i think it's fascinating the way the show approaches grace and amelia's numbers, in the sense of how high they are. for grace, she has done so bad in the past every small "right" act/act of kindness is meant to bring her number down, and i do think the ending of s3 implies she will get off the train eventually. amelia's number, however, is so high she doesn't even care when it goes down. and unlike grace, she doesn't act kindly to make it go down. amelia simply doesn't care. she has reached a point she has done so badly she isn't even interested in redeeming herself. they are on opposite sides of the hope spectrum, if you will. grace can only do better, and amelia is stuck where she is

The Devil in the Dark - loooved it

It's a really good episode, with real tension (I was so scared for the Horta) and highly emotional! Discovering new form of life and trying hard to communicate with it! to understand it! Empathy for the alien! Overcoming the fear of the unknown!

Jim being ready to kill it to stop the murders and Spock appalled by the idea, then Jim standing in front of it, seeing immediately it's not hostile and talking to it? While Spock in the communicator, upon hearing Jim is 10 ft from it, "Kill it, captain, quickly"??? Poetic cinema. So good

"No kill I" then the mind meld with the Horta? I was crying. So well done. Nimoy's acting is perfect.

(yes these are EGGS it's obvious these are EGGS you know these are EGGS Spock)

I had to laugh at Jim trying to keep Spock away from the search, by telling him,

KIRK: Mister Spock, you are second in command. This will be a dangerous hunt. Either one of us by himself is expendable. Both of us are not.

Lmao that literally never bothered you before Jim

And of course their final banter always on point.

Errand of Mercy

You think you don't want war and when you meet pacifists who won't let you wage war, you're all mad. It was interesting seeing Jim closer to the Klingon in this moment, than to the pacifists - and then regretting it. For once he wasn't right about something. And it's a brilliant foil to his role in A Taste of Armageddon.

Otherwise a nice enough episode, with some high points:

Hilarious that they both (Jim&Spock) beam down (and of course get taken by aliens) after Jim acknowledged in the previous episode that it's quite stupid.

Jim being so insistent on making the Organians understand what's coming for them and the risk they face as Klingons are a military dictatorship

Once again being threatened with being mind-wiped, just another day in Captain Kirk's life.

No creature can resist Jim Kirk, even a Klingon commander is like "oooh that's the famous captain of the Enterprise!" *starry eyes*

This omg:

KIRK: I'm embarrassed. I was furious with the Organians for stopping a war I didn't want. We think of ourselves as the most powerful beings in the universe. It's unsettling to discover that we're wrong.

Ha. Learned something there did you Jimbo? (lovingly)

The Alternative Factor

I love the whatthefuck plots, I love how whimsical this show is. And I liked this episode - yay parallel universe! - although the ending is darker and less optimistic than previous ones.

KIRK: Sometimes pain can drive a man harder than pleasure. I'm sure you know that, Doctor.

Jim being so done with Bones and Spock made me laugh

I love when Jim and Spock get to the same conclusion at the same time :')

The ending is haunting me:

KIRK: There is, of course, no escape. How would it be? Trapped forever with a raging madman at your throat until time itself came to a stop? For eternity. How would it be? SPOCK: Captain, the universe is safe. KIRK: For you and me. But what of Lazarus? What of Lazarus?

as always, this episode was so fucking wild!!! ketil beating on arnheid? after she just lost her husband?! goddamn. she let this man know that she’s carrying HIS baby and he kept on anyway! this iron fist mf is just terrible. he acting worse than his own damn son, and that mf beats children and kills men like it’s nothing! I thought ketil was one of the good ones— I stand corrected, I fear . . . arnheid doesn’t deserve any of this mess. girl almost got r*ped, and then she’s flogged until she loses conciousness?! yeahhh this gone be her last episode alive. yukimura must hate her fr. for arnheid’s own sake, i hope she doesn’t wake up; and i mean that in a good way! so she can reunite with Gardar and Hjalti in the spirit or something. if she survives, ketil won’t go easy on her ass. and thorgil’s back on his warrior bullshit! he bout to bring the entire farm to ruin with this foolish war against the king. i wonder if he knows that his bloodlust isn’t enough to defeat the jomsvikings, especially with farmers and slaves as his ‘army’ 😭 not really related to this latest episode, but im just remembering what went down in ep 12 with thorgil . . . iykyk. that man thorgil gives a new definition to fear! okok end of my ramble. im just utterly obsessed with this series 🤭

watching the shadowhunters show again. nothing you’re going through can’t be fixed by silly mediocre to bad tv

Ugh I love the first episode of The Mandalorian so much!! I don't think there could have been a better introduction to the series. It sets up the entire story so well.

In such a short amount of time you're introduced to this ruthless bounty hunter and his cool ship who, thanks to glimpses of his traumatic past and despite not knowing if he's 'good' or not, you can't help but immediately root for. It's so cool to see Din accept the job which changes his life forever and his little interactions with various figures which clue you into what kind of man he is.

I also love that he's not invincible and has flaws. We see him flying through the air once or twice. Plus the initial encounter with the Ravinak always has me stressed, even though I know the outcome! That scene in particular shows how he can use his experience and wits to get out of precarious situations. He started the Razor Crest and launched it before dealing with the creature. So cool, calm and collected it's truly enthralling watching him do his thing!!

Plus, Din's weapons and armour don't make him invincible. He relies on Kuiil to save him from the blurrgs on Arvala-7 and to eventually ride them. And he couldn't have gotten to Grogu without IG-11! It shows how well he can work with others spontaneously, assessing how their skill sets match his own.

Also, Din is SO much sassier than I remembered. So many great one liners to Kuiil and IG-11. I love Greef roasting him with the "Save the theatrics," line too! You just know he's caused a scene in the cantina on Nevarro many times before. He's a menace.

In conclusion: Din in Chapter 1 is just a snarky buckethead who gets tossed around like a salad and I love him for that.
