i have an important question for the fic writers of ao3.com. do you know you can breathe out of your nose? do you know that when you are making out with someone you do not have to hold your breath, right? RIGHT? It is very important to me that you know that. Unless your makeout partner is also holding your nose, you can breathe while you kiss. People do not need to stop making out because they run out of air. People breathe hard after they make out/in between kisses because that is a symptom of arousal. Not because they are literally short on air.

it is also normal to kiss for a while, then break apart, and then kiss again. maybe because you want to reposition, maybe you have a burning desire to use a very stupid pick up line on your partner, maybe you want to make eye contact for a sec, whatever. but it is not because YOU RUN OUT OF AIR. i know we can sometimes use the phrase "come up for air" when you are talking about pausing a very intense emotional or physical experience, including kissing. but this is not literal. I repeat. THIS IS NOT LITERAL. this is a figure of speech, and if I have to read one more fic where someone narrowly avoids suffocation by pausing the makeout only when they are blue in the face, presumably, I will lose my goddamn mind.
