Shoutout to Long Face by the Vampire Lestat for being an actual real song that actually made it onto my top 100 songs this year btw. Do you think Lestat will make one of those little "thank you fans" videos to thank all of us who streamed his music?

One of the great things about fiber arts (at least to me) is that... you outright own the things you make. It's hard for me to comprehend actually owning something, and that's that. The item you have created doesn't need to come with strings attached (pun intended).
In a world where you are constantly buying things but not owning any of it, truly, it's such an odd experience to actually have ownership of your labour, time, and love like that.
#art#fiber art#crochet#honestly that's how i feel with my blanket still#like i don't own my subscription to spotify or the games i virtually purchased fullprice (which. why)...#...but when i get my yarn and i use the crochet hook i have been abusing a little i OWN the things it and i make#that's honestly kind of intimidating to me because i haven't truly felt i owned anything. like not even my life. it's a problem.#i just got some pretty yarn to use for a cardigan. they told me to use acrylic but i can't wear acrylic and i like cotton#<it's insane that i can just Decide to not use the pattern recommendations. like that's still crazy to me#anyway fuck capitalism and adopt a craft if you can#it's SUCH a freeing experience and it will make you feel crazy once you know what it feels like to actually own your labour. lol.#like it doesn't matter WHAT craft it is. could be knit. could be wood burning. could be abstract car manufacturing...#...as long as you can do it safely to your standards and you are satisfied and fulfilled with it then it can change you. let it change you.

something that i think goes really unappreciated about spotify is how over time you develop like a 6th sense for if someone who made a specific playlist is in a fandom. why do you in 2024 have barns courtney AND mitski AND kansas on the same playlist. and how is super hell.
#verite and crosses????? CHIOE AMENT? bombastic side eye#homestuck you can identify by the use of fergalicious and the old we didn't start the fire#to be clear this is a good thing. i love fandom-assigning people by their music taste. its funny and i know some people just get caught#in the crossfire by vicinity#because the other thing that will happen is if you listen to fandom songs 1 and 2 too many times spotify will rec fandom song 3#which is even funnier. your music taste is old man yaoi and disco eIysium and you don't even know.

Girl, help, the book authors are trying too hard to be "hip" with the fleeting "teen lingo" and trends again, immediately dating their works before they're even released
#eye twitching seeing certain modern slang in for real published books unironically#tiktokian slang that is out of date within weeks#it's a pet peeve of mine but so is modern books mentioning tiktok or stuff at all esp. when not relevant in general#god it pulls you out of the illusion#turns it into this very set in stone time frame rather than letting it just be or resonate on its own which is fine sometimes if natural#you can't avoid some mentions of some things when setting it today but in these cases it's so forced#hello fellow kidz.jpeg vibe in book form#books#this isn't even specific to ya books i've seen it in adult books as well#booklr#petty as i am i once stopped reading a first chapter excerpt for mentioning spotify by name on page 1 i'm sorry#this other book though oh they've used online phrases and boomer insult 3 times and brought up tiktok twice it's on thin f-ing ice#ignore me i'm petty but don't ignore me because this is a legit problem in the media industry#don't even get me started on text speak in the dialogue or texting sections yeah#it's not quite as bad if it's some fake variation of an app or just generic about being online but mentioning by name oh i'm gonna explode#most times anyway#i have yet to see it handled well#this was about slang though so tangent but !! gaah

i'll be honest, it is REALLY intimidating talking to other tmg fans. i'm the most deranged and obsessed fan out of anyone i know personally, but then talking to folks online lets me know i am a mere newborn deer in comparison. i'm trying to do my due diligence and look for as many deep cuts and hidden gems as i can, but i can never be as knowledgeable as some of the other folks on here and that is Scary.
#the mountain goats#tmg#it's also hard because like#i'm a competitive person in nature#and i like the fact that i know more about tmg than anyone i know#but stepping into the online space is scary because even with all of the knowledge i have#it cannot possibly compare to a lot of the other fans out there#it also doesn't help that when I'm just trying to listen to the goats for enrichment and enjoyment i just use spotify#but there are SO many good songs i know about and don't know about that i miss out on for my daily listening just bc they aren't on spotify#anyways#that's my spiel for today

waterparks blurbs from their fbr press release pack (2022)
BIO
For as much as Waterparks is a genre-busting collective of three friends who play music, hang out, and constantly flip the script, Waterparks really represents a bigger, dare we say, movement. The Houston trio— Awsten Knight, Otto Wood, and Geoff Wigington—have unassumingly brought vibrancy back to rock. (The only thing bolder than their melodies is whatever hair dye Awsten opted for this week!) Their strange magnetic pull has attracted a growing cohort of fans who pack sold out shows, stream their songs like crazy, and have even elevated them to multiple Billboard charts.
However, the next era begins with the band’s fifth full-length and debut album for Fueled By Ramen, headlining the Sad Summer Festival, an arena tour with My Chemical Romance, and even more adventures…
“Waterparks is so much fucking bigger than Otto, Geoff, and me,” muses Awsten. “However, it wouldn’t be Waterparks without the fans at the shows. It wouldn’t be Waterparks without the presence online. It wouldn’t be Waterparks without this awesome community. There are so many people who are a big part of this. It has completely evolved from where it started, and it feels massive to me. I’m lucky enough to guide it.”
Waterparks might just be the biggest band of tomorrow. They reached unprecedented heights with 2021’s Greatest Hits. Don’t let that title fool you—it didn’t collect their best-performing songs at a discounted price, but it did showcase their best material to date. As such, it moved 15K units first-week, cracked the Billboard Top 200 and landed in the Top 10 of the Top Alternative Albums Chart and Top Rock Albums Chart. In the wake of its release, they impressively eclipsed half-a-billion streams thus far. Beyond acclaim from Rolling Stone, MTV, Kerrang!, and Alternative Press, they graced the cover of V Magazine and Upset Magazine (who also awarded the record a “five-out-of-five star” perfect score!). Perhaps, NME summed it up best though, “Instead of celebrating the past, ‘Greatest Hits’ is opening the door to what comes next.” Along the way, they sold out various headline tours. 2022 saw the band sign to Fueled By Ramen and turn the page on a new chapter.
“Whereas I saw Greatest Hits as a dark indoor album, I see this next body of work as a light outdoor album,” he reveals. “There’s a bright vibe with very high energy to it. So much of what we do is about how it’s going to be experienced by the community. We did a lot of programming on the last record. I wanted to get more tactile and touch shit now,” he laughs. “I needed to hold a guitar and have the strings vibrating on my fingers.”
That brings us to the first single “FUNERAL GREY.” Powered by four different guitars (including a toy guitar for the main riff), the track swings like a wrecking ball from a buoyant verse into a distortion-lifted hyper-hypnotic hook, “She wore a sweater in summer weather. She wore a sweater. It was FUNERAL GREY!”
“This is—and I fucking hate the term—more love-driven,” he confesses. “It’s a reintroduction, and it’s more about other people than just me. When I wrote the song, I was walking around my friend’s neighborhood. I was laughing, because it looked so haunted—like something out of an M. Night Shyamalan movie. I thought, ‘If this was an Instagram filter, it would be ‘Funeral Grey’.’ It’s got a dark title, but I love how bright it sounds. To me, that’s Waterparks.”
In the end, the new music is meant for the people comprising this greater movement—like everything Waterparks do.
“When you listen to us, I just want you to feel good,” Awsten leaves off. “It’s bouncy shit. Even if it’s aggressive, it’s enthusiastic. There’s a lot of energy behind this. I try to make music that tingles people’s fucking brains, which is what my favorite music does for me.”

i love bratz as dolls but i fuckin hate mga as a brand. fuckin idiots
#u make it so hard for me to play with my dollies. evil!!#tales from diana#i am like honestly thinking about how many stupid decisions that brand has made in the past year and like#the fact that they have the gall to be snide about their fans' complaints in a little spotify wrapped meme#girl...#U KEEP BEING STUPID!!!!!#i miss the energy they had like 2 years ago#even their repros recently have been getting so obviously worse#who the hell was asking for more babyz. who was doing that?#like if anything bratz babyz were like a kitsch embarrassing piece of toy history to remind ppl#that yeah even though theyre like a millennial girly twitter meme now. bratz was once unambiguously a brand for kids#and they made stupid toys for kids including but not limited to cunty little baby dolls#not to hate on them for existing at the time. hell i even had them as a kid but i didnt like them as much as the real bratz#and the way they did a poll on which line they should reproduce next and tokyo a go go won and they went and made slumber party anyway#probably because it was cheaper i assume!!! and it's like so silly bc like if youre an adult collector brand now... why do you think#that we want dolls in pajamas? theyre cute but that's not as fun to display as like legitimate fashion pieces#and all their legit collector releases being an asbolute mess#kylie being overstocked and flopping and then the manufactured scarcity for the mean girls and karol g releases#that were all bought up by scalpers in 2 seconds and sold on ebay for several times the original price#but mga doesnt care bc it's like oh we can say 'we sold out' 💅 yeah idiots because of BOTS u did nothing to circumvent#all this and their new dolls arent even as good as their old ones. like alwayz bratz... i was really happy for it but i gotta be so for rea#they're fine. they're cute. but they are NOT on the quality of 2000s bratz at all. theyre so obviously cheaper#and we don't even get the second outfits anymore which was such a staple of the fashion mixing-and-matching originally#it's not even the same brand anymore but they wanna act like they're the hottest shit in the world. best thing to ever happen to dolls#oh please. u will never be barbie. u can't put us through all this and expect endless fawning and support#i just wish the secondhand market for bratz were any better but it's actually worse. so. yaaaaaay

Local libraries getting rid of physical medias such as newspapers, magazines, cds, dvds, and audiobooks is turning experiencing art into a privilege instead of a right but I don't think you guys are ready for that conversation
#the 95 year old lady who takes the city bus from the old folks home three times a week doesn't have spotify or a smartphone or a computer#how is she going to listen to her johnny cash cds#do you know how many kids I attended school with didn't have internet or wifi???#that wasn't even that long ago#they do not have streaming services stop getting rid of dvds and stop not buying new ones#also there are so many people who have a smart phone and the only thing they know how to do is call or text#if they want to keep using audiobooks let them! It's not killing you that they're not using libby#yes libby and hoopla and kanopy are great but the latter two have limited checkouts and the former usually has long waits#its not fair to expect older people and children learn how to use them if they don't want to or can't!#also magazines are basically unreadable online#so many girls will not be able to experience borrowing american girl magazines from the library because the library doesn't have magazines!#also don't even get me started on no newspapers#sorry I don't have the money for a monthly subscription to a newpaper guess I just won't know the news now#this is why everyone is getting fake news from twitter!#"but everyone has spotify and streaming services and audible and wifi and internet and smartphones and ipads and laptops#newsflash! they don't!#getting rid of physical media from libraries is actually very classist and ageist but people don't want to hear that#I love local libraries and think they are an amazing resource in so many ways#and that's why it hurts so much that they would leave such a large portion of their customers high and dry to maybe save a few bucks#rant#tags so long they probably could've been their own post lol
