Hi,Iā€™ve been having problems trying to open the zine,it lets me stay on it for a minute and then kicks me to a white screen that says the request expired.do you know how to fix this?
Hello, one of our lovely contributors, @theminecraftbee, has written up a troubleshooting guide regarding this issue! We hope this will be able to assist you and if you have any further issues, let us know!
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE UNDER READ MORE!
How to troubleshoot the white screen error.
This is caused by your browser opening the download link as a new tab and viewing it as a URL instead of downloading the zine and saving it to your machine. Itch.io causes that URL to expire quickly to prevent hotlinking. The way to fix this is to save the zine to your machine as a PDF in some way, and then open it from your machine instead of the URL. Depending on your browser, there will be different ways to force this to happen.
Make sure your browser allows pop-ups! Itch itself says this can break the download if not.
Try temporarily turning off your adblock. This can interfere with downloads sometimes.
If on mobile, hit download and make sure the zine is open and currently visible. Then, on iOS, navigate to the "share" button. There should be an option to "save to my files"; do that, then read the zine from your files! (This didn't work well on Firefox mobile for some reason; you may wish to use Safari instead.) (I don't have an Android phone but any similar method of forcing a save should solve the problem there as well.)
If on desktop, make sure the zine is open and currently visible, then, if you're on desktop, navigate to the browser menu and find "Save page as..." Use this to save the zine if it did not automatically download. (On Firefox this is in the top menu; in Chrome you may need to move to 'more tools'.) This should give you a file saved to your machine that you can open and read. (Note: This issue could not be fully recreated on desktop, so there's no solid confirmation that this works.)

So, my laptop has decided to leave this world, in the way of the motherboard no longer functioning. It was a long time coming, I've been taping it together like a bunch of scraps for a year now.Ā
I've said goodbye to it in a ritual where I hugged it and sang to it while crying, after trying to fix it for an hour and a half. It was kinda nice! I wish all of my past friendships had ended this way - hours of ernest attempts of fixing, followed by singing, hugging and crying as we part ways. I would have felt better about it all.Ā
I am having some withdrawal because I've been unwisely coping with my mental illness by playing stardew valley every availabile moment. And now I can't, so I am doing the only thing my phone is capable of - reading wikipedia. Which you're finding out about because I can't learn a new piece of infomation without instantly broadcasting it with a deep analysis of what I think it means.
So how am I still endlessly posting on tumblr when my phone can't even access it? Well. It's a process.
I noticed the woman I care for has a tablet, connected to internet. But it has a password. I've sneakily elicited the password (asked her if I can have it). But to seem polite and normal, I'm borrowing the tablet in 5-minute intervals. Which isn't enough to look trough messages, reply to asks, check notes and type a sensible paragraph and click post.
So I am typing this on my phone, which can somehow still open my gmail account. I'm writing emails to myself. Then I send it to my regular email account, which my phone can't open, but tablet can. Hours later, I open it on tablet, copy-paste the entire text on tumblr and click post. Tumblrinas will do anything to get her posts out there.Ā
On the other hand, I've been finger typing this for half an hour, I am on samsung galaxy android phone using one finger to type. It is rough out here. This method will work while I'm borrowing a tablet, and afterwards, I might be able to procure another laptop, we'll see! Someone is helping me figure it out.
Sorry everyone in my DM's that I got silent! I will write back to you when the gods of electronics smile upon me.

Hii papa bear! It's my birthday today and all i could think about was your amazing writing and Connor from dbh. So I'd kike to ask of you could write something where it's y/n's birthday but he has to be at work. So when y/n comes back from work he's frustrated and angry. Connor notices y/n's mood so he tells y/n to sit down and get comfortable and than he gives him a show. Which leads to y/n fucking Connor senseless? (And maybe some cock warming cuddling at the end)
Please and thank you!
Have a good day/night!
- Day šŸ¦”
Hey Day! Happy birthday my love! I hope you have the best birthday ever and you get lots of gifts! šŸŽ‚ ļæ½ļæ½
Waring! Birthday boy reader, Y/n having a rough day, SMUT, couch sex, cock warming, birthday sex, rough sex.
RK800 CONNER X birthday boy TOP MALE READER
Tumblr media
*Buzz* *Buzz* Y/n's phone begins to vibrate on the night stand.
Y/n lets out a muffled groan into his pillow before turning his head to the dresser picking up his phone. Y/n holds his phone to his face. "Annoying prick." Says the id name and Y/n already knows who it is.
Y/n looks at his sleeping boyfriend before answering the phone.
It was Reed calling him. Every year on his birthday Gavin is the first to call him and tell him happy birthday. Y/n clicks on the answer letting it go on speaker.
"Happy birthday fuck face. Maybe this year you'll die." Reed says with a teasing tone.
Y/n was too tired to say a comeback since he was way too tired and exhausted. "Thanks Gav, lets go to the club like last time maybe on Sunday to celebrate."
"Why not today?" Gavin says back.
"I have to work. Then I plan to be with my family and boyfriend. So y'know only free this Sunday." Y/n answers back before saying a bye before hanging up.
Y/n turns his body around to face the power of android staring at him. A little while later the led on Conner's head slowly becomes blue signaling that he's waking up.
Y/n sits up from the bed laying his back on the headboard watching Conner get up.
"Good morning Y/n." Conner states looking up at his boyfriend. "Good morning con." Y/n says before leaning in kissing him on the lips. Conner automatically kisses back with a tiny smile. Conner is first to pull away looking Y/n in his eyes before saying.
"Happy birthday! You're a/n starting from today." Conner wishes also adding in a little reminder. "Thanks baby~" Y/n says resting his head against Conner's for a while enjoying the peace.
Conner begins to ramble on about the history of birthdays. "the Egyptians were the first ones to get the party started. When Egyptian pharaohs were crowned gods, they were ā€œbirthed.ā€ That means the first birthday celebration wasn't marking the birth of a human, but rather the birth of a god.----"
Y/n cuts Conner off by kissing him deeply. "Thank you again." Y/n thanks before getting up from the bed with Conner following him shortly.
TIMESKIP
Y/n is all set ready for work, but Conner stops him before he could leave the house.
Conner wraps his arms around Y/n's shoulders standing on his tippy toes. "Bye Y/n, I love you and again happy birthday."Conner says resting his head on Y/n's.
Y/n moves his hand on both sides of his boyfriend's hips holding him tightly. "I love you too. And thanks." Y/n responds back with a deep kiss. The two stay in the other's arms kissing and slowly rocking back and forth until Y/n needs air.
"Alright, bye love you!" Y/n says before letting go of Conner and walking out the door.
"Love you!"
Timeskip
After work Y/n drives home in total silence. He has a tight grip on the wheel with his jaw clenched tight with his hands trembling in anger. Y/n leg bounced and shacked as he thought.
Y/n didn't know how his day went from good to bad so fast in only a few hours.
Maybe because it started to rain hard when he was going to work. No... Maybe because his co-workers were being annoying rude shits to him. No that's not it. Maybe because his female co-worker was pressing up against him and flirting. God that's not it either. Maybe he had piles of paperwork to do and it was overwhelming.
Y/n couldn't pick a reason to feel this way. Maybe it was just everything in general. Yeah. That sounded right.
Y/n drove his car to the drive way and turned off the car taking his keys out holding them tight as he just stared at the wheel. Y/n felt like he was losing his mind.
The male stayed in the car for almost an hour alone with his thoughts before leaving the car.
Y/n unlocked the front door to his house walking inside before shutting and locking it behind him. Y/n took off the extra things he had like his shoes, jackets, and etc. Y/n walks through the house with a clear frustrated and angry face.
Conner stood from afar staring at Y/n with a puzzled look. He scanned Y/n. He saw how his heart was beating faster and also his blood pressure was high. Conner thought for a while before acting on his thoughts. He walked up from behind Y/n and hugged him from behind.
Conner saw how Y/n body had tensed up and relaxed. Before Y/n could say something Conner dragged Y/n's body to the couch before sitting him down on it. "Get comfortable." Conner says watching Y/n look at him with confusion, but does what he's told. Once Y/n was comfortable Conner began to slowly strip out of his clothes giving Y/n a show. Conner slowly begins to unbutton his shirt revealing his bare stomach and chest.
Conner rolls off the shirt with his shoulders before spreading open Y/n's legs open before crawling down in his lap. Y/n watches Conner's movements fully enchanted by him.
Conner kissed the side of Y/n's jaw peppering it with kisses before sucking and biting Y/n's neck that was revealed. Conner moved and grinned his hips on Y/n's crotch. Conner felt Y/n's members slowly grew under him. He moved his hips around until Y/n's cock was fully hard.
The android finally gets up from Y/n's lap before standing back on the floor unbuckling hid pants before slowly taking them off leaving him only him in his underwear.
Conner crawls back into Y/n's lap, but this time Y/n wraps his arms around his boyfriend with a smirk before pressing his lips into Conner's own kissing him deeply. Y/n moves his arms to the right swinging down Conner on the couch getting on top of him as they makeout. Y/n moves his hands off of Conner and moves them to his clothes taking off his shirt. Conner watches looking at Y/n with lust in his eyes.
Once Y/n's shirt was off he goes back down kissing and biting Conner's neck leaving love bites on his skin making them a light blue.
Conner wraps his legs around Y/n as Y/n grinds his clothed hard cock into Conner's clothed hole. Conner hard cock throbbed and ached as Y/n grinned on him.
Y/n felt his anger and frustration slowly drift away and be replaced by lust and pleasure. Conner's hands fumbled around the waistband of Y/n's underwear tugging and pulling on them clearing wanting the hard thing inside it.
Y/n pulled away from the android's neck before moving his hands to Conner's underwear pulling them off of him slowly as Conner unwraps his legs so Y/n can take them fully off. Conner's hard cock flies out once it's completely free.
To not leave his boyfriend behind Y/n takes off his own boxers with ease letting his hard member fly free.
Conner spreads his legs wider giving Y/n access to his body. Y/n moves his hand to his cock lining it up to Conner's hole. Y/n begins to slowly push his tip inside staring at his boyfriend for any sign of discomfort. Once Y/n's cock was inside half way he began to snap his hips back and forth at a fast pace.
Y/n's thrust was hard and deep no doubt some of the harshness is from the frustration he had at work. Y/n held Conner's wrist tight as he fucks him deep. "S-slow down! ss-slow down Y/n!"
Conner's walls clenching around Y/n's cock as he moans and screams from pleasure.Y/n begins to pick up his speed even more fucking the android ruthlessly.
Y/n's cock goes deeper and deeper inside Conner causing his led light to begin to flash colors. Conner's eyes couldn't even keep focus on Y/n anymore.
The android's legs shook and trembled from the rough thrust his boyfriend was doing. Conner's hands flared around as he tried to hold on to anything. Y/n rocked his hips deep inside.
Finally Conner found a place to keep his hands on. Right on Y/n's back holding onto him tight as well as some light scratches.
Y/n's cock began to twitch signalling to the android that he was close. Y/n picked up his thrust even faster hold down Conner's waist as he fucks him deep.
After a while Y/n hoist Conner off his back and to his lap fucking him messily. Thrust after thrust Y/n felt the knot in his stomach tighten. Y/n gripped onto Conner's hips as Conner wrapped his arms around Y/n's shoulders holding onto him tightening and moaning nonsense into his ear.
"Y-Y/n! Y/n!~ I'm i'm..." Conner couldn't even finish his sentence as he came hard all over himself and Y/n's chest. It wasn't the first time the android had an orgasm, but every time he does it feels new to him. Every time felt like a new experience that he loved. "h~ Hah... Happy birthday!~" Conner moans out his whole body feeling more and more sensitive with every thrust.
Not too shortly Y/n reaches his peak as well cumming deep inside Conner. The android desperately begins to ride Y/n's cock as he cums inside him. Conner bounces and bounces making sure Y/n has nothing left to give him. Y/n breathed heavy into the crook of Conner's neck calming down from his high. Conner felt full and he loved the feeling of Y/n's cum buried deep inside him.
Y/n wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's waist bringing him close cuddling him into his lap. Conner curls into Y/n's lap with his cock still buried deep inside.
"Happy birthday. Also Hank stopped by with cake for you to eat." Conner says into Y/n's ear.
"Perhaps I should sing you happy birthday?"
THE END

Hello!
Got another idea about younger detective and how Hank can't believe she likes him, so he thinks she spends time with them for Connor, until she's fed up with all of this and kisses him. Maybe in front of DPD šŸ‘€.
Thanks Queen/King/any other royality you might identifies with šŸ’–šŸ˜Œ
Get a Fucking Clue
A/N: Sorry for the delay šŸ˜ my life literally imploded over the last week and a half and I finally got the ship back on course. I hope you enjoy it!! Iā€™m so sorry it took me so long!
~
Cool, refreshing air envelopes your body, a comforting contrast to the summer heat outside as you walk step into the Detroit Police Precinct. Today marks the beginning of a new journey for you as a criminal investigator. Over are the days of sitting on the side of the road, in alleys, waiting for someone to break into a building, mug some unsuspecting passerby, or any of the other unsavory activities that occur under the moonlight of this restless city. Now, you get to work among some of DPDā€™s finest on the scenes of the crimes, solving crimes with much higher stakes.
You take a breath, trying to keep yourself cool and collected as you walk into the Bull Pen. Youā€™ve been in here before, but typically you didnā€™t spend much time here. You walk through, looking at the desks, looking for the lieutenant and his partner youā€™ve been assigned to train under. You see a man, or android, rather, as you can tell by the bright blue LED on his temple, sitting at a desk. You recall being told the partner in question was an android detective sent by Cyberlife, and though you donā€™t see anyone sitting with him, you approach anyway.
ā€œHello. You must be Connor,ā€ you say, greeting the android as you walk up to the desk. He looks up from his computer at you. ā€œHello,ā€ he says, giving you a warm smile, ā€œI am in fact. Can I help you with something?ā€ You look at the empty desk across from him. ā€œHave you seen Lieutenant Anderson this morning?ā€ You ask, puzzled by his absence. Connor smiles again. ā€œIt would be surprising if I had. Iā€™ll call him and let him know youā€™re here.ā€ He picks up his phone, calling Lieutenant Anderson. He looks mildly surprised as his call is answered. ā€œLieutenant? Our trainee is here. She wishes to meet you.ā€ Heā€™s quiet for a moment, seemingly listening to the response. ā€œAlright. Iā€™ll let her know.ā€ Connor hangs up the phone, looking to you, ā€œHe wanted me to inform you heā€™ll be here in fifteen minutes. He said you may sit at his desk until he arrives if you want.ā€ You smile, nodding. ā€œI think I will.ā€
You sit at his desk, taking in the various items he has scattered around. Heā€™s got a little plant, which makes you smile, and a picture of a saint bernard dog. Heā€™s also got stickers all over his computer screen, almost completely covering the screen itself. You scan your eyes over the snarky and sarcastic stickers, referencing his disdain for his ex-wife, happy people, and complaints.
Just as you finish reading them, you catch the motion of someone approaching out of the corner of your eye. You look up to see a particularly tall man, taller than Connor, with shaggy, silver hair and a brown leather jacket approaching. You smile, standing up. ā€œYou must be Lieutenant Anderson,ā€ you greet, holding your hand out for him to shake. He stands in front of you, an apathetic yet curious look on his face as he shakes your hand. The contact nearly sends a shiver down your spine, heat blossoming in your hand and running all the way up your arm, settling in your cheeks. ā€œUnfortunately.ā€ He responds, looking down at you. ā€œAre you the new kid Fowler wants me to train?ā€ Your smile falters a little bit, taken aback, but youā€™re not one to back down at the first sign of trouble. You stand up a little straighter, smiling at him confidently. ā€œI actually have several years of patrol under my belt.ā€ This makes him chuckle. ā€œI consider ā€˜severalā€™ five or more years. How many you got?ā€ He retorts. You cross your arms, still smiling. ā€œFour. But regardless, Iā€™m not fresh meat, Lieutenant, and Iā€™m sure someone as experienced as yourself will have no problem training me up in no time,ā€ you quip. This finally gets you a smirk from the detective. He sits down in his chair, ā€œIā€™ll see what I can do.ā€
-
Your training under Hank went like that for months. Sarcastic comments from Hank, witty replies thrown right back in his face from you, Connor being an unfortunate bystander, day in and day out. As the days went by, you found yourself growingā€¦ Particularly fond of Hank. It was nearing the end of your training, meaning working so closely alongside Hank and Connor was about to come to and end, and you would be assigned to cases on your own and eventually be issued your own partner. As exhilarating as it was, finally having the world in your hands, it was bittersweet. You found yourself waking up in the morning eager to go to work, and though you were in some degree of denial about it, deep down you knew you werenā€™t eager to work. You were eager to see Hank.
Hank was grumpy, cynical, and spiteful, yes. Absolutely he was. Concurrently, though, you knew that, much like Connor, he had grown a soft spot for you. In fact, much to Connorā€™s chagrin, he seemed to have more of a soft spot for you than he did for even his android partner. Of the three of you, you were the most likely to make mistakes. To get things wrong. Regardless, he always met your self criticisms with defensiveness. Defense of you. He never let you feel like you werenā€™t a good enough detective, or like you would never be able to make it on your own. And, though you would never let him know it, the banter between the two of you, when it happened, never failed to light a fire deep inside you. It was exhilarating to go back and forth with him, and you basked in the attention of it.
Nearing the end of your training with Hank, only weeks out from it, you found yourself standing outside of Chicken Feed with Hank. Connor sat in the car, as usual, seemingly wanting to give the two of you space as he slowly caught onto your feelings for Hank. You smile at Hank. ā€œOnly a couple more weeks of this, huh?ā€ you quip. Hank chuckles. ā€œYep. Youā€™re lucky, you only have to deal with two more weeks of this ugly mug. Connor over there has to put up with it until further notice,ā€ he responds, motioning to Connor in the car with the sandwich in his hands. ā€œYouā€™re going to miss him, arenā€™t ya?ā€ he says, laughing. A look of confusion spreads across your face, and you look at him with furrowed brows. ā€œMiss who?ā€ Hank gives you a knowing look. ā€œConnor.ā€ He says, as though itā€™s the most obvious statement in the world. You are thoroughly perplexed by this. ā€œOh, uhā€¦ Yeah? I guess so.ā€ Youā€™re not sure what the point of the question is, but you finish your lunch anyway, not much of a word from either of you as you finish eating.
Back at the station, Hankā€™s words repeat like a broken record in your head. You sit with him, once again in Connorā€™s absence, as the two of you quietly work on filing through cases. Suddenly, Hank speaks. ā€œYou know, I think you should tell him how you feel.ā€ You sit up, crossing your arms and leaning back in your chair. ā€œHank, what in godā€™s name are you talking about?ā€ you demand, looking incredulously at him. He looks back up at him. ā€œConnor. You should tell him how you feel. I mean, even when thereā€™s no case, youā€™re always hanging around. You always seem to laugh when youā€™re with him, and you blush all the time. I think before your training is done, you should tell him how you feel.ā€ You stand up, running your hand through your hair and sighing, pacing slightly away from your chair as you are struck with disbelief, not knowing how to respond. Youā€™ve never in all your years seen someone be so dense. He starts to talk again. ā€œListen, I didnā€™t mean to stress you out, I just think-ā€œ Suddenly, you know exactly what you should do. You spin on your heel, cutting him off as he speaks by grabbing him by the collar and slamming your lips onto his. Hankā€™s hands are suspended in mid-air where they had been while he spoke, and they slowly move to your arms, gently touching you as he begins to kiss back. After a moment, you pull away, smiling. ā€œStill think itā€™s Connor Iā€™ve taken an interest in?ā€ Hank stares at you, a smile slowly creeping onto his lips as seemingly the whole bull pen stares at the two of you in disbelief. Hank chuckles, speechless. And you smirk, returning to your chair, satisfied with yourself as you return to your work. Finally, the man has gotten a fucking clue.

I've been dreaming of the Guardian of the Underworld.
To be human is to experience the highs and lows of life. It is to have joy and to suffer.
An unfortunate truth, he must face--but he holds all the hope in his heart, willing for that brighter future.
How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die?
Tumblr media
Ortho often wonders what dreaming is like.
He visualizes it in a multitude of ways: electric sheep bouncing over a fence until one's eyelids have shut, a movie playing behind his lids, audiovisual data processing in his systems. None of the analogies, he suspects, are anything close to first-hand experience.
Androids cannot sleep, and therefore they cannot dream. That is how the logical flow works, and Ortho has long since accepted it.
It must be fun to dream.
But this is not a dream, and this is not a reality. It is the space contained within, and he walks a razorā€™s edge between lies and truth here.
He puts a hand upon the screen that divides him and his older brother. The barrier separating fact from fiction.
ā€œNii-sanā€¦! It's me,ā€ he calls out in desperation. ā€œIā€™m your little brother, Ortho!!ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½
"Or... tho?" Idia strains to say the name aloud. He looks so lost, so dazed. His head screams with pain. "But Ortho is right here. How can you be in two places at once?"
He holds up his phone, set to speaker. The caller ID--it reads "Ortho". The dream Ortho, the imposter Ortho, the Ortho that is alive. The Ortho that Idia had always wished for, the life without regrets and guilt.
His core burns. Ortho isn't certain if it is from frustration or anger or hurt. He knew this was coming, had been warned of it. Still, nothing could match the real thing, the face of his brother telling him that he is the lie.
ā€œDonā€™t listen to him, Nii-chan. Iā€™m the real Ortho. The other one?ā€ Thereā€™s a faint chuckle from the other end of the lineā€”Ortho detects a hint of condescension in it. ā€œThatā€™s a figment of your imagination."
"Ah... I see," Idia mumbles. He seems to sway, his eyes lidding, as if drifting off to another dream. The pain vanishes, washed away by Ortho's reassurance. "That makes so much sense."
A figment? Just that?
A weight comes upon Ortho's chest. If he were a living being, he would, perhaps, find it difficult to take a breath.
"Don't move. I'm coming there to help you," the other Ortho says sweetly. His tongue, forked as a cobra's goes unnoticed by Idia, who simply nods.
"Nii-san! Don't do it! You have to get away... w-wah!!"
Ortho flinches, his screen suddenly filled with black goo oozing up from the floor. From it, a boy in a pure white uniform and a royal blue sash emerges like a vampire from its coffin. In the place of the pale flesh characteristic of the Shroud family is skin that is only half solid, dripping in fat dark globs as his arms wrap around Idia.
"I'm here now. It'll be okay."
Idia's eyes go blank, his limbs, limp. A compliant doll, under the dream's influence.
Ortho's stomach lurches, and he launches himself at the screen. The urgency in his voice rises, hitting a fever pitch.
"NO...!!"
"You don't have to think about anything," the other Ortho whispers, a snake at Idia's ear. "You must be tired from playing too many games. That's why your mind is compensating by simulating dreams in reality. Let's get you back to bed.ā€
"Okay... Whatever you say, Ortho..."
ā€œNii-san, donā€™t go thereā€¦!ā€
The darkness creeps like vines up his legs, slowly swallowing Idia up. He sinks into the floor, an inky pit of quicksand. Bit by bit, piece by piece, Ortho is losing his brother.
His connection grows fuzzy. Static consumes the screen.
It's no good. My voice... It can't reach him!
His vision burns, but does not become slick with tears. His processors must be overheating, going haywire. He cannot cry, cannot let his overwhelming emotions spill over like a human can.
The ground beneath Ortho shifts. It, too, turns black, as if rotting away. Gooey tendrils reach for him, threatening to drag him under too.
Ortho struggles against his restraints, cries out in defiance.
A voice comes from the monitor, greatly warped and distorted. Then a second, a third, a whole slew of them, spewing vile things.
You are not needed. You are not wanted.
You are worthless. You are nothing--less than nothing.
He is happier without you. He would be happier if you never existed. You could never hope to be his real family.
A massive pair of poisonous verdant eyes opens in the void. They're reptilian, pupils slit against a backdrop of emerald.
"Begone," Malleus hisses, the command coiling around Ortho like a snake. His oppressive presence pushes on the boy, forcing him to kneel. "You do not belong in this world, young Shroud."
"N-No, you're wrong!" he protests. "I... I'm...!!"
A substitute, a spare, the shadows cackle. A hunk of junk. Scrap metal.
His core goes quiet and cold as a terrifying dread sets in. It smothers his circuits, silences his systems, locks his limbs.
The darkness wriggles with delight.
Electricity crackles.
A transmission comes to life. It comes from Ortho himself, from a speaker embedded inside of him.
"Sorry, Or-kun! Mama's going to override...!"
Suddenly, a great heat generates in his chest. Light gathers, piercing the black surrounding him, then fires. The laser is explosive, easily slicing the goop, which erupts into sludgy bubbles.
Ortho comes free, the rockets at the soles of his feet kicking on to propel him into the sky. In a blaze of brilliantly blue fire, he's airborne.
"Mom...!" he gasps.
In response, she simply giggles. "Hehe, I'm not going to just sit on the sidelines and watch my precious baby boy be deceived! There's no wrath like mama's love~"
"Dear..." his father sighs. There's a pause, then he clears his throat. "As your mother was saying, this is but a clever deception. A false reality. You have always been our true son and always will be."
True son.
His dwindling energy reserves shoot through the roof. He's been hit with a thousand suns, reinvigorated.
"Thank you, mom. Thank you, dad. I'm okay! You don't need to worry about me, I understand now."
This was never a dream to begin with. It's not even close. This is... a nightmare that twists the truth, even to intruders!
He places a hand on his chest, feeling the blue flame that perpetually burns there. His brother had lovingly placed it, powered it, protected it. The fire pulsates, proof of his existence.
Proof of his life.
Do you remember, nii-san? You promised we'd go out and play heroes. Now... it's my turn to play hero for you.
I will surpass my limits... break through this illusion... and save you!
Hang in there, Idia. Your little brother, Ortho, is coming to bring you back to your senses! Just leave it to me.
"Shoot for glory among the stars and soar like a comet! Ready or not, here I come...!"
Summoning all of his strength, Ortho furiously plunges into the darkness. It pushes against the interloper--but he burns red hot, flies too fast. He's a shooting star in the shape of a child, filled to the brim with determination.
In the black, black, black, a speck of white appears. It grows steadily, forming a mirror to another world. Its face, staring down at Night Raven College's courtyard.
A familiar trail of blue flames hurries past an apple tree, meeting with a horned man in matching robes.
There you are.
Ortho braces himself--
--and shatters the second sky.

* I have an android phone btw, so that's what this guide is written for :) I don't know much about apple devices. initially, i was planning to figure it out for both types of devices, but i dont currently have an apple device i can use to test things on (im sorry apple users ;-;)
*UPDATE*: Some changes with what vpn options work
-------------
-> Acquiring a VPN *UPDATED*
Ovpnspider is an app you can download in the google play store. All you have to do is download it and then set your location to japan.
The publisher of the game, sumzap, has made it difficult to access their game even with a vpn. As such, most well known vpns will not work. I've done some research and one that still does seem to work (and is free) is ovpnspider.
āœ…ļø VPN acquired!
tbh this app can be hit or miss. Sometimes it works perfectly fine and I have 0 issues, while other times it continuously struggles to properly connect. If you have trouble connecting try choosing a different connection in the app or even restarting your phone.
------------
-> Making a jp google play store account
Before we do anything else, open up your phone settings > apps > google play store > storage > clear data and cache.
Make sure your vpn is on and set to japan.
Next, open the Google play store and let's make our jp account! You don't even have to sign out of your current account. Just click your account icon > then the drop down arrow > add new account > create a new account
āœ…ļø šŸŽ‰ now we have a jp google play store account!!
------------------
-> download the phantom parade app!
Make sure you switch over to your newly made jp account. After doing so you should find yourself in the jp google playstore.
Next, simply search up jujutsu kaisen phantom parade. Even though we are in the jp store you should still be able to type it in English and find it.
Once its finished downloading open up the app....
šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰ aaaaaand we're in šŸ˜Ž
Tumblr media
Tap to start!! It will probably prompt you to check off the terms and conditions and then ask for you to type in a name you wish to use for your in game account.
Next, it will ask to download the rest of the game resources. (this might take awhile)
Tip for navigation: the red button is usually the ok/next/confirm/accept button
āœ…ļø Game installed and ready to play! yay~
--------------------
And that's pretty much it!
Keep in mind whenever you want to play phantom parade you will need to turn your vpn on and have it set to a japanese location otherwise you won't be able to get into the game and will run into a communication error (picture below)
-> * Communication Error
Tumblr media
The game can be really picky at times. If you're having issues and keep getting the error message try restarting your phone, reconnecting to your vpn, and then opening the app again. I found when using ovpnspider that sometimes choosing a different japanese location would fix it too.
Update: Turning notifications for phantom parade off also seems to lessen the frequency of error messages.
-> Translation overlay
Having difficulty navigating the menus or understanding what's going on? Consider downloading a translation overlay app!
Tumblr media
Using this will allow you to translate all the text on the screen with the press of a single button. Unfortunately, the translation isn't very good, but it's decent enough to gain a basic understanding of things. It often has trouble properly translating character names just because of how kanji works. In the example above, you can see it often will translate yuji's name to yuhito lol.
The app i often use for this is called bubble translate and can be found in the google play store. It's super simple to set up and use!
-> Free SSR ticket
Tumblr media
Just a small note, but after you finish the tutorial for the game you will be gifted with a ticket for an SSR character of your choice. When you first use it, it will pull a random SSR character. If it's not the character you wanted, don't worry you will be given the option to re roll or accept. Just keep re rolling until it pulls the character you want.
The SSR characters that can be pulled are:
Satoru Gojo
Yuji Itadori
Megumi Fushiguro
Nobara Kugisaki
Panda
Toge Inumaki
Maki Zenin
Kento Nanami
Aoi Todo
--------------------
And that's everything! I hope you have fun with the game and good luck with your gacha pulls! I hope you all get your faves!!
I might make a more in depth guide on how to actually play the game detailing the gameplay and the different characters/abilities/events/ect. if enough ppl are interested (???)
If you have any questions feel free to send me a message via ask or dm and I'll do my best to respond. šŸ©·šŸ©·šŸ©·
ā™”---ā™”---ā™”---ā™”---ā™”

How to Steal Youtube like your Dad Stole Cable: A non-comprehensive guide.
Piracy is cool and you should do it.
I mean it, I fully condone the theft of copyrighted material online for the masses. You should consider the relative prices of a sturdy VPN to the cost of all your monthly streaming subscriptions and see what I mean: The mere fact that so many of these services trade the same movies back and forth on a bi-monthly basis only proves one thing, They don't respect you or your hard earned money. The prices go up, the services offered get more narrow and ill-defined, and worse to boot, but the torrent sites still exist and they still have everything I could ever want.
There are other guides on how to get any movie or album you want online, and maybe I'll write another, but today I want to talk you through something different. Piracy for the modern age, stealing something that would make the eyes of any tin-foil antenna wielding cable pirate misty with pride.
Let's get around youtube's bullshit under the jump:
We're going for the big dog. We're goingā€¦ for youtube premium. I'm writing this guide with Firefox and Android in mind, but as far as I'm aware this will work more or less on chromium based browsers as well.
The two web extensions you'll need for your desktop:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sponsorblock/
If you're like me and find yourself in a youtube death spiral more often than you wish, you might want this one too:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-youtube-shorts/
Now, we address the app on your phone. Real heads have known about this trick for years, but it recently came to my attention.
ReVanced is a revival of the original Vanced app modding tool, and what it lets us do is very simple: bypass restrictions in many of our favorite apps like youtube, duolingo and others, so that we can get back essential features that have been paywalled. Specifically for youtube, we can now access off-screen playback, windowed playback, ad-free viewing, and we even GAIN a feature for our trouble, sponsor block, which uses crowdsourced data to find and skip embedded sponsor spots in videos. Think Squarespace and raid:shadow legends.
When you're installing revanced, you need to be careful not to install a pre-made hacked .apk, you really need to apply them yourself because nefarious users are everywhere and WILL send you malware. The ReVanced Manager app makes it very easy anyway, so you shouldn't need to rely on pre-hacked apks anyway.
You can get revanced from their page. Make sure it's the real deal, because there ARE fakes around.
You can find a current or slightly out-of-date youtube app around online very easily if you search. A slightly out of date apk is preferable here, as it means more of the hacks will work out of the box. If you've already downloaded the ReVanced app, then it will suggest a version for you to download.
"What about my TV?!" I haven't done this one personally, though I do intend to soon. My understanding is that you can use the command line on your fireTV stick to download a hacked app there as well! It's not an Enter The Matrix-tier operation, you just have to type a couple lines into a console. Super simple!
"Why aren't there more links in this post?" The companies have the internet too, and you probably know how to use it a bit more than they do. Posting links is like handing info to the enemy.

šŸŒ™ WITCH TIP šŸŒ™
(this is one post in a mini-series about witchy apps i use)
My favorite app for tracking the moon phases, the zodiac its in, its rise and set time, and a bunch of other things is the Deluxe Moon app! Itā€™s my favorite for a variety of reasons
It has lots of incredibly helpful widgets in all sizes
It has a huge variety of information on those widgets, and even more in-app
It offers a bunch of that great info and widgets for FREE
There are multiple purchase options as well that Iā€™m sure are extremely helpful, BUT I use the free version and Iā€™m still satisfied with that
The biggest downside to me personally are the fact that the color of the widgets doesnt match my phone theme lmfao so ive just hidden them in widget stacks for easy access and in my Todays View page so the blue doesnt interrupt my theme. Theres also a lot of content that I wish was free, but none of the content you have to pay for is on any other app that Iā€™ve found lol and this app for free has more than most!
Tumblr media
This is the app! I have an iphone, idk if its available to android and othersā€”lmk if it is? But yeah! I have multiple moon apps and this is my fave (mostly due to the great widgets, which are very important to me lol)! Hope this helps other stargazers and witches that work with the moon :)

Ima rant a little about Pinterest.
app is great, only issue is the app being total ass on Iphone, some of the buttons donā€™t function properly as it did before; including the analytics, however, thatā€™s not bad compared to the crashes iā€™ve faced where it crash the app, and when I go back in iā€™m completely logged out, i just wish they fix this problem instead of removing more features no one asked for to be removed, do they even listen to feedback? probably not and thatā€™s not surprising.
but somehow this crap isnā€™t really a problem over on android or Ipad, personal experience at least. but i have to be completely honest, the mobile version just sucks ass.
Edit: Or just restart my phone for the buttons to work, but after an hr or so of using the app it does it again, and repeat. itā€™s a cycle šŸ˜”

Do you know if it's worth it to buy the Galaxy Broad Shop version of sukekiyo's new release for someone who lives overseas? I'm talking specifically about the NeSTREAM live card thing. First time hearing about it but it seems the app is not even available in my country (and apparently it only works with devices compatible with Dolby Atmos, which I think at least my phone supports). Is there a way to work around it or am I essentially screwed?
I'd be in the same mess myself!
Based on a quick research, apparently the app is exclusive to Japan, but there is an "apk" version which works for us...? Without the codes, I can't vouch for it, but this seems like the only solution available:
Not sure about iOS...
Otherwise, let's say we're out of luck for that NeSTREAM-exclusive footage, the release still comes with re-recordings of many songs, new MVs, different video footage on a BluRay, probably some nice pictures in the booklet, etc. I wish there were more new songs, but I will still purchase it.

Wish List For A Dumb Phone
I have a dumb phone with 20 days of standby time. It's getting old. I might need to buy another one soon.
I only really need that phone for phone stuff. It's small and light. It's my backup in places where my smartphone does not have reception.
A replacement would need physical buttons, and have bar or flip phone form factor, preferably in a blight green or orange colour. It should be a dual-SIM quad-band with GSM for basic phone calls, SMS and MMS, and 4G or 5G connectivity. The web browsing or download speed doesn't really matter.
In terms of featurephone features, I don't need twitter, facebook, whatsapp, or any of those built-in apps. I want the ability to take pictures, play MP3 and OGG files, record audio, play audio, browse the file system, and assign audio files as custom ringtones. E-mail is optional.
The hardware features I want are an SD card slot, a 240p camera or better, a light, FM radio (DAB would be a plus), a replaceable battery, bluetooth for tethering and audio headsets, and USB-C for tethering, charging, and file transfer. It doesn't have to be USB-PD or USB 3.0.
There are some features that would be nice. It would be nice to have a playlist that I can sync with a desktop podcatcher application. It would be nice to be able to move contacts between the SIM card and the SD card in bulk, and to sync contacts with my NextCloud address book with a desktop application. It would be nice if I could mount my phone's file system via USB.
All these features boil down to this: My dumb phone is a bit beat up. I wish I could just replace it with a slightly newer model with USB-C, but otherwise it doesn't need apps or wlan.
There is no phone out there that is just slightly better than my old dumb phone, and can be charged via USB. Once you have all the hardware and features, you might as well slap Android on there, and a more powerful processor, and sell it on features.
It's sad. There are many dumb phones that are almost better than my old one. There is one that is just like my old one, but with 4G instead of 3G, but no USB-C. There is one that looks great, but all reviews say the software is buggy and bluetooth doesn't work reliably. There is one with loads of features that has a couple of days of standby time, not weeks.
There's also one that has all the features but costs more than a smartphone.
All I really want is a Nokia 215 with USB-C, tethering, and a comfortable way to sync my stuff to a PC.

Hi, first of all allow me to say congrats for finishing your current IF project. To tell you the truth I've been anticipating this one since you first uploaded the demo back then on Dashingdon. I recently found and followed you on Tumblr just to make sure the game wasn't being abandoned. I'm truly ecstatic after you announced the release date. So, I just want to ask, will it be possible for you to also make this game available to be purchased straight through ITCH.IO website or Google Play Store (On Android)? Cause I just checked on Steam, it's only playable for Windows and iPhone. (I mean I can play it on my laptop or computer but i'll be great if I can play it on my phone as well. I'm currently using Android) If not, it's also fine though. I will still definitely purchase it from Steam. I just can't wait for it to be fully released šŸ˜. Thank you šŸ˜Š have a great day....
Hi there! Thank you for your message šŸ˜Š
I've been getting dozens of asks about the same topic, so allow me to clarify:
Arcadie: Second-Born will be released on Steam (2 more days to go!), for PC (Windows) and Mac computers. The Steam version is not meant to work on mobile devices (tablets, smartphones).
Mobile versions: Not sure if I'm even going to do this, but I may give access to a mobile version of the game through Patreon. It'd be a bit cumbersome, but it'd be an option if you absolutely want to play on mobile.
If you want to own the game outright, though, getting it on Steam is the best option.
I wish you a great day as well!

Finally I cracked a phone screen. First time ever since Iā€™ve had a smart phone. Iā€™m careful about handling them, but something happened and I joined the crowd.
That phone still works. But itā€™s old and the cracks drive me nuts. A good excuse to buy a new phone. The old one Iā€™ll keep for a backup.
Apple isnā€™t my brand. When phone shopping I sort of wish it was. You can pick which latest generation you want, with a small number of variations or sizes.Ā
I am sticking with Android. At my local phone store, that gave me a choice of multiple brands. Each branch has too many models for my taste. I understand iPhone 12 versus iPhone 13. Samsung A54 versus Samsung S21? Please...
So I set a price point and made an appointment with someone to help me. The guy was super nice. Phone shopping reminds me of laptop purchasing. Decide how much memory you want, select a screen size, and set a price range. The brand doesnā€™t matter much. Thatā€™s why the employee more or less shrugged his shoulders when I showed him the four similarly priced phones. It mattered little which one I chose.
So I picked one. I didnā€™t want to pay the store to transfer everything. The DIY process at home was easy and fairly fast. The only problem was I had to re-enter a lot of sign-on and password information. That was a pain. Luckily I had a source of all this information and didnā€™t need to re-set any passwords.
Now itā€™s 97% set up. I still have to tweak some apps. LIke the Ring doorbell app that keeps telling me someone is walking down my street--every 15 minutes, or the text messaging app that isnā€™t giving me sound notifications. Easy remedies, Iā€™m sure, but I have to work, eat, sleep. Phone settings are an annoyance to me now.

Pairing: RK900/Gavin Reed
Tags: Post Pacifist Ending, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Slow Burn, Eventual Smut, Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Masterlist
Read on AO3 here:
Summary: A lot has changed since the revolution. Crimes against androids are now punished in the same way as crimes against humans. A reluctant Gavin Reed and his new partner RK900 have been assigned to investigate a string of disturbing murders. Despite the shift in Detroit's social climate, Gavin still holds reservations about whether or not androids are truly alive. Will his developing feelings for 'Nines' be the thing to change this?
Warnings: Graphic Violence, Depression/Self Destructive Behaviour, Eventual Smut
Word Count: 3.5K
'Mikeys Electronics' contained little more than a few sparsely filled display cases, some racks of cables and headphones, and a wide range of snacks hanging off the sales counter. A large, unwashed-looking man sat behind the register. He was wearing a wireless headset and staring intently at his phone, seemingly engrossed by whatever he was looking at.
"Hey buddy, how's it going?" Gavin awaited a reply. The man ran a finger under his nose, snorting unpleasantly, before returning his attention to the screen.Ā
"Hello?" Gavin tried again, snapping his fingers in front of the man, but to no avail "Anyone home?"
"He cannot hear you. There is no point in persisting," Nines informed, "Not to worry, I am confident I can secure his attention."Ā
The android reached forward and lightly tapped the side of the man's headset. A sharp buzzing sound emanated from it, loud enough to be heard from across the counter. The man let out a pained hiss, ripping the device off his ears and throwing it to the ground.
"What the fuck? Useless piece of -"
"Good day Sir," Nines said firmly, making its presence known. The man reeled back in surprise, staring at the android with fevered eyes. "Officer RK900, Serial Number 313 248 317 ā€“ 87, and Detective Reed. There are a few questions we wish to ask you. If you can spare us the time."
Once recovered from his initial shock, the man's surprised expression morphed into deep displeasure. He let out an angry grunt, placing his phone down. "I was actually in the middle of something important. So no, I don't have time."
Gavin glanced at the counter, noting how the phone had been set face down. Clever, but ultimately pointless. Nines did not waver in performing a scan of the device, to which its eyebrows raised in bemusement.
"Are you sure about that?"
The man stared at Nines incredulously - before his eyes bulged wide in realisation. He snatched the phone from the counter, shoving it hastily into his sweatpants. "You can't be scanning my phone like that! It's private property."
"There are no laws which prohibit the use of my scanners. Although I suppose it could be considered 'poor form'," Nines paused momentarily, LED spinning yellow "Much like viewing indecent material in a workplace environment."
The man's face contorted comedically. His brow grew remarkably tense, skin near-purple with exertion. "You've got a lot of nerve. Coming intoĀ  my Ā store, insultingĀ  my Ā lifestyle -"
"So you are the owner of this establishment? While we are talking legalities, I feel there is something I ought to point out", Nines gestured to a notice pinned above the store entrance. While the paper was worn and the text faded, the message was still clearly legible:
Ā
Ā
NO ANDROIDS ALLOWED.
Ā
Ā
"As you may be aware, recent changes in legislation mean that anti-android admission policies are no longer permitted. Displaying notices such as these acts in direct violation of the Android Equality Act - and is punishable by fines up to $5000, or 6 months imprisonment."
The man seemed unmoved by the warning, letting out a dismissive snort. "It's only been a couple months since the rules changed. Must've forgotten to take that down. My mistake."Ā
"It is a mistake that could cost you dearly", Nines dissuaded, "I would suggest that you remove the offending material as an urgent priority."
The man snorted again, louder, phlegm shifting in the back of his throat. He shot Nines a withering look. "What the hell is your problem, officer ?" He put stress on the end of his sentence, forming air quotes with his meaty fingers, "Can't have been one for long, can you? Enjoying the power trip?"
Gavin knew he would have to step in for there to be any chance the man may cooperate. Creating a barrier between him and Nines, he flashed the store owner a large grin. "Don't mind my partner. It gets a little zesty when it's due an oil change."
Gavin stepped backwards, forcing Nines to do the same. Once they had pulled back a suitable distance, he subtly leaned over to whisper into its ear. "Look, I'll handle chuckles. Just do what you need to do."Ā
"Gladly - that man is revolting. I doubt he's bathed himself in weeks."
After taking a moment to regain its composure, the android paced its way down the narrow store. Gavin took a smooth side-step back to the counter, hands slung casually into his pockets.Ā
"You got any CCTV in here?" I'm not seeing any monitors."
"Hell no - You know how expensive that is?"
"Oh, I hear that", Gavin replied, forcing a chuckle. "Seems kinda brave, though. This is a rough area. Gotta protect your interests."
The man narrowed his gaze, "Maybe the crime rates wouldn't be so high if you fuckers actually did your job."Ā
Gavin combatted the urge to rise to the bait, albeit with some exertion. His teeth clenched together instinctively - before he could morph the expression into something resembling a smile.Ā
"You know, I must have walked past this place a thousand times, but I've never been inside" Gavin swiftly changed the subject, leaning against the counter. "I remember when this was a deli: My friend Tina said their subs were the absolute tits. Shame I never got to try one."
"...They were pretty good", The owner admitted, grunting. "Sorry, I don't mean to be rude. The names' Mikey Scott." He extended a hand towards Gavin, which the detective gently clasped.Ā
"Gavin Reed, nice to meet ya", he said back, trying not to grimace at the unpleasant wetness of Mikey's palms. "I don't want to take up too much of your time. I'm just here to ask some questions."Ā
Mikey shrugged his shoulders. "Well shoot, I guess - but I dunno what help I'll be."
Gavin pulled out his notepad, leafing over to a clean sheet. With his pen poised over the page, he looked up at Mikey, "Do you remember anyone suspicious coming into the store on January 13th - or the days leading up to that?"
Mikey pursed his lips, looking up to his right, before shaking his head. "Nope, no one of interest. To be honest, it's only the regulars I see comin' in these days. I don't bother them, and they don't bother me."
"Anyone that might have bought an old Samsung Galaxy?" Gavin pressed on, taking notes, "I'm talking 2010's old. Real hunk of crap. Probably a SIM card as well - AT&T?"
"Nah, I don't carry phones that old. Sorry."Ā
"That is incorrect", Nines interjected, looking up from the shelves it had been examining. "You carry several phones with the same manufacturer date."
The store owner folded his arms, shooting Nines a glare. "So what if I do? I don't remember the release dates of every fuckin' phone I sell."
"It is concerning that you seem unaware of the stock you carry. With that sort of lax approach, it is no wonder that your business is struggling."Ā
Gavin could see Mikey tense up. He mouthed a not-so-subtle Ā 'shut the fuck up'Ā  over to his partner, but the damage had already been done.Ā
Mikey slapped his thighs before standing up from his chair. The legs let out a squeak of release as his ample weight was hoisted from them. "I'm sorry, Gavin, you seem decent, but I'm gettin' pretty sick of your 'partner's' attitude. If you ain't got any more questions, I think we're done. Cuz I ain't about to sit and be lectured all day by a damn - "Ā
Nines shot a hand up, "I would refrain from finishing that sentence, Mr Scott. We have good reason to believe that one of your customers was responsible for the murder of an HR400 android, with the wares my partner just described having acted as accessories in the crime."
"I already told you, no one suspicious came around here."Ā
"I can detect when you are lying. Besides, we already know they were here. We have a witness."
Gavin tried to hide his surprise at Nines' shameless bluff. It was disturbing how convincingly it could lie, uninhibited by the drawback of tells. There were no twitchy eyelids or strange fidgeting. Its LED remained a calm blue so as not to betray its deception.
"I - uh", Mikey faltered, looking uncomfortable. "There was nobody suspicious", He parroted haplessly.Ā
"If your claim that 'only regulars' frequent your establishment is to be believed, then anyone new coming into your store would have undoubtedly struck you as 'suspicious'" Nines was close to the counter now, grey eyes narrowed into slits. "So either you are misremembering things, or you are once again lying. I already know which one it is, but perhaps you could save us the time and admit it. Lest I make you."
"You can't threaten me," Mikey fired back, although he sounded unsure of his words. "I-I have my rights."
Nines leaned forward across the desk until it was almost nose-to-nose with the heavily perspiring man. "It is not a threat. It is a promise. Should you want it to be."
Gavin had to admit that even he felt uncomfortable, despite not being the one under pressure. There was no denying that the android exuded a profoundly imposing aura. One that demanded respect and cooperation at any expense. Mikey's throat bobbed uncomfortably as he quickly lost all remaining steel. Sitting back down with a huff, he buried his face in his hands, grumbling out a confession:
"Someone new came in. Few days ago - either Wednesday or Thursday, I can't remember - but I don't think he bought a Samsung. He wanted somethin' else."
"It would appear that he settled", Nines pointed towards the far end of the store to a case that seemed reserved for budget models. "It just so happens that a Samsung S3 is missing from that display. It can't have sold that long ago, as you have yet to remove the price card."
"That don't mean he bought it", Mikey protested, bringing his hands down to scratch at one of his forearms. "Could've sold it to anyone."
"Would you have any transaction records from that day? Perhaps these could provide some clarity."
"Whatever this guy may have done, it doesn't have shit to do with me. So why am I being treated like a damn criminal?"
"If you truly had nothing to hide, then you wouldn't be so defensive."
"What the hell do ya want from me?" Mikey groaned dramatically, throwing up his hands. "Look, I'll tell you what I saw, but only if you promise to get out of my damn store."
"Agreed", Nines turned to Gavin, gesturing at his notepad ", Detective Reed - if you would be so kind as to take the statement."
Had they been in any other circumstance, Gavin wouldn't have hesitated to tell Nines exactly where it could shove its demand. The detailed instructions would have to wait, with more pressing matters at hand.Ā
Gavin stared down at his pen, slowly touching it to the paper. "Just tell me anything you remember."
Over the next few minutes, Mikey regaled Gavin with the suspect's physical description. It was unusually meticulous, with him able to describe everything down to the suspect's shoes. Gavin was keenly writing away as Nines watched on, saying nothing.Ā
"Hope that's enough for you to work with", Mikey huffed out, "Now make good on your word, and get the hell out."Ā
Leaving the store, Gavin was still reviewing his notes, elated to have made some sort of progress. He seldom noticed how Nines had yet to make a sound, looking to the ground with its LED whirring. Seemingly lost in thought.Ā
"Well, shit. Good call on that lead, tin-can", Gavin congratulated. "Once we get this down to the station and have the boys draw up a sketch, we'll finally - "
"You may as well throw that description out," Nines cut him off. "It is less than worthless."
"...What the fuck do you mean it's worthless?"
"I will be of no practical use. The witness was lying."Ā
"Then why did you let me write it all down?" Gavin gawked at his partner in total disbelief - before frustratedly ripping the page from his notebook and throwing it away. "God damn it, Nines, were you on standby for the last 10 minutes?"
"Mr Scott was not prepared to relinquish any meaningful truths. Even if I had subjected him to physical persuasion, cooperation would have been unlikely" Nines turned a corner around the store, rounding it as it looked for a crosswalk. "I was simply curious to see the lengths he would go to in maintaining his lie."
"And why is that?"
"I believe he is covering for someone."
Gavin was brought to a sudden halt as his chest collided with something hard. Looking down, he saw an elderly man barely holding himself steady on a flimsy wire-frame walker. "Whoa, I'm sorry, didn't see you there."
"Watch it. Bot." the man spat out the word like a slur, staring at Nines viciously. His eyes were red, and his breath was hoppy. It was evident that he had been drinking.Ā
Gavin took a step back, a little perturbed by the sudden aggression. "Cool it, gramps. I was the one that hit you."
The old man glanced at Gavin briefly and let out a huff. "You just came out of Mikey's, didn't ya?" His attention was back on Nines, leering forward over his walker. "Didn't you read the signs? He doesn't want your kind in there."
It was Nines' turn to be surprised, as its eyes widened a small fraction. "I beg your pardon?"
"You heard me" The old man looked it up and down, thin lips pulled into a harsh grimace. "He doesn't want you freaks in his store. Show some damn respect."
Nines didn't allow itself to be disarmed for long by the hateful rhetoric, as it quickly came to its own defence "Mr Scott has no legal grounds to prohibit androids from his business. I had as much of a right to be there as any other person."
"You ain't no person", the old man spat back. "They found a bunch of you in a warehouse the other day. I saw it on the news."
"I assume you are referring to unconverted androids", Nines attempted to clarify. "It is quite a common occurrence, nothing particularly newsworthy."
"No, I mean they foundĀ you ", the old man responded firmly, using a bony finger to jab at the identifier on Nines' jacket. He swayed forward as he did so before balancing himself on his walker. "They had your face. Hundreds of them. It's damn ungodly - how all you bastards look the same."
While it may not have been evident to the old man, Gavin could immediately tell that something had struck a nerve in his partner. Nines LED was flickering, and its lips had started to twitch. He was beginning to notice how often that would happen. Whenever it was feeling angry. Or threatened.
"They tried to get those terrorists at Jericho in, but they wouldn't touch 'em with a ten-foot pole. So they locked them back up."
Nines said nothing in response, and the old man let out a chuckle, his voice airy with twisted delight. "Seems like your own kind doesn't even want you. So why don't you do us all a favour and go back to where you came from?"
Oh, fuck no -Ā  "That's enough."
Gavin's mouth had engaged before he could even attempt to stop himself. The look Nines gave him mirrored his own surprise. Unsure what else to do, Gavin tried to play off his actions as nonchalantly as possible. He rolled his eyes at the old man, placing a hand on his walker and pushing it backwards. "Run along, gramps. Your catheter bag needs changing."
The old man gawked in surprise, his flushed face reddening further. "Smart-mouthed punk, what's it to ya?"
"Detective Smart-mouthed punk", Gavin corrected, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his ID. "The plastic prick you are harassing is my partner, and we are in the middle of an investigation. So I suggest you skedaddle before I arrest you for causing an obstruction."Ā
The old man produced a series of incoherent grunts and grumbles. Gavin was ultimately able to decipher 'android-loving fairy', amongst other insults, as he slowly sauntered away.Ā
"What a peach", Gavin shook his head in disbelief, turning to Nines. "You were saying. About this guy trying to protect someone?"
Nines stared at Gavin, looking both dumbfounded and deeply apprehensive. It clearly wanted to say something, as its mouth gaped open and close, but no words came out.Ā
Gavin shrugged. "Whatever, we can talk later. Let's get moving."
The atmosphere was profoundly tense as the two continued down the road. Nines had seemingly failed to recover from whatever malfunction the old drunk had caused. It had a vacant look, which Gavin could only describe as a thousand-yard stare. In his line of work, he was no stranger to looks of deep shock or trauma, but he had never once predicted that he'd see it on a machine.Ā
It didn't make any sense. Nines wasn't some robo-nancy. It was designed to withstand intense amounts of physical and psychological stress. It should have been capable of bouncing back from an encounter with a senile old man.Ā
"Thank you."
The gratitude was an unexpected curveball, to which Gavin reeled, "Sorry, Nines, I think I'm hallucinating. What did you just say?"
"Thank you", His partner reaffirmed clearly. "I was surprised how readily you jumped to my defence. Given how much you supposedly despise meā€¦also given that you likely agreed with most of what that man was saying."
"I didn't -" The words came fast. It was an instinctive reaction to defend himself. Albeit, Gavin wasn't entirely sure what he was defending. "Well, not everything, anyway."
"I would wager you agreed with enough'" Nines glanced at Gavin, albeit fleetingly, before returning its attention to the path ahead. "Given your previous assertion that they should have left me 'in the warehouse to rot'"
Shit. The memories came back to him quickly. Their first day in the station.
Shooting up from his desk, readying to round Nines with a punch. The hateful vitriol spat from his mouth as he was blinded by rage. At the time, it had seemed so innocuous. Similar to how he abused Connor prior to his deviation. It seemed justified in his head.
But hearing his words spoken back to him, Gavin was left bearing an uncomfortable weight. The pressure manifested into something unpleasant - a sudden, twisting sense of guilt. Would he have acted so harshly to a human? Or was it an act of punishment towards Nines, simply for being the byproduct of his loathed brother and his twisted visions?
If he sought to punish Nines for being what it was, then what did that make him, exactly?Ā
At the point of questioning ethics, however, Gavin managed to free himself from his fleeting bout of madness.Ā
Come on, get a grip,Ā  he chided inwardly. This isn't a person. It's Robocop.
Androids couldn't be harmed by physical afflictions, so emotional damage seemed absurd. Nines didn't care what Gavin thought of him, nor did it concern itself with the views of anyone else. He was projecting humanity where it didn't exist, and Gavin needed to stop it before it drove him insane.
"That guy was wasted", Gavin rationalised, "I wasn't going to stand there all day and listen to him run his mouth. I told him to beat it because he was pissing me off. That's all."
Nines gave Gavin a dubious look - but nodded in quiet acceptance. "Nevertheless, I am grateful."Ā
As they waited at a crosswalk, the android stood close to Gavin's side. "It would appear my assessment the other day was accurate. Past all the rudeness and forced bravado, there exists a kindness in you. Even for androids."
Gavin groaned, swinging his head back. "Don't you start on that sentimental bullshit. I should have left you to deal with the old man, you smug fuckin' prick."
The lights changed, and Nines stepped forward. Its face relaxed slightly, no longer tinged red from its LED. Gavin saw the unmistakable pulling of its mouth, forming a curved outline on its lips.Ā
Don't you dare -Ā
Nines frequently sneered or smirked, but it didn't smile. Not for anything. Not for Anderson or Connor, and certainly not for the man it had so lovingly described as 'incompetent'.Ā
Yet there it was. A smile.
It wasn't goofy like Connor's. It was decidedly more dignified. A little crooked but charmingly so, offset with just the right amount of perfectly straight teeth. It left Gavin desperately confused, as well as rendered totally speechless. He couldn't fathom how CyberLife had replicated something so perfectly human. So sickeningly genuine.Ā
He couldn't look for much longer, despairing of how something so simple - so effortless - had the power to completely warp his mind. He needed a long shower after all this. Not to mention a drink.Ā
