Day Two at Hyper Japan
July 2023 Day two has been a very long day. Doors opened at 9am and we stayed there until 8pm. We were on site for 8:30, set up was much simpler as overnight we just put sheets over everything to protect all our stock from dust. So it was mostly a little tidy up. Alright BG3/MHA AU.
All Might is told by his future successor he would much rather tell his parents about his new Quirk and everything that happens with it. Worried but understanding the concerns he agrees. When he goes to the house, he's met not just with Midoriya In’Ko but also her husband Gale and their wife Karlach. Oh and their friends Shadowheart, Astarion, Jaheria, Minsc, Lae’zel, Halsin and Wyll!
AKA: In’ko is a Githyanki Tav who left Faerun with her partners because the bombs inside them went dormant being in a world with less ambient magic. They found Izuku who'd been abandoned for being Quirkless and took him in. In’ko took the name Midoriya and no one questions it since they kind of just think she has a mutation Quirk.
While the trio live in Japan, their friends don’t. They visit though through a portal and love their nephew.
Funny enough, Izuku has barbarian training from Karlach. He's got a lot of rage from his treatment and she decided to teach him to harness it. He ends up being a wild magic barbarian solely cause I think it would be funny.
So Izuku is getting OFA as well as being a barbarian. In’ko and the others after a while let All Might in on the truth who ends up helping them solidify their adoption and hides the info Izuku was adopted. Good thing to when his bio parents try to claim him back when he wins the sports festival later. Turns out his bio dad (Hisashi) is Endeavour’s cousin who tries to get him to help.
Endeavour refuses because a) he doesn't like his cousin. And b) because he only wants Shouto to be the shinning new star of the Todoroki family and he's furious that Izuku turned his son into a chicken with his ‘energy surge’ from the power up during their fight.
There's a lot of shit that goes down with the Midoriya family though to. Gale is the only one with any real childhood among the parents (Karlach did have good parents herself but she was working for Gortash as a teenager and being sold into slavery) but he also was taken advantage of by his mentor which took years to understand. He's hyper aware of All Might who takes one look at this guy and how he acts, going: ah I see. Trauma.
In’ko was raised to kill her fellow kids and be a soldier. She is still soft and kind but her hard edges are there.
Nezu also ends up learning of them and helps solidify their papers while also making them seem like heroes who have retired from covert ops. It actually works for them since they can reference their adventures.
“Right the time we had to over throw that politician who was trying to murder everyone.”
“I wonder how Dame Alyin is doing now that we freed her from being used as a battery due to her powers. Haven't heard from her in a while.”
“Jaheira called. There's a mission to do a raid on a trafficking compound. She's asking if I can lend some fire power. I'll be gone for a bit.”
Just… Izuku being raised by three traumatized people who love him dearly and him just being a little barbarian they're so proud of.

It's already Chrysler here in Japan, but it's not particularly festive save for the snow outside. I plan on making Tacos and rewatching the Sailor Moon Cosmos Movies. You know, to really keep with the holiday spirit.
I have so much planned for 2024 and Sailor Star Fighter isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I want to keep posting ALLLL the Sailor Starlights content until I'm sick of it and hyper fixate on something new. As if that's ever gonna happen--

Just watched the Hetalia musical!
It was fun, though I had no idea what was going on sometimes lol. It didn’t take itself completely seriously, and was good goofy fun.
If I had any complaints it would be the aforementioned at times confusing story. Or maybe that’s just because I couldn’t hear what everyone was singing half the time. The main story was about Japan being chosen to host an international festival, and trying to find what’s so unique about himself. And this somehow results in him falling back in time. There was this whole “Open the country, stop having it be closed” mini-arc that I didn’t know how it connected to the whole thing about Japan finding his uniqueness. They could have made it relevant; like maybe Japan has realized how unique he is and goes too far in the other direction, deciding that to preserve his culture he’s going to remain closed, and he has to learn that he needs his friends too, but from what I could gather that wasn’t what they were going for. Or maybe it was? Idk really.
Also man they flanderized Ame badly. He was a brute in this! Like he didn’t even care when Japan disappeared, WTF America??? That’s one of your best friends like??? Also Past!America was trying to prevent the Axis Stooges from returning to the present because… Reasons? Seriously Ame why are you such a jerk here?! Also I swear China was way more hyper in the opening scene than I’d ever expect him to be (Like there was a gag at the beginning where he and Italy were like “Uneasiness? Like the uneasiness of wanting to go to the bathroom oh no we forgot!” and run around goofily). Though that didn’t last long, and he appeared to act slightly like his old salty self, at least in the past, at least what I know of his old personality, after the fact. And Ned was way more cheerful, though that’s not a complaint. Also I kind of wish the JP fandom didn’t push the whole Axis thing still. …And they mistook tomatoes as being North American lmao. Those come from South America, writers!
As mentioned, the story was about Japan finding himself basically. It really was a story made for Japanese audiences and to pull at Japanese heartstrings lol. Also, the actors were really cute. Especially Japan and China. Man Japan was so smol. Though Ame and China’s voices were really jarring to me because wow they were low. Like I’m expecting them to be these tenors and then bam, I hear these goddamn baritone voices come out of their mouths. It’s not bad, just jarring and hard to get used to. Italy and Spain and England’s actors were clearly trying their best to match the anime though. And I remember saying Ame’s singing was… Eh in another Hetamyu clip I saw, but everyone was great here!
Also man the Netherlands fans were eating good tonight! On the other hand, as soon as the characters started talking about how “The world is uneasy recently” in the opening scene I immediately noticed the giant Russia-shaped hole in the cast. His lack of presence was pretty noticeable. Is it because of current events…?
I found it kind of funny that Past!China was like “You don’t have to copy me to the letter you know?” (and at one point quips something like “What is there to copy about me?”) because of how I write Imperial China and how Imperial China was in history, and I’m pretty sure it was the opposite in canon too lol. This was in response to how Japan basically goes the opposite direction of nationalism and is like “Being unique is too hard, imma copy China for the rest of my life”, which was also funny also because of how I write him (then again so was the entire central story of how he doesn’t know who he is and what’s so unique about himself).
But yeah it was a great time. Btw the climax involved past!China appearing out of nowhere and having an epic ping-pong battle with Japan. On Mt. Fuji. And Japan and the rest of the Axis trio are there because supposedly volcanic eruptions release enough energy to create wormholes. Because screw you it’s that type of show. I’m not complaining, that was awesome.

BLOGTOBER 10/15/2023: DOOR (1988)

I saw a new restoration of this movie at a midnight show that was part of the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. It seems to have been enjoyed as a classic of its type in Japan but was rarely seen elsewhere, and it deserves a MUCH more thorough and thoughtful write-up than I'm about to give it--but please take this remark as a sign that you should see it if you can! Filmmaker Banmei Takahashi and his actress wife Keiko both broke out of the pink film demimonde and into the mainstream in the early 1980s, and in DOOR one sees shades of their past--it's a lean, efficient thriller starring an imperiled female and a perverted maniac--and also their superior talents. Frankly, I just enjoyed everything about this movie, from its eye-catching location to its infectious music to the excellent set that was tailor-made for Keiko Takahashi and her co-star Daijiro Tsutsumi to chase each other around without the action ever becoming repetitive or implausible. And on top of all that, the script is so sharp that it feels fresh and relevant even 35 years later.

Takahasi plays a housewife whose husband is nearly invisible due to his high-pressure tech career. They live in an apartment complex where her only company, besides her young son (Takuto Yonezu, who is just as good as anybody else in this movie), is an army of intrusive telemarketers. She struggles to maintain the sanctity of her home, shutting down cold callers with increasing vigor until she pushes one of them over the edge. For the frustrated, futureless Daijiro Tsutsumi, being rejected by Takahashi shreds the final thread of his sanity, and he wages a campaign of terror that begins on the phone and transforms into a home invasion. The plot makes sense in the context of the hyper-capitalized Japan of the 1980s, but its themes of eroded privacy, escalating greed, and the dehumanizing effects of wage slavery make DOOR feel like a film that could have come out yesterday. Takahashi makes a wonderful heroine, as attractive and stylish as she is intelligent and independent; at every turn she does exactly what anyone would do to protect herself and her family, never "asking for" what happens to her, and yet it all happens anyway--just like it's happening to us all as our information is bought and sold, rightfully-earned possessions are converted into subscription services, and data-based products like movies and music are practically on loan to us by the corporations we pay to own them. DOOR definitely foresees our modern world, in which advertisements pop up even on pause screens, and telemarketers from other countries can call us all day long with impunity. See it if you can! The real horror is in how relatable it is.

i went to LAGC yesterday! decided to go yesterday instead of today because i thought that merch wouldn't be quite as "plentiful" on the second day. i've decided next year we're just gonna go to HJ instead LOL.
it waas decent! it was pretty busy, and the setup was almost the exact same as last year, but there wasn't really "much" i was interested in because (understandably) it was pretty filled with mainstream/popular stuff. lots of nge, re:zero, jjk, just a huge amount of miku everywhere, and some sao. there was quite a lot of "older" figures which was really charming, but nothing that i could justify buying, which was a shame.
i did see a figure i was interested in, the sakura miku lamp with the battery lightup, but a literal thirteen year old brought it before i could look into it AHAHA she seemed really happy though so actually i'm really glad it was her who got it, i'm just happy i got to see it in person because she was a lot bigger than i was expecting for a prize fig.
the issue being that if i get a miku fig i wantto get "the miku fig to end miku figs" so i feel content with not getting any more, so i'm trying to figure out what figure of her i'd actually want. i guess deep sea girl, but actually my dream figure would be her bottle figure with the water/fish in her hair, its just a gk though orz.)

I love these bags a lot, I collect My Melody and would love er version of this bad so I'm really glad you got it. I've also seen the Klee scale at cons a few times (I went to Doki Doki Festival yesterday and saw they had a raffle for one and thought about you) so I hope you can get her soon. I'm glad you had a good time, I understand it's nice to go to cons just to walk around. Also I know how much it sucks to watch someone else buy something you want from in front of you LOL. I like a decent amount of popular series but it's rare that I can justify buying something I know I can get for half the price online. Older figures tend to be be cheaper anyway at cons. It's honestly really nice to just see stuff in person though. I'm glad you had a good time. I really recommend Hyper Japan, I might see if I can make it for November so you might see me there if you go then!!

Translating you into flower language.
Flowers and plants are one of my hyper-fixations and here I will be associating some characters with them.
TMGAHBS
Ying Hongri – Bamboo. One of the Four Gentlemen as well as the Three Friends In Winter, this plant is associated with summer in chinese culture. It symbolizes tenacity, modesty and uprightness as well as perseverance in harsh conditions. It has multiple uses in one’s daily life and is quite a strong material.
Shen Yue – Osmanthus. The osmanthus flower is associated with legends relating to the moon in China; the moon festival is celebrated in the 8th month of the chinese calendar, and as the osmanthus is the representative flower of said month, some dishes prepared with osmanthus flavoring are shared between family members who gather to view the moon when it is at its fullest, and offerings are made to the lunar deity Chang’e. The 8th lunar month is named after the osmanthus flower. (Very brief and incomplete summary, my apologies, I can't fit everything here.)
Kuyaş | Nar - Tulip. Native to central asia, this flower has a rich history. In the tale of Ferhat and Şirin, a series of events lead to Ferhat being lied to about Şirin’s death, the young man killing himself after hearing the heartbreaking news. Şirin, who sees Ferhat’s corpse, decides to join him in death. Tulips blossomed from every single drop of blood, symbolizing an eternal love. (This story has quite a few versions.) Tulips symbolized heaven on earth in turkish culture, as well as consuming love. Yellow tulips used to represent jealousy and hopeless/unrequited love but their meaning has changed over time, now representing sunshine and happiness.
Qemer – Water lily. This is one of the birth flowers for the month of july, which is when Qemer was born. It symbolizes rebirth and renewal, as well as enlightenment – although similar in meaning, it differs from the lotus flower. It can also signify eloquence as well as purity. Since the flower uniquely thrives in water and is associated with july, one could argue it’s linked to the moon as well.
Akahira Taiyou – Sunflower. I like the gap between this vibrantly coloured, cheerful-looking flower and Taiyou’s quiet, stern disposition. In Japan, this flower represents loyalty, perseverance and adoration. These traits fit him quite well. Funnily enough, this flower is named “ayçiçeği” in turkish, which literally translates to “moonflower.” It’s also named “günebakan” which translates to “who looks at the sun.”
Akay Yazar – Moonflower. Subtlety is my strong suite, if you couldn’t tell. Jokes aside, this nocturnal flower which emits a sweet smell is associated with love, spiritual enlightenment and dreams. Mysterious and elegant. It can signify dreaming of love.

I thought about what I wanted to eat in advance、but as soon as all the delicious food was in front of me I just wanted to eat it all🤤笑笑lollol

This is、a rice bowl with green onion tuna yukhoe!
The green onion tuna melted in the mouth、and combining it with the egg yolk made it just incredible 🥰
Also、I ate seafood yakisoba、fried squid、crab、and various other foods too!😋
They were all delicious!
