what sort of things might a clan cat take for morning sickness? i'm trying to do my own research but all the plants i'm finding that are used for folk remedies to deal with nausea either don't grow anywhere near where i need them or are probably dangerous for pregnant people!
Unfortunately you're not finding anything because there really isn't a good treatment for morning sickness, known scientifically as NVP-- Nausea/Vomiting of Pregnancy. Just folk remedies, which could work decently as a placebo.
Even its cause is unknown. There's a theory that it's supposed to discourage the carrier from eating anything that might harm the fetus during the most sensitive early periods. You don't want to take a risk on eating anything WEIRD when your stomach is extra sensitive, makes sense. There's some evidence that ties it to fluctuations in reproductive hormones, too. But we're still kinda unsure about it.
So my prescription is for your Clan to choose an herb that doesn't actually do anything (I'd suggest dandelions or maybe wild carrots, something with some vitamins) and put that into a bone broth. Something bland but nutritional, and most importantly, hydrating. Bad NVP can really dehydrate the carrier.
In fact there's a severe form of NVP. It's called Hyperemisis Gravidarum; it means you can't stop vomiting. HG is a potentially life threatening pregnancy complication.
HG can cause a pregnant person to lose weight, develop jaundice, anemia, kidney failure, blood conditions like thrombosis or an embolism, or even muscle atrophy. This is a deadly complication but there's still NO particular cure.
If you're looking at HG instead of NVP, the carrier will need to be exclusively on bland broths so they can keep it down. Antihistamines are used as medication, and the BEST herb for that is processed Stinging Nettle.
(Nettle btw is actually an extremely important herb and I've talked about how to harvest it, using Sneezecloud as an example because he requires it for his allergies.)
Stinging Nettle is common as an introduced plant in most temperate environments, but if you don't have that in your chosen biome, do some research into plants used to treat allergies. Those will be a good source of antihistamine.
But, I'm not messing around with how hard NVP and HG are to treat. If HG doesn't respond to that, you may need to consider an abortion-- but keep in mind that the later term the abortion, the more dangerous it will be.
HG is rare, thankfully!! But pregnancy is a dangerous time. Less dangerous for cats, but still dangerous nonetheless.
(Yes btw, cats can develop both of these conditions. It's rarer than in humans though, since we're pretty uniquely fucked up as a species in terms of reproduction)

Blues Thoughts
Hey Y’all I’m back! I’ve been in hospital over and over again these last few weeks due to dehydration. I once again have Hyperemisis Gravidarum with this pregnancy so I’m just sick all day everyday and had to have a couple of IVs.
With the right combo of 4 anti-emetics, other meds to settle my stomach and some hormones, i'm now only sick of a morning. The nausea is constant but I can cope with that.
I’ve started writing again so although uploads will be slower as I only have a few hours in the afternoon that I’m able to focus, at least I’ll be putting chapters out.
Thank you for bearing with me

Hi Gee I hope you’re well. I finally had a chance to gravitate back here and I’m glad to be reading through everything! I hope you’ve been well soo far. I’ve been thinking about Harry and how he would react if the missus caught a bug whilst also having something like hyperemisis gravidarum & how cute & concerned he would be about her health. Imagine if he can’t be there if he’s on tour, he would be soo torn and upset & those FaceTime calls. Or if they already had Darcy & this was with the twins.
Hi, baby! Thank you for stopping by again! I've been good! I hope you're doing okay as well.
PLEASE THAT WOULD BE AWFUL. 🥹 Because I'm sure it's likely that she would have go to get IV fluids at some point and he'd be so stressed and worried for her going through all that.

My daughter had to be induced almost 2 weeks early because this occurred “suddenly” according to my midwife...
Except it didn’t. I’ve always had low blood pressure, until I had noticed it creeping up higher and higher my entire third trimester. Doctors shrugged it off.
I suffered from hyperemisis gravidarum the first two trimesters. I lost almost 20 pounds the first few months of pregnancy. Suddenly when I hit third tri, docs were telling me I was gaining too much too fast. Between one appointment and then next, it shifted from “you need to gain more weight” to “you’ve gained too much already, and too fast”. My last few appointments they told me I was 10-15 pounds over what I was supposed to safely gain and to eat less, even after telling them I was already barely eating due to the lingering HG. They both admitted I didn’t *look* like I had gained too much weight, but regardless just insisted I eat less and try to exercise when I felt better
My legs got insanely huge. Painful with swelling Barrels. I wasn’t sure if it was all fluid or if that’s where i was suddenly storing extra weight (the weight they told me I was gaining too much of). I told both docs. Both just shrugged it off...until my midwife discovered protein in my urine on Tuesday and had me go into L&D Thursday night (she literally called me at 9:30pm). I was hooked up to machines, tests were run. My urine protein content was through the roof (900 when they expect it to be less than 11) and my blood pressure never dipped below 130/89 (insanely high for me, but manageable according to the midwife) and 150/100.
She almost let me leave because the nurse in triage didn’t register my higher BPs for some reason. She caught it (thank god) and decided to actually look at the swollen legs I’d been complaining about for weeks. Turns out I had massive pitting edema. I was admitted, induced and had my daughter within 12 hours of arriving at the hospital.
I was so thankful they caught it, but also mad that it took so long.
I lost 30 pounds by 1 week post partum. The weight I gained was all fluid, a symptom of preeclampsia, missed in lieu of assuming I was lying and overindulging. I now weigh less than I did before I got pregnant (thanks to the HG). I want to email my doctors and tell them to suck it, that I was telling the truth.
I don’t know why I felt compelled to word vomit this all out. Maybe to help someone searching the preeclampsia tag like I did.
I’m so thankful that it was caught, even if it was late in the game, and that I never had super scary symptoms.
Here’s some baby tax for reading this far. My daughter, born at 38+4 weeks via induction for “sudden” preeclampsia. She’s healthy. We’re happy.
Trust your gut guys, and fight better than I did for yourself and your baby if you suspect something isn’t right.
Pre-eclampsia is characterised by high blood pressure and protein leaking into the urine during pregnancy, which can become life-threatening for both mum and baby. ⠀ ⠀ The blood supply to the placenta develops abnormally, limiting blood flow to the developing fetus instead of increasing it. This stunts growth, releases inflammatory factors, and results in rising blood pressure which can wreak havoc around the body.⠀ ⠀ Medics check blood pressure often during pregnancy to catch and manage pre-eclampsia early. It can be treated by good blood pressure control, and often an earlier delivery of the baby is planned.⠀ ⠀ If anyone has experienced this - what might you want medics to know about what it was like? And medics, how might you explain the condition differently?⠀

I have to start insulin for the gestational diabetes. This happened with my last pregnancy as well so I expected it.
My feet and ankles are suddenly so swollen they can’t fit it any of my shoes and now I need to go buy a new pair of flip-flops so that I can wear shoes. My blood pressure is great, so it’s just pregnancy swelling and I don’t think the heat helps as it got really hot these past few days and we don’t have good air conditioning. The swimming pool should be ready soon though and I actually love swimming so I plan to get as much use out of that as possible before the new baby arrives.
I still have hyperemisis gravidarum. I can sometimes keep small amounts of foods down. I drink a lot of powerade zero right with occasional nutrition shakes. Foods I usually keep down currently are watermelon, cookie dough poptarts, french fries, and pretzel sticks. Not great. I still feel sick everyday and forcing food in is a struggle.
I have gained a total of 14 pounds this pregnancy at almost 34 weeks. When pregnant with Liam I gained a total of 50 pounds and I did not have hyperemesis. Most of my maternity clothes are still loose on me this pregnancy and I even fit into some of my pre-pregnancy clothes still.
When pregnant with Liam I had some blood pressure issues in the end and PUPPS rash but do not have those this time.
I have mine and the baby’s hospital bags mostly packed. I have almost everything I need for her except a couple small items. It’s been difficult getting ready for her with how sick I am and these annoying preterm contractions. I have been doing my best to get things done around the house, work on my career as a writer, and taking care of Liam.
I still have a lot of preterm contractions, another thing I did not really have last pregnancy. I had some back labor contractions for the first time and thought I had a kidney issue they hurt so bad. I went to the hospital but I wasn’t dilated still which is good.
And fatigue has returned. Fatigue is another thing that has been bad this pregnancy and I did not have fatigue much with my last pregnancy.
I will miss my belly and feeling her move. Though with Liam I felt him move a lot and Laura doesn’t move much. Her movements are a lot more subtle too, more like she is stretching a lot rather than giving hard kicks. It could be my anterior placenta this time around or maybe she is just a lazier baby. Liam was hyper in the womb and is still full of energy.
Me and my sisters took Liam to the beach for the first time. I could only stay an hour but it was fun. Poor Liam was afraid of the ocean and too afraid to walk on the sand. He still had fun though. He was even afraid of his little kiddie pool that I dragged out and filled up for him again this summer. He’s probably going to be afraid at first getting back into the big pool again too but hopefully he’ll get used to it fast. He wasn’t afraid last year.
Liam is trying to say more words. He is full of energy and constantly moving. He loves Paw Patrol and climbing on things. He loves running around outside. He still is a very picky eater and though he gave up the binky after chewing through his favorite one, he is still attached to the bottle. I keep trying to get him to let go of the bottle but it’s a struggle. He is quite stubborn. But he can also be very sweet. He likes to cuddle with me and read books with me on the couch when I’m resting. He thinks my big belly makes a good pillow. He will be awfully surprised when he gets a new baby sister soon.
I still wish I could have enjoyed this pregnancy more like I enjoyed being pregnant with Liam, but I have accepted it. I have accepted that this will be my last pregnancy and am grateful for the two kids I will have. Being a mom is the best thing in the world and I’m so blessed, especially since I thought I would never be able to be a mother. I love Liam and this little girl more than anything. I look forward to meeting her. I look forward to feeling better physically and being able to eat normally again after she is born. I look forward to trying breastfeeding again and hoping it goes better this time. I’m not exactly sure what to expect having two kids but look forward to figuring it all out.
I haven’t had an ultrasound in a long time now but will have one next week and every week until she is born. Now that I’m on insulin I will get two appointments a week- twice weekly stress tests and once weekly ultrasounds. The same when I was pregnant with Liam. I am eager to see her face and how big she is now and if she looks like Liam. I love her so much already.

Kate Middleton Gives Birth To Third Child
Getty
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has given birth to her third child and it’s a boy!
The new royal baby is Prince William and Kate’s third child, and a younger sibling to four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte.
Kate gave birth at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, which is known for its extreme privacy, where the royal couple’s other children were born.
Kensington Palace tweeted the news:
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs.
The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz.
The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.
The Duchess was admitted to the hospital this morning (April 23) when she entered the early stages of labour.
She has been on maternity leave since March 22 with her last royal visit being to a charity lunch in London.
Kate did not know until the birth whether she was having a boy or girl.
For the first time in history, the sex of the latest addition will not change who is next in line for the throne.
Male heirs now do not take precedence over female ones thanks to 2013’s Succession to the Crown Act.
Prince Harry though now moves down to sixth in line due to the new arrival which has bumped him from the number five spot.
Just like her two previous pregnancies, Kate experienced hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) during the first few months which is an extreme form of morning sickness.
Affecting roughly two per cent of all expecting mothers, symptoms include constant nausea, severe vomiting and weight loss.
The condition meant Kate had to spend three days in hospital while pregnant with George but thankfully was well enough to avoid it during her second and third pregnancies.
instagram
The Duchess was subjected to vile online abuse when she made her first public appearance following the announcement of her third pregnancy.
Despite suffering from HG, Kate attended a reception at Buckingham Palace for World Mental Health Day (October 10) with photos of the event appearing on the Kensington Palace official Instagram account.
‘Lady99alta’ criticised Kate’s weight and health writing:
There is no such thing as morning sickness. HG is caused by severe malnutrition and vitamin deficiency. Look it up in Wikipedia.
When Catherine admits publicly she is an anorexic and has a severe eating disorder only then I will take her mental health campaign seriously.
She is more 30 lbs underweight and is well known for not eating and exercising for hours on end.
It is physically impossible to be as emaciated and malnourished as she is and grow a healthy baby. It doesn’t happen.
instagram
However among the hateful posts some people, many of whom had suffered from HG, wanted to put the record straight and commented on how lovely Kate looked.
‘Aliciacourtney_’ for instance wrote:
You have no idea what you’re talking about. As someone who has suffered hyperemisis more than once I really feel for the poor woman. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
Oh and I was perfectly healthy before falling pregnant, no deficiencies or lack of weight here so that throws that theory in the bin.
I’m sorry Kate you’ve had to go through HG again but it’s nice to know that even princesses can suffer trying to bring a beautiful baby in the world.
It takes pure determination to keep going when you feel beyond horrid day in day out. Ignore the hate. People often criticise what they don’t understand.
Hear, hear indeed!
instagram
The child’s name is set to be announced in the coming days.
Congratulations to the family!

Artemis’s Home Remedies : Shop Until You Feel Better
I have started treatment for Hyperemisis Gravidarum, but I am still very ill. Thankfully, I have the most amazing best friend ever who is trying to distract me with adorable baby gear. I was a bit concerned about shopping so early with a high risk pregnancy, but Artemis pointed out that we are praying for a miracle so we can shop for a miracle, too. Plus, I really should start early so I…
