We tune back into our regularly scheduled program of HOTGUY! You had many questions and we have the answers! Keep an eye peeled on our socials as we continue updating you further on news about GHOST ISSUES and the physical release!

What is a zine? Why do you call this a Zinethology?

The traditional definition of a zine is typically a small, self-published booklet, often handcrafted and circulated in limited quantity. Fanzines are typically collections of art and writing from various creators brought together under a common theme, group, character(s), or just based within its fandom in general. The HOTGUY COMICS Zinethology originally started out as a simple comic-themed zine with vaguely interconnected stories that are implied to be set within the same universe. However, as the scope of this project changed and evolved, the team elected to call our project a Zinethology instead, due to its atypical nature— especially in comparison to the rest of the fanzine community.

Is your zine monetized?

No, this zine is��� and always will be— a free-to-download PDF with accompanying folders for its digital merch. In addition, any revenue we make from our upcoming physical releases will be donated to charity.

I can't download your zine. How can I still read it?

If you're having problems downloading our zine, you can check out our troubleshooting guide and try a few methods listed there first. If you are still having issues, you can reach out to itch.io for additional help, or simply visit our blog on tumblr to read the whole zine here.

Will there be a second volume?

The team is currently in our creation period for the Ghost Issues, a bonus Zinethology set in the HOTGUY COMICS universe that fleshes out plot points and additional pitches that were passed over in the first volume. Once that is complete, we will take a hiatus before starting to look into our plans for a second volume. Keep an eye on our socials to stay updated for any news!

What are Ghost Issues?

Ghost Issues is the name we came up with for our bonus Zinethology set within the universe of HOTGUY COMICS. As a "DLC" to the first volume, this Zinethology will cover various stories, arcs, and characters who were sadly passed over due to plot constraints in the original volume.

Will there be a physical release?

Yes! Our team is currently working on a physical release for both Volume One and Ghost Issues! As of now, we are still in our creation period, so please stay tuned on our socials for upcoming news!

Will there be limited stock?

Yes, this will be a limited release of both Volume 1 and Ghost Issues.

Will you print any more?

While our team cannot promise there will be any reprints of HOTGUY COMICS after this, the Zinethologies are formatted so that they may be printed and bound at your personal convenience.

When will the physical releases of HOTGUY COMICS Zinethology and Ghost Issues come out?

As of right now, we are still in the creation period for Ghost Issues, so we do not have a set date for pre-orders. Keep a lookout on our socials to stay informed on any updates to our schedule, and we hope to see you once the finished product is finally released!

💫 What's this about a physical comic book?

You've probably heard it by now, but we're so happy to announce Ghost Issues!

With returning comic artists, writers, page illustrators and merch artists, we'll have stories and illustrations covering arcs, characters and so much more that the readers didn't get to explore into the world of HOTGUY COMICS!

IT'S DONE. MY BOOKBOUND PHYSICAL HGCZ GOLDEN ERA. if you have read hgcz read it NOW. literally right now you can find it at @hotguycomiczine it will change your life

i've been working on this since january (mostly due to the budgeting issues involving printing), and i believe have just narrowly completed this in a shorter timeframe than the actual zine (sheer embarrassment for taking so long was a great motivation). and YES i found out there was an official physical edition in production about 90% of the way through

i did draw a new cover and design a book jacket for golden era! i've never done something like that before so it was a great challenge

genuinely, hgcz might be one of the greatest pieces of art to ever come out of a fandom. i absolutely loved like. everything about the overarching story and all the details that went into this i could ramble on for hours. i have so sososo much more respect for everyone who worked on this now that i tried creating smth adjacent. this whole project, especially as a fandom related collaborative effort, is just incredible to me

there's a lot of stuff i tried to put into the golden era cover

i really liked the original wormtime cover, so the colors are very inspired by that

photograph meant to show the duo at the beginning of Golden Era, for the contrast with isjasz's polaroid by Legacy

hg is angling the camera to catch himself first and foremost, cg being in there is almost an afterthought. he's still a prideful guy!

speaking of which, they're angled away from each other as they're still not fully working together as a team

cuteguy and hotguy designs a mashup of several creators (particularly tibby-art for cuteguy and chrisrin for hotguy)

cg's eyes are visible but hg's visor hides hishg's scars are also slightly visible as reflections, including a harsh reflection across his left eye. hmmm..

my hotguy and cuteguy refs for the cover. you can see which other artists from hgcz i took inspiration from i think

i had. so many issues. with the physical pages. sometimes my spacing would be off and some parts of the comic would get cut off and i'd have to go buy them again (i don't have a color printer). and i couldn't afford to buy all 172 pages at once so i split the trips up biweekly. anyway it was just a whole process. i ended up with so many offprints i had enough to bookbind an extra hgcz scraps book.

How much do you think the physical release will cost?

Hello there! This is still something we're looking into, so we don't have any concrete ideas on pricing as of yet. However, we do plan to print the entirety of Volume 1 (all 400+ pages) so that will likely bump the price a bit.

Once things are finalized behind the scenes for Ghost Issues, we will post a Physical Release Interest Check to narrow down price ranges and affordable shipping fees. Keep an eye on our blog for any announcements from us!

If there is a future zine produced, would there be new artists involved? If that is the case, would there be some sort of application system to join the team?

Hello! Yes, if we decide to pursue a Volume 2, we would be opening it up to new contributors! As far as we know now, any future apps we'd make will look similar if not identical to the application process of Volume 1.

Make sure to keep an eye on our blog, and you'll likely catch any news or apps we might eventually share!
