This is one of those hella complicated, hella melodramatic rollercoaster of a ride historical cdrama’s. It’s so much fun, yet exhausting at times too. It does take a handful of episodes to fully get into, but once you do, if you’re into this type of genre, since this won’t be everyones cup of tea, you’ll be fully hooked. The female lead has the best storyline and character growth throughout even though she’d could be a bit obtuse at times but no more worse then her counterpart. The main male lead I wanted to throttle him and don’t get me started on the ‘brother’. All the torture he put his ‘sister’ through. Ugh. In the end though, with all the tragedies, it made a excellent melodramatic drama.

Explaining one of VTMB paintings (pt 13)

This painting show up as one of the works of art found in The Red Dragon Chinese restaurant in Chinatown run by the honorable and successful local businessman Wong Ho in VTMB.  
It is actually a single panel of a much larger colored lithography on traditional Chinese art from a French book called L'Ornement Polychrome (in English: Color Ornament) which is a major pictorial works on the history of design published in 1880 - 1889 by Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet.

It also seems like a nice mod as it doesn’t change the paintings to be different from the ones used in the base game but rather updates them to have better resolution. [6]
The middle piece of this trio comes from another page on Chinese art from L'Ornement polychrome (shown below) with this page possibly showing print recreations of embroidery patterns rather then paintings, but i’m not sure.

Chinese Bird Panels (embroidery patterns?) colored lithography found in L'Ornement polychrome by Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet (book author) (1880 - 1889). I assume that the Chinese and stamps are the works titles and the artist signatures respectively for the panels in the print rather then being reproductions made by  Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet himself like on the other page. 
Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet (1825–1893) is best known today for publishing two major pictorial works on the history of design: Le costume historique (English: Historical costume ) and the formerly mentioned book L'Ornement Polychrome which was published in ten installments between 1869 and 1873, that acts as a visual record in 100 plates of the decorative arts from antiquity to the eighteenth century. The work was such a huge success that in 1885–7. Racinet brought out a second series, this time of 120 plates, and updated to include designs of the nineteenth century as well. The imagery presented in both series is drawn from a wide array of various mediums, including woodwork, metalwork, architecture, textiles, painting, and pottery, and from cultures all over the world. [1,2]
Being the son of a printer lithographer and later a student at l’École de dessin de la Ville de Paris, triggered Racinet aspiration to inspire and teach others. His ability to reproduce classical and ancient art – studying and learning from them at art school and the knowledge of reproduction and print that his father thought him sparked his interest in art education – producing scholar books. As an artist he did produce some individual works and his paintings were even exhibited at the Salons in Paris for 1849 to 1874, but in fact these were always reproductions of ancient manuscripts from la Bibliothèque Nationale, showing classical and archeological subjects. [3]
His career as an artist, art historian but mainly as director of publications echoes the development of decorative art in the second half of the 19th century. The spirit of discovery, progress and invention permeated all aspects of life during the 19th century. With the construction of the Suez Canal in the 1860’s, travel was facilitated between Europe and Asia, opening up hitherto inaccessible worlds to the western world. That same decade saw major archeological excavations taking place in Egypt and in Italy at Herculaneum and Pompei, revealing long forgotten artefacts to the European public. These activities triggered a renewed interest in the classicism. But note that, the revival of ancient styles was not a matter of copying and imitating, it was rather more a start of a new chapter in decorative art – to be inspired and to borrow ornaments of past civilisations to combine with new found industrial techniques to create a new type of decorative design. As part of select group of teachers, publicists and artists, Auguste ‘diffuse the most significant motifs of the decorative arts of the time. [3]
So I will fully admit that most of my knowledge of art history centers around European, North America and a bit of African art history. Traditional Chinese art history is something I’m less familiar with and as I have zero ability to read ether French or Chinese and can’t find an English translation of L'Ornement Polychrome online I’m mostly just guessing on this print being Racinet’s example of the traditional Chinese painting genre known as Huaniaohua (Traditional Chinese: 花鳥畫 // English: Bird-and-Flower paintings). I will be basing a majority of my description about the Bird-and-flower painting genre from the description I found in the chapter on Bird-and-flower paintings from the book Essential Terms of Chinese Painting by Dr. Maria Cheng and Dr. Wai Hung Tang[4]. If anyone has more knowledge on this subject free to comment below.
Bird-and-flower paintings are one of the three traditional Chinese painting genres, the other two being landscape and figures, that predate the Han dynasty (200 BCE) and continued to evolve long after. While it is called “Bird-and-flower paintings” the genre also extends to any aquatic, terrestrial or arial creature other then humans. There are five subgenre that works in this genre are broken up into: feather, flower, insect, aquatic and beast paintings. The separation of Birds and Flowers as a genre distinct from figure and land scapes was the result of a rivalry between two famous artist/art-masters that lived on opposite sides of the country and each forming their own schools of Bird-and-flower paintings.
 The first being Huang Quan (Traditional Chines: 黃筌) (903–965) who lived in the western interior and was known for a meticulous style of depiction as show below in his work Xie Sheng Zhen Qiu Tu, (10th century).

Bird-and-Flower paintings done in the meticulous style as implied by the name use very fine brush strokes and seek to represent life like colors and require close observation. Outlines will be done in stark ink and vibrant washes will then be added at later stages.
The second was Xu Xi (Chinese: 徐熙) (886-975) who lived in the east cost and favored more expressive style of Birds and flowers as seen in his work shown below Butterfly and Chinese Wisteria Flowers (active mid-10th century)

Bird-and-Flower paintings done in the expressive style places a much greater emphasis on expressing spirit of the subject being captured over a ridgiousoly conforming to lifelike depictions. And while Xu Xi art may not seem any less of a lifelike depictions then Huang Quan at first glance, it is important to keep in mind that he was one of the first to use this expressive style. This was also not the only style that focused on the idea of capturing the feeling rather then depicting reality in not only Chinese but other Asian art styles, and later these themes would influence 19th century westerns artists such as the Impressionists who found inspiration in a wide verity of Asian painting and printing styles. Western artist in the 19th century suddenly became exposed to centuries of artistic traditions, styles and histories from Asia, the Middle East and Africa through the publication of books such as L'Ornement Polychrome which for the first time allowed them to draw from new sources of artistic inspiration outside of the centuries of European art styles and traditions.  
Finally, while these two masters from long past where the major influences at the beginning of the Bird-and-Flower paintings genre it is by no means considered an outdated or dead art style with modern artists such as Fan Yang’s work The Bee, Butterfly and Grasshopper,  ink and color on paper, (2010) shown below being exhibited as a part of the Tasteful Leisure among Flowers – Contemporary Chinese Bird-and-Flower Painting Exhibition jointly hosted by Beijing Fine Art Academy, Guangdong Artists Association, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Contemporary Lingnan Art Research Center and Guangdong Provincial Society of Chinese Painting in 2018.

Oh, brother...aka keeping it in the (royal) family
I recently realized that for some reason “multiple brothers one girl” seems to be a popular category in costume dramas. I am not sure why such sharing is necessary in a polygamous society for fancy royals each of whom can get himself a whole harem, but I am not complaining that it appears any remake of the Hollywood classic “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” would clearly be changed into “One Bride for Seven Brothers, and Some of the Brothers Spit Blood and Die” if it were a cdrama. Here are some of the dramas at issue. 
Liu Shi Shi appears to be the queen of this subgenre to such an extent that I am vaguely wondering if it’s in her contract. We are gonna start with THREE of her dramas:
Bu Bu Jing Xin - Liu Shi Shi has not one, not two, but THREE hot royal brothers, played by Nicky Wu, Kevin Cheng and Lin Gengxin, pine for her time-traveling self. Since this is an exquisite (no, seriously, it’s amazing) period piece about loss and longing, she ends up with none of them, instead of a hot vagely-’cesty gangbang as one might expect from that set-up.

Lost Love in Times - poor Liu Shi Shi, she’s a sexy witch having to pick between William Chan and his shady brother Joe Xu. To make it even trippier, the two actors look like each other, to really hammer the whole “siblings want her” theme.

The Imperial Doctress - why bust what’s not broken? It’s the true and tried Liu Shi Shi and hot royal brothers formula. She’s a doctor who spends most of her time practicing medicine, escaping barbarians and creating feminism, not noticing that as she pines for one royal brother played by Huang Xuan, another royal brother, played by infinitely hotter Wallace Huo, is pining for her.

Gong/Jade Palace Lock Heart - if Liu Shi Shi is the queen of that set up, Feng Shao Feng is the king, what with this and Military Seal, both of which star Yang Mi. Clearly, there are worse ways to make a career than stealing Yang Mi from a royal brother. Here, Yang Mi is a spunky time traveler in the middle of Kang Xi’s sons’ fight for the throne. She first falls for Four but ends up with Eight. In between, she offers to bang Four to save Eight as one does. Gives a whole new meaning to sharing is caring and “have you brought enough for the entire class?”

Legend of the Military Seal - Yang Mi and FSF strike again. FSF is madly in love with his brother’s wife, and since she’s not afflicted by blindness, she shares his feelings. Surprisingly, but delightfully, happy ending ensues.

Who Rules the World - more like which brother rules awesome Zhao Lusi’s heart. Going by the rule of “hottest brother wins,” Yang Yang gets the girl in a drama that is pretty yum yum.

Colourful Bone - one hot seriously whumped out royal brother and one whiny immature one, oh who should the heroine pick? This drama stands for the proposition that you should protect and save abused people, especially if they are hot men, since they will always turn out to be an emperor in disguise. This drama btw is one giant kinkfest for yours truly.

The Eternal Love - you could make THREE whole seasons out of timetravel and brothers into the same girl, who knew.

Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty - if you’ve seen Gong or BBJX, you know the drill. Horde of queued brothers queueing for the heroine.

Princess Jieyou - Yuan Hong narrowly escaped the curse of fancying his brother’s woman in BBJX, being about the only sibling not in love with LSS in that one. But clearly, you can’t fight fate and shortly thereafter he’s got to be a sister-in-law luster in a drama of his very own. He is a barbarian general who falls in love with a woman only to discover she’s to marry his brother. Angst and deliciousness and eventual happy ending (the husband fulfilled the uglier brother’s duty by eventually kicking the bucket.)

The Promise of Chang’an - if you want to watch brothers with the same woman but no happy ending, and have already watched BBJX, I present this recent drama where Cheng Yi gets to, as always, suffer beautifully watching the woman he loves marry his annoying brother. Pretty much everyone dies at the end of this one, going off to a great big threesome in the sky.

Twisted Fate of Love - will Sun Yi pick the delicate Tan Jianci or the sexy as fuck bastard that is Jin Han? Being a smart woman, she picks the latter and my hormones rejoice.

Go Princess Go - this is a drama that parodied every cliche there is, so why not brothers into one woman? Who is actually a man in a woman’s body making it even more delightful!

Ashes of Love - even being divine, with women from three separate realms available will seemingly not prevent love interests being a scarce resource leading to sibling love rivalry. Deng Lun and Luo Yunxi duke it out ostensibly for Yang Zi but in reality for who can suffer more prettily. Deng Lun might get the girl, but LYX wins the suffering crown, so it all more or less evens out.

Princess Silver - are siblings in love with the same woman not spicy enough for you? How about TWINS in love with the same woman? One awesome (Aarif Rahman) and one psychotic (Jing Chao) want our heroine and both marry her at one point. Only the awesome one gets to bang her though. (But the psychotic one gets to stick meathooks through his brother in compensation for not being able to stick...ummm...meathook through the heroine, so it’s all OK.)

Secret of the Three Kingdoms - and now we are gonna go REAL PERV! If twins are not enough for you, seekers of strong sensations, how about IDENTICAL twins? Ma Tianyu replaces his dead identical twin brother as the last Han emperor and gets to woo Wan Qian (whose plan it was in the first place.) At least she doesn’t need to get used to a new face?

Summary:

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.
A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.

The Liu clan of Nanyang (HHS)
[HHS001]
The Epochal Founder [shizu], the Glorious and Martial [guangwu] August Emperor, taboo Xiu, courtesy name Wenshu, was a native of Caiyang in Nanyang. He descended from Gaozu in nine generations, springing from Emperor Jing, who begot King Ding of Changsha, Fa. Fa begot Marquis Jie of Chonglnig, Mai. Mai begot the Grand Warden of Yulin, Wai. Wai begot the Chief Commandant of Julu, Hui. Hui begot the Prefect of Nandun, Qin. Qin begot Guangwu.
Guang was orphaned at the age of nine sui, and was raised by his junior uncle Liang. He was seven chi, three cun tall, had pleasing whiskers and eyebrows, a big mouth, arched nose, and “sun horn”.
Zheng Xuan's Commentary to the Hallowed Documents' Central Expectations says: With “sun horn” is meant that the bone is raised in middle of the courtyard, and shaped like the sun.
He was by nature attentive to sowing and harvesting while his older brother Bosheng was fond of chivalry and supporting gentlemen, and who often sneered at Guangwu for his devotion to farming business, comparing him to Gaozu's older brother's Zhong. In the middle of Wang Mang's Tianfeng era [14 – 19 AD], he then went to Chang'an and received the Hallowed Documents and had a general understanding of the great right-mindedness.
The Eastern Watchtower Records says: He received the Hallowed Documents from the Middle Grandee Xu Ziwei of Lujiang. When his wealth was used up, he combined his money with his fellow student Master Han to buy a donkey, and made an attendant rent it out to provide for their public expenses.

The Glorious and Ardent [guanglie] August Empress Yin, taboo Lihua, was a native Xinye in Nanyang. At first when Guangwu had gone to Xinye, he heard of the Empress's beauty, and in his heart was pleased with her. Later when he arrived in Chang'an, he saw that the chariots and cavalry of the Bearer of the Golden Baton were very abundant. Following that, he sighed and said:
Serving in officialdom, [I] must make Bearer of the Golden Baton, taking a wife [I] must get Yin Lihua.

The Martial [wu] King of Qi, Yan, courtesy name Bosheng, was Guangwu's oldest brother. He was by nature tough and resolute, had a righteous fortitude and great steadfastness. From Wang Mang usurped Han he was always fuming with fury, and he held close contemplations of restoring the altars of soil and grain. He did not engage in the businesses of the people of his family, but poured out his person and expended his property, and made connections with the valiant paragons Under Heaven.
Earlier, the Lord of Nandun took as wife the daughter of Fan Zhong from the same commandery, her courtesy name was Xiandu. Xiandu was by nature gentle and compliant since she was a little girl. If improper in appearance or dress, she did not leave her room. The clan respected her. She bore three sons and three daughters: The oldest boy was Bosheng, next Zhong, next Guangwu. The oldest daughter was Huang, next Yuan, next Boji.
The Filial [xiao] King of Zhao, Liang, courtesy name Cibo, was Guangwu's junior uncle. In the time of Emperor Ping, he was recommended as Filial and Upright, and became Prefect of Xiao. When Guangwu and his brothers were orphaned young, Liang consoled them with considerable sincerity.
The King of Sishui, Xi, courtesy name Jingsun, was Guangwu's senior kinsman, of his father's generation. Xi's son was Zhong, he and Guangwu as young were close to and fond of each other.
The Respectful [gong] King of Chengyang, Zhi, courtesy name Jubo, was the son Guangwu's senior kinsman, the Hale [kang] Marquis of Chongling, Chang.
The Eastern Watchtower Records: In the beginning he was named Zhong. Later he changed it to Zhi.
Chang's great grandfather was the Steadfast [jie]Marquis, Mai. As the son of King Ding of Changsha he was ennobled at Chongling district in Liandao, and became Marquis of Chongling. When Mai passed, his son the Esteemed [dai] Marquis, Xiongqu, inherited. When Xiongqu passed, his son the Accomplished [kao] Marquis, Ren, inherited.
Ren, since conditions of the lands of Chongling were low-lying and damp, and the mountains and forest had venomous aura, sent up a letter seeking to reduce his estate and move inwards.
The Eastern Watchtower Records says: The Accomplished Marquis, Ren, at the time had 476 households. He sent up a letter desiring to reduce the number of households and move to Nanyang, while keeping his son Chang behind to ward the family tombs. Emperor Yuan allowed it.
Ren passed, his son Chang inherited.
Chang was unassuming, moderate, and fond of right-mindedness. He fully pushed forward the gold, treasure, wealth, and property from his father's time as gifts to his brothers. The Inspector of Jing province sent up his righteous actions, and he was designated Chief Commandant of Lujiang.
The Continued Book of Han said: The Marquis and others assisted the sacrifices in the Bright Hall [mingtang], and in accordance with precedent, he had added 200 households. Chang for having acted righteously, was designated Chief Commandant of Lujiang.
After about a year, it happened that his senior kinsman, the Marquis of Anzhong, Liu Chong, rose up with troops. [Liu Chong was another descendant of King Ding of Changsha.] Wang Mang dreaded and detested the Liu clan. He summoned Chang to Chang'an, and dismissed him to go home to his state.
The Eastern Watchtower Records says: Chang presided over Lujiang for more than a year. A drought happened. Patrolling the counties, people would bring withered rice plants, telling themselves that the rice plants were all withered. The functionaries forcefully demanded the taxes. Chang in response said:
The Grand Warden's affair.
He conveyed the withered rice plants to where the Grand Warden was. They had been drinking several rounds when he told it to the Grand Warden. The Grand Warden said:
It is nothing.
Chang showed him the withered rice plants. The Grand Warden said:
Is it the Chief Commandant's affair?
Chang angrily scolded the Grand Warden, saying:
Rat, how dare you!
The Inspector reported it in a memorial. Mang summoned Zhi to Chang'an, and dismissed him to go to his state.
Before this, in the time of Emperor Ping, Chang and Chong had gone to court at the Imperial Capital together, and assisted the sacrifices at the Bright Hall. Chong saw that Mang was about to imperil the House of Han, and privately spoke to Chang, saying:
The Duke of Anhan monopolizes the state's authority, the crowd of subjects do nothing but turn around and follow. The overturning of the altars of soil and grain has arrived. The Empress Dowager Chunqiu is of exalted [age] and the Son of Heaen is young and weak. The reason why August Emperor Gao allotted fiefs to his sons and brothers was presumably this.
Chang in his heart considered it to be so. When Chong's affair was defeated, Chang was afraid, and he therefore wished to make connections and guide and set up a faction. He therefore made Zhi take as wife the daughter of the Marquis of Gaoling, Zhai Xuan.
The Eastern Watchtower Records says: Chang made his son by his legal wife, Zhong, take Xuan's daughter Xi as wife. Xuan sent his son by his legal wife Ji to send of his daughter to enter the gates. After about twenty days, Yi rose with troops.
It happened that Xuan's younger brother Yi rose with troops and wished to attack Mang. In Nanyang they arrested and killed Xuan's daughter. Zhi was implicated, bound up, and imprisoned. Chang following that sent up a letter apologizing for the crime, and desiring to lead his sons, brothers, and clansmen as soldiers in the vanguard. Mang had newly assumed the administration and wished to comfort and calm the imperial house. For that reason he was not mutilated or killed.
When Mang usurped the throne, those of the Liu clan who had been marquises were all demoted be called counts, with revenue as the benefice of a Solitary Dignitary. Later everyone lost their feudal ranks. When Chang passed, Zhi consequently specially was deposed, and also did not get an official position or become a functionary.
Zhi, though the son of the former Marquis, Chang, acted genuinely and full-hearted, the lineage house all respected him.
The Filial [xiao] Marquis of Chengwu, Shun, courtesy name Pingzhong, was Guangwu's senior kinsman. His father Qing, Continued Book of Han: Qing, courtesy name Weng'ao,was the Marquis of Chongling, Chang's full younger brother. Shun and Guangwu were from the same village, and at a young age had a deep friendship with each other.
The Cherished [huai] Marquis of Shunyang, Jia, courtesy name Xiaosun, was Guangwu's senior kinsman. His father Xian was the Marquis of Chongling, Chang's full younger brother. The Continued Treatise of Han says: Xian, courtesy name Wengjun. Jia was orphaned early. He was by nature humane and deep-felt. The Lord of Nandun raised and look upon him as a son. Later he and Bosheng studied in Chang'an together, and practised the Hallowed Documents and Spring and Autumn.

Liu Xuan, courtesy name Shenggong, was a senior kinsman of Guangwu. His younger brother was killed by a person, and Shenggong connected with retainers, wishing to revenge him. A retainer broke the law, and Shenggong hid from the magistrate in Pinglin [lit. “Flat Forest”]. The magistrate arrested Shenggong's father Zizhang. Shenggong pretended to die and sent people to carry the coffin to return home to Chongling. The magistrate therefore let Zizhang go, and Shenggong following that escaped and went into hiding.
The Records of Emperors and Kings says: Marquis Dai of Chongling, Xiongqu, begot the Grand Warden of Cangwu, Li. Li begot Zizhang. He took a daughter from the He clan of Pinglin and begot Gengshi.
The Continued Book of Han says: At the time Shenggong assembled retainers, his home had wine, and he requested a patrol officer drink. A retainer drunkenly sang the words “In the morning we feasted the two chief commandants. The patrol officer comes after, use him to tune the soup's taste.” The patrol officer was greatly angered, he tied him up and beat him several hundred times.

The Filial [xiao] Marquis of Ancheng, Ci, courtesy name Ziqin, was Guangwu's senior kinsman. His grandfather Li was Grand Warden of Cangwu. Ci was orphaned young. His older brother Xian avenged an enmity by killing a person. A functionary arrested Xian and killed him. Ci and Xian's son Xin sold the fields and dwellings, together throw away wealth and property, and connected with retainers to seek revenge against the functionary. Both became fugitives to escape and lay low. There happened to be an amnesty and they returned home.
The Continued Book of Han says: In the time of Wang Mang, the Lius were repressed and discarded, and were intruded on by the commanderies and counties. In Caiyang state the Chief of Scouts for Fu Precinct got drunk and scolded Gengshi's father Zizhang. Zizhang was furious, and stabbed and killed the Chief of Scouts. More than ten years later, the Chief of Scout's son killed Gengshi's younger brother Qian. Ci's younger brother Xian wished to avenge the enmity. His retainers turned to kidnapping a person, and they were discovered. Province and commandery killed Xian within the prison. Ci and Xian's son Xin connected with retainers Chen Zheng and others, nine people, and burnt and killed the Precinct Chief's wife and children, four people.

There are some localizations I did where possible, but for the most part I left things relatively literal because there was so much.

The game started off with weapons from Dynasty Warriors 5 before later adding in weapons from 7, 8 and even 9 along with Warriors Orochi 2 and Samurai Warriors 3. Summary:
During the prosperous Tang Dynasty, all nations came to pay tribute. The Tang emperor held a Cuju competition to show the prosperity of the country. Critical Annotation
My research focuses on developing my concept of Daoism and my painting practice. In the concept parts, I investigate different contemporary artists and how to cross-fertilise Daoism in their artwork. In terms of visual research, I study painters from distinct times and cultural backgrounds. I also seek meaning in artworks that use the same elements as me in their creation.
Daoism reminds people that it is narrow minded to judge the world subjectively and from the height of the universe of heaven and earth and the height of human society. (1) Cai Guo-Qiang’s childlike imagination transforms the Daoist cosmological perspective into a series of Projects for extraterrestrials. (2) Xu Bing’s Gravitational Arena transforms this cosmological perspective into a reading perspective that the audience cannot reach that transcends the space of the gallery. (3) From a cosmic view of the Earth, all of us are the travellers in the universe. There will be no misunderstanding between cultures. Letting everything free wander is my approach to pursuing the freedom of spirituality as well as my main creative methodology. 
Another important concept at the heart of the Daoist universe is that everything lacks an enduring essence. In Cai Guo-Qiang’s The Century with Mushroom Clouds, Cai’s miniature mushroom clouds symbolise this impermanence. (4) The record in Song Dong’s Water Diary disappears as the water evaporates, which visualises the artist moving along the path of life to the Dao. (5) This changeable essence of Dao has heightened my desire to capture more beautiful moments and experience the eternal world for an instant. The vivid brushstrokes and those moving motifs such as clouds, raindrops, wind, or flowers are my visual representation of aesthetic moments.
I depict various circles throughout my projects. Lindy Lee creates thousands of delicate holes in Secret World of a Starlight Ember inspired by the milky silver of the cosmos. (6) The first circle in Song Dong’s Round represents his love for his daughter. (7) I think those bubbles, which have no beginning and no end, are a symbol of the universe and are perfect to represent how I feel when I experience the present moment in fullness.
The gestures inHuang Yongping’s Thousand-Armed Bodhisattva are a reflection and examination of the diverse and complex cultural contexts of the contemporary world and a temporal and spatial coordinate for contemporary art. (8)The gesture inShen Yuan Gazelle represents the artist’s sorrow and loneliness. (9) Huang Yongping and Shen Yuan are soulmates. This work was made after Huang Yongping's sudden death. I think sometimes the partial appearance of a body part is better than the whole human body, leaving a rich space for imagination.
In terms of visual research, Guo Xi’s ‘three distances’ of the principle of cavalier perspective and Min Qiji’s illustration of The Story of the Western Chamber inspired me to use traditional Chinese painting construction in my pictorial space. (10) Wolfe Von Lenkiewicz borrows from classic oil painting construction, encouraging me to try larger painting compositions and content narratives. (11)
