Thinking about how after the ending of Wentworth Vera is the only person to know that Joan not only escaped but also saved her life as she did so. How this final moment must have reframed their recent interactions for Vera, making her realize that the two of them had changed one another in more ways than they had realized. Even if they never see each other again from now on, they will be changed irrevocably because of their time together.
Throughout each one of their interactions that season, Vera was aggressive and lashing out at Joan even when it was cruel and went against who she was to do so. If Joan wouldn't be the cruel woman Vera once knew her to be, then she would try to provoke her into becoming that woman again, but in doing so it really just showed that Vera had become the thing she said she'd never be - like Governor Ferguson. Her actions towards Joan/Kath in the final season are emotionally charged in a similar way to when Joan believed that Vera had betrayed her in season 3 and had become paranoid and acted rashly with little concern to others, with the justification that it was all for the "greater good" and that she knew best.
Despite everyone around her and all the evidence suggesting that Joan really was harmless as Kath at the start of season 8, Vera refuses to believe that the woman who had such an impact on her life has gone and is paranoid that she will end up hurt/betrayed if she believes in Kath. This paranoia and stubbornness then leads her to act cruelly towards Kath because she justifies how she is acting as being for the "greater good" of everyone by punishing Joan for her past actions - despite the fact that it's not really Joan she's punishing in those moments. And it's these actions (ordering the spitbag in particular) that cause Joan's memories to return and therefore unleash the monster back into her life.
Vera had taken over the antagonistic role that was once Joan's in their relationship, emulating the authoritative and self-righteous character of her past mentor-and-friend-turned-enemy. And as she took on that role, Joan became the one with little power or control in their relationship, deferring meekly to Vera as her superior in the prison hierarchy. Someone raised to believe that emotions are a weakness was having to recognise and process that not only did she have strong emotions, but that these emotions were brought on because of Vera. Throughout their interactions in the season, Joan is incredibly earnest towards Vera and shows a great level of concern and care for her even if at first she doesn't understand it herself. It is through seeing and talking to Vera again that Joan learns to put others before herself - something that was once Vera's biggest weakness (before she met Joan), has now become a sign of positive growth for Joan.
That's not to say that Vera wasn't still the caring and loving woman we've seen throughout the show or that Joan didn't still engage and desire cruel/violent behaviours , but rather that over the course of their relationship they drew strength from the others weaknesses. Despite any claim of hatred for one another by the final episode, it's impossible to hide just how much the two have changed through knowing one another.
As Joan walks away from Vera and into the distance at the end of the final episode, the symbiotic nature of their relationship comes to an end, but the two of them will be forever changed from knowing one another.

saw your reblog snd. vera would very much welcome a visit but she might be uh… hard to find… and a little scared that onyx might report that he found her but. i kinda wanna know what you think if onyx did find vera eventually ?
HHYYEYY HI HI HI JUNE!!! sorry you are probably in school rn . . . I hope that is going well! Anyways back to Vera and Onyx. . .
🥺👉👈 i hope it is okay that i am going to write something instead of actually . . . answer your question directly *cries* but basically, Onyx would be actively seeking her out because he's been worried about her since her round. I don't know how to exactly articulate his thought process in a straightforward way atm (which is honestly why I'm going to write instead of just saying it lmao)
trigger/content warning for gore, mentioned/referenced death
As soon as he got out of the holding pod, brushing past Oryon and ignoring the huff of frustration that earned him, Nyx ran to the place he last saw Vera. The staff backstage didn't stop him or even give him a passing glance, recognizing him as one of the contestants in the upcoming 16th round. He didn't think too hard about the fact that he was only some two, three weeks away from his end. He couldn't think too much about it or else he was at risk of falling into a downward double helix of mental decay.
Splotches and rivulets of blood dribbled and dripped along the typically cold, clean floors. The particular river that found its way to the source of Flor, Rosca, or Ellie, well, that was unclear. He followed each tributary to the mouth, unflinching in the face of the gore and viscera being cleaned off of the floor and the bodies, before they could be disposed of. It was nearly impossible to tell that Ellie was ever bleeding, her hemorrhage the same shade as the halo of curls around her face. He wondered, distantly, what they were going to do with the bodies. He slunk away before he got a chance to find out.
She loved her. She loved her and she took her life. How could something like that happen? Part of him just can't let it go. He rubbed at his face and let out a sigh. Rosca loved Flor and decided to die with her. Love shows itself in different ways, he supposed.
Finding a messy, smudged trail of red on the floor, not belonging to any of the girls who died tonight, Nyx walked beside it, careful not to smudge the blood further. By process of elimination, this path must to belong to Vera, who ran away uninjured but not unscathed by the spray of gore, the hem of her white dress absolutely drenched in it as she fled. Nyx made sure that no one noticed him weaving his way through the throng of people mulling about, as well as the ones rushing in and out of the backstage on a mission, and he ducked behind a thick fabric, deeper into the belly of the arena.
Luckily enough, Nyx has always been good at finding things. Whether or not something is lost or someone just doesn't know where it is, Nyx can find it, with nearly 10/10 results. It's only been a few times he hasn't been able to, and he prefers to think of those as outliers, rather than the rule. He doesn't know how long exactly it takes but, as always, he finds Vera.
Pushing the vent open and crawling out into a dimly-lit room, Nyx blinks in surprise when he sees a small figure huddled in the corner, white ruffles fanning out around her in waves, the edges stained with crimson slowly oxidizing into copper. Her head pops up and she locks eyes with him, eyebrows shooting up as soon as she sees him, and she recedes in on herself further, something he hadn't really believed possible.
"Vera," he starts hesitantly, unsure of what he really wants to say. She stiffens, going as still as stone, giving him pause. He takes a moment to close the vent panel behind him and the moment he turns around, she's lunging at him, her hands at his throat. His back hits the wall with a clang and he wheezes at the sudden restriction on his trachea but somehow, he knows that she doesn't truly mean to hurt him. Maybe it's the way her hands trembling are against his neck.
"If you even think of speaking to anyone about this and- and turning me in," she tells him, her voice wavering ever so slightly. Her jade eyes bore into him, always dull since the incident but somehow even duller since she won her round. "I- I'll make sure you never speak again." He swallows and feels her grip tighten.
"Ver. . . Vera," he rasps. "I wouldn't do . . . that." Her eyes narrow before she raises an eyebrow at him.
"Swear on it," she demands. He holds up his hand, pinky raised. She glances to it, hesitating before letting out a sigh and releasing his neck. She wraps her pinky around his and nods to him. "Alright."
"Are you okay?" He croaks. She looks at him for a moment before letting out a bitter, cracking laugh.
"What do you think?"
"No, you're not," he answers softly. He holds out his hand to her. "Is there . . . anything I can do?" Vera is silent for a long moment before she puts her hand in his, tangling their fingers together. She nestles into his side and gives him a questioning look.
"Can," she breathes, looking down at the ground. "Can we just stay like this? For a little while?" Nyx feels himself smile and he wraps his free arm around her.
"Of course, as long as you need."

i mean to be honest vis a vis relating to i saw the tv glow as a trans person i didnt really relate to it . bc most of my Trans Coming Out Experiences have been lost to time (very minimal memory of anything pre-2024 or my feelings during any event ever) and ive never had the most common trans/queer awakening moments i think but. as a movie i quite liked it i liked the colors and sets and i liked the directing and i thought the actors/actresses/etc did a very lovely job and it was a compelling movie regardless even if it didnt connect with me the way a lot of other people are saying it did...it was a good story

it's always kind of a weird situation when you dislike something but it's not because it's bad, so it feels like it's difficult to explain why you don't like it.
i really dislike Ace Attorney 4, just. based on vibes alone. and i sound like a crazy person every time i try to explain it KRKFK
i simply don't like it. but i see why people like it, too. i respect how bold it was with the direction it wished to take the series. it didn't want to rest on its laurels and tried a new angle for the games. it just didn't work for me. i love DD and SOJ, they're my favorite games in the series, but they play way too safe after the mixed reaction to AA4 and it really undermined Apollo's character, and the other characters tbh.
i don't really care about most of the plot points set up in AA4 so it doesn't actually bother me, but i see on an objective level that it's fucking absurd that they dropped everything except for like, the dark age law stuff and if i was an AA fan experiencing DD and SOJ as they came out i'd be kinda pissed they just ignored everything AA4 set up.
it's just profoundly, deeply not for me. and i'm kinda relieved the rest of the trilogy didn't follow in its footsteps. i guess that's all i should have to say.

This may or may not be me talking about Vera but I have a newfound love for girls who are simply a mess™️. Not a girlboss. Not badass. Not someone who people regularly simps or want to get near to at all TBH. Just BARK BARK BARK biting randos who don't sit well with her like a rabid dog and digs her heels into the spine of her teammates if the way they breathe so much irritates her.

to me this line doesnt just apply to vera (who passes away in the bad ending where she receives a guilty verdict; i intepret that as her committing suicide somehow) but also to thalassa... my personal interpretation is that her accident just took away her eyesight and her amnesia was a psychological response to all of her trauma, bc of how hesitant she is to try and recover her eyesight/memory while she was lamiroir + this quote from her in this same scene
Tumblr media
so i think this whole "having something worth living for" line applies to thalassa too, bc the mason system didnt just supply vera's innocence, but also gave thalassa a reason to look forward to life (she learns tht she has two children who grew up into happy and healthy young individuals)... 🥹
