one of the things i genuinely miss about florida is a restaurant called soupa saiyan. they do tasty soup & noodle bowls & the whole restaurant is done up in dragon ball memorabilia, including a goofy life-size vegeta statue. the vegetarian options are called "vegeta"rian soup & picco-bowl, which is pure me bait but they are both very good. i love having fun. if you are for some reason in orlando or jacksonville (in general would not recommend going either of these places, but things happen), you should totally go & get a soup

(As an ask for the mod, what doll line inspires you most when writing/designing galaco?

Oh! Mod question! I’m inspired by a couple different dolls, actually. The one that inspired me around the time I started my big stylistic change in my art was the Pinky Street series.

Their proportions and infinite clothes options make me super super happy, and I just love how they’re shaped.

The other dolls I take inspiration from are the Azone Picco Neemo D series. Their huge hands and thicker legs just feel so expressive to me.

The last one that brings me a lot of inspo for shape design is the Piccodo Cute Body 10. Just look at those shapes! They’re full of joy!!

I also take inspirations from Licca-chan and Barbie in that they’re fashion dolls with infinite wardrobes, hairstyles, and possibilities!!

Oh you'd be surprised to know that demon!Céleste was designed way before I even made a post about her! There's a bit of story behind her conception:

I think it was around 1-2 years ago? That me and my friend poppy (@poplyy_ on twitter!! :D) were toying around with AUs regarding our own characters and loved to mess with swap AUs in particular.

For context, both of us had angel characters completely unrelated to one another, but we still liked to imagine them in different scenarios and what their designs would be like in these alternative universes. Naturally, when it comes to having angel characters, you of course would want to imagine what they would look like as demons, right? I initially thought of demon!Céleste to be all black and fuzzy, like her friend Picco, but never had gone as far to have drawn it.

Poppy drew her own version of demon!Céleste for fun, and I immediately disregarded my initial design idea for hers, because I loved the concept of a red imp so much:

It was from there that I wanted to draw demon!Céleste as an adult, using adult Céleste's base design and basing it off of Poppy's doodle:

Which answers your question, that Caramael was indeed also given a demon design to match with Céleste haha! Immediately after drawing Céleste, I turned to her champion, as I thought demon knights would be really cool as a concept.

They both later got updates in their AU designs though, I had to give demon!Céleste hair because my friends kept making fun of the fact that she looked a little bald compared to her angel design where her wings made her look fluffy LMAO

Demon!Caramael was also made black+white as opposed to black+red so that he could contrast with demon!Céleste better :]

It was from that point where I just self indulged in my own characters and continued playing with these AUs, thinking about their potential and what different interpetations can be done with them :]

Ye no problem!

Piccoletta's tankiness mostly boils down to her high evasion and her decoy. Her high evasion makes her a dodge tank similar to Groma, but Picco also has the added bonus of her decoy, which also allows her to stand apart from the other tank units.

Whereas other tank units are vulnerable to magic (Erador and Flanagan having low Magic Defense, and Magic Ignoring evasion, making Groma vulnerable) the decoy is a decoy. Since it can be brought back just so long as Piccoletta is alive and has the tp, it can essentially keep taking magic attacks. And although Picco's other non-evasion stats are low, this works in the decoy's favor, as it means enemies are more likely to target it.

So yeah. She's kinda a weird tank, but she's really handy against mages (especially bc mages wasting tp on the decoy weakens them until they recharge) as well as a certain endgame boss.

Mikunology Reviews #2: NX STARS (2022)

Alright, here is my second review! Today, I'm reviewing something much more recent and kind of obscure depending on your circles...the album NX STARS created by VOCALOEDM circle NEXTLIGHT!

Uh, so, like I said, I wanted to review mostly albums I'm interested in (someone did give me a suggestion I might follow up on though) and as a big EDM listener and a fan of several of the DJs in NEXTLIGHT, I figured I'd give the NX series some spotlight. I'd like to review some of NEXTLIGHT's other projects as well in the future. But anyways, let's get on it!

Star Theory - We start off the album with a song from Reno! This song is a bright, poppy electropop track, fitting to the album's star concept. I have to say, it's a good start: the song has a strong dazzling air about it, complemented by Miku's vivid and cute vocals. It definitely has this "sparkling" vibe with the way the synths are used, and it does a good job at getting you ready and excited for what's ahead. Pretty good!

Sono Koe wa Kagami no Gotoku (That Voice That's Like a Mirror) - OK, not gonna lie, this is probably my favorite track on the album and we're only on #2! I'm admittedly kinda late on hopping on the keisei fan train - I wasn't a big fan of "Singularity", to be honest. But this song is wonderful: the song's guitar and piano and the almost "soaring" feeling of the music is incredibly refreshing and addicting. Not to mention, this song uses Miku NT fantastically - she sounds nearly indistinguishable from V4, minus some light engine noise. I don't know how keisei does it.

Tenbinzu no Principal (Libra's Principal) - A dazzling pop/future bass track courtesy of colate! I don't think I liked this one overly much upon first listen, but relistening to it has made me like it a bit more. Like Star Theory, it has this very "sparkly" and "magical" feel to it, between the twinkling synths, dashes of violin and light, clean future bass drops. Still, I think this one is a bit on the forgettable side compared to the previous two tracks.

Candy Load - emon my beloved!! A sort of guest on part of NEXTLIGHT, he brings his typical fun and fresh pop to the album. It feels a slight bit different from his usual stuff, so to speak: Miku's vocals (which are provided by Miku Sweet) feel more subdued than usual, and it has some more chill parts to it. But, it is a good track! The chorus is as funky and catchy as only emon can bring, and I can easily have a good bop to it. If you like "Metamo-Ribbon", for instance, I think you're easily gonna love this one. Probably one of the more stand-out tracks.

Kashimashi Bischet - A new track provided by Twinfield! However, unfortunately…I kinda feel lukewarm on this one. Don't get me wrong, it is a fun track, but I feel like it has trouble standing out, with the only part that really got my attention being the drop before the final chorus - it leads into this really cool and fun-sounding instrumental section, and it makes the following chorus feel a lot more fun as a result! Basically, the song feels a bit like it takes too long to "get good". But eh, I'll give it a 5/10.

Magical Shiny Sky - This track is provided by picco, aka the current queen of Vocaloid future bass XD I have to say, though, this track is pretty good! I feel like during my first listen of this album, I didn't give it too much credit, but I think it's pretty cool. It has a great beat to it and it grabs you from the get-go, and it keeps that fun, jumping quality going through the whole thing. And again, this song has the signature "sparkly" element most of the album has been keeping! It feels pretty satisfying as a future bass track.

Ride the Light - This song is written by Capchii! This has a somewhat harder beat to it, making it kind of unique since this album has mostly been light electropop. However, I don't think I'm super keen on this track: the music itself is good, with the harder electropop beat working for it well and having a fairly catchy hook, but I'm kinda…lukewarm on Miku's vocals? I think Capchii uses her well on average, but she sounds kinda underwhelming on this track and it makes the song kinda so-so.

Ryuusei Empathy (Meteor Empathy) - This next track is by another "guest", Buono! This one is hard to describe…I can't name any traits from it that the other tracks on this album don't adhere to? This one has a sorta funky chorus, almost emon-like, but despite listening to it a few times I find this one mostly forgettable. Sorry, Buono :'D

Your Wish - A second track created by Reno! This one is good - admittedly not as strong as Star Theory, in my opinion, but with a nice uplifting and bopping vibe to it. I'm growing more and more fond of their way of tuning Miku as well :D The way she sings "Your wish come true" at the end of the chorus is super satisfying and definitely instilled a Feeling™ in me. High rec this one!

Outer Shelter's - Finally, our last track is brought about by Adomiori! This one is actually rather chill compared to the rest of the CD - it's more slow and emotional rather than perky and bouncy, but it still keeps the happy theme of the album. I really like it, actually?? The way Miku sings in this one is very nice, and I love the vibes here - it really gives that sort of "floating in space" feeling. The melody both for the vocals and the drop is great. It feels like a very suitable final track to end off such a starry tracklist.

And that's it! Overall, I'd say this album is pretty good - even if I say a song is sorta mid, I can't necessarily say any of them are absolutely worth skipping (i.e. really bad), and most of the tracks are very enjoyable. If you enjoy electropop or future bass when it comes to VOCALOID, I think you will enjoy most if not all of NX STARS. I highly encourage you to check out NEXTLIGHT if this album seems up your alley!

I'm thinking next week, I could cover my favorite from the NX series, NX ENCHANT, but idk, maybe I'll do something else instead. I hope you enjoyed my review ;v;

(Sorry Orpheus doesn't have any tattoos, my hands started hurting and I had to choose between shading or tattoos, but I went with shading because it suits the picture better.) Last week I said I was going to pull out some of my Pullips for pictures this past weekend, so of course I ended up having no time. I did have a little bit of time today to pull out my Little Dal /Picco Neemo hybrid for some quick pics. I love the way the Picco Neemo body looks with the mini Pullips and Dals, so much nicer than the bodies the minis come with, and the combo creates a great little travel doll.

And to make traveling easier with this tiny (or any of my tiny bjds) I got this cute glasses case, which makes it easy to pack up a tiny and go:

I ordered a used Shinobu nendoroid figure off ebay for the parts and she came today. I got it a good price so I'm very happy she can have more expressions now. Honestly, in the future I might avoid buying more nendoroid dolls and simply make my own because there bodies are so weirdly segmented. I've also been doing more research into other 1/12 bodies for nendoroid dolls and I've fallen in love with the Picco Neemo series. Unfortunately, the one I have my eyes on, the Picco Neemo D sister type doesn't seem to be avaiable anymore :(

There are other models in the same size that are available, I just like this one the most. I've found a few ebay listings, but idk if I'm willing to pay 50+ bucks when I can easily get the other models for half that. Probably just a future thing to worry about. Not to mention I have 3 dolls I'm still waiting to be shipped out. I pre ordered the loyal subject's vintage strawberry shortcake doll and 2 of the Ten Thousand Escape Plans blind box series and I'm very excited for them. For the strawberry shortcake doll, if her articulation is anything like the star brite doll I got, I think I'll get her a new body. Star brite's articulation is fine, just unevenly colored and kinda bulky. For a $12 doll it's fairly good, I'd just something a little more smooth. I also really want to make a doll house for all my dolls, I just don't really know where to start :/

needless to say, gluing down the antennae really helped her out.  she still does not pass the Sit Test.  it should be possible, but her waist really doesn’t like it and will pop loose while i’m trying to adjust the pose.  however, she does get the Tony Hawk Pro Skater Seal of Approval.

i never took a picture of it because lol lmao she balances perfectly well with the antennae fix she doesn’t need it unless you want to pose her using floatshoes, but she does come with a nicely themed stand, which plugs into her button!  so it’s both pretty unnoticeable when it’s not in and hey, cool, she has a stand.  good thinkin’ there.

(at this point, i forgot that the reason kotobukiya classic roll is consigned to the tchochke shelf instead of hanging out with the other figures is that she loves to fall apart without warning.  really, really loves it.  i’ve gotten so spoiled by megami device kaede, when nearly a decade separates the two sculpts lmao)

i fully expect series two to be half taken up by the insanely conspicuously absent usual suspects of blooz and fort.  but at the same time, their being missing here (in favor of gutsman and fireman!  this is really an exe episode 8 collection, not a bn1 collection!) really tells me that bandai has more plans for this series?  and that is good, because there are a lot of navi designs i love that i would be incredibly happy to have a smol, posable representation of.  like elecman!  and toadman!  and aquaman!  and medi!  and RING PLEASE CAN WE GET THAT FAR

First, I'm going to apologize to all the fans of Non mi avete fatto niente--it's my runner-up of Eurovision 2018 and in Sanremo too (recently, I watched all the songs of that edition, and the top three was just about right). Despite Non mi avete fatto niente's power in its lyrics and message, one song just clicked with me...

...and I found about it after the 2018 contest.

Il Mondo Prima di Te is a classic ballad (and not too creative in comparison to NMAFN and Una vita in vacanza, the runner-up), but it more than makes up for it with its storytelling and the sincerity Annalisa injects into it. Telling a story of a love let go, it has such beautiful images such as two flowers sprouting from a similar root, and has a sweetness towards it all, despite the sadness. It builds fantastically from verse to chorus, before it tempers a bit for the bridge.

The studio cut is quite solid, but I think the Sanremo performance is even better. The strings elevate the song from what it was, and add so much drama to it, especially during the second chorus. Annalisa is a fantastic singer, and she puts it all into the show. So I think the jury would've really responded to this in 2018, but I'm not sure about the televote.

But the important question is--why would've this been my all-time favorite Eurovision song had it won? Let me count the ways:

--It has a beautiful melody, which gets you from the beginning and doesn't let go. --It's a familiar story told in a very nuanced way. Parting is really sad, but there's a bit of sweetness due to what memories are left. --Annalisa is a consummate performer, able to control her voice and switch genres on the top of a hat.

And thus..it would've dethroned Oniro Mou as my winner of 2018. (And I won't have to worry about a studio cut going bad live, haha)
