Childhood best friends Anna and Olivia were just 15 years old when they met Ricardo. He was older, charming and good-looking – and Anna and Oliva were easy prey. Manipulated, groomed and abused, within three years he had pimped the girls into the neon-lit windows of Amsterdam’s red light district.

The Nordic Model by Trine Rogg Korsvik and Ane StÞ
Tumblr media
In this book, feminists activists write about their enduring struggle for the abolition of prostitution. River of Flesh and Other Stories edited by Ruchira Gupta
Tumblr media

Not for Sale: Feminists resisting prostitution and pornography edited by Christine Stark and Rebecca Whisnant
Tumblr media
This collection of essays connect feminist perspectives on the sex industry with radical critiques of racism, poverty, militarism, and unbridled corporate capitalism, and shows how the harms of prostitution and pornography are amplified by modern technologies.
The Natashas: Inside the new global sex trade by Victor Malarek
Tumblr media
They’re the third most profitable black market commodity, after illegal weapons and drugs. They are women and girls, some as young as 12. They are sold into prostitution and kept enslaved; those who resist are beaten, raped, and sometimes killed as examples. In many cases, the men who should be rescuing them –from immigration officials to police officers and international peacekeepers – are among their aggressors.
The Johns: Sex for sale and the men who buy it by Victor Malarek
Tumblr media
This book dispels the myths that justify prostitution and puts on display the rationales of ordinary johns, their beliefs, their behaviours, and their astounding brotherhood. It also shows us the darker side: the rise of sex tourism, the predators, the role of the Internet. Lambasting the pro-prostitution lobby, he explains why legalising prostitution can lead only to the greater enslavement of women.
The Industrial Vagina by Sheila Jeffreys
Tumblr media
“This is an insightful analysis into the globalization and industrialization of the modern sex industry. Sheila Jeffreys makes the connections between prostitution, marriage, pornography, strip clubs, and sex tourism and how they all combine to exploit women who are most harmed. This book opens a window on global sexual exploitation and the institutions that support it.” Janice G. Raymond
The Idea of Prostitution by Sheila Jeffreys
Tumblr media
This book investigates the claims of the pro-prostitution movement and the burgeoning sex industry, arguing that the sex of prostitution is not just sex; the work of prostitution is not ordinary work; and prostitution is a choice for the men who abuse rather than for the prostituted women.
See The Idea of Prostitution: Q&A with Sheila Jeffreys and Rose Hunter.

Tumblr media
Wendy Barnes was introduced to sex trafficking by her first love, the father of her children. Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity by Robert Jensen
Tumblr media
In our culture, porn makes the man. So argues Robert Jensen in Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity. Jensen’s treatise begins with a simple demand: “Be a man.” It ends with a defiant response: “I chose to struggle to be a human being.” The journey from masculinity to humanity is found in the candid and intelligent exploration of porn’s devastating role in defining masculinity. You can download a free PDF of this book from Robert Jensen’s website.
Surrogacy
Surrogacy: A Human Rights Violation by Renate Klein

Tumblr media
“In this eloquent and blistering rejection of surrogacy, a range of international activists and experts in the field outline the fundamental human rights abuses that occur when surrogacy is legalised and reject neoliberal notions that the commodification of women’s bodies can ever be about the ‘choices’ women make.”

By and for men
The End of Patriarchy: Radical Feminism for Men by Robert Jensen
Tumblr media
“The End of Patriarchy asks one key question: what do we need to create stable and decent human communities that can thrive in a sustainable relationship with the larger living world? Robert Jensen’s answer is feminism and a critique of patriarchy. He calls for a radical feminist challenge to institutionalized male dominance; an uncompromising rejection of men’s assertion of a right to control women’s sexuality; and a demand for an end to the violence and coercion that are at the heart of all systems of domination and subordination. The End of Patriarchy makes a powerful argument that a socially just society requires no less than a radical feminist overhaul of the dominant patriarchal structures.”
The Macho Paradox: Why some men hurt women and how all men can help by Jackson Katz
“With integrity and courage, Jackson Katz  has taken his message – that the epidemic of violence against women is a men’s issue – into athletic terms, the military and frat houses across the country. His book explains carefully and convincingly why – and how – men can become part of the solution, and work with women to build a world in which everyone is safer.” Michael Kimmel.
Sex dolls
Sex Dolls, Robots, and Woman Hating by Caitlin Roper
Tumblr media
“Sex Dolls, Robots and Woman Hating exposes the inherent misogyny in the trade in sex dolls and robots modelled on the bodies of women and girls for men’s unlimited sexual use. From doll owners enacting violence and torture on their dolls, men choosing their dolls over their wives, dolls made in the likeness of specific women and the production of child sex abuse dolls, sex dolls and robots pose a serious threat to the status of women and girls.”
The Macho Paradox: Why some men hurt women and how all men can help by Jackson Katz

unpopular opinion: all bg3 origin ships are great (and as platonic too)
gale x astarion: "enemies" to lovers they have great chemistry and has plenty of room for fluff and angst, plenty has been said about them i dont think i have much else to say.
wyll x gale: theirs plenty of danger in being the blade of fronteirs/avernus and we all know what gale is into. also they are two of the more good leaning characters. + gale is very "being a warlock sounds rough" and wyll is "that man is wayyy to faithful i dont want him to blow himself up". dancer x man with poor knees. (i could yap for ever i love them)
karlach x wyll: PERFECT, their stories intertwine while they have this unyielding care for each other. both platonically and romantically this ship is amazing! i just have no words for how good it is
karlach x shadowheart: karlach calling her shads is adorable and shadowheart is just straight up smitting for karlach the moment they meet. also when you play as origin shadowheart karlach is super sweet about the hairchange i love them.
gale x laezel: good leaning frail human wizard x GITHYANKI WARRIOR. theyre conversations are amazing with a mutual sense of curiosity for each others past and possible future. laezel falling for somone as soft as gale as well. ugh its soo good.
laezel x shadowheart: NOW THIS! its the true enemies to lovers of bg3. kinda "toxic yuri" in the begining but as the story goes on and laezel rebels against vlakith and shart against shar theres a real parrelel to there stories and a sort of understanding that they can find in each other.
gale x shadowheart: an intresting dynamic given them both being incredibly faithful to two gods who arent super fond of each other... as shadowheart strays from shar she encorages gale to relise the power mystra had over him, just a lot of support and love for each other is what im imagining. (definitly a ship thats develoupment focused)
karlach x laezel: now i havent had both of them in my team much, but the dynamic feels close to "grumpy x sunshine" laezel really opening up and being nice over time while karlach is open and happy from the begining.
karlach x gale: wizard x barbarion, (also "idoit" x genuis) is just great, gale and his magic could probably help to cool karlach down temporarly! i hc them both as autistc and i like nd x nd ships. also if you let gale ascend to godhood (loser) and play as karlach he can actually fix her engine heart which adds a sweet motivation to his godhood.
karlach x astarion: now i love these two platonically but i also love them romantically. astarion is enthusastic about recruiting karlach and comments about supporting her. he jokes abouthow strong she is which is cute. if youve ever played karlach origin and romance astarion they have a sweet scene together.
wyll x astarion: monster hunter x monster, wyll loves to tease astarion but he cares about him. he has faith in astarion to be a better person and its just MWAH. astarion is a bit of a simp for wyll (me too) he is very nice about the horns in wylls origin too (i love them)
wyll x shadowheart: they tease each other in a super endearing way. they kinda immideitly clicked and i know that wyll would support shadowheart through her whole crisis and shadowheart will help wyll in his self sacrafising tenancies (these little shits reciting porn together at the docks)
shadowheart x astarion: these two could be evil together, but they also could help each other heal and become better people
laezel x astarion: theyre very differnt views of love and affection. i think laezel would help astarion in his journy of reclaiming his own sexuality. (i need to think about these two more)
durge x anyone is great
i speedran typing this sorry for plethera of spelling erros

Benedict Cumberbatch for Prada 2023
In Conversation With a Flower - Beauty, care, love. Prada’s exploration of these eternal, timeless values of humanity - universal emotions - inspires both the Fall/Winter 2023 collections and campaigns. They are brought to life through the metaphor of flowers - both totems and gestures of tenderness and affection - here reimagined to human size, a scale that suggests otherworldly emotions. Those flowers interact with five actors, all global stars - Benedict Cumberbatch, Hunter Schafer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Letitia Wright and Li Xian - a roster of cinematic idols reflecting Prada’s long-standing relationship with cinema as an expression of cultural ideas and ideals.

Justus Lipsius, On Constancy 1.2
That traveling into foreign countries is not available against the inward maladies of the mind: that it is a testimony of them but not a remedy against them, except only in slight and first motions of the affection.
Langius beckoning somewhat with his head, "I hear you, Lipsius, but I had rather you would hearken to the voice of wisdom and reason. For these mists and clouds that thus compass you, do proceed from the smoke of opinions. Wherefore, I say with Diogenes, you have more need of reason than of a rope. That bright beam of reason, I mean, which may illuminate the obscurity of your brain.
"Behold, you forsake your country: tell me in good sooth, in forsaking it, can you forsake yourself also? See that the contrary not fall out: and that whithersoever you go, you carry not in your breast the fountain and food of your own grief.
"As they that be holden with a fever, do toss and turn themselves unquietly, and often change their beds through a vain hope of remedy: in like case are we, who being sick in our minds do without any fruit wander from one country to another. This is indeed to bewray our grief, but not to allay it. To discover this inward flame, but not to quench it: very fitly said that wise Roman, Seneca:
It is proper to a sick person not to suffer anything long, but to use mutations instead of medicines: Hereof proceed wandering peregrinations, and walkings on sundry shores: and our inconstancy, always loathing things present, one while will be upon the sea, and incontinent desires the land.
"Therefore you fly from troubles always, but never escape them, not unlike the hind that Virgil speaks of:
Whom ranging through the chase, some hunter shooting far by chance  All unaware has smit, and in her side has left his lance, She fast to wilderness and woods does draw, and there complains,
"But all in vain: because as the poet adds,
That underneath her ribs the deadly dart remains.
"So that you are wounded with this dart of affections, do not shake it out, but in traveling carry it with you to another place. He that has broken his thigh or his arm, is not inclined, I think, to go on horseback or into his chariot, but to a surgeon. And what madness is this in you, to seek remedy of this inward wound by motion and trudging from place to place?
"It is the mind that is wounded, and all this external imbecility, despair, and languishing, spring from this fountain, that the mind is thus prostrated and cast down. The principal and sovereign part has let the scepter fall and is become so vile and abject that it willingly serves its own servants.
"Tell me, what can any place or peregrination work in this case? Except perhaps there be some region in the world which can bring order of out fear, bridle hope, and draw out these evil dregs of vice, which we have sucked from our infancy. But none such is there, no not in the fortunate Islands: or if there be, show it unto us, and we will all hasten thither in troupes.
"But you will say that mutation and change itself has that force in it: And that the daily beholding of strange fashions, men, and places do refresh and lighten the mind loaded with oppressions.
"No, Lipsius, you are deceived. For, to tell you the truth plainly, I do not so much derogate from peregrination and traveling as though it bare no sway over men and their affections: Yes verily it avails, but yet thus far to the expelling of some small tediousness and weariness of our minds, not to the curing of maladies rooted so deeply, as that these external medicines cannot pluck them out.
"Music, wine, and sleep have oftentimes quenched the first enkindled sparks of anger, sorrow, and love: but never weeded out any settled or deep rooted grief. Likewise I say, that traveling might perhaps cure superficial scars, but not substantial sores. For these first motions having their original from the body do stick in the body or at the most do but cleave to the outer limit of the mind, as a man may say.
"And therefore no marvel is it, through though with a sponge they be lightly washed away: otherwise it is of old festered affections, which hold their seat, yea, and scepter in the castle of the mind.
"When you have gone far, and wandered every sea and shore, you shall neither drown them in the deep sea, nor bury them in the bowels of the earth. They will follow you at an inch: and, as the poet says, foul care will sit close in the skirts of footman and horseman.
"One demanded of Socrates how it came to pass that his traveling did him no good. 'Because,' said he, 'you forsook not your self.' So say I, that wherever you flee, you carry with you a corrupt mind, no good companion. And would to God it were but as your companion, I fear lest he be your captain, in that your affections follow not you, but you them."

Jeez I'm screwed...
I once read that awesome lemon/smit thing with castiel x reader where she was a hunter with way to many battle scars that she hid under her clothes. She got hurt on a demon hunt and Cas heals her. Afterwards he comes to her after her shower and it ends in the bed where he kisses each and every scar of her...
I have no idea anymore where I read it or who wrote it, just the summary above and that it was quite long and awesome.
I could smite myself for not saving it - or for having it saved on a device I no longer own 😑

What Classic Era film spawned four sequels, a remake, a four-movie reimagining, a live action TV series, an animated TV series, comic books up the wazoo, merchandise and memorabilia up another wazoo, and included iconic scenes — in the true sense of the word “iconic” — that are ingrained in the culture over 50 years later? Of course, you’ve guessed that the topic of our discussion is Planet of the Apes (1968)!
The Classic Era Grue-Crew goes l-o-n-g on this one while discussing John Chambers’ groundbreaking special effects makeup, Jerry Goldsmith’s innovative score, the genesis of the film, the excellent cast and crew, and those iconic lines and scenes. What a blast!
At the time of this writing, Planet of the Apes (1968) is available to stream from IndieFlix and various PPV options.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror: The Classic Era records a new episode every two weeks. Next in their very flexible schedule – this one chosen by Jeff – is Kiss Me Deadly (1955)! Based on Mickey Spillane’s novel, this film noir, science fiction thriller is directed by Robert Aldrich and features Ralph Meeker and a fantastic supporting cast! We (at least Jeff) can’t wait!
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans: leave them a message or leave a comment on the Gruesome Magazine YouTube channel, the site, or email the Decades of Horror: The Classic Era podcast hosts at [email protected]

To elaborate more specifically:
With regards to tricorns, they are in fashion at the time - with continental Europeans. Given half the Devil's Eye cast are civilians, this is essentially an acceptable break from reality, as they are not career sailors who dress accordingly. That said, due to the lack of standardized naval uniforms during the time period, characters who ARE in a formal navy (IE, The Cavalier's crew), are designed semi-anachronistically on purpose to better visually separate them from the civilian characters and convey that they are in fact navymen. On the other hand, the majority of professional sailors in the cast otherwise aren't even European, continental or colonial. Amir is Arabian, Singlung is Chinese, Dr. Tripoli is Tuareg, the Smit Brothers are Dutch-African, and the Taratai is crewed by Southeast Asians, and of course, Ruixiong, Rashid, and Abena are Chinese, Arabian, and African respectively. Of the European characters outside the Cavalier, Ravyn and Frascona do wear tricorn hats as well. Isaac also wears a tricorn hat, but he is an English civilian and not a sailor. Sebastiaan wears a slouch hat, which is somewhat more appropriate (though he wears his in a somewhat anachronistic style for aesthetic reasons). This leaves Johnny, Aaron, Jacob, Phoebus, Guy, and Giovanni, none of whom wear a hat as part of their regular designs and only the three Sins are professional sailors at the start of the story.
With regard to pirate boots, only Frascona gets to wear them, because they increase his Spooky Factor. Robert's older designs have had some fantastical boot designs in the past, but they're no longer applicable at the moment.
With regards to melee combat, like Immy says, that mostly falls on the Sins. The one Sin who is more likely to rely on firearms is Abena, and if she's shooting a gun at you then she's already fallen back to a last resort. Among the other crews, a few characters prefer melee weapons over fire arms, but they're exceptions to the rule. Specifically Linyi prefers a sword to a gun (and prefers a bow and arrow to either), and Aaron prefers melee weapons of any kind to a gun (though he's not going to refuse a gun when needed).
With regards to treasure hunting, honestly calling Devil's Eye a "pirate" story is a misnomer used for ease of conveyance. It's a Historical Fantasy Adventure Story and piracy plays more into the setting and backstories of characters rather than actively. The Sins convey themselves as pirates early on in the story but eventually drop the facade once the story progresses. The Baraccuda are former privateers but don't do any real piracy in the story proper (though they are prone to stealing, hoodwinking, and heisting as needed to keep ahead. But they're just as likely to do oddjobs as well). The Diantha are smugglers, which can be considered a sort of piracy, but their smuggling stops once they join the Quest, as smuggling doesn't really have a place for it. The Cavalier are pirate hunters in pursuit of La Demonia, so they're just straight up military navy. At certain parts of the story other pirate encounters do serve as antagonistic forces (such as when passing by Madagascar and through India), and they express the real deal: armed robbers who are more interested in taking what you have instead of going on treasure hunts.
//With all that said, there ARE some pirate misconceptions/myths/imagery we keep for the sake of artistic license, the Coconut Effect, and because we write/draw what we love, and we love a certain thing.
1.) The wearing of tricorns. In reality, tricorns were more of a sailor formality further towards the later part of the 18th century, whereas of the time of the Main Story, just any wide-brimmed hat will do. But that is why we choose to keep the tricorn--it's not an impossible thing to wear, just implausible. Also, tricorns are fucking cool and I love them, I don't care if they obscure vision some (as I have one IRL for art modeling).
2.) The wearing of "pirate" boots. The boots were mostly an artistic thing from a much later period long after the Golden Age. Otherwise, said boots are actually riding boots, intended for horse-riding, not sailing. Otherwise, the pragmatic footwear for sea legs are shoes or even barefoot. As a boot aficionado, I can confirm that having to bend your feet against stiff leather on a regular basis every hour on the hour is ANNOYING. But in DE, we keep the boots because they're fucking cool and I love boots. Also, they're not ALWAYS worn.
3.) Using melee weapons (swords, etc) more than guns. Well, simply put, gun needs ammo, and the Seven are gifted with magical powers. The Hero Crews use guns more, but since this blog is on the Seven Deadly Sins of the Sea, they perpetuate the "pirates use swords" stereotype more. I mean, why use a gun when you can hurl an entire cannon at a band of thugs with your levitation/super strength?
4.) A bigger emphasis on treasure hunting than raiding. Well, Devil's Eye wouldn't be much of a story without the treasure hunting element, would it? With that said, soul raids (or any raid in general) do happen, but they're not the story focus. Also, as long as the Master is clipped, he cannot enforce his will or power as often as he'd like, and the Seven loathe having to kill to empower him, so they avoid soul raiding as much as possible on their own unless they are ordered to do so. Otherwise, in order to be at full power, the Master must get back his missing Eye, and thus, treasure-hunting is the bigger focus of the story.
There's more, but that's all on the top of my head, and Sabrina is starved for more pets despite me cuddling her for almost an hour before naptime.
