i really appreciate ryoko kui’s subversion of tired anime tropes, mostly a lot of sexual/sexualized ones
the main guy is a freak but not a pervert. just genuinely inflicted with the tism cranked to 100
none of the women are gratuitously sexualized (including the underage ones!!!) and all the panty shots are relegated to senshi, as they should be
the catgirl in the group isn’t some cute ditzy fan service character, but actually acts like a cat in addition to having her own arc and development
any level-headed male in the series respects and listens to the female characters and treats them as people and equals
also despite laios being a kinda blonde white everyman character, he’s easily the weirdest one in the group (and i love him)

RACIST PENGUINS?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know what's funnier: the implication that these penguins know enough about imps to have slurs for them that can't be repeated on this show, or the implication that Blitzø speaks penguin

“Jason has no personality!” OH MY GOD ITS ALMOST LIKE THATS THE POINT??? Is that he doesn’t know who he is because he’s always just been a pawn for others and been what others expect of him. Also wrong??? That man has LAYERS yo sorry yall skimmed his chapters 🙄

no words can describe how much i love Kaos.
it's the most accurate adaptation of greek myths i've ever seen (and yes, i believe it's better than percy jackson even if it has my whole heart).
as an autistic person with a greek mythology special interest, i am obsessing over the care for the details they put
SPOILERS FOR EVERYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN IT
example: Pasiphae, Ariadne's mother, was in the myths the mother of the Minotaur because, to say it very poorly, she fucked a sacred cow. So Ariadne's brother was the Minotaur. And she also had a brother named Glaucus (i have to research if they're twins or not)
another example? i have plenty of those
Caeneus being trans, the whole Troy thing (which i adored because i think it's both heartbreaking and a smart as fuck way to tell the myth), the Seven Trojans in the maze, Orpheus being a singer and convincing Persephone to let Eurydice go because "she likes his songs", the scene in the last episode where outside the underworld Eurydice begs Orpheus to look at her, Hades and his wife being the only ones with fucking logical thinking in their whole family, even the fact that everyone is gay it's somehow myth accurate
the only thing that i really don't like is the fact that they made Hera cheat on Zeus, she's the goddess of marriage and because of that she has never and would never cheat on her husband, even if she clearly doesn't like Zeus (still, i loved the way she behaved, "you're the king but i am the queen" was PERFECT to me)
so yeah basically go watch Kaos because it's neat and i love it and greek mythology and yeah

Finally getting around to watching The Mirror and the Light (and yes I’m going to yap about it endlessly), and OMG I have to talk about the scene at the end of episode one where Cromwell speaks to Wolsey’s ghost.
Wolsey tells him that people used to sneer at him as “a butcher’s dog,” but they forget something important about dogs: dogs are loyal. And Cromwell quietly responds, “I have been loyal.”
And it’s true that he’s destroyed everyone Wolsey might have blamed for his downfall: Anne Boleyn, George Boleyn, Thomas More, even Henry Norris. But then Wolsey’s ghost says (and this isn’t entirely verbatim): Will you ever strike at the true architect of my downfall? Your sovereign?
It’s a moment that forces Cromwell to confront a truth he’s avoided. None of the people Cromwell sent to the scaffold could have destroyed Wolsey without Henry. Henry gave the order. Henry wanted it done. And now Cromwell serves the very man who cast Wolsey aside.
This is the contradiction at Cromwell’s core. He built his career on loyalty to Wolsey, but Wolsey’s fall created the vacuum that allowed Cromwell to rise (especially as a lowborn man replacing another lowborn man in a world dominated by the gentry and nobility). Every move Cromwell makes isn’t just vengeance for Wolsey; it secures Cromwell’s position.
But Anne Boleyn’s execution also sets a chilling precedent. If Henry can judicially murder his wife (the woman he spent seven years courting, the mother of his child), then no one is safe. Anne’s death shows that titles, connections, mean nothing when Henry’s will is in play.
The same is true of Thomas More. More’s execution wasn’t just about enforcing religious orthodoxy—it was further proof that Henry would get rid of anyone, even someone he had known for years, who had been his tutor and intellectual mentor during his youth and early kingship. Cromwell created the machinery of power that made anyone disposable. And eventually, this same system turned back on Cromwell himself.
This is why Wolf Hall is such a fantastic treatise on power and how absolute power corrupts and devours all in its path. There’s an almost karmic theme throughout the novels, where the acts people commit in the pursuit of power eventually come back to destroy them. Cromwell avenges Wolsey by perpetuating the same ruthless system that destroyed him. Henry is both his patron and his executioner, the man who raises him to power and the man who will ultimately end him.
