I met some of the ghosts and gave my print of the Captian and Havers dancing in the style of JC Leyendecker. I also got to see their costumes and talk to Martha and Larry. It was an awsome event where I got to meet some other lovely ghosts fans and even give them cards of my art!!
Ben was first in line, so he saw the prints and I asked him to sign one of them. He also signed the book while I was telling him about the painting and giving him his own copy. I told him that I liked him in Me and You (because I cannot stop myself) and double science (which is a radio drama he wrote and starred in from like 2008) and he LIT UP when I mentioned double science (see below)
And then I was going to talk to Martha but the person in front of me was still talking to her and then Larry got a look at the print in my hand (because we didn't want Ben's signature to smudge) and he was like "Wow, that's amazing, did you paint that?" and he took it from me to have a look at it before giving it back, and then I told him that my favourite minor Yonderland character was Kendall, and he was like, oh, yes. And that I also really liked his elder character, especially the "if I would have known how loud winning would be, I would have chosen a different side" and "Oh, and I want to be a woman." Truly icon behavior, and he seemed to agree with me.
And that was how i spent an incredibly special 3 minutes of my life. It was kind of a hard day, being back in London for the first time since 2020, but they made it all better. I wish I could have met Martha properly, but seeing them all smile made it all worth it.

"especially given, y'know, what Sam wears in his day-to-day lol, I get the impression off the rack doesn't do much for him"
I don't usually pay close attention to men's fashion, so I was wondering if it was normal to have a shirt that seemed to fit well in the shoulders have SO much extra fabric around the waist lol
Do you remember any specific things that Carol said re: Sam? :) I've really loved reading her dives into the Louis/Claudia/Lestat Mardi Gras costumes and Louis and Claudia's 2.1 costumes.
Haha, it's kind of hard to tell, because the oversize fit for men is definitely in fashion right now, but his proportions do end up leaving him with so much fabric around the waist - he ends up looking a little concave when he sits back. I don't think it helps that he seems to like big, loose jackets too a lot of the time.
Carol's so great! I don't know if she's talked specifically about dressing Sam, but she talked a lot about the costuming for Louis, Lestat and Claudia in her AMC Q&A after s1 aired, and a bit in her more recent interview with TV Guide. They're both worth reading - the second one I found particularly interesting in what she said about Armand's neck always being exposed as a sign that he's at the top of the food chain and knows it (really contextualises a lot of the choices for other characters too!) and that Louis' muted style in Dubai is something Armand would see as Louis being able to relax with him, but is really a sign of Armand's control because Louis as a character likes, and is influenced by fashion.
Which feeds so nicely into the things she said about him and Lestat with their s1 looks in the AMC interviews. My favourite bits:
For Louis starting out, he had several iconic looks. His fashion showed how he was struggling between two sides of himself when Lestat found him. He had a Booker T. Washington look, a look that showcases the entrepreneurial spirit and celebration of education and Black business owners, and it was a more austere look. Then for his nightlife look, I was inspired by Black vaudeville. Not what the men were wearing on stage, but what the men were wearing in their lives, which Louis would have been aware of. They were extremely dapper men, and they had a celebrity air to them. In order to survive, Louis has to be impeccable. He has to have a showmanship about him that serves as a layer within his defense mechanisms. There were so many pieces to the puzzle that got us to where we were visually with both of Louis and Lestat. For Lestat, he's coming from the mid-to-late 1700s and that was during a real explosion of dandy fashion for men. It's like Beau Brummel, the most widely known male dandy fashion plate. As we move forward with Lestat, I looked at icons like Rudolph Valentino. We have to remember that Lestat is coming from a time when clothing was a lot more restrictive. He wears modern clothes, but they almost fit him like corsetry, even his suits.
And another quote below the cut!
As we got to know these characters, as the work progressed with Sam [Reid] and Jacob [Anderson], we would present them with different styles that I felt "this could be Louis," "this could be Lestat." We reached a point where in fittings it was like we instinctively knew "in this time period this is how Louis would actually wear it" and "this is how Lestat would wear it." So just in working with the actors, so much presented itself in what direction to go with each of the men. There was some really fun stuff of course, like when they first meet. They have very distinct looks and then Louis pulls Lestat into the present day, right? They have this moment – it's like their first honeymoon moment – of their friendship where Lestat is very influenced by Louis's fashion and he's going to Louis's tailor. They really feel in sync and that moment is largely illustrated by a very famous menswear illustrator, J.C. Leyendecker. He made famous the Arrow Shirt Man and he was the male standard of beauty. He became such a big thing that he sold millions of shirts just because everyone wanted to be that man in his illustrations. And the whole first two episodes, their style sense in many ways is a love letter to Leyendecker. Some things are just perfectly pulled from – like their formalwear, their tuxedos that they wear to the opera in 1917, and the black pinstripe suit with the green tie and the white boutonniere that Lestat wears to the du Lac family home for dinner – those are from a Leyendecker illustration. The thing that was so amazing about Leyendecker himself, was that the Arrow Shirt Man, his model, they fell in love and it was just a beautiful love story between these two men that they could not be public with. So, to throw in very pointed Leyendecker references in places of great struggle for Louis and Lestat was amazing. What I always think of as their second honeymoon is in the '20's when Claudia is running wild, and you see them and they’re like these two fabulous bachelor dads. That was a lot of fun! There's this one image – and there's been a fair amount of fan art – with Lestat in the cardigan sweater. That was so tongue-in-cheek! They're the perfect two dads with their little wild child. Putting those looks together was amazing. It was all about following the story and ripping them apart, and then putting them back together, and then ripping them apart and putting them back together again.
#there's just so many thoughtful talented people making this show#always obsessed with the idea of corsetry playing into all of lestat's clothes though#amc interview with the vampire#iwtv press#welcome to my ama

🥑 ⇢ you accidentally killed somebody, which mutual(s) do you text for help?
I'd get in touch with @cha-melodius for her anatomical knowledge (y'know, maybe I can resuscitate whoever it is?) and @happiness-of-the-pursuit for his legal expertise, in the likely event that the resuscitation doesn't work.
☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?
You know, I've had this username since about 2010, and I honestly can't remember the backstory. I'm fairly sure it has something to do with some sort of arts and crafts project and then-untreated ADHD, though...
🐝 ⇢ tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
This might get long, so I'll come back to this one and toss it under a jump. 🤣😅
🎨 ⇢ link your favourite piece of fanart and explain why you like it
You know, prior to the latest RWRB zine being published, I wouldn't have been able to narrow it down to just one, but this JC Leyendecker-inspired piece by @artofobsession is possibly my favorite piece of fanart that's ever been created. It's just -- even nearly a month after it was first posted, it causes beauty aggression in me and I just want to bite it because it's so pretty and glowy and ethereal and lovely and they're just so blushy and so into one another. It's the first fanart print I've ordered in years, and it's going to go on my wall of ephemeral pretty things with my Lindsay van Ekelenburg art and my various tarot card prints from Kickstarter decks.
[Send me emoji from the Writers Truth & Dare Ask Game and I'll answer the corresponding questions!]
Aight, back to 🐝 ⇢ tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
I mean, obviously I'm tagging you first, @ad-astra13, because you're the Most Excellent of Doc Gremlins and your flailing in my Google Docs has been so, so motivating. Your fiber work is really cool and creative! I'm always intrigued to see which project you'll take on next.
And then there's @hgejfmw-hgejhsf, who even with a bunch of stuff going on IRL still takes the time to DM me a screenshot when someone has recced one of my fics, which -- warm fuzzies just everywhere. Val is one of the sweetest, most deeply passionate RWRB fans I have ever met, and her encyclopedic knowledge of all things book and movie have come in handy on like, dozens of occasions in the few months since I've gotten to know her.
@kiwiana-writes and I basically have the same brain in different bodies on different continents, the vibe is so consistent. Half the time I read his work it feels like it could've emerged from my brain instead of his, and now it turns out he's a pretty gifted songwriter too? Incredible, awe-inspiring, iconic, etc.
@artofobsession and I have a Spider-Man meme thing going on where I yell at Hann about their art, and they yell at me about my writing, and it's just a never-ending cycle of yelling. Pretty amazing to consider that I was Too Scared To Say Hi ™️ for awhile there, because I'm a big ol' introvert. Regardless of what Hann's got going on, I've never read an unkind word that's emerged from their keyboard, and they're super well-spoken and yeah, really glad I started making unhinged bulleted lists of art reviews as a way to break the ice, because they're good people.
Speaking of Spider-Man memes, @seanchaidh7 and I have also been Spider-Manning back and forth these last few months. She's created some really, really incredible art for my Big Giant AU, and just genuinely seems like a cool person. I'm happy we stumbled across each other in this fandom!
@duchessdepolignaca03 is one of the best unhinged idea riffers I've met. She deserves at least partial credit for the idea for my RBB fic, because a simple "fic where [x]" message can lead to a thread of dozens (or hundreds) of messages back and forth just flinging ideas out there to further the prompt. Half the time the riff is all that happens, but occasionally, the riff spawns something way bigger.
And there are folks who either I haven't found on Tumblr, or who left Tumblr behind in like 2013 and haven't looked back -- super grateful for everyone who's enabling my weird little brain to do the thing!

what would you say are your main inspirations for your art/what do you think influenced your art style the most? im curious cuz its just so good I need to know
OH THIS IS A HARD QUESTION
okok this is gonna be a bit long,, as an art student i am constantly exposed to art from every single era ever,,, i love flipping through my art/photo books for inspiration. as a child i copied a lot of anime like tokyo mew mew, higurashi and pokemon, so anime and manga has always been a huge inspiration for me. i always look at the art style-trends in animanga from the late 90s-00s!
i also study a lot of masters, leyendecker is always someone i go back to when im not sure which direction my art is taking. he is one of the greatest artists of the 1900s methinks... if i am completely lost i go to my living room and randomly choose one of the many artbooks i have laying around to flip through. my favorite artbooks as of rn is the into- and across the spiderverse books!
i love the camp-movement and post-modernism too! when i work on my personal projects i like to focus on those two art movements the most.
i also take a lot of inspiration from my peers in the art community today, like vewn and plastiboo, even if my style and art direction differs wildly. my favorite artists rn are range murata, who created the iconic designs for groove on fight, and of course eiichiro oda and one piece.
my style changes every day. i still haven't found a way to color that i truly like, but that's ok! art is a never-ending journey. thanks for the love and the interesting question!!

i feel like if you look closely enough you can probably spot the threads of inspiration from everything I've been into over the years. from when they cry, kingdom hearts, jojo, danganronpa, utena, a plethora of shojo and magical girl anime, godchild, bleach, to byzantine icons, michaelangelo's sculptures, mucha's advertisements, leyendecker, gustave dore's prints, stained glass and ironwork scrolling, everything I've ever admired has left a print on my art in some way or another.
I feel as though I frequently move through phrases of my art, emphasizing this or that over the other. sometimes, the exaggerated portraiture and posing, sometimes the fantastical and unrealistic coloring. sometimes things and flowing lines, sometimes thick and jagged edges. sometimes painterly, sometimes a mere binary of solid black and stark white. and I cycle through it all endlessly, never cutting ties but always coming back.
art is like a blanket woven of everything I have ever loved, everything that has ever awed me, and if anything it is simply a shame that I cannot show every technique at once.
#I'm just rambling#even though I'm just a hobbyist and not even that well learned when it comes to the techniques of making art#I feel like grasping at the wisps of masters#I take what I love and I hope I can reform it into something others can love too#I proudly do what I do so I can fill the world with everything I find beautiful awe inspiring and touching

thank you SO MUCH for sharing these with me!! when my teacher gave us so much creative liberty i thought i must share something meaningful so it means a lot to me that i can add your faves to my list
aww im soooo glad <333 honestly i did a part 2 with even more favs but i messed up and ended up deleting it and it pissed me off too much to do it again rip :((((
but here's some extra stuff from part 2:
david hockney's 1970s drawings (not a huge fan of his paintings tbh but some of those sketches of dudes just speak to me. this one is called ossie wearing a fairisle sweater, which i didn't know until tonight and lol. i literally have a print on my wall lmao)
holly warburton's stuff kinda makes me go insane with her use of blue and her paintings that SCREAM loneliness but 'faces in a crowd' esp
some of toulouse-lautrec's in bed paintings that scream gay and tender
fallen angel by cabanel reminds me of anakin skywalker and i dig it so much. iconic.
i'm obsessed with a lot of charles dana gibson illustrations... i mean, they're all a mood !!!
and jc leyendecker who was a gay illustrator who did a lot of stuff for ads that was super homoerotic.
also my uncle is a painter and i won't share his stuff on here for privacy reasons but i love love love his paintings so much. esp. his darker older ones (don't tell him i said that lol)
i'm pretty mehh re: the impressionists. i'm much more into post-impressionism and expressionism.
bonus round here's a painter i HATE : paul gauguin !!! both my parents are huuuuge fan and i find his stuff sooooo emotionless.
also here's one of my favourite quote about van gogh. and one of my favourite quote about art tbh:
“When Van Gogh was a young man in his early twenties, he was in London studying to be a clergyman. He had no thought of being an artist at all. he sat in his cheap little room writing a letter to his younger brother in Holland, whom he loved very much. He looked out his window at a watery twilight, a thin lamppost, a star, and he said in his letter something like this: “it is so beautiful I must show you how it looks.” And then on his cheap ruled note paper, he made the most beautiful, tender, little drawing of it. When I read this letter of Van Gogh’s it comforted me very much and seemed to throw a clear light on the whole road of Art. Before, I thought that to produce a work of painting or literature, you scowled and thought long and ponderously and weighed everything solemnly and learned everything that all artists had ever done aforetime, and what their influences and schools were, and you were extremely careful about *design* and *balance* and getting *interesting planes* into your painting, and avoided, with the most astringent severity, showing the faintest *academical* tendency, and were strictly modern. And so on and so on. But the moment I read Van Gogh’s letter I knew what art was, and the creative impulse. It is a feeling of love and enthusiasm for something, and in a direct, simple, passionate and true way, you try to show this beauty in things to others, by drawing it. And Van Gogh’s little drawing on the cheap note paper was a work of art because he loved the sky and the frail lamppost against it so seriously that he made the drawing with the most exquisite conscientiousness and care.”
— Brenda Ueland, from “If You Want to Write: A Book about Art, Independence and Spirit”
#there's a million more lbr#but this is just stuff off the top of my head#!!!#hope this help ????#idk if this does but this was super fun to answer so thanks for reaching out#and i hope all goes well with your project#about me#art

9, 19 and 26 for the historical asks? :D
9. Favourite historical film? If we are talking vintage films not from recent years: I'm a sucker for musicals and Marilyn Monroe has a firm hold on my heart. My go to are Singin' in the Rain and Gentlemen Prefers Blondes. If made in the last 20 years, Pride and Prejudice most likely, I'm so soft for historical movies. Anything that's 1980s and before I am weak for. 19. What’s your favourite historical book?
Novel - Pride and Prejudice maybe? Because I am predictable?
Historical books - Raiders and Rebels: The Golden Age of Piracy (it's soooo good, I have easily read 10 times oops), Inconvenient Indian (because I love the unhinged energy it has a I love my country being put back in its place) Another in which I wish was properly published, there are 600 letters between these two solders during WWII and how they long for one another, parts including :
“My own darling boy,There is nothing more than I desire in life but to have you with me constantly.
“I can see or I imagine I can see, what your mother and father’s reaction would be… the rest of the world have no conception of what our love is – they do not know that it is love.” 26. Who do you think is a forgotten hero we should know about and admire? For a not indigenous answer, as it was my first. He was pretty much forgotten until fandoms brought him back to life but Leyendecker was a completely forgotten artist and he basically shaped the world of fashion / art when photography was not yet used for fashion. His work was published monthly and every piece gorgeous. Also a queer icon. I also think of Irene Langhorne the original Gibson girl.

I was tagged by @stanfordsweater for this getting to know you game. Thanks so much for the tag! 😊💕 There’s a clean copy at the end for people who want to do this.
1. why did you choose your url?
It was already my user name on AO3 (and maybe some other sites, can't recall) and I wanted consistency across platforms (since I joined tumblr for fandom). And here's the pretentious part: if you didn't know, it's a reference to Hamlet, which is one of my favorite written works ever. Elsinore is the name of the castle where it takes place, so the prince of Elsinore is Hamlet ^^;
2. any sideblogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
I have two, though I'm not gonna name them lol (they're not exactly secret but they're old news). When I first joined I wanted my main to be not totally fandom-dominated (whoops so much for that) so I made a side blog for my main fandom at the time (Hetalia), where I now reblog fanart every once in a blue moon. And I made another side blog for my fic. I still occasionally post on the fic blog but since my main is now basically completely spn anyway, I've just been posting my spn fic on main.
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
Since... 2012, I think? But not consistently. I hadn't used tumblr much in years before last fall and even considered deleting my blog multiple times, but spn ending (and the pandemic) brought me back stronger than ever ^^;
4. do you have a queue tag?
#q (i'm lazy and it's just quickest that way 🙈)
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
If only I could remember... Well, it was for fandom (mostly--also some history blogging) but I don't remember the specific impetus. As mentioned my main fandom was Hetalia at the time, and within that mostly German bros stuff. I also distinctly remember lurking on a lot of Sherlock blogs prior to joining 😬(my how tastes things change)
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?
It's a Leyendecker illustration! I love his work so so much (so many dapper men, so much homoeroticism 👌). The piece is Easter-themed and I don't actually know why I chose it. This fop is a far cry from his usual suave dudes, but idk, I guess I liked how ott and fancy it is. It also matched the old flowery aesthetic of my blog before I changed the theme.
7. why did you choose your header?
Lol ok so that's a photo I took (on my first visit maybe?) at Sans Souci palace in Potsdam, Germany. It was the residence of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, who--as anyone will know if they remember my blog days of yore--is my favorite historical figure! The glove is not mine. I found it like that :)
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
As I suspected, this one I made defending Jared's "controversial" comments post-finale. Sort of funny because I'm not even a Jared stan 🤷♂️
9. how many mutuals do you have?
No idea
10. how many followers do you have?
Just passed 550, which I know isn't many relatively speaking but wow I certainly never expected to see the day! I've gained about 300 followers since I started posting about spn, which utterly baffles me, but hey I'm glad if you guys are enjoying yourselves!
11. how many people do you follow?
Oh, wow, I just looked and it's over 1,000 😳 I guess b/c over the years I've gone on multiple following sprees and only unfollow if people really really annoy me or if I just get really tired of their content (I do continue to follow a lot of people who post about fandoms I'm not in). I feel like I usually see the same <50 blogs on my dash, though, so I'm guessing about 900 of the blogs I follow must be completely inactive lol.
12. have you ever made a shitpost?
Yes 🙃
13. how often do you use tumblr each day?
Varies. Over the past months I would check it every hour or more, felt like (not v conducive to getting work done orz). Recently (due to being away from my computer more often, now that the semester and my old job are finished) only a couple times a day, mostly at night.
14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
Hm, not really. Nothing more than a couple snarky or passive-aggressive asks, and not for years (aside from that anon anti hate I got sort of recently--my first ever! I would say I win that one by default, y'know, just for not being the person sending anon hate). I did get into a pretty drawn-out debate with a Dean stan about Dean's death and Jared's comments on it--see above--but I wouldn't classify it as an argument.
15. how do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
Very Tired and skeptical
16. do you like tag games?
Yes they're great! Always make me smile (even if I don't participate I always appreciate the tag!) 😊
17. do you like ask games?
Yes, although I have to be careful about posting them because while I love getting asks in theory, getting them means I have to answer them! And I tend to be very slow at that because I want to put so much thought into it! (Send me asks any time, really! Might just take me forever to respond ^^;) ((Oh gosh this reminds me I still never finished some headcanon asks I got aaages ago. Maybe someday...))
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
I don't have a good sense of what constitutes tumblr famous. My fave blogs are all stars in my eyes 🤩😇
19. do you have a crush on a mutual?
Haha no. Maybe with a few I just have a little cherished hope that they think I'm cool and smart 🥺
20. tags?
Hmm I pick @theregoestheneighbourhood, @doilycoffin, @decadent-prince, and @fallcolorspringrapid if you want to!!
clean copy:
1. why did you choose your url?
2. any sideblogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
4. do you have a queue tag?
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?
7. why did you choose your header?

Love how much people get their knickers in a twist over my JC Leyendecker post saying I only care about him because he’s gay and we all know how tumblr loves to fetishise gay couples
So for a second lets set aside that I’m an illustrator with a degree in fashion advertising and a training in art histroy and therefore MAYBE there are personal reasons why I find the man an inspiriation, and talk about what really bugs me about this #HotTake
The point of the post is that he was ERASED from art history because of his sexuality.
The point is this man should have been a corner stone of the American art history. But he’s not, because he was gay
He matters to art history, and he matters to queer history.
YOUR DAMN FUCKING RIGHT I’LL BE PROFANE. And your damn right the post is about his sexuality. Because he was fucking brave enough to be an out gay man in the 1930′s, and the world punished him for it. They shoved him into the closet of art history and chose to remember Rockwell instead. When he died, his funeral was attended by 5 people. He was an icon of the Jazz age, and just 5 people came to send his body off.
His art was some of the most influential and ubiquitous of the early 20th century, and now most people barely even know his name.
As the spokesperson for the brand that literally owns the Arrow portfolio now says
“In earlier decades, people just wouldn't have had these conversations, and there's also questionable relevance—so what if the Arrow Collar Man and his creator were gay? But I think socially conscious historians are recognizing a need to tell these stories that can really matter to the LGBTQ community and society as a whole.”
- PVH Historian Suzanne E. Shapiro,
He should have been remembered because he was a brilliant artist, an immigrant who made it in America, and an icon on the 20′s social scene. And because he was gay. Because for little LGBT artists like myself grabling with our interests and desire towards same sex bodies, the man is an inspiration that we are not the first. we are links in the chain of queer artists, and writers, and actors, and performers, dating as far back as human history
So fuck you yeah my post is about his sexuality, and we’re gonna talk about it. No one deserves to be made invisible by history because of their sexuality, your prudish pearl clutching be damned
#j c leyendecker#leyendecker#had it up to here with this#this is queer history and people don’t want to hear it#because how dare we share with each other the queer men women and others who came before us who dared to be brave#in a time when bravery could mean death and ignominy#joseph christian leyendecker#american illustrators#art history#queer history#lgbt history#oh the urge to @ the prude who made me go off is so strong#but fuck it#it is fucking abiout him being gay#because sometimes queer history needs to be

Just wondering, what is your icon from? I adore it and despite having seen a lot of art from WWI, it just doesn't seem familiar and I'd love to know who painted it and what the entire thing looks like! Thank you in advance!
Hello!!
It’s an illustration by (one of my favorite artists) J.C. Leyendecker for a December issue of The Saturday Evening Post in 1917!
Sorry the quality’s not too good. His work is just...amazing. I’m in love with every single stroke he makes, the way he renders fabric, the colors, etc. Please look at his other work if you can!
