoying it when she does that.
Ladybug stopped her ministrations gradually. “Mon Chaton, what’s the real reason for giving me a rose?”
Chat opened his eyes and smiled sheepishly. “I realised I haven’t given you anything ever since we became official, as our civilian selves.”
“A romantic at heart, huh?” She flicked his bell. “Thank you.”
He twinkled and placed a kiss on her knuckles. “Anything for you, my lady.”
They made their way home after patrolling around for a while longer, and Ladybug de-transformed the moment the balls of her feet touched the floor. She gave Chat a quick kiss on the cheek before finding a suitable vase for the rose. A soft look reserved only for her sat on Adrien’s face as his eyes lingered on Marinette before she disappeared around the corner.
Marinette exited the kitchen with a cup of tea in her hands when she suddenly came to a halt. Adrien was down on one knee again, but this time, instead of a single rose, he held out a bouquet to her.
“Adrien?”
“Yes, my love?” His eyes were shining.
She blushed at the endearment. “Why am I receiving something from you again?”
“Can’t I shower my lady with gifts?” His pupils were dilated.
“You can, you absolutely can.” She placed her cup down on a nearby table and went to help him up before taking the bouquet from him. “And I’m not complaining.”
Marinette hugged the bouquet and brought it to her face before lifting her head, a smile on her face. “Thank you again, Adrien.”
Adrien leaned in to kiss her cheek. “I’m glad you like it, Marinette. Red suits you really well.”
“It’s really lovely.” Her cheeks bloomed and she sniffed it once again. “So… what's the reason?”
He brought a hand to his chest.  “My lady, can’t I give you anything without you assuming I’ve an ulterior motive?”
She tilted her head.
“I can't hide anything from you huh?”
She gave him a sly smirk.
He released a short breath of laughter. “I would like to take you out on a date, as Adrien and Marinette.”
Her smirk turned into one of surprise. “Wow, I wasn’t expecting that.”
It was his turn to be smug.
“Is this for an event or?”
“Just the two of us having dinner together.”
Marinette looked at the clock. “It’s not today, is it?”
“My lady, I would never.” He placed his hand on the small of her back to pull her in. “I know how important it is for you to have enough time to prepare.”
“Adrien! The flowers!” Her lips curved downwards as their bodies squashed the bouquet a little.
He chuckled, picking the bouquet from her arms and settling it down on the table where her cup sat before his arms rounded her waist, peering at her earnestly. “Is that a no?”
Marinette pulled him down for a kiss before smiling. “It’s a yes. Of course it’s a yes, you silly kitty.”
.
A day had passed since Adrien told her about the dinner date, and Marinette was currently in her home choosing the perfect outfit to wear for it. It’s her dream to date openly with her kitty, masks off. And now that she’s finally going out on a date with Adrien, she had to look her best for this special occasion.
The problem was, she had no idea which outfit was suitable for the date.
“Chaton, what will you be wearing for the date?”
Adrien was currently sitting on her bed admiring her vast creations of apparel as she dug through her wardrobe.
“Why, just a normal suit you’ll wear for dinner,” he smiled, knowing exactly what her dilemma was.
“Not very helpful, Chaton.” Her voice was muffled as she had the top half of her body shoved into the wardrobe to dig deeper. “Have you seen anything suitable from those on the bed?”
“I think any one of them is perfect, my lady,” the smugness on his face grew larger by the second.
“Chaton!” She whipped around and stomped her foot. “I really need some advice here.”
She’s so endearing even when she’s angry, can he get any luckier? “And I’m giving you legitimate advice, anything here is stunning.”
Marinette made a strangled noise. “Okay, fine then. Where are we eating?”
“It’s a secret, Buguinette,” he winked.
“Adrieeen!” She whined. “Okay, okay, calm down Marinette. Just think logically. Your boyfriend loves spoiling you, so it’s reasonable to think he’ll bring you to a nice and classy restaurant…”
She glimpsed at him, and he just smiled.
Marinette groaned. “As dreamy as you are with that smile, it’s not really helping me with my predicament here.”
“Marinette, it’s like I said earlier, any—”
“—one of them is fine,” she finished his sentence. “Yeah yeah, I’m painfully aware.”
She activated her kitty eyes. “May I know the colour of your suit at least? Please, Chaton?”
Adrien was offended. How dare she use his own weapon against him. And it worked so well. It’s no wonder Marinette can never say no.
“N-N—”
“Pleaseee!” She made herself look even cuter than before.
Man, it sucked to be the receiving end of it.
“Oh alright,” he gave up, “I’m wearing black.”
He was tackled onto her bed in an instance. “Yay! Thank you, Chaton! Now I can narrow down the number of outfits to choose from!” She flashed him a genuine smile.
Maybe he should’ve just let loose some facts earlier. Her happiness is his dopamine.
.
They walked through a hotel to get to the restaurant Adrien had in mind. Marinette still had no idea which one it was, but she was definitely right on him wanting to spoil her.
The walk was a long one, but she couldn’t find herself complaining. With no one else around but themselves, it indeed felt like they were in their own mini-world. Their hands were clasped together tightly, with Adrien rubbing his thumb soothingly on the back of her hand. Marinette had never admitted it but she really loved it and found it comforting when Adrien ran circles on her skin. She almost wanted to just push him into a corner and make out for a while given how private the moment felt.
But Adrien’s hand was starting to get clammy for some unknown reason, and she was about to call out to him when they suddenly stopped in front of a square mirror.
They looked so adorable together Marinette honestly wanted to snap a few pictures and keep them as cherished memories. It was their first after all. But before she did that, she directed her attention towards him to wait on him, except he was already looking at her.
“I would like to share a picture of us on my account?”
Oh.
His forehead had beads of sweat. And his hands were still damp.
Oh.
“I don’t see why not?” She dug her purse for something. “My face’s already on your account, no?”
“You are, and the public has been very accepting of our relationship as of late.”
She brought tissues to his face. “Then why are you sweating so much?”
Adrien let her dab the sweat off his face. “I was worried you’ll see it as me trying to give you exposure through my account.”
“Well, seeing that you said any outfit of mine was stunning enough, isn’t it?” She smiled.
He winced when she acknowledged it. Yet, she kept smiling.
“But…?”
“It’s your account,” she booped his nose with her finger. “You decide what goes on it.”
Relief flashed across his face.
“Besides, there’s only so much I can do to get my designs out there.”
“So—”
“Yes, I don’t mind it. And I really really want to keep memories of this night.” She turned both of them towards the mirror. “Just look at us! We look so cute together!”
Adrien laughed as he stepped behind her to wrap his arms around her waist. “As my lady wishes.”
Marinette took out her phone, getting ready to take a few photos. Her hand enclosed his as Adrien bent a little to kiss her temple, and she captured the image of them in the mirror.
She swiped through to find the one which had them both looking the best. “How’s this for your account?”
“You look gorgeous,” he breathed as he placed another kiss on her cheek.
“And you look charming,” she giggled. “Now let’s take cute and silly pictures together!”
Marinette escaped from his arms to stand beside him and posed.
He chuckled. “Buguinette? Our dinner?”
“Yes, I’m hungry too. So hurry up!”
31. Pound it
“Buguinette,” Chat called out.
“Chaton,” Ladybug replied.
He smiled at her attempt to be kittenish.
“The interview with your friend Alya is this Friday,” he detailed.
And she confirmed. “Indeed it is.”
“And I was thinking…” he drawled.
“And you were thinking…” she rephrased.
“Can you formally introduce Alya to me?”
Ladybug blinked in surprise before her smile returned.
“You want to get to know my friends,” she stated.
He nodded. “Indeed I do.”
“I can do that. But…” she hummed.
“But?”
“Why don’t we go on a double date with Alya and Nino?”
Chat tilted his head. “Nino?”
“Alya’s boyfriend and my childhood friend!” She puffed her chest proudly. “I’ve a feeling you’ll be best buds!”
Ladybug suddenly had her back flat on the rooftop, a certain cat had tackled her into lying down and he was rubbing his cheek against hers.
“Thank you, my lady! Thank you!”
She patted his head. “Of course, mon Chaton.”
Chat let her go and hovered above her.
Ladybug brought her hand to his cheek. “Your eyes are sparkling.”
“Of course they are!” He grabbed her wrist and smiled. “I’ll have two new friends at the end of the double date! Two!”
“You so sure,” she chuckled.
He kissed her palm. “They must be as awesome as you are, so yes.”
“Well then, we better finish up with patrol soon!” Ladybug pushed herself up. “So that I can call Alya as soon as we arrive home!”
.
They had collectively decided on a game night at the Agreste mansion. And since Adrien didn’t have the dancing video game Alya and Nino love playing, Alya will be bringing that game over so that they can all play together.
Adrien and Marinette were in charge of providing dinner for them all, and Alya had suggested ordering some delivery. Adrien, aiming to be a good host, wanted to cook but Marinette assured him that calling for delivery would suffice.
Now that preparations for the game night were done, all they had to do was wait for their friends’ arrival. Still, they were taking a while to get here, since it’s a workday after all. Marinette suggested playing some video games to pass time, and they were back in his room again.
Maybe they got bored of playing the same video games. Maybe they got tired of waiting for their friends and were beginning to get restless at their tardiness. Whatever it was, Adrien and Marinette were currently making out on his bed. Their hands grabbed any body part they could get hold of, and their lips wet from all the kissing and biting.
It had started out like any other kiss they had had, until Adrien got cheekier and started nibbling on her lower lip. The mewls she let loose spurred him on and he bit down and pulled. Marinette moaned and released her hold on his neck. Her brows furrowed as he caressed her cheek and tasted his lips, a smirk sitting on his face; warmth burst forth within his chest at what he was able to do to her. She pushed him onto his back to straddle him, her fingers sprawled and glided across his chest, shoulders and neck, before reaching up to play with his hair. Marinette leaned towards his face, leaving butterfly kisses on his forehead, nose, lips, chin, jaw, and finally stopping at his ear. She started licking and grazing her teeth on his ear, giving it a nibble before moving down to his pulse to suck.
Adrien was quick to grab her face and brought her lips back to his before she could leave a mark.
“We’ll have guests over soon, Marinette,” he breathed over her lips.
“You didn’t seem to have that in mind when you bit my lips, Adrien,” she growled and gripped his hair hard. Adrien groaned and Marinette’s tongue traced over his lips before sliding into his mouth. It felt around, eager to roam and discover each and every corner it could reach. Adrien breathlessly drank her onslaught, enjoying her strawberry flavoured lips and the thrill that was coursing through his being. He hummed as his hands clutched onto her hips as tightly as they could, and she licked his lips once more before biting down on his lower lips to pull and suck.
Adrien moaned in approval and Marinette smirked at his reaction. When he finally realised what he had just done, he opened his eyes to see his lover’s face full of smugness. But it didn’t last long as she was flipped onto her back.
“Two can play this game, Marinette,” he grunted and devoured her lips. His hand interlaced with hers, bringing them above her head while the other caressed her cheek. Marinette felt herself trembling and whimpering as he continued to kiss her vehemently and his hands caressed her body as it went down her neck, down the side of her chest, down her waist before travelling under her shirt to brush her ribs tenderly. Adrien’s mouth ghosted over her burning cheek to the side of her face and nipped her ear. She gasped and Adrien pressed his body into hers harder. Marinette felt hot all over, she wrapped her legs around his hips and twisted her core to sit on top of him once again. She wasted no time and went straight for his neck. The desire to one-up each other continued for who knows how long until Marinette’s phone rang.
They sprang apart for Marinette to answer her phone.
“Marinette? Are you not home? We’ve been ringing the bell for over a minute now,” came Alya’s voice.
Marinette was horrified, they got so carried away that they didn’t even realise the doorbell had been ringing that long.
She swallowed hard. “O-Oh! We must’ve f-fallen asleep or something! We’re coming to get you now!”
Hastily, she hung up and pulled Adrien out of the room, almost falling in the process. “It’s Alya! T-They're here!”
Adrien’s eyes grew to the size of saucers and they ran to the front door.
“Uhh,” Nino started, “are we interrupting somethi—”
“No,” Marinette answered before Nino could finish his sentence.
Alya snickered and snapped a photo.
Their hair was a mess, they had their cheeks ablaze, and lips red and swollen. Fierce red marks can be seen on their skins as well.
“Look!” Alya shoved her phone into Marinette’s face.
“I know how I look, don’t show me that,” she covered the screen with her hands and turned around. “Come on in.”
Alya looked at Adrien and smirked. “Don’t worry, Sunshine. I’ll send it to you later.”
Adrien crimsoned.
Marinette showed her friends where the game night would take place before heading to another toilet to tidy up. Adrien used the toilet in his room.
Both of them returned to the room, only to have Alya and Nino challenge them to a showdown.
Marinette knew Alya and Nino have been totally in sync ever since they got together. She wasn’t as surprised about their score as Adrien was; he was really impressed.
When it was their turn, Adrien stood and offered his hand to her. Marinette chuckled and took his hand, moving to the play area hand in hand.
Alya and Nino were shocked that they got a near-perfect score. After their ‘workout’, the four of them sat on the sofa and enjoyed their dinner.
“My little sis has finally found the one,” Nino wiped fake tears away. “Adrien, you’re a mec!”
Adrien beamed at the nickname Nino had given him, and Alya was really glad that Nino liked Adrien enough to call him ‘Mec’.
“Nino look!” Alya showed him the picture Adrien had of them on his account. “Aren’t they adorable?”
“Oh! Marinette, you finally gave him that scarf huh?” Marinette nodded. “See, there's nothing to worry about, Adrien looked like he really loved it, don’t you mec?”
Adrien’s smile faltered a bit, but he nodded nonetheless.
“Nino!” Alya whacked his forearm. “He’s not supposed to know that!” she whispered harshly.
“You’re worried that I wouldn’t like it?” Adrien looked at Marinette. Alya just smacked her forehead and Nino slapped his hand on his mouth.
“Uhh, yeah…” she admitted. “Honestly this was a huge gamble for me because I really didn’t know if scarves are even your kinda stuff.”
She held his hand. “But I’m glad you like it! Your reactions when you first saw it will forever be carved in my memory. And when I saw that you wore it on our first public date, I almost cried,” she laughed a bit.
Adrien placed his hand on the back of her head to bring her towards him, and he pressed his lips to her forehead. “I love it, Marinette, please don’t doubt yourself.” Then he whispered. “I hardly receive things from anyone, so really, I’m delighted I could even get anything from you.”
Marinette gawked at him and tackled. “You’ll be receiving tons from me from now on.”
Alya crossed her arms. “Mhm,” and nodded, “sickeningly sweet.”
“Man, you’re not wrong. I could really get diabetes from this,” Nino acknowledged.
Adrien sat up and Marinette let go of him, both had rosy cheeks, but they were still looking at each other.
“And has anyone scouted you yet, Marinette?” Nino waved to get her attention. “You said something about giving Adrien tons of gifts?”
“Shit. I totally forgot about updating you guys,” she scratched the back of her head. “There was a number and I’ve been discussing with Adrien to see which one is the most suitable before I reply to them.”
Adrien was gleaming and Alya and Nino were frowning but they just looked constipated because they were also delighted by the news she just dropped. And they spent the rest of the night congratulating Marinette and enjoying themselves: playing, eating, and talking.
And Adrien got two new friends.
.
The livestream of the Ladyblog had already started when Ladybug and Chat Noir suddenly dropped down onto the seats reserved for them.
“So you guys were making out and lost track of time?” Alya shot them knowing looks.
Ladybug and Chat Noir regarded each other and saw that their lips were redder than usual. Their cheeks were flaming and their hair was messier as well. They scarlet even more than Alya thought possible.
So much for looking prim and proper.
“Anyway, has my LadyNoir ship finally sailed?”
“If this,” Ladybug signalled to the both of them, “isn’t enough proof then I don’t know what else to tell you, Alya.”
Alya addressed the livestream once again. “Well, there you have it, folks! They’re official now!”
Ladybug beamed. “Wait, that’s it?”
“Wouldn’t you like that?” The sly smirk from before came back onto Alya’s face.
Her cheeks blazed and Chat took Ladybug’s hand to hold and caress, throwing her soft and loving gazes. “My lady.”
Ladybug smiled, remembering that they were in this together. “Alright, any questions you and the viewers of Ladyblog have, we’ll answer them.”
“Well, it was really beautiful to see your relationship grow from your first day till now,” Alya praised. “So, any plans to get married?”
Ladybug chuckled while Chat smiled broadly and answered. “That’s the plan, isn’t it?”
“You hear that, viewers?” Alya squealed. “We’re going to have a miraculous wedding!”
She turned her attention back to them. “Any dates in mind?”
“That’s for us to decide and for you to find out in due time,” Ladybug returned.
Alya’s eyes glowed. “So we’re invited?”
Chat spoke this time. “We’ll see, Alya. We’ll see.”
“You guys are being vague here, is it a yes or a no?” She furrowed her brows.
“Thank you for your service all this while, Alya,” Ladybug added and gave her the best smile she could offer before clapping her hands. “Next question!”
They landed on the top of the Louvre Museum and made themselves comfortable, the interview playing on her bug phone.
“The comment section seems very ecstatic for us,” she grinned.
“I mean, didn’t you see, my lady? We’re ‘so cute together’, we’re ‘couple goals’,” Chat scrolled through the comments and twinkled. “I think they really are.”
“Bien joué ?” Ladybug smiled and brought her fist towards him.
He connected his fist with hers. “Bien joué !”
Chat saw her smirk, but it still didn’t prepare him for Ladybug’s unprompted endearment. He froze for a second before cupping her cheek and deepening the kiss.
.
The next day, a picture of their kiss on top of the Louvre Museum was submitted by an anonymous user to the Ladyblog, and it was the first thing one would see when they accessed the site. Ladybug and Chat Noir were extremely pleased that it was a very flattering image of them both, and they made absolutely sure to download the image for themselves, a reminder of how far they’ve come together.

My Reaction and Thoughts to Monster Fu!
Spoilers below the cut! I'm going to be upfront and say that I saw the really dramatic promo that was shown during the episode, before I actually saw the episode. I waited to watch with subs. And well, I don't know if that made me feel underwhelmed as a result or what. But honestly, I'm thankful for it because I didn't scream or freak out once, which is a new record for me with a new episode. And I think it'll help ease me into S4 where I know I'm going to be screaming a lot lol
Okay, the rule where the Kwami should not be kept out in the open. I see why, they're almost like toddlers that don't listen to orders and cause trouble! Which is cute and adorable (and would make for some excellent content) but since our poor Marinette's been dealing with a lot, maybe keeping them around isn't the best idea. She should definitely follow that rule, at least somewhat. All the others... nah. I may be out of the ordinary as I know a lot of people were mad about seeing Master Fu returning already, but I'm so happy to see him again and get a feel of what his life is like now that his 170+ years of hard work are over. And let's not forget, Wayzz being so desperate to see him and possibly be touched by him, he's crawling around like an actual turtle. Like. That's his friend of almost 2 centuries. Gone just like that without a proper goodbye. Their bond is something we'll probably never fully grasp but that scene made me aww. Su Han totally panicking when he thought Plagg was missing 😂We sometimes forget that Plagg's super dangerous behind that cheesy smile and sense of humor. I love how everything's super chill with their discussion until Chat Noir hears that if they give up their Miraculous, Ladybug will forget him (and everything else for that matter. Yikes.) Then he's ready to fight until the death! That's my kitty. Gotta protect his lady! And Chat Noir being so encouraging is everything. Nobody can make her feel like she's worthy and can do anything but him. But this might be why I feel like the episode was a bit underwhelming for me. The only characters we see are Marinette/Ladybug, Chat Noir, Su Han, Master Fu, Marianne, Shadow Moth and the Kwamis. And a lot of conversation. Which is great! This was very important stuff for the storyline and it worked out great (more on that later in the post). It just didn't have any focus on her life outside her Guardian/Ladybug duties. Which we know will be covered plenty later, so it's fine! Okay Su Han, just go up to your former student who you see is a very old man now who has no memories and steal his cane and push him down by doing so. That's being a good human. Good job. :/ Also what is Master Fu hiding in that cane?? Hmmmm. I have a feeling Ladybug and Chat Noir will be in serious need of Su Han's ability to fend off akumas. If not during Hawk Moth/ Shadow Moth's reign, but his successor. Hopefully they'll actually end up learning it from him! Even without any memories except those he made after his memories were wiped or Miraculous to help him, Master Fu will not sit back and take someone trying to steal and harm him or Marianne. x3 Master Fu's a really cool guy without all the burden weighing him down, don't you think? (Seeing the difference of pre-S3 Fu to S4 Fu has me so worried for our poor Marinette, not gonna lie ;-;) Su Han's afraid of akumatized Fu. And lost against Ladybug and Chat Noir. Then just stands back and watches them fight while calling things out to them like... dude. I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed that her new design isn't going to be a fully permanent thing, but I'm really glad that we'll be getting it whenever she uses Lucky Charm, so at least once an episode! I feel like this was a way to give us something new without taking away her OG look as not to upset those fans, but also works as a way to test out what our opinions are of it so that it could become what she wears later. And really excited too to see how the new outfit came about, and if Chat's going to end up with one every time he uses Cataclysm. Though, when it comes to Chat's Cataclysm, that tends not to last around long like a Lucky Charm so it may not happen, realistically. :c Guess we'll see! Marinanne helping them defeat Monster Fu and doing the pound-it with them was so great. And these new charms that she gives akuma victims, pretty excited to see how that came about and then later obviously how they work exactly! Now that screenshot of a charm being handed over (probably by the new Queen Bee) makes a lot more sense. I really appreciate how in
the end Su Han got to really observe Marinette as Ladybug and the Guardian. He noticed qualities in her that Master Fu did and appreciates them and is realizing that unless she proves herself unworthy, she deserves to be the one to keep them safe. Very cool of him, I think. It wasn't a "everything's okay in the end, yay!" kind of ending, but a "I trust you enough with all this responsibility, which goes against every rule I've ever known and all my training, so don't let me down or there will be consequences." type ending. A bit different than a typical ending of an episode, I think! I also really like how he wants to stick around Paris awhile, hopefully he'll get to know Marinette more and can be that someone she can come to about things so she doesn't feel so totally alone. Like, I hope they build up a bond because I think that'd be so wholesome. And I appreciate that he wants to learn about this new modern world, he's been away from the world since the later 1800s! Must be a huge and probably scary change for him. Not to mention, I love how Marinette's willing to help him modernize so he blends in and gave him some brand new modern shoes. 😂 I'm hoping that now that it's out of the way when it comes to the Guardians from the temple worrying about the Miracle Box, that's one less thing on Marinette's shoulders to worry about. Not to mention, gives her more confidence in herself that even Su Han is allowing her to keep it! I only got to see the episode with subs once before it was removed (thank you to the two of you who linked it for me, I caught it just in time!) so I may have missed some details because of it. But I'm really looking forward to what's ahead (or well, behind chronologically?) to find out what led up to some of these new changes! Like what exactly prompted her to cover her windows. Maybe it was a certain sneaky cat since the Kwamis are hanging around now and well, they can't be photographed by anybody else that may look in and see them 4 floors up. Or maybe that's just me hoping for more Marichat content. I guess that's one of the many little details that could be interesting to learn about!

Standing Up. Chapter 1: Alya
Starting this off with saying, first and foremost; please take it easy on me, this is my first fic since 2004...second; I have read a LOT of Miraculous salt, and honestly I am just really tired of Alya being made into a racist caricature in all saltfics that I read, and I wanted to do something that seemed believable. This is intended to be a oneshot with an open ending, but...it has the potential to become more if people want to see a real resolution. UPDATE: This work will be continued as a 10 part story, and can now also be found on AO3!
When it came to matters of the heart, Marinette Dupain-Cheng was not well versed, after all, she had just begun to learn what it was like to fall in love...and all of the intense feelings that came with it. Being new to the age of fourteen was strange in and of itself, but it had come with a lot of new hormones and feelings to process as a result of those hormones...and right now, she was feeling a lot of heartbreak...but living in a city with an emotional terrorist had given her certain limitations, and thus eradicated the ability for her to have a healthy way to get over the intensity of the heartbreak that she felt...so she turned to new, and very welcome distractions, such as throwing herself entirely into her hobby of designing, and planning out sketches for her future designs.
It wasn’t much, but it was all that she felt comfortable with, it made her feel at ease from the pain of wondering if she had made the right choice when she confronted Hawkmoth at the end...many questions had lingered on her mind, should she have chosen Chloe over Kagami? Chloe was calling out to her...and the choice she had made...was it really pragmatic, or was she thinking with her heart instead of her head? Yes, Kagami had picked up on things rather quickly...but when she pondered it afterward, she couldn’t see anything aside from the mistake she’d made...if she had chosen Chloe, then they wouldn’t have had to face Miracle Queen...but the more she thought about it...facing Miracle Queen was the best possible outcome. She still would have forgotten to change back, due to Mayura’s distraction, and if Miracle Queen hadn’t acted like such a pompous brat, then Hawkmoth definitely would have kept all of the Miraculous for himself...and the more she thought about it like that, the more she felt that she had made the right choice...even if it was for the wrong reasons.
A sigh played on palid pink lips before she picked her pencil up and began to absently sketch out a design that played on the newspaper trope that was seemingly both in and out of fashion. A part of her wished that she could put that kind of design into the fabrics of her choice, to give it a retro-vintage look, but another part of her was certain that anything that tied to the printing press was on it’s way out. Her mind was a blank void for the moment, before she stared at the home screen of her computer. A picture of Adrien Agreste standing there, she still had yet to change it, despite having taken down a lot of the fanfare that had previously adorned her walls. “Looks like I forgot something else…” she mumbled, before she felt a slight brush of wind, and a tap on her cheek.
“Marinette! Don’t be so hard on yourself! Everyone can be forgetful!” Tikki’s charming voice rang out. A smile played on her lips for a brief moment before her soft gaze fluttered back to her computer screen and she began to search online for a picture that she knew existed somewhere, of Ladybug and Chat Noir sitting on a roof, gazing out at the city. She still wasn’t sure who had captured the photo, but it was one of her favorites, just a picture of her and Chat enjoying the moment. No flirting, no puns, no akumas...just patrolling the city in the pursuit of helping the citizens, and taking a pause for themselves afterward.
“You’re right Tikki...but as you know, sometimes it can be really hard not to chastise myself.” Marinette stated, before she finally found the photo and set that as her background. “What do you think of this design by the way?” she asked, motioning down to the paper she was sketching on and tapping on a small section of the paper with the erasure of her pencil, highlighting it for her Kwami partner.
“I think you should make it! It’d look really nice on anyone that wore it, and I know that’s important to you!” Tikki offered as Marinette’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. “You really think so? I was just sketching but, if you really think I should!” her voice was full of joy.
“Yeah! I can even help you like when you made the hat!” Tikki offered before Marinette scooped her up with both hands and placed a soft kiss to her Kwami’s forehead.
“Thank you so much Tikki!” Marinette stated before setting the kwami back down on the desk. “Now it’s time I get to work!” she stated while giving off a joking macho pose. Reaching into her pocket she sent out a few texts to Juleka, Luka, and Rose, asking each of them if they wouldn’t mind measuring each other for sizes, so that she could work on a new project, and after about 10 minutes of waiting, all three had sent separate responses with answers to her question, and upon that, she set straight off to work.
The process of making the jackets and shirts was a bit arduous, having to deal with puckered seams a bunch of the time, and becoming ultra friendly with a seam ripper, but after a while, she had finally perfected everything, and it had only taken one day and three afternoons, so for her it was record timing. Excitement filled the air as she sent texts off to Juleka, Rose, and Luka, asking if all three wouldn’t mind meeting her after school so that she could do a fitting for them, to perfect any issues in the clothing, and after that if they wouldn’t mind modeling the clothing out near Canal Saint Martin, so that she could play on the setting with the color tones of the clothing, offering each a box of macarons for their help, and to use the images on her new website. Rose and Juleka had answered with earnest, though Luka had yet to respond, but Marinette wasn’t too concerned, having believed he was just busy with his morning routine.
As she had gone through school, everything was basically the same as usual, aside from the excited glances she kept shooting back at Juleka and Rose, anticipating the afternoon.
“Girl, what’s up today, why do you keep looking back at Juleka and Rose, is something up with Kitty Section? Or is this about a certain boy in blue?” Alya teased before Marinette’s cheeks tinged pink.
“Nothing’s up exactly...I just asked the two of them if they’d model a new outfit for me is all, and I’m really excited to get it all set up on my website!” Marinette practically sang, her heart entirely set upon her work.
“Oh! You know what you need for that then? Adrien and Lila! They can totally help and give you some amazing tips to seem more professional!” Alya volunteered, which made Marinette sigh in irritation.
“I’d really rather they didn’t come.” Marinette stated, which made Alya roll her eyes.
“Look, you have to get over that he’s dating someone already, you can’t just pretend that you’re friends when you’re together but then avoid him for stuff like this that would actually help you!” Alya whisper-stated.
“No Alya, and this isn’t even about that! Besides, I’m fine, and Adrien and I are friends, I’m not pretending anything!” Marinette hissed.
“Then what, is it about your jealousy of Lila? She’s a model now girl, she really could help you!” Alya insisted, which made Marinette roll her eyes. The bell rang just at that moment, which was a godsend to Marinette. If she had to keep up with that conversation, she was going to scream. Scooping up her book-bag she slung it over her shoulder, reached into her pocket, and checked her texts. Finally, the message from Luka that she’d been waiting on!
>>>Yeah sure Marinette that sounds fun, but you really don’t need to bring the macarons, your company is enough of a present.
A smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she walked in a daze down the stairway, she wasn’t exactly in love with Luka, but he really did know how to make her feel light as air...but her mood was brought down the moment that she heard Alya’s loud voice in conversation with Lila and Adrien.
“Yeah! Marinette’s doing it today, just ask her---” Alya was midway through the sentence before Marinette stomped over.
“I already told you that I didn’t want them coming. This is private Alya, I didn’t even invite you so what makes you think that you can invite others on my behalf?!” she snapped.
“Girl like I said you need to get over your jealousy--”
“I’m not jealous! Why do you always have to make this about me being jealous!? What about this seems like jealousy?! I already have my models chosen, and since both Adrien and Lila are GABRIEL’S MUSES it would look bad on me to use either of them, for their help or for their modeling! I already told you I didn’t want them to come, but you came over and invited them anyway! Why won’t you just listen to me?! Do you want another Reflekdoll incident?! You didn’t even apologize to Juleka for that, you just left it all on me, and it wasn’t even my fault!” Marinette huffed, making motions with her hands the entire time, before finally turning her attention to both Adrien and Lila. “Look guys...I’m really sorry this isn’t about either of you, but I just wanted to spend some time concentrating on my own thing today and Alya really had no right to invite either of you. Everything is fitted to those three, and I’m doing final fitting checks for the new designs I made, it’s not even about you two, which Alya would have known if she’d have asked me first, or paid attention to when I said no!” her attention set back to Alya as both Lila and Adrien inched away slowly to get away from the splash zone of what they both perceived to be an obvious fight on the rise.
“Th-that’s fine Marinette! I understand, and I’m sure Lila does too...I’m gonna go meet my bodyguard now!” Adrien stated, before practically sprinting off.
“Marinette I don’t get it, why are you being so stubborn!? Is it really impossible to be friends with him now?” Alya begged. “I mean it’s weird enough having to plan around both of you being in the same place--”
“Nobody asked you to do that Alya! Neither of us should be unincluded! I already said it a few times now, this wasn’t about Adrien or Lila or jealousy, this was about you stomping into my already set plans and trying to take over, like you always do! It isn’t fair! Not to me, not to the people I make these plans with, not to anyone!”
“This really can’t be on me. I mean, there’s obviously something deeper--”
“No! There isn’t! Now would you stop making it a habit of stomping in on my plans and taking over!? Because I really have to go and I don’t want to keep having this conversation with you!” Marinette shot before slapping a hand to her face and huffing. “Look...we should really talk about this later, but right now...I have plans that I intend to follow through on…” and with that, Marinette took leave of the school, of Alya, and away from all of the weird looks she was getting. Her mood was clearly shot, but she wasn’t going to let that ruin the designs that she had spent days pouring her heart and soul into, or the fun she still intended to have with the Rose, Juleka, and Luka.

Let the Sunshine In - Chapter 6
Masterlist (because I finally learned to make one)
Five years ago Jason would have said he felt like death. Now Jason would have welcomed death with open arms if he thought Ra’as wouldn’t just track his body down and resurrect him again, even more broken the second time around.
Also, saying that you felt like death usually implied that someone was listening, which definitely was not the case. He felt like a ghost in a number of ways, a specter trapped between heaven and hell, desperate for someone to notice him, confirm that he existed. But the feeling of emptiness, of invisibility was put aside in the name of anger. After all, anger reigned supreme in his mind.
As each day passed, thoughts of Marinette slowly faded. It couldn't have been more than a week since he’d left her house, but the memories felt years old, a fleeting moment of light that could never have been permanent. It was almost easier that way, so he couldn’t reflect on how badly he’d messed up.
Not that Jason had any time to reflect. Each day without Marinette meant that the anger was becoming stronger and more frequent. He found himself blacking out for large chunks of time, and when he woke up he would wake up in the Red Hood mask, covered in blood that wasn’t his.
A part of him didn’t know why he even bothered with the costume - he was already a monster, no one could deny it. Part his reasoning for the costume was simply habit from his days as Robin, but a large part of his motivation was the thought of Marinette stumbling across him in the street. Just imagining the look of horror on her face was enough to shatter what little sense of self he had.
Maybe Marinette meant more to him than he was willing to admit.
So, Jason existed, even though he didn’t want to. It only took a week for Paris to start talking about him consistently, so he watched the news, monitored what he did when he wasn’t in control. It seemed that he hadn’t killed anyone yet - or if he had, the Miraculous Cure had brought them back. Apparently he lost consciousness during akuma attacks, and on several occasions he’d simply shot the akuma down, disappearing while Ladybug and Chat Noir dealt with the aftermath.
In theory the fact that he hadn’t shot anyone should have been some small consolation, but he couldn’t avoid that suspicion that he wasn’t actually helping the French heroes. He’d dealt with enough in Gotham to know when something was playing head games to accomplish their own means, and whatever it was that controlled him during his blackouts wanted something sinister.
Weeks passed just like that, Jason slowly losing himself day by day to the anger, the destruction he caused.
The nothingness.
Disguises, masks, his life was pushed into the shadows. He didn’t even think that he could actually call this living. Jason chuckled to himself, the sound cold and empty. His miraculous second chance at life left him in even worse shape than before Bruce found him, cold and hungry and completely without the will to live.
Jason didn’t have much hope for the future - really, he had a single hope. When the time came, he hoped that next time he stayed dead.
***********
She couldn’t understand - Marinette had known Jay for less than twenty-four hours, but the memory of him still haunted her. Did he have a safe place to stay? Was he eating enough? Had he fully succumbed to the influence of the Lazarus Pits yet?
Shaking herself, she turned her attention back to the issue at hand: Red Hood, the mysterious new vigilante. He had dodged any efforts she or Chat made to follow or talk to him, so they decided to split up and look for him outside of an akuma attack. It was doubtful that it would yield anything, but Marinette knew that if that hideous outfit she’d been forced to make was visible, she would spot it. The jury was still out on whether or not she would destroy it - if the opportunity presented itself, she would be more than tempted.
Swinging around the city until it was dark seemed like more than enough, though. Pausing on a rooftop, Ladybug spoke into her yo-yo. “I think it’s time to call it quits, Chaton. We both need to get some rest.”
“Brilliant idea, M’Lady. Don’t worry, we’ll find him soon.”
“I have no doubt about that, Chaton. After all, I can’t just let him steal my colors like this.”
Chat Noir let out a surprised bark of laughter. “I don’t know what happened to bring you back to yourself, Bugaboo, but it’s nice to have the old you back.”
“It feels nice to be back, Kitty. Now sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite.”
“Oh, you’re trying to steal my lines now? Just you wait, my new jokes are going to be insuf-fur-able.”
The two bantered a bit before finally saying goodbye. Detransforming, Marinette clambered down the building’s fire escape. It was dusk, so she probably should have gone straight home, but there was a grocery store not too far away, and she needed a few things.
“Bonjour,” the tired shop owner called upon her entrance.
“Bonjour!” Marinette replied, mentally making a list of things she needed. She was content to browse the shelves idly, despite the dwindling sunlight. It was a smaller store, and a handful of others milled around as well.
Marinette was staring down the produce and deciding what she wanted to make the coming week when the shopkeeper yelled, “Stop! Thief!”
Instinctively dropping her basket, Marinette launched herself to the doors of the store where someone was attempting to flee. He got caught up in a crowd on the sidewalk, which gave Marinette more time to catch up to him.
The closer she got to him, the more she recognized an eerie situation permeating the air. Now with completely different intentions, Marinette pounced, catching Jay’s and in hers.
She hauled him into an empty alleyway before demanding, “Jay? Are you okay? What’s going on? Why did you leave? Especially if you have to steal!”
Seeing him like this hurt, definitely more than Marinette could have ever expected it to. His eyes widened when they met hers, full of emotions - pain, fear, and regret swirled in his eyes before that same toxic green clouded them and anger reigned supreme. Snarling like a feral animal, he lunged towards Marinette with hands outstretched.
Marinette had been dreaming of finding Jay again for weeks, but this wasn’t how she’d pictured any of it happening. She dodged instinctively, and her stomach twisted when his jacket fell open just enough to see the familiar bullet proof material he wore underneath.
So, it seemed she’d found Red Hood after all.
None of it made sense just yet, but some of the pieces were starting to fall into place. All along it had seemed like Red Hood had been attempting to help in his own, destructive way, but he had never spoken, and his movements were always jerky, uncontrolled, not at all the way that Jay moved ordinarily. As someone alive because of the pits, he was probably drawn to all of the errant Miraculous energy.
It wasn’t fair. Overwhelmed by the injustice of his situation, Marinette’s body took over. She ducked another of his lunges and pivoted on her heel, her other one connecting solidly with his temple. He crumpled on impact, leaving Marinette panting and slightly regretting her hasty action. But her recently unleashed emotions burned within her.
Screw the Lazarus Pits, screw Jay’s anger, and screw Hawkmoth. Neither of them had asked for any of this - neither of them deserved  any of this.
She went back in to pay for the food she’d dropped and he’d stolen before calling a taxi.
“Marinette, what are you thinking?” Tikki asked, flitting around her head while they waited.
“I’ve been complacent for too long. I understand why I’ve done what I’ve done, but no more. Hawkmoth, whoever did this to Jay, they better watch out because I’m taking our lives back.” Marinette glanced to the bag she assumed held Red Hood’s helmet. “But only after I burn that awful helmet.”
Tikki couldn’t reply because it was then that the cabbie arrived, but she settled in Marinette’s purse, practically glowing. Finally.

Hey guys, I know it's been forever, sorry about that. I had a wicked case of writer's block, which was compounded by the fact that I only have the loosest of outlines for this fic. Picking what direction I needed to go was harder than I thought it would be. But I'm not giving up on this story, I promise to see it through to the end no matter how long it takes! Tales of Lovebug and Kitty Noir
Chapter one: Origins pt 1
Summary: Chat dislikes Lovebug (Ladybug) because she is bossy and often late. Marinette dislikes Adrien because the chewing gum incident was never resolved. Adrien is in love with Marinette because he sees how nice she is to everyone. Marinette likes Chat because. . . She just does, okay!
Chat noir walked carefully across his baton, his balance perfect due to all the hours of practice in his room. He was halfway across when he heard a scream and looked up to see a red blur flying toward him.
He didn’t have time to react before it collided with him and they plummeted.
He felt the blood rush to his head and for a moment, he thought they would crash to the ground. But then, something thin wrapped around him and halted his fall. His eyes adjusted and he saw a girl around his age with dark hair and blue eyes. She pulled on something and they fell the last few feet to the ground.
“I’m so sorry,” the girl said, “I didn’t mean to do that, I’m new at this.”
He was new to this too so he would let it slide. Plus, she was cute, which didn’t hurt. “No sweat, I'm still learning the ropes too. I’m … hmm… Chat noir. Yeah! Chat noir! What‘s your name?”
She tugged on the string again. “M-”
Ouch! Something hard slammed into his head and he reached up to rub it.
“Madly clumsy,” she continued, hanging her head dejectedly. “I’m so clumsy.”
Chat felt sorry for the girl. She must feel really bad. He tried to think of a way to make her feel better. “It’s okay, we all make mistakes.”
“No, you don’t understand. I’m always clumsy. I can’t walk over a flat surface without finding something to trip on,” she sighed. “I’m hopeless.” She looked up like she just realized what she was saying. “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m dumping all of my problems on you and we haven’t even known each other for five minutes.”
“It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not!”
“Really, I completely understand. It’s fine.” He didn’t really, but she looked so miserable. He had to say something!
She was about to say something else, probably protest about how she shouldn’t have said anything, when they felt the ground beneath them rumble and heard screams coming from the direction of the stadium.
He was already racing off towards the screams. “Gotta go. It was nice meeting you,” he called back as he extended his baton.
------
He hit the giant stone monster with his baton and- to his surprise and utter displeasure, it got bigger. He didn’t know how that was possible and it certainly wasn’t helping with his already growing panic, And neither did the fact that his red partner was standing on top of the stadium, doing absolutely nothing.
Why wasn’t she doing anything? “Hey, Partner! A little help here?!” He called as he dodged an attack.
He heard a scream from behind him and turned to see the car he had dodged heading straight for-
Why was there still a civilian?
He thought they had all escaped already. He launched his baton, extending it. The car bounced off his baton, shielding the girl. He started to retract it, but was grabbed from behind by a giant fist.
How had it managed to sneak up on him? He had been too preoccupied saving the girl from the car to see it sneaking behind him. “Come on, Partner! I need your help!”
He saw her take a deep breath before swinging down and flinging her yoyo around one of the giant’s fingers. She pulled as hard as she could and, magically, he opened his fist, dropping Chat Noir.
He rolled to absorb the momentum, and jumped up by his partner who was running toward the soccer goal. He followed her and noticed her outfit for the first time. Was she. . . wearing a dress? Who wears a dress into battle? “Why are you wearing a dress?” he asked incredulously.
It was red with an illusion neckline, a ladybug sash around her waist, and an asymmetrical skirt. Black tights patterned with ladybugs and flowers were underneath. Probably so she didn't flash anyone when she swung around. He looked at her feet and saw that she was wearing black ballerina flats with red accents. He had to admit, she looked good.
“What? Oh. It’s actually really comfortable. Not as restricting as you might think,” she responded, defending her choice cheerfully. “I actually designed a dress like this before. I never made it though. Maybe that’s why I transformed into it,”.
Why was she so happy? They were in the middle of a battle!
They made it to the goal when he finally remembered his special power.
“CATACLYSM!” There was a flash of green light and small, black bubbles started swirling around his hand. He touched the goal and it crumbled. Cool! He launched himself at the giant and slammed his hand down on its foot- And nothing happened.
Was it too strong? he asked himself, dumbfounded and at a loss for what to do next.
He felt a wire wrap around his abdomen and yank him back to the goal. He landed in a heap on the scratchy, fake grass. The girl pulled back her yoyo. “Don’t you know you can only use your power once? And you only have five minutes before you transform back,” she scolded. “Didn’t your kwami tell you anything?”
She had the nerve to scold him. She didn’t even show up until he called for her. Twice. He understood that she didn’t choose this. And she was probably afraid. But if someone needs your help, you help them. No matter the cost.
“I was excited. I didn’t actually think I would have to fight a supervillain.” He had to fight to keep his tone civil.
She sighed, “I guess it’s time for some luck.”
“LUCKY CHARM!” she screamed. There was a flash of light, pink this time, and a red and black wetsuit fell into her hands.
He had to see this. “Planning on going swimming?”
She glared at him. “You see his fist? He never opens it. There must be something in it. That’s where the Akuma is.” She grabbed the end of a hose and put it in the neck of the wetsuit. “We need to get caught.”
“What?!”
“You heard me, we need to let him capture us.”
“Are you crazy!”
“No. I have a plan, but we need to let him capture us for it to work.”
“If this doesn’t work, you owe me ice cream,” he grumbled.
“That sounds fair,” she chirped. Why was she so dang cheerful? ”On three. One. . . Two. . . Three!
They charged toward the giant. He was grabbed first. Then the girl- he was really getting tired of calling her ‘the girl’- got captured. “Alya, the tap!” she yelled.
“You got it!” the civilian- Alya- called back. She ran over to the faucet attached to the hose and turned it on.
The girl- he really needed to find a better name for her- leaped out of its fist as the wetsuit filled with water. He saw a ball of crumpled, purple paper land in front of the girl who ripped it in half. A black and purple butterfly flew out of it and fluttered away.
The monster’s exterior bubbled black and purple before shrinking and turning into a teenage boy.
The girl grabbed the wetsuit and flung it into the air screaming, “MIRACULOUS LADYBUG!” Glowing ladybugs swirled around repairing all the damage the stone monster had caused.
Chat couldn’t help but notice that he looked confused. Maybe he couldn’t remember what he’d done.
The girl unfolded the ball of now-white paper and scanned it. Then, she walked over to the boy and handed him the paper. She said something he didn’t quite catch and smiled. The boy nodded and she helped him up.
Chat heard his ring beep and bounded away.
-------
Ugh! Adrien hated Chloe! Why did she have to mess up his first day of school? It was her reputation as a brat that had messed up his reputation with a classmate.
A really cute classmate. One he’d seen being very kind to everyone else. It was only Chloe and now him she had a problem with. He hoped he could explain to her that it was just a misunderstanding. Then they could be friends. Or maybe. . . more.
Adrien shook his head. No. He was getting ahead of himself. First, he had to convince her that it was just a misunderstanding. And that he wasn’t friends with Chloe. He wrinkled his nose.
He heard a crash from outside his window and ran to see what it was. Out on the street, he saw a stone giant stomping down the street, shaking the ground with every step.
“Shit! Plagg, get over here!”
“What do you need?” he called back grumpily.
“You might want to see this.” He called back.
Plagg phased through the door to his designated cheese cupboard and flew over. “What is it? I have a date with my soft, gooey camembert.”
“Why is it back?”
“Did Lovebug capture the Akuma?”
“Akuma? Lovebug?”
“The purple butterfly. And Lovebug is the ladybug miraculous holder.”
“She didn’t capture the Akuma, no. And how do you know her name?”
“I went to visit them earlier to see how she was settling in.”
“Plagg, you know that’s dangerous.” he frowned. “Wait, you know who she is?”
“Of course.”
He was about to say something but he felt the ground quake again. “We’ll talk about this later, we have a city to save. PLAGG, CLAWS OUT!”
Bright green light flooded the room as his clothes turned into black leather. He leaped out the window and chased after the new giant.
-------
Chat threw his baton to protect Alya from a flying car for the second time in two days. What were the odds? He felt something hard squeeze him and realized that one of the stone monsters had grabbed him. Jeez who ate his breakfast? The giant hunk of granite turned and marched towards the Eiffel tower with its. . . Siblings? Cousins? Acquaintances?
Whatever they were, there were too many of them. Even if he managed to get out of this one’s grip, he would never be able to fight them all off.
Where was Lovebug when you needed her? Was this going to become a regular thing?
“LOVEBUG! Wherever you are, HELP!” he shouted as he struggled to free himself from the boulder’s grip.
He spotted Lovebug when they were about halfway to the Eiffel tower. She freed him again by wrapping her yoyo around its thumb and yanking it away from him. He fell and landed on his feet before she threw him his baton.
They started running and he asked, “So what’s the plan?”
“Get to the Eiffel tower before they do and take out their leader.”
“Shouldn’t we take care of them first?”
“No, we take out the source and they will all return to their original forms.”
“Okay, anything else I need to know?”
She thought about that for a moment, “Umm? No? I can’t think of anything.”
“Great!”
They ran in silence until they made it to the base of the tower where they saw the police force gathered in a semicircle around the tower, with Mayor Bourgeois at the front next to Officer Roger.
He followed their eyes up and saw the monster from the day before holding two teenage girls. Chloe and another girl from his class, Malory? Madeline? Mylene? That was it. Mylene. And that must be...Ivan.
Adrien had been surprised to find out that he was in the same class as the boy who had been akumatized. Something must have happened to upset him again.
“I demand my daughter’s safe return!” Mayor Bourgeois screamed through a megaphone.
“Daddy!” Chloe screamed back.
“You know what? You’re welcome to her!” Ivan said before hurling her at them.
“Ahh!” she screamed, flailing her arms, “Help! I promise I’ll be nice to everyone and say please and thank you!”
Yeah, fat chance, he thought bitterly to himself.
Lovebug leaped forward and caught her, landing and setting her on her feet.
“I didn’t promise,” Chloe said innocently moment she was safe, entitled as always.
Called it!
Lovebug just sighed and faced Ivan again.
“We are clear to attack!” yelled Roger.
“Wait,” Lovebug turned to face him, “no, don’t attack them, you know it will only make it worse!”
“I have a new plan, unlike you. Step down, Lovebug,” Officer Roger called. “Let the professionals handle this, you’ve already failed once.”
Wait. How did he know her name? Had everyone known except him?
She looked down dejectedly, “He’s right. If I’d just remembered to capture the Akuma in the first place, we wouldn’t be in this mess.” She told him, he almost missed the waver in her voice. Now that he thought about it, she seemed tense and anxious and defeated. “I don’t deserve to be Lovebug.”
Well, I guess it’s up to me then. “Lovebug, look at me,” he said softly, placing his hands on her shoulders. She tilted her head up and he saw that her eyes were brimming with tears. “Don’t listen to him. Look at her,” he continued, as he turned her to face Chloe, who was now hugging her father. “Would she be here without you?” He paused briefly to let his words sink in. “We all make mistakes, what matters is how we fix them.”
“You’ve been holding onto that one for a long time haven’t you?” she giggled.
“The longest,” he said playfully. “Now don’t ruin this for me, we have a super-villain to defeat,” he smiled.
“Okay.” She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the coming battle. Then, she let it out, “I’m ready.”
They turned toward the tower just as Ivan hacked up a swarm of purple butterflies. The cloud of insects morphed into a giant face.
“People of Paris, listen carefully. I am Hawkmoth,” it started.
“Hawkmoth?” they said together.
“Lovebug, Chat noir, give me the ladybug earrings and the cat ring now. You’ve done enough damage to these innocent people.”
Chat heard clapping to his right and looked over to see Lovebug walk forward slowly. “Nice try, Hawkmoth, but we know who the bad guy is. Let’s not reverse the roles here. Without you, none of these innocent victims would be transformed into villains. Hawkmoth, no matter how long it takes, we will find you! And you will hand us your miraculous!” As she finished her speech, she leaped up to the butterflies. “Time to de-evilize!” she screamed as she started swinging her yoyo at the swarm, catching the butterflies two or three at a time.
When she had caught the last butterfly, she landed and turned to face them, “Let me make this promise to you, no matter who wants to harm you, Chat Noir and Lovebug will do everything in our power to keep you safe,” she said before pressing a button on her yoyo and letting out a cloud of white butterflies.
Chat heard cheers and whoops coming from the officers surrounding the tower.
“Wow. Whoever she is beneath the mask, she’s a showoff,” he deadpanned.
He looked up just as Ivan picked himself back up. Parkouring up the tower, he met Lovebug in front of Ivan.
“I won’t let you take Mylene away from me!” The boy screamed before turning and storming away.
Boy, this was going to be a long day, Chat thought as he raced after him with Lovebug.
I was going to post this on Thursday, but I couldn't stop thinking about it so I'm posting it early. From now on, though, I'll only be posting TLKN on Thursdays. Even if I miss a week.
Thank you to my amazing beta @valiantlyjollynightmare!

#4 Disguises
One day Chat Noir actually convinces Ladybug to hangout with him without their superhero costumes. It’s going to be a beautiful spring day come Saturday, so why not spend it with a stroll along the Seine and a picnic in the park? Naturally, she put up a fight because that would be a “terrible idea” that would surely have “consequences”, but then he used the kitten eyes she claimed had absolutely no effect on her, and so she gave in.
After a good hour spent trying to style his hair like Chat Noir’s, he heads to their designated meeting spot sans the roses he wanted to bring along. According to Plagg, they would just be an annoying thing to carry around. He’s early, looking around like an overeager puppy searching for his owner, but that doesn’t last too long. There’s a tap on his shoulder, and when he turns around, he sees his lady with her hair down and a pair of big, black sunglasses that cover the usual half of her face.
Cliche as it is, she takes his breath away. He has to tell his body to inhale and then exhale a few times before the cycle starts anew. All the while, he takes in how her dark hair brushes along freckled shoulders.
He just stares at her, knowing he probably looks like an idiot, but how can he not? He takes in pink lips he’s waxed poetic about and the cutest button nose. And now that he can see more of the bridge, he can really see those--
“Freckles,” he says dumbly.
She purses her lips, immediately looking to the side. When he realizes that he spoke, he feels his ears burning from embarrassment.
“You already know I have freckles,” she points out.
“I do!” he smiles, taking in how they dot her nose and cheeks. He tries to think of something smart to say, something that isn’t just “your freckles are adorable” or “all of you is adorable” or “god I love you so much”. Instead he settles with, “I’ve just never....seen...all of them?”
Ladybug shrugs. Then she grins. “You, on the other hand, look like a walking Gabriel Agreste ad.”
He tries not to wince. When he was planning his outfit earlier, it really hit him that all he owned were things made by his father.
“So what’s on the agenda today, kitty?”
“Um.” Adrien glances at the water. “A stroll?”
“That’s it?”
Adrien begins to flounder as her words echo in his head. Yeah. Wait. Really? he asks himself. That’s it? He finally has Ladybug hanging out with him on the friendly hangout that could maybe score him a date in the future, and he had nothing planned?
“Picnic,” he blurts out. “And a picnic.” She nods, pleased, and Adrien grins. He offers her his arm and judging by the twitch of her lips, she’s rolling her eyes behind those oversized sunglasses. “Shall we, my lady?”
She takes his arm and leans into him. They’ve never had any issues invading each other’s personal space, but somehow this is different. For one, Adrien can feel her body heat. Supersuits had a way of carefully regulating temperature, after all. They walk and they chat but his heart isn’t really in it considering it’s lodged in his throat and he’s more or less floundering over the fact that he’s actually hanging out with Ladybug in real life--
Adrien frowns when Ladybug squeezes his arm and then flinches when a camera flashes at his side.
Though not transformed, in his head, he’s Chat Noir right now. His sunglasses do well enough to block the bright light when a second photo is taken.
Adrien vaguely recognizes the photographer. They’re all annoying, but this one is only slightly less invasive. Or, at least, that’s what he thought.
The photographer just grins. “Nice to see you in actual clothes, Pyjama Girl. Until next time, Agreste.”
If Ladybug’s grip on him had already been tight, she’s definitely cutting off his circulation now. He hears her inhale sharply as her fingers dig into his arm. Before he can process what’s going on, Ladybug is leading him away from a group of teenage girls who are taking out their phones.
Adrien blinks. Wait a second. Oh god. He struggles to breathe as he realizes that he was recognized.
“Oh no--”
“Come on,” Ladybug hisses, turning a corner.
The only reason she doesn’t start running is because that would be more suspicious. And if she heard what the photographer called him -- how could she not? -- then she knows who he is and just what kinds of hordes liked to follow him around when he didn’t have his bodyguard scaring them away.
She knows, Adrien reels. She knows.
Ladybug knows and oh gosh, that photographer got a picture of them together. He’d need a copy of that. And gosh, he probably thought they were dating. This would be the whole thing with Marinette all over again. This would--
Wait a second.
Adrien stops abruptly, separating from Ladybug when she moves forward. She stops when they lose contact, and despite those big, black sunglasses, he knows she’s staring at him with her Crisis Mode eyes.
“Adrien--”
“He called you Pyjama Girl.” Dots connect to dots and soon Adrien is gawking at her, arms flailing and mouth moving with no sound coming out. “I--you--you’re--” His shoulders rise as he bites his lip and tilts his head a fraction. He smiles, eyes soft, and he can’t help the way his hands come up to his chest. He’s almost certain he can hear Plagg scoffing. “Marinette,” he whispers reverently. He looks like a lovesick idiot, he has no doubt. He plucks off his sunglasses because they hardly have a point anymore. “Marinette!”
His lady has her arms crossed as she looks up at the sky. “I’m an idiot. I can’t believe I let this happen.”
“Marinette!”
“Sunglasses are not a disguise, dammit.”
“Marinette!” He can’t help himself when he pulls her into a hug. He lifts her, making her yelp, and proceeds to twirl her around because this is the best day of his life. When he sets her down, she removes her own sunglasses and watches him with an entirely unmasked face.
God, she’s so beautiful.
Adrien has always known, objectively speaking, that Marinette is gorgeous. And oh man, when she wore her hair down? Adrien swallows as he transitions from happy lovesick mess to anxious lovesick mess. He takes in the nervousness in her eyes that he needs to quell immediately, the soft smile that tells him she’s as happy about this as he is, and just more--
“Freckles,” he whispers.
Marinette rolls her eyes the way Ladybug does. The way Marinette does. “Again?”
“I can see new ones now without the mask!”
“You see my freckles all the time...Adrien.”
“That’s true. Because we go to school together. And you sit behind me.” Then he giggles. “You called me Adrien.”
“It’s your name.”
“It is!” He’s gushing and he knows it. “Oh man, how are you staying so calm about all this?”
That makes her huff in amusement. “I was definitely freaking out when we were running away earlier.”
“Of course you were!” Adrien laughs because of course Marinette’s version of freaking out, much like Ladybug’s, was keeping it cool while strategizing an escape route and then making everything okay again. He pulls her into another hug and rubs his cheek against the top of her head. “Bugaboo!”
“No! No Bugaboo!”
She hugs him back though, so he holds her tighter and coos “Bugaboo” once more.
