so... i think i've achieved consistent one-phase pyro regisvine by leveling up kazuha's burst to 6 and bennett's aquila favonia to 85. which is good. but it can be better. i want to get to the point where popping chongyun's burst is enough to kill it. for now i still have to do some normals and a second pop of his skill in order to kill it
#⇢₊˚⊹ 🩷∥ruby∥yo,ide yo !!#after raising kazuha's burst to level 9 i'll work on bennett's burst next#i want to exhaust all other options first before crit fishing yet again#i would crown bennett's burst as a sort of thank you for carrying me through the entire game alongside chong#but i want to triple crown cyno first#plus talent level 10 is a massive investment and for now i just don't think it's worth the hassle#i have 6 crowns in total. 3 of which are for cyno while 2 will go to bennett and xingqiu's bursts respectively#still haven't decided who to give the last crown to#i love collei and she was part of my main team the longest out of the other flex members#but i just don't use her outside of archery puzzles these days. and those don't require high talent levels#yanfei is my third dps but i don't feel as strongly attached to her yet as i do chongqiunett collei and cyno so idk if i'll crown her#i might triple crown xingqiu tho if the day ever comes when the temptation to build him as a dps finally consumes me#cuz i'll definitely have at least one more crown by the time that happens#in any case,i'll hold on to the last crown for now and see what happens#(yes i know there's no real point in leveling up cyno's normals. but my first triple-crown is chongyun; that should be enough to tell you#that i crown my characters out of Love™ and not practicality#(although i do have to think about that too. crowns are limited after all. if i had my way i would also triple crown benny qiu and collei)#(and also level all of them to 90 because sentimentality is a force that has become too strong for me to beat)#(it is kinda satisfying to see their exp slowly inching upwards tho. benny's about two-thirds away from level 81)#(i only wish i ascended all of them at once so exp would serve as a metric to see who gets the most use)

Twilight's Guilt
*Spoilers for Spy x Family Chapter 107*
I haven't seen anyone talking about this yet, but I just can't get it out of my head.
Chapter 107 is a real goldmine for Twilight The Spy. All these amazing connections! All this potential intelligence! He can finally feel like he is extracting what he can from Anya's hard-won connections at Eden, and he is fully using every opportunity possible to squeeze what he can for Operation Strix.
And then Jeeves had to go ahead and say this:
Tumblr media
Jeeves really hits the nail on the head here.
He probably knows about the responsibilities and expectations that are put on the Eden kids by all of their parents - of which he understands Damian's position the most intimately - but at this point in time, Jeeves (likely) has no idea of the extra burden that has been put on one child in particular.
That is, Twilight's burden on Anya.
Not just the burden of becoming an Imperial Scholar, and doing well in her tests, and making friends with the right people: only Twilight knows about the burden of being a fake family, of having to complete a mission, and dispose of her when it's over.
"How I hope that these children are to remain forever unburdened by the statures and standpoints of their parents..."
Tumblr media
This is what I love about Endo's storytelling so much: so much is said with so few words and gestures.
Because after Jeeves says his piece, we get a look from Twilight. It's interesting - he almost looks bored, but the lack of response is by itself so telling, even when the other parents express their remorse.
To me, he looks exhausted. This pretence must be so exhausting.
Then his gaze turns towards Anya.
And: he's guilty.
Twilight knows that Jeeves is right; that by taking up a fatherly role for this child, he has automatically burdened her with his own goals and expectations.
Which then leads us to this panel:
Tumblr media
I love this panel so much. I honestly felt myself tearing up looking at it.
The first thing that the reader notices is the vast expanse of negative space: everything and everyone else has faded away, and now it is only them. Without the bustling festival and rowdy kids and background characters, suddenly the reader is so aware of the distance between Twilight and Anya. We know that this distance is emotional as well as physical; because Twilight has put himself in the position of the 'onlooker', he is separating his emotions and keeping himself distant from Anya as a person.
I also couldn't help but notice that this panel, unlike every other one on this spread, did not have a border. Endo intended the negative space around them to be endless and borderless, to show that the guilt has the potential to swallow Twilight entirely.
Finally, the size difference between them: while we can interpret this as distance, I also see their physical forms as an illustration of their difference in power. In that sense, one could say that Twilight is larger in this panel, because he overwhelms Anya in the power that he holds over her. He is her 'father'; the man who took her away from the orphanage; and the man who could put her back without a second's notice. Twilight is fully aware of all of this.
(Despite his ignorance of Anya's telepathic power, the scale is still very much in Twilight's favour.)
We even see this side of Anya as though from Twilight's perspective: suddenly, Anya is just a child that caught up in something so much bigger. With our view just of Twilight's back, we can imagine the weight that this must have on his shoulders, bearing a burden that only he is aware of.
Tumblr media
And yet, here you are, Twilight...
Despite the attention paid to Twilight's guilt in this double-page spread, Twilight is still very much back to 'business as usual' within the next couple of pages after this. After all, he has a mission to complete. As a spy, he should be adept at compartmentalising his emotions by now...
... Or perhaps, his only option is to keep squashing his guilt down, before he drowns in it.

She's Mine [Part 1]
Qimir x (she/her)!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Events take place after episode 8 of the acolyte. You are Qimirs new acolyte after agreeing to train under him. But, first you both must escape to the outer rim and outrun the Jedi who now hunts you. A precarious situation arises when you suddenly owe a debt to the local gunrunner... but it could be just the opportunity you've been hoping for. Now you have to break the news to Qimir... Shit. Warnings: Angst, Angry Qimir, cursing Notes: I plan for this to be a slow burn story between you and Qimir. Haven't officially decided on a permanent title yet. And yes there will be plenty of future smut but I wanna do this right!
*Im trying my best to use canon history but high republic era is a little difficult so there will be discrepancies and times where I have to improvise... bear with me!
She's Mine [Intro] She's Mine [Part 1] She's Mine [Part 2]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Republic's influence and reach were stronger than ever, and with that came the ever-present shadow of the Jedi. Since narrowly escaping Vernestra on Brandok, the last few months had been a blur. You were never truly safe. Settling down had been more a matter of necessity than comfort, and even then, "settling" was a stretch.
You were still trapped within the confines of Republic space. Your ship's transponder was a liability, a beacon that couldn’t slip past any checkpoints unnoticed. The only real refuge was the Outer Rim, far from the vigilant eyes of the Jedi and the ever-watchful Republic. But the closest jump to Hutt space was out of reach, forcing you to land on the barren sands of Jakart.
The Jedi were already scouring the galaxy for any sign of force discrepancies, even in the most remote backwater planets. And you both couldn't very well lead them back to Qimirs home. So, you made the choice to hide in plain sight, settling in a place where the noise of a thousand other lives could drown out your presence. Jakart, with its swarms of thugs, scavengers, and criminals, was the perfect cover. Here, you could disappear into the crowd, becoming just another face. But you knew that this was a temporary solution; the longer you stayed, the more you pushed your luck, and the longer you went without proper training.
You didn’t know when—or if—another opportunity like Ian’s would come along. Passage to the Outer Rim on a ship that could evade Republic scouts was a rare gift, one that you couldn’t afford to lose But now, you had to face the hard part: breaking the news to Qimir.
As you scanned into the small, cramped building you and Qimir now called home, a wave of exhaustion washed over you. The door slid open with a hiss, and you stepped inside, the faint hum of the city’s underbelly muffled by the walls. You pulled off your cloak, shaking off the fine layer of dust that clung to it, a grim reminder of the harsh environment outside. Your eyes stung from the grit of the sand, and you rubbed them wearily. It had been a long, grueling day.
The dimly lit room felt stifling, the walls pressing in with the weight of the choices you had to make. You tossed the cloak aside and took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself before the inevitable conversation. Qimir wasn’t going to like what you had to say, but there was no other option.
The sound of Qimir moving around in the next room broke your train of thought. You squared your shoulders, pushing down the fatigue, and stepped forward.
There he stood. Looking at you through wisps of black hair, slick with sweat. His eyes, which you once thought were brown, seemed almost black now, with a sharpness that felt more predatory than human.
"You're back." He exclaimed.
"I picked up some Jogans." You tilted your head in the direction of the small table in the corner.
"Feeling hungry after that mug today?"
You only sighed in response.
"That thug tried to take my shit... Would you have rather I just let him walk away?"
He tilted his head back in frustration, his adams apple bobbing as he swallowed whatever distaste was rising in his throat.
"How many times do I have to remind you that our survival here banks on our ability to lay low."
"About that..."
His eyes locked on you, demanding an explanation.
"I found a ship that can take us to the outer rim, under the radar."
His eyebrows shot up in surprise "the pilot you found wasn't a bust after all."
You bristled at his tone, almost offended by his doubt. These past few months had shown how strained the relationship could become. It felt more like a game of cat and mouse, and you hated losing.
"Not exactly."
He continued to stare at you through his eyebrows. Why did he always have to stare at you like that.
"A smuggler can get us there."
"who's the smuggler."
He didn't waste any time. You tensed. Ian was the last name you wanted to give. But thats where this was headed anyways. You just had to bite the bullet.
"Ian Skynyr."
Even the name tasted bad on your tongue.
His jaw twitched.
Jeez this was gonna a difficult one to swallow.
"Skynyr." He repeated.
He took a long pause before continuing. "No."
"This is our only shot. You know as well as I do that a freighter like his could secure us both passage safely off of Jakart. I just have to help him out then we can---"
"Help him with what exactly." He cut you off.
You froze.
"Its just a job." You stated casually.
"What kind of job."
"Obtaining and transporting cargo to some client." You brushed it off as if it were a mere fly buzzing past your ear.
"What else."
"Thats all he told me."
"Details matter y/n."
"No they don't matter... because this might be our only chance to get to the outer rim."
"Whatever debt he thinks you owe him... forget it. Skynyr is an idiot. Wherever he goes a blaster target follows him."
"I know, I know. I trust him about as far as I can throw him. But he's all we've got. So, I'm doing it."
"And the deal we made?"
"What about it? I'm not going back on anything. So being your acolyte is following whatever you say regardless? Can you not trust me on this?"
He grimaced.
"No. It means don't fall into a mess I have to pull you out of."
"I can handle myself just fine. I thought Brandok proved that."
"Brandok only revealed how reckless you are right now."
Did the death of your old master, at your own hands, prove nothing to him?
No.
You were bartering with a man that had no interest with the rest of what you had to say. But no matter how much he disliked this plan or how much of a headache your existence seemed to him at this moment... he couldn't resist the appeal of Ians secure passage through Republic space.
"Do you have any better ideas then?"
He sighed, finally breaking eye contact and looking down at the floor. His posture slumped as he leaned against the wall, just as exhausted as you were.
"If you can come up with one, I wont take Ians offer. Otherwise we should take this deal."
You didn’t wait for a reply. Instead, you walked into the next room, slumping onto the small cot that had been your bed for the past few weeks.
You imagined that the only reason he didn't follow was because he knew the truth, which was that you both had no idea when another chance like this would arise. He was just angry it involved working for Ian.
You replayed what Qimir had said to you.
Brandok only revealed how reckless you are right now.
You realized that killing your old master did prove your commitment. But to Qimir it also unearthed how little he truly knew you. And something he couldn't predict or control... that probably terrified him.
Good.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You basically had to drag Qimir to the landing platform where Ians team was meeting. The air was filled with hyper fluid and gases that singed your nostrils. It reminded you of your old post fixing up freighters like the one that now towered before you. Although, that life now felt like it belonged to someone else.
Ian practically beamed when he saw you both approach, his voice cutting through the cacophony of the buzzing platform. "Glad to see you made it."
You only gave him a small nod in return face remaining neutral.
The rest of the crew were people you recognized from around the bazaar.
The Transdoshan known as Kiro. His presence was intimidating, standing at an imposing 6'7", with a build that suggested he could break bones as easily as he could snap his scaly talons.
Next to him was Shaun, a grizzled sharpshooter. He gave you a curt nod, acknowledging your presence with the little care.
A droid, its model old but well-maintained, stood quietly beside them. You couldn’t quite place its make, but it looked functional and that’s all that mattered.
And Ian. Your point of contact - begrudgingly so.
"Our buyer is interested in a rarity being sold at auction tomorrow on Carinth. Job is to secure the cargo and transport it. We'll rendezvous with him on Canto Bight."
"how do you intend to secure the bid. I'm guessing you don't have nearly enough credits to bid on something that an anonymous buyer wants"
Your skeptic tone was thinly veiled.
"Who said anything about bidding with actual credits."
"So what, you yell fire and then grab it in the chaos?"
"Our operation is a little more refined than that."
Qimir scoffed earning a frown from Ian.
Kiro growled, lacing his arms together in a tight cross obviously put off by Qimirs severe lack of respect for any of them.
"The buyer is willing to pay whatever sum for the item plus our services. But he doesn't want to be tied to the acquisition of the aforementioned cargo. So we're going to act as his ambassador of sorts"
"And how do you intend to make the highest bid."
"Rod here is going to take care of that." He gestured to the droid. "So no matter what you have the highest bid."
"Wait, that I have the highest bid?"
"Well Yord was supposed to be the stand in for the auction and canto bight but he's kinda occupied right now."
It took everything in you to bite your tongue.
"You said this was a simple job." You bristled.
"It is."
"You never said anything about impersonating a bidder."
"You didn't ask sweetheart."
Qimir clenched his jaw.
"Yord normally keeps a low profile which made him the best suited for the stand in. Unlucky that he broke his streak on trying to rob you"
"I'll be recognized."
"Where we'll be, no one is going to give two bactas about who you are. These aren't the type of joints where saints congregate. Jedi will be the least of your worries."
"Why are the Jedi looking for you two anyways." Shaun questioned suddenly very interested in the conversation.
"Thats none of your concern."
Shaun put his hands up realizing that you weren't one to answer pointed questions.
"Whats the item I'll be bidding on."
"that also happens to be none of your concern either."
"If we're doing this job I need more information to make sure were not walking into anything we can't walk out of."
"Even if I wanted to I couldn't tell you. The item only goes by its bidding number and the client wont share beyond that. Also I don't really care what it is... as long as I get paid. You're now the stand in on Carinth and Canto Bight, and thats all I'll hear of it."
"Why was it Yord? why me?"
"There's a strong likelihood that the rest of us aren't exactly on the best terms with some of the attendees frequenting the auction, especially not in Canto Bight. We need someone who’s not a big player—or better yet, someone who’s completely unknown. The client insists on absolute secrecy. The fewer issues we encounter and questions we face, the better."
You couldn't deny that everything he stated made sense for a job such as this.
"So what happens when they find out the credits being transferred are fake?"
"Thats when we blast out of there like a bat out of hell."
You almost smirked. You hated to admit it but the chase excited you.
"So you're what is considered a big player?" You replied mockingly.
"Ouch." He pretended to take a knife to the heart.
"Fine."
"And just because I like you so very much y/n I'll let the two of you split Yords share."
"How generous of you, Ian." You swallowed your words with disdain.
"I like to think so." he smiled with great satisfaction. "Be here at 05:00."
Before you could nod your head, Qimir had already turned on his heal heading towards the exit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Whatever you have to say, go ahead. Get it out."
Qimir said nothing as you followed him down the ally. Though you could almost read the back of his head.
"Well if you're going to brood about it at least -"
Before you could get your next words out, you were slammed against the wall. The impact knocked the air from your lungs, and you barely had time to react before his hands pinned your arms to your sides, his grip like iron.
"This isn’t my fault," you gasped.
"Of course it isn’t," his voice was dripping with sarcasm.
You could feel the anger radiating off him. He continued.
"Skynyr is trouble, and nothing but. That makes him dangerous."
"And what are we exactly?" you shot back, your voice tinged with defiance. "What are we?"
"You know what we are," he replied. His tone was cold, as if stating an undeniable truth.
"So when did smugglers become the biggest, baddest thing in the galaxy? In the dark, there’s nothing to fear but us."
"Maker, you’re naive," he spat. "He’s more trouble than he’s worth."
"You’re right," you conceded, though your voice was steady with what you said next. "The sooner we leave the sooner we can continue training. And he’s our best shot out of here."
His jaw clenched, and his teeth bared in a snarl. The rage in his eyes was palpable, and for a moment, you felt a shiver run down your spine. He tightened his grip, pressing you harder against the cold, unforgiving wall. The proximity, the force, everything about the moment screamed danger, yet you held your ground.
"The only reason I’m willing to go along with this little drama," he whispered, a lethal calm overtaking him, his face inches from yours, "is because of that damn republic transponder. Maker knows who else has one... Maybe this trip will teach you a valuable lesson, my young apprentice."
Those last three words hung in the air like dead bodies.
Ghosts.
Ones that constantly haunted you.
My young apprentice.
It wasn’t just a title; it was a reminder of everything you had left behind when you walked away from the Order. He was asserting his authority, reminding you of what you were to him—and more importantly, what he was to you. The unspoken command was clear: Don’t forget it.
You could see the words of warning in his eyes.
"Yes, Master," you whispered.
He stared at you for a moment longer, as if to ensure you truly grasped the gravity of your position. He loosened his grip and pushed himself away from you, storming off toward the compound.
You remained against the wall for a few seconds longer, the echoes of the encounter still reverberating through your mind. The word “Master” clung to you like a weight.
The next morning you both had packed everything you owned... which was very little. But it wasn't the material things that weighed you down. Qimir lashed out at you for a good reason. It was the uncertainty, the sense that you were stepping into something that could very well get you both killed.
Or worst captured.
Maker help me. You whispered.

Thats it for today! Hope you liked it! If your feeling it, let me know what you think in the comments.

Iced Coffee
Jeong Yunho x F!Reader
They said Cupid's Coffee Station has a magic of bringing people together. Yunho happened to take a liking on it ever since it opened right across KQ Entertainment's building. And he also happened to meet you in there. Will the magic work?
Tumblr media
[Edited and Updated. Proof-read. June 19 2024]
Tumblr media
"Where's Yunho?" Mingi asked when the rest of the members walked in the practice room. Yunho has been in and out of the practice room ever since this morning. This routine of his started about two weeks ago.
Wooyoung laughed, "He said he likes the coffee across the street."
Mingi raised an eyebrow. "Is he... You?"
Wooyoung shrugged his shoulders with a smile on his face.
"Ready to leave, everyone?" Hongjoong, who just finished stuffing his bag, asked. "Where's Yunho?"
"Across the street." Mingi and Wooyoung answered at the same time.
Hongjoong scoffed, shaking his head. Mingi was getting suspicious. What's his friend been doing at the newly opened coffee shop?
Tumblr media
Cupid's Coffee Station — Your go-to café ever since you started attending Hongik University. It's one of those café's your college friends can't stop talking about. According to one of your classmates, this café has magic. Solely because it has the power of bringing people together. And by 'bringing people together', what she meant is setting up the most unlikely couples.
You almost laughed, hearing her voice in your head.  That does sound ridiculous, doesn't it?
But who are you to talk? Curiosity got the best of you anyway. Here you are every day, every after class, every chance you get, even during weekends.
You've seen a few of your friends meet someone at this place, yet here you are, a regular, and still haven't met anyone.
Magic. Right, who believes in magic anyway. Just because Cupid's name is in this café doesn't mean his arrow is in every corner of this room, too. Or maybe you're just not meant to meet anyone, really.
You shook your head. "If I don't meet anyone here, that just means there's no magic in this café. Simple." You murmured under your breath, your books colliding at the floral table mats.
It wasn't the first time Yunho saw you talk to yourself. He can tell that you're annoyed, or perhaps just exhausted, even though he couldn't hear the words coming out of your lips. He truly wishes he could just ask, but he is not at all confident in his ability to do so. Although, honestly speaking, he'd probably had the courage if his members were with him.
Wooyoung
We're getting coffees too :))
Yunho
-_-
Wooyoung
Mingi is curious :P
Yunho
= __ =''
You were taken aback by the assortment of pastries available at the counter, most of them were usually sold out by now. You felt your mouth water at the sight and you wanted to taste every dish. From the croissant's golden hue, to the strawberry tart's vibrant red color, to the noisette's lovely swirls of chocolate.
However, the lone blueberry muffin on the side was calling for your attention.
You contemplated over the numerous options for a while before settling on the one and only muffin. You've been craving that blueberry flavor for some reason. Although a blueberry tart would have been a better option (which is sadly not available), the muffin will do the trick.
With a pair of tongs, you reached over the muffin, only to have your hand collide with another one. Chills ran down your spine as you felt the shock of electricity against your skin.
Your eyes met the prettiest eyes you've seen in a while. "Sorry. I didn't notice you're reaching for it too." You apologized.
You felt small under his gaze. He's too handsome to be standing near me. Am I even allowed to breathe the same air as this man?
"You can take it, it's fine." He smiled. You swore you could melt at this moment.
You took the blueberry muffin. Overcoming the feeling of how you felt bad that he wants it too.
The door chimes ring and a few voices from inside the quiet cafe can be heard as you both choose a second pastry. The handsome guy tensed next to you and let out a heavy sigh.
"Yunho-yah~"
So, his name is Yunho. His face suits that name so much. It's like an instant name you'd hear, and you would know that he'll be handsome already.
While you push forward to the barista to order your drink, you watch from your peripheral how Yunho gets mobbed by his friends. "Who are you with?" and "You've been here for an hour and you're just eating now?" are some of the jokes they were making, but Yunho shut them all up.
"Ma'am?" Your cheeks flushed, watching the barista wave his hands in front of your face. "May I have your drink?"
"Right. Uhm, I'll take an iced coffee, please. Two shots of espresso." That was what you needed. You need to boost your energy level and your focus. And an iced coffee might just help you with that.
You settled back into your seat after paying for your order. Glancing around, you realize that you have a full view of Yunho, sitting beside his friend; the one that keeps teasing him earlier.
You refrained yourself from grinning. It's amusing to see how shorter the other guy is compared to him, but Yunho is the one that's getting made fun of. You can tell that the other guys are joining in on the fun even though they have their backs to you.
Yunho continued rolling his eyes and shaking his head, particularly when he was being nudged.
You admire his patience. Could never be me. You thought.
Tumblr media
Ever since that day, your encounters with Yunho have been frequent. You also noticed yourself having a habit of admiring him from afar. Most of the time, Yunho would be there before you.
And the rare occasions that you'll come before him, you'd see him still head in the same corner and the same seat. Pen in hand, notebook on the table.
"You're going home already?" Your friend asked while you were stuffing your bag with everything.
"Not really, but I need to finish my research." You mentioned.
It's Friday, the last day of finals for spring semester, has just concluded. You know that your friend will ask you to party and celebrate tonight, but you wanted to complete your research on Contemporary Art by Sunday. It was the last thing you need to pass before you can truly enjoy the summer break.
She slumped her shoulders and pouted. "You're no fun." A smile slipped through her lips. "Is it a guy? You met someone in the café, haven't you?"
You snickered. "Right. Magical coffee shop, blah blah blah. Nope! I just love their pastries."
Your friend hummed, teasingly. Her eyes shooting lasers at you. "He's probably handsome."
"Wh-"
"FIneeeeeee. If you can't go, I won't force you. But don't forget to introduce him to me." She winked, grabbing her bag then giving you a kiss on the cheek. "I think I might know who he is." She bumped her hips to yours.
You staggered back to your table, eyes squinted. She did a couple of dance steps that you don't recognize at all.
"It's something to do with spice and chilli peppers." She rolled her eyes, then laughed, before leaving you alone in the room.
"Whatever." You chuckled.
Cupid's Coffee Station
You tilted your head, blinking at the new LED outdoor sign of the cafe. It was blinking red and pink.
To be fair, there was never a day it wasn't lit, but it used to be just a simple white LED light. This time around, the colored LED confused you.
The chimes tinkled when you walked in. You were even more perplexed when you saw how empty the cafe was. All your favorite pastries lined the counter, not even one missing.
Wait, isn't it Friday? Shouldn't there be more people here? You shake your head.
It's probably one of those days where sales are slow...  or is it? I don't know!
You pinched yourself back to reality and placed your bag on your seat. Same old routine; books on the table, sketch pad, laptop, and your collection of pens that only one is used for the whole year.
After a few minutes of writing down your thoughts about the painting you have chosen for your research. You started craving caffeine.
Iced coffee.
Yep, that's what you've decided to get again.
"Hello! Welcome to Cupid's Coffee Station!" You were caught off by the new barista. This time, the barista is a middle-aged man and has a bright smile on his face.
Where's the other guy?
"Sorry, something came up for my nephew so this old man—" pointing at himself, "—has to step in again in his own café."
Oh, he's the owner. Silly me.
You gave him a smile in return. "I'd like an iced coffee, please."
"Two shots of espresso." You both said at the same time.
Okay? What?—
"I apologize once again. I also like iced coffee with two shots of espresso."
You bit the inside of your cheek, stopping yourself from questioning the owner. As he makes your drink, you decide to grab a plate and a pair of tongs. That was weird, really.
You couldn't even count on your head how many times you shook your head today. It feels like there's so many things happening all at once. You just brushed off the strange sensation on your shoulders.
Finally! A blueberry tart. You've been waiting for it for the past few days. For some reason, the tart at school doesn't satisfy your cravings.
"I'll also take this." You paid for your order and made your way back to your area.
You turned back to face the man after placing your orders on the table. His hands were cleaning and wiping the table. The coffee thing is probably just a coincidence and nothing to overthink about.
Honestly speaking, there's probably a million people out there who also like iced coffee with two shots of espresso.
It's not a big deal, Y/N. Chill.
Work. Yunho has been working for a total of thirteen hours. The joy he felt was unexplainable when Hongjoong called it a day. He threw his head back, stretching and relaxing his muscles.
Once his bag is packed and ready, Yunho excused himself and told his members that he'll be at the café.
"Well, you can just call manager-hyung to pick you up later." Yeosang said, yawning in the process. The members who were looking at him followed suit. "I'm tired as hell."
"I'm heading home, too. I wanna sleep so baddd~" Wooyoung fussed, hugging San, who was sitting beside him on the floor.
"Make sure to call—" Mingi was cut off when the door closed behind Yunho. He looked at Hongjoong, expecting him to be just as upset as he is. "Hyung! Did you see that?"
All he got was a few laughter from his friends and a pat on the back from Seonghwa and San. "That asshole." Mingi laughed anyway.
Red, pink, white, red, pink, white, red, pink,...
Has this LED light always been colored? Yunho thought. That's unusual.
Yunho was greeted by the sweet and savory scent of the pastries. He was amazed how many are lining the counters.
Unfortunately, he can feel his body slumping from tiredness. So, anything pastry is not on his list today. He's just here to get a boost from caffeine.
"Hello! Welcome to Cupid's Coffee Station!" A man greeted him.
Yunho's brow raised, looking behind the man and trying to locate the regular barista that serves him. "Nephew's out today, bud. What can I get for you?"
Yunho thought of the many options that he wanted. "One red eye, please."
"Great choice! It's been a long day, huh?" The man conversed.
"Today is extra stressful." Yunho smiled, politely.
"It probably is." The man replied, "Thank God, the cafe's empty today. You need that space and rest."
Yunho surveyed the area. This cafe has never seemed so empty to him. Considering that it's Friday, there should be a ton of people enjoying their last day of work and students hanging out.
While Yunho was happy to be able to unwind in his favorite place, he was also sympathetic to the owner. Low sales only occur occasionally, but it most likely hurts small businesses big time.
"Here's your drink."
Yunho offered his card to pay. The man swiped it quickly and handed it back.
"Enjoy your coffee and stay."
Yunho bowed. "Thank you."
Yunho was striding towards his regular spot when he noticed a table marker placed on the table. Table reserved.
He looked around. Reserved? When the café's empty??
Yunho chose the next nearest table but it's also marked as reserved.
You watched Yunho pace back and forth while holding his wooden tray. Brows raised, you try to peak why he's not sitting down. You saw that every table that was vacant was marked as reserved.
Will there be a special occasion to be held here today?
After minutes of contemplating, you built up your courage to walk up to Yunho.
Your steps were extra silent walking towards the very confused man. He was so tall compared to you. So much taller. With light taps on his arms, you greeted him. His back turned, looking even more baffled than ever. Yunho's eyes widened at the sight of you.
You muster up a smile, "Hi. Uhm... I— Well, you see... I was—"
Yunho observed your stuttering speech. Your cheeks flushed and your eyes refused to meet his gaze. His brain was too cloudy to listen to what you were saying. It was like everything was silent and all he could see was you, standing in front of him with moving lips. His mind is blurred, the words you were speaking were not being processed in his head.
"If that's okay with you." You said.
Yunho blinked, "Sorry? I didn't hear what you said.” He cleared his throat, another silent sorry slipping through his lips.
"You can sit with me. It seems like my table's the only one available right now. Everything seems to be reserved..." You trailed. The both of you looked around and agreed with each other silently.
"Uh yeah. Sure. Thank you so much." Yunho smiled. “I really appreciate it.”
Despite every table being reserved, no one else came in. You were silently hoping for at least one customer to arrive to ease your nervousness around Yunho.
You and him sat there in silence; with him occasionally sipping on his drink and scrolling through his phone. While you, on the other hand, tried your best to conceal most of your face on your laptop’s screen.
Every now and then, you would draw something on your sketchbook and analyze your own techniques, before returning to typing absentmindedly for your paperwork.
You can feel Yunho’s stare sometimes. You’ve seen how he fidgets, mouth twitching as if he wants to talk to you.
Time passed by quickly, yet slowly at the same time. At one point, Yunho asked you if you were an art student. You shyly replied, yes, and from that, the conversation flowed naturally.
"I'm really bad at drawing." Yunho grimaced.
"Oh come on! You can't be that bad!" You assured, pushing the sketchbook further to his side.
A sigh escaped Yunho's lips, but the corner of his lips turned when he gently grabbed the pencil from your fingertips. "If you say so."
You could see Yunho drew a circle, then curves surrounding the initial shape he made. He then drew a straight line down, followed by extremely snaky leaves.
You couldn't help but laugh when he added glow and stars around the flower. "You know, you could've just drawn butterflies. That would make more sense."
Yunho shook his head. "Nope, this is a glowing flower."
"See! You can draw!"
"Fortunately, I do believe that you haven't seen my worst drawings." Yunho dropped the pencil, and picked up his phone. After a mere second, his phone screen was on your face.
You put your hand to your mouth to stop the laughter before it could escape. "You drew that?" You asked in disbelief.
Let's just say that it was the most interesting drawing of a giraffe you have ever seen.
Tumblr media
"Are you heading home?" Yunho asked, helping you with the scattered colored pencils on the table.
"Yeah, I'll be taking a bus." The both of you didn't notice the time. It's running almost 9 in the evening before you even know it.
Yunho looked worried, but you muffle out a laugh. "It's fine, Yunho. I live quite near anyway. Just thirty minutes away." You explained. "Plus, you said you have a schedule tomorrow. If I remember correctly, Mingi said the call time is 6 AM." You teased.
He had told you about his group, most especially his best friend, Song Mingi.
"I can drop you off?" It was like Yunho was asking himself more than you.
A large black car pulled up and parked directly in front of the large glass front door before you had a chance to decline.
The owner of the cafe appeared unexpectedly next to you and Yunho, making you both flinch in his presence.
"I hope you enjoyed your stay!" He greeted with the biggest smile on his face.
You had to beam back at him because of his contagious smile. Even though he was intimidating when you first arrived, you can now sense his sincerity and kindness.
Not to add, he asked your table if you needed anything else at all, and your table partner requested a refill for his red eye, which resulted in you and Yunho having more conversation to discuss and random things to tease each other about.
"I hope to see you together again here in Cupid's Coffee Station."
The both of you thanked him. The owner opened the door and bid you safe travel.
Like on queue, the car window rolled down when Yunho stepped out of the coffee shop. You, anxiously playing with your hands, next to him.
Yunho walked towards the rolled down window. "Hyungnim~"
There was a conversation between Yunho and the driver. It was slightly inaudible. However, you can overhear him saying that he needs to drop you off at your house.
"It's late in the evening. I can't just let Y/N go and take a bus."
Short silence... A couple more talking... then Yunho whispered a celebratory 'Yes!'
"Let's go Y/N. We'll take you home." Yunho opened the car door and offered his hand.
Take it! And so you did. For some reason, that voice in your head doesn't even sound like you. It was like a compelling voice that you couldn't even say no to.
You had expected Yunho to sit next to the driver but he didn't. As you put the pieces together, you realized that the driver might also be his manager. Yunho told you a lot about his idol life during the twenty questions game you both had.
"Thank you, Hyung. I know we might get in trouble for this, but really, thank you." Yunho talked while closing the car door and getting comfortable next to you.
"We'll be fine." The manager said, though you can hear the faint worry in his voice. "Uh, Y/N, right? Yunho can't get out of the car when we arrive at your house. Please use the door on your side later."
You nodded. "No problem. Thank you so much."
"Hyung, she knows that."
"Just making things clear, Yunho."
You've told the manager your address afterwards.
The car moved, now on its way to the destination. Looking back at the cafe, you watched the lights inside turned off one by one. Lips parting at the sight of the LED outdoor sign blinking red, pink, then it flickered, completely stopping at white.
Yunho noticed your expression. "Something wrong?"
"The LED light!" You pointed, but when Yunho turned around, the car rounded a corner.
"Why— What happened?"
What was that? Shaking your head, "Nothing. It's probably just my mind playing tricks."

random thought #4: no romance
I appreciate that the author doesn't add a romantic subplot for her characters just because they're of the opposite sex.
Like Cage and Taylor who, if this is a tv show, would've immediately been tagged as a couple even if they're just good friends. They're the best of friends who really care deeply for each other and right from the start, I never saw their bond as a romantic one. It's special since they understand each other so well because of their burdens and similar sense of humor. Like imagine how devastated Cage must've been in TBoaH. It must've been like losing a part of herself, her other half.
Yeah, I can see the idea that they can be a couple but it's so nice to see that the author just focuses on their friendship throughout the first part of TCF instead.
Then there's that time when Cale had Rosalyn and Choi Han help out Lock.
Cale clapped once, before pointing at Choi Han and Rosalyn.
“That is why we will pretend that you are the mother and father, or, if you do not like that scenario, then you shall be the older brother and older sister. You two will need to figure out how to protect him.”
- Chapter 30: You
I love the fact that Cale just gives them options to choose from so they can feel comfortable with each other. Especially since he knows they literally just met a few days ago. I also think that they just give off sibling vibes. Like Rosalyn and Choi Han never gave off anything else but friendship or family vibes and it's just so nice to see it happen.
I don't hate romance, okay? I actually love them. That is, when I look for that specific genre. If I'm not looking for it and it's there, I usually feel annoyed. Sometimes, it's not tagged but it still happens in the story.
I just find it exhausting at times when novels or tv shows push for romance when there's no need or reason for it. Especially the love at first sight trope. That one just aggravates me.
Like they can explore how close two characters are without putting a romantic context to it. In fact, the "romance" that we get in TCF are mostly from Deruth and Violan and from Deruth and Jour. It can't be said it's romance either since the focus on them is about the whole family instead. Other characters never show any sign of being in love with someone either.
And I also love the fact that Cale, the main character, doesn't have a romantic relationship throughout the whole first book. He has no time for one since he's in the middle of a war, he's focused on protecting his friends and family, and he's busy fighting some crazy bastards. He never looked at another person and thought he was in love.
If Yoo Ryeo Han ever adds romance later on, ✨I still hope she doesn't✨, it's easier to accept since I know these characters are close to each other. They've been together since the beginning. They bonded and experienced a lot of good and bad things together. Although it'll be weird to me...
[On an unrelated note: If this whole post looks weird, it's because I haven't slept yet]

Elrond x teen!reader - safe with us
Tumblr media
Hiii! I haven't been active in so longgg it's painful to think about BUTTT I'm here with like some many ideas for requests!!! Could you maybe write an parental elrond x human child (if it's fem I would appreciate it!) in WICH reader was traveling with their fam but got attacked by orcs or sumting and she was told to run, she either a) stumbled upon a patrol of Rivendell or b) something else that led her to Rivendell and can we see soft elrond with her, better yet soft ELVES with her AWWWWWWWWWWW how CUTEEE (ignoring the whole slaughter part ofc) Like she's basically adopted by all the elves of Rivendell. - @hai-kbai 💜
You had been running for god knows how long, your legs hurt, and you were tired, and hurting from the numerous falls you had taken.
But you felt like you couldn’t stop running, you were scared if you stopped then they would find you, that they would get you as well.
So you kept going, right up until you ran into a small group of what appeared to be maybe guards or warriors.
They all looked at you and you screamed, scrambling to hide between some rocks that you could only just fit between.
You heard some quiet talking, and slowly somebody came over.
“Please do not be scared, we mean you no harm. Are you lost?”
You said nothing, and the elf nodded slightly, rummaging through his bag before holding something out to you.
“Hungry perhaps? it’s good. One small bite will fill you.”
You refused to take the food and he sighed, putting it away as he began to talk to him comrades.
While they were talking, you stayed hidden up until the point you heard a noise that sounded a lot like orcs.
Rushing out from your hiding spot, you ran to the elf and stood in front of him, hiding yourself in the group.
“We must go.”
They all got on their horses and the one you had hid behind helped you on to his horses before climbing on and rushing away.
You didn’t want to go with them, but between orcs and elves, they were the safest option.
They had horses and would be faster.
Exhaustion soon took over you, and you fell asleep.
Of course the elf behind you knew you were asleep, but he made no motion to wake you up, neither did the others.
They just carried on their journey back to Rivendell where the sounds of movement made you wake up.
You snapped your head up and looked around, jumping down from the horse and backing away in fear.
“You appear to have brought a guest.”
“We found her alone and scared.” The man replied.
The other elf nodded.
You carefully studied him, he had a friendly face, with a small smile as he looked at you, and he was wearing the most elegant clothes you had ever seen.
“I am Lord Elrond, of Rivendell. Do you have a name?”
You said nothing.
“You’re scared, I understand. But you needn’t be afraid, we mean you no harm, we wish to help you if you will let us.”
You glanced around, and you turned back to him.
“How about a bath, some food and a clean change of clothing?”
You slowly nodded your head.
So they got everything ready for you, and you bathed in peace, only letting out a small hiss as hot water touched the scratched and cuts in your skin.
When you were done you changed into the elegant Elyan clothing you were given, and began to wonder around.
Bare feet padding along the floor, you looked into other rooms, poking and looking at things as you passed.
“Hello, Lord Elrond has requested you to come have something to eat.”
You turned to face the new elf.
He smiled at you, bowing his head a little.
“I’m Lindir.”
He stood up.
“Will you come?”
You nodded and followed him to a grand dining hall, and he showed you a seat next to Elrond and you looked at the food in front of you.
“Whatever you want to eat, you can.”
You looked at him then back to the food, and you glanced at his plate as he ate his dinner.
He saw you looked and smiled to himself, taking your plate, he replaced it with his own, and set your plate in front of him.
You began to pick at the food he was eating, knowing that if he was eating it then it was fine for you to eat.
Elrond smiled softly at you.
“Do you mind if I have a look at your arm after? That looks rather deep and painful.”
You looked at your arm.
“What happened to it?” He asked.
“I fell…”
He nodded his head.
“I see, well, we all fall sometimes. It is nothing we can’t fix.”
Elrond could tell you had been through a lot, so he never pushed you into telling him what had happened.
They simply made you feel at home, with your own room, food you liked, they had even began to teach you their language and games.
Everybody loved you.
“Be care when you go.” Elrond said.
“I’ll be okay!”
You swatted his hands away and he smiled at you.
“I know, I just worry the young elves forget you are not as strong as they are.”
“I’m strong!” You huffed.
He sighed a little, nodding his head.
“I know, just go have fun. And be safe.”
You smiled at him.
“Thank you.”
With that you ran off, waving to everybody you had passed.
They all knew you by name now, the human who lived with elves.
They loved you, and you were part of Rivendell.
You brought them joy and adventures and just the right amount of mischief to make any boring day a little better.
You were still healing over whatever had happened to your family and Elrond could see that in the nights you didn’t sleep, or the days you wouldn’t talk.
But he hoped maybe you could open yourself to Rivendell as your home and realise you never had to leave

The Golden Child Part IV
SAGAU & Impostor AU where the reader is the child of the actual creator.
Warnings: Blood, crying blood, mention of abduction and terrorism.
If you haven't read part 3 yet, you can find it here.
Please understand that I won't add new people to the taglist as it has become way too large now. I'm sorry if this causes any inconvenience.
Tumblr media
The acting Grand Sage was having a very, very busy week.
With his resignation coming soon, he wanted to finish every document that needed his immediate attention; somehow, his shift was never enough to finish everything on time.
Piles of documents that never seemed to end. Countless people needed his help that went from the most mundane things to twisted crimes that needed the immediate intervention from the Matra. In any case, once he started his working hours, there was no time to waste.
So, that was why the presence of the man in front of him managed to irk him greatly. There was enough time to be a nuisance at home, why did Kaveh feel the need to come bother him at work?
"But I'm telling you!" The blonde exclaimed. "There's definitely something weird about it!"
He sighed. "Well then, did it look like that child was being held against their will?"
"Well, no, but—"
"Then there's nothing I can do. The most I can offer is to send a Matra to investigate and/or interrogate that Lord. For all you know, they could simply be an Eremite's child."
Kaveh wanted to tell him that no, that wasn't the case, but in reality he didn't know that. There was just a feeling, a strange sensation that made him think that there must be something more about them. Kidnapped, an Eremite's child, the illegitimate Lord's child... No option sat well with him.
If Alhaitham saw that child, would he share Kaveh's thoughts?
Fuck it. If Alhaitham didn't want to help him, then he would investigate this matter himself.
Just as he was about to curse his roommate and storm away, the grand doors opened with a loud bang. Before seeing who intruded like that, they first heard the loud gasps and whispers of the scholars outside his office.
"Alhaitham!" The voice of a particular forest watcher resonated around the room. Both him and Kaveh were taken aback at the sight of the newcomers. They were bloody, beaten up, with bandages loosely covering certain areas of their bodies as if they only did it to stop the bleeding and not for properly treating the wounds. Collei was supporting both her weight and Tighnari's, as she was helping him stand and walk. "We need your help!"
The fact that Tighnari didn't refer to him as 'acting Grand Sage' denoted alarming urgency. He quickly rose from his seat and called for immediate medical help. Kaveh ran to his friend's side, gently removing him from Collei and letting him use his own body as support, earning a thankful glance from the girl. The wounds in his body started to bleed again, soaking the bandages and some of Kaveh's clothes in the process.
"What happened to you?!" The blonde asked in a panic.
Collei was still taking deep breaths, exhausted for having to carry her mentor all the way to Sumeru City. "The Ville! We were attacked!"
Alhaitham opened his eyes all the way thanks to his surprise. How come the Gandharva Ville had been attacked and he was only finding out now? By the look of the injuries, he guessed it must've happened yesterday.
"Wow, calm down! Breathe first." Kaveh said. "Explain what happened."
As the medic of the Akademiya arrived and started to treat Tighnari, Collei composed herself and started to explain everything from the beginning.
She told them about the child in the forest that was attacked by Eremites, with their family presumably dead by the Eremite's hands. How Tighnari heard them and immediately appeared to help the kid, safely escorting them to the Gandharva Ville so they could decide what to do next. She also explained how those mercenaries came back for revenge, attacking their Ville and abducting the child once every fighter was down.
Her words shocked the blonde. He looked at his roommate, half in disbelief that his own suspicions turned out to be true.
"You say they took them? Grabbed them and disappeared into the forest?"
"Yes, yes... I was knocked out and they managed to get to them...!" Collei cried. "You have to do something! Those Eremites killed their family and now have kidnapped them!"
The grand doors opened once again, and Tighnari and Kaveh both breathed a sigh of relief at the figure standing in the doorway.
The general Mahamatra had arrived.
"I heard there was a commotion here." Cyno spoke. Tighnari greeted him by saying his name, which made the newcomer turn his attention to him. When he laid his eyes upon the wounded fox hybrid and saw how beaten up he was, his blood boiled with deep rage. "What happened?"
Sensing danger from the short man, Alhaitham quickly composed himself and started to explain the situation. This didn't seem to help Cyno calm down. In fact, every word he spoke only served to fuel his anger.
"We must do something then. That child must be in danger." The general said. "We must rescue them. I'll also arrange for the other matras to track down and hunt those Eremites that raided the Ville."
Tighnari nodded. "Let's go."
"YOU won't go. The 'we' I was talking about is composed of Alhaitham, the Matra and I."
"What?!" Kaveh, Tighnari and Collei cried in unison.
"Regarding the seriousness of the situation, it's only natural that this matter is solved within members of the Matra and Akademiya." Alhaitham explained. "It could be extended to inhabitants of the Gandharva Ville, but the only thing they need now is a good doctor and a lot of rest."
"No way!" Tighnari shouted. "I have to get them back! I have to, I have to..."
His voice faded into intelligible mumbles, repeating again and again the same words. This was the first time Cyno had seen his best friend like this. What could have happened to make him act this way? Those damned Eremites... He would make sure they paid for what they've done.
Alhaitham and the grand general were quick to exit the office and start gathering people to accompany them to Alcazarzaray.
This matter had to be settled right now.
One of the people present also made his way to the exit, only that she did in the complete opposite way.
.
You were feeling very, very warm.
It was as if a giant marshmallow was enveloping you, gently offering a comfortable space to rest while you dozed off with a sense of security.
Suddenly, hand rested on your head, carefully caressing your hair in a loving manner. You opened your eyes, only to find a silhouette cradling you and watching you with hearts on their eyes.
"Keep sleeping, stardust." A soothing voice came out of their lips. "Once you wake, I won't get to hold you like this again."
The sadness in their tone made your heart ache. You gently raised your hand and rested it on their cheek, smiling when they wore a surprised expression.
"Tata..." You whispered. "Papa said they took you..."
You tried to keep smiling, you were seeing your parent again! But the thought of everything that happened only fueled the pain in your chest, making you let a sob out before starting to fully crying.
Your parent stopped the caressing to instead hug you tightly. Whispered sweet words in your ear. "You're too young for everything's that happening. How I wish I could still be hugging you in reality, and not just in this dream."
So this was a dream. Well, it didn't matter. This was the place your parent was, where you could touch them once again.
"Why did they do it...?" You could only ask between sobs.
You could hear your tata let a sigh. Both them and your father had tried to explain everything to you, at least the best they could to a little child. But maybe all you needed right now was the truth.
"I'm the one who created this world." They spoke. With a wave of their hand, something akin to stardust was born from it. It made you giggle a little. "And as such, I also wanted to live here as a mortal like everyone. Like your father, like you."
You looked into their eyes and saw all the love they had for you.
"I descended in a new body, with no powers and no memory. But the mortals and gods... Over time, they became obsessed with the idea of me. Of a being of pure love, power, and divinity. Being in a mortal body, I possessed none of that, so it was only natural that they thought I was an impostor trying to deceive them."
With each word, their tone became more and more solemn. "They... killed my body, so I now return to be a deity unapproachable by any of them. Any, except for you."
They kissed your nose gently.
"You are my child, my flesh and blood, and though I had a mortal body when you were conceived, my divinity still flows in you."
Their fingers brushed the cut in your arm, the one you got when you protected your father back in the Chasm. You averted your eyes from it. It only served to remind you what you lost that day.
"I want nothing more than destroy this world and the people in it for everything they've done to their own creator. But..."
Strangely enough, those words filled with hatred did not worry you in the slightest. Was it because it was your parent who said them? "But...?" You trailed on.
"But you and him still live here. And I do not wish for you both to feel anything remotely close to what I've experienced."
The hug enveloping you became a little tighter, as if your tata was trying to heal all their pain by embracing you.
It was a silent promise. One that said that as long as you both were alive, then the world would remain untouched.
"I miss you." You whispered, hiding your face in their chest.
"I miss you too, stardust. I hope you both live your life to the fullest before finally being reunited again. I love you."
You felt a warm and gentle kiss on your forehead and raised your head to see your parent one last time only to find a pillow resting above you, right where your tata had been. You let a sad sigh at the sight of an unknown bedroom and strange bed.
So, it really was just a dream. But it felt so real... you could still feel the tenderness of their touch and the tingle their lips left on your skin. How you missed your family...
Looking at the window in front of the bed, you noticed that the sun was already starting to set. It seemed that you fell asleep crying in your aunt's arms, how embarrassing. But to sleep all day? It really showed how your situation was exhausting your little body.
There was a small table at your right side with a plate of food on it. There was a note attached to it, with your name written on the upside. You took it and tried to read it, but the handwriting was very different from your parent's. You recognized some letters, but the words were pretty confusing.
Still, even if you couldn't read it, it left a warm feeling in your chest knowing that Dori cared enough to leave you some food and a little note for the moment you woke up.
With the piece of paper in your hand, you rushed to your backpack and took the stuffed animal from the inside, putting both items on the bed. They were your treasures now.
If only you had something from your father as well...
Opting to occupy your mind to not get sad, you tried to approach the table with the snack before a loud bang resonated around the entire palace. It seemed that someone was knocking on the front door, really hard.
As you tried to peek outside the room to see what was going on, you were surprised when Dori quickly came in and pushed you inside, closing the door behind her.
"Auntie? What's happening?" You asked with a slight tremble on your voice. Had trouble come again? Could those people from Liyue have finally found you?
"Ah, that? It's nothing. Probably the Matra trying to arrest me again for 'alleged' scams." She laugh, clearly unbothered by the whole situation. "What do you have there?"
You looked where she was pointing, right at your stuffed animal. "Oh! That's my favorite plush. Tata made it for me for my last birthday."
She smiled and picked it up in her hands. "Look at this cute thing! Handmade goods tend to sell pretty well."
Dori put the plush back where it was and turned to face you.
"Well, I see that you still haven't eaten. What do you say we have dinner together? The chef prepares the best dishes in all Teyvat!"
You giggled. "Okay!"
"Sweet! Then we—"
She stopped in the middle of the sentence as the sound of the main doors opening filled the mansion. This set her right on edge, as the butler had strict orders to not open the door to anybody, not even for the Matra or Grand Sage himself. She pressed herself to the door of the room to hear what was happening in the main hall.
"Aunt Dori?" You were confused by the sudden change of demeanor. You grabbed the stuffed animal and held it to your chest, trying to get some sense of comfort.
"Shh." She motioned for you to remain silent, so you did. Voices could be heard, and even the distressed wails of the butler resonated around the halls. Whatever was happening, it was undoubtedly bad.
Dori looked at you, which made you startle a little. "Did something happen back with the Eremites?" She asked.
"Um, well..." You trailed off, nervous. "Back in the forest, a boy from a place called Gandharva Ville found me first. He brought me back with him, and those mercenaries had to attack the city because of that misunderstanding."
She pushed her head back as the voices got louder, undoubtedly investigating the mansion in the search of something. Someone.
"Fuck, those idiots didn't even bother to tell me anything. No wonder even the Grand Sage is here." The woman mumbled under her breath. She sighed and looked back at you. "Change of plans. We have to hide, or else I'll be imprisoned for terrorism and kidnapping. Those are things I don't plan to add to my record. "
Oh no, was this your fault? Was now your aunt in trouble because you didn't go with the Eremites right away? First, the nice people in the Ville were attacked, and now Dori was going to be blamed for it.
"Quick! Let's go through the secret passage!"
She locked the door behind her and rushed to the bed, pushing it to separate the furniture from the wall. You quickly gathered the plush and the letter and put them in the backpack before helping Dori move the bed. There was a different color right where the headboard rested, and the merchant wasted no time in tearing the wallpaper to reveal a small door beneath.
The Matra was getting closer, so Dori was in a hurry to get you both out of the house. She motioned for you to go first, so you crossed the small passage while she stayed behind temporarily to move back the bed to where it was.
You found yourself back at the gardens, just at the back of the manor away from the people that were surrounding the perimeter. Nobody seemed to have spotted you yet, so you waited for Dori to crawl from the secret passage before running away.
"Stay low. These guys are the real deal here." She whispered before taking your hand in hers and guiding you through the less visible parts of the lot.
You were almost at the entrance of the forest when a member of the Matra spotted you two and quickly gave the signal to his associates.
"There! They're trying to escape using the southern exit!"
It wasn't long before the rest of the Matra started to mobilize in your direction. Dori opted to stop hiding and run as fast as you could, as a last attempt to lose the officials.
You almost managed to reach the edge of the forest when the ground rose in front of you, forming a pillar made of dirt and stones that blocked the path ahead.
"Stop! Lord Sangemah Bay, you are under arrest!"
Turning around, a member of the Matra with a Geo vision was the culprit of your dead end. He was concentrating on maintaining the pillar as the General Mahamatra made his way towards you. Dori put you behind her, which didn't really help to cover you as your heights were not so far away.
"Lord Sangemah Bay." Greeted Cyno, though his voice was filled with nothing but disdain. "I knew you were a scammer, but I'd have never thought of you a terrorist. Have anything to say about this?"
She furrowed her brows but otherwise remained silent. So, he instead looked at you.
"So this is the kid that made you even attack Gandharva Ville to capture. Who is this? Why are you keeping them?"
You wanted to answer him, but the hold Dori had on your hand suddenly felt tighter as if she was silently telling you to keep quiet. Cyno sighed, knowing that he would not get anything out of the pair.
"I see how it is. You both will have to come with the Matra then."
The breeze picked up strongly.
A powerful burst of wind almost knocked Cyno off his feet; he even had to summon his polearm and nail it to the ground to remain in his place. Dirt and leaves started floating from everywhere, and you had to cover your eyes to avoid hurting them.
Only when everything calmed down you ventured to open them once again. You were now facing the back of a small man, with black and green hair and light green tattoos in the visible skin in his arms.
You had a very, very bad feeling about this guy; for the clothing he bore told everyone present that he was foreign to their nation.
"I'm afraid I can't allow to take this child with you."
The stranged summoned his own weapon; a jade colored polearm materialized in his hand as he took a more defensive stance.
"I know you." Cyno spoke. He regained his balance and also held his spear in his hands. "Liyue seems to be pretty far away from here, don't you think?"
Liyue.
This man was here to take you back. Because you were your parent's child, wasn't it? They wanted the child born from the divinity they were obsessed with.
Oh no, no, no, no...
You took one step backward but instantly froze when the boy turned his head to look at you the moment your foot touched the ground. His golden eyes bore right into yours, as if he was nothing more than a predator waiting for the best chance to strike.
However, he promptly returned his attention to the general when he saw that you were no longer moving.
"Heed my words, for this is the only warning I'll offer, mortal. Forget everything about this child, for they are now under the eternal custody of Liyue and the Geo Archon."
Cyno frowned. He still didn't understand the situation that well, but something about you was so special that even the Rex Lapis himself was sending his own acolytes to fetch them. Now, the attack on the Ville made more sense.
He didn't know who you could possibly be, but from the looks of it, you were terrified at the sight of the adeptus. Was this another kidnapping? For a god to step so low...
If anything, he only knew that you didn't want to go with him. So, you should stay here. Right where the Matra could protect you.
He took one step in the adeptus' direction, but the same strong wind from before returned and threatened to send him flying. He could only discern a green stream quickly making his way to where you were standing before vanishing, with the wind closely behind.
When he was able to get the dirt out of his eyes, only the sight of his fellow matra remained. Xiao was gone; you were too. He didn't see the Lord either, but he stopped paying them attention early on. Maybe they took this chance to escape the Matra and avoid any questioning.
His coworkers were quick to offer a hand; two of them helped him stand while the rest immediately started a search party for both Dori and the missing child.
Liyue, huh?
He had to report this to the acting Grand Sage.
There is no justice in letting a handful of people have his way with a kid. He would rescue them, even if he had to cross the whole land to get there.
.
"Isn't the weather beautiful today?"
The Fatui soldier didn't voice her answer, only nodded to maintain her silence. She had her head hanging low, for she was paying respect to the man in front of her.
You had to be always careful when in the presence of Dottore, after all.
"A little bird told me something funny today." His deep tone made chills run down her spine. His silhouette in front of the window gave an ominous feeling, the weather displaying a colorful battle of blue, purple, and yellow thanks to the storm outside. "It appears that the Creator themself descended a few years ago!"
"H-huh?!" She could not help the gasp of surprise that left her mouth but quickly returned to her position of submission when the mad man turned to see her.
Instead of getting angry, he smiled creepily. "Just as you hear. Our Divine Grace finally returned to this world, only that they did in a mortal body. That impostor that every soul on Teyvat made their goal to catch? It turned out to be the real and mighty Overlord!"
The Fatui raised her head in disbelief, watching him as he laughed like a maniac.
"But Liyue was the lucky winner; they managed to grab them and display their headless body for every habitant to see!" He took one step closer to the glass, smiling every time lightning illuminated the scenery. "It's just now that the other nations are finding this out... Inazuma might've been the first, as the only thing covering the skies are the mournful thunder and lightning from the lady that holds their power. Ah, she truly must feel like her heart is being ripped out at these news!"
As if agreeing with him, the sky roared a few times.
"She can grieve all she wants. Morax could've been the executioner, but the rest of them also raised their weapons and didn't hesitate to hurt the Divine One even when they claimed innocence asked for mercy."
She didn't know what to say. Was this true? Their almighty god, their benevolent and loving one... Had already descended and was killed because people simply didn't believe it?
"This is going to be fun." Dottore hummed. "I almost can't wait for when the other archons discover what transpired. Will they unleash their fury and sorrow upon Liyue? Hehe, I sure hope this storm marks the beginning of the end."
He turned around and started to exit the room, but not before giving the soldier under him his last command.
"Wait for the next ship to Snezhnaya to deliver a letter. Inform the Tsaritsa that even though her efforts to reach our Divine One to aid them were hindered by the other archons, this time we can all protect the most precious gift they've left for us."
She looked at him quizzically but made no comment to refuse him.
"That's right." He laughed. "We'll take care of them while the rest of the world crumbles and destroys itself..."

I'm curious, and would love to hear people's thoughts on this.
Did anyone play a human? And did the people playing humans feel overall more satisfied with the game?
Amongst people critical of Veilguard, I guess I'm trying to pinpoint how much of the frustration ties in to what race choice you make.
I know for a fact based on posts I've seen that veteran fans who played as elves had a lot of valid critiques about the lack of a dalish/city elf split as well as a seeming lack of ability to confront Solas in any meaningful way about the multitude of actions he took that severely messed up many lives (God, he is a direct cause via his creation of the lyrium dagger in severing the titans from their dreams, therefore extinguishing an entire people).
But at least there are SOME dialogue choices for elves. The dwarves themselves get less of a chance to address the crimes committed against them than the elves do. And even Harding, whose story is rooted in anger over what happened, always ends up talking to Rook about believing in second chances even if you tell her to focus on her anger. I made a post earlier in my return to tumblr saying that Solas haters deserved better, especially after it was promised that this game would be for everyone and cover the ways in which an Inquisitor's relationship with him could be (generalizing here) good or bad.
Not only did the endings not deliver on that promise, arguably the group that has the biggest reason to at the very least chew him out and get out some of that justified anger at the titans having their dreams stolen and at the very most take him out for it if that fits with their ideal story is denied the chance.
And what about that cool as hell dwarven map we never return to?? I can't be the only one excited to go back who saved the exploration for later only to realize that was it.
And of course, the poor Qunari players, who probably thought "at last! A chance to explore and refine the lore we've gotten so far that absolutely needs to be fixe...oh. look. Face-covering seldom-speaking spawnable villains. Again. Great, a binary choice for Taash in which the Qun option is clearly shaded as more harmful to them than the alternative. Groundbreaking."
I haven't played as a human yet, and I know that race choice aside there's an abundance of issues to work through, but I'm so curious about how people who played a human felt/if it was easier to ignore some of what we lost or didn't get and enjoy the things that were done less poorly.
I'm fueled entirely by curiosity at this point and it's overriding my exhaustion as I prepare to go to sleep long enough to post this, so hopefully I don't look back tomorrow morning and go "wtf was I saying."
TLDR: full deep dives into the critiques of each of the three non-human Rooks are very worth doing and I've seen some great ones, but in a more general sense I'm curious how the human Rooks felt navigating the game.
(This is also, just in case it comes across that way, me trying to yuck anyone's yum. If you liked the game, I am happy for you! But if you didn't like it, I'm interested in discussing why not :) )

A/N - RAHHH OMFG IM ACTUALLY OBSESSED WITH THIS FIC, EEK IM SO PROUD OF MY SELF. Content warnings - Mentions of alcohol, Cursing Car girl! Lara Raj x Fem Reader PT 1 of 2
Suggestive
I hop out of Megan's car, seeing all the pretty guys and girls gathered around watching people doing donuts and other drift tricks.
“Do you know if Lara's here yet or no?” I yell at Megan over the exhaustion.
She shrugs and shakes her head no, “not sure” she gives me a questioning look “Why? You gonna give her a kiss?” she chuckles. I sigh and lean against her vintage Nissan S12. “watch it will you?” she slaps my shoulders “i just got a new paint job, im not letting your stupid ass ruin it” I snicker under my breath.
“Don't worry, Meiyok” I push her back, I look past Megan and see her. Lara, with her signature moon boots and leather biker jacket combo making her look devilishly good especially under the moon light and smoke from the tires. She's leaning against some random girl's hellcat, from what I can tell, Lara’s flirting with her. I observe from afar, I wish that could be me flirting back instead of cowering behind the blob of people occupying the space between us. There's a slight palpitation in my chest when she locks eyes with me through the crowd of car nerds looking under the hoods of peoples souped up cars, as if she could feel the jealous gaze on her skin. I stumble off through the crowd of baggy pants, tank tops, silver chains, and Type shi’, Finding some mystery drinks sitting on a foldable table. I sniff the cups, nose scrunched in disgust at the cheap smell of alcohol and down it in one go, Hoping to take the edge off. Lara finds her way past the frat boys, socal asians, and other car-meet goers.
“Hey” she grins “Haven't seen you at one of these for a while, where’d a pretty thing like you go?” Though as much as i wanna give into her, and so does my body with the way my knees buckle at the nickname, I don't feel like being a victim of her games tonight. She trapped me between the table and her gaze, nowhere left to run except into her arms or over the table of booze.
“Hellcats? That's your type now? Never thought you would be that desperate considering the fact you have lots of other great options out there.” I smirk into my second almost empty cup of liquid courage, leaving the first cup on the pavement.
“And where are these other options, honey?” She chuckles, “I mean basically everyone here is a copy of each other”
“I'm hurt you think i'm just like everyone else” I playfully grab my heart. Megan looks over ,gives me a look and mouths what looks like “it's not worth it.” or maybe a “go for it.” I'm not sure. Lara looks back at Megan and gives her a wave before turning back to me.
“How’ve you been? You seem pretty busy with megan. Are you guys going out or something?” She slyly says with a tint of a jealous vibe in her voice. She grips her drink at her own mention of Megan. Maybe I'm hallucinating.
“No no, Megans always gonna be a friend to me.” I shrug it off “Why? Are you interested in her?” I inquired about her previous words. “You never struck me as the type to be into her, but no judgement.” I mumble
“Something like that baby. Don't worry about that, Hm?” she grabs my chin to make me look her in her eyes. The slight sting of her cold rings against my warm face, Her caramel burgundy Iris’ meets mine as she strokes my cheek.
“Lara,” I pause, debating if this was the right time for me to pour my heart and soul to a girl who most likely doesn't reciprocate it.
“Yeah?” she tilts her head teasingly “spit it out, Honey. I don't have all night.” Her hand leaves my face as she touches her hair. I glance behind her looking at Megan, then look back at her. Was this worth the embarrassment?
“Nevermind it's not important” I pressed my lips together into a line, the uncomfortable amount of people crowding around now overwhelming my senses.“I gotta go lara,” I pushed past her lightly, our shoulders brushing.
“Wait” She grabs my wrist, “Don't go just yet, please?” She looks at me longingly, I give her an apologetic look.
“Sorry, ill text you later” Is all i can muster out without giving into her.
I walk over to Megan who's casually chatting to Sophia, A mutual friend of Lara and Megans, “Are you ready to go or are you gonna chat with soph for a bit longer?” I question her and I lean beside Megan's car to stabilise my weak knees.
“I was about to head out with Dani, I’ll see you guys around?” Sophia gives the two of us a nod and heads off to her car.
“How's Lara? You finally figured her out or no?” Megan begins her interrogation. “It's so painfully obvious that you both like each other, it pains my soul that you still haven't pulled up your britches m’lady and asked her out.” Megan sighs, resting her cheek on my shoulder as we people watch.
“You make it sound so easy, when it's literally lara. Like she's so awesome and cool with her fashion. I don't know if I wanna be her or if I wanna aggressively make out with her or something.” I sigh, resting my hands in my hair.
“Look, I'm gonna get sophia to set you up on a blind date.” She suddenly stands up and grabs my face “I'm sick and tired of you complaining that you don't have the balls to ask Lara out, So, to get over her, you're gonna go on this date and forget about Lara.” Megan proclaims loudly, making people nearby turn heads.
I sigh, “okay” i say defeatedly “I’ll do it under one condition,” “And that is…?” she drags out the “s”
“I get to borrow your bike” I look at her with the brightest puppy eyes I could muster up with the energy i had left.
“No, Y/N. That is my baby you know that” “Then i'm not going on this date” She considers it, I cross my fingers “Please megan, i promise i won't crash it”
“Fine, but if there is a single scratch on that bike, You're paying for it” Megan threatens me, Knowing the amount of money in my spendings account can't afford to pay for a pizza, let alone a sport bike repair. Megan's phone vibrates on the hood of the car, “perfect timing, sophia already found a date for you” She jumps excitedly “Do I get to know anything about her?” I try to take a glance at her phone screen.
“Ah ah ah” she shakes her finger in my face taunting me “it's a blind date for a reason, Are you free sunday?”
“I think so” I check my calendar, “I should probably go shopping right?”
“Yeah i think you only own like two dress shirts” Megan giggles, “Sophia is gonna book a moderately nice dinner spot for the two of you.”
While yes I'm ready to move on from these unrequited feelings for Lara, there's a part of me that wants to hold onto her and not let go. I tried to busy myself with hanging out with Megan and picking up clothes for the date on sunday.
“I never thought i would actually shop till i dropped, Meiyok.” I groan as I flop onto her bed, She cackles.
“Well I never thought you would actually willingly go shopping with me, so might as well take advantage of this moment.” She pushes me over and sits beside me. “You might wanna get dressed for your date, My bike keys are on my desk.” She drags me up by my arms.
“I don't know what to wear.” I sigh looking at the bags of clothes “there's too many options” I groan, already feeling the decision fatigue settling in.
“I gotta go, dude. I don't know what to tell you but you gotta figure it out.” She sighs before leaving the apartment. I groan before getting up and begin by taking a shower.
Next thing I know is that I am panicking, rushing out of Megan's apartment, fumbling her Yamaha bike keys as I rush to put on my helmet. I race down the streets of L.A to the restaurant, The nerves start to get to me as the realisation that i'm going on a date starts to set in as i walk into the restaurant. The Hostess asks me for my reservation and then proceeds to walk me to the table. My jaw becomes slack as I sit across from Lara, wearing a dark tank top and what seems like a leather skirt and leather jacket combo. damn it Megan. She looks absolutely divine, something that I would see in a dream but this is real life.
“Hey” she giggles “Tricked into a blind date, huh?”
“Yeah,” I nervously laughed as I adjusted in my seat, “I didn't think I would be in this position today but here we are.”
“And why is that? Are you hoping for someone else?” She looks mildly hurt at my words which makes me wanna melt into a puddle of goop and cry.
“Something like that i guess, i planned on going on this date to get over my feelings for you.” My voice decrescendos over the course of my sentence, gradually getting quieter. “I mean i didn't think you would be into me, considering that you are, well, Lara Raj.” I feel my cheeks grow a deep raspberry colour, I fidget with my rings as I let my words resonate.
“Oh” She pauses, I glance up from my hands. “To be honest, every time you talked to Megan, I only wished it could be me that you would talk to like that. Before you told me you were only friends” She chuckles and strokes her forehead. We connect eyes, exchanging looks of embarrassment.
“Oh” It clicks in my mind that she has feelings for me too. “So I was being stupid this whole time. I thought you were just, i dunno” I shrug “I guess playing with my feelings? Which now feels pretty stupid considering the fact that you basically call me every pet name under the sun.” I internally slap myself upside the head, knowing that Megan would do the same. “Oh my god i feel like an idiot” I groan.
“Jesus i thought i wasn't obvious enough,” She runs a hand through her hair “I was just flirting with those girls to get your attention, hoping that maybe you would work up the courage to ask me out.” She pauses for a small chuckle “But I mean I guess our own friends were just so tired of our bullshit that they had to do it themselves.”
-
The rest of the date actually went as well as one could hope, we shared some funny moments about our friends, talked about our interests, and actually got to know each other. I walk her to her car, Her BMW E39.
“Wanna take a spin?” She asks expectantly “i'm a great driver don't worry.”
“When you say you are a good driver, it makes me think you're not a good driver” I imagine being in a confined space with her, and only her. It makes my body feel hot and my palms sweaty. “I do have Megan’s bike, But if you let me drive it to her apartment, can we go for a ride afterwards?” I offered an alternative, hoping she didn't have somewhere to be after this.
“I'm down, send me her address and i'll race you there.” She kisses my cheek “I'll see you there, Hun” I stand stunned at the feeling of her lips on my face. It makes me wonder what it would feel like for her lips to be else whe– “You gonna get on your bike or not?” She laughs under her breath at my reaction
“Oh r-right” I open my phone and send her to Megan's apartment “I’ll meet you there” I pull on my helmet and ride out of the restaurant parking lot.
-
I race to the garage of Megan's apartment complex and hastily park the bike, Like Lara would for some reason change her mind and drive off. I slip the keys into my pocket and run out to the entrance of the complex where she's waiting. Leaning against the hood, fiddling with the keys as she waits. “Ready to go?” She opens the passenger door to her car as I get closer to her. I nod and slip into the seat. She closes the door and giddily runs over to the driver side door.
“Are you that excited to drive me around?” I tease as she closes her door.
“I'm very excited to drive a pretty thing like you around.” She emphasises the very in her sentence with a tone that makes inappropriate thoughts pop into my head. I clear my throat to mask my now very hot face. I buckle my seatbelt, So does she, (SAFETY FIRST, FREAKYNESS LATER) and we set off down the roads of L.A. Laughing and chatting like before, As she stops at an empty grocery store parking lot and we step out of her car. She pulls out blankets from the trunk, lays one out on the hood and sits on top of it. “Come sit” She pats the spot next to her. I cuddle up next to her, our shoulders and thighs touching, she then rolls out the second blanket over our laps. I rest my head on her shoulder, our pinkies touching, I hesitate to ask to hold her hand in mine, But i don't need to. She interlocks our fingers, her thumb the upside of my palm.
“Thank you for tonight, Lara.” I say softly, “I haven't been on a date this good in a while” I chuckle at my past misfortunes with dating.
“No need to thank me, Y/n” I look up at her “I’ve dreamt about a date with you for a very long time, i think this was way better than anything that my brain came up with.” She laughs to herself. When our eyes regain eye contact is when I realise how close our faces had become, I notice every ring in her iris, her moles, her smile lines, and everything about her is just perfect to me. She glances down at my lips before leaning in closer, “Is it okay if I kiss you?” She tucks my hair behind my ear.
“Mhm” is all that can come out of my mouth before we collide. The whole world fades into the background and all I can focus on is her, the way her hand is holding my face, The way she smells like coconut and vanilla, the way she tastes like chapstick and the fading flavour of the coca cola she had during dinner. My hand slips to her waist, trying to hold her closer, for longer, in a need to keep this kiss everlasting. We break to nourish our lungs of needed oxygen, before greedily connecting our lips again. Her hands roam my body freely, grasping for anything to hold onto. “W-wait” I speak against her lips, she backs up. “Lets get inside the car, i dont really want people to see us making out” I hop off the hood and help her roll up the blankets before getting into the car. I climb over the middle console onto her lap, “you don't know how badly i want you, Lara” I moan as i kiss her jawline, making my way down her neck, then her collarbone.
“Then show me, Hun” she says slyly.

hold me close (and mind the blood on my hands)
Rook disappears the moment everyone returns from rescuing the Dalish in Arlathan. Lucanis checks in, and realizes several things very quickly:
1. There is a great deal more wrong with Rook than he'd realized;
2. He is completely, overwhelmingly not equipped to handle this; and
3. He has to handle it regardless - it's Rook. There is simply no other option.
(or, Rook's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day)
read it on ao3!
hey gang! it's been a while. i haven't written anything substantial in YEARS at this point, but despite any complaints i may have about veilguard, it launched me back into writing sad dragon age fics at terminal velocity. i have way too many thoughts and feelings about my rook, and even more about the dynamic with my rook and lucanis.
this is set after committing to the relationship, immediately after the return from the blood of arlathan quest. the relationship is established, but is still very new, and prior to this they've mostly still danced around each other.
my rook is named and described, and has their backstory fleshed out - sorry to those looking for generic!Rook fics, but this isn't the one for you! also, their backstory parallels that of my tabris warden with everything that entails, but the type of violence is left unspecified, so be wary if that's a hard line for you.
other warnings include: symptoms of mental illness, PTSD, and hallucinations.
The aftermath of rescuing the Dalish from the Venatori went like this.
The team returned, battered, bruised, but alive. The Dalish were brought along until the Veil Jumpers could find them a safer place to stay. Everyone was exhausted and still feeling the fear of running out of time, but the mood was otherwise high - they had won. They had saved people this time. Not even Elgar’nan’s monstrous archdemon could take that away.
Everyone took their time drifting back off to their own spaces to clean up; there was an air of subdued celebration around the Lighthouse, long overdue.
Everyone, that is, except for Rook.
Nearly the moment they stepped through the eluvian, Rook vanished with only the retreating sound of their footsteps on the stairs to mark where they’d gone. Lucanis watched them go, trading a concerned glance with Harding. She stepped closer and lowered her voice, murmuring “Something’s up with them. They haven’t said a word since we found the Dalish.”
Lucanis had noticed, too - the entire way back, Rook had been silent, staring at the distance with a haunted look in their eyes. Several members of the clan had tried to thank them, and they hadn’t even seemed to recognize that anyone was speaking. He’d asked if they were alright, and they had only nodded, slow and quiet. Rook was many things; slow and quiet were not typically among them.
“Did Neve or Bellara say anything else about what happened?” he asked.
Harding shook her head. “No, they’re both shaken but okay. I saw Bellara watching them, too, on the way back. She seemed surprised they didn’t want to talk to the Dalish.”
Lucanis looked back at the staircase, frowning. “I’ll give them some time - this mission was hard, and they may just need to rest. But I’ll check in later, see if anything else happened.”
“You may want to push those plans up a bit,” a voice added from his other side. Neve slowed and leaned in as she walked past them, adding, “I don’t know what happened, but the moment they saw the clan, it was like they just… shut down. Which is odd, because between then and getting trapped in Elgar’nan’s maze, they were crying.”
Lucanis stiffened, worry flickering to life. He had seen many things from Rook, in some truly abysmal circumstances; he had yet to see them cry.
“What? Did you talk to them?” he asked, trying to ignore Spite demanding they leave right that instant.
Neve crossed her arms. “I was a little busy trying not to get killed. We didn’t have time for a heart-to-heart.”
Harding sighed, looking back to Lucanis. “I’ve known Rook a long time now, and I’ve never seen them cry. Not even when everything’s falling apart. They trust you; I don’t think they’d be honest with anyone but you right now. You should go.” The words had no resentment to them, only concern. Harding had always been one of their best; Lucanis found himself more grateful than ever for her constant steady presence.
He nodded sharply, resting a brief hand on her shoulder as he turned for the stairs. With another nod to Neve, he left, forcing himself not to rush up the stairs two at a time. No point in worrying the others; this was uncharted territory with Rook, but if he knew them at all then he knew that they wouldn’t want people walking on eggshells around them.
Rook’s door was closed when he arrived. He knocked gently, listening to silence for a moment before saying, “Rook? It’s me. Can I come in?”
For a long moment, there was no answer. Spite was growing louder with every passing second, working himself up until he was shouting for Lucanis to just break the door down.
Lucanis didn’t think it was locked in the first place, but there was no point in arguing.
Finally, though, he heard Rook’s voice, the quietest and most defeated he’d ever heard them sound. “Fine.”
He pushed the door open slowly. At first, he didn’t see them; the room was dark save for the gentle glow of the water through the glass. It took him a moment to focus past that. At first glance, it always reminded him in stunning, horrific clarity of the Ossuary. But that was long since past; Rook had saved him twice over from that place. He forced down the immediate recoil that raced along his skin and stepped carefully into the room, closing the door behind him.
It took only a moment to find Rook, and to realize why he hadn’t seen them at first. They were on the floor in front of their couch, their whole body curled in like they were trying to make themself as small as they could possibly be. They were trembling, he realized at the same moment that he heard their breathing; far too fast, ragged and loud in the silence of the room.
Alarmed, he knelt in front of them, reaching out but stopping himself before he could touch them. They’d confided in him once that an unexpected touch could bring up bad memories, and the last thing he wanted was to hurt them, especially in a state like this.
“Rook? What happened?” He asked, trying and failing to keep the worst of the urgency out of his voice. They still hadn’t looked at him; their face was buried in their arms, copper-pink curls wild around their head where their hands were gripping tight. They shook their head, breathing only growing faster. He forced himself to calm slightly, if only for their sake, and tried a different tactic.
“Lin? Would you please look at me?” he asked, soft as he could manage. He’d never used this name for them before, though they’d said he could; it felt strange after knowing them only as Rook for so long, and the way that they had looked when they told him about it made it clear that it was a name from fond memories, a sweet, familiar shortening of their full name, Lindiranae. He’d never felt right to use it. Even after everything, it felt too personal, too close - but maybe that was what they needed now. Not to be Rook, leader and god-killer, but just Lin, an elf from Ferelden.
At that, they looked up, something like shock piercing briefly through the misery etched across their face. The depth of it stunned him. Tears streaked their face. Red marks like they’d clawed at their own skin marred their cheeks; no broken skin, he noted, but raised and angry nonetheless. A cut high on their cheekbone from their fight with the Venatori had reopened, and blood oozed lazily down until it met tear tracks, dripping off their chin tinged red.
For a single heartbeat, Lucanis was paralyzed with indecision. How could he help without making things worse, especially if they couldn’t speak to tell him what they needed? Before he could even attempt anything, however, the problem was solved for him - Rook all but launched themself at him, fingers tangled desperately in the fabric at his back as they buried their face in his shoulder. A sob tore out of them like they’d fought to keep it buried, and suddenly they were weeping in his arms like the world had ended.
It terrified him, but this at least he could do. Without another word, he tightened his hold, pulling them all the way against his chest and pressing his lips to the top of their head. If nothing else, he could weather this with them, and hold them together until they stopped falling apart at the seams.
He whispered reassurances against their hair, cradling them as they cried. He could feel the tension in their body; every muscle felt rigid, every joint locked to the point of trembling. It made his heart ache. How many nights had he spent in the Ossuary, alone, entire body stiff with the effort it took to keep his fear and grief and sorrow buried? Whatever they were feeling, they had been carrying it for a long time. He’d always seen the way their shoulders curved in, the slump to their spine when they thought no one else was looking. He knew that while they had shared some of their past with him, there was so much more he wasn’t privy to, and it ate away at them in a way that took a physical toll. He clutched them a little tighter, wishing not for the first time that battles of the mind could be fought with knives, and that they didn’t need to be fought alone in the end.
Slowly, Lin’s breathing began to quiet. They were no longer gasping for air. Their desperate sobs calmed, going from wracking, breaking things to soft whimpers that made his chest seize. After a long, long time, they lifted their head just slightly, acknowledging that the worst was over without quite meeting his eye.
“Sorry,” they whispered, voice still thick with tears. “Didn’t want you to see me like this.”
In spite of himself, the corner of Lucanis’ mouth twitched up. “That’s my line,” he murmured, hearing a quiet chuckle from them. “Mi vida, there is nothing you can show me that will scare me away. Not now. Not after everything we have been through.”
They sighed, the tension in their shoulders finally easing a bit as they laid back against him. Their arms remained wrapped around him, but hung looser at his waist now. He brought one hand up to brush aside their hair, cupping their cheek and gently turning their face towards him. The warm olive of their skin was flushed, the deep red tattoos and pinkish scars across their face fading into the color. They looked younger, he thought. Less miserable now than when he’d arrived, at least. Their eyes weren’t quite dry yet, but despite the sadness that lingered, there was a spark of their usual joy as they finally met his gaze.
“I don’t deserve you,” they said softly, leaning into his touch and pressing a gentle kiss to his palm.
He shook his head. “Don’t. I would not even be here if it weren’t for you. You saved my life, Rook. More than that, you have shown me more compassion in a few short months than I have known my entire life. You deserve everything I can give you and more.”
Their eyes welled again, and they hid their face against his neck, taking a deep, shuddering breath.
“You called me Lin, earlier,” they said, voice muffled. “I didn’t- I didn’t realize that I missed being called that name. I like ‘Rook,’ but it’s starting to feel like they’re not quite me. Larger than life, a leader, a hero…” Their voice turned sour on the final word. “I’m not a hero. A hero would have succeeded all the times I failed. Would’ve stayed with the clan, or have saved my sister and stayed in Denerim in the first place.”
“And you would have never stopped Solas, never planned to save the world, never brought any of us together,” Lucanis countered, tucking away the new information about a clan and a sister away in the back of his mind. “You never would have saved me, and we would not be here now. The Dalish are safe, we are safe for the time being; if you’re not a hero, Lin, then I don’t know who is.”
Still hiding their face, they mumbled something that sounded like “Don’t know if I want to be.”
To that, Lucanis had no answer. He kissed the top of their head and finally settled on “Then you’re not. You’re just you, and no matter what the rest of the world may believe, that is enough. After all, it got you this far.”
They finally broke into the barest hint of a wobbly smile. “I’ll steal your other line, then; how do you always do that?”
He grinned. “Do what?”
“‘Break apart my perfectly gathered clouds of doom,’” they quoted at him in a poor imitation of his accent. At that, he laughed. Relief swept through him; here was his Rook. His strange, vicious, vibrant Rook. Maker, but they were everything.
“Someone has to,” he said. “You watch over everyone else; someone should be watching over you, too.”
“I think that’s what I have you for,” they said, smile growing.
Unable to help himself, he pressed a kiss to their forehead, feeling them take in a breath beneath him. This was quickly becoming a habit, it seemed, as though he hadn’t done it for the first time just minutes ago.  “Always, corazón.”
For a quiet moment, they sat, tangled together on the floor; they didn’t seem inclined to move, or even notice that they were curled together closer than they’d ever been. They were slowly relaxing in his arms. All the time he’d known them, Rook had always been cautious with touch. They often moved like they were going to lay a friendly hand on his shoulder, tap Davrin’s arm for emphasis, grab Bellara’s shoulder to keep her steady - and then, they always stopped before making contact. He’d seen them flinch away from others on the battlefield; he also knew, however, that if they were comfortable, tired, or inebriated,  they began to lean further into touch, instead. They’d always been careful with him, too, never touching unless they knew he could see it coming. He’d never known a thoughtfulness like theirs. It was appreciated; after so long in the Ossuary, any contact, friendly or otherwise, was often too much to bear. He’d been finding, lately, that this was less and less true the longer he spent with this team.
But now, they were curled in his lap like a cat in a sunny window. He wondered idly if this was how they had been once; if little Rook growing up in the alienage had been free with their affection and not thought anything of casual, everyday touch. The thought twisted a little in his heart. They likely missed it, but held themself back out of either a respect for others’ traumas, or their own.
At that thought, he pulled back a bit to look at them. “I am… not the best at this part, but did you want to talk about it? Neve said that you just… shut down, when you found the Dalish. Did something happen?”
They sighed, swiping a hand under their eyes. “No. Well, yes, but a long time ago. It’s just that - the clan we saved was the clan I belonged to once.”
Whatever Lucanis had expected, this wasn’t it. No wonder they’d had such a reaction.
“I didn’t even know until we found them, and that whole time… I was already so desperate to save the Dalish, they’re all my people, but I had no idea it was my clan’s lives on the line. If I’d been just a little slower….” they finished, voice going hoarse as they fought back more tears.
“But you weren’t,” Lucanis said firmly. “You got them out. They are safe, and so are you.”
“I know,” they whispered. “It’s just… I already failed them once. If I’d failed them again, and they’d gotten killed because I wasn’t good enough, especially after all the danger everyone put themselves in to help - I couldn’t live with that.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I know,” they repeated. “But when I realized it was them, it was all I could think about.”
Lucanis paused a moment before answering, letting this wealth of new information settle, then said carefully, “I didn’t know that you had belonged to a clan before. I thought you grew up in the city?”
They nodded, their gaze far away. “I did.”
“Then, the clan came later? Can I ask what happened?”
Rook sighed, a tear tracing its way silently down their gaunt cheek. “I… I found them after I was- after I left Denerim,” they said. Lucanis noticed a hesitation as they spoke, and thought back to what little they’d already told him. They had been forced to leave, he knew, after they’d killed a human who had gotten a little too bold in the alienage. He didn’t know the nature of the incident beyond that; he wasn’t sure he wanted to.
“I’d been on my own for a few years. I’d always wanted to learn more about the Dalish, be a part of keeping all those old stories the elder in the alienage told us alive. With how we lived… it sounded like a dream come true. Freedom, always moving, allowed to go wherever you wanted - I’d never left home before I had to, and then I never felt safe enough to enjoy the travel.
“When I met them, most of them were kind, sympathetic. I told the Keeper what had happened, and begged her to let me join. She agreed. I was with them for years; they taught me all their stories, and how to hunt, to fight. It was… more peaceful than anything I’d ever known.”
Here they paused, taking a deep, steadying breath. Lucanis frowned. “I am happy to listen, but there is no need to tell me, if you do not wish to.”
Rook shook their head. “No, I - I think I need someone else to know.”
He nodded, threading his fingers through theirs and lightly squeezing their hand in wordless support. They returned the gesture, then continued.
“Many of them were kind, but it was still fairly clear I didn’t belong. I was the only one that wasn’t born to the clan. There were those that never let me forget it.”
“Then they were fools,” Lucanis found himself saying, surprised at the vitriol in his own voice. How much of that was him, he wondered, and how much was Spite? He didn’t suppose it mattered much, not when they were in agreement.
Rook blinked at him, wide amber eyes a little startled. Then they smiled, tucking themself back in closer to him. “Well said, but it hardly matters now. I… grew tired of never feeling like I was good enough. We travelled up closer to Arlathan, and a few hunters were wounded by a demon that had come through one of the Fade tears. The Keeper forbade anyone from going near it, but it was scaring away the halla, killing or driving away prey. I-I guess I thought that if I killed it, they’d finally take me seriously.”
Lucanis’ heart sank. “I assume that’s not what happened.”
They grimaced. “No. I was an idiot, and I should’ve just listened to the Keeper. I convinced a few other hunters to go with me. It was a rage demon, a powerful one. We didn’t stand a chance.”
Their grip on his hand tightened, shaking a little. “It killed one of them, Naeris, almost immediately. The rest of us ran, but it followed. Thea tried to slow it down, and it nearly killed her too. By the time we lost it, I couldn’t breathe from running so far. We waited for hours so that at least we wouldn’t lead it back to the clan. We had to carry Thea back. Naeris was just… gone. We didn’t even know if there was a body to return. Faen was badly hurt. All of us were burned. And I brought them there.”
They were crying again. Lucanis held them close, a terrible understanding dawning over him as so many of the odd little pieces that made up his Rook slotted suddenly into place. No wonder they were so content to let others take the lead on missions, no wonder they shied away from being presented as a leader. No wonder they ran themself ragged jumping at the chance to help people wherever they went, and vanished into themself when they couldn’t.
“The Keeper was furious. She got halfway through telling me I was no longer welcome before I told her I was already leaving. Even if they’d let me stay, I couldn’t, not after that. Only a couple other hunters said anything to defend me, and it didn’t last long. The worst part was the staring. I could feel them all watching me the whole time I packed up to leave. When I actually walked out, almost the whole clan was gathered, just… watching me leave. They were so disappointed, so angry, I-” Their voice broke.
Lucanis was about to put his best effort towards a reassuring response, but then their eyes shifted to the side, as though watching someone in the corner of the room speak. Then, a moment later, “No, that’s the problem, it was my fault! I took them there! It was my stupid idea!”
“Rook? What is happening, who are you talking to?”
“No, it was my fault! My fault I lost you, my fault you’re dead, my fault-” Their voice grew louder with each passing second.
If Lucanis had felt uncertainty and concern before, this sent him into something close to panic. He had seen odd behaviors from Rook on occasion, but never like this. They sounded nearly hysterical now, addressing someone who wasn’t there in response to something that hadn’t been said. Even as he tried to calm them, his mind raced through possibilities. Possession? No, Spite would know. Magic? Unlikely; Spite would sense that, too. Were they seeing things? Had they hit their head fighting the Venatori? No, Bellara and Neve would have said something.
They started to sit up, to pull away from him, shoulders shaking, opening their mouth to respond again in their one-sided conversation. Suddenly, fear gripped him, and it could’ve been either his own inner voice or Spite’s that said dangerous; don’t let them go. Without thinking, he caught their wrist. “Rook - Lin-”
They reacted like an animal in a trap. They surged away, twisting their arm, all but howling - he winced, hating to be the one causing this for them, but he had no idea what was happening. If he let them go in this state, they could hurt themself, or worse. He held fast, reaching out with his other hand to turn their face towards him.
“Rook, please - it’s just me, I’m not going to hurt you-”
“That’s what they always say,” they snarled, their eyes devoid of recognition or even cognizance. They weren’t fully here, he realized. They were living out something else, a memory that had been buried until their conversation had unearthed it. Still, to see this much fear and know that he had caused it was a shame like he’d never known.
“Please, listen - you’re safe, Rook, mi vida, I promise. No dejar que nada te lastime, please just look at me-”
Their gaze sharpened, focusing on his face even as they continued to struggle against him. For a split second, all he could see was rage and terror. Their nails dug into his arm hard enough to draw blood.
Then something seemed to dawn on them, and they froze, eyes roving across his face like they were trying desperately to place where they knew him from. Their chest rose and fell in short gasps. He could see their pulse fluttering in their throat, could feel it against his fingers. After a long, agonizing moment they whispered “Lucanis?”
“Yes, mi amor, I’m here,” he breathed, brushing curls back from their sweat-damp skin. A breath, then two, then they were shaking their head, looking away with guilt written across their face. “I-I’m so sorry, I don’t-”
He could feel them trying to retreat the way that they had both done before, when everything spilling out of them was too much of a mess to trust other people to help clean. It frightened him, in such a sudden, sharp way that he knew he was past the point of no return. Whatever else happened, whatever they did, whatever the gods threw at them, he loved Rook. He couldn’t bear the thought of them pulling away and trying to deal with this on their own.
Abruptly, he pulled them into the tightest embrace he could. They were warm against his chest. Their babbling apologies cut off with a yelp, and they sat rigid for a moment before tentatively raising their hands to his back.
“What? Lucanis, I-I don’t understand, I-”
“You have nothing to apologize for,” he interrupted. “I will not leave you alone in this. Whatever happens, we face it together.”
He felt their grip tighten, their face fall against his shoulder. For the second time that day, he held them as they cried, with the sudden understanding that every day could be like this and he would never once complain. He would do anything they needed of him. He would kill a hundred blighted gods to keep them safe.
“I’m still so, so sorry,” they choked out through tears. “I didn’t- I wasn’t myself, and I - oh, creators, did I hurt you?” They tried to pull back to look at his arm, but he shook his head and refused to let go.
“No, corazón. You did not hurt me.”
They sniffled, relaxing fully against him again, and took a slow, deep breath. Their racing heart began to calm; he could still feel their pulse hammering beneath their skin, but it was less frantic now.
“I’m… usually better at knowing when it’s real,” they murmured, with the air of someone admitting a deeply painful secret. “It’s harder when I’ve already been thinking about the past. Like it all catches up to me, and I have no idea when or where I am.”
Lucanis shut his eyes, breathing in the faint scent of juniper that lingered in their hair. How long had they been dealing with this? To spend their life haunted by ghosts - though, now was perhaps not the time for every question he wanted to ask. Just the first, then.
“Who do you see? Or what?” he asked gently, finally loosening his hold so that he could look at them.
They kept their eyes firmly on the floor, fidgeting with the frayed hem of the sleeve they’d wiped across their cheeks. “My-my sister, mostly. But there are others. And it’s not all the time, it’s worse when I’m tired, or stressed. It’s not so bad when it’s just her - she’s still kind to me, usually. Tells me things aren’t my fault. The others, though…” they shuddered, shaking their head. “I see… I see that first human I killed sometimes. He says horrible things. So does the other one, his friend. Sometimes he kills my sister all over again, on the really bad days.”
“Rook… I am so sorry,” Lucanis said, letting his forehead rest against theirs. “I will not ask you to stay in those memories any longer; just know that if I could carve my way through time itself to prevent them from ever reaching you, I would.” He could feel something like rage boiling in him. Of all the people to see things like this, he could think of few who deserved it less than them. Those two men had begun all of this back in their alienage, and that single choice had warped Rook’s entire life, to the point that over a decade later they still haunted them at every turn. Cowardice, selfishness; Lucanis wanted to stab something. He settled for taking Rook’s hand and pressing a soft kiss to their knuckles. There would be time for all of that later, to determine what exactly they were going through and how best to help them. For now, they had to be exhausted. They needed to rest.
When he looked up and saw them staring at him, wide-eyed, he froze, righteous anger dissipating as he realized how absurd this whole situation was. All of this, easy vulnerability and intimacy the likes of which he’d never imagined sharing with another person, and he still hadn’t even kissed them properly. He nearly had, that day in the pantry, but he’d panicked at the last second. So much for his Crow training.
He’d have to rectify that, and soon - but not now. They deserved a first kiss done correctly. Not a spur-of-the-moment thing tempered by tears and blood, but something properly sweet - like honey and lavender cream, he’d told them once.
Carefully, he extricated himself and stood, holding out a hand to help them up. They took it gratefully, leaning against him for one last brief moment before sitting heavily on the couch. Deep shadows ringed their eyes. They rubbed at their face, blinking blearily up at him - they seemed calm, now, if still a little sad.
“‘m tired,” they said, the words slow and indistinct. “I should - I’m gonna take a nap. Can you… Can you just stay until I fall asleep?”
“Of course.”
As they stretched out, Lucanis dampened a cloth in the washbasin in the corner of the room. He crouched beside them, and they smiled softly at him, eyes already heavy with the promise of sleep. He held up the cloth in lieu of asking out loud. They nodded, wincing a little as he ran it gently over the cut on their cheek.
He felt a small, calloused hand slip into his as he finished cleaning the cut. When he looked up, Rook’s eyes were already closed. He set the cloth aside and sat back down on the floor beside them, careful not to move too much. As their breathing evened out, he leaned forward and pressed a feather-light kiss to the top of their head. They curled unconsciously closer to him and let out a soft sigh. He smiled.
Right now, they just needed steady comfort. He wasn’t sure he was quite qualified, but he loved them, and that would have to be enough.

THIS IS ME TRYING !
i always did my best. in school, life, everything. i needed to get into college, i NEEDED to get out of my house. however, college isn’t cheap. and i don’t exactly have the best support system, so it’s up to me. i’m in film club, national honors society and student council. i spend whatever free time studying or at my best friend, tyler’s house. it’s overwhelming, but i didn’t have many options. if i wanted to get into a good school and start living my life the way I want to, this had to be done. but today was rough, i spent all of last night finishing my college essay just to go to school bright and early the next day. i was so exhausted, but what else was new. except i had a test in my first two classes, a presentation for national honors society. and i had to stay late for a student council meeting.
i was used to the stress, however today was just awful. every little thing that could go wrong went wrong. i was late to school because my car broke down, which meant i missed taking the test. i tried to beg my teacher to still let me take it but he only said he'll think about letting me make it up. i NEEDED to take this test, it was a huge part of my grade. it wasn't fair. i gave my presentation for NHS, which went fine. except everyone's presentations were WAY better than mine was. it was obvious the amount of effort and time they spent on it, sure i put effort into mines. i was just missing the time, since i stayed up all night wednesday putting it together. i felt like an idiot. i sat alone at lunch, i only shared my lunch period with one of my friends. but she was busy hanging with her boyfriend. i ended up skipping and just spending the time volunteering at the library. the more hours the better. the day seemed to drag on, especially since i had to stay later. like most if not all the other kids who did student council, we were only doing it for our college applications. i didn't get along well with the other kids. not in the way where we would fight or anything. they were all just so pretentious and snobby. they would always undermind me, as if i could never be an intellectual individual like them. i spent the whole 4 hours i had to stay there wanting to stick my face in a hot pan of oil. when it was all FINALLY over, i sat in my car for a minute. i felt so.. worthless. everything i did didn't feel like enough, maybe it wasn't enough. what's the point of doing all these things if i wasn't even good at any of it? it wasn't long before tears filled my eyes. but i watched as the other kids from student council walked over to their fancy cars. and i realized the last thing i needed was for them to see me crying in car that probably should've been in a junkyard AGES ago. i didn't want to go home, my parents would only make me feel worse. i called tyler and asked if i could come over. he said yes and with that i drove over to his house in silence. my thoughts racing through my head were the only things i could hear. i will never be good enough. for anyone, for anything. what is the point in even trying?
eventually i knocked on tyler's door. to which he answered with a smile. it was a struggle for me to return one back. i didn't say anything at first, tyler was telling me about some story about him and josh. i couldn't focus though, my head was spinning. tyler noticed, he reached out and touched my shoulder lightly. "what's going on y/n?", tyler spoke softly. i tried to shrug it off, but tyler was more stubborn than i was.
"i know you're not okay, what's up?", tyler looked over at me softly. i wanted to tell him not to worry about it. my problems were stupid anyways. but i knew tyler wasn't one to let these kind of things go.
"what is the point of trying if i'll never be good enough.."
"trying to do what?"
"everything.", i let out a sigh.
"all i do is try, try, try. and yet i always fall short every single time i mean- it's exhausting.", as much as i tried to fight it tears fell from my eyes.
"i'm not good enough i-"
"y/n please.", tyler reached out and held my hand.
"you are more than amazing. you are the most hard working, driven person i know."
"you have to say that-"
"i mean it.", my cloudy eyes met tyler's brown ones.
"i think you're more than enough, you have such amazing things ahead of you. and that's all because of your dedication. i'm so proud of you.", i practically fell into tyler's arms. he rubbed my back as he spoke over my muffled sobs.
"you're so perfect to me y/n, i admire you.", those word silenced the negative thoughts pounding in my head. tyler's arms made me feel safe. i finally felt okay. i always knew tyler had a way with words thanks to his music. but this was so much better than that. i finally felt like i was enough.
“look at me y/n.”, i hesitated for a moment before i lifted my head up. this was the closest we’ve ever been, our inches only inches away from each other.
“i think you’re so lovely.”, my cheeks flushed a little bit. tyler’s compliment making my heart skip a beat.
“as long as you think so.”

Life/Blog Update
Okay! So it's been a while.
Mod Mocha here, I realize I have been on a bit of an unofficial Hiatus, and this is to explain where I've been, what's happening, and how this blog is gonna be going forward.
Tumblr media
So around November of 2024, I met my wonderful partner/future boyfriend Starlight, (not his actual name). and I've been spending time getting to know him, and I'm pretty sure this is the guy I've been wishing for for years. He's sweet, he's attracted to my intelligence, he thinks I'm wonderful, and he's everything I've ever wanted. The only problem is, he lives in another country an ocean away (go figure) but we talk frequently, almost every day (I do know what he looks and sounds like) and I'm the happiest I've ever been.
I've been spending time on my other non-pony centric platforms, (Tiktok and YouTube) and developing my content. I've also been brainstorming ideas for another project, either a comic or animated show, or maybe a book, (I haven't decided fully) I've made the cast and two concept videos, but it's not a fully fledged project yet.
As far as this blog, i'm in a situation where updates to the blog regarding story rely heavily on my collaborator Bee to respond to reblogs and the like in a timely fashion. (due to many factors, this isn't possible) Bee works, and has her own life, and less free time and overall vested interest, (from my pov anyway) to devote to this Blog than I do. Currently being in college and the overachiever student I am, I have a lot of downtime, which is why when things are lulled, I fill the space with asks, side storylines, and new characters to keep interest in this Blog. It gets a little exhausting, and sometimes I take a break, but I truly want to tell an interesting story everyone will enjoy.
Bee is my best friend, and some of these characters are readapted characters we've had for years. (EX: Kodiak Darkstone, Sanori Kokoro) and I wanted to include them in the story, but that means there will be large delays in story progression because some characters aren't mine, and I hate bugging her about it because she's a busy bee most of the time, and I don't like bothering her.
All this to say, this blog, is still going, and if the current way it's going proves to be too much to upkeep, I may discuss other options with Bee behind the scenes.
Thank you for reading my lovlies!

I’m Here, Right Here Pt. 1
Tumblr media
(Harry Styles x Implied Bi!Fem!reader)
My take from when I first listened to satellite!
Y/N is Jeff's assistant and Harry's best friend. She's been in and out of relationships for one reason or another and is upset. Harry is hopelessly in love with her and she is too blind to see it.
Dating while traveling is not for the weak..
After yet another failed date, I return to my hotel room to find Harry propping himself against my door. He turns his attention to me and smiles when he sees me.
"Hey! Was looking for you. Thought you might want to get some dinner? Sushi and a movie? Haven't done that in a while.."
I sigh and frown, shaking my head as I unlock my door, Harry following me inside.
"That's really sweet, H, but not tonight. I'm honestly exhausted and all I want to do is shower and crash. Rain check? I promise we'll do it tomorrow."
He frowns before nodding.
"Are you gonna tell me what happened?"
I sniffle as I pull off my makeup, trying not to cry.
"I just don't know what I'm doing wrong! Like this guy! His name was Todd... It seemed like we had a lot in common but halfway through dinner, he saw my tattoos and he started scolding me. Then he proceeded to tell me what I was doing wrong in my life, starting with my career choice-."
He lets out a laugh and shakes his head as he collapses on my bed.
"What? You want to be a music producer. I'd say you're heading in the right direction."
I groan and start to pull off my jewelry.
"No, because apparently, that's not a good career for a wife. Like, as if dude! I want things for myself. Im not gonna be some stay at home wife popping out babies, you know? H...Harry, are you listening to me?"
He doesn't answer but he lifts his hand up and gives me a thumbs up. I sigh and change my clothes in the bathroom before coming out and plopping on my stomach next to him.
"What do you think I should do, H?"
He sighs and he's quiet for a minute, his eyes looking anywhere but at me.
"You could stop... Take a break from dating."
I groan and plop my head into the bed.
"I'm not getting any younger! I want things sure, but I want to be happy too!"
He sits up, finally looking down into my eyes, a serious look on his face.
"Aren't you though? You've got all your friends. You've told me time and time again that the perfect one for me will come when I least expect it. So why not try taking your own advice?"
With that, he gets up and heads to the door. I frown, quickly getting up from the bed and chasing after him. I give him a pout and he sighs.
He gives me a small hug and leaves my room, not saying another word.
As promised, the next night, we get sushi and watch some movies. As I stuff my face with California Rolls, Harry continues to ramble.
"You've gone on a date almost every stop we've been on! Who does that?!"
He laughs and I can't help but shrug.
"Someone who just doesn't have any luck, I guess? Every date I've been on... No one really seems to stick out. And it's not like I'm not keeping my options open! But it's just... I don't know."
He nods in understanding before popping a California roll in his mouth.
"Are you gonna sue the dating apps like in that movie? What was it.. Love Guaranteed?"
I snort and choke on my food a little before shaking my head.
"No! That's just a movie! As if I'd meet some attractive lawyer and fall in love! Crazy talk! And what about you, Mr. Pop Star? You've been single for a while. Where's your love life going?"
He doesn't look at me but he shrugs.
"Dunno. Just kind of focusing on my music right now. Figured I've got time, right? No use in worrying."
He drops the topic and we hang out for the rest of the night. For the next week, Harry seems pretty quiet around me, and I'm not really sure why. Mr. Azoff gave me the night off, even though there's a show.
I had originally planned to go on a date, but my date cancelled, so I decide to watch the show. I stand next to Mr. Azoff as I watch Harry go up on stage.
"Why are you still here? Thought you had a hot date?"
I shake my head with a sigh, holding my sweater close to me.
"Cancelled on me. Thought I might enjoy watching him without having to run around for once."
He nods with a small smile. It's quiet for a minute between the two of us, until he says something I wasn't expecting.
"I've noticed you've been going on dates a lot... At least once every stop, if not more."
My eyes widen and I try to defend myself.
"Mr. Azoff-."
He frowns and shakes his head.
"Y/N, I'm not saying this as your boss. I'm saying this as your friend. You do it in your down time but we're all just a bit worried about you. This has to be a lot on you. Just... Talk to someone about it, okay? If you're doing it because you feel alone, don't. You have so many people who care about you. So just... Take it easy, okay?"
I nod and turn my attention back to the stage. Watching Harry up there.. No matter how many times I watch, he's always so captivating. I can't take my eyes off him...
After the show is over, Harry quickly takes a shower. I run out, offering to grab coffee for the band. When I come back, I get echos of thank you's and when I give Harry his coffee, he gives me a look of shock.
"Thought you had a date tonight? What are you doing here?"
He takes the coffee from my hand and I plop down next to him on the sofa, slipping off my heels before resting my feet on the coffee table.
"A bust. Yet again. Maybe next time will work, right? Aren't you the one always telling me to be optimistic?"
He's quiet and he simply stands up before he turns to face me, a look of anger on his face.
"Why are you doing this to yourself, Y/N? You come to me every time, crying for one reason or another how it didn't work out and you're so sad that you're alone! Did you ever think that maybe you're not alone?!"
I stand up and cross my arms, looking straight at him.
"Harry, you don't know what it's like! People like you! I have to work my ass off to make sure I'm appealing to others! I want more! I want love! Don't you get that?"
He shakes his head and walks to the door before turning around to face me again.
"Did you ever stop and think that maybe I might love you?! That watching you go on date after date is killing me?!"
My eyes widen and I stutter.
"H-Harry.."
He shakes his head once again, and stares straight into my eyes.
"It's always round and round with you! Like a fucking satellite! I'm just- I'm done Y/N. I've tried. For months. But I'm done."
He doesn't say another word as he leaves and I fall onto the couch, tears starting to fall down my face.
He was right there?

dancing with the devil | verna x reader
I'm back!!!
this one is just a spooky season special, as I've been away for all these days and haven't done one yet, I thought it would be cool to do it now!
this oneshot comes a lot from my obsession with Mike Flanagan's work, which even led me to watch The Fall of the House of Usher recently.
and, of course, it also comes from my obsession with Carla Gugino.
so, I hope you like it!
late requests coming out soon, so stay tuned!
enjoy!
requests open, but please be patient with me.

Tumblr media
PROMPT: It's New Year's Eve, and you find yourself in a bar, completely alone, with no one to give you the good luck's kiss. But a mysterious new barista catches your eye, and she could be your salvation, if only she didn't hide so many secrets.
***
You weren't one to complain, but it had been a pretty horrible year.
People generally await the New Year with a lot of ambition, full of resolutions, glamorous plans and self-centered achievements. But you do not.
You just wanted the next one to be better.
As if the miserable conditions you were experiencing at Fortunato were not enough, not being paid enough for the effort you made, sitting at the reception desk at the behest of the great Rufus Griswold - who did nothing except try to harass you in every way -, in a routine exhausting where you could never sleep properly, you still had your parents, and the terrible relationship you had with them.
So, when you sat at that bar, at the lonely counter, all you thought about was stuffing yourself until you pass out, hoping for a counting miracle. Some people were getting along well when you arrived, and others were giving you side-eye, but with the thought that you were less attractive to them, you decided that the counter would be the best option.
Suddenly, those eyes that looked yellow from afar fell on you, and the figure that carried them turned around, with a subtle smile.
"I see someone needs a drink, hm?"
You looked at her, and shrugged, before answering. "Just today. I can't drink, I still have work tomorrow."
She continued to smile, and you had the slight impression that her eyes had returned to their normal color. Clear, deep and very eye-catching. But it could just be the impression, because you were too exhausted to make sense.
"Ah, I understand. Just a minute, I'll prepare something relaxing for you, miss…"
"(Y\N)."
She nodded, turning away and concentrating on preparing whatever the drink was. Like I said before, you were too tired to care about what drink you were going to drink. If you could just get to New Year with something in your throat, that would be a good idea.
After minutes that felt like seconds of waiting, the barista turned to you, two shiny glass cups in her hands. She was still smiling subtly as she slid your glass and turned hers in her other hand.
She served you with the same smile, and then looked at you. "It's funny, I can see there's something wrong with you... Something that's stopping you from celebrating tonight."
You looked back at her, frowning, and sighing afterwards.
"It's true, it was... It wasn't a very good year", you commented, feeling terrible for venting to a stranger. "But the year ahead will be better, I know that."
"And why is that? Why was it so bad?"
"My boss, my work... everything makes me exhausted... and not having anyone to talk to is really bad at these moments...", You took a sip. "Um, that's great, is it Merlot?"
"It's Merlot, but it's not one of the best...", the barista said, tapping her glass still. "I've seen and experienced better, around the world."
"Have you been around the world?", you asked, unable to resist your curiosity. She smiled and nodded. "Where did you go? On that expedition?"
"I've been there too, but not just on this occasion", she said, and suddenly stopped, as if she were saying too much. "You know, it's interesting, being on the other side. Sometimes it's tiring, it breaks my heart, but... It's good, there are things there that are worth the effort."
You were more intrigued. She didn't look like the type of person who would travel around the world, wearing black clothes and a gothic look, as if she wanted to hide on purpose. Generally, these trips are made for people who want to be seen, above all else in the world.
"What are you talking about, exactly?"
"Have you ever had a dream... a desire... a deep, hidden desire that no one has ever fulfilled, and that you yourself didn't imagine you could achieve?", she looked at you with the same curiosity as you. "I'm like... A dream maker. I go on these trips just for that..."
You frowned, still not understanding, but took another sip to hide it, nodding.
"Are you the personification of the genie in the lamp?"
She laughed. "Ah, I would like to, but no. It would be a lot of ego on my part, but I would say that I'm better than him", she laughed. "Verna is my name, but the name never makes that much of a difference to me."
“Different name, never heard it before,” you said, drinking again. "Are you from here?"
"I'm from nowhere. I'm everywhere, at all times... it's strange, I know, but it makes sense to me."
You nodded, finding it strange. And then, he found it even stranger when she helped herself to the Merlot on the counter and drank some. She smiled at you, still tapping the glass.
"But what about you, (Y/N)? Do you have any desires that you thought would be unrealizable, unattainable? Please be honest with me."
You opened your mouth, and then thought a little. "No. I think I'm happy this way. Except for a few little things that I would change here and there..."
She softened her gaze and took a sip, her clear eyes suddenly yellowed again and wide, fixed on you. "What kind?"
“Like, my boss giving me the justice I deserve, and stop hitting on me,” you laughed, drinking the last sip and pouring yourself again. "Not much."
"Your boss is too terrible for you, (Y/N)," Verna replied, smiling. "Don't ask me how I know this, but I do. One day someone will show him what's really good, don't worry."
You frowned. "You seem so sure, are you some kind of psychic?"
She laughed. "No. I would like to be, but no. I... I see people's possibilities. And that's it. I help them based on the possibilities."
She stared at you again, and looked away at the TV, where the ball was falling on the screen in Times Square.
"Oh, it looks like it's almost time," she whispered, laughing. "Your year is going to be great, (Y/N), I'll make sure of that."
“You…” you started, but she shushed you, smiling.
"You just have to make a deal with me."
"What kind of deal?"
Verna thought for a while, and then smiled. "Wow, you seem so sure..."
She was mocking you, of course, you realized right away, and with a muffled laugh, you glanced back at the TV, hearing people echoing a countdown. The ball finally reached its destination, and you turned around, seeing Verna's yellow eyes glued to yours again. She suddenly leaned over and stole a peck from you, taking a little too long to pull away.
“Was that your deal?”, you whispered, smiling mischievously. Verna took a moment to open her eyes and then tilted her head, as if agreeing.
She thought for a while and then finally said, her voice low, slowly close to your ear, as if she wanted to seduce or bewitch you. She had one of the softest voices you'd ever heard, and apparently she knew how to use it.
"Actually, it was a plan to find out if you were trustworthy, if you were innocent enough to accept my deal…", she whispered. "And because I know, deep down, that what you wanted most was to be kissed on New Year's Eve, my sweet client."
You trailed off, looking at her, getting lost in the soft expression on her pale face. Suddenly, an impulsive idea occurred to you, and you leaned in again, kissing her, this time with more intensity. When you touched her hair, behind the back of her head, you had the impression that it melted at the touch, as if Verna were just an illusion, as if she were the literal cosmic dust from which human beings possibly emerged.
However, the kiss didn't last long. She pushed you away with her feather-light hands, and to the naked eye, it looked like it was just a breeze of wind stopping you both. She touched your face, running her fingers lightly across your cheek as she whispered:
"We can't do that right now, (Y\N). I'm afraid you're not sober enough, and it wouldn't be wise for me to take advantage of this."
You looked at it for a moment and realized it made sense. But she had kissed you first, so it was clearly just an excuse, as always happened. You started to wonder if your kiss was that bad.
"But, Verna…"
"Please, darling. I'm trying to be reasonable. Like I said, I work with possibilities, and the possibility of us working out is less than zero. Don't get me wrong, it's just in case…", she hesitated. "Condemning pure-souled humans to my cruel and inevitable fate wouldn't be extremely political of me."
You sighed, and gave her the space she needed, even though you couldn't take your eyes off her. Verna was the same, and you could feel that, despite what it seemed like, that moment you shared wasn't just fun, much less just a New Year's kiss.
Verna poured you the rest of the Merlot and, with the same soft expression, touched your face again. This time, her voice was clear, and in a moment of vulnerability, she made it more than explicit that she wasn't lying when she said:
"But we'll still meet, (Y\N)," she whispered, her fingers again like soft feathers touching his skin. "Our deal may not have been sealed, but you've proven enough innocence and courage to convince me that you're capable of this. You'll have a great new job, I promise, and your boss will never bother you again."
She nodded, and you allowed yourself to nod too, so confused that you definitely didn't know what to believe anymore. There was a little devil on your shoulder urging you to try again, and there was another devil, right in front of you, who would be harder to convince than you expected.
"And of course, you will have my full protection," Verna whispered, smiling. "I'm not going to promise you eternal life, because that would be impossible even for someone like me. But I promise, and I need you to believe me on this one, I promise that I will move mountains so no one will hurt you again."
You smiled, and drank the last sip. Suddenly, another impulse. This time, a question, instead of an action.
"What are you? An angel? A genie without a lamp? A tempting devil who seeks souls and deals?"
Verna smiled, and simply looked away at her glass again, magically empty. "I already told you. I'm nothing, I don't have a life. I'm just what your mind wants me to be."
You were confused, but suddenly, a memory hit you hard. When you looked at Verna, it was as if she already knew.
"I really need to go. My mom will be furious if I get home late, even on New Year's..."
She nodded. "Please don't take any chances. This part, I won't be able to protect you."
You laughed, stood up and slid out the only dollar bill you had. Verna looked at the ballot, he turned it around and handed it back to you, denying it.
"No need. The bill is already paid."
"What?"
"Please don't insist. I insist."
You looked at her, shrugged, and frowned, suddenly realizing that maybe it was for the best. She kept watching you, until you left, and as soon as you turned outside, on the street, you noticed who had just walked through a solid wall.
The bar was gone.
And she was gone too.
Even more confused - and blaming the drink -, you put your hands in your pockets to protect yourself, and walked back home, into the daylight. As soon as you crossed the street, however, another very curious thing caught your attention.
There was a raven, standing still, resting on a post. It was just any raven, but it was a raven, and it looked down at you. Suddenly, you had the impression that he had winked at you.
"What nonsense. Ravens don't blink," you whispered to yourself, looking at the raven again. He remained there, standing still, as if he hadn't even noticed you. Deciding to ignore that crazy night, you turned around.
As you disappeared down the street, you whispered to yourself once again.
"Ravens don't blink."
Oh, but if you only knew that they do more than blink... If you only knew...

Sanji x Reader, One Piece X Reader, Sanji X Y/N
Nami POV…
"Jinbei! Do you think you can break us free?" I yelled, hope swelling in my chest.
Jinbei tried to break the bars with his powerful technique, but it didn’t work. My heart sank. "It failed..." I muttered.
"Should’ve known, that was Montd’Or’s work," Jinbei said, analyzing the situation. Before I could lose hope, Luffy jumped right back in. "Okay! Back to Plan A!" he declared, ready to break his arms again.
"Luffy! No!" I cried out, panic rising in my voice. "Hold on, wait!" Jinbei interrupted. He held up a torch, his eyes glinting with a new plan. "These books are susceptible to fire!"
"Wait, you’re going to torch the cage... with us inside?" I yelled in disbelief.
"Just get out of the enclosure once you’re free!" Jinbei said with confidence, but I wasn’t so sure.
"But what if we can’t?!" I protested, frantically thinking of what could go wrong.
Jinbei remained calm. "It’s your only option for escape, time is running out, and the other choices aren’t that great," he said, making the situation clear.
Luffy, of course, was already all in. "Alright, go!" he shouted, a grin plastered across his face.
"That quick?! Wait! I’m not ready!" I shrieked as Jinbei set the book on fire. The flames caught instantly, and I could feel the heat rising. "No! My dress is on fire!" I screamed, watching in horror as the flames crept closer.
Luffy grabbed me quickly, pulling me out of the cage as Jinbei doused us with water. I stood there, drenched but free, trying to catch my breath. "Haha! We’re free now!" Luffy cheered triumphantly.
"Damn it..." I muttered, trying to cover myself as best as I could, my burned dress clinging to me. "Why do I feel like I’ve been through something like this before?" I grumbled, frustrated but relieved.
As I glanced around, I noticed Y/N’s satchel—still intact despite the fire. The faint violet glow and hue from before were beginning to fade. "At least these are safe," I thought with relief, clutching the bag close to me.
"You survived! Well done," Jinbei said with a proud smile as Luffy laughed heartily.
I quickly changed into another outfit, one that one of the other prisoners had handed me. "Thanks a bunch, Jinbei," I said, grateful as I adjusted the new clothes.
Suddenly, I heard a shout in the distance. "The screams came from the prison library!" yelled a soldier, alerting the others.
"We better move fast," I muttered, feeling the tension rise again.
“Damn it, I'm so weak, too hungry,” Luffy grumbled, his stomach growling in protest. Despite his exhaustion, his resolve remained as strong as ever. He turned to Jinbei, giving him a grateful look. "Anyway, Jinbei, thank you!" Luffy added, the urgency in his voice clear.
“Things are pretty bad as is, we were all tricked—Sanji included. I have to warn him!” Luffy said, his steps quickening as he headed up the stairs.
“Jinbei, take care of Nami for me.” His voice echoed down the hallway.
He turned back for a brief moment and looked at me with determination. “Nami, find Y/N and warn her!” he called, the weight of the task heavy on his shoulders.
I nodded, my heart racing as I clenched Y/N’s satchel closer to me. "I will, Luffy. You be careful, okay?" I shouted back, hoping he'd hear me as he disappeared up the stairs.
I looked at Jinbei, who nodded firmly. Time was running out. We had to find Y/N before things got any worse.
Sanji POV…
I sat next to Reiju, my mind racing as I finished recounting everything I had witnessed—from start to finish. Pudding’s deception, her cruel mockery, and how Y/N had barged in, risking everything to try and save Reiju. I even told her about Y/N’s speech, the one she gave before Pudding erased her memory.
“Think I’m lying?” I asked, my voice low but steady.
Reiju shook her head, a soft look in her eyes. “I don’t. I know you would never mislead me.” She sighed. “I was wary of Pudding, but I didn’t imagine her to be this devious.” Her gaze shifted to Y/N, still resting peacefully. “I knew there was a reason why I was quite fond of her,” Reiju said softly. “And the fact that she risked her life for me...”
“She had her suspicions of Pudding, too,” I added, remembering Y/N’s sharp instincts. “She called it a woman’s intuition.”
Reiju chuckled softly at that, but I couldn’t bring myself to smile. I looked at Y/N, her bandaged form resting so still, and my heart ached with regret. I wanted to reach out, to take her hand and feel that warmth again, but I stopped myself. I didn’t deserve to touch her—not yet.
“Will you tell her what happened? Since she’ll only remember you and Pudding being... intimate?” Reiju asked gently.
I shook my head, barely able to whisper, “No...” The words felt heavy in my throat. “I’ll tell her my feelings once more, when I’m ready again. I don’t want to make her think I’m lying just to save face. Hell Pudding erased so much of her memory that it, might overwhelm her”
I glanced at Y/N again, a soft sadness filling my chest. “Knowing her, she’ll be mad... but with her heart as big as it is, she’ll forgive me in due time.” I let out a shaky breath. “I want to do right by her, Reiju. So this is my cross to bear.”
Reiju nodded, her eyes filled with understanding. I let out a deep sigh, unable to shake the weight of everything pressing down on me. "I really screwed up," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "I thought... if I accepted the marriage, I would save my crewmates." I stared down at my hands, the guilt eating at me. "And all I needed to do was stop Y/N’s wedding to Ichiji. But that was never in the cards—it was all a ploy. Of course, I thought it would all work out if I took one for the team." I gripped my hair, frustration boiling inside me.
"They fooled our father too," Reiju said, her voice calm but laced with bitterness. "He’s a wise man, but filled with arrogance. He’s dealing with an emperor. We should have been more cautious, but... I believe that Germa should be destroyed."
I blinked at her, shocked at her resolve. "I’d like to pretend I’m ignorant and let Big Mom carry out her plan," she continued.
"Don’t be stupid, Reiju! They’ll kill you too!" I yelled, a bit too loud, causing Y/N to slightly stir in her sleep. I lowered my voice but kept the urgency. "Not only that, but they’ll still kill Y/N." My mind flashed back to all the dangers we’d faced, and the thought of Y/N being caught in that crossfire—it was unbearable.
"Leave the past where it lies," Reiju said softly. "We are beyond that. You don’t owe me a single thing. I only helped you once before."
"Y/N doesn’t owe me a single thing either," she added, her gaze turning to Y/N, who remained peaceful despite everything. "Go, find the Strawhats. Take Y/N and leave this island, Sanji."
"Like how?! I can’t do that!" I snapped, the frustration overwhelming me again. "What do you think will happen to the Baratie? Hell, what do you think will happen to King and all those people on that island that Y/N loves and cares for?! we can’t just leave them all behind!"
"Just run. Figure it out and escape. Stay here, and all of you will die," Reiju said firmly. "Sanji, you have to live—for our mother’s sake."
"Why bring her up...?" I muttered, the pain of that memory still raw.
Reiju took a deep breath and began to explain. "Our mother did everything she could to protect you quadruplets from losing your humanity. Father forced the surgery on her, but our mother... she took a toxin in an attempt to foil his plan." Reiju’s voice softened with each word, the weight of the memory evident in her tone. "It was a powerful drug, strong enough to manipulate the elements."
I could feel my heart clench. I knew our mother suffered, but I never knew the full extent.
"But for Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji, they were already showing signs of the genetic mutation," Reiju continued. "You, though... you had compassion. While mother began to show weakness, you—"
"She died because of me!" I interrupted, my voice breaking under the weight of that realization. "I caused her death!"
"Nonsense! Don’t think that way!" Reiju snapped, surprising me with the intensity of her words. "You brought our mother genuine happiness every single day. Even though she passed, her kindness still lives on in you, Sanji. She selfishly died to protect and save your humanity. You are the future she wanted to see."
Her words hit me hard, but they also brought a sense of peace—a peace I hadn’t felt in years. I sat there, trying to absorb everything she’d just told me. Our mother, the sacrifice she made, the humanity she fought to preserve in me—it wasn’t all for nothing. I had to live up to that. For her, for Reiju... for Y/N.
Suddenly, a familiar voice broke through the heavy silence, groggy but unmistakable. Y/N turned to her left, blinking softly trying to adjust her vision.
"Hey, Reiju..." Y/N's soft voice cut through, and both of us turned our attention toward her. She was still waking up, her eyes half-lidded as she pushed herself up, a tired but amused smile tugging at her lips. "You should’ve seen the look on Ichiji’s face when after breakfast he asked me to have dinner with him… and it didn't go as smoothly as he planned. Her smile widened, clearly recalling the moment. Even though she was still recovering, Y/N had a knack for finding light in the darkest situations.
Y/N’s smile widened, but her eyes held a mix of hurt and confusion that made my chest tighten. Reiju gave me a subtle look—one telling me it was time to go, that she would fill Y/N in on some of the details. I trusted her, but I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that followed me as Y/N turned her attention to me.
"Sanji... come here," Y/N said softly, though her voice carried an edge I couldn’t ignore.
I hesitated for a second, but then I made my way over to her slowly, unsure of what to expect. Before I could react, she grabbed my hand with a surprising grip—and with her right hand, she punched me square on the head.
"Owww! What was that for?!" I yelled, clutching my throbbing skull.
"For what you did with Pudding!" she snapped back, her tone fiery. But just as quickly, she winced, holding her own head. "Damn it, why does it feel like I’ve been hit with a battering ram again..." she muttered, the irritation clear in her voice.
I stumbled back slightly, rubbing my head, but before I could think of getting up, Y/N pulled me into an embrace that took my breath away. Her arms wrapped around me tightly, a silent message saying, I’m glad you’re here. The warmth between us melted the tension, if only for a moment.
“You know, Sanji…” she began, her voice soft but laced with an undercurrent of pain. “I’m still hurt, and it’s going to take time for me to process everything… especially after seeing you with her, doing something so intimate.”
Her words pierced me like a dagger, and I braced myself for the worst. “You must hate me for what I did…” I whispered, struggling to meet her gaze.
Y/N held my gaze steadily, and her next words took me by surprise. “Hate is a strong word, Sanji… I should, but I don’t.” Her honesty hit me hard. In that moment, I saw the depth of pain I had caused her. Her eyes, which once sparkled with affection, now bore a weight of sorrow. The spark was flickering, but the pain remained.
“It’ll take time for me to trust you again, let alone stop being mad at you,” she said, her voice firm yet gentle. But then, to my astonishment, she pulled my head into her chest, and my hands instinctively found their way around her waist, unsure of how to respond. She kissed the top of my head, a soothing gesture that sent shivers down my spine.
“But… despite all that… I still care a lot about you. You mean a lot to me… Ji.” The nickname she had given me a while back sent my heart racing. My breath hitched as warmth flooded my chest.
“Does this mean you’ll never let me go?” I swooned, gazing up at her with wide eyes. “Ohhh, princess, I do!” I declared dramatically, imagining this moment as a proposal.
Suddenly, I felt the ground shift beneath me, my heart pounding so loud it echoed in my ears. I dropped to my knees, clutching my chest in an exaggerated show of affection. “Ohh dear ocean! What have I done to deserve this angel’s kindness?” I yelled, letting the theatrics take over.
“Now, Sanji…” Y/N started, but I cut her off, unable to contain my feelings any longer.
“I am utterly unworthy of your grace!” I continued, my voice rising to a near crescendo. “How could I ever repay you for this moment?”
The sincerity in her gaze made my heart swell, even as I realized the truth behind her words. I was still in the deep waters of her hurt, but there was a flicker of hope in her eyes that told me all was not lost.
Y/N shook her head, trying to suppress a smile. "Listen, I’m going to keep resting. You keep doing what you’re doing." With that, she pulled the covers over her head, hiding her face and stifling a laugh.
"Sanji, go..." Reiju urged, gently nudging me to pick up the basket filled with food and wine and walk out of the ward.
I turned to the left and settled into a chair just outside, feeling the weight of everything that had transpired pressing on my shoulders.
Y/N POV…
As I continued to hide under the covers, pretending to sleep, I heard a faint click at the door. My heart raced with curiosity, and I peeked out to find Reiju smiling at me. “Now, mind telling me how you and I got here?” I asked, a laugh escaping my lips despite the pain radiating through my body.
“All I remember is that I electrocuted some soldiers, and one of them shot me on the side and hit my head,” I continued, trying to piece together the fragmented memories.
“Y/N, the truth is, you were right about Pudding,” Reiju said, and my heart sank.
“I knew it!” I winced as I spoke, still feeling the dull throb in my head.
“I was weary of Pudding, so I followed her. That was when she shot me. I thought I was done for until you came breaking through her door,” Reiju explained.
“Ha!” I exclaimed, clenching my fists as both fire and electricity surged through my body, invigorating me. “These are pretty handy,” I said, feeling the rush of power before unclenching my fists.
“Not only that, but Pudding also altered your memory,” Reiju continued. My heart dropped as I processed this information. So that’s why everything is fuzzy and hazy.
“She also plans to kill you and Sanji, along with your crew and the Vinsmokes, me included,” Reiju added, her expression serious.
I looked at her, my anger bubbling to the surface. “Over my dead body am I going to allow that bitch to cause any harm. Hell, she’s going to have to fight me for round two!” I declared, the determination in my voice overshadowing the ache in my head.
“Damn it!” I muttered, wincing at the throbbing headache.
“Why did you save me?” Reiju asked, her eyes searching mine.
I turned to her and smiled. “You showed kindness to me, along with covering for me in order to memorize the library to find my captain and Nami. On top of that, I was able to get back my blade. It’s the least I could do.”
“I knew there was a reason why I was fond of you,” she said, laughing, which made me chuckle in return.
Just then, a familiar voice rang out. “Sanji!”
“That’s Luffy!” I said, a wave of relief washing over me. As I tried to get up, I winced again, looking at my injured side. “Damn, that bitch shot me good,” I muttered under my breath.
Reiju stood, and just as Luffy got closer, she pulled him into the room and locked the door behind him. Luffy turned to look at her, confusion in his eyes. “It’s you!” he exclaimed.
"Luffy…" I said, my voice shaky as my heart swelled with happiness. His familiar, carefree grin lit up the moment he saw me, and before I could even process it, he pulled me into a tight hug. The warmth of his embrace was comforting, grounding me in the chaos around us, but I couldn't help but wince as the pressure on my injured side sent a sharp jolt of pain through me.
“Y/N! I’m so glad to see you!” Luffy’s voice was full of excitement and relief, but his expression quickly shifted when he felt my reaction. He pulled back slightly, his hands still on my shoulders, and his gaze immediately zeroed in on the bandages peeking out from under my clothes.
His carefree smile faded, replaced with a look of concern that was rare to see on his usually happy face. “Who did this to you?” he asked, his voice firm and steady, but I could hear the underlying anger building.
I hesitated, not wanting to worry him even more, but the concern flooding his voice made it impossible to brush it off. “It’s nothing, Luffy. I’ve had worse,” I tried to assure him, but his eyes narrowed, not buying my deflection for a second.
“Y/N, tell me,” he insisted, his grip on my shoulders tightening just a little, his determination unwavering. "Who. Did. This."
I sighed, knowing I couldn’t hide the truth from him, not when he looked at me like that. “It was Pudding,” I admitted quietly, the words heavy as they left my lips. Luffy's eyes widened for a second, but it wasn’t long before concern turned to fury in a heartbeat.
“Pudding?!" he growled, his fists clenching at his sides. The carefree energy he usually carried vanished, replaced by a dangerous intensity that sent a chill through the air. I nodded, though I tried to stir past that conversation, since we were short on time.
“I’m glad you’re free! And Nami too?” I asked, needing to know more about my friends.
“Yup! She’s with Jinbe. She was going to look for you, but I guess I found you first, huh?” Luffy grinned, and I couldn’t help but smile back.
“Straw Hat, you’re looking for Sanji, aren’t you? He was here just a few minutes ago,” Reiju interjected.
“I need to warn Sanji,” Luffy said, his expression turning serious.
“What happened to your leg?” he asked, noticing Reiju’s injury.
“Thanks for asking, and Sanji is aware of the whole thing, as well as Y/N,” she replied, and Luffy’s eyes widened as he turned to me.
“You knew this whole time!” he yelled, his voice filled with shock.
“Hold on, Captain. I just found out her plan, as did Sanji,” I said quickly, trying to diffuse the tension.
“I tried to convince him to run away and escape with you and your crew, but he was worried about the East Blue hostages, as well as King and the others on that island,” Reiju explained, looking at me with understanding.
“He was…” I whispered, feeling a rush of concern for him.
“As well as the well-being of your crew,” she continued, her gaze steady.
“The East Blue hostages from the Baratie! Sanji’s friends are my friends, and I’ll go if they need my help! Same goes for Y/N; her friends and King are my friends!” Luffy declared, his resolve unwavering.
Hearing those words caused me to choke back a sob. “Luffy…” I said, my voice trembling with emotion. Just then, Luffy’s stomach let out a loud growl, breaking the tension in the room.
“Would you like something to eat?” Reiju offered, her tone gentle.
“I’m okay,” Luffy replied with a grin, brushing off the suggestion. “At least I don’t have to worry as much now. Sanji and Y/N know what Pudding’s up to.”
“Y/N! You ready to come with me?” Luffy asked, excitement radiating from him.
“As much as I want to, I’ve got to figure out a plan to keep my fiancée at bay for now. That way, if you do come up with a plan, we have enough time to execute it!” I explained, my mind racing with strategies.
“Just tell Nami to find me in the mirrors and to make sure she still has my weapons,” I added, a smile creeping onto my face.
“You got it!” Luffy said enthusiastically, then smashed the window as he prepared to leap into action. “I’ll find Sanji!”
“Wait, he realizes that’s the wrong way to Sanji, right?” Reiju asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
“Don’t worry about it,” I reassured her, chuckling at Luffy’s reckless spirit. “Now, I might need your help with a plan I have brewing.”
Reiju raised an eyebrow, her interest piqued. “Alright, what’s the plan?”  she asked, her tone curious but cautious.
“I need Ichiji to sleep until our wedding.,” I said, leaning in slightly. “Since Sanji’s wedding follows shortly after, that gives me enough time. I need a drug strong enough to knock him out for a few hours, allowing me to meet with the rest of the crew, plan something, and then come back before anyone notices.”
Reiju considered my words for a moment before her gaze sharpened. “Do you, by any chance, still have that drug Ichiji injected me with before?” I asked, hopeful.
Without hesitation, Reiju reached into her dress and pulled out a small vial, holding it up between her fingers. “Yes,” she said, her lips curving into a knowing smile.
I raised an eyebrow, teasing her, “You just carry this around in there, huh?”
She shrugged, unbothered by my comment. “It was precaution, just in case Pudding tried something,” she said casually.
I grinned, taking the vial from her. “Perfect. I’ll drop some of this in his glass. That should give me enough time to execute everything.”
Reiju tilted her head. “But how will this plan work exactly?”
I couldn’t help but smirk, the gears of my mind already turning. “Simple. I’ll play into his desires,” I said, a mischievous glint in my eyes. “And I already have the perfect outfit in mind.”
Reiju’s expression shifted from surprise to a slow, approving smile. “You’re bolder than I thought,” she said, leaning back slightly. “Well, let’s make sure everything goes according to plan.”
I smiled confidently. “Now all I need is the champagne and the right moment. We’ll have Ichiji out cold, and I’ll be gone before he even knows what hit him.”
.
.
.
Soon after, I found myself making my way to the sixth floor, where the Vinsmokes were staying. My heels clicked against the polished floors, creating an echo in the otherwise quiet hallway. In my hand, I held a bottle of champagne and two flute glasses. Hidden discreetly in my coat pocket was the vial from Reiju, along with my thigh halter and blade, just in case. My heart raced, not from nerves but from anticipation of executing my plan.
As I approached the door, two soldiers stationed nearby stepped forward, blocking my path. "Aren’t you supposed to be resting?" one of them asked, his eyes narrowing suspiciously.
I smiled sweetly, doing my best to mask my true intentions. “I’m just here to spend some time with my fiancé before we officially become husband and wife tomorrow,” I replied smoothly, keeping my voice light and friendly.
The soldier hesitated for a moment before stepping aside, seemingly convinced. I took a breath and knocked lightly on the door, though the rowdy noise from inside was already evident. Laughter, clinking bottles, and drunken voices filled the air.
The door swung open abruptly, revealing Yonji with a beer mug in hand. He leaned against the doorframe, smirking. “Well, well, if it isn’t my dear soon to be sister-in-law. What brings you here at this hour?” he asked, his eyes roaming over me as if assessing my presence.
I returned his smirk with one of my own, stepping closer and holding up the bottle of champagne.
I met his smirk with one of my own, stepping closer with purpose, holding up the bottle of champagne in one hand and two glasses in the other. The playful glint in my eyes wasn’t lost on him. “I came to see my fiancé,” I purred, my voice smooth and dripping with charm. “I did say I was going to see you both later, and I must admit I got a little lonely in my room.”
Yonji's eyes flickered to the bottle in my hand before trailing down the length of my body, taking in every detail, his smirk widening with each passing second. He wasn’t subtle—his gaze lingered on the way my coat jacket clung to my form, the rich red lipstick on my lips that seemed to draw him in, and the sleek ponytail that made my appearance sharp, confident, and dangerously alluring.
"Lonely, huh?" he asked, the teasing tone barely masking the intrigue in his voice. Yonji’s smirk deepened as he leaned against the doorframe, clearly enjoying the moment. “And here I thought Ichiji was keeping you well-occupied.”
I chuckled lightly, not taking the bait, and stepped even closer. “Who says he’s not?” I replied with a playful raise of my brow. “But there’s no harm in spicing things up a bit.”
“A surprise visit, huh? I like your style,” Yonji replied, his voice teasing as he stepped aside to let me in. He turned his head and called out, “Ichiji! Your fiancée is here!”
The room was thick with the scent of alcohol, and the barmaids didn’t even flinch at my arrival, still occupied with flirting and pouring drinks for the men. Some of them were laughing and partaking in the festivities themselves, drinking from scattered bottles as the night dragged on.
The moment I made my presence known, Ichiji’s eyes locked onto mine, his smirk widening into something more dangerous.
"Well, if it isn’t my bride-to-be," he said, his voice dripping with arrogance. He took a slow sip from his glass, his gaze never wavering. "Missed me?"
Niji let out a chuckle, raising his own glass in amusement. "Looks like someone’s eager," he teased.
I met Ichiji’s gaze with a teasing smile of my own, though the tension between us was unmistakable. "To tell you the truth," I began, keeping my voice smooth and playful, "I was feeling a bit lonely in my room." I shifted slightly, my hands still behind my back, holding the champagne bottle and glasses. "But it seems to me you had quite the distraction." My eyes flicked to the barmaid who had her hand resting on Ichiji’s chest, her eyes filled with adoration as she gazed at him.
Ichiji glanced down at the woman, not even bothering to push her hand away. His smirk only deepened. "Just a little entertainment to pass the time," he said, his tone casual, as if the woman’s presence meant nothing. "But now that you’re here, I suppose I’m in for a real treat."
I could feel the weight of his words, the way he played with power and control, expecting me to fall in line like the rest of them. But I had my own game to play, and he had no idea what was coming. "So, I guess we won’t be finishing up what we started back at dinner before Yonji interrupted, huh?" I tilted my head, allowing a playful smile to dance on my lips.
Before Ichiji could respond, Yonji draped his arm over my shoulder, drink in hand, laughing. "You mean saving you from whatever the hell that was!" he joked, a mischievous glint in his eye.
"Never knew I needed saving," I shot back, shrugging his arm off my shoulder gently, my attention shifting back to Ichiji. He looked at Yonji, sending him a glare that was both warning and annoyed, as if silently commanding him to silence himself. But Yonji, oblivious to the tension, continued to drink, grinning like he owned the place.
“Hey, princess, mind sharing some of that champagne?” Niji chimed in, standing up and reaching for the bottl e with a greedy look.
I raised an eyebrow, my smile unwavering as I held the bottle of champagne tighter, emphasizing the exclusivity of the moment. “No can do,” I said smoothly, stepping closer to Ichiji with deliberate intent. “This is meant only for Ichiji and I.” My tone dripped with finality, and the way I held the bottle protectively against my chest sent a clear message to everyone else in the room—this wasn’t for them.
The atmosphere thickened, the tension palpable as the barmaids exchanged glances, their giggles a quiet but persistent background noise to the unfolding scene. They were watching like spectators at a game of cat and mouse, eager to see who would win, who would bend.
“But…” I added, my voice soft but teasing, “if Ichiji doesn’t want to spend some time before our wedding, then I guess I’ll just return to my room.” I turned around dramatically, my coat flaring with the motion as I threw the words over my shoulder, letting them hang in the air like a challenge.
The room seemed to hold its breath for a moment, but before I could take another step, I felt a firm grip on my wrist, halting me in my tracks. I smirked, already knowing who it was without having to look back.
“And just where do you think you’re going?” Ichiji’s voice was low, laced with amusement but carrying a clear edge of dominance. He tugged on my wrist, pulling me back toward him, forcing me to face him. His eyes glimmered with that dangerous mixture of arrogance and intrigue, his smirk widening as he saw the challenge still lingering in my own expression.
I didn’t pull away. Instead, I let him draw me closer, my free hand coming up to rest lightly against his chest. My fingers trailed slowly down the fabric of his shirt, my touch featherlight but deliberate, as if testing the boundaries of his composure. “I’m not going anywhere,” I replied, my voice soft yet defiant, a quiet promise in the midst of the storm brewing between us.
Ichiji’s eyes darkened, the playful glint giving way to something more intense, more possessive. His grip on my wrist tightened, but it wasn’t painful—just enough to remind me of the power he thought he held over me. But I wasn’t one to submit so easily.
The tension between us crackled like electricity in the air, and I could feel the weight of anticipation pressing down on both of us, the stakes rising with every heartbeat. The room around us seemed to fade away, the other voices becoming background noise as we became locked in this silent battle of wills.
Leaning in closer, I let my lips brush the shell of his ear, my breath warm against his skin as I whispered, “Why don’t we celebrate in a more private setting?” The invitation was clear, but it was more than that—it was a dare. “I want you to show me that lesson you had in store for me,” I continued, my voice sultry and laced with seduction. Before he could respond, I pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, just enough to feel the way his body tensed beneath my touch, like a predator ready to pounce.
His grip on my wrist moved to my waist, pulling me flush against him as his gaze bore into mine with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. “Be careful what you wish for,” he murmured, his voice a low growl, full of promise and danger. “You might not be able to handle it.”
My heart raced in response, but I didn’t falter. “Try me,” I replied, my voice unwavering, a wicked smile playing on my lips. This was the game we played—pushing, teasing, testing each other’s limits, neither one willing to back down.
“Damn, this is getting spicy,” Niji’s voice broke through the tension like a sudden spark, his teasing grin spreading as he leaned against the bar, watching the exchange with clear amusement. “Ichiji, are you sure you can handle her? She might just burn the place down!”
Yonji laughed, clearly enjoying the spectacle as well. “Better make sure you keep that door locked, or we might just crash your party!” he added with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I want to see how she handles you, Ichiji.”
Ichiji’s eyes flicked toward his brothers, his expression momentarily darkening with annoyance. But when he looked back at me, the smirk returned, more dangerous than ever. “Don’t worry about them,” he said, his voice smooth as silk but with an edge that made it clear he wasn’t joking. “They wouldn’t dare interfere. This… is between us.”
I arched a brow, still playing along, but there was something in his tone that sent a thrill of excitement racing through me. He wasn’t just talking about this moment; he was staking his claim, making it clear that I was his in this twisted game we played. But I wasn’t about to let him have all the control.
“Well,” I replied, my voice dripping with honeyed defiance, “you better make it worth my while, then.”
Ichiji’s smirk deepened, his grip on my waist tightening as he leaned in closer, his breath hot against my skin. “Oh, I will,” he whispered, the promise in his voice sending a shiver of anticipation down my spine. The heat radiating from him enveloped me, drawing me in as if we were the only two people in the room.
The atmosphere thickened with tension, the rest of the world fading into a distant blur as our eyes locked. The playful banter around us became mere background noise, but I could feel the weight of his possessiveness, the way he wanted to claim me, to show me who was in control. And despite the thrill that coursed through me, I had no intention of making it easy for him.
“Why don’t we continue this in your room?” I suggested, my voice sultry and laced with temptation, a sly smile curling my lips. “Let’s celebrate our union a day early.” I held his gaze, refusing to look away, letting the challenge linger in the air between us.
Ichiji’s eyes darkened with a mix of intrigue and desire, and I could see the gears turning in his mind as he processed my words. “Are you trying to make a fool of me?” he replied, a teasing lilt in his voice, but the possessive glint in his eyes betrayed his eagerness. “You’re the one who came here, after all. What if I don’t want to share you with anyone tonight?”
My eyes still locked on his, I leaned in slightly, letting the tension build between us. “I wouldn’t want you to share me,” I said, my voice a low murmur that felt like a secret just for him. “I want you all to myself.” The words hung in the air, heavy with meaning, and I could see the effect they had on him as Niji dropped his drink in surprise, both of us momentarily turning to glance at him.
But my focus was solely on Ichiji. “I mean it, Ichiji. Especially after what was left of dinner…” I let the words trail off, a teasing smile playing on my lips. “I want you. I want you in every way a man like you wants a woman like me.”
The heat in the room intensified, and Ichiji’s breath caught slightly as his eyes flared with raw hunger. “You have no idea what you’re asking for,” he warned, his voice low and edged with a primal urgency. He took a step closer, his presence overwhelming, radiating a need that matched my own.
“I do actually,” I replied, leaning in, letting my lips almost graze his. “I’m asking for a night with my soon-to-be husband to explore the dangerous ways he knows how to indulge with his soon-to-be wife.” I emphasized the words, letting them hang in the air, igniting the tension that crackled between us. “I want you to take me to the depths of pleasure only you know.”
His gaze was unwavering, the intensity in his eyes sending a thrill through me. He stepped closer, his fingers grazing along my jaw, and leaned in, his voice a low murmur. "You think you can handle all of me?" His tone was rich with both challenge and promise. “Because once we start, I’m not holding back. Every whisper, every gasp, every moan—I’ll make sure you remember them.”
I raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at my lips. "Please," I replied, matching his intensity. "I don’t need you to go easy on me. I want everything. I want the world to know exactly what you do to me." My hand slid up his chest, feeling his heartbeat quicken under my touch. "I want to hear you growl my name, Tiger, until there’s no doubt about what you make me feel."
A low chuckle escaped him, dark and dangerously tempting. “Then be careful what you wish for, because I can be relentless." He tilted my chin up, his fingers brushing down the side of my neck. "You’ll be gasping for more, and I won’t stop until you’re pleading for mercy." His lips hovered just a breath away from mine, teasing, torturing.
I leaned into him, my voice a playful whisper. "That depends entirely on what position you put me in," I murmured, letting the words hang between us. "I’m quite… flexible."
His eyes flashed with a hungry glint, his hands sliding to my hips, pulling me flush against him. "Flexible, huh?" he drawled, his voice thick with anticipation. “Good. Because I don’t intend to let you go until I’ve had my fill."
“But let’s not waste any more time.” I leaned in, my voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “I wanted to get through with this to secretly meet my crew.” I thought
Ichiji’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he considered my words. “Then let’s go,” he said, the decisive tone leaving no room for argument as he took my hand, leading the way to his room
As we stood in front of his door, my heart raced with anticipation. Just as I reached for the handle, Ichiji surprised me by throwing me over his shoulder, the champagne and two flutes still in hand, along with the vial and my blade tucked safely in the pocket of his coat.
“Hey!” I squealed, laughter bubbling up as I adjusted to my new position. “Is this how you plan to carry me into the night?”
“Absolutely,” he replied, a playful edge to his voice. “What kind of groom would I be if I didn’t sweep you off your feet?”
“Just remember, if you drop me, you’re in big trouble,” I teased, feigning indignation, but my laughter was infectious.
“Trust me, I won’t let you fall,” he promised, his tone serious yet playful. He kicked the door open with his foot, striding into the room confidently. After a brief moment, he quickly set me down to lock the door, and I took the opportunity to explore the space.
Ichiji’s room was adorned with satin sheets that gleamed in the soft light, a small kitchen area tucked away, and a large mirror greeting me as I stepped further in. Perfect, I thought, excitement bubbling within me.
As I made my way toward the kitchen aisle, Ichiji spun me around, pulling me close and kissing me hungrily. I hooked my arm around his neck, my heart racing as our lips moved together. But just as things were heating up, he began to fumble with my coat, trying to open it.
I laughed, pulling away playfully. “Why don’t you make yourself comfortable in bed while I open this up for us?” I suggested a teasing smile on my lips.
Ichiji eagerly nodded, his gaze burning with desire as he turned around and made his way toward the bed. I took a moment to admire the way he moved, the anticipation hanging thick in the air.
I placed the glasses and the bottle of champagne on the kitchen aisle before I pulled out the sleep vial from one of my coat pockets. Quickly, I opened the cork and poured a generous amount into his glass, closing it swiftly and returning it to my pocket. With the bottle of champagne in hand, I uncorked it, the fizz spraying out and hitting my skin.
“Oops!” I laughed, turning to see Ichiji already removing his shirt and pants, his toned physique illuminated by the soft glow of the room. I poured generous amounts of champagne into both glasses, savoring the moment.
With a playful smirk, I grabbed the bottle and sashayed my hips as I approached him, handing it to him. “Hold, please,” I instructed, my voice low and sultry.
Ichiji took the bottle, his eyes darkening with desire as I reached for our glasses. I handed him his, the warmth of his hand brushing against mine, sending a thrill through me. I slowly sipped from my champagne glass, feeling the bubbles dance on my tongue, while Ichiji mirrored my movements, his gaze locked onto mine with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine.
With a playful grin, I grabbed the bottle and set it beside the bed before taking his hand, our fingers intertwining. “Cheers, to a memorable night,” I declared, our glasses clinking together before we both downed the champagne in one swift motion.
“Looks like we’ll need another refill, huh?” I laughed, the excitement bubbling inside me. Without warning, Ichiji threw his glass against the wall, the sound of shattering glass echoing through the room.
I raised an eyebrow at his reckless abandon but couldn’t help the smile that crept onto my lips. As he reached for me, I placed my glass down, my heart racing as I made my way up slowly, teasing him with my movements.
“Why don’t we take this off?” I suggested, my voice low and inviting as I untied my coat. The fabric slipped from my shoulders, revealing the black lace underneath.
Ichiji’s eyes widened, raking over my figure with a hunger that made my pulse quicken. “Black lace…” he murmured, his hands ghosting over the delicate fabric, igniting sparks of electricity across my skin. I could feel the heat radiating from him, and it sent a thrill of anticipation coursing through me. “I thought it fit the theme… you don’t like it?” I said in a sweet, teasing tone, feigning innocence as I glanced up at him through my lashes.
Ichiji’s eyes darkened, a primal hunger flickering in his gaze as he took a step closer, closing the space between us. “Like it? No, Y/N. I don’t just like it,” he said, his voice low and filled with a raw, unrestrained desire. “I crave it. I want to feel every inch of you, to taste that fiery spirit of yours that makes me lose control.”
His words sent shivers down my spine, and I felt a flush of heat creep across my cheeks. The intensity of his gaze held me captive, and I could see the hunger burning in his eyes—a hunger that mirrored my own.
“You have no idea how hard it is to resist you right now,” he continued, his hands inching up to my waist, fingers grazing my skin through the delicate lace. “Every second that passes just makes me want you more. You’re driving me wild.” Ichiji then began to place kisses on my neck, causing me to sigh in delight.
His fingers trailed lower, teasing my core, and a gasp escaped my lips as I fought to catch my breath. “Ichiji…” I whispered again, my voice trembling with anticipation and desire. The way he touched me sent jolts of electricity coursing through my body, igniting a fire within that I could no longer contain. “Just like that.” I whispered as Ichiji continued, to tease my core through my panties. My hand went to grab his wrist, but Ichiji grabbed it, putting it behind my back. “Do you really want me to stop” smirked Ichiji as he continued to tease. “No” I said in a breathy moan. “Focus on the mission y/n!” I thought.
Ichiji then looked deep into my eyes, searching for permission, and the intensity of his gaze made my heart race even faster. “Tell me what you want, Y/N,” he urged, his voice a low, sultry whisper that wrapped around me like a warm embrace. “I need to hear it.”
“I want you,” I breathed, my voice trembling just enough to sound genuine, the words laced with a mix of eagerness and vulnerability. “I want you to take me. I want you in all the ways I’ve imagined us together—this moment, right here, right now.” My breath hitched as I leaned into his touch, the deliberate tilt of my head back to sell the role.
Ichiji’s eyes darkened with desire, he let go of my wrist from behind my back and grabbed my waist, tightening it  as he pulled me flush against him. “You’re intoxicating,” he murmured, his lips beginning to trail down my jawline and back to the sensitive spot on my neck, where his teeth grazed lightly before pressing a kiss that left me shivering. “Every word, every move you make... it’s like you’re daring me to lose control.”
I let out a soft, breathless laugh, threading my fingers through his hair as I tilted my head back, feigning surrender. “Maybe I am,” I whispered, my voice dripping with seduction, though my mind remained focused. Just a little longer until the drug takes effect, I thought, my heart pounding from the gamble I was taking.
His hands roamed my sides with deliberate intent, the slow, possessive glide of his fingers igniting a dangerous heat between us. They traced the curve of my hips, lingering just enough to make me gasp softly, before sliding up the small of my back. Each touch sent a shiver through me, blurring the line between the part I was playing and the reality of his desire. He pulled me closer, the distance between us vanishing as our bodies pressed flush together.
“You’ve thought about this moment,” he said, his voice a low, gravelly murmur that seemed to reverberate through the air around us. His lips hovered tantalizingly close to mine, his breath warm against my skin. His eyes, sharp and searching, burned with a mixture of intrigue and hunger. “Tell me,” he pressed, his tone both commanding and coaxing, “how you imagined it.”
My lips parted, drawing in a shaky breath as I raised my gaze to meet his, letting a flicker of vulnerability soften my expression. “I imagined this,” I replied, my voice soft yet steady, laced with just enough longing to make it convincing. My fingers trailed up his chest, pausing at his collar before brushing against the side of his neck. “I imagined the way your touch would feel—how it would ignite something inside me. I thought about how it would feel to have you lose control, to see you come undone because of me.”
With a primal growl, Ichiji’s restraint snapped. His hands gripped my waist firmly, pulling me flush against him, leaving no room for doubt or hesitation. The sheer strength in his movements sent a jolt through me as his lips descended on mine, capturing them in a kiss that was raw, demanding, and unapologetically fierce. His breath was hot against my skin as he moved, trailing kisses down to the hollow of my neck.
“You have no idea what you’ve just unleashed,” he growled against my ear, his voice rough with desire. His words sent a shiver racing down my spine as his teeth grazed the sensitive skin at the base of my neck, followed by the soothing heat of his lips. My breath hitched involuntarily, my body reacting to the intensity he poured into every touch, every movement.
His hands roamed up my back, fingers splayed as though to anchor me in place, while his other hand drifted to my thigh, pulling me impossibly closer. “Tell me,” he whispered, his voice a velvet rasp, “did you imagine me like this—devouring every inch of you?”
I allowed my fingers to thread through his hair, tugging slightly to tilt his head back, forcing his burning gaze to meet mine. “I imagined you exactly like this,” I whispered, my tone a perfect blend of sultry and inviting. “I wanted you like this—unrestrained, wanting me as much as I want you.”
In one swift motion, he lifted me effortlessly, carrying me to the bed adorned with satin sheets. I took off his glasses and tossed them aside, noticing a smirk tugging at his lips, but his eyes began to blink, focusing on regaining his vision. Seizing the opportunity, I swiftly switched our positions, pinning him beneath me.
As I began to plant soft kisses along his chest and neck, I could feel his body react to my touch. “Princess…” he groaned, tilting his head back to grant me better access, his voice thick with desire. I couldn't help but tease him further, rolling my hips against him, feeling the way he shivered in delight beneath me.
“I want you to moan out loud what you want, tiger,” I said, my breath hot against his skin as I continued to kiss his neck, seeking out that sweet spot that made him squirm.
“Ahhh!” he groaned, the sound raw and guttural, echoing through the room. His hands gripped my hips like a lifeline, pulling me flush against him as he arched toward me, his need evident in every strained movement. His fiery red gaze met mine, burning with an insatiable hunger that threatened to consume us both.
“Y/N,” he murmured, his voice cracking under the weight of his desire. “Please…”
I smirked, leaning forward just enough to brush my lips against his ear, letting my breath ghost over his skin. “Come on, tiger,” I teased, my voice dripping with sultry confidence as I rolled my hips deliberately against him, drawing another involuntary groan from his lips. “Be a good boy and tell me what you want.”
He shuddered beneath me, his composure slipping further with each passing second. His hands slid from my hips to my thighs, fingers digging into the soft flesh as though grounding himself. “I want you,” he finally growled, his tone both pleading and commanding, his control hanging by a thread. “I want all of you—no games, no distance. Just…you.”
Ichiji's raw desperation electrified the air between us, his grip on my thighs tightening as though he feared I might slip away. His fiery red gaze locked onto mine, blazing with a primal hunger that sent a delicious shiver coursing down my spine. His vulnerability, laid bare in that single plea, sent a thrill of power surging through me.
I grinned against his neck, dragging my lips lower, letting the faint graze of my teeth leave a trail of heat along his skin. My fingers danced lightly along his sides, teasingly tracing the contours of his lean frame. Every touch elicited a new gasp or groan, his body trembling under the weight of his restraint.
“You’re making this too easy, Ichiji,” I murmured, my voice dripping with playful seduction. My lips hovered just above his collarbone, brushing against it as I spoke, feeling the rapid thrum of his pulse beneath my touch. “Are you always this impatient?”
“Damn it,” he growled, his hands flexing against my thighs as his frustration boiled over. “Just…don’t tease me!” His voice cracked slightly, a mix of command and plea that made my grin widen. “I want you—now.”
I chuckled softly, noticing the way his eyelids were growing heavy, a telltale sign that he was beginning to succumb to sleep. Bingo! It’s working, I thought with a mischievous grin.
I continued to tease him, a playful glint in my eyes as I took his hands and dragged them over my body, finally placing them to rest on my bra. “Would you be a dear and hold still?” I asked sweetly, my voice low and sultry.
As I began to unhook the bra, I let the straps fall slowly, reveling in the way his breath hitched at the sight. “That’s it, Ichiji,” I purred, leaning in closer, letting him feel the warmth radiating off me. “Soon, you will have everything you’ve desired.”
I slowly rolled my hips again, feeling him sink deeper into the mattress beneath me. “What’s wrong?” I teased, grabbing my discarded bra and tossing it aside, his hands firmly resting on my breasts.
Ichiji soon bucked his hips, trying to get more friction, causing a soft moan to escape my lips. I could feel the heat radiating off his body, but I needed to stay focused on my mission. However, as I began to notice Ichiji's hands slowly slipping from their grip, I decided it was time to switch things up.
I stood up from my position, a soft whine leaving his lips, and sauntered over to grab the bottle of champagne once more. “You know, tiger,” I said with a sly smile, “you look so good right now.” I poured some of the champagne over him, the cold liquid mixing with his warmth, and he moaned in delight.
“I wonder how good you taste,” I murmured, leaning down to lick the champagne from his chest, savoring the flavor of both the drink and the man beneath me. The sweet tang of the champagne mixed with the salty taste of his skin, creating a heady combination that sent a thrill down my spine. I continued to trace teasing licks on his chest, going lower towards his defined abs.
“Y/N…” he groaned, his eyes dark with desire. “You’re killing me.”
With a sudden surge of energy, Ichiji flipped me over, pinning me beneath him as the champagne bottle clattered to the floor, rolling away unnoticed. His hands gripped my wrists, holding them firmly above my head as he leaned down, his face hovering just inches from mine. His breath was hot against my lips, and his crimson eyes burned with intensity.
“You really think you can tease me like that and get away with it?” he growled, his voice rough and low, sending a thrill through me.
I smirked up at him, maintaining my confident demeanor despite the rapid beating of my heart. “Come on, tiger,” I whispered, my voice dripping with challenge. “Show me how serious you are.”
His grin widened, predatory and wicked, as he captured my lips in a kiss that was as much a battle as it was a surrender. Heat surged between us as his lips moved against mine, hungry and demanding. His grip on my wrists loosened just enough for me to slide my hands free, trailing them down his chest and feeling the hard contours of his muscles beneath the fabric of his shirt.
He groaned against my mouth, his hands moving to my waist and pulling me closer, his fingers digging into my sides as though trying to ground himself in the chaos of the moment. I rolled my hips against him, eliciting a sharp intake of breath from him that fueled my confidence further.
“You’re driving me crazy,” he muttered against my lips, his voice raw with need. His hands roamed over my body, exploring every curve, every inch, as though he couldn’t get enough.
I tilted my head back, giving him access to my neck, and he took the invitation eagerly, his lips and teeth grazing my skin in a way that sent shivers down my spine. “I’ve thought about this,” he admitted, his voice thick with desire. “Thought about you. Wanting you. And now that I have you—”
He paused, his movements faltering slightly. His breaths came slower, his grip on my waist loosening as his body began to betray him. I opened my eyes and glanced at him, watching the subtle change as the drug I had slipped into the champagne took effect.
“Ichiji?” I said softly, feigning concern as I gently cupped his cheek. His crimson eyes blinked sluggishly, the fire in them dimming as exhaustion overtook him. “Are you okay?”
“I… I’m fine,” he muttered, though his voice was unsteady. He shook his head, as if trying to clear the fog that was quickly enveloping him. “Just... tired, all of a sudden…”
I brushed my fingers through his hair, leaning in as if to comfort him. “Shh, it’s okay,” I whispered, my lips grazing his ear. “Just rest. I’ll take care of everything.”
He rested beside me, his breathing slow and controlled, and I couldn’t help but smirk. “Sweet dreams, fiancé,” I whispered, feeling a sense of triumph wash over me as phase one was complete. I got up and made my way to where my coat lay crumpled on the floor. Grabbing my thigh holster and blade, I secured them on my right thigh, feeling the familiar surge of power return.
With a swift motion, I wrapped my coat around me again, tightening the ties to ensure I was ready for action. Approaching the mirror, I took a moment to assess my appearance. I redid my ponytail, ensuring every strand was in place, and fixed the edges of my lips, which were subtly smeared from earlier. Just as I was admiring my reflection, I caught sight of two familiar figures in the glass—Nami and Chopper.
“Y/N!” they yelled in unison, their faces lighting up with excitement.
I smiled back, relieved and amused. “It’s about time you found me,” I laughed as they dragged me into the mirror world.
Once inside, I glanced back at Ichiji, still peacefully asleep, his chest rising and falling steadily. For a brief moment, guilt crept into my mind, but I quickly pushed it aside. There was no time for second thoughts—I had work to do. As soon as I stepped in, my eyes caught Nami, now wearing a sleek jumpsuit compared to the dress she had on earlier.
"Nami, what...?" I started, but she shook her head with a small sigh.
"It's a long story," she said, brushing it off as if she’d seen too much already for one night. “What about you?” she said smirking. “Its a long story too.” I said laughing.
My gaze shifted, and to my surprise, I saw a familiar, comforting face.
"Jinbei!" I exclaimed with joy, rushing over to hug him. He returned the embrace, his deep, hearty laugh bringing a sense of warmth I hadn’t felt in a while.
"It's so good to see you," I added as I pulled away. Then I saw Carrot, Chopper, Pedro, Brulee, and that odd train guy who had clearly gotten mixed up in this chaos.
"Alright, where’s Brook?" I asked, scanning the group, realizing someone was missing.
"The mirrors mentioned that he was captured by Big Mom," Jinbei said, his voice somber.
"Damn, that's not good," I muttered, gripping my ponytail in frustration. Brook being captured was going to complicate things even further.
Nami interrupted my thoughts by tossing me my satchel. "Oh, Y/N, by the way, here."
I caught it, opening it up to find my second blade, my sword, and Zoro's bandana nestled inside. Relief washed over me as I grabbed the second blade, sliding it back into the thigh halter. As soon as the blades were reunited, a faint electric hue crackled around me, responding to their connection. I crossed the satchel over me, my sword still inside.
I tied Zoro's bandana around my head, the familiar fabric giving me a sense of comfort and focus. "Thanks for taking care of these," I said sincerely, glancing at Nami.
Nami raised a brow. "I do want to know why the blade was glowing even though you weren’t near it."
I smiled at her curiosity. "When I separated the blades, keeping only one with me, the other acts as if I'm still connected to it. My energy transfers through the blade, no matter where it is. I also set it to act as protection in case anyone tried anything, and well if someone were to take my things, they would get a surprise.” I said, smirking.
Nami nodded thoughtfully. "That’s... pretty impressive."
I shrugged, adjusting the bandana once more.
“There’s a lot more these blades can do, and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface,” I said, glancing at the electric glow around my reunited weapons. The sense of untapped potential simmered beneath the surface, almost begging to be explored. But there was no time for that now.
Brulee, tied up and visibly frustrated, spat venomous words at Jinbei. “How dare you betray Big Mom, you spineless coward! You were given the choice to spin the roulette, and this is how you repay her?”
Jinbei remained stoic, but Pedro chimed in, his tone grim. “The game is rigged. Five years ago, my partner was given the same fate. Instead of a fair spin, his life was taken away.”
“Old hag,” I muttered under my breath, disgusted at the lengths Big Mom would go to maintain her twisted sense of control.
Brulee laughed cruelly. “The roulette is meant to kill those who try to leave. There’s no escaping Big Mom’s wrath. You’re all doomed!”
Chopper, clearly fed up, tightened the ropes binding her. “We’re wasting time! We have to hurry and find Luffy, Sanji, and Brook!”
Without further delay, we all clambered onto the train—though it was far from the most luxurious form of travel. As the train creaked and groaned under our weight, the conductor whined, “Hey, that’s not fair! You’re drastically over the weight limit!”
Carrot, ever resourceful, nipped at the conductor’s arm to get him moving. “Keep going!” she demanded, her determination evident.
The train lurched forward, albeit slowly, and we all braced ourselves. Time was running out, and we needed to regroup with the others before things spiraled even further out of control.
Brook POV..
After a fierce battle and my defeat at the hands of Big Mom, I found myself dangling helplessly in her grip. “Hmph, I owe our little friend a word of praise. He’s the first one to land a scratch on one of you,” she said, as Prometheus whined about the scar I’d given him.
I remained limp, pretending to be unconscious. It was the only way I could ensure I didn’t give anything away.
“Mama, do you plan to keep that skeleton with you?” Pudding’s voice rang out, dripping with disdain.
“That skeleton… Pudding, I’m appalled. Is that really all I am to you?” I thought, feeling a sharp sting at being so dismissed. But I remained still as Big Mom continued to dangle me like a ragdoll.
“Yes, certainly! This is a one-of-a-kind work of art, so I think I’m going to carry it around for a while,” Big Mom declared with a cackle.
“Please no… I don’t want to be her accessory,” I thought, shuddering inwardly.
“By the way, Pudding, you did a very good job yourself,” Big Mom continued. “I’m surprised the Straw Hats made it past the Seducing Woods. Even more surprised that the princess managed to make it to the engagement ceremony. But now, they’re all trapped”
My heart sank. “Luffy… Nami… Y/N…” I thought, concern for my friends.
Pudding chimed in, her voice oozing with smugness. “I know, Mama. I went to see them. It really serves them right. But that princess still annoyed me—she’s too smart to fall for my tricks.”
“Y/N was right about Pudding,” I realized bitterly.
Big Mom laughed, her booming voice shaking me. “But it serves her right for trying to act all hero and snoop around. The first time was hard enough trying to knock her out, but she’s tough to crack. The second time, though, I shot her in the side.” Said Pudding
“What did she do?!” I thought in alarm, fighting the urge to move.
“Once the wedding is over, they’re all going to die. I’ve already sent out barmaids to everyone in Germa. They’re all so intoxicated, we can slip anything past them.” Big Mom let out a satisfied grunt.
Pudding let out a satisfied sigh.“Good. But Reiju was snooping around earlier. She’s very perceptive.
Big mom then halts and eyed pudding. “You didn’t kill her or Y/N, right?”
“As much as I wanted to kill Y/N, I didn’t,” Pudding replied, her voice gleeful. “I simply shot Reiju in the leg, shot Y/N in the side, and knocked her out with the gun. Then I erased their memories. "I even added had someone knock on her door before everything and had her see what Sanji and I were doing, she was in such a shock, tears even fell from her eyes!" said pudding laughing "had to manipulate her memory so that way she still harbored anger towards Sanji.
“That devil!” I seethed internally.
“I must be mistaken somehow... all this time, Pudding, I thought you were a nice girl...” I thought, my mind reeling as Big Mom’s words confirmed everything. My body began to spin slowly, almost involuntarily, towards Pudding. How could someone so outwardly sweet be so vile inside?
Big Mom’s voice cut through the air, her grip on me tightening slightly. “Be careful, dear, you're our precious little bride after all. If both Reiju and Y/N try to get revenge, there could be a disaster,” she said, her tone laced with mock concern.
“I appreciate your concern, Mama, but thanks to them, I got a chance to practice my gun,” Pudding replied with a twisted smile, pulling out her pistol. The sight of it in her hands sent chills down my bony spine—if I had one, that is. “Even the artificially modified people of Germa, along with whatever weapons the princess may have, won’t be enough to survive this,” she added, her voice dripping with malice.
Germa... and Y/N? My skull rattled as I held back my outrage, not daring to break my facade.
Big Mom let out a booming laugh. “What a clever girl! Then again, you are my daughter. Tomorrow, your gunfire will set my genius plan into motion. I can’t wait!” she cackled with twisted glee, revealing the dark depths of her plan. “Then, when the happy couple appears, everyone’s attention will be on the kiss. But once you reveal your third eye, Sanji will see the bride for the monster she truly is. Aim the gun between his curly eyebrows and bam! The wedding guests will be stunned, and soon the people of Germa will be, too. But it will be too late—a wall of gunfire will rain down on the Vinsmokes, and that will include the princess!”
They’re planning to kill Sanji and Y/N! I thought in horror, my mind racing. This is far worse than I ever imagined.
Big Mom continued with a wicked grin, her voice dripping with malice as she dangled me in front of Pudding. “All seven Vinsmokes will lie motionless on the floor, in a pool of crimson... after they have been stripped of that useless leader, their forces and technology will be mine!” she declared, her laughter echoing through the room, sending shivers through the air.
Sanji…Y/N! My mind raced. This isn’t just an assassination—it’s a slaughter, and Y/N will be caught in the crossfire. I can't let this happen!
"Ma-ma-ma-ma!" Big Mom cackled. “With the Vinsmokes out of the way, their science will belong to me. Germa’s army will finally be under my control!”
Pudding smiled darkly, her eyes flashing with malicious glee. "And no one will even suspect what hit them. Once the shock of my third eye and the gunfire sinks in, it’ll be too late. That pathetic princess won't even have a chance to draw those fancy weapons of hers."
I have to warn them, I thought desperately. But how? I pretended to remain unconscious, biding my time. I need to find a way to escape. The others—Sanji, Y/N—they're depending on me…
Third POV…
In the dimly lit meeting room, the tension was palpable as Montd'Or, the keeper of Big Mom's library, sat at the head of the table surrounded by the Charlotte children. His fingers drummed thoughtfully on the surface as he scrutinized the wanted posters of the Straw Hats and their allies.
"Can you confirm the groom is in his room?" Montd'Or asked, his voice calm but commanding.
"Yes, sir," replied a soldier, standing at attention. "The groom is resting in his quarters."
Montd'Or gave a slight nod. "Good. We know their objective is to retrieve Vinsmoke Sanji, and that there were seven of them when Pudding lured them to the island." His gaze shifted to the wanted posters and the rough sketches laid out before him. He studied the faces of Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Y/N, alongside the sketches of Pedro and Carrot.
"Soul King, Brook, is with Mama, so he’s accounted for," Montd'Or continued, his tone methodical as he began crossing off names. "Pedro... well, he blew himself up in the third-floor courtyard. We can check those two off. That’s two down."
His eyes moved to the next names on the list, and he crossed out Carrot and Chopper’s sketches. "In the Seducing Woods, the rabbit and the raccoon were captured. So that takes care of them."
The others at the table watched as Montd'Or picked up his pen once more, the tip hovering over the last three remaining figures. He placed Luffy, Nami, and Y/N’s wanted posters front and center.
"That leaves these three," Montd'Or said, his gaze lingering on the faces of Luffy, Nami, and Y/N. "Straw Hat Luffy, Cat Burglar Nami, and the princess... Y/N." He paused, narrowing his eyes. "These three are still unaccounted for. And we know they won't stop until they’ve rescued the groom."
"We actually recieved report that the princess in with her fiancé, the other son from the Vinsmokes." said one of the soldiers.
Montd'Or’s brow furrowed as he absorbed the soldier’s report. “The princess is with her fiancé, the other Vinsmoke son?” he repeated, though skepticism laced his tone. His instincts told him that Y/N’s presence with Ichiji might not be as straightforward as it seemed.
“Hmmm…” Montd'Or stroked his chin, thinking. "I'm not entirely convinced. Send a few soldiers to the Vinsmokes' room. We can't afford to make assumptions when it comes to Y/N."
The soldier nodded and quickly exited to carry out the order. Montd'Or's sharp gaze shifted back to the posters of Luffy, Nami, and Y/N. “These three managed to beat Big Brother Cracker and then escape the Seducing Woods... Yet, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Monkey D. Luffy and Cat Burglar Nami are still inside the Prison Library. So why are we hearing rumors that they’ve escaped?”
His voice was cold and calculating as his gaze snapped toward Opera, who stood at the far end of the room, shifting uncomfortably under his brother’s scrutiny.
“Would you care to enlighten us, Big Brother Opera?" Montd'Or pressed. "I also heard Jinbei was there. What happened?"
Opera stiffened, his voice rising defensively. “I burned them to death!” he blurted out, his arms gesturing wildly. “Can’t you at least trust the word of your own brother?! I swear, I finished them off. There’s no way they could have survived that!”
Montd'Or’s eyes narrowed, his suspicion not fully eased by Opera’s outburst. “For your sake, Opera, I hope you’re telling the truth. But remember... if they did escape, that’s on you.” The tension in his voice was clear, hanging in the air like a blade ready to drop.
With a sigh, Montd'Or turned back to the room. “All of the intruders accounted for or not, the preparations are complete. Let’s focus on what’s most important now—giving our adorable sister Pudding an incredible wedding. We can’t afford distractions.”
As he gave the command, the soldiers moved to expand their surveillance across Whole Cake Island. “Expand your coverage until morning,” Montd'Or ordered sternly. “I want eyes everywhere. No one slips through the cracks. Not Luffy, not Nami, and especially not the princess."
The soldiers saluted and dispersed swiftly to cover every corner of the castle. Montd'Or remained, staring intently at the wanted posters. They’ve gotten this far... but we won’t let them interfere with Mama’s plans.
Sanji POV…
I sat down quietly, my mind racing, trying to figure out a way to save everyone. Reiju's words still weighed heavily on me, her voice echoing in my thoughts.
"Go find the Straw Hats. Take Y/N and leave this island, Sanji."
Her firm command rattled me. “Like how?! I can’t do that!” I snapped out loud, frustration clawing at my chest. It felt like I was being suffocated by the impossible choices before me.
What do you think will happen to the Baratie? Hell, what do you think will happen to King and all those people on that island that Y/N loves and cares for?! I can’t just leave them all behind!
"Just run. Figure it out and escape. Stay here, and all of you will die," Reiju had said firmly.
Her words rang in my mind, louder each time I replayed them, and I gripped my hair in frustration. "What do I do?" I muttered under my breath. It felt like the weight of the entire world was pressing down on me. I opened the basket sitting beside me and sighed, realizing something as I took out the bento box.
"Wait a minute... did I really cook this for Pudding?" I said, staring at the contents in disbelief. “Man, what was I thinking?”
As I began to look at the carefully prepared food, something dawned on me. I hadn’t made this with Pudding in mind at all. Each meal inside the box was meant for my crew—Nami’s favorite tangerines, Chopper’s chocolate treats, sandwiches for Robin, Luffy’s beloved mountain of meat, and even meals for Zoro, Usopp, Franky, and Brook. But the one dish that pulled me into a daze was Y/N’s.
I stared at her portion, the scent of it filling my nostrils. Her favorite: pasta with extra cream sauce, adorned with bits of meat and bacon, just the way she liked it. Even the wine bottle sitting beside it was one of her favorites. The memories of when I made this dish flashed in my mind.
Flashback...
I was in the kitchen, meticulously preparing everything for the crew. The scent of sizzling bacon and the richness of the cream sauce filled the air as I stirred the pot, adding the final touches to the pasta I was making for Y/N.
I had just placed her plate down when Zoro barged in, his eyes zeroing in on the dish I’d just finished.
“Hey!, cook! Where's my meal?!" he demanded, arms crossed over his chest. His impatience always grated on my nerves.
I grit my teeth, turning to him with a scowl. "Your meal? You’ll get it when I’m done with the others, you moss-headed swordsman! Don’t rush me!"
Zoro smirked, leaning lazily against the doorframe. “Seems like you already finished someone’s plate. What’s so special about that one, huh?”
Before I could retort, Y/N appeared, slipping into the kitchen with a bright smile. She made a beeline for her plate and took a seat. "Can you believe it? Sanji made my favorite pasta!" she exclaimed happily.
Her smile practically made the room shine brighter, and for a moment, I forgot all about the moss-head’s irritating presence. "He even got it down to a T! It’s perfect!" she added, her excitement contagious as she twirled a forkful of pasta.
I couldn’t help but smile back. "Anything for you, Y/N," I said smoothly, leaning against the counter.
But then, Zoro, the mosshead, sauntered over and plopped down next to Y/N, his gaze fixed on her plate with a wicked grin. "Hey, Y/N, mind if I have a bite?" Before she could respond, he snatched the fork from her hand, plopping the food into his mouth while maintaining eye contact with her. She blushed slightly, caught off guard by his sudden boldness.
"Not bad," he said, swallowing the bite, then casually handed the fork back to her, a triumphant smirk plastered on his face. Y/N shook her head and laughed, clearly amused despite the cheeky interruption.
"Not bad," Zoro repeated, his smirk widening as he shot me a smug look. "The cook actually knows what he’s doing."
I felt irritation bubbling inside me, my fists clenching at my sides. The mosshead always knew how to get under my skin, but this—this was a whole new level of audacity.
Before I could snap back at him, Y/N playfully swatted Zoro in the chest. "Don’t be rude," she scolded, laughter dancing in her eyes. "Besides, it's a dish he made for me, right, Sanji?"
Her teasing smile instantly melted away my frustration, and I grinned back at her, all my irritation forgotten in an instant. "That's right, Y/N-chan," I said smoothly, flipping my hair as if I were on stage. "I made it just for you, with all the love and care in the world."
Zoro rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a smirk. "Tch, you really know how to lay it on thick, don’t you, curly-brow?"
End of Flashback…
I snapped back to the present, the warm memory fading as the reality of my situation sank in. I closed the basket tightly, gripping the handle so hard my knuckles turned white. "I made all their favorites out of habit," I muttered to myself, the weight of everything pressing down on me. My head fell into my hands as I tried to push the thoughts away.
"Forget them... you have to." The words echoed in my mind, but the more I thought about it, the harder it became. I don’t have to worry about Luffy and the others. They'll find a way out, like they always do. But Y/N... I can’t let her marry Ichiji. I don’t care about the Vinsmokes. I can die with them, but Y/N... for her to be bound to this cruel fate, to die with them too?
My thoughts swirled, chaotic and relentless. Even if my life was short, it was a fulfilling one, I thought bitterly. But that didn’t change the fact that Y/N was caught in this nightmare with me. And Luffy… he wouldn’t stop. He wouldn’t move. He promised he’d stay in that spot until I came back to him.
Suddenly, a soldier from Big Mom’s army interrupted my spiral of thoughts, reaching for one of the meat dishes meant for Luffy. "Ohh, food..." one of Big Moms children mumbled, grabbing the piece of meat.
Something inside me snapped.
"Hey, wait a second—are you Sanji Vinsmoke? Montdour said you were asleep in your room."
Without thinking, I lashed out. "Get your hands off!" I shouted, sending him flying into the wall with a single kick. "That food... is not for you!"
I stood there, chest heaving, realization dawning on me as I stared at the unconscious soldier. What the hell did I just do?
My body moved on its own. I grabbed the basket and ran, my heart pounding as my feet carried me faster than I could think. What the hell am I doing? I thought, feeling the panic rise. But my feet kept moving, and before I knew it, I was heading straight to where Luffy had said he wouldn’t move.
To the spot where he was waiting for me
