How did you get into the fandom?  I came to tumblr to find gifs and stumbled into fic and an active fandom.

How long have you been here? One year today!!! I made this thing on June 6th and posted two drabbles the first day. A @galladrabbles for "Still Into You" by Paramore and a drabble based on @darthvaders-wife art!!

What’s the first fandom channel you found? (Youtube, Reddit, Tumblr, Insta, Twitter, FB, other?) Tumblr! I'm not looking anywhere else.

what’s your favourite now?  Tumblr.

Which mutual have you known the longest in the fandom? I'm not sure? I think it took me a week to insert myself into Nosho and Cameron's trans Mickey thoughts. That's the first interaction I remember, anyway.

Which tumblerino’s did you have your first fandom crush(es) on and wanted to get to know? Let me be for real for a second. I have too many tumblr crushes to name! If I've ever tagged you or replied to your post or written elaborate embarrassing tags on your stuff, it's probably you! I spend 97% of my time feeling awkward and/or depressed but we're all friends in my head.

First Gallavich fan fic you read (or that blew you away that you remember) I accessed @thegallavault really early on and I think Cooperative Gameplay was the first long fic I read and I really enjoyed it.

First fan art that blew your mind?  I am very much not an artist so I kind of have my mind blown all the time and I could list so many but @harukanaaaa's baby Ian makes me feel INSANE. I found it kind of soon after becoming active and idk man, something about it just melts me inside.

Fanfic trope that you were sure wasn’t for you but now you low key (or high key) love? I was about to say ABO and realized that's a LIE. I still don't really like it. But there are specific fics in this fandom that I've enjoyed. And Sports AUs. Loving them a lot, surprisingly.

What surprised you most about this fandom? I felt super welcomed right from the beginning which I didn't expect at all. It's also more diverse in some ways than I've seen before.

Moment in the show (or YT vids if you’re one of those) that you fell in hyperfixation with Gallavich? The first was probably "take your hand off the glass" where I was like okay, yeah, these two. But the 5x11 fight is peak for me.

Ian or Mickey? Ooof. It's Mickey, but really this is just a rude question.

Which Gallagher or Milkovich are you? Oh man. I think the reason I love the show so much is that I can relate to parts of all of the Gallagher/Milkovich kids and there's no way I could pick one. In the past I've said Fiona, but it doesn't feel very accurate atm.

What made you fall in love with Gallavich?: oh man what a loaded question LOL. i think honestly their chemistry from the get-go. it was so strong and so electric and it just pulled me in immediately.

How long have you been a fan?: 3 years! which doesn’t feel like a long time compared to other fandoms i’ve been in, but shameless was my quarantine binge at the beginning of the pandemic lol

Favourite Gallavich moment/scene?: oh yikes okay ummmmm, this week it’s the reunion scene under the bleachers in season 7, the EMOTION the sexual tension! the slight kidnapping! this club has everything!

Do you write or draw or make edits?: it’s been a hot minute but yes! i write and make gifs, but i’ve been dealing with some pretty bad creator’s block recently. hoping to fix that soon!

when i was new and lurking around (ages ago at this point! funny how time flies), the best way i engaged with people was through their creations! i reblogged everything i could find and added my thoughts and encouragements in the tags. i read everything from fics to shitposts, reblogged gifs and art, and just heaped love and conversation wherever i could. here and on ao3! i still do this as much as i can. that's why we're here, yes? to talk about this thing we love and find connections. people started reciprocating this and bit by bit, i got braver! i started showing up in people's inboxes to chat about their work or their posts, and soon enough we were popping in to wish each other happy days or share random thoughts.

i find that people here are so receptive to whatever you might be thinking about - even beyond shameless! and i love that people match each other's energy. if you're excited, they're excited!

and i love the care that people take with each other's thoughts and work. they are deliberate and thoughtful in their responses. we kinda run the gambit from goofy headcanons to serious meta, and no matter what you want to share, you will find that people return this energy.

yes i’ve taken 450 years for this and i know i’m probably the last person to do this, but i wanted to get it out before the finale.

i’m currently working on a lil gardener!ian piece, i haven’t had a huge amount of energy to work on it this week but hopefully i’ll have something ready soon! however, i am super proud of my multi chapter i had a dream (i got everything i wanted) (a post 5x12 au set in nyc) and well as ghosts that we knew (set post s10 and surprise! laura milkovich is alive). i worked really hard on both of them, so give them a check out if you want.

Organizing Gallavich gifs by season and in scene order-seriously I’ve been doing it for over a week now as I can and it’s made me smile so much (except the border scene and a few others lol). Actually just finished saving loads of S10 gifs that I’ll be organizing for a bit

Going off-grid in the beautiful mountains this past weekend with my crazy hippie friends, some of which I just met but they are vetted and very very good vibes

Setting up my tent in said mountains-I am very much into my tent 🏕

Spending the beginning of the week with an impromptu out of town visit with some other crazy hippie friends

My family-I’ve got a good one 💚

My apartment-three years ago I lived in my parent’s windowless basement. Then I moved here and I’m still not over it. It’s mine and it’s very decorated and I love my neighbors and my complex

Food. Food brings me great joy 😅 I’m a pretty decent cook and many of my friends are awesome cooks and we love feeding each other on the regular

The weather is slowly but surely warming up and it’s my absolute favorite ☀️

Warm weather=patio beers (IPA all day err day)

My favorite burn event (baby burning man) is coming up and it’s the first one in 2 years

I finally got new guitar strings so I can actually play without pulverizing my poor fingers

Mom and I finally finished Schitt’s Creek and ate loved it. We’ve started Shameless but I don’t quite know how I feel about watching it slowly again lol

Going to see the new Dr. Strange movie soon with my sister. She’s the one that got me into this marvel shit and it’s a fun tradition to go. Plus they are super fun to watch in a theater full of excited nerdy adult kids and be all excited and nerdy

My plants are already happier with the warmer weather-even my indoor plants. My perennials coming back make me really happy. And moving more plants outdoors = more room for new indoor plants 🌱

The pool at my complex is about to open back up ☀️

when did you start watching shameless?: so I once watched shameless a long time ago but only watched a few episodes. Then in may (during grad school finals) I began at the beginning and now here we are, totally obsessed!

how did you start getting involved in the gallavich fandom?: I found shameless again through amazing fic writers in the schitts creek fandom (I forget who exactly!). I saw some gifs and was just immediately intrigued first by how attractive the actors are 😬 and then the more i researched, i fell in love with ian and mickeys characters and their resilience. I’ve been working on a fic for a while but haven’t had time to write lately so look out for that (hopefully!) soon!

favourite shameless character? (other than ian & mickey of course): I honestly really love Carl—he’s so unintentionally funny and has a lot of growth. He’s also pretty unapologetically himself which I appreciate!

what plotline from the show irked you the most?: there are many to choose from, particularly in the later seasons, but I think my least favorite plot line was when the rest of the Gallaghers were upset with ian for mourning Monica. Having a lost a parent with whom I had a complicated relationship (and therefore complicated feelings of grief) I relate a lot to Ian’s feelings after her death and think it’s unfair of his siblings are so unsympathetic to his complicated emotions.

favourite line from the show?: on a serious note, I just love when mickey tells ian, “I love you. It means we take care of each other. It means thick and thin, good times, bad, sickness, health, all that shit.” He’s so all in at that moment, even when things are brutally difficult. On a lighter note, I do love when mickey says, “they’re not climbing Everest, they’re climbing dick”

around summer 2016. I saw a gifset on here that one of my glee mutuals reblogged and I was caught by ian and mickey immediately. I watched a few of their scenes on youtube and then started s1 the next day.

how did you start getting involved in the gallavich fandom?

tumblr has always been my happy place in many fandom experiences so I kind of just dived in headfirst. I followed a bunch of people in the tags, reblogged gifs, started making edits, wrote a bunch of discourse, and followed the filming periods every year. it was only until last year that i finally decided to write fics myself and i’m glad I did.

Fics

A fic I read just yesterday that I enjoyed a lot is called Trust Me by GallavichGeek13. It’s a one shot that takes place after Ian and Mickey’s discussion on the bed. It’s a little bitta smut and a whole lotta sweet. Another fun read is Bath Time for Bondage by ProstheticLoVe. There’s no actual bondage, just sweetness and sexiness and loving husbands. I prefer mostly canon compliant fics and both of these fit the bill perfectly.

Fan Art

There are so many super talented artists out there but one I’ve been loving lately is @WhatsaMattavich on Twitter. This drawing literally brought me to tears when I saw it. Such a beautiful testament to Ian and Mickey’s love and how they have literally saved each other. This one is absolutely beautiful as well. Also in love with this little piece here of our favorite shitty house that we will all miss so much, by @lil-lillerzzz. And pretty much everything by @steorie is phenomenal.

Posts/Gifs

I teared up reading this post by @gallavichsecurity. It just so perfectly describes Mickey’s love for Ian which has simply always been there, despite time and distance.

I’ve watched these gifs by @mickeygifs about a thousand times analyzing every squeeze, every caress, every detail. I’m. Obsessed. The amount of care, commitment, and detail that Noel and Cameron put into these characters boggles the mind. They are so good you forget that they are acting.

Other Stuff

My love for Gallavich began the moment I heard Mickey’s voice break while uttering one simple word: “Don’t”. Up until that point, I didn’t fully realize the depth of Mickey’s feelings for Ian. Yeah, I knew that their physical chemistry was off the charts and there were definitely feelings there, especially on Ian’s end. But when Ian told Mickey he was leaving and there was no telling when he would return, Mickey absolutely broke. Seeing this tough guy, who hasn’t even fully admitted to himself that he’s gay, struggling to fight back tears over Ian leaving was so surprising to me the first time I watched it. He had held his emotions in check for so long and he just couldn’t do it anymore, not when he was faced with the prospect of losing Ian.

I loved seeing Mickey’s tough guy facade break down over time to reveal a man who, despite all the abuse and hatred he had endured, was capable of loving another human so deeply, passionately, and tenderly. He took care of Ian at his lowest point, stood by his side, supported him, loved Ian when he couldn’t love himself.

Ian in turn showed Mickey that he was worthy of love, despite what his violent, homophobic father had told him all his life. He was desirable, and boy did Ian desire him. Loved sleeping with him but didn’t want just that. He wanted all of him. He wanted the intimacy that comes with kissing and telling others that you are a couple. The intimacy that comes with being completely vulnerable with another person. He wanted that with Mickey. He pushed Mickey out of his comfort zone so they could claim those things for themselves.

No matter where their journey took them, they always found their way back to each other. They fight for each other and love each other so desperately, they are fervent protectors of one another. They both had pretty horrific upbringings, never thought they’d have much of anything, “fucked for life, man”. Now they are building this beautiful life together, with well paying legal jobs, a lovely new apartment, enough money they don’t have to worry about utilities being shut off or where their next meal is coming from. Hopefully add some babies to the mix one day. They’d be wonderful, loving fathers that would break the Milkovich/Gallagher cycle of abuse and neglect.

Simply put, they saved each other. From poverty, abuse, neglect, hopelessness, self hatred. Together, they have won.

I’m not working on anything particular at the moment. I’ve discovered that I love making gifs so I do some of those when an idea strikes. I’ve been dabbling in video making but my editing skills are incredibly basic compared to so many amazing videos I’ve seen, but I love the emotion that certain songs put with certain clips evokes. I may share one soon if I can work up the courage to put my rudimentary videos out there for all to see.🙂

Gallavich Week 2022

Hello, everyone! It’s that time of the year again! Are you all ready for Gallavich Week 2022? I’m so excited for this one! We’re doing things a bit differently this year, as you might have noticed. More details about the prompts as well as full guidelines after the Read More. Quick reminder that all kinds of work are welcome, as long as they are original. Spring is here! (well, in the Northern Hemisphere it is) The boys are ready for some spring cleaning. Are you?

Welcome to the first ever Gallavich Spring Cleaning!

What is that, you ask? Easy! It’s a multiwork event hosted by @gallavichfanficlibrary and yours truly (with some help of @gallavichprompts​, thank you!) . That means any kind of work is accepted: fics, fanart, videos, gifs, you name it! Oh, and did I mention there are no requirements either? Drabbles and one-shots are more than welcome (my burn-out brain actually thanks you). 

The only rule for this event is: it’s got to be PG-13 - in other words, clean. (Get it? Cause of spring cleaning? *wink wink* I’m very smart). That means no mature teams, no smut, no M18, no ~lemon~. Of course swearing is allowed (I mean, it’s still Ian and Mickey we are talking about), just keep it sfw. Think of it as a reverse kinktober, if you will.

Prompts are under the Read More. You can use only one, several or all of them. Mix and match, if you want to! Repeat them, even!  They’re just your starting points! 

This event will run through the whole month of April, so you may post whenever you want. Tag me (@gallavichthings) so I can see and reblog it as soon as possible. Feel free to also tag the Library if you’re posting fics (oh, and if you can, please put your fics under read mores if they’re too long and you post them here in full, as a courtesy to those roaming the tags).

Situation prompts:

Spring cleaning.

It's the first sunny day in what feels like forever, after several weeks of bad weather and storms that have kept them spending most of the time in their apartment. 

Spring: sniffles, pollen, and tissues.

The Big Easter Egg Hunt.

The only thing Mickey knows about his soulmate is that he’s supposed to meet him in the spring.

Teenagers Ian and Mickey somehow end up spending St.Patrick’s Day together, and it’s not a date but it also kinda sorta feels like it might be? 

Spring on the Westside feels different than on the Southside.

Ian and Mickey are slowly turning their apartment into a ‘home’, bringing small touches of themselves into it.

Mickey’s always been a light sleeper who has suffered from nightmares. It’s only when they finally get their apartment sorted that he starts to sleep well and really understand what a good night's sleep can be.

The lease on the apartment is almost up. (Do they stay in the apartment? Move out? Go apartment hunting? Hire a realtor?)

One day Ian comes across an injured cat and nurses it back to health. After a few days he finds a stranger on his couch and the cat is nowhere to see. (Shapeshifting AU)

The last thing Ian expects to see in the mysterious box that Mickey brings to the dugouts is kittens. And he definitely didn’t expect that they would end up caring for them together.

5 times they visited family members + 1 time the family members visited them.

Debbie wants to make a good old Gallaghers’ style BBQ. (Everything goes wrong.)

The king sends his best knight to kill the monster that lives in the forest. Turns out, the monster is pretty charming and doesn’t actually harm anyone.

Hello, everyone! Are you ready for some (dirty) fun? Here are the prompts for this year’s kinktober. There are two for each day, one situational and one dialogue. You may choose only one or use both. Because it’s kinda hilarious, I had to ask @damngcoffee to send this again because I managed to answer privately by accident, like, two sentences in. But here we go! 

6. Favorite non-Gallavich Mickey scene

So to demonstrate why people might think twice about sending me asks, even lightheartedly, my first reaction to this is “how are we defining a non-Gallavich Mickey scene?” -- because I want to apply a Bechdel-type test for Mickey here. There are non-Gallavich Mickey scenes where he’s talking about Ian the whole time... and then there are non-Gallavich Mickey scenes that are not about Ian -- and those are in the minority. 

So. I have two scenes, from both types. The first is the Pube Soap scene from 4x7, because I love Kevin and Mickey together a whole lot and that is probably my favourite of all their scenes. Almost every line has some comic merit, based in character. They are shooting lines back and forth at each other at a pace, and then you have Svetlana interjecting, trying to figure out what’s happening. Also, “I’ll be down to protect your 7 foot ass as soon as I can” is one of my favourite Mickey lines, full stop. 

From the other side -- the Mickey scene where Mickey is talking about Ian, it’s the same season -- 4x12. The Mickey and Fiona scene. Not funny in the slightest, but I could scarcely love him more than I do in that scene. “You, Me, Us. His fucking family.” Ugh. 

16. Favorite episode 

Also gonna cheat a bit on this one because my favourite episode is 5x06: Crazy Love, but it’s a hard one to watch. I mean, I love it. It has so many of my very favourite moments. It also has scenes I can barely sit through because I find them so painful. Someone had gifs up this week from Crazy Love specifically of Ian and the baby, and I thought “This is my speed. This is how to take in the Ian and Yev content from that episode.” 

But that is what I want from a show I love. I want the big emotional highs and lows. Crazy Love gives us Mickey telling Ian he loves him for the first time -- in the worst possible circumstances. We get Cam’s difficult performance as Ian’s mania hits its zenith. We get Lip, Mickey and Debbie (and Carl!) heading out to Indiana to bring Ian home. We get both those hugs that I pretty much essential Gallavich content for me. There is so much stuff there, with Mickey openly taking care of Ian right in front of his family and Ian drowning in shame in the second half of the episode while Mickey just doesn’t care. The fact that Mickey doesn’t blame Ian for any of this is just really important to me. 

So. Crazy Love. But if I’m just in a mood for a good Gallavich episode I will almost certainly put on 7x10 and 7x11 because I love both of them so much. I don’t think they are as interesting to me outside of the Gallavich part of the episode, but I still love those episodes a lot.

i don’t even watch 9-1-1, didn’t even know the show existed until your blog, but i’m so invested in all your buck and eddie gifs that come up on my dash that it’s strange i haven’t just gone and watched it yet.

that said, i have made the conscious decision that at some point i will be watching it. (but who even knows when that will be because i have spent the better part of two months spending every spare second reading gallavich fanfic over any other media, so it may not happen soon but know it will happen eventually !)

10/10 recommend you definitely watch it whenever you’re ready and you are obligated to come cry to me about it just like everyone else!

oh I know, it’s sad to think we’ll never have new content, though hopefully some deleted scenes will surface in the near future? so at least there’s something to look forward to still with that. and as you say, they’re happy and good, and personally that thought always brings me a lot of peace that helps keep the sadness at bay 😌 plus I feel constantly connected to their story through fanfic, discussions and gifs here on tumblr, and soon I might start a full rewatch of the show too. thankfully we have plenty of content to revisit anytime we want 🥰

when did you start watching shameless?

march (?) 2013! i was 15 and the show was half way through airing season 3. i became hooked and stuck with it religiously until 5x12. then i took a 4 season sabbatical and rolled in for mickey’s reintroduction as a main character.

how did you start getting involved in the gallavich fandom?

i’ve had this blog for the last 10 years so it’s seen everything — including my original shameless run — and this also means that navigating fandom spaces is very second nature-y for me so as soon as i found out ian and mickey were getting married and i rewatched the entire show, i quickly realised that i was seriously getting back into the show and began to look for accounts to follow and content to engage with! i also started to write what would eventually turn out to be my first multi chapter. i think i just started writing posts to get involved — i can’t make gifs or anything like that. i tend to use both twitter and tumblr fandom spaces but have found increasingly recently that the tumblr spaces are much much more pleasant! this is especially apparent for our lil fandom ❤️

what plotline from the show irked you the most?

i started to list many, many of the top offenders (looking at you: gay jesus, kev and v calling ICE on svet, mickey going to prison for attempted murder and then the gallaghers throwing their father off a bridge in broad daylight and walking away scot-free) but we all know when the plot lines took a massive nose dive. truthfully for a sl that irks me, i’d probably have to go with landlord fiona — i know she came out the other side, but it’s so difficult to watch someone who grew up w such shelter insecurity to do it to other people (especially young, gay, houseless youth) — i feel it lacked nuance and a lot of the stuff they had her do later on leant into the ‘i suffered so you have to suffer too’ trope.

favourite line from the show?

it’s, uhhh, a figure of speech. it’s like saying ‘none of your business’… ‘your dick’s in my dad’s mouth, man’
