Team X starting to talk about the best sexual exeprience they've had (it was one of those in between moments where they're waiting for the announcement of the next games) they don't know they even got to that conversation but talking about random things feels like they're just friends hanging out and it helps with the fears and anticipation. "Youngil" turns to Gihun and flirtingly asks about Gihun's sex life and after much coaxing by the others, he relates that there is someone. He met them some time ago, a cop who's younger than him. He was looking for his brother who was connected to the games and they were helping Gihun out with taking the games down. "Youngil" ALREADY knows who Gihun's talking about and he already has that "oh shit" expression on his face. THEN Gihun just starts talking about how good the younger man is in bed, how much stamina he has, like talks about the dude wanting to have sex like all the time. The worst part is Gihun was trying so hard to keep it PG but even then it was still TMI for an older brother. Gihun talks about how the young dude's cock never seems to stop being hard and "Youngil" wants to dig a hole for himelf. And lol when Gihun talks about how the guy was strong and sweet and lovely, and he might be falling for the guy, "Youngil" wants to die because what the hell was he supposed to do now. someone else could write it better than me but i love how the fucked up nasty shit you can make harry do/say/be in disco elysium isn't just like, random stuff caused simply by the player having free will and control over him but they're parts of who he is and who he has been

you're not a tabula rasa. you're a sudden shock of blank pages in a big, aged, damaged book and sometimes the paper you're trying to write a better man on is torn and you see something through the gaps nobody needed to see ever again. and it's just there now again, back to the surface

I’m sure this has been talked about before but the health system in Disco Elysium is so good at portraying Harry’s physical and emotional state. Like yeah, looking at bullet holes in a wall can give you a heart attack. Someone not liking you poem can cause a complete mental break. None of these things on their own will kill you, but your mental and physical state is so fragile that any one of them can be the final straw. The health system and the story convey what a mess Harry is in complimentary ways and it’s fucking awesome

And if something would actually kill or seriously maim you? The health system doesn’t get involved. You just die or get seriously maimed. You antagonize someone until they shoot you? Doesn’t matter how much medicine you have. Get shot in the leg? Yeah that’s gonna stick no matter how high your health is.

And of course the way that both low morale and low health can kill you- and the way that their mechanics are basically the same- shows Harry’s state as well. His mental and physical health are separate, but both can end his career and both are endangered every time he talks to someone or does anything even slightly dangerous.

In most video games, health functions to give you a second chance. Instead of dying outright from a bullet, you just lose health. Disco Elysium is the opposite. You will die outright from things that would kill you, and also if you aren’t keeping an eye on things you can die from the embarrassment of failing to make a jump! The health system is a way of emphasizing your fragility, not your strength. It’s super coo!!
