It’s been three weeks and you have not talked to Christian since that day he took you to dinner.

Christian was nice to you, he made good points, he paid attention to what you had to say and your concerns, and he made sure that you felt comfortable. Luchasuarus was very nice to you too.

But you couldn’t get his voice out of your head as you noticed differences in Jack’s treatment towards you.

“That’s no way to treat someone, especially one person that he claims to love.” “He does love me-“ “Why isn’t he here then?”

You didn’t know where he was as he was appearing less and less in your life. Now, you only really see him for work. No more dates. No more good morning texts, no presents, no hugs, no love, not even a warm smile in your direction.

Nothing.

“Y/N, you deserve better in multiple ways.”

You couldn’t put your finger on why he was distant from you, especially right now (in a time when you two needed each other). You’ve done everything he’s asked. You were the one who defended his actions. For a brief moment, you really thought that you were the problem.

No, you couldn’t be the problem. After all, you were just following your script as the loving and caring girlfriend who was willing to turn her back on her family for her boyfriend. Upon close analysis, you realize that you weren’t the problem, it was Jack….specifically it was Jack still talking and seeing his ex, Anna Jay, for the past month.

“That’s no way to treat someone, especially one person that he claims to love.”

It wasn’t.

How dare he?

How dare he turn his back on you, the woman who has gone through hell just to prove your loyalty? How dare he sabotage your relationship with your brother while he was sabotaging your own relationship? He said he was over Anna, that “it didn’t work out.” But it was a lie. And now that lie was gonna cost him…you were gonna make him pay for his second deception.

He has it coming.

But, not right now. It was his big night, after all, July 19th. After weeks of taunting Hook/Tyler, Jack finally got his FTW Championship match with your younger brother.

“Tonight’s the night, baby! Tonight’s the night, I’ll finally get everything that I deserve.” Jack said as you slicked his hair back.

“Yeah, you’re gonna get everything coming to you.” You smirked secretly and mentally threw up in your mind.

“Thanks for taking care of everything for me, baby. From the vignette to getting the contract written and signed. I’m so thankful to have you.”

The contract he was referring to was the match details between your boyfriend and your brother. It had your standard rules that Hook was entitled to a rematch if he lost and that Jack would win the championship if Tyler was disqualified or counted out. But it also had things concerning you; like that you couldn’t challenge for the championship as long as your brother was the champion. Even though you really want the championship, you decided not to go after it. This was after your dad asked for there to be peace and respect between his children, and the only way to do that was to not fight your brother. So you decided to fully help Jack obtain it.

“It’s my pleasure, babe.” You said emphasizing the last word while rolling your eyes. You finished his hair as you continued talking, “Besides, I don’t want you to worry about anything. All you need to do is worry about winning the championship.”

He gave you a kiss before sliding on his jacket and looking at himself in the mirror. His phone silently lit up, you glanced over and read a message….from Anna…wishing him luck and promising him a reward afterward. You scowled to yourself as Jack put on his sunglasses, solidifying his aura as a cheating and lying asshole. Then your phone notified you of a text…from your brother. And your heart jumped as you read it.

Tyler: hey, I know we are feelin some type of way toward each other but we need to talk. Sometime soon, for dad sake and for my sake. We miss you. I love you.

To be honest, your anger towards Tyler had diminished. It was being redirected at Jack, rightfully so. Now you missed your brother, but you still couldn’t help but feel a particular way after he became the golden child in your family and forgot about you. But you no longer wanted to fight him.

Time Skip: 10 Minutes later

The match started with the two trading blows. You became more anxious as the match went on as it looked like it could be a draw. However, the referee was knocked out by Jack pushing Tyler into him. As the referee was down, Jack hit your younger brother with the FTW belt, making Tyler hit the mat hard. A lightbulb went off in your head as you got the ref up to count to three as Jack pinned Tyler. The bell rang and you rushed into the ring, giving the belt to Jack. He smiled hard as his name was announced as the winner and new champion and as your brother laid on the mat.

The crowd booed heavily as he hugged you. You just looked back at him with a forced smile on your face, but it soon dropped when a certain theme song played loudly in the arena, making a bunch of boos and gasps interrupt. Jack looked shocked as he realized that his former mentor appeared on the stage with Luchasuarus.

Christian walked down to the ring with a smirk, with Luchasuarus in tow. He entered the ring with a smile and slowly, mockingly, clapped for your boyfriend. Jack stepped in front of you, pushing you behind him. He raised the FTW championship, yelling to Christian about his victory and how he was better than him.

He just kept going on and on until…you turned him around and slapped him, to the surprise of the audience. It was a mixture of boos and cheers as Luchasuarus tackled Jack while you and Christian looked on in the corner with smiles on your faces.

“Great job, princess.” Christian said as he landed a kiss on your forehead.

“Thank you.” You said as your smile widened.

Remember at the beginning when it said that you didn’t talk to Christian after the meeting?

Yeah…that was a lie.

You two did a lot more than talking after you found out that Jack was cheating on you.

While your so-called boyfriend was with his ex, Christian was being nothing more than a gentleman and prioritized you. At first, it was revenge, but over the weeks, you couldn’t help to fall for Christian’s charms. He paid attention to you, showered you with presents, communicated with you every day, and literally gave you everything you wanted…including the contract that Jack and Tyler signed.

"Baby girl, I want to treat you how you deserve to be treated. You deserve everything in the world. This contract is the first step. If you get them to sign this, it will unlock a world of treasure and happiness. Even if you don't, I'll still be here for you because you need a real man. Not a boy who runs off to his past when he realizes he can't handle a real woman."

Luchasuarus chokeslammed Jack onto the mat as Christian cornered the referee and ring announcer. He made the announcer state that the next match would be for the FTW Championship as the referee rang the bell, signifying the start of the match. You immediately covered Jack with your foot on his chest. The referee counted to three, the bell rang, and your theme song played.

“Here’s your winner and the new FTW Champion, Y/N!” The announcer said as Christian raised your hand in victory.

Granted, you couldn’t face your brother for the FTW Championship, however, if someone else (like Jack) was the champion, you would be immediately guaranteed a title shot as it is your birthright as the daughter of the title’s creator. The same thing went for Tyler, although he was a former champion and he never got his rematch, he could never challenge for the title as long as you were the current champion.

“I’m so proud of you, princess. You deserve this.” Christian said, grasping your hips, and pulling you closer.

“Thank you.” You blushed as you looked up at him. You leaned up to his ear to whisper, “How about we go to the hotel to celebrate properly?”

Christian immediately chuckled, swiftly kissed you, and led you out of the ring, hands interlocked.

As you walked up the ramp with Christian, you were overcome with bliss. You were happy, finally, after weeks of stress and neglect. You had the championship and a partner who truly respected you. Looking back at Jack’s broken and lifeless body made it even better as you realize he had nothing left.

No best friend. No championship. And no longer being able to use you for personal gain.

After all, he had it coming.

And he only had himself to blame.

and i'm sitting on a bench in coney island wondering where did my baby go? the fast times, the bright lights, the merry go sorry for not making you my centerfold

atsumu spends his time sitting on a bench, trying not to cry. which is rich coming from him because he states he never cries. he misses you more than you think. he should be heading home to aurora to listen to her complain about something new she's going through. but he can't bring himself to get off this bench. you used to force him to sit on the bench and watch the stars. he realises now how stupid you must have felt. when everything went down.

he hasn't seen you anymore since you both graduated college. osamu, the only person from college who you insist on talking to, says you're doing well actually. osamu only talks about you, as if we all are still in high school again.

"didya know that y/n got accepted to med school?"

"they apparently got invited to model for some small time company!"

"y/n and kenma started playing video games together."

and he couldn't help but to think that this is his way of punishing him for taking y/n away from him, so many years ago.

y/n's hot pink converse place a little mud each step as you walks to the door and the more steps you take the more freaked out you get. a whole new school and everything. "it's going to fun! c'mon home economics is like, the easiest class alive." aurora stated so matter-of-fact "i know, but-" when aurora opens the wooden door to the classroom, you make eye contact, with a boy of course. but he just kept staring as you walked in. and you couldn't help but stare right back. everyone already had a spot and there was one seat right by him and another by a blonde boy who looked all too well similar to other boy. aurora quickly took the spot by the blonde boy and you couldn't help but to grin at her happiness to finally talk to a boy.

once you took your seat, you smiled at the gray haired boy and told him your name.

"y/n. sophomore."

"osamu. sophomore."

he didn't like talking to you (at least you thought) and he mostly spent his time correcting the teacher on cooking recipes. for the first time, you just stared at him, mostly in shock at how someone could be so good at cooking.

but by the end of the class, you felt at least a little bit closer to him. his favorite food was rice, he had a twin named atsumu, and is the spiker for the high school volleyball team. the more times you pulled up the chair next to him home economics, the closer you got to him.

by the end of freshman year, you were osamu's honorary best friend. his competitive demeanor came out quickly as you two spent the afternoons playing volleyball together when his parents were working.

you ran your hand through your hair, grinning. "c'mon 'samu, i know you can do better." he smirked back at you, "y/n, you're so mediocre at volleyball, don't even."

"i'm still winning-"

"by one point."

"so what?"

atsumu remembered how beautiful you looked playing with osamu. also remembering how much he wanted- no needed- you. he wouldn't tell you but aurora and him were about to start dating but once he saw you he knew he didn't want her.

so he spent his whole highschool chasing after you. he needed you. you just radiated kindness and happiness. you were the teenage dream. he couldn't help but to feel some sort of jealousy towards you. but the more times he coaxed you out of spending time with osamu, the more he realized how different you are.

confidence and beauty.

the more you noticed atsumu running after you, the more you noticed the fact that osamu was avoiding you. you mainly thought that it was because your parents decided to ground you for the whole senior year. (you don't like to admit it but it was because your parents caught you drinking with aurora)

"trust me, 'samu is not mad at you! he just notices that- you and i are closer."

"i mean, tell him we can hang out tomorrow at the cinema." atsumu nods his head in response.

"i'll see you on monday! have a nice weekend." he says before heading to his car.

osamu didn't show up to the cinema but atsumu did. "i'm so sorry y/n- i don't know why he got his panties in such a twist. you and i can go watch a movie, right?" that was the day you realized you were so over osamu and now drunk on atsumu.

you constantly tried to ignore how aurora and atsumu talked and whispered to each other. but you couldn't shake that he likes her. you even had the thought that maybe you and osamu not talking anymore was a curse, maybe he is the better miya twin. but that night, senior prom, he completely proved you wrong. and you two started dating the next day.

as fast as you two started dating, he knew it was over that night. the look in your eyes which he you would've loved him for a lifetime. and the sadness he felt right after watching you leave. as he sits and looks up at the sky he hopes you might be kind when you remember him. even though he wasn't kind to you, he hopes for forgiveness.

you fiddle with the straps of your white dress while also playing with your feet. you can't believe you're sitting in osamu's house after everything. as sappy as it sounds you can't believe you met him, again. he's just perfect.

his light airy smiles right at you. and only at you. you can't help but to feel that it was destiny to end up with osamu.

it all started with atsumu breaking your heart that you found osamu again. sitting in some five star restaurant, post breakup. he knew it was you the second you walked in. he would even serve you just to talk to you again,

"hi y/n."

"osamu, wow, you work here?"

how lucky you are. he might possibly be the better miya twin.

We all heard your least favourite Eggman moments from the games, but what about your favourites?

Wanting Sonic to suffer in SEGA Sonic Arcade: People like to say that Eggman isn't sadistic, but I'd argue that he can be, at least when Sonic and his friends are involved. There can be no other explanation for why he set up an island filled with death traps, with no ulterior motive beyond laughing at Sonic's utter panic and misery.

The Bad Futures in Sonic CD: This is a more indirect one, but it still qualifies. Think Eggman winning would be harmless? Show 'em these. Palmtree Panic becomes polluted beyond repair, Quartz Quadrant has been hollowed out completely, Stardust Speedway has become a garish shadow of its former self… even his own facilities have seen better days, though that's purely because his manchild sensibilities dictate that he moves on to conquer more lands when he's grown bored with what he already has.

The Bad Futures are a high point of Sonic storytelling in general, since they use visuals to convey a darker and deeper narrative without being inappropriately hamfisted about it like the zombot arc. That Eggman is the one responsible for them in-universe just makes them all the more sweeter.

Working hard in S3&K: He really wants to get the Death Egg up and running, and you can't stop him. Eggman has always stood out by being more active than his villainous peers, but no game highlights that better than Sonic 3 & Dante from the Devil May Cry series. He burns down forests, he tears down ruins, he traps ghosts, he reignites volcanos… and he tricks the local guardian. Even after a temporary setback the first time around, he does eventually succeed the second time, with a newly acquired Master Emerald on top of that.

But he didn't stop there, did he? Once Sonic confronts him aboard the Death Egg, the mad scientist threw everything he had at the hedgehog. I believe the finale to S3&K will always be one of the best in the series, and a major reason for that is because it shines a spotlight on the important tidbit that Eggman will never, ever stop… just like Sonic.

Everything in SA1: Well, aside from maybe the end, since that was the moment that kickstarted a certain trend...

But BEFORE that point, Eggman was magnificent in this game. He unleashes Chaos on the world, but continues to throw his own weight via the Egg Carrier and the E-Series. He collects some emeralds on his own, while swiping other emeralds from the heroes at just the right moments. When the Egg Carrier is down, he resorts to the missile, too furious and vengeful to care if he himself is caught in the crossfire. Then he directly threatens a young boy with murder, for good measure.

Chaos may have been the final obstacle of SA1, but Eggman was unquestionably the main driving force of SA1.

The fake emerald scene in SA2: Even someone who isn't all that big on SA2's story can admit this moment is a classic. The doctor has a few badass moments in this game, like his one man raid on Prison Island, and blowing up the moon, but this is arguably the best one. The heroes thought they had him fooled, but NOPE, he turns the tables in an instant, and had Sonic not deus ex machina'd his way out of the capsule with the fake emerald, he'd have been a dead man right then and there.

Just a shame that, like everything else Eggman does in SA2, it's somewhat undermined by him being Shadow's pawn the whole time. (So going back to what I said about not being big on SA2's story…)

Kidnapping Vanilla in Advance 2: This one always makes me laugh with how ridiculously petty it is. There is absolutely no practical reason for it, it doesn't benefit any plan of any sort, he just really hates little rabbit girls and wants to punish them for existing.

Driving Emerl insane in Battle: Yeah, the aftermath is regrettable (spoiler: ANOTHER upstaging), but the sheer cruelty in overwhelming the Gizoid with power for all his friends to witness, after the latter was willing to let bygones be bygones, is a moment of pure unadulterated villainy.

Having a more creepy design than Mephiles in '06: Poor Mephiles tries so hard to act all spooky and menacing, but Realistic Eggman with his golden nipples does a much better job at freaking everyone out without even trying. Eggman: 1, Mephiles: 0.

(This is a joke answer… maybe.)

The intro and Egg Dragoon in Unleashed: Eggman is arguably treated as something of an afterthought for the middle of the game (much like the plot itself actually), but these two moments are undeniably iconic for the doctor. An action-packed beginning is tapped off with Eggman cancelling out Super Sonic and firing his unfortunately shaped cannon, and the glory of Eggmanland being brought to life is rounded out with one of Eggman's absolute best mechs in the series, in a battle that kicks the adrenaline into overdrive.

Even if Dark Gaia comes along to ruin the mood afterwards, it can't dampen the awesomeness of this fight.

The final boss in Colours is… him!: I still remember my absolute shock when I learned that there were no smoke and mirrors, no cruel tricks, that Eggman was indeed the honest-to-god final-final-boss in a 3D game for the very first time. Took over a goddamn decade for it to happen, but y'know... better late than never.

I was already grateful with the Eggman content in Colours thanks to the legendary public announcements throughout the rest of the game, but this was the much deserved icing on the cake. And while the Nega-Wisp Armor might not be the most complex final boss in a 3D Sonic, I still think it's fun in its own right.

Finally securing a monster in Generations: What else is there to say? After having bad luck with previous ones, it was long overdue, and since Time Eater is arguably tied with Solaris as the most powerful of the lot, it couldn't have been a better candidate. The fact that he pilots and controls it directly really seals the deal.

Punching a wall of ice in Lost World: C'mon, that scene was metal. As were the bloodthirsty threats that Eggman muttered to Zavok and Zazz, who appeared to actually be taken aback if their reactions were of any indication. Shame he never did get his hands on them... but I guess he was too busy taking back his final boss role behind the scenes, eh?

Fighting back against Heavy King in Mania: What could have been a groanworthy finale to an otherwise grade-A Sonic experience is wisely averted when Eggman doesn't take that betrayal shit sitting down. And unlike with Chaos, he doesn't get shot down before he can do anything.

What's really interesting is that despite Heavy King having a more impressive transformation in comparison to the withered state of the Klepto Mobile, the game itself seems to treat Eggman as the higher authority between the two, since it's specifically him, NOT King, who Super Sonic rams into one last time for dramatic effect in the post-battle cutscene.

Everything in Forces: He may have had a little help with the Phantom Ruby, but he asserted his world dominance much better than SatAM Robotnik ever did, and he never sat around idly while the heroes tried to stop him either.

That's all great on its own, but his endless backup plans make it even better: Death Egg's destroyed? Send Sonic to Null Space. He gets out of Null Space? Drop an artificial sun on his enemies. The artificial sun is foiled? Overclock the Phantom Ruby and use its powers more extensively than Infinite ever did. The first final boss is defeated? There's a second one lock and loaded. And since Infinite was the one who dropped a Ruby replica during his fight with Silver, Eggman's ultimate downfall isn't even his own fault.

We can talk all day about what else they could have done with the plot of Forces, but anyone who says Eggman doesn't deserve credit for his showing in this game probably hates him and/or writes for an overrated comic.

It’s been a few days since the incident and because of the amount of bruising, you decided to stay inside and hidden away in John B’s house.

“You can’t do that!” You pout, watching JJ lay down multiple uno cards.

“I just did.” He smirks, “uno!”

You groan, tossing your hand of cards on the pile, “You win again.” You mumble under your breath.

“You didn’t think I would go easy on you, did you?” He begins gathering the cards in his hands.

“I mean..” You gently knock the deck of cards out of his hands and crawl over to him, “I figured you’d let your girlfriendwin at least once.”

He hums in response, pulling you on top of him and hands on your hips, “When have I ever gone easy on you?” He leans up a little and brushes his lips against yours, “Just because you’re my girlfriend now, doesn’t automatically mean I’m going to let you win each time.” He slowly moves his lips across your jaw line, “I’m too competitive for that.”

He kept his promise to himself. The next night after the incident, he came clean about his feelings. Even if you already knew and vice versa, he knew about yours. But the two of you finally made it official. There was no hiding or pushing away feelings anymore.

“Y/n, the thought of you being with someone else it makes me sick. I want you. I want all of you and I always have.” JJ follows you out of the Chateau, “We can’t keep running away from these feelings!”

You stop and face him, “What if we get together and find out we actually hate each other? Not only would I be losing my boyfriend, but I would be losing my best friend too!”

“I don’t plan on leaving you, y/n. That’s how much I love you and want to be with you.” He closes the gap between the two of you, “I can’t see myself with anyone but you!”

Tears prick your eyes as you stare at the determined blonde in front of you, “JJ…”

He shakes his head, “No. Listen to me.” His hands gently cup your cheeks, eyes focused on yours, “When I see myself standing at the altar, it’s you in a white dress I see walking down the aisle to me. When I see myself becoming a father, it’s you I see standing by my side, holding that baby. I see you and me old and grey sitting on a porch with our grandkids running around the front yard. I see you wiping my ass when I get old.” He chuckles and you let out a heartfelt laugh. He gently wipes a stray tear from your eyes, “I don’t see anyone else. You are the one standing by my side. You are my future, y/n.”

Your head tilts into his hand as you stare up into his piercing blue eyes, “So, this is it, we’re finally going to be together?”

“Finally.” He whispers and his lips meet yours.

When your bruises had finally faded, you and the pogues were seated at the Wreck eating lunch when he walked in. JJ was the first to spot him and he immediately tensed up, fist clenched.

“JJ…” You whispered, taking a hold of his hand, “Calm down.”

“I am calm.” He says through clenched teeth.

It’s when he walks up to the bar and glances your way, sending you a wink, that JJ snaps. He’s out of the chair in seconds, sending it sliding back.

“JJ-”

“He’s not worth it, JJ.” Pope tries to reason.

JJ doesn’t see anything but red when he makes his way to your ex.

“What’s up Maybank? I see you’re picking up my scraps?” Your ex smirks, peering passed JJ to you.

JJ doesn’t answer and instead punches him as hard as he can, sending the boy staggering back into his friends.

“JJ!” You gasp.

Your ex laughs darkly, wiping the bit of blood from his nose, “Oh you’re dead, Maybank.” He swings and hits JJ back.

“Not if I don’t kill you first.” JJ tackles your ex, sending them both into a table and it breaks into pieces. It took Pope, John B and another by stander to pull JJ off him. Your ex was left a bloody mess to the point you really didn’t know if he was alive or not.

“I can’t believe you did that.” You say wetting a cloth before turning to the injured JJ sitting on the edge of the tub.

“I couldn’t hold back.” He winces as you wipe the blood from his nose.

“You shouldn’t have done that though. You could have got into some serious trouble.”

“Yeah I should have killed him for what he did to you.” He mutters, looking up at you.

You stop your motions and look down at him, “JJ.. don’t talk like that.”

His hands rub the back of your legs, “He hurt you, y/n. I wasn’t going to let him get away with it.”

You sigh and continue cleaning the wounds.

“I was ready to kill him that night it happened. Then you woke up and begged me not to leave you alone. So, it was just a matter of time before it was going to happen.” His hand lifts up to your cheek and he caresses the faded bruise on your cheek with the back of his fingers, “He hurt my girl.” He says softly.

“I wasn’t your girl at the time.”

“You’ve always been my girl, even when someone else called you theirs.”

Ok no, he’s got an inflated sense of honor. But let’s twist that on its head - what if Cyclonus was pushed to piracy due to Scourge and Galvatron getting held hostage. I’d like to imagine Cyclonus was the most reasonable of the three of them, and that’s why it was him who was bargained with. So he’s still got his sense of honor, a set of rules he’s not allowed to break, and he’s a pirate.

What are these rules? First and foremost, he will not kill unnecessarily. He has to do one good thing, no matter how big or small, for each bad thing he does. No getting overcharged, no taking part in what he plunders, no rescue attempts rescue Scourge and Galvatron until he has everything he needs.

The Intergalactic Council has been after him for millions of years - as has Cybertron’s equivalent of Interpol. There haven’t been enough actual sightings of him to figure out where it is he refuels or who he works for (if he works for anyone). So Cyclonus just floats around and does what he has to to keep Galvatron and Scourge alive.

Enter a blue and white mech, a minibot  that makes Cyclonus want to - well, he doesn’t really know. Stop his unending mission to keep his oldest friend and lord alive? Abandon his rules? Not particularly. But he keeps showing up, first at that one robbery of Cybertron’s national bank, then as a cleaning bot when he stole an outrageously expensive painting, then as one of the mechs who see Cyclonus clean the slums of Kaon, then as one of the travelers on the spaceship he held hostage to barter a good sum of money from a politician nobody liked.

Whom the fuck? This is a minibot who definitely should not be showing up as many places as he is. Admittedly, Cyclonus has been seeing him on and off for a good couple million years, but he’s an old design. Has he been in Cyclonus’ vicinity this whole time?

Then comes their meeting - official meeting, with an introduction. Hot shot cop Rodimus Prime has finally caught the famous outlaw. He sets Cyclonus in a cell and stands off to the side to make a couple calls. Cyclonus is originally indifferent but the white and blue minibot is in the cell with him. Cyclonus is dying, just a bit. But the minibot lights up when he sees Cyclonus and bounces as close to him as his shackles allow.

“I’m Tailgate! Last time I saw you, you were helping rebuild Velocitron’s titan!” Is what he says and, despite hot shot cop Rodimus Prime’s continued pretense, what can Cyclonus do but introduce himself in kind? So they talk, and by that I mean Tailgate talks and Cyclonus listens with a mixture of confusion and utter horror at some of the stuff Tailgate says. The reason Tailgate is around so much? He has bad luck and bad taste in mechs. The people he hangs out with are the very same people Galvatron and Scourge’s captors want dead. 

Tailgate, after centuries of being abused by the Senate (“The would perform empurata on people who went against them so I never dared try - I don’t want to thank Primus for a revolution that killed millions, but… anyway, we’re free now.”), was a philanthropist of sorts. He might not have much money, but he was always down to travel somewhere for an outreach or goodwill mission, or maybe just to help other civilizations rebuild after natural disasters or to teach people to read and write. This has lead to many uncomfortable situations for him.

That aft backwards politician Cyclonus was sent to murder? Tailgate was one of his guards. The bounty hunter Cyclonus had to go ten rounds with in order to obtain some round trinket? Tailgate had saved his life and was cashing in a favor at the time. The reason he was in the cell? His friend, Nutjob (”That’s not his name, but he calls me shorty.”), had gotten into trouble with the law (”He’s always in trouble! Poor thing doesn’t know how to be a descent person like the rest of us. He’s really cute though.”) and Tailgate was just a case of wrong place wrong time.

It was intriguing.

Scourge’s and Galvatron’s captors had never said anything about companions, so Cyclonus breaks Tailgate and Nutjob (“I’m Whirl and if you think I can’t beat the crap out of you because you’ve got a big fancy sword, you’re mistaken.”) out of jail and takes them with him. Hot shot cop Rodimus Prime watches them go - he doesn’t try to stop them. Cyclonus is careful never to mention Tailgate and Whirl, paranoid for forever and a day. They grow closer during all the lawbreaking Cyclonus has to do and - and it’s nice.

Yes, they break his rules (“Haven’t you listened to a thing Shorty has said?! I’m made for violence! How can I not kill everyone here??”). Yes, they eat him out of spaceship and storage (“I’m sorry, Cyclonus, but no sane minibot can eat this little fuel and not go into permanent stasis-lock? How are you not dead? Do you have special internals? Are you undead?”). But it was nice to have them with him after his millions of years of loneliness.

And, in time, they become a sort of home. Somewhere safe to end the day. A pair of bots who want his time just to have it, to talk and relax, not to go out and pillage and destroy. They helped him win out against his fury and in turn he put his attention to helping them with what they needed. They made him a person again and he, because what else was he good at, made himself a wall against their fears and insecurities and self deprecation. They share their scars and help each other learn to move on, to learn from them, to become better people despite the trauma they’ve all been through.

And, when the time came to rescue Scourge and Galvatron, they were a big help. Whirl was just the kind of distraction Cyclonus and Tailgate needed to break in (“Come on you little freaks, it’s time to fucking party!”). While he exploded the front of the building, Tailgate hacked into the system (“I just have to plug in right into this terminal and… ooh! It’s so nice and organized! I used to have a friend who’d feel just like this during interface.”). He’d learned a lot through his many, many run-ins with Cyclonus and his travels and had picked up a few tricks. What he didn’t know, he generally knew how to bullshit.

Once they’d located Galvatron and Scourage, Cyclonus went on alone. Whirl pulled back, attacked a different part of the building, Tailgate was busy sending self destruct codes to every and any computer linked up to the system, and Cyclonus tore down whatever got in his way. And even now, Cyclonus doesn’t give up on his rules.

In the end, Galvatron hadn’t survived. He was hotheaded, uncontrollable, uncontainable (“You’re not so much a bodyguard as the mech who has to keep me in line. I’m going to try to murder the world. You’re going to have to stop me.”) . He’d tried to escape and they’d put him down as a result. Cyclonus could recognize, through the shock and the pain, that Galvatron had died like a warrior - fighting for freedom. But Scourge… Scourge had… his best friend…

(“I bid you stand in the glow of my spark so that you may feel the heat of my words and know them to be true. I invite you to receive my light and in so doing become my amica endura - from now until forever. Cyclonus, for your loyalty, your laughter, and your soul. It was here that Cyclonus lost the carefully crafted control he’d worked so hard on. It was here that his rules lost meaning. It was here that he tore apart the entire building, it was here that he murdered every single person inside it, it was here that he fought and fought and fought until there was no one left to fight, until it was just Whirl carrying him to the ship (“You’re heavy, Little One. See, I can call you that too! Now, wake up and tell me off!”), just Tailgate standing watch (“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”), just Cyclonus’ memories looping through his mind (“Promise me no harm comes to them. Promise me they will be safe and well-fed. Promise me that, and I will do whatever you ask.”).

Hot shot cop Rodimus makes a reappearance, aboard the bulkiest ship Cyclonus has ever seen (“The Lost Light is a little beaten up, but she’s got quantum engines and the best damn crew an ex cop can ask for.”). He was making a safe haven, he said, for the wronged people society would never protect. For the lost. For the ones with nothing left. 

Tailgate is the one who said they would join (“You won’t regret taking us on, I promise.”) and Whirl is the one to ward off those who tried to pry (“I’ve got titty guns! Do you really think going up against me is a good idea? I’m unvincible!”). Cyclonus is the one who relearned his rules, born from love and acceptance instead of hate and fear.

Jack Frost (two games): Came from Collingwood as a virtual replacement for retired fullback Daniel Merrett. After missing the opening round through suspension, Frost struggled in his two appearances and was left out in favour of younger players. Still has a big role to play once he regains form.

Picks: The Port Adelaide first-rounder acquired as part of a convoluted deal that saw Pearce Hanley go to Gold Coast might not be as good as the Lions first hoped. With the Power surging, the pick might now be in the 10-14 range. The Lions also have a third-rounder from Collingwood. – Michael Whiting   

Caleb Marchbank (six games): Is vindicating the Blues’ efforts in luring him from GWS, winning a Rising Star nomination for round six. Key defender who reads the game well, excels in intercept possessions and wins plenty of the ball.

Rhys Palmer (one): Broke into the senior team to play in the round three victory against Essendon in wet conditions at the MCG. Knee injury set him back briefly but has performed well at VFL level.

Jarrod Pickett (five): Speedy forward who made his AFL debut against Richmond in round one and showed glimpses of his considerable talent before being dumped in round six. Oozes class and ready to have an impact.

Billie Smedts (three): Played the first two matches, then dropped to the VFL before returning strongly against the Swans last Saturday. Works hard off the ball and tackles hard, but can improve certain parts of his game, particularly disposal and decision-making. – Howard Kotton

Lynden Dunn (one game): The former Melbourne vice-captain was overlooked for senior selection until key defender Ben Reid was rested at the weekend against Geelong, but the almost 30-year-old capitalised on his opportunity by keeping Cats monster Tom Hawkins to just one goal.

Will Hoskin-Elliott (six): The versatile ex-Giant has been a terrific inclusion, averaging almost 19 touches and tallying 8.2 in a variety of roles: wing, half-back and half-forward. A lovely kick, he slotted the winning goal against the Swans in round two. 

Chris Mayne (three): The former Freo star forward has made a sluggish start to his four-year contract with the Pies, producing underwhelming performances in the opening three rounds before being dropped to the VFL. 

Daniel Wells (two): The ex-Kangaroos free agent was slow to gain fitness in the pre-season and then suffered a lingering calf injury, but in the past fortnight he has shown he could help transform the team with his run and class. – Ben Collins

Picks: The Pies have a round-three and round-four pick from the Brisbane Lions.

James Stewart (zero games): The key forward has not yet broken into Essendon’s senior side despite some promising performances at VFL level.

Josh Green (four): Green started the season well in round one before a minor hamstring ruled him out for two weeks. The former Brisbane Lion returned immediately when fit and was excellent on Anzac Day with three goals. – Callum Twomey

Joel Hamling (six games) Hung out to dry on Josh Kennedy in the Western Derby but the ex-Dogs premiership backman has been a dependable addition, particularly against his former side when he blanketed Travis Cloke and the Dockers kick-started their season.

Bradley Hill (six) Many wondered how the speedy wingman would perform coming from Hawthorn’s powerhouse era but Hill stood up when the going was toughest against Port in round two and is averaging career-best disposals (22.5).

Cam McCarthy (six) A shining light so far, winning over fans with his elite workrate and passion. The ex-Giant endeared himself with the game-winning toe poke against Melbourne and was the only Freo forward who looked dangerous against the Eagles with all three of the Dockers’ goals to half-time.

Shane Kersten (six) It wasn’t smooth sailing early, with Kersten under the pump after a nervous and fumbly debut against old club Geelong in round one, but the 24-year-old has lifted since. Snapped the match-winner against North and starting to hit the scoreboard with six goals in the past four weeks. – Travis King

Picks: The Dockers have a fourth-rounder from the Suns.

Aaron Black (two games): Had a promising start to the pre-season games but didn’t get a call up to the AFL side until round five, where he kicked two goals and had 21 touches against St Kilda. Was quieter in the loss to Collingwood, but wasn’t alone. 

Zach Tuohy (six): Is going very well in a role off half-back. Has played every game since crossing from Carlton and averaging over 26 disposals.

Picks: The Cats have a round-two selection for this season they traded in from Carlton, which should land somewhere in the early 20s. – Jennifer Phelan.

Michael Barlow (six games): Has proved an invaluable delisted free agent acquisition from Fremantle, playing a crucial hybrid role between half-forward and midfield. Averaging 25 touches a game.

Pearce Hanley (one): After a great pre-season, the former Brisbane Lion has had a frustrating run. Went back to Ireland to spend the final days with his terminally-ill younger brother and then suffered a heel injury in his first game back in the NEAFL. Not expected to be available until round 10.

Jarryd Lyons (six): Lyons has been a consistent performer since coming from Adelaide. Missed time during the pre-season with an Achilles niggle, and, after a quiet opening fortnight, has been strong in his midfield role.

Jarrod Witts (six): A success story so far. Witts has locked down the No.1 ruck role and been a big influence when the Suns have played well.

Picks: The Suns have three second-round picks coming their way via Hawthorn, Fremantle and Richmond. If current form holds for the rest of the season, those picks should land around 20, 25 and 30 respectively. – Michael Whiting

Brett Deledio (zero games): The former Tiger hasn’t been seen after yet another calf injury, and perhaps more worrying, is the fact that the Giants can’t or won’t put a date on when he’ll be ready to play.

Picks: The Giants have second-round picks from Collingwood and St Kilda to use this year, but the way it looks at the moment with the Cats third on the ladder and the Saints just outside the eight, neither will get them a spot inside the top 25. – Adam Curley

Ricky Henderson (four games): The unrestricted free agent from Adelaide played the first four games of the year across half-back and the wing. Went OK but is now back in the VFL.

Tom Mitchell (six):  Ball-magnet Mitchell leads the AFL with 206 disposals through six games and would be miles ahead in the Hawk best and fairest. Absolutely worth sending Hawthorn’s first 2016 draft pick, No.14 overall, to Sydney for. 

Jaeger O’Meara (three): Missed two games because of a bruised knee but has averaged 22 disposals a game in the four he has played. Has showed flashes of brilliance, but still finding his way back after missing two seasons.

Tyrone Vickery (three): Three games and one goal for the former Tiger big man, who is the poster boy for Hawthorn’s poor start to the season. Is finding some form at VFL level and will play AFL again soon.

Picks: The Hawks traded their first two picks at this year’s draft to help secure O’Meara and might have to swallow hard if they finish near the bottom this year and the boom recruit fails to fire. Their first pick in the draft is the Giants’ second-rounder, which will fall over 30. – Ashley Browne

Jordan Lewis (three games): The four-time premiership Hawk was suspended for three matches for striking Carlton’s Patrick Cripps in round two. The Demons lost the next three games as a result, but he is back playing now and offering the on-field leadership the club missed in his absence.

Michael Hibberd (two): The former Bomber was hampered by an Achilles injury in the latter part of the pre-season and missed the first month of the season. Returned against Richmond in round five to be the Demons’ best and will be a valuable acquisition.

Pat McKenna (zero): McKenna did not play a game in his two seasons at the Giants before he was traded to Melbourne along with an exchange of picks last year. McKenna will be sidelined for the next six weeks with a hamstring injury. – Ben Guthrie

Paul Ahern (zero games): The 20-year-old, a top-10 draft pick in 2014, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee twice last year – in February, then September – while still on Greater Western Sydney’s list. Highly unlikely to play before 2018, but plans to be in full training before the season ends.

Nathan Hrovat (six): Hrovat is averaging almost 20 disposals in a midfield role, but was dropped for round five before receiving a late reprieve when Shaun Higgins withdrew. The ex-Western Bulldog played what coach Brad Scott described as his best game for the club in Saturday night’s win over Gold Coast and has not missed a match.

Marley Williams (six): Williams joined the Roos from Collingwood, where he had a reputation as an underwhelming kick. But he is going at 81 per cent disposal efficiency with North and produced memorable and timely chasedowns in each of the past two rounds.

Picks: The Roos swapped 2017 third and fourth-round picks with the Bulldogs in the Hrovat deal, so will slide in each round, given its 1-5 start as the reigning premiers look headed for another finals assault. – Marc McGowan

Josh Caddy (six games): Numbers are down and hasn’t hit his straps as a midfielder playing large periods forwards, but is helping the club’s stars at stoppages in a selfless role.

Toby Nankervis (six): Arguably recruit of the year across the competition so far, leading the Tigers’ ruck division well with a rare balance of brute strength and mobility. 

Dion Prestia (six): Has looked sore at times and his performances have been up and down, averaging a five-year low of 21.3 possessions and kicking poorly in some games. 

Picks: The Tigers secured a first-round pick (Geelong) and third-round pick (GWS) in this year’s NAB AFL Draft. On current ladder positions, those picks would fall at No.16 and No.53 respectively. – Nathan Schmook

Nathan Brown (six games): Fortifying the defence was the Collingwood premiership player’s role and he has done that well, with his job on Geelong big man Tom Hawkins in round five particularly impressive.

Jack Steele (six): The former Giant is fifth in the competition for tackles per game and his 187cm frame adds size around the contest.

Koby Stevens (one): Food poisoning during the JLT Community Series set Stevens back but he impressed in his club debut against Hawthorn last week and will be especially important while David Armitage is sidelined after groin surgery.

Picks: St Kilda has Hawthorn’s first-round selection this year, which would be pick No.2 if the season ended today. The Saints also have North Melbourne’s fourth-round pick. – Dinny Navaratnam

Picks: The Swans traded up in last year’s draft to get picks nine, which turned into pick 11 because of earlier academy bids, and 19 (21), which they used to nab Oliver Florent (four games) and Will Hayward (five). The youngsters have been bright spots in a disastrous start to the season, with their speed and foot skills impressive, and both look to be fantastic long-term prospects in Sydney. – Adam Curley

Sam Mitchell (five games) Started with a bang, picking up 38 disposals on Eagles debut in round one, and has delivered the leadership and experienced head West Coast’s midfield badly needed. Was sorely missed against former club Hawthorn but returned in the derby and won game-high 10 clearances despite still struggling with a sore ankle.

Drew Petrie (one) Courageously played on with a broken hand suffered in the opening minutes of his emotional return to face North Melbourne in round one and kicked a late goal in one of the season’s highlights so far. Still on the comeback trail.

Nathan Vardy (six) Injury-plagued former Cat might be the latest Eagles big man to succumb to the club’s ruck curse, but soldiered on in the derby despite hurting his elbow early. Lowered his colours to Ben McEvoy against Hawthorn but he is a competitor and has adapted impressively to the ruck, averaging 20 hit-outs. – Travis King

Travis Cloke (four games): The former Magpie was having a serviceable first season at Whitten Oval, until he sustained broken ribs in the round four win over North Melbourne. Before injury struck, the 30-year-old had slotted five goals and averaged nearly five marks per game. He also logged handy minutes in the ruck.

Picks: In a deal that saw the Dogs trade midfielder Nathan Hrovat to North Melbourne last year, the clubs swapped third and fourth round selections in this year’s NAB AFL Draft. As it stands now those picks would be No.40 and No.58. The Dogs also have a fifth-rounder from St Kilda. – Ryan Davidson
