And the top and bottom buns are somehow made from 50 different kinds of bread in a checker box pattern.
It comes with a picture.
Ingredients: I am not typing all of that out again. What the fuck.
Smell: You’ve taken an entire food court’s worth of food and made it into a sandwich. This isn’t even possible. Why am I considering this. 3/5
Taste: How do you eat this. 2/5
Texture: You get like 5 different foods every bite. This is not balanced. There is no harmony. This sandwich is the embodiment of disorder and chaos. 1/5
Presentation: The fact that this even looks sandwich adjacent is a fucking miracle. You don’t get full points though. Because I don’t like you. 3/5
Would Chunk Eat It?: He would eat maybe 1/50th of it. So no. 1/5
Final Score: 2/5
Critic’s Notes: Why would you waste this much food. Just host a party. Donate it. Something fucking anything I am begging at this point.

Hello you lady robin hood lefty eyebag 🤣 if we're the duo, does that mean I'm little john righty eyebag???
Did you guys make the chocolate mousse or bought from the store? And that sandwich sounds amazing, bet it was delish. When you eat sandwiches, do you have chips with it too? Do you have certain chips you pair with certain sandwiches? Like when I have turkey bacon ranch club, I have it with sour cream n onions. Meatball subs, I gotta have it with bbq chips.
Yeah, work gets boring a lot of times when there are no customers. I mean I guess I can do laundry but that's it haha I was thinking of getting one of those stand up desk next year though, or a rolling one, so I can at least move around.
Speaking of your crush, you said she is in NC right? Was she near the place where they were having power outages? I guess some bad stuff happened around that area because of it.
Oh geez, you went dark with the whole kayak thing lol but I know what you mean. When I did it, I remember being scared because I was going too far from people...and I don't know how to swim, so I would've been SOL if I tipped over.😅
I've seen white water rafting and no no no. It looks scary especially with the big rocks. I actually went fishing when I was in Georgia during the summer. I enjoyed it, but I don't know the difference between the those.. my mom just gave me a stick with the string on it and then we were on the dock just chilling waiting for a bite.
I haven't tried axe throwing yet, it's on my list for next year though. And yes! I've heard of that break room thing. I think there is one here, but not sure. It looks fun, I want to try that too and just take a bat a break everything.
I haven't really thought about that. I know for sure I want the healthcare stuff more affordable.
Have you ever done something bad that nobody knows about?
-CuriousGeorge
lol, yes u r the little john righty eyebag. I really laugh out loud when i read the nicknames.
no, i bought it at the store and it actually pretty good. i didnt finish it because it's pretty rich, so I'm gonna keep it for tomorrow. :D
Thank you! yeah the sandwich is pretty good! I like it. do you like your bacon soft or crispy? no, i dont eat my sandwich with chips. i'm not really a big chip person. oh wow you really take the sandwich - chips pairing pretty serious. hahaaha. I eat my sandwich as it is :D
Do you like tuna sandwich? do you like egg salad sandwich and fried egg sandwich?
ouh thats good idea if u get the table.. I hope you do and maybe it will help :)
yes, she is in NC but I dont know where in NC she is. I don't know that there is an outage nor if it happens near where she is because to be honest, I havent talked to her since thanksgiving which is sad :( and what's worse is, today is her birthday too. I miss her and I miss talking with her but oh well.. I hope she has a good birthday day. :D
hahaha well what if it really happens and nobody there to help u? didnt mean to ruin ur moment with kayaking :D yeah plus i dont know how to swim in the deep water.
White water rafting is scary but at least if something bad happen, it will happen fast n not like you slowly dying if your kayak tip over. hahaha. just kidding. sometimes i have a dark sense of humor, pardon me. :P
ah okay, well, I looove fishing. I have tried fresh water fishing to catch some Bass fish. My favorite is deep sea fishing to catch different kinds of tuna or yellowtail or mahi mahi. I love the intense feelings when I was trying to reel the fish in but the fish fight. It's like a strategy game so ur line wont break. I think the biggest I've caught is mahi mahi fish / dorado. it's pretty fish, try google it :D. the one i caught was 15lb and 4 ft in size. it took 20 minutes for me to reel it in. The fish bit my bait n I was in the back part of the boat, n that fish move around so i have to follow it. By the time I caught it, I was already in the front part of the boat. lol.
Tuna is a different fighter. They tend to swim or dive down deeper super fast when they fight after bit the bait. So it's heavier to reel it in.
I have also tried fly fishing, it's a different way of fishing. n I caught different kind salmon. I went to Alaska to do it. It was fun, fly fishing is more calming and relaxing because you do it in the river and just keep casting the fake fly bait again n again until the fish bite it.
Rock bottom fishing is fun but kinda tricky, because u let your bait fall down so deep and u hv to keep the bait "moving or jumping a bit" by moving the pole up n down gently n when u catch it, it's heavy n take a longer time because of the weight u put on the bait n it was all the way down.
I really wanna try ice fishing and spare fishing. But i can never do spare fishing because i can't swim. lol.
Sorry, i know u didn't ask anything about fishing but I ramble about it. I didnt mean to be sound like a know-it-all. I just love fishing and I miss it. I havent go fishing for a while but i love talking about it :D even though i dont know much and just talk about it from what i hv experienced.
haha yeah i wanna try the break room too. i think there is one like an hour from me, but i have to do reservation too n i think u pay depends on the size of think that u wanna break. :D
I can't really recal something bad that i did n nobody knows about it. i will tell u if i can remember it. what about u?
next question?
CHeerio!

34 for finnie boi and 45 for all :))
that's the perfect question for finn nonny he loves food 😌❤
Tumblr media
34) Does your character have favorite foods? (breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks, etc)
finn loves food and cooking. his favourite meal of the day is probably dinner, he just likes eating in the evening most cuz the dishes usually fill you up more aha!! he loves BBQs, but he also is really into seafood like crab and prawn linguine, prawn pizza, sea bass etc. he also loves curry and he's tried lots of those! his fave snacks tend to be savoury he loves potato chips but only the plain salted ones, but he will also eat whatever snack his mom bakes, usually cake or cupcakes! his fave cake is a chocolate and coffee cake and he always requests this on his birthday!! 🍭🍕🥞🥗🥩🥧
Tumblr media
45) Is your character the kind to hide their true emotions or do they wear their heart on their sleeve?
aoife: always hides her true feelings, she sees it as a weakness if she shows what she's thinking because her whole family kind of hide how they really feel lmao (not very healthy)!
luna: wears her heart on her sleeve </3 her emotions are always right there on her face, which is bad because she can't hide her negative emotions either LMAO
finn: conceals his feelings but not particularly well, he goes kind of quiet so it's obvious but not obvious enough to call him out on it !!!
avery: hides his feelings pretty well but always managed to let his irritation slip out if people tease or push him. other than that it's hard to tell how he's feeling.
isaac: 🧍‍♂️
zach: keeps his card close to his chest, but he does have moments where he feels comfortable enough to share something personal, but only with people he really trusts!!

In Fisherman
If there is an angler in your family members that you have to purchase a gift with regard to, consider this checklist as these everything is practical as well as useful and does not break a corner. I am sure you will receive a favorable reaction to your surprise.
The Japanese side with the community methodologies the lagoon, in which private docks can be found. The seas lead to the Intracoastal Stream, so people don’t have to vacation far to take pleasure from fishing along with boating all around Siesta Key. Moreover, the development carries a fish washing station and also barbecue bbq grills, as well as an open-air picnic area, which you could take care of the daily catch.
Additionally, there is an outdoor heated up pool along with lounge chairs. For the gulf facet, there is a shuffleboard that residents may possibly enjoy. In addition, if you feel such as staying at the property and straightening up with a fantastic read-on, the lanai, the actual poolside, or about the beach-then, you can just select a book in the library in the clubhouse.
                     In-Fisherman
In case your fisherman features everything this individual could probably need for an excellent fishing day time, there are angling trip offers available, including meals, places to stay, and charter-boat services. Fishing vacation packages are around for many regions both in America and Nova scotia. If this notion is too big, there are many locations in your local area in which these same varieties of arrangements may be booked beforehand.
The Wharf houses a number of fishermen, a few of which are multi-generational, who’ve been responsible for gathering Dungeness crabs for over a hundred years. You can purchase reside, whole (grilled) crab with no problems. Crab Season happens in Nov of at any time year and it is an important, historic event throughout San Francisco. Should your trip transpires with coincide using this type of event, and you’re simply a seafoods lover, you enter for a handle! If you’re an earlier riser, it is recommended to look at a trip right down to the Wharf early in the morning hours while you’ll have the chance to experience the anglers at work inside their element.
Expert trout anglers are very dedicated to everything that is because of the bass fish. They would like to have the maximum amount of knowledge as is possible and understand that all the information these people learn is a vital element of their success. Place your push for studying trout into full equipment and start studying how you can get to be the next specialist trout angler.
Living in the particular Turtle Beach location is a demure and-for some-a preferable lifestyle on this area paradise. You might have none of the beach-going masses and the frustrating traffic sounds of the winter months, but each of the island pleasures they arrived here for. Without a doubt, Fisherman’s Haven citizens get to love this little isle secret along with everything that it requires.
Foodies will not be overlooked from the exciting at Fisherman’s Wharf. The actual seafood accessible is some of the finest in the world, and lots of of the food items long linked to San Francisco, including exotic goodies and a sourdough loaf of bread, are readily available. Dinner ranges through taking away appears to great dining eating places where your alternatives are not tied to seafood merely.

The Best Recipes to Cook on Your Commercial BBQ
If you have stumbled across my blog page, then you will be well aware that I love to host a good old tasty BBQ. In my opinion, barbecued food is some of the best-tasting food that you’ll ever find, and most of all it can be done at home! I know it is a bit excessive, but I do own a commercial BBQ, as I like to cook up delicious BBQ feasts in the summertime for my friends and family. In this blog post, I have listed my favourite recipes that I love to cook on my commercial BBQ. Even if you don’t own one yourself, a disposable BBQ will still get the job done!
If you would like to venture out and are interested in becoming the best pit master there is, there are many companies that sell barbecue products and accessories, click here.
To cater for everybody, I have picked out a recipe for a variation of meats, as well as a vegetarian/vegan option too. So let’s get into it!
BBQ Chicken
Tumblr media
Starting off simple but effective, we have BBQ chicken, whether that be on the bone or off. When chicken is barbecued, scrumptious smells and flavours are produced, simply by charring your chicken to a beautiful golden colour, and until it's succulent and juicy inside. You can add a marinade or dry rub to your chicken before it goes on the barbecue. I recommend a rub with a little heat, such as a mix of paprika, garlic, and pepper.
I use this recipe from foodiecrush, who cooks her chicken to perfection! Apply a generous coating of your favourite BBQ sauce to your chicken once it is cooked for a taste sensation.
Beer-braised short ribs
Tumblr media
Now, this recipe is truly a showstopper, beer-braised short ribs! If you love American-style barbecues (the real BBQ experts) then you are bound to love this dish. Provided by BBC good food, this is the perfect beef dish. Despite you needing a lot of time for this recipe, it is definitely worth it. The slow cook of the short ribs makes the most delicious outcome that just melts in your mouth and is packed full of flavour. Whether you want to cook it on your BBQ or in an oven, this will be some of the best-barbecued meat you have ever tasted.
Royal barbecued pork loin
Tumblr media
This recipe by Jamie Oliver is one that everyone will love - my mouth is already watering just thinking about this tasty dish. The marinade and BBQ sauce that accompanies the pork creates a smoky, sweet, and sour infusion, that you cannot beat. Even when pork loin is barbecued alone, the outside becomes charred and crispy, whilst the middle remains silky and moist – what more could you want!
Of course, Jamie has dazzled this dish up with an apple and beetroot salad, which is also incredibly tasty and invigorating. I think some of my friends even preferred the salad over the meat, it’s that good!
BBQ lamb kebabs
Tumblr media
These lamb kebabs are a perfect dish, that is both quick and easy. I find any food that is on a skewer is so much easier to eat, and they especially come in handy when you’re hosting a BBQ with family and friends. This dish has a little Mediterranean twist, something different to your classic American barbecue. You might have already guessed but, if you haven’t, this dish is based on Greek food! This recipe by Simply Beef & Lamb shows you how to make 2 different marinades for a combination of flavours. The Tandoori marinade with Greek yoghurt, coriander and tandoori paste was my favourite.
Barbecued sea bass
Tumblr media
One of my all-time favourite fishes is sea bass, and I have grown to love it being cooked on the BBQ. Sea bass is so light and airy, I don’t think you can go wrong with it! I have found this recipe by House & Garden, which produces the most wonderful combination of flavours. The beautiful smoky flavour from the fish, along with the zesty vinaigrette, makes this dish perfect for summertime.
Cauliflower steaks
Tumblr media
My final recommendation is cauliflower steaks, which cater to all vegetarians and vegans. You could even have these as a side to your meat dishes, they are incredibly versatile! When cauliflower is barbecued it becomes very tender, and the outer edges become delicious and crispy, creating a beautiful texture. This recipe by Fork in the Kitchen has become a fan favourite amongst my friends and family.
And that is it! These are my favourite recipes that I cook on my commercial BBQ. I hope some of these have tickled your fancy, and you get to try them out too. I wish I could write some more down but I would be here forever – there are too many good and tasty BBQ recipes out there.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

🎊 Happy Publication Day Mandy @sambalshiok 🎊 ❤️ The photos were made with an incredible, talented team; Mandy @eat_love_travel @alexanderbreeze @sophiealicebronze @simonester77 @quadrillebooks @clairehrochford Celine @hardiegrantuk @mstrgringo 🙌🏼 Thank you❤️ Working on this book was really special; to share a connection via Mandy’s family recipes from my memories of my Malaysian Chinese mum’s cooking, family meals and celebrations like my bday satay bbqs, counting how many satay sticks were on the table at Hawker Centres to tally how many we’ve eaten, all the brilliant bright colours in desserts, walking along the vibrant pasar malams on holidays to visit family in Malaysia in Singapore (where the day literally revolves around what we’re going to eat next and talking about it while we’re eating!) These are some of my favourite images from the book and also the ones that bring comforting memories; eating roti pratha for breakfast from the small place across the road from my grandparent’s grocery shop in Batu Pahat, carefully selecting biscuits from the large metal containers in the shop, the soothing smell of Hainanese chicken rice being cooked and the small bowls of the broth that the chicken was cooked in, my mum’s steamed sea bass that I would request when home for dinner, the burning sensation that hits your eyes from chilli being in the air when you open the kitchen door because my mum is making sambal, handmade curry puffs which she adds to her food parcels and the shouting “#MAKAN!!” to whoever was upstairs, announcing dinner was ready and on the table! Storytelling through food is a way of connecting with one another and showing love. As one of the world's more preferred varietals, it is made throughout the world and in lots of, numerous various styles. Although difficult to generalise, on the whole, it's a large red wine that frequently emanates pepper on the coating. It is wonderful with herbs, and also often has sufficient fruit to balance a little bit of flavor.
No white fish, no oysters, no shrimp. No justifications. Red wine has dropped out of fashion over the last couple of years but its sales numbers confirm that although it might not be "stylish", it is still being drunk. We usually fail to remember about this grape as well as the soft berry flavors and also gorgeous eucalyptus nose its wines commonly have.

"Fish and chips" my way. Healthy version of fish and chips from BBQ.
Honey and orange glazed sea bass with spicy carrot fries and some greens served in a traditional British take away style !! It brings memories of how fish and chips have been served in UK. This nice presentation detail brought smiles on our faces and gave us a reason to talk about it. That’s about it when it comes to similarities between the classic and my skinny version. These Are the Most Luxurious Airport Lounges in Asia
Airport lounges are no longer just a place to while away your time in transit. The best airport lounges have become a five-star escape from the masses: spacious, stylish sanctuaries with their own restaurants and à la carte dining, a well-stocked bar plus creature comforts ranging from a day spa to private rooms.
Wind down and relax with a hand-picked list of seven havens for business travelers journeying to and through Asia.

The Pier First Class Lounge, Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific)
Cathay Pacific’s flagship lounge is best described as being “like an apartment owned by a friend, if that friend was far richer than you and had much better taste than you.” However, it’s not your mythical friend’s exquisite taste which makes The Pier First Class Lounge such a stunner.
Credit for that goes to London-based design doyen Ilse Crawford, who developed Cathay’s luxurious new-look lounges along residential rather than commercial lines. The Pier oozes understated elegance, thanks in part to Crawford’s choice of warm, tactile and timeless materials such as onyx, limestone and bronze.

After gliding down the escalator from the cavernous airport terminal to this cozy haven of a lounge, most travelers peel left to visit the dining room or try their luck requesting a foot massage (bad news, there’s almost always an hours-long waiting list). On long layovers, the private day suites provide a relaxing contemplative space while the sizable shower suites with Aesop amenities leave you feeling not only refreshed but recharged.
The large bar is another standout, as is the curated music playlist which seamlessly shifts its vibe to suit the time of day. (We should make mention of the nearby The Pier Business Class lounge, which has a similarly elegant design, great showers plus a Noodle Bar and tended bar of its own — we’d rate this as among the world’s best business class lounges.)

Who gets in
First-class passengers on Cathay Pacific and other Oneworld member airlines flying out of Hong Kong (such as British Airways), along with top-tier frequent flyers across the Oneworld alliance (such as Oneworld Emerald, Marco Polo Diamond and Diamond Plus, British Airways Executive Club Gold, and Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum and Platinum One).
Centurion Dining Room, Hong Kong (American Express)
What is arguably Hong Kong’s most exclusive restaurant isn’t found behind imposing doors at Admiralty or bathed in the bright lights of Kowloon. It’s tucked away on the upper level of Hong Kong airport, inside the American Express Centurion Lounge.
The restaurant is the AMEX Centurion Dining Room, and the menu is crafted by Lau Yiu Fai, Executive Chef of the InterContinental Hong Kong’s two-Michelin-starred Yan Toh Heen restaurant. A highlight of the all-day menu include Oscietra caviar served atop a mix of Dungeness crab meat and crème fraîche, but served on locally-inspired seaweed crackers rather than blinis.
Well-heeled travellers can also sup on pan-fried sea bass and Hokkaido scallop, with a ratatouille emulsion and a basil lobster sauce; and beef short rib pot-au-feu, adorned by vegetables and shaved truffles atop a small bed of noodles. Add a glass of G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon Champagne and your flight is off to a wonderful start before you even leave the ground.
Who gets in
Passengers whose names are laser-etched onto the invitation-only titanium American Express Centurion card.
Royal Orchid Spa, Bangkok (Thai Airways)
(Source: Luxe Traveller)
This isn’t a lounge per se, but it’s an adjunct to the Royal First Class lounge at Thai’s home hub with offers indulgently hour-long free massages. This is perhaps the major drawcard for first-class flyers, as Thai’s first-class lounge itself can’t hold a scented candle to the best of its competitors.
The serenely quiet treatment rooms are decked out like that of any upscale Thai spa with warm woods and a separate shower area.
Travellers can relax before or between flights with a full body massage incorporating acupressure techniques to relax the muscles, relieve stress and stimulate blood circulation. Additional herbal steam and sauna treatment “ease the aches out of your travel-weary body”, the airline promises. After your session, soothing tea is served in a sitting room while tranquil music plays in the background.
Who gets in
First-class passengers on Thai Airways (however, business class and Royal Orchid Plus Platinum status frequent flyers qualify for a free neck and shoulder or foot massage).
The Private Room, Singapore (Singapore Airlines)
“The Private Room”. Even the name has a certain patina of exclusivity. And Singapore Airlines chose that name well, as the only way you’ll get into The Private Room is to have a boarding pass for Singapore Airlines’ first-class suites.
The emphasis is on not only privacy but calm serenity, a world away from the clatter of the nearby business lounge which is almost always bursting at the seams. That said, The Private Room isn’t a lush oasis of luxury: it’s a little old-world and perhaps even worn around the edges, which is why Singapore Airlines is embarking on a 50 million Singapore dollar ($36 million) upgrade of The Private Room and its other flagship Changi Terminal 3 lounges across the next two years.
The dining room is certain to remain a centerpiece of The Private Room’s appeal. With its parquetry floor, wide plushly-padded leather lounge chairs and wall panelling, discrete lighting and dusky tones the dining room channels the spirit of an English club. The Private Lounge’s dining room menus are changed seasonally, although several favorites of the frequent first class flyers remain as a culinary north star, including wok-friend lobster, chirashizushi and, of course, satay. Piper Heidsieck Rare Millesime and Charles Heidsieck Champagne headline the drinks menu.
Who gets in
The Private Room is exclusively for first class passengers on Singapore Airlines.
Japan Airlines First Class Lounge, Tokyo Narita
(Source: Lajollamom.com)
Japan is a food-lover’s paradise, and the nation’s dueling flag-carriers ANA and JAL (Japan Airlines) both take pride in the meals they serve in flight and on the ground. Japan Airlines has, for the time being, wrested that crown with the dining room of its newly-renovated first-class lounge at Tokyo’s Narita Airport.
Two sushi chefs serve freshly-prepared sushi and sashimi, with the menu changing weekly so that regular travellers don’t tire of the same fare.
There’s also a ramen counter, a champagne bar where the choice between Taittinger and Laurent-Perrier could involve a glass of each, and, as you’d expect, a premium sake selection. Other creature comforts available at the JAL’s flagship first class lounge include a shoe-shine service.
Who gets in
First-class passengers on Japan Airlines and other Oneworld member airlines flying out of Tokyo/Narita, along with top-tier frequent flyers across the Oneworld alliance (such as Oneworld Emerald, JAL Diamond and Premier, and Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Diamond and Diamond Plus).
Qantas Lounge, Hong Kong
(Source: Qantas)
This unassuming Asian outpost of iconic Aussie airline Qantas eclipses most business class lounges when it comes to pre-flight bites. Instead of bland “international” or predictable Western food, travelers have a last chance to enjoy authentic Hong Kong meals.
No wonder there’s often a queue at the BBQ Pork Bar for some Cantonese-style char siu, or a frisson of foodie excitement when the yum cha trolley tray trundles around with dim sum and custard egg tarts.
Complement this with a cocktail or two from the bar and you’ll soon appreciate why the Qantas lounge is a hit with business class passengers and frequent flyers alike.
Who gets in
Business-class passengers on Qantas and other Oneworld member airlines jetting out of Hong Kong, along with frequent flyers holding Oneworld Emerald and Oneworld Sapphire status (equivalent to Qantas Platinum and Gold, British Airways Gold and Silver, and Cathay Diamond and Gold).
Qatar Airways Premium Lounge, Bangkok
(LoyaltyLobby.com)
Qatar Airways has barely a half-dozen lounges in its network, but they’re all classy affairs.
The Premium Lounge at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport opened earlier this year, with this business class lounge winning instant popularity for its à la carte dining room – a sight more common in first-class lounges.
The Bangkok lounge is a compact version of Qatar’s highly-regarded Premium Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 4, so travellers can expect the same quality of furnishings plus a dress code which keeps things respectable among the hoi polloi (even if you consider shorts suitable for Bangkok weather).
Who gets in
Business-class and first-class passengers on Qatar Airways and other Oneworld member airlines flying out of Bangkok (a long roster which includes British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Japan Airlines and Malaysia Airlines).

Keralan Tandoori Fish
The marinade goes well with almost any fish. I used sea bass and bream.
Tandoors and BBQs offer an excellent, healthy way to cook seafood. In this recipe I show you how I did it in my tandoor but there is not reason you can’t skewer your fish up and cook them on the barbecue. The trick is getting the skewering right which I will show you how to do.
The marinade I used is a recipe I learned in Munnar, Kerala. It is quite spicy but can be toned down by adding more yoghurt. Personally, I like it spicy. Any unused marinade can be served, warmed as a sauce with the fish.
By the way, I hold tandoor classes at my home in North Yorkshire where you can cook in a real tandoor oven. The 4 hours classes are a lot of fun and you won’t go away hungry. For more information, please click here.
Lowest Price Guarantee!
Marinate the fish in the roasted tomato marinade for about 20 minutes.
Skewer the fish as described in the recipe below.
Over hot coals on the BBQ or in a flaming hot tandoor, roast the fish for about five minutes.
Remove from the heat and allow to drip for five minutes and then place back on or in the heat to finish cooking.
Keralan Tandoori Fish
Author: Dan Toombs
Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Keralan
Prep time:  5 mins
Cook time:  10 mins
Total time:  15 mins
Serves: 4
Instructions
Make shallow slits on each side of the fish and smother with the marinade inside and out. The marinade, as it is is quite spicy. Stir in one or more tablespoons Greek yoghurt to taste if you prefer a milder heat.
To skewer the fish, stick your skewer in the mouth end and guide it down the spine of the fish out the tail end. I have found that this is the best way to do it especially in a tandoor oven. I have never lost a fish that way!
If cooking in a tandoor, skewer a potato at the end to stop the fish from sliding into the fire.
Place your skewers either over direct heat on the bbq or into a flaming hot tandoor oven.
Cook, turning often if on a BBQ for about five minutes. Then take the fish off or out of the heat for five minutes to drip. This is important as it will prevent flareups and also help achieve crispier skin. If you like, you could brush some more marinade on the fish at this time.
Place it back on or in the heat to continue cooking for about five minutes. Serve immediately with some of the warmed roasted tomato chutney.

The Feast of the Seven Fishes: Why Philly goes wild for seafood every Christmas
For many Americans of Italian Catholic descent, Christmas Eve is all about fish. Shellfish counts too, as do eels and squid. It’s one of American-Italians’ most persevering traditions — the Feast of the Seven Fishes.
No one has uncovered exactly how the popular custom became known by this name, though there are obvious antecedents in both Catholic canon and Italian culture. But one thing is certain: The ritual is hugely popular in Philadelphia.
Just ask a fishmonger.
“Dec. 23 and 24 are our busiest days of the year, by far,” said Anthony D’Angelo, fourth-generation owner of Ippolito’s Seafood at 13th and Dickinson in South Philly. He estimates business nearly doubles on those days, and he’s noticed that fish-seeking customers come in all ages.
“If you’re a young foodie, you’ll stop in and buy things spur of the moment,” he explained. “But if you’re an older Italian-American, you’ve been preparing for a month. You’ve got everything already ordered.”
Anastasi Seafood is similarly busy. “We probably do five percent of the entire year’s business this week,” guessed Andrew Steckman, a fifth-generation fish merchant. His family’s market on Ninth and Washington contains a dining room with liquor license, and on Dec. 24, the bar opens at 8 am so customers can have a holiday breakfast tipple while waiting for their take-home stuffed “galamad” and scungilli salad.
“My family has a longstanding Seven Fish tradition,” said Philly food writer and Green Aisle Grocery co-owner Adam Erace. “From when I was born till probably about 25, we did it every year at my maternal grandparents’ house. Then mom took it over and expanded the party to include my dad’s side and family friends. We roll about 50 deep these days.”
Erace’s feasting on Vigilia di Natale is even more impressive now that he’s married — his wife’s family also does a Seven Fishes dinner, and so he spends half the night in South Philly and the other half in Bucks County, doubling down on the oceanic epicurean adventure. Put simply: “It’s nuts.”
The tradition of going meatless the night before Christmas harks back to the Catholic Church’s penitential rule of “mangiare di magro,” which dictates lean eating on days before religious holidays. In most of sea-surrounded Italy, meatless equals fish. (As Mario Batali once remarked to Epicurious, eating seafood is “what Italians do when they say they’re fasting.”)
And what to make of the seven?
“The number seven is pretty important in not only the Judeo-Christian tradition, but also in pagan rituals,” pointed out Francis Cratil Cretarola, co-owner of East Passyunk’s Brigantessa and Le Virtu. There’s the seven deadly sins. The seven days of creation. Seven sacraments. Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit — aka the seven virtues — and even the seven veils danced away by Salome.
That being said, the number has absolutely nothing to do with how much or how many types of seafood you eat during one of these ritual Christmas Eve spreads. Some families have a tradition of three (the Holy Trinity), 10 (the stations of the cross), 12 (the apostles) or 13 (the apostles plus Jesus). Others don’t count courses at all.
“I usually have 30 people at my house and cook…but it’s more like 8-10 fish,” said Marc Vetri, who grew up eating the seafood feast at his grandmother’s and aunt’s houses in South Philly.
“My father’s family always had fish on Christmas Eve in Italy, but not always seven,” said Carlo Sena, whose family owns Ristorante Panorama and the Penn’s View Hotel. “When they came to the US they started to incorporate seven. We now tend to make more than seven — never have to worry about not hitting that mark.”
Still, “Seven Fishes” is what everyone calls it, no matter how many courses they serve. Why? Maybe because it just sounds good.
“Seven is a lucky number!” observed Anastasi’s Steckman.
Flickr / milky.way
Exactly what is served at these Christmas Eve feasts also varies, although baccala (dried salt cod) is almost always included. That’s likely because while in most of Italy, meat-free means fresh fish, it’s different in the central, mountainous regions, where the only seafood historically available was something dried and easily transportable. (The other courses in those areas would have been vegetables, pasta and grains.)
At Mamma Maria, one of East Passyunk’s few remaining old-school red-gravy spots, the Christmas Eve menu sets out this strict list of the “traditional” seven fishes:
1. Baccala (salt cod) 2. Gamberi (shrimp) 3. Calamari (squid) 4. Sogliola (sole) 5. Merluzzo (smelts) 6. Conchiglia (clams) 7. Salmone (salmon)
At more contemporary Fork in Old City, the multi-course meal includes amelia oysters, lobster pici and parsnip-stuffed bass — plus baccala croquets, of course. At Little Nonna’s in Midtown Village, the baccala comes carpaccio-style, along with grilled octopus and squid ink pasta with Maryland crab. The most popular dish at South Philly’s Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill, which has been offering Seven Fishes takeout for nearly half a century, is stuffed calamari.
Chef Brad Spence cooks three separate Seven Fishes dinners this year: A high-end affair served in the upstairs dining room at Vetri Cucina (Dec. 22), the annual blow-out event that packs the floor at Amis (Dec. 23), and his own party at home on Christmas Eve proper.
“At home, I like to do a mix of traditional and untraditional. For example, this year I’m doing a Mexican-style shrimp cocktail,” he divulged, adding: “I’m a chef, so I think about my menu for months — if not all year — but really the food is secondary to simply enjoying each other’s company.”
Seven Fishes may have its roots in religion and be rife with culinary rituals, but these days, it’s all about people.
“It’s never really been about the food for me,” said Adam Erace. “My grandmother is a phenomenal cook, but seafood was never her forte, so I grew up hating almost everything that was served. I’d sit there and eat a pound of shrimp cocktail and oyster crackers and nothing else. It’s more about the tradition and keeping it alive.”
“Christmas Eve has always been the bigger holiday for us,” noted Panorama’s Sena. “It’s the day the extended families get together and everyone brings their kids, exchanges gifts and takes some time to celebrate our good fortunes.”
As Frank Barbato of Bomb Bomb BBQ remarked: “Good food always brings together good family and friends.”
