Does Ozai know that Sokka is more than just a southern watertribe “peasant”? Is he aware that Sokka is the Chiefs son? I mean it’s basically royalty ish? He’s kind of a prince lol but ofc I’m aware that the fire nation doesn’t hold other nations royalty to the same degree. I’m just wondering if he knew, or does - does it change his views the gladiator in the slightest? I also adore that Sokka doesn’t use that title to flaunt unlike his counterpart Hahn. #humblesoul

Hmm... as far as I remember, since Azula didn't take it very seriously back when she learned about it, she never felt the need to tell Ozai about it. Later on, her bringing up Sokka's potential high birth in his culture miiiight have set off some alarms in Ozai's head about why she'd make a point of bringing it up. Granted, he's not exactly the brightest tool in the shed, but Azula would definitely worry about Ozai's braincells jumpstarting at the worst possible timing, and she'd keep it to herself because of that.

As for if that would change his opinion on Sokka... ironically, I don't think so, but also that's not a bad thing at this point? x'D the less Ozai thinks of Sokka, the more shocked he is when Sokka pulls off miracles and extraordinary comebacks that no one else is likely to do. The humility of his origins (for even if we deem him the prince of the Southern Water Tribe, the truth is it's a waaay humbler life than what Ozai is used to) is even a factor that lends to Sokka's intimidation factor: as far as Ozai is concerned, he should be a meaningless nobody and yet this nobody is capable of turning the war on its head and, perhaps most importantly, building a relationship so powerful with Azula that it broke Ozai's hold on her and changed her soooo deeply... and in the process, the two of them have basically become Ozai's worst threats.

So... I feel like Ozai is worse off unaware that Sokka has any manner of noteworthy ancestry and as tormenting Ozai is hella fun, I'd rather he continues to think Sokka is extra scary for being extraordinary out of his own merits rather than because he happened to be born to a noteworthy family. There's just something so delightfully and wickedly poetic about making a Fire Lord fear the Avatar over all his bending potential... when the biggest threat against him is actually a nonbender :')

And yeah, Sokka honestly has way more grounds to call himself a prince than Hahn does, especially considering what Hahn did to his own family... can't really claim royal privileges if you ditch your royal wife and betray your people just to find more profit somewhere else...
