Was initially gonna try digitizing + coloring it in the Butcher Vanity colors but I couldn’t get it to look right, so pencil with a bit of red pen it stays

HungryHero meets Creator Tails.

So, I've recently become a fan of @vanyzvat 's Creator Tails AU/character, and he's absolutely brilliant!

I really like Creator Tails' work in progress backstory, and I think his character is super cool! He feels like a proper evil Tails done right and given how he can travel through different universes and interacts with different Sonics. I really wanted to see what would happen if he stumbled across @sonicexelle-junkary 's Hungry Hero Sonic.

I think Sonic would be quite shocked to see his best friend in the flesh after so long, as he probably wouldn't realise that this wasn't the Tails he knew so well.

I think another thing you'd have to ask is who'd betray who? Would Sonic's cannibalistic urges prove too much, or would Creator Tails do what he always does and string them along like they were his puppets?

Being completely honest, I think the only actual bit of criticism I’ve gotten with HungryHero is how I wrote Shadow for it. Like how he just left Sonic— a cannibal who now has a burning hatred because his one source of balance is dead—alone.

You can argue that he got a bit overwhelmed that he had murdered someone (though uh forget one ending in Shadow05). But yeah, he had been written a little bit too out of character for my liking and I hope to fix that when he comes back.

EDIT: to be clear, when I mean “actual criticism” I mean people pointing out actual flaws in my writing and not just hating on it because it’s “not accurate to cannon” or just actual transphobia.

I grew up on the nineties sonic cartoons, and let me tell you I've seen sonic eat chili dogs a hundred times that is engraved in my psyche.

It was explained to naive childbrain me that's sonic to eat a bunch of food in order to be really fast (much like a car, he needs a lot of gas) and I don't know if that was fandom but that was my understanding and what I believed for years. That he was a bit of glutton, he needed to be and chili dogs was his favorite!

Sonic eating food really hasn't been that much relevant in the recent years I've come now to recognize. But yeah, that's what been characterizing my reading of Hungry Hero of this so far. I thought that character quirk was going to be integrated in sonic later down-the-line and and something of the nature was building up to it.

Wanted to inform you of my conclusions. As you stated that people are mischaracterizing him a bit, and it might be due to this? This might be a unique problem that I have because sonic's relationship to food is so ingrained, thanks to those cartoons.

Oh, I know that Sonic loves food. There have been multiple states of him eating and enjoying it. But again, just because you do eat food a lot for whatever reason doesn’t necessary make you a glutton as (to put it in VERY basic words) gluttony is being very greedy towards food, including eating it. I’d say think of the guests in Little Nightmares if you want a (albeit exaggerated) visual.

Sonic does love eating, yes. But he doesn’t hoard it, or eat in access. He just eats more often because his body needs the energy to keep on moving— because he runs a lot. Also despite it being common that he has questionable tastes in food, he knows when something isn’t edible or to his taste. He wouldn’t go out eating anything he could get his hands on (mostly).

As for HH!Sonic, he only has an impulse control and addiction issue. He hates what he’s doing but constantly relapses into his indulges because he can’t and doesn’t know how to control himself. Yes, impulse and addiction take place in gluttony, but they aren’t always directly related.

I gotta ask as I’ve just recently read some of HungryHero and I gotta say the writing is fantastic. As a writer myself I want to ask what gave you the idea to write the story to begin with? If someone hasn’t asked already of course

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I really do enjoy writing for that au (as difficult as it might me).

The main thing for HH— and any au I have— is derived from personal trauma or stressful parts in my life, along with just general curiosity or interest. I use my stories more as a form of a coping mechanism. Also, I just use it to have fun with any idea that comes across my head.

The idea for HungryHero initially came after an extreme change in my life, which made me very upset and angry and I needed an outlet. This was at the time where Sonic.exe became popular again, so I also wanted to make a fairly edgy AU (inadvertently originally making him an exe).

The idea that initially kickstarted the whole “cannibalistic Sonic” idea came from a small web comic We Need to Talk About Tails. Eventually morphing into the original version of HungryHero.

After the first act was completed, I took a small break, eventually coming back to it and realizing exactly how dark, edgy, and out of character it was, so I completely rewrote it to be more in line with how the characters would act in each situation. While my AU’s are often mostly not cannon, I still like to keep them at least somewhat consistent to their cannon counterparts, it makes things a lot more interesting.

Sonic does still get mischaracterized in HungryHero as some crazy murder cannibal (fair, he was like that for a while). But more recently he’s been written with the thought “what would happen if Sonic began craving flesh?” Knowing how Sonic usually acts, and adding a little bit more emotion in order to sympathize with him better

I still get shit on for HH because it’s my most popular AU. A lot of people don’t understand that it’s not SUPPOSED to be cannon, so they shit on certain plot points and facts (that are often outdated). If they just hate him because I made him trans. As if that’s even the main focus of the damn story.

Even with the struggles, I still love this AU to death, and I hope I can continue it for everyone who’s been waiting.
