i love the idea that Wild is a big brother to basically all of the kids in his Hyrule. it’s such a good heacanon that i never see utilized.
#with their dads permission he’ll take Cottla and Koko on horse rides and they always have food ready for his horses when he comes into town#cottla wants to learn archery to be like him and he melts when he finds that out#all the kids in Hateno have been caught giving treats to his horses#this is a popular headcanon i think but him teaching the local kiddos how to sword fight so often times he’ll be found directing a horde of#children who’re all swinging treebaches around. he couldn’t look prouder of them.#imagine when he gets older and all the village kids r teens/young adults and all of a sudden the village has skilled hunters and foragers#and everyone’s like ‘wow what’s hateno doing’ and the answer is they all had a great big brother#by older i mean he’d be like. early thirties. but y’know ahsnfjks#wild’s impact should rest in the ppl i think. botw is all abt humanity’s strive to overcome hardship and find beauty in the misery#(well. it is to me anyhow lmao)#so i love the idea of his influence not resting in politics or myths or whatever#but within the culture and spirit of those he fought for#in my brain he definitely wanted to rescue Zelda at first and that’s the only reason he was going to fight ganon#but as his journey progressed he wanted to protect and cultivate the future more than rescue the past#i like this idea w zelda too. like not only will the future generation have great fighters but excellent scholars and leaders.#wow i am RAMBLING#anyhow. i like big bro wild.#linked universe#lu#jojo’s linked universe#linkeduniverse#lu wild#wild lu#wild linked universe#linked universe wild

#maybe I was naive before and/or maybe I'm just bonedead tired af and not making much sense (i know I am)#bue the thing is if you had asked me before this night why the USA have never had a female president unlike so many comparable countries#I would have...attributed like 50%-80% of the reason to structural causes and the obsession with male candidates#yes there are extremely regressive and misogynistic regions and subcultures in the US - but that is true for most countries!#it is also a country with some VERY progressive people#and I don't know any country where so many people are so constantly actively and vocally arguing in favour of FINALLY having a female leade#so yeah I attributed it mostly to the general obstacles for female politicians and how elections in the US work and even past candidates#and I guess a big part of me wanted to believe that all this clownery of men saying they feel emasculated voting for a woman#was just a special sub-category of freakishness that gets pushed into the spotlight during the election#but at this point (dead-tired and annoyed as all shit)...I'm at the point where I say the United States have an almost unique problem#with voting for a woman + the idea of having a female president#maybe it's the huge role of the military and the president as leader of the troops or maybe it's the impact of evangelicals on the culture#maybe it is the role of gender roles in pop culture being so deeply entrenched#obviously this election racism and Harris being a woman of colour also plays a huge role#but at the point I am it genuinely feels to me like there's a very specific hang-up in the US regarding female candidates#and I know a lot of people are going to end up saying: 'oh it has nothing to do with it it has nothing to do with gender'#and I would have had that discussion and said that the issue with discrimination is that often you can't prove the individual case#but at this point....specifically with the US I have a hard time being like 'maybe it was maybe it wasn't' in regards to this factor#sorry to say

Genshin Spoilers
Okay okay lemme cook for a second.
Anyone else find the blood purity and relations shit weird?
Like what we know now is that Caribert died at age 8 in the creation of the loom of fate. So therefore Caribert has no heir and was also regarded as an illegitimate child by Clothar and that his mother is of Mondstandt origin. So he is not pureblood which is why he was turned into a hillichurl.
We can make assumptions that Clothar had no other children with this woman or if he did, they are still monsters and not able to repoduce, so therefore there are no halfblood heirs of Clothar.
Next I have to talk about race and geography since I’m such a nerd about this crap. So many characters should have darker complexions based on how much sun they get (Sumeru desert, Natlan, and Liyue, PLAYABLE character not just NPCs.) Like if Mualani looks dark compared to 90% of the cast, we have a problem.
So let’s assume Teyvat is a globe and it’s laid out on a flat map for us to see. Let’s also assume that the climate is similar to earth. Let’s assume the equator is around the center so like above most of Liyue and Sumeru. Parts of Mondstandt being based on Italy, it should have a medeterranean climate, therefore melanin, but I digress. Okay so the Sumeru deserts and Natlan are close to the equator. Inazuma would be closer to the South Pole and has a harsh climate hence people not getting sun. (This is also ignoring places like Fontaine which is based on France, where yes, Black people exist in real life, but I digress). The only playable characters with dark(er) skin as well as NPCs are from Natlan and Sumeru (and also Xinyan for some reason).
We also know from Dainsleif, Halfdan, and the Sinners, that they use Norse names. Also Khaenri’ah being underground would mean they got little to no natural light. So it’s safe to assume pureblood Khaenriahs are white as fuck.
With this knowledge, wtf is going on with Kaeya?
We also have to examine how this curse works. If all the non pure bloods were turned into monsters, it’s safe to assume they can’t reproduce. Also judging by Kaeya very clearly being a child in the past and growing up with Diluc, it’s safe to assume that the modern Khaenri’ahns have a normal lifespan (unless being halfblood is what dictates that). It may have diminished or weakened over time, throughout the generations. We don’t know the exact mechanics but we can assume that Kaeya has a normal lifespan. I know Hoyo is gonna try to say he’s pureblood and not explain stuff but logically, no. When he sees Dain he comments “you’re a pureblood Khaenri’ahn” implying that, he, Kaeya, is not that. Also there’s the Sumeru trip when he was young. Assuming that his father is the one with the Alberich surname, which makes sense judging by how surnames usually work, we can assume that Kaeya’s mother was the one who isn’t Khaenri’ahn.
We can assume that the only Khaenrians who could reproduce from that original cursed generation were the ones who retained human form (pure bloods). We can also assume that Kaeya is a descendent of one of Clothar’s pure blood children. He probably had an affair with Caribert’s mother out of wedlock. We can also assume that more blood mixing naturally occurred over time. So either Kaeya’s family has been mixed for awhile and it’s no big deal, or more likely, Kaeya’s father had an affair with Kaeya’s mother out of wedlock. Judging by how dark he is compared to the majority of characters, his Indian inspired outfit for his in-game skin, the trade trip to Sumeru, when he was young, and the geographical proximity, it’s safe to assume that Kaeya’s mother is probably Sumerian (and likely from the desert and Eremite affiliated). I could go deeper into what I think may have happened but for sake of brevity, it’s very possible and likely that one reason Kaeya was sent as a spy and to Mondstandt and not made an heir to the clan has to do with the fact that he’s an illegitimate child.
Okay, another additional note. Ragnvindr is a Norse name, make of that information what you will.
#sorry but I overthink everything#I have autism#genshin impact#Genshin spoilers#kaeya#khaenri'ah#wtf is going on#abyss order#I have questions#I’m not trying to be racist I’m only observing how the game itself uses skin tone#which is obviously a problem because dark skinned people exist in European countries#and don’t get me started on Sumeru and Natlan#im white but genuinely enjoy diversity because if everyone was like me that would be boring#all types of diversity like race gender age ability etc#if they’re gonna take from those cultures they should commit#point is that this is a separate issue#but something is still up with kaeya#im just observing what’s actually in the game#plus the clothes and stuff#like Kaeya’s alt outfit#no way that dude is Norse#also like geographically#if tayvat is similar enough to earth#it’s not gonna be 1 to 1#but you get the idea#when they made kaeya their either had some big lore planned or were just trying to be diverse and are now backpedaling#if he’s descended from Clothar and he’s normal age the curse must have faded through generations#also question where are all the other immortal people from that curse#where is Clothar#unless I missed something

A month ago I had the passing thought that I didn't like Taylor Swift when I was younger because I was behind her eras and it was a really casual observation then but every day I find new ways it's true
#college i would say was like my speak now-fearless era. swooningly and a bit shallowly romantic and discovering my voice#reading the most into the least and building up relationships in my imagination and so on (in a good young way)#so 1989 was way too cynical for me and i didn't like her at all#but then literally age 22 i fell in love with a 30 year old who jerked me around emotionally and then abruptly cut me off#and i bobbed my hair and got very girl power dismissive of men#and then had an identity-shattering event and had to pick up the pieces and find the faithful love at the bottom#and then had a whole bit about reclaiming my femininity and happiness and letting go of anger#and then! evermore came out and i had no idea about the cultural impact i just had heard people raving about her new sound#so i listened to it on a road trip and we were on the EXACT SAME PAGE. mind opened.#legit though i did a (tame and Christian) speedrun of red-1989-reputation in like a year and 2 months. yikes#taylor swift#maybe also this is why folklore doesn't super resonate with me. just didn't match my journey#(ugh sorry i hate talking about my Journey but one of our interns says it all the time and it gets stuck in my head)

I do actually have a few different concepts for how I would personally rewrite IBS. The basic difference being "How far do I want to stray from canon?"
At minimum, Braham shouldn't have been done dirty and instead it should've been a contest of control. No beating him up for Problematique Writing Reasons but protecting him until he can regain control of the Destroyers so they focus on Frost Legion instead of attacking everyone.
But if I had my full way, he wouldn't have turned to Primordus like that at all, and instead would have gotten that story of being the Oathbreaker and redeeming himself as the Norn who should unite his people against their greatest threat. With Jhavi acting as a sort of representation of the Norn with how she views him changing over the story and the big deal being when she believes he can lead, showing that her view of him has gone from Oathbreaker to worthy of the title Hero of Legend through his actions.
Add in conversations with the Commander where he both expresses his feelings about his parents, and also talks about how he gets how hard our job is now that he's in a similar position. Make the false Destiny's Edge he left behind far FAR more important to the story (like have one of them be the last boss we fight before Ryland and Jormag levels important). And you've got a genuinely solid experience that doesn't trivialize characters, gives more breathing room for future stories, and doesn't add in so many plot elements we lose the focus and completely abandon the lesser developed races in favor of "now we can go to Cantha to get all our gw1 fans back yay!"
#girlbob.txt#gw2#'but how would we handle primordus when the game says without jormag we can't stop him'#1. this is a video game and the writers can change things. retcons happen all the time. the 'one weakness' thing is a retcon itself#2. that's literally an excellent story device because it puts the asura in the perfect position to explore their strengths#especially with a certain asura on our team being fundamental to changing how we perceive dragons and magic in universe#now we have a norn/charr focused story specifically about how the norn have lost so much and the charr's war culture has led to this#and then a story after that's 'jormag forced our hand and we killed them wtf do we do now that primordus is waking up'#with a focus on a massively under developed race that NEEDED real screentime to explore their fucked up parts of their culture#and really put an impact on the 'elder dragons take so much from those they exist around' aspect#since in a well written story. taimi and braham would resonate over how much both of their cultures LOST due to the dragons#the game literally doesn't address just how much was lost when the asura had to fucking abandon their homes and come to the surface#and i think it'd be interesting if the game had explored the idea that the current society#is a result of their political leaders who were the most selfish surviving the exodus#and reframing it as their intelligence and how that makes them too valuable#but now i'm getting ahead of myself

[id: tweet from Lydia Sigwarth, @LibraryLydia: when you were 11 did you hand-write 3 chapters lf the first book of a planned trilogy and then completely forget about it until you discovered the notebook as an adult and were horrified or were you normal. End id]
#no but i did basically the worldbuilding wquovalent of that#i wrote like 6 handwritten back to back pages about a fantasy world(s) going into extreme detail about dwarves and elves and dragons#the dragons were really interesting. a lot of them were kinda based really deeply into their elements and were not based in research but#had very specific advantages/disadvantages much like real life animals#i left my notebook at the place i live but im visiting home rn but lemme try to remember#it was stuff like certain dragons being able to hear within certain ranges and how their cultures would develop around that#water dragons i think were deaf but had sensitivities to water currents so a their language was based around movement/gestures in the water#earth dragons were blind but sensitive to noise and could hear higher pitches compared to other dragons#a lot of my elves/dwarves were traditional#dwarves lived underground elves in trees#but dwarves to me had a very big respect/interest in medicine because living in close cramped limited airway spaces would really impact#health/hygiene#plagues and such would be devastating in that environment. not to mention rockslides/cave collpases#elves were long lives but their craftmanship impressive because it had to last a long time. lifetime guarantee from an elven craftsman like#thats amazing if you think about it#also i say world(s) because my ultimate goal was to make a medieval fantasy scifi. somehow#theres also a lot of. deeply misguided stuff in that journal. some very interesting ideas though#i enjoy rereading it#sadly i never got around to thinking about a vampire world 😔 it was ln the list tho

Is there anything I can do to help Palestinians besides call my representatives and beg them to stop killing people?
This is a great question. There are a few things you can do—just off the top of my head:
BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction) https://bdsmovement.net/
Direct Action https://www.palestineaction.org/
Urge your University/School/Organization to put out a statement denouncing Israel
Organize a Protest/Participate in a local one
You might already be doing this but while calling your reps, tell them that as a voter, you're unwilling to support them in the upcoming election unless they urge the White House to take a stand against Israel and stop funding them
Share art/writing/films around Palestinian culture
If you're part of a union, ask them what they're doing to urge their industry leaders to take a stand against Israel + pressure the White House OR urge them to start a strike/walkout/etc if they're not doing anything already
Talk with your friends IRL about Palestine, whether in an activist capacity or watching a movie or literally anything
Reach out to a mosque to see if you can help them with anything
See if your city/state council has put out a statement in support of Gazans. If not, try to push them to do so.
Donate to Palestine Legal or Direct Action if you have some money to spare
KEEP TALKING ON SOCIAL MEDIA!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know some of these don't feel like they have as big of an impact on helping Palestinians, but we do need to make an effort not to forget their humanity in the face of continued erasure and the media's sensationalist rhetoric.
Talking on social media and posting—while not seeming like a lot—does SO much. I know in USAmerica, it's like yelling into a void, but political analysts are saying that most of the "Global South" has completely lost any amount of goodwill it may have had the past few years. Hopefully, countries will start to put sanctions and embargoes en masse on the US and Israel soon.
Our goals here are BOTH short-term and long-term. We hope for the life and liberation of the Palestinian people, so anything that you can think of might help at some point in the future is encouraged to at least try.
If anyone else has any more ideas, feel free to reblog and add on. Thank you for asking, and here is to a liberated Palestine where Palestinians can live and thrive without fear.

I want, like, an over-the-top, going-to-feel-outdated-in-five-years-but-will-contain-kernels-of-startling-relevance novel about, like. A data broker.
#ive read this book from 2004 called so yesterday that's about like. trend cycles and advertising. and that sounds like it sucks#but its one of my favorite books and its genuinely such a fun read#theres a lot in it thats silly and unserious (and v fun) but it takes the culture of the time very seriously. i dont have the vantage point#to really determine any sort of truthfulness about the portrayal. but taking it at face value? theres a lot of respect and fascination and#appreciation. for trends and how they impact advertising. and vice versa. and what exists outside of that.#and it was fun to read that having had next to no interest in the subject.#anyway i want that but instead of selling stolen fashion ideas to brands make it like modern data brokering. brokeredge?

fascinating parts from this brennan interview about downfall
downfall was recorded in one week and brennan described it as "one of the most intense roleplaying experiences [he's] ever had"
if avalir was showcasing the age of arcanum, downfall will showcase the actual calamity
even though avalir and aeor seem similar on paper, brennan says the stories could NOT be more different. the themes, player motivations/briefings, and genres are completely unique
downfall embraces the nuance and complexity (moral and otherwise) of the gods and digs into the idea that the gods "called a truce" to fell aeor and what that actually means
brennan says aeor actually has a large population of refugees from the calamity by the time downfall takes place. however, they didnt have a large impact on the city's architecture and so by the modern era their cultures and presence in aeor (and wider exandria) have been almost entirely lost
overall downfall seems to focus on the ways that small errors in history can change a lot
brennan describes his experience with dm'ing in exandria as "going into a sandbox and creating the toys you're gonna to play with there"
the population of aeor is "demographically meaningfully different from who was living in aeor at the height of the age of arcanum," according to brennan. basically, not every aeorian will have bolo's accent (sad)
aeormatons will be in downfall in some way
setting, plot, and character backstories were worked on in tandem
on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of tragedy, brennan said downfall would need an entirely new axis. there is a "different kind of horror" in downfall, something that is distinct from "xenomorph chasing you horror"
brennan said "there are moments in downfall where i could feel my stomach wanting to drop out of my body"
#SCREAAAAMMM#aeor being a refugee stronghold is actually horrifying. the last bastion of the mortals and the gods just. destroyed. it. fuckedd upp...#critical role#downfall#ramblings#critical role downfall#aeor#brennan lee mulligan

i really do wish gentiles understood how utterly decimated the jewish diaspora was by the end of the 20th century in the wake of the wave of pogroms in eastern europe, the shoah and its aftermath, and the expulsions across north africa and south west asia. in the early 1900’s, around 50% of the world’s jewish population lived outside of eretz yisrael or the us. today, that number is 13%. there are countries who had large jewish populations at the turn of the 20th century that now have no jewish presence. there has not been such a large wave of expulsions and fleeing since the spanish inquisition — which is another horrifically traumatizing series of events that gentiles don’t understand the enormity of.
during the spanish inquisition, almost half a million jews were forced on pain of death to convert or flee. thousands were killed, hundreds of thousands fled. until the shoah, it was the single most massive trauma in jewish history since the siege of jerusalem and expulsion from judea. jews made up nearly a quarter of spain’s population and had been there for centuries. some of our most important texts were written there. ladino developed there, sephardic music, culture, and identity. and then it was gone. everywhere the inquisition could reach, from spain to naples to sicily to malta to the americas, the jewish populations were brutalized, genocided, and expelled. it changed the course of jewish history forever.
in the 20th century, within the span of 50ish years, hundreds of thousands of jews were killed in or fled horrific pogroms in eastern europe, a third of the entire jewish population was systematically murdered within the span of a few years, centuries old jewish communities weren’t just expelled but almost entirely wiped out which led to the loss of centuries old diaspora languages and traditions, and nearly a million jews were expelled from places they’d lived for hundreds or even thousands of years.
like. do you understand? do you understand the kind of communal trauma that kind of massive global upheaval has on a people? the expulsion of 300,000+ jews from spanish territories was enough to leave a centuries old mark on the jewish community. do you understand the impact that the murder of over six million and violent displacement of over 2 million jews will have on the jewish psyche and on jewish history? do you have any idea how earth shattering the last century has been for the jewish people? do you have any idea what we’ve lost? what’s been violently stolen from us? can you try?
