Here are my updated recommendations for the best Usenet Provider:
Newshosting is a reliable provider with excellent download speeds
If you’d prefer an independent provider based in Europe, I recommend:
Tweaknews (more details)
XS News (more details)
See also this article that discusses all the Usenet backbones.
I do not recommend these providers:
UsenetBucket (poor customer service, clunky interface)
Astraweb (doesn’t respond to emails, poor customer service)
Giganews (overpriced for the service offered)
To achieve Usenet nirvana, I recommend using SABnzbd as your client (see my The Best Usenet Clients article) and a good Usenet index (see my article The Best Usenet Indexes).
The NZB Unity add-on for Firefox also makes downloading easier. On Chrome browsers, you can use SABconnect++.
Getting More Coverage: Using Backup Providers
The power users tend to use two providers — a primary provider and a backup provider. The reason for this is that some files might be missing from the primary provider so the backup provider will fill in the missing file. The backup account can be a block account if you like. Block accounts are a one-time charge. The price is based on the number of gigabytes (GB) available for download.
For your backup account to be effective, you need your backup provider to pull from a separate Usenet backbone.
Here are my recommended combinations of providers:
Newshosting (USA + Europe, Omicron backbone) + XS News (European provider, Abavia backbone)
UsenetExpress (USA + Europe, UsenetExpress backbone) + Tweaknews (European provider, Omicron backbone)
See instructions here on how to add the backup provider in SabNZBd.
Created in 1979, Usenet is one of the originally distributed networks. Still widely used today, the Usenet contains a vast number of media files and articles!
Usenet users upload every type of media file (movies, TV shows, music, and e-books). In its 30-year history, no one has ever been sued for downloading anything from the Usenet.
In 2004, a site called Newzbin started indexing the files available on Usenet and created the NZB file format. An NZB file is the Usenet equivalent of a torrent file. An NZB file that contains a pointer to files available on Usenet.
To get started with Usenet, you need to pay for Usenet access from a provider. You can expect to pay about $10-$20 monthly for access.
Advantages of Usenet
Encourages users to download (leech)
Direct downloading as opposed to waiting for seeders
It uses the total bandwidth of your internet connection
It uses SSL to encrypt data being sent to your computer
There are four main features to look for when choosing a provider:
Data Retention (how far their Usenet archive goes back — 1200 days is average, around 2100 days is the longest you can get)
Monthly Transfer (the amount of data you can download each month — varies from 5 GB to unlimited traffic)
Connections (the number of simultaneous connections you can make at a single time through your account — around 10-15 is fine unless you have a 100Mbps connection)
Secure Connections (you may want a provider that provides SSL connections, so you can’t be snooped on)
Unlimited Usenet Access With No Frills: UsenetExpress
UsenetExpress is a good choice if you want no-frills Usenet service and are comfortable using NZB files to initiate downloads. This service is a hybrid tier 1 service based in the US. As a hybrid provider, UsenetExpress has its own local storage, and this is supplemented by files pulled from a third-party backbone (Abavia).
I’ve been testing UsenetExpress for about four years. The price is only $7.50 monthly for 50 connections with unlimited downloads. The annual price is $90. They accept Bitcoin as a payment option.
Link: UsenetExpress
The Best European-Based Usenet Providers
Many people prefer using European providers because they offer alternative Usenet feeds and can be used to fill in missing binary files. However, note that these providers also comply with file takedowns (via NTD) requests.
Tweaknews: Comprehensive Provider In Europe
Tweaknews is a Dutch Usenet provider with some of the fastest connections in Europe. This provider charges €7 euros or $7.99 USD per month. For this, you get 40 SSL Usenet connections, with 2500-day retention. A VPN and search engine are also included.
Tweaknews offers a 10-day free trial. Using the trial account, you can download at 20 Mbps (2.5 MB/s) using 8 connections — up to a limit of 10 Gigabytes.
Tweaknews also offers block accounts, and these are pretty popular. For example, their 100GB Block Package” costs only €13 (euros). However, please note that the download speeds for the block account are capped at 100 Mpb/s.
I’ve been testing them for several months, and I’ve found their service to be reliable. From my US East Coast office, I generally get a download speed of 97 Mbps (11.4 MB/s). The company says they offer a maximum rate of 800 Mbps (100 MB/s).
The Tweaknews feed comes from Highwinds — a US-based tier-one provider in business since 2002.

Backbone: Highwinds (Omicron Media)
Retention: 2500 days

XS News: An Independent Usenet Backbone
XS News is my recommended independent European Usenet provider. This tier-one service started in 2006 and offers a genuinely independent Usenet feed.
XS News is based in Lijnden, The Netherlands, and all their servers are there.
They offer 30 connections for € 8.20 euros (about $9.70 USD) per month with a yearly subscription. Their retention time is 1100+ days.

Seriously. It WILL happen to you, it's just a matter of when. As someone who works in a computer repair shop, we get so many customers who want us to salvage things from dead or damaged drives or devices.
Sometimes we can. But it's very time consuming, and therefore, very expensive. And honestly a lot of the time it's not successful. Data can be overwritten fairly quickly and it can also become corrupted. Once a file is overwritten or corrupted, there's not much of anything we can do about it.
We've had clients lose important tax documents. Their novel, their work files, digital copies of identifying paperwork, you name it. Especially heartbreaking though are the people who lose the only photos of special events or even deceased loved ones. It's horrible, and we always do everything we can to recover anything at all, but often we can't, and we feel just awful.
So please, don't be filled with regret. Just back stuff up.
As the above says, offsite backups are best, especially in cases of fire/floods/theft/displacement/etc. I also endorse Backblaze. It's what I personally use, and the company I work for has a business account with them as well. They recently raised their prices to about $99 per year (but if you sign up before October 3rd 2023, you can get in at the old price of $70 a year at least until next year), but they're still just about the cheapest game in town for backup. They have unlimited backup, and you can even backup external drives, which many backup services charge extra for. If you need to restore data you can either download individual files from their web interface (they're working on a local restore function from their app) or you can download large zip files of your data. If you have a seriously huge amount of data, they'll even ship you an external drive with your data on it, which they charge you the cost of the drive for, but if you ship the drive back to them within 30 days, they refund you completely. I used this option a couple of years ago when I had a 10 TB external drive fail on me. They shipped me a drive of equal capacity with all my data on it, and they charged my credit card for $189 which was the exact cost of the drive on Amazon (I checked). They're not making money off this. I put the data on my own new drive and shipped their drive back and they refunded me the entire $189. It was painless. You can also just opt to keep the drive.
But I get it, some people are broke or poor, and $99 a year is too much. In that case, there are lots of file storage sites that will give you a few free Gigabytes each to play with. Most do have limitations like an individual file size limit, no encryption, content limits, etc. Here are a few to get you started:
iDrive - Their basic free plan gets you 10 GB of backup
Google Drive - gives you 15 GB of free storage (but if you use Gmail, Docs, or Google Photos it counts against this limit)
OneDrive - From Microsoft. Built into Windows and you get 5 GB for free.
Dropbox - The basic free plan gets you 2 GB.
Mediafire - The free tier gets you 10 GB of storage
Sync.com - 5 GB free
Box - 10 GB of free storage
There are lots of others. Obviously, if you have a lot of files or data, this could get unwieldly, but my best advice is to try and use each service for backing up one thing. Documents at one service, photos at another, videos at another, etc. You could even make a spreadsheet or note to keep track of what you have where.
For local backups, external drives are getting cheaper all the time. The downside of local backups is of course that they can be affected by the very same things that can affect any other devices you own. Fires, power surges, theft, etc. But ANY backup is better than NO backup.
There are free programs that can make local backup easier. You can set it up to automatically backup on a schedule, for example. Two of the best free solutions are Paragon Backup and EaseUS Todo Backup. Both these programs have paid versions with extra features, but the free versions will be more than sufficient for anybody who wants to make basic backups.
TL;dr tech support workers beg you to back up your shit so we don't have to bear the weight of your crushing digital losses.

simblr asks v2
here are my answers! find the questions here.
i wrote soo much ahaha. like however much you think i wrote, i wrote more than that. imo everything i write is gold though
1. are you going to buy the new pack (cottage living) when it comes out? no, it looks really nice but i legit never ever buy packs at launch, especially cause this one is a expansion and it will probably go on sale at some point
2. do you p*rate your dlc or buy it legitimately? buy it legitimately 👌
3. what’s your favorite world? brindleton bay, it gives like seaside cottage vibes. willow creek is good but it’s boring.
4. if you use a queue, how many posts per day do you set it as? 3 or 4. i used to do like 12 lmaoo what even was wrong with me
5. do you watch sims on youtube? yes, i watch mainly malixa, oshinsims, and msgryphi
6. what are your thoughts on the most recent pack? (dream home decorator) those sectional couches look good! but honestly im kinda annoyed because now it’s even harder to have all the items filled in when i place lots from the gallery. like i’m just saying like a lot of builds will use that pack probably and if i don’t get it then i can’t really use builds/save files
7. how many packs/kits do you own? lemme count
expansion: all - 10/10 game: 5/10 stuff: 9/18 kits: none xo
24/38 - 63%
8. what’s your origin id? is it the same as your url? 🤗 it’s in my title, it’s celeschul. it doesn’t look that nice in my title but i use celeschul in my package files and i’m guessing people search things like, “celeschul penny hair” or something like that in order to find my cc- so i keep it in there so the search results are easier. i do want to change it though..
but no it’s also not the same! well i mean it’s the username i use for cc. my origin id used to be an0nymousghost but i changed it. i wonder if anyone’s taken that one?
9. is your simblr your sideblog or main blog? main blog ✌️ my old blog @stardze is a main blog as well.
my old old simblr was a sideblog but it had like 1 follower and it literally a bot so i don’t think that counts. i have a multifandom sideblog though
10. do you have a cc finds blog? i wish. i was thinking bout it earlier and that would be sooo neat but sometimes i download stuff that doesn’t have a tumblr post attached to it, and also it’s stressful to keep up with so nah
11. are you wcif friendly? yes sir. in fact i bring the trouble of wcifs onto myself but doing them even when nobody asked.
12. what’s your favorite sized household to play with? (ex. 1 sim, 4 sims) gonna have to think on this one, honestly 1 sim is really fun and stuff goes by so fast. doing stuff with astrid when she was on her own, it was much more efficient.
for families, i haven’t done that in a while actually. 5, 2 parents and 3 kids is cute tho. why did i write this this is honestly such a hard question
13. if you have c&d, do you play with pets? i feel like i haven’t played with cats and dogs in forever. honestly i just have no paitence. noelle fae was supposed to get a cat (there’s a food bowl + cat bed in her house) but when summer vacation started, the amount of time i spent playing ts4 decreased a lot. (this doesn’t really make sense, i have a lot more time. honestly it just has to do with my recent obsession with a certain anime/manga and some other personal thing)
i did random nightmares in may though and i had pets frequently. g5 didn’t because sofia scarlett lived in an apartment, but g2/3/4 had cici, and g1 had all the cats. but that was back in march so it’s been a while.
14. what lifespan do you use? i really want to do aging off but then i feel like it drags on. but aging legit stresses me out, sometimes i just want to sit down and do some cas stuff but i only have 2 hours in real time and there’s like 4 days left till one of my sims’ birthdays.
15. if you own a lot of packs, how many of them have you actually played through? just so everyone is aware this question was made for me
i feel like eps require a specific save made for testing them out, but the only save i’ve ever made for an ep is noelle fae’s get famous save.
that is literally a lie - i made a save for island living with one of my 100bc kids, maisie acapella. i did actually post it on tumblr BUT then i deleted all the posts BUT i reblogged them on my alt account BUT i privated my alt account so i honestly forgot about it
i have never played through discover university or watched anyone do it on youtube, i’ve read gerbits’ story about it so i think i’m pretty qualified. i’ve always wanted to do one with periwinkle acapella but i never got around to it
another ep i know nothing about is get to work
i tried doing a eco life playthrough but i hadn’t watched any videos and i was like..what is going on. so i quit lolx d ;;;;; i mentioned it but the whimsy stories legacy was the first time i had played with the eco lifestyle features so technically i think i know what im doing
i got outdoor retreat literally on monday of this week so i haven’t played through it yet.
jungle adventure i still don’t know what’s going on. i remember last year before i bought the pack i was brainstorming, and wanted to do a ja playthrough with luna and cedar, who are a couple who i did a random legacy with and it was all queued to post when i deleted everything (if you’re wondering why, it’s because my queue was literally 200+ posts). except this time i didn’t save them to my sideblog so i lost them.
i still havent had a restaurant in dine out
also never did the vet thing from cats and dogs
i have no idea what that rock climbing thing is from snowy escape but i did most of the other stuff because rn g5
city living i did through psc stage 5 and also it was the first pack i bought anyways
the rest of them are either stuff packs or i ended up playing them through casual gameplay (seasons, parenthood)
16. what do you do as you play sims? (ex. listen to music) i listen to music most of the time, or listen to commentary youtube videos because i am an alpha chad. i also used to talk with my friends on voice call but i don’t do that anymore 🥲
17. which sims challenges have you tried? random legacy, whimsy stories, perfect sim challenge, 100 baby, legacy (just the plain get-to-10-gens one), random nightmares, berry zodiac, astrology legacy, apocalypse
i feel like im forgetting some.. honestly most of the stuff i did before simblr was either 100 baby (i love that challenge) or random saves that lasted for 2 seconds.
18. do you like the new(ish) hair swatches? nah.
i do appreciate that most cc hairs have a true (ish) black, thank god! and the fact that the hair update is what inspired me to update and fix a bunch of hairs with different issues is pretty nice. but will i use them? no.
plus it takes up like 5 gb? depending on how many packs you have.
19. post the latest screenshot you took 📸
Tumblr media
i live in cas
20. what is the cc/ingame hair that looks the most like your own? i think that dream home decorator side part hair looks a lot like my hair. honestly i havent see much like my hair but that one is kinda-? close
21. who is your favorite sim of yours and what is their story? noelle and alari fae i think!
Tumblr media
link to post
noelle is blonde and has blue-grey eyes. she wears purple contacts pretty often though (because she wants to 😌)
alari has light brown hair that is kinda curly, and she’s got pretty vibrant blue eyes.
they’re sisters, alari is 3 years older than noelle. noelle was 19 and alari was 22 when they got spotted
they worked as models when they were young adults. their jobs involved dyeing their hair blue/pink, and they would model like clothes and stuff. anyways, they were pretty successful. like not ultra famous but they had enough money to not work for the rest of their lives.
their modeling group was made of 4 girls, the others were named paisley autumn and they were green and red, respectively. some things are:
paisley and alari started dating during this
autumn was a single mother to a little girl named destiny
noelle dated many people during this but never ended up finding the one <3
when their contract ended after like 6 years, paisley and alari went to go live together and noelle decided to get into acting. so thats when get famous playthrough started!
there’s more but basically they’re like oc’s with sims on the side. xoxo
22. if you use cc, are there any cc creators that you have like ALL of their items? this is such a good question! i hoard hair very heavily (my folder is 11gb) i so i have like 97% from most of the popular hair creators.
i think i had legitimately EVERYTHING from simstrouble though, i went through multiple times to check and i also have all of her retired stuff.
i have everything from ridgeport i think-? because of the fact that she uploaded all her stuff in one big zip.
i think that’s it.. for a long time i also had everything by clumsyalienn, but then i ended up deleting it and only keeping my faves.
and looking at my collection, maybe ah00b? i might be missing a couple but i at least have like 99%.
23. what’s one pack you think is underrated? dine out, it’s laggy af yes but it’s such a nice thing for my sims to do.
24. what are your favorite sims stories/legacies? melons by gerbits always and forever
this question was inspired by this ask anyways so
25. if you could change one small thing about ts4, what would it be? most of my suggestions are pretty complex but literally just - when you add tray files, they appear at the top. my life would be so much easier
this took me literal hours to answer

Note
Yes PLEASE ;;; i am so poor on lioden
Lol alrighty then!
1. The first step, I’ve seen plenty of other people say this already, but I think it’s important to reiterate it: DON’T FEED YOUR PRIDE EVERY DAY. If you have, say, 40 lions, work on feeding them every three days. Most, if not all, large carcasses can fill up a lion’s hunger bar if it’s equal to or under 60%. If it’s between 20-40%, it’s not worth it.
1.5. Pick a schedule to send your lionesses out hunting (if I’m particularly active, I have mine go out every thirty minutes), and sell any excess. I prefer to send my lionesses hunting in areas where large carcasses are prone to be, such as Marshlands, Rocky, and Grassy areas. Elephant calves, zebras, and buffalos are the BEST because one of them can fill up 5 lions’ hunger bars. They also sell for a whole lot more, so if you have any left after you feed your pride, feel free to sell them too, but where is up to you. Monkey Business is okay for the smaller catches, but Branches also work, where you can pick your own prices. However, if you’re more of a hoarder like myself, feel free to also sell food bundles in the Trading Center. I’ve seen food bundles with over 100 uses go for 5 GB, though you’re more likely to be successful if you sell a bundle of elephant calves for 1 GB or its equivalent in SB.
2. The second step, and my personal favorite, is not to sell ANY currency during events. I kinda faltered at this one because I was broke and needed the moolah in the July event, but the reason still stays the same. An item’s value goes down significantly during events, as members can easily obtain it. Buffy Balls, for example, normally go for about 20 GB, maybe even a bit higher, but during the August and February events when anyone can buy it, their price shoots down to 15 GB, sometimes even 10! Instead, save any currency that you get and buy the item(s) yourself, and hold onto them until at least two months have passed or until its value has returned back to its normal amount. Also, check the market both before and during events to see which item you’re interested in selling once the event is over. Gnawrocks, for example, go for 60+ GB on any other day versus Saltlicks, as they’re very important breeding items, even though they cost the same in the event shop. So, if your goal is to sell an event item, the best choice would be Gnawrocks, purely because of their higher price.
2.5. Another thing that you can do is churn during events where currency is easier to obtain. The July event is special because you can get Meteorite Shards by the hundreds per day, and that amount only doubles if you have a side account. I was able to get over 15k Shards from that event alone due to churning, which after selling them, got me 76 GB pure. The problem with this is that you NEED to be active to do it. You must log in all day, every day, which can result in major burnout. I spent all last month recovering from July’s churning, so if you’re not comfortable with this or have the time, please do not try. Casual playing might not reap the same benefits, but your mental health is way more important.
3. The third step is something that I’ve learned just recently, and it’s called flipping! Basically, it’s when you buy an item really cheap (let’s say a Buffy Ball for 10 GB), then sell it for double or even triple its original price (20-30 GB). I did this with a Leonid that I bought for 30k SB and sold it for 55 GB. It might not have been much compared to others, but I did need the territory space, so even if you do lose out on some GB, just chalk it up as a chance to try again another time.
4. The fourth step is also easy if you’re a casual player, but it does require some SB: Monkey Teeth. Depending on which quest you decide to take changes how much MT you get, but I suggest focusing on Medium, as it gives you 5 MT per completed quest per day, if you decide to go that route. In fact, you’ll be able to get 300 MT in the span of two months, so even if you only play the game for an hour a day, you still can reap its benefits. Items from the Gorilla also rarely, if ever, change, as many of them can only be found there. The market for them also is pretty lax, but again, be wise about which one you decide to choose. The marking apps are prone to give you more GB than, say, Yohimbe Barks or Lion Meat, which can also be obtained from either events or be sold pretty cheaply in the Trading Center.
5. The final step, which is in conjunction with the previous tasks, is to know when to hoard an item/lion and when to sell it. Some people find it good to sell something immediately after they get it, while others prefer to hoard it for a little while. Both are okay, but again, it’s imperative to know when you should do either. The market is constantly changing, literally every day, and one wrong decision and do more harm than good. I once spent 60 GB trying to get a nice clean piebald king, only to miscalculate both the price and my timing and had to liquidate my pride just to recover. Again, whatever choice that you make is perfectly fine, but just remember the pros and cons of both before you make a final decision.

3 winners and 2 losers from the NFC and AFC Championship games
Tumblr media
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports
Tom Brady led the Bucs, and the Bills settled for field goals.
So much has changed in the last year, but with all the world turmoil there remains an ever-present constant: Tom Brady will be in the Super Bowl. Sure, he might have missed last year, but 2021 will mark Brady’s 10th appearance in the game since entering the league 20 years ago. That’s mind-bogglingly absurd. Most players wait their entire careers to play in the Super Bowl, some (like Philip Rivers) can have incredible careers with out experiencing the pageantry once. Brady averages an appearance every other year.
This is different, and Brady made it to the Super Bowl in a very different way. Unless you’re blinded to the game, he really didn’t play very well against the Packers. There was a concerted effort to turn this into a story of Brady conquering the No. 1 seed in the NFC, but in the end it was, much like the prior week against New Orleans, a case where the Tampa Bay defense prevailed. It wasn’t so much that Brady got “bailed out,” as much as the defense ensured that Rodgers couldn’t make a concerted comeback.
Davante Adams, the NFL’s best receiver this season, was held to 67 yards and 9 catches. They reduced his average yards per reception from 11.9 yards in the regular season, to 7.4 yards. While that might not sound like a lot, it’s a huge drop off — and even more astounding considering Tampa Bay was without their two starting safeties for the majority of the game. Antoine Winfield was ruled out before kickoff, and Jordan Whitehead left in the first half. This was destined to be a game where Adams ate the secondary alive, but players stepped up, filled gaps and made the difference.
It’s why it’s okay that Brady threw three touchdowns and three interceptions on the day. Which is hilarious when you think about it, because the Buccaneers moved on from Jameis Winston precisely because he threw as many picks and touchdowns last season. No, obviously Brady and Winston aren’t the same player — it’s just humorous.
Tampa Bay was bad last season because they were close in so many games, and Winston let them down. Brady doesn’t need to be the hero this time around, he just needs to be good enough to be part of the team, not the team. It’s probably a role he relishes a little bit, where he can sit back and be a sounding board for younger players who are bound to be intimidated by the moment. That’s what Brady brings to the table at this point in his career, and honestly, before Sunday I didn’t know if it would be enough — but the Buccaneers proved me wrong. They are a complete football team ready to make a run at the Super Bowl, and while that will be tough against the Chiefs, it’s not impossible.
Loser: Everyone on the Packers except Aaron Rodgers.
A week ago I offered effusive praise for the Packers for how much fun they were having on the field. All of that seemed gone on Sunday. Perhaps it was the pressure of playing at home in front of fans for a berth in the Super Bowl, but everything just looked difficult for a team that made everything appear so easy for much of the season.
The end to this story is the same familiar refrain: Aaron Rodgers was let down by his teammates and coaches. There were a few pivotal moments that Rodgers couldn’t do anything about, that either took the momentum away from Green Bay, or never gave him a chance.
Davante Adams drops a pass in the end zone that’s right on target. The Packers settle for a field goal.
Rodgers throws an interception after referees no-call holding on Sean Murphy-Bunting. It ends a drive at the GB 33 yard line, two plays after a 23 yard completion that had the Packers marching.
Aaron Jones fumbles following a reception at the 25 yard line. Tampa Bay get the ball and score a quick touchdown.
Matt LaFleur elects to kick a field goal with 2:09 left on the clock, instead of letting Rodgers attempt to score and tie the game.
That last point is a little up for debate, because either way the Packers would have needed to stop the Buccaneers in order to win, but it’s the pervasive feeling that the game was taken out of the hands of Green Bay’s best player, and it happened multiple times.
Now Rodgers is sounding pensive about his future, and honestly, who can blame him.
Aaron Rodgers: “A lot of guys futures, they’re uncertain, myself included.”
— Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) January 25, 2021
Loser: The referees in Bucs vs. Packers.
I’m not one to complain about refs. I think it’s an easy cop out to single out a missed call and blame a game for it. However, in this case there’s a lot of warranted criticism. The officials decided early on that they were going to let the Buccaneers and Packers go in the secondary. Both teams were jostling, holding, impeding each other all game long.
It benefitted Tampa Bay, it benefitted Green Bay. There were numerous times each team was helped by the lax attitude of officials towards contact in the secondary. The problem arose on the game’s final drive, in which officials called pass interference on Kevin King for grabbing the jersey of Tyler Johnson.
The call came on a 3rd and 4, the last chance for the Packers to get a stop. Instead of seeing a player win the game, we witnessed it taken away by inconsistency. Again, King definitely committed a penalty — on that there’s no question, but there needs to be some form of accountability when players are led to believe they can get away with stuff in coverage, only to see it altered at a pivotal moment.
It was an unfair way to end the game.
Winner: Gutless-ass football.
Big week for fans of conservative boring football, courtesy of the Packers and Bills. We’ve discussed the Packers’ decision to kick a field goal and how it may have led to their loss, but Buffalo’s decision was even more mystifying.
If you watched Bills vs. Chiefs then you know the game wasn’t nearly as close in the first half as the score showed. The only scoring success Buffalo had was courtesy of a muffed punt, which they recovered for a touchdown. Outside of that there really wasn’t much to write home about.
Sitting at 4th and 1, the Bills elected to kick a 20 yard field goal, rather than try for a touchdown. There were 14 seconds left on the clock, and they still had a timeout in hand. This meant they could run a safe play, pick up a yard, and give Josh Allen a few chances at the end zone. Instead they kicked, taking the game to 21-12. It was going to be a two-score game either way, it was just a cowardly move.
Then, without any sense of urgency, the Bills elected for ANOTHER field goal with 5:50 left in the third quarter, cutting the Chiefs to a 24-15 lead. Yep, another two score lead. I know there’s logic about slowly chipping down the lead, but this format just meant Kansas City needed to keep on par by hitting field goals of their own. In totality the Chiefs were out-driving Buffalo, so a field goal made no sense.
The Chiefs scored on the next drive and ended the game.
Winner: The Chiefs.
There is perhaps nothing more difficult than the weight of expectation, and living up to those expectations is so difficult in the NFL. From the first snap of Week 1 everyone predicted the Chiefs would return to the Super Bowl, but actually doing it is an entirely different story.
Patrick Mahomes was incredible on Sunday, but he’s a known quantity at this point. Where the Chiefs really shined was on defense, where they managed to mitigate all the Bills’ weapons and turn them into a shadow of themselves. The biggest regret in football isn’t losing, it’s not living up to your potential — and nobody on the Bills will be happy with how they were unable to move the ball against the Chiefs.
Kansas City is just so dangerous in so many different ways. Their defensive line is stout, their secondary is athletic, they have offensive weapons for days — and every week they’re so well coached they find new ways to needle opposing teams, finding their weaknesses and opening them wide up.
That’s why in two weeks time we’re going to have one hell of a Super Bowl. It’s going to be so fun to see Mahomes and Co. try to work against a tough Buccaneers defense, while seeing one of the greatest minds in NFL history in Tom Brady try to find gaps in Kansas City’s defense.
It’s going to be a blast.

How to save and store your photos before Flickr deletes them
New Post has been published on https://nexcraft.co/how-to-save-and-store-your-photos-before-flickr-deletes-them/
How to save and store your photos before Flickr deletes them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting tomorrow, Flickr will be limiting its free account users to 1,000 photos. And it’s not messing around: It will delete the rest unless you pay the $50 annually for a pro account, so if you don’t plan on paying, now is the time to download your stuff and evaluate where you plan to stash your images.
Downloading your photos
If you want to grab all your stuff, you’ll have to request a dump of your data from Flickr directly. You can do that by going into your settings, and hitting the “Your Flickr Data” section of the page in the bottom right. There, you can click the link to request your data.
If you use the service with any regularity, your Flickr haul is likely a ton of data. I have roughly 43,000 photos, many of which I’ve exported from Lightroom and uploaded, but also thousands that landed there from the Flickr iPhone app’s ability to automatically upload my photos in the background.
My data took a few hours to prepare and showed up as a total of 88 zip files, each clocking in around 2 GB. Once you request a data download, you have a few weeks to download everything. I requested my info on Friday, February 1st, and my link is active until February 19th.
In addition to the photo and video downloads, you also get zipped files containing your account data like comments, conversations, and captions.
What to do with those downloads
Once you unzip all the images, you’ll notice that they’re not organized like they were in your account, but if these are your only copies of the photos, it’s worth sticking them onto an external hard drive to keep a physical copy around, even if they’ll be disorganized. Sure, it will be hard to find anything specific you’re looking for that way, but at least it won’t be gone forever. Once they’re backed up, it’s time to find a new place on the web to stash them. Here are some options.
Sticking with Flickr
While many users will head off to free pastures for storing their photos online, Flickr’s new Pro account is a pretty solid deal when it comes to storing your photos. For $50 annually, you get unlimited storage of photos and videos, as well as access to the smartphone app that can backup your images into a private gallery. The Flickr desktop uploader is also pretty useful and can perform the same kinds of automatic backups for photos on your computer.
While the Flickr community isn’t nearly as robust as it was in the late 2010s, it’s still one of the best options if you want interaction with your photos instead of just a storage warehouse for your pictures and videos. Flickr’s groups can provide a good place to interact with other photographers who share your interests, or even get feedback on your work if you’re trying to improve your camera skills.
Google Photos
The hardest part about recommending Google’s photo storage options is explaining exactly how the plans work. Once you have everything setup, however, I find Google to be the best way to manage a ton of photos right now.
Your Google account comes with 15 GB of storage that goes towards housing your documents, photos, and Gmail. If you use Google Photos (the app), however, you can store an unlimited number of images which are capped at 16 megapixels of resolution, which is plenty, even if you want to make prints of your photos. If you don’t want to sacrifice any image quality, you can use your Google Drive allotment to store the original images.
The real draw for keeping all of your photos in Google’s infrastructure, however, is access to its AI-driven search tool. Once you’re in Google Photos on the web or in the app, you can search for objects and people and the algorithms will try to find it in your sea of pictures. So, if you want pictures of your Christmas from a few years ago, you can do a search for something like, “Christmas tree,” and likely find what you’re looking for without a lot of scrolling. This comes in especially handy if you’re uploading a disorganized pile of photos you downloaded from Flickr.
Amazon Photos
If you’re already using Amazon Prime for free shipping and video streaming, you also already have access to unlimited photo storage through Amazon Photos. Like Google, it offers AI search, but I have found the results aren’t quite as accurate. You’re also limited to just 5 GB of video storage, which will fill up pretty quickly if you shoot a lot of HD footage.
Like Google Photos, however, it does automatically backup your stuff, which is nice, and there’s a desktop app that keeps tabs on your storage. If you’re already using Amazon Prime, this is kind of a no-brainer, as long as you’re not planning to cancel anytime soon. If you want Amazon Photos on its own, you can expect to pay $12 per year for 100 GB or $60 per year for 1 TB.
iCloud
If you’re only using Apple devices, iCloud is a really simple way to get all your photos backed up together, and you can search using AI, as with the others. However, you will probably eat up your iCloud storage quickly if you have a lot of photos. You get 5 GB free with your Apple ID. Going up to 50 GB will cost your $1 per month. 200 GB will cost your $3 per month, and 2 TB will set you back $10 monthly. There’s no reduced resolution unlimited option or anything like what Google Photos offers.
More professional options
Once you go beyond the typical storage options, you get into the more professional services, many of which offer less total space and more emphasis on outward facing portfolios and client services. Unless you’re trying to become a pro or get photo work, most of these are probably overkill for your needs. Sticking with one of the big providers will be cheaper and simpler, even if it doesn’t look quite as pretty.

The 13 Best Apps to Maximize Your Business Productivity
WWW.KHOJININDIA.COM India's Own Search Engine For Business To Business...
Being more productive is especially crucial in the first 90 days of the year. This is the time when you need to set yourself up for breakout growth — and when you need to leverage available technologies that work.
Remarketing is one powerful technology that will help your business grow. Updating your website will also help. And understanding your target market is critical.
Now is the time you need to minimize distractions and maximize your productivity.
Lots of apps promise to make you super productive. But what are the best business productivity apps? Here are 13 of my favorites.
1. Expensify
As a frequent traveler, I used to hate expense reports. Then I found Expensify.
Take photos of your receipts, then thrown them away. Expensify’s system will automatically scan the image and fill out the details (e.g., amount, company name, etc.), generate your expense report in seconds, and keep you organized.
2. Google AdWords
The Google AdWords app is impressive. This fast, beautiful app makes it simple to manage your PPC campaigns wherever you are — you can change keyword bids and enable or disable campaigns, ads, and ad groups.
The AdWords app makes it easy to handle the small stuff quickly, and acts as an alert system to let you know which areas of your account need your attention when you can get on your PC or laptop.
(Don’t know much about AdWords, but want to learn? You should: You can make a lot of money with AdWords. You can get a crash course with this free PPC University app.)
3. Facebook Ads Manager
If you aren’t already advertising on Facebook, why not? Like Google, Facebook makes it easy for advertisers to manage their accounts while on the go.
With Facebook’s Ads Manager app you can pause or resume campaigns, edit budgets and schedules, view insights, and respond to alerts. In addition, you can track ad performance, create ads and edit existing ones, and receive push notifications (to alert you when ads or budgets are expiring and how they’re performing).
4. Outlook Mobile
Remember when Microsoft bought Acompli for $200 million? Acompli’s founders had a clear and ambitious goal: to “develop a mobile email app that would work on any device for any email account and enable any user to do the same kinds of tasks that business users are accustomed to doing with their email at the office.”
Now we have this amazingly fast and beautiful app — Outlook Mobile from Microsoft, which helps you connect all your email accounts, calendars, and files in one app. Focused Inbox, swipe options, and notifications are just a few of the great features that will help keep you productive.
5. Google Drive/Docs/Sheets
Although I’ve combined these three apps into one group section, you’ll need to download them individually:
Google Drive is the place to store all your documents (up to 15 GB for free).
Google Docs is the place to create, edit, and collaborate with your team on documents.
Google Sheets is the place to create, edit, and collaborate with your team on spreadsheets.
6. LinkedIn
Just because you’re on the move doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be expanding your LinkedIn network.
Get the LinkedIn app and find people to connect with, search for jobs, share your updates, and stay up-to-date on news about your connections from anywhere.
7. IF
IF is the one app that will connect and control all your other apps and your smart devices. You can literally automate your business — and your life.
Developed by IFTTT (which stands for “If This Then That”), the app has thousands of recipes to help you take care of boring tasks so you can become more productive. Get it.
8. Salesforce1
For Salesforce users, the SalesForce1 app provides a nice, quick way to access data wherever you are, whether it’s dashboards, reports, tasks, customers, or leads.
You can also add or create custom apps and build custom actions.
9. GoToMeeting
Meetings are likely part of your everyday routine, whether it’s with clients or team members located at multiple sites. When everyone can’t physically be in the room together, GoToMeeting is the next best (virtual) thing.
The GoToMeeting app makes it pretty easy to create or join meetings — anytime, anywhere. The sound and video quality is usually quite reliable, as long as you’ve got a good connection.
10. Trello
Who’s doing what? What’s in the works? What’s been done? Who needs help?
Trello is a fantastic app for organizing your projects and tasks. Simply create cards and boards to keep your team on track, productive, and meeting deadlines.
11. Slack
Are endless internal emails killing your productivity? Slack was created to help you with that.
This easy-to-use app lets you share files, create discussion channels, and have ongoing discussions (in groups or via direct messages) in real time, no matter where you and your team are. Everything is archived and searchable.
12. Evernote
OK, Evernote already has more than 150 million users, so it’s likely you’re already using this one religiously. However, on the off chance you aren’t, here’s what you need to know.
Evernote is the app you can use to take notes, create lists, and save articles, images, and websites — all while keeping your devices in sync. It’s pretty amazing. Use it.
13. Uber
Are you still wasting time in taxi lines or hailing cabs, especially in big cities? Uber is a huge time-saver.
Uber cars arrive quickly — within minutes of receiving your request. And while you’re being driven around, you can use all of the other awesome business productivity apps mentioned in this article to continue being (pardon the pun) uber productive.
What do you think are the top business productivity apps? Share your favorites in the comments!

Predator defecation, Digital Distribution & Poor Accounting
Deviboy has gone missing. What nefarious act has the DJ performed? Where is our co-host? Don't worry, he isn't dead, just busy.
It's enough to make your butthole clench. Or it would be, if you were a frog. A species of beetle has been discovered that used predator defecation in order to escape being lunch. It's a bit gross, but points for style.
It's time to enter the future and go entirely digital, according to Take Two's CEO. DJ likes his feelies too much to stop buying physical collectors editions though. Maybe we could convince him with a VR house full of VR collectables?
If you need motivation to get your accounting in order, it turns out animators in Japan are being short changed by the incompetence of the studios' finance teams. Poor business skills in a highly in demand creative industry? Say it ain't so!
This week DJ did nothing of note while Professor hiked across Iceland with a baby.

29 July 2020 – ‘Phantom of the Opera’ Closes in West End After 34 Years Due to Coronavirus Impact - https://variety.com/2020/legit/global/coronavirus-phantom-of-the-opera-london-west-end-1234719396/
“The Phantom of the Opera” is the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic. After a 34-year run at Her Majesty’s Theater in London’s West End theater district, Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical won’t be raising its curtains again, according to producer Cameron Mackintosh. However, Lloyd Webber appears to be more optimistic about reopening, tweeting on Tuesday: “As far as I’m concerned Phantom will reopen as soon as is possible” – ALW.

InCocoon (1985), directed by Ron Howard, Brimley portrayed Ben Luckett, one of the residents of the Sunny Shores retirement home whose health miraculously improves after a dip in the pool next door. In the 1980s and 1990s Mr. Brimley was a television fixture as a spokesman for Quaker Oats, gruffly telling viewers to eat the cereal because “it’s the right thing to do,” and Liberty Medical, a company selling diabetes-testing supplies. He died from kidney conditions in St. George, Utah.
2 August 2020 – SpaceX Dragon Endeavour spalshdown - https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/schools/spacex-brings-nasa-crew-back-to-earth-in-first-splashdown-in-45-years-121561
Two NASA astronauts returned to Earth on Sunday in a dramatic, retro-style splashdown, their capsule parachuting into the Gulf of Mexico to close out an unprecedented test flight by Elon Musk's SpaceX company. It was the first splashdown by US astronauts in 45 years, with the first commercially built and operated spacecraft to carry people to and from orbit. The last time NASA astronauts returned from space to water was on July 24, 1975, in the Pacific, the scene of most splashdowns, to end a joint US-Soviet mission known as Apollo-Soyuz. The return clears the way for another SpaceX crew launch as early as next month and possible tourist flights next year. Test pilots Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken arrived back on Earth in their SpaceX Dragon capsule named Endeavour, less than a day after departing the International Space Station and two months after blasting off from Florida. Discovery and Science Channel’s simulcasted coverage Sunday of the return of the Space X Crew Dragon spacecraft from its two-month stint at the International Space Station was watched by 4.3 million viewers on the cable networks, Discovery said. To keep the returning astronauts safe in the pandemic, the recovery crew quarantined for two weeks and were tested for the coronavirus.
3 August 2020 – William English, Computer Mouse Co-Creator, passed away at 91 - https://hackaday.com/2020/08/03/william-english-computer-mouse-co-creator-has-passed/
William English, the man who was a key engineer in co-creating a computer mouse and gave the users the facility of moving images on screen, has passed away. Around 1960, English had joined Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) to aid him in the development of a predecessor of what is today’s computer. Their version of the computer has a brown box with buttons or mouse which was a key piece of their model since it helped users control the objects on a screen interface. William’s mouse was utilitarian: a wooden block with two perpendicular wheels on the bottom, and a pair of potentiometers inside to interpret the wheels’ X and Y positions. The analog inputs are converted to digital and represented on the screen. The first mouse had a single button, and the cord was designed to run out the bottom, not the top. William had played an important role in the ‘mother of all demos’ in 1968, during which Engelbart had used a split-screen video to show side-by-side the movements of a hand-controlled mouse and the on-screen movement of the cursor. Engelbart said that he did not know why the device was called a mouse, as it had started that way and they just never changed. Bill designed all the audio-visuals for the demo, set everything up, and staged the 90+ minute presentation by speaking to Englebart and others through headsets. He died from respiratory failure in San Rafael, California, on July 26, 2020.
4 August 2020 – Frances Allen, first woman to win Turing Award for contributions to computing, passed away at 88 - https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/frances-allen-first-woman-to-win-turing-award-for-contributions-to-computing-dies-at-88/2020/08/06/7ea7d7a2-d7f0-11ea-930e-d88518c57dcc_story.html
Frances Allen, a former high school math teacher who became one of the leading computer scientists of her generation and, in 2006, was the first woman to win the A.M. Turing Award, considered the Nobel Prize in computing passed away. Renowned for her seminal work in optimizing the creation of computer software programs and high-performance computing systems, Ms. Allen earned her stellar reputation in the esoteric field of software compilers. Simply put, her efforts over a distinguished 45-year career at IBM helped software designers generate more-powerful and efficient code, which led to huge advances in the use of supercomputers and parallel processing, and eventually in all levels of computing. Her work, which set the tone for how people in the field think about compiler optimization, bridged the gap between how computers communicate and how people communicate, thus opening up the use of computers to scientists and engineers and others outside the glass-enclosed fortresses of the data centers. Allen became the first female IBM Fellow in 1989. She retired from IBM in 2002 but remained affiliated with the corporation as a Fellow Emerita. In 2007, the IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Award was created in her honor. She died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease in Schenectady, New York.

4 August 1875 – Hans Christian Andersen - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Christian_Andersen
Usually called H.C. Andersen, was a Danish author. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, he is best remembered for his fairy tales. Andersen's fairy tales, consisting of 156 stories across nine volumes and translated into more than 125 languages, have become culturally embedded in the West's collective consciousness, readily accessible to children, but presenting lessons of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity for mature readers as well. His most famous fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Mermaid," "The Nightingale," "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Red Shoes", "The Princess and the Pea," "The Snow Queen," "The Ugly Duckling," "The Little Match Girl," and "Thumbelina." His stories have inspired ballets, plays, and animated and live-action films. One of Copenhagen's widest and busiest boulevards, skirting Copenhagen City Hall Square at the corner of which Andersen's larger-than-life bronze statue sits, is named "H.C. Andersens Boulevard." At the time of his death, Andersen was internationally revered, and the Danish Government paid him an annual stipend as a "national treasure". He died from liver cancer at the age of 70 in Østerbro,Copenhagen.
4 August 1977 – Edgar Adrian - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Adrian
Edgar Douglas Adrian, 1st Baron Adrian, English electrophysiologist and recipient of the 1932 Nobel Prize for Physiology, won jointly with Sir Charles Sherrington for work on the function of neurons. He provided experimental evidence for the all-or-none law of nerves. Continuing earlier studies of Keith Lucas, he used a capillary electrometer and cathode ray tube to amplify the signals produced by the nervous system and was able to record the electrical discharge of single nerve fibres under physical stimulus. (It seems he used frogs in his experiments) An accidental discovery by Adrian in 1928 proved the presence of electricity within nerve cells. A key result, published in 1928, stated that the excitation of the skin under constant stimulus is initially strong but gradually decreases over time, whereas the sensory impulses passing along the nerves from the point of contact are constant in strength, yet are reduced in frequency over time, and the sensation in the brain diminishes as a result. Extending these results to the study of pain causes by the stimulus of the nervous system, he made discoveries about the reception of such signals in the brain and spatial distribution of the sensory areas of the cerebral cortex in different animals. These conclusions lead to the idea of a sensory map, called the homunculus, in the somatosensory system. Later, Adrian used the electroencephalogram to study the electrical activity of the brain in humans. His work on the abnormalities of the Berger rhythm paved the way for subsequent investigation in epilepsy and other cerebral pathologies. He died at the age of 87 in Cambridge.
4 August 2014 – James Brady - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Brady
James Scott Brady, assistant to the U.S. President and the fifteenth White House Press Secretary, serving under President Ronald Reagan. In 1981, Brady became permanently disabled from a gunshot wound during the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. His death was ruled a homicide, caused by the gunshot wound he received 33 years earlier. On March 30, 1981, 69 days into his presidency, Ronald Reagan and his cabinet members, including Brady, were leaving the Washington Hilton Hotel when a gunman opened fire. The first of six bullets hit Brady. The gunman was 25-year-old John Hinckley Jr. Although Brady survived, the wound left him with slurred speech and partial paralysis that required the full-time use of a wheelchair. Kobrine, his neurosurgeon, described him as having difficulty controlling his emotions while speaking after the shooting, saying "he would kind of cry-talk for a while", and suffering deficits in memory and thinking, such as failing to recognize people. In 1996, Brady received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bill Clinton, the highest civilian award in the United States. Brady died at at the age of 73 in Alexandria, Virginia. Four days later, the medical examiner ruled that his death was a homicide, caused by the gunshot wound which he sustained in 1981. Hinckley did not face any charges for Brady's death because he had been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Famous Birthdays
3 August 1811 – Elisha Otis - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisha_Otis
Elisha Graves Otis, American industrialist, founder of the Otis Elevator Company, and inventor of a safety device that prevents elevators from falling if the hoisting cable fails. At the age of 40, while he was cleaning up the factory, he wondered how he could get all the old debris up to the upper levels of the factory. He had heard of hoisting platforms, but these often broke, and he was unwilling to take the risks. He and his sons, who were also tinkerers, designed their own "safety elevator" and tested it successfully. He initially thought so little of it he neither patented it nor requested a bonus from his superiors for it, nor did he try to sell it. After having made several sales, and after the bedstead factory declined, Otis took the opportunity to make an elevator company out of it, initially called Union Elevator Works and later Otis Brothers & Co. At the New York Crystal Palace, Otis amazed a crowd when he ordered the only rope holding the platform on which he was standing cut. The rope was severed by an axeman, and the platform fell only a few inches before coming to a halt. The safety locking mechanism had worked, and people gained greater willingness to ride in traction elevators; these elevators quickly became the type in most common usage and helped make present-day skyscrapers possible. He was born in Halifax, Vermont.
4 August 1834 – John Venn - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Venn
English mathematician, logician and philosopher noted for introducing the Venn diagram, used in the fields of set theory, probability, logic, statistics, competition math, and computer science. In 1866, Venn published The Logic of Chance, a ground-breaking book which espoused the frequency theory of probability, offering that probability should be determined by how often something is forecast to occur as opposed to “educated” assumptions. Venn then further developed George Boole's theories in the 1881 work Symbolic Logic, where he highlighted what would become known as Venn diagrams. He built rare machines. A certain machine was meant to bowl cricket balls. The machine was so fascinating that when Australian cricketers were visiting Cambridge, the machines were used to entertain their arrival. The bowl cricket ball machine that Venn built actually bowled out the top ranked player of the team four times consecutively. He was born in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire.
4 August 1975 – Andy Hallet - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Hallett
Andrew Alcott Hallett, American singer and actor who became known from playing the part of Lorne in the television series Angel (2000–2004). He used his singing talents often on the show, and performed two songs on the series' 2005 soundtrack album, Angel: Live Fast, Die Never. After moving to Los Angeles, Hallett worked as a runner for an agency and then as a property manager. He eventually became a personal assistant to Kai Cole, wife of Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon. When the couple and their friends saw Hallett singing at the "B.B. Kings" lounge at Universal City Walk, Whedon conceived a new character for his new show Angel: Lorne, an anagogic demon who reads the hearts and futures of his guests as they sing in his karaoke bar. Hallett was invited to try out for the part, and won it after three auditions. The character of Lorne was featured as a recurring character in 45 episodes before Hallett was added to the title sequence as a series regular for the last nine episodes of the fourth season, and all of the fifth; in total he appeared as Lorne in 76 of the show's 110 episodes. The character's demonic visage involved extensive prosthetic makeup and detailed coloring of his face, neck and hands, leading to early calls for at least two and a half hours of makeup before Hallett's filming day could begin. He was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

4 August 1936 – Jesse Owens wins long jump—and respect—in Germany - https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/jesse-owens-wins-long-jump-and-respect-in-germany
On August 4, 1936, American Jesse Owens wins gold in the long jump at the Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. It was the second of four gold medals Owens won in Berlin, as he firmly dispelled German Fuhrer Adolf Hitler’s notion of the superiority of an Aryan “master race,” for all the world to see. Owens would win his third gold medal and set his second Olympic record of the games in the 200 meters the next day. On August 9, he followed that up by helping his team set a new world record—39.8 seconds—in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Owens and Metcalfe replaced two American Jews, Marty Glickman and Sam Stoller, originally scheduled to run the relay that day. Later, the U.S. team was criticized for the move, which was thought to be an appeasement of Hitler and the Nazi party, who would likely have been even angrier to see Jews, already a frequent target of Nazi hate and harassment, bring home a medal.
4 August 1944 – Anne Frank captured - https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/anne-frank-captured
Acting on tip from a Dutch informer, the Nazi Gestapo captures 15-year-old Jewish diarist Anne Frank and her family in a sealed-off area of an Amsterdam warehouse. The Franks had taken shelter there in 1942 out of fear of deportation to a Nazi concentration camp. They occupied the small space with another Jewish family and a single Jewish man, and were aided by Christian friends, who brought them food and supplies. Anne spent much of her time in the so-called “secret annex” working on her diary. The diary survived the war, overlooked by the Gestapo that discovered the hiding place, but Anne and nearly all of the others perished in the Nazi death camps. In 1947, Anne’s diary was published by Otto in its original Dutch. An instant best-seller and eventually translated into more than 70 languages, The Diary of Anne Frank has served as a literary testament to the nearly six million Jews, including Anne herself, who were silenced in the Holocaust.

Week 16 Fantasy Busts: Inconsistent Brandin Cooks set to disappoint
yahoo
Week 16 Fantasy Lames: Grinch side of Green to make yet another appearance
Each week the Noise highlights 10 somewhat un-obvious names whom he believes are destined to implode leave egg on his face. To qualify, each player must be started in at least 50 percent of Yahoo leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post results, whether genius or moronic, the following week using the scoring system shown here (Thresholds – QB: 18 fpts, RB: 12 fpts, WR: 11 fpts, TE: 10 fpts). If you’re a member of TEAM HUEVOS, reveal your Week 16 Lames in the comments section below.
Drew Brees, NO, QB (87 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $33) Matchup: vs. Atl Unthinkable. Unconscionable. Flat out nuts. Not long ago even entertaining the thought of shying away from Brees at home was insane. He’s an inner-circle Hall fo Fame quarterback with a years long history of public humiliations inside the Superdome. His historic averages are obscene – 101.4 passer rating, 7.98 ypa, 291.3 yards per game, 2.3 passing touchdowns per game. But as this year’s Saints have evolved into a ground-stressed team, Brees has actually proven mortal at times within friendly confines. Against Detroit, Chicago and Carolina he failed to surpass 15 fantasy points. Uncharacteristic. This week, the QB and his cohorts welcome a very familiar foe, Atlanta. In the first matchup just two weeks ago, at the swanky Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Brees notched a very employable 271-2-1 line. However, no two contests are rarely the same. As has been the case for the entire regular season’s second half, Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara are sure to be game plan centerpieces. Atlanta has fumbled horribly containing versatile RBs this season giving up a league-high 92 receptions and 55.3 receiving yards per game to the position. It’s certainly possible his production comes via dump-offs, but downfield connections are another story. This season, the Falcons, led by Desmond Trufant (57.4 catch% allowed), have surrendered just 6.8 yards per attempt and 1.2 air touchdowns per game. Brees has barbecued the Dirty Birds in his illustrious career, but this time, he forgets to pack the hot sauce.
Fearless Forecast: 266 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 1 interception, 13.7 fantasy points
Jamaal Williams, GB, RB (53 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $15) Matchup: vs. Min Glancing at Williams’ college film and various scout opinions one persistent thought comes to mind – JAG. No, that doesn’t mean he’s the next Natrone Means or Fred Taylor. It’s an acronym that stands for “Just a Guy.” To be fair, he greatly exceeded all expectations operating as the Packers’ lead back from Weeks 10-14. Over a five-game stretch he totaled the sixth-most valuable output among all RBs averaging 95.8 total yards per game with five touchdowns. But secondary metrics reveal true colors. During that same span he ranked No. 29 in yards after contact per attempt and No. 30 in elusive rating according to Pro Football Focus. That’s on par with Kerwynn Williams, an appropriate talent comp. Truthfully, the BYU product isn’t special. Aaron Jones is Green Bay’s true top RB. Simply, he’s more athletic, more explosive and more elusive, an overall better fit. After Williams lumbered last week (10-30-0), it’s possible Mike McCarthy gives Jones additional work, especially when considering the opponent. Outside of blips against Detroit, Cleveland and Carolina, the Vikings have encased most straight-line runners in ice. On the year, they’ve surrendered the fewest fantasy points to RBs yielding 3.62 yards per carry, 104.4 total yards per game and eight touchdowns. With a potential 50-50 split on the immediate horizon and given the horrendous matchup, Williams is demote worthy, with or without Aaron Rodgers at the controls.
Fearless Forecast: 12 carries, 43 rushing yards, 3 receptions, 14 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 7.2 fantasy points
Marshawn Lynch, Oak, RB (73 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $14) Matchup: at Phi Eggnog isn’t for everyone. Its creamy texture and overt sweetness don’t tickle many taste buds. In order to consume multiple moose mugs of it alcohol is necessary. That, at least, is how we roll at the Evans compound. Lynch, like the classic holiday beverage, isn’t loved by some. His controversial Anthem protests and demonstrative nature turn many people off. For others, however, his unbridled joy, between-the-tackles doggedness and fierce loyalty to Oakland are admired. It’s been a rocky return to old stomping grounds for Beast Mode. He, as usual, has generated appreciable yards charging downhill. HIs 1.89 yards created per touch, which tracks gains made after running around or through the first defender, ranks No. 7 among all RBs. Additionally, he checks inside the top-six in juke rate, total evaded tackles (75) and yards per carry versus stacked fronts (4.4). But his surface production hasn’t quite matched the secondary metrics. Currently RB18 in standard formats, he’s largely been matchup dependent. Unfortunately, this week doesn’t present a favorable opportunity. Fletcher Cox and friends consume RBs with the voracity of Santa at a Mrs. Fields. This year, the Eagles have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points, 3.19 yards per carry, six rushing TDs and, get this, 50.8 rushing yards per game to RBs. Kareem Hunt, Todd Gurley and Alfred Morris are the only plowshares to top 65 ground yards against them. Throw in the strong possibility of an insurmountable early deficit and the odds of Lynch finishing top-30 seems long.
Fearless Forecast: 14 carries, 52 rushing yards, 2 receptions, 13 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 8.0 fantasy points
A.J. Green, Cin, WR (95 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $27) Matchup: vs. Det
It never ceases to amaze how many people steadfastly stand by their “studs.” The idea is the siren’s song of fantasy. Start Player X because of previous accomplishments and he’s a near lock for profitable numbers. However, last week, Green donned an embarrassing pink bunny suit. Jailed by Xavier Rhodes, quite possibly the best shadow corner currently in the NFL, he sunk millions of gamers with an impractical 2-30-0 line. In response, “Fudge” wasn’t exactly the word his backers uttered. The former All-Pro only has one direction to go, but another effort outside the WR top-30, which would be his eighth this season, is entirely plausible. Full disclosure, the Lions have surrendered the most receptions to WRs over the last eight weeks. Additionally, on the season, 10 wide receivers have notched 70 yards or more against them. But much of that production was generated by underneath weapons. The reason? Darius Slay. Similar to Rhodes, he’s shadowed some of the game’s elites and turned them into paupers. Odell Beckham (3-30-0), Julio Jones (4-50-0), Michael Thomas (1-4-0) and Antonio Brown (1-9-0) are just a few unfortunate souls who felt the DB’s wrath. Bill Lazor will attempt to move Green about to exploit softer matchups, but considering the broken state of the Bengals as a whole, particularly the offensive line, there’s no guarantee Andy Dalton feeds his top option. Don’t shoot your eye out. Count on JuJu Smith-Schuster (at Hou), Sterling Shepard (at Ari), Robert Woods (at Ten) or Keelan Cole (at SF) instead.
Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 62 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 8.7 fantasy points
Brandin Cooks, NE, WR (93 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $25) Matchup: vs. Buf
The lone arrow Cooks fires this week is sure to penetrate the heart of his owners. He’s served up a few holiday treats here and there, but, for the most part, Tom Brady’s primary downfield threat has resembled a pricier Robby Anderson. His WR12 standing in fantasy points per game is a tad deceiving. Because Brady prefers culinary variety, the receiver has disappeared in several instances throughout the season. In six of 14 games he fell outside the WR top-24. With a dependable ground attack, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan (when healthy) and other mouths to feed, Cooks simply isn’t overly reliable. When matched against uncongenial secondaries (e.g. New Orleans, Miami and Los Angeles) his production soured. His first battle with Buffalo, in Week 13, was one such occasion. Targeted a season-low three times, he hauled in a useless two catches for 17 yards. The Bills play loose in the trenches, but when it comes to defending the pass they’re rather stiff. Corners E.J. Gaines and Tre’Davious White have allowed a combined 70.5 passer rating and 54.8 catch percentage to their assignments. If Gaines is unavailable this week (knee), Shareece Wright (84.0 passer rating allowed) should fill in adequately. In total, Buffalo has yielded only four touchdowns and the fourth-fewest fantasy points to WRs since Week 8. Nearly identical to the first matchup, Gronk and the ground game, even down Rex Burkhead, will be emphasized resorting Cooks to a bit player.
Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 67 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 8.7 fantasy points

Hey good people! So - I have been obsessing over Instagram for a bit more than an year and I have been through so much. I can't even begin to tell you.In the following blog I will share with you all my experiences, failures and successes with facts backing me up.I started out on Instagram with a Travel niche account about 11 months ago. This account I wanted to build 100% genuinely. No botting. No faking. Nothing. I spent 3-4 hours a day on Instagram. Liking and commenting on content that I actually adored. Not just spamming likes/comments to get attention. It took a lot of patience. I started with 700 followers (family/friends mostly) and ended up with 11.3K followers. We are talking about 3-4 hours a day for 11 freaking months.During these 11 months. I've done everything from buying and using virtually every bot out there. Opening around 30 accounts with different niches (botted). Buying offshore servers and running Fake Agent scripts. FL, MP, VT - I did it all. I bought 1000 Instagram accounts at one point. I botted them. Lost 300 of those accounts (got caught) - other 700 are still running. Spent a fortune on proxies, VPN, VPS, off-shore servers, FA, Bots and PVA accounts.Let me back up a bit (Glossary) VPN / VPS (Virtual private servers - I can't bot 1000 accounts on my laptop. I had to buy access to VPS with high config (24 cores / 64 gb ram) to run bots as they are resource intensive Proxies/IP (You can run 5 Instagram accounts on one IP address. So on my main IP (home) I ran 5 accounts. If I ran more than 5 I would get blocked. So I bought proxies. (dedicated proxies) I ran 3 accounts per proxy. FL,MP, VT - These are just some of the bots I used. Here is what I learned overtime. Something you will eventually realize yourself. Most of this you already know.FACTS / LESSONS1. Instagram IntroInstagram isn't stupid. Botting is not going to help in the long run. Yes I did manage to grow accounts from 0 to 38K in like 6 months but those days are long gone. Instagram has improved a lot! Its literally working 24x7 to crack down on these bots. So - this is a NO NO. Once again - this could have been done before. But no longer. Every other day I'm running into new problems with botting. My advice - don't chase this. (FL,MP ... all will soon go off)2. The Righteous MenGrowing 100% genuine is retarded. And I was one of the retards. Face it. Everyone is doing hanky panky with social media. Politicians, Celebs, Kids ... everyone.https://gizmodo.com/5970857/youtube-took-2-billion-views-away-from-sony-universal-and-others https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hhhuuRGfaU& http://www.refinery29.com/2017/06/157127/katy-perry-fake-twitter-followersAs you can see - everyone from Sony to Katy Perry to POTUS has fake followers. So - you are the one who is losing out by not making any hanky panky. This is a FACT.You can never grow BIG by being righteous unless you wanna waste a decade on it. If you got time. Then you can.3. World of SpamEven kids have learned to spam and grow. This has become a trend. Look into follow train / like train. Find out on Instagram about this. You will see what I mean.Example: https://www.instagram.com/p/BbyinUwlVtx/?taken-by=kyliejennerLatest post by famous Kylie Jenner. See her comments. You'll find tens of thousands of teens commenting LB, CB and some other non sense. These are SPAM tactics used by teens and kids. LB = Like back. You like their photo. They'll like back. CB = comment back. FB = follow back.WHY THE HELL DO YOU THINK EVERY ONE IS RESORTING TO FAKE FOLLOWERS, SPAM TACTICS, FAKE VIEWS, PODS, BOTS? (Something to think about)Anyways - you can spam on top celeb accounts (LB,CB) and if you are obsessed with it. You can get 1-2k likes and upto 100 comments. (Res assured these comments will be SUPER generic and copy paste)4. Engagement PodsTo me this was the closest way to make engagement happen. These are groups of people on Slack, Telegram, Whatsapp and EVEN in Instagram DMs who engage with each other. Its simple. I will like your photo. You like mine. But these 'pods' (if you find the right ones) are well moderated by admins - have decent people. Good quality Instagram accounts and all.You can safely get 2K likes and 500+ comments if you are in the right pods. It will be a lot of work but its worth itThe trick to engagement pods is to join ones that have high quality bloggers. There are also some networks that have exclusive pods for 10k+ accounts, 50k+ accounts and 100k+ accounts. You can imagine what miracles these can do for your posts. Getting 100 comments and 1000 likes from 100K+ profiles is MAGICAL.Advice - DO NOT use engagement pods that have 'rounds'. Those are filled with spam like / CPA Instagrammers who are there only for the purpose of scamming people.Join engagement pods that are of continuous cycle. I'll make a post on engagement pods and secrets to using them if I get a lot of requests for those down below.5. Holy Grail - the Instagram AlgorithmWhile everyone will beat around the bush as they don't know any better. At the time of this article being published - this is Instagram Algorithm.Instagram gives you 3 options to go big. 1. Pay them cash ( a ton of it - my advice? NEVER do that unless you're a millionaire) 2. Reach top post page for your hashtag (this will get you noticed between your niche audience) 3. Reach explore page (this is just pushing your content out into the 'front page' of Instagram)Lets talk about 2 and 3. Algorithm =If your post gets a TON of traction within first 60 minutes of going live on Instagram you will reach top post page for your hashtag.Case Study - I reach top post page for the most competitive hashtag once while learning about this.love (hashtag love)I made a post and injected 30,000+ likes to it (purchased) within first 10 minutes of post going live. I then managed to get 50 comments from 100K+ profiles via engagement pods.By 15th minute I was on #love top post page. This is how to reach the top post page.Lets say your hashag is #travel. You wanna get to top post page for that? Its easy. Search for #travel and see top posts under that and see how many likes they are getting. Find out average likes of all posts under top post page.So among 9 posts maybe average likes is 7000 likes for #travel. You need to get 7000++++ likes within first 60 minutes to reach top post page for that hashtag. If the hashtag is BIG and you keep your engagement running for first 60 minutes then you will probably stay on top post page for 24 hours.RESULT? Millions of people will naturally bump into your post. Make it pretty so they end up following you.LESSON Faking likes and reaching top post page = real traffic + real likes + real people / followersAbout reach explore page. You need way more traction than this.Technique is to reach top post page for 15 competitive hashtags. That by itself pushes your posts to explore.CASE : Once I targeted 30 top hashtags. Injected 30k likes to my post. Managed to get 177 comments in under 60 minutes via engagement pods from HQ accounts (10k+,50K+,100k+) ...I hit the explore page.RESULT? I gained 1100 followers in under 24 hours. They all engage with me till this day. This can be down on a massive scale.6. Content is KingYes it is. But everyone has good content these days. Every kid is decent at Photoshop and Lightroom and every iPhone is capable of doing wonderful things in terms of photography.Content is king - I guess so. Don't sweat on it. That part everyone can do and easy.Thats all for now. God damn. Haha. I had a lot on my plate I guess. Haha. One more thing - this is all that I have seen and noticed. Not encouraging anyone to juice stats or leave bots that they are already using or start buying fake shit. Do what you feel is right.I'll do another post on this sharing in depth about each topic (Engagement Pod, IG Algo in depth, Techniques used by Celebs, Social agencies to grow fast by faking it)Let me know if you guys need any of those topics covered!Cheers!

Together We Shall Lead …. Through Friends and Fellowship with 41 Club Poland for their AGM 2017 held in Gdańsk between 16th and 18th June 2017
  Dear 41 International Members,
It all started at the 41 International AGM in Sun City, South Africa, when President Karol of 41 Club Poland approached me for some minor clarification about the accounts (what else for me??). We got chatting about our days in Round Table and how it would be great to visit again. He promptly reminded me of the AGM was to be held in a few weeks time and asked him if they have international guests. He said that only a few would turn up. As 41 Club Poland is a small association, it was time to lend my support and visit. At the time I was not aware that I would have the honour to represent the Board as well.
As our 41 International President could not travel during this period in June, he asked me to stand in for him and represent 41 International at this AGM, which I gladly accepted.
This is not my first visit to Gdańsk, Poland and oh my has it changed since 2001. Many improvements have taken place and it is a great city to visit.
I arrived in Gdańsk from Malta via Amsterdam in early Friday afternoon. I was met and greeted by Lukasz Stolarczyk (IRO) and Cezary Bak (Vice President). My host for the weekend Karol Rzewuski (President) arrived soon after accompanied by my good friend Andy Waite from GB&I, who was also being hosted by Karol.
Other international guests for the AGM included Peter Good (IRO GB&I), Manfred Willms (Old Table Germany – National Secretary), Manu Eskola (Editor – Old Table Finland) and Sami Tyven (Old Table Finland OT56 Nokia), the latter two gentlemen with their respective wives.
A couple of days previous, we received a small change in the program due to the restaurant getting the date of the gala dinner wrong. SHIT (Seriously Happy International Tabling!) happens, I suppose. So, the program for Saturday and Friday evenings were interchanged with the Gala Dinner on Friday evening, as what happens in GB&I conferences.
Until the evening program we had some time to kill, so Karol suggested we go straight to Sopot where he lives and go out for a small bite to eat with his extraordinary wife Jadwiga and Andy at a small beach restaurant in Sopot, belonging to another ex-tabler from Sopot. It was a great afternoon, the sun shining, the weather beautiful and overall relatively warm. Later on that afternoon, I got chatting with Karol’s son and passed information about YAP and what a great experience this is.
The Gala Dinner was held at Villa Uphagena Restaurant and we were treated like Kings and Queens. It is old mansion house converted into a chic restaurant. We all gathered there, with pre-dinner drinks. At the beginning of dinner, Lukasz introduced himself and thanked Grzegorz Bujak for his work behind the scenes in convening this AGM as well all other Polish ex-tablers. He thanked all present for attending the AGM weekend and supporting 41 Club Poland. After having the starter and the soup, it was time for the Banner Exchange. It was great to see Karol emotional and moved at this interchange of banners and gifts. This is another facet of the true spirit of tabling. The rest of the dinner was delicious with a mouth-watering entrée and super light scrumptious dessert (Yeah right!!). After dinner, we all proceeded home or to the respective hotels.
Saturday morning saw the proceedings start with the AGM at 10:00 at Conference Hall at the Centre of Maritime Culture, overlooking the River Motlawa. The AGM had the element of unformal formality to it, with both Polish and English reporting. All members gave out the report and most cases Lukasz was kind enough to translate and fill in the blanks. Lukasz is a very hands-on guy and is probably a perfectionist too. Reminds me of someone I know!! It was great to see the spirit of these guys shine through. Although a small club, they still manage to do quite a bit apart from the usual wining and dining. They are organising events to increase the funds to raise for charity, which is always good. They are trying their best to get other “clubs” of ex-tablers to join more and more and formalise their relationship further. Another sticking point was the relationship with Round Table Poland. The latter is very weak and needs assistance to grow. We were to meet a few of them that evening. That was my job for the evening to encourage and push gently in the right direction.
It was then my time to pass on President’s Bruce message to council and floor members. In his address, the message was loud and clear. Main areas included the plan for his year, the issue of the name change which needs to be finalised by next HYM depending on input from the delegates of all member countries. The message also revolved around the relevance and attractiveness of 41 International to ex-tablers and how we can provide tools to make this happen. Finally the message indicated some of the topics that will be discussed during the HYM in Italy in October 2017. I also presented the President’s badge for this year charity drive. Given the few people, I did manage to sell around 15 pins.
Towards the end of the AGM proceedings, we witnessed the change of the guard from Karol Rzewuski to Cezary Bak. The Presidential jewels were changed at this stage. President Cezary presented his Board for year 2017-8. Vice President will be Grzegorz Bujak, whilst Łukasz Stolarczyk will remain as IRO, as did Jerzy Kobyliński, who will remain Treasurer for another year. Members are Mika Surakka (originally from Finland) and Past President Karol. In his opening speech as President, Cezary stressed that he wants to build on what has been achieved so far. His main effort will however be to organise with the help of members, events to raise much needed funds for a local hospice foundation, the Fundacja Hospicyjna    (https://www.facebook.com/FundacjaHospicyjna/?ref=br_rs), which Łukasz’s wife Alicja is presiding and helping immensely. To this end they introduced a special coin which they are selling at 20 Zloty (app €5), which he sold after the meeting.  If anybody wishes to help and assist more actively, all you need to do is contact the Gdańsk ex-tablers or follow the Facebook link above. More events are envisaged this coming year.
After the AGM, we then moved to the pier to catch the Black Pearl and sail on the Motlawa River and see some of the historical sights of Gdańsk from a unique perspective.  On board, we were served various rounds of Polish vodka and canapes, just to whet our appetite before lunch. When we arrived back, we went back to the top floor restaurant of the Centre of Maritime Culture where we had a great lunch with free-flowing wines. In the afternoon, we proceeded to the newly opened World War 2 Museum. The architecture of the museum is extremely modern. The exhibit is a must-see museum in Gdańsk. The main exhibition presents the history and experience of WWII not only from Polish perspective, but also in a wide global context. There was simply not enough time to visit it fully. It was a very humbling experience of what man can do and did including all the atrocities of war.
There is no rest for the wicked. After the visit to the Museum, we then went for the evening event which was a craft Beer and Meal Party at the aptly named, Craft Beer Hotel Central, in the centre of Gdańsk. This was a very enjoyable and east evening, sampling several types of locally produced craft beer. The meal was very good too, with the rack of ribs to die for. Also present were the member of Round Table Poland, Michał Nowicki. He is a very young tabler, full of enthusiasm. It was probably the drink releasing the flow of ideas that evening, and I very much enjoyed passing my experience of local and international tabling to Michal, who must have wondered what on earth hit him. I tried to encourage him did he not stay at home that evening with his wife and child. Michał might potentially become a ‘crystallisation core’ for new Round Table in Poland. As things stand, the older generation of existing tablers are unable to do it by themselves. Getting these young tablers involved, is the right move forward, because it can motivate new Round Tablers to get involved. This is also what Past President Engelbert had advised during last year’s AGM. The evening came to an end with a tour of the brewery, a very interesting tour indeed. This was closely followed by our Finnish friend Sami Tyven, who is himself a beer brewer in Finland.
Since I had an early morning Ryanair flight on Sunday, I was unable to join in for the brunch proceedings. However, true to his perfect hospitable trait, Karol prepared a small packed breakfast for me, which I appreciated immensely.
Next year’s AGM will be held on the weekend of 1st to 3rd June 2018, in Krakow. This is where President Cezary lives. It plans to be another great AGM and it is one beautiful city to visit as well.
My overall impression of this weekend was one of immense personal hospitality given to all of us foreign delegates. This is an experience and AGM weekend that I will not forget so easily. Except for Mika, I have known all the Polish ex-tablers for around 17 years, so meeting them again was so special for me. I want to take this opportunity to say a Special Thank you to Karol and Jadwiga and Maciej Rzewuski for hosting me in their lovely home. Another special set of than yous must go to Cezary Bak, Grzegorz Bujak, Łukasz Stolarczyk, Jerzy Kobyliński and Mika Surakka for all that they did for us and in making my stay one that I shall cherish for years to come.
Aż się spotkamy, wiwaty.
Yours in Continued Friendship,
Alex Abela
