Short Story - Under the Mistletoe with MC (Unused Intro)

Characters: MC, the demon brothers, and the side characters Word Count: ~1.1k Warnings: None, just the usual brothers and co. silliness Notes: This was the original intro for the "Under the Mistletoe with MC" snippet I wrote back in 2021. Initially, I planned to make that snippet into a series of stories during December leading up to Christmas, with each story being one character (minus Luke) that MC chose to kiss under the mistletoe. Unfortunately, I bit off more than I could chew, haha. Not having enough time to write so many stories, I had to settle with a snippet format, albeit longer than my usual ones, and write a different intro that I felt flowed better for it. I really like how the original intro turned out, though, and in my wave of nostalgia for the series, I decided to polish it a little and share it with everyone as my gift for this year. I hope you all enjoy it and have a wonderful holiday season! 😊💕

Mammon spit out his drink.  “Ya did what?!”

All eyes were on the small demon familiar, his pointed teeth visible as he snickered at everyone’s reactions from him interrupting their holiday festivities.  “You heard me,” Little D. No. 2 declared, his yellow irises twinkling brightly with glee under the candlelight from the living room’s chandeliers.  “I hung mistletoe somewhere in the House of Lamentation.”

“I heard what ya said,” Mammon remarked angrily, grabbing the round familiar to prevent him from fleeing, “but what I wanna know is why ya did it!”

“Well, you didn’t ask that, now did you?” Little D. No. 2 retorted.

“Keep talkin’ like that, pipsqueak, and you’ll be the new Fangol ball!”

“What’s the big deal?” Luke wondered aloud.  “Mistletoe is just a plant, right?”

“And both a parasitic and poisonous one from the human world at that,” Satan added.  “I’m surprised we don’t have any growing naturally in the Devildom.”

“What?!  Isn’t it dangerous to have it here then?!”

“Not to worry, Luke,” Solomon assured the angel.  “It’s only a parasite to trees and other plants, and it can only hurt someone if they ingest it.  Aside from that, it’s a nice decoration, especially during this time of year.”

“Ah, I remember seeing pictures of it before,” Simeon remarked.  “Even though it can grow in cooler weather, it still has vibrant green leaves and white berries.”

“Berries?” Beelzebub questioned, his mouth already watering.

“Beel, you did hear the part about it hurting you if you eat it, right?” Belphegor reminded his twin, suppressing a yawn while leaning onto him for support.

“I’ve got a strong stomach.  I can handle it.  So, where is it?”

“I hid it, big guy,” Little D. No. 2 told him.  “You gotta find it yourself!”

“What fun!” Diavolo exclaimed with a wide grin.  “It’s like a treasure hunt!”

“Hehehe, it’s a little more than that, Your Majesty!”

“Hm?  What do you mean?”

“There’s a tradition in the human world revolving around mistletoe, My Lord,” Barbatos explained.  “If you intend to find it, you’ll want to be with someone very special to you when you do.”

“That’s right!” Asmodeus chimed in cheerfully.  “Solomon taught me all about it last time he summoned me during the holidays, so I got to experience this fantastic tradition first-hand.”

“Yes, and so did everyone you came across at the party that day,” the sorcerer commented, recalling the event in his mind.

“Oh, so something exciting happens when you find a mistletoe with someone special?” Diavolo inquired.  “In that case, Lucifer, you should join Barbatos and me in searching for it.”

Lucifer shook his head, already appearing exhausted from the whole situation.  “I’ll pass.  I want nothing to do with this nonsense.”

The eldest brother’s demeanor gave Mammon an idea.  “You’re right, Lucifer!  This is all just nonsense!  Tell ya what,—”  He secured the demon familiar under his arm.  “—I’ll have this troublemaker tell me where the mistletoe is, and I’ll get rid of it right away.  Consider it an extra gift from the Great Mammon!”

Mammon glanced over at the human who’d been silently observing the conversation this whole time.  “Hey, MC, instead of starin’ off into space, ya oughta come help me out.  B-But only because this pipsqueak is more likely to tell you where the mistletoe is than if I asked him.”

“Wait, wait, wait,” Leviathan spoke up, “I see what you’re doing here, Mammon.  You’re planning to get MC under the mistletoe with you alone!  That’s not fair!”

“I-I don’t know what you’re talkin’ about!  Ya really think I wanna bring MC along with me just to follow some human tradition about k-kissin’ under the mistletoe?”

“Kissing?!” Diavolo and Luke shouted in unison, completely taken aback.  Their matching bewildered expressions made Barbatos quietly chuckle.

“Obviously you do, Mammon,” Satan remarked.  “You couldn’t be more obvious if you tried.”

“Yeah, and there’s no way we’re letting you get away with being under the mistletoe with MC!” Asmodeus declared.  “Besides, I’m sure they’d much rather find the mistletoe with me, wouldn’t you, MC?”

“What?!  No way!” Mammon argued, too distracted to notice Little D. No. 2 slipping out of his hold.  “They’re coming with me!”

“You’re all so noisy,” Belphegor noted.  “I’m sure MC would much rather go with someone calmer, like me.”

“MC, my nose is really good, so I can sniff out the mistletoe’s berries quickly,” Beelzebub explained.  “You want to try them, too, right?”

“You might be okay, Beel, but those berries are definitely poisonous to humans,” Satan pointed out.  “MC, why don’t you stick with me instead?”

“H-Hey, don’t leave me out of this!” Leviathan butted in.  “I mean, then again, maybe you wouldn’t want to be under the mistletoe with a yucky shut-in otaku like me, MC, but...please choose me anyway!”

“Why am I not surprised it’s turned out this way?” Lucifer muttered with a sigh.

“Perhaps because Mammon and the others always tend to act like this whenever MC is involved?” Simeon answered with a gentle laugh.

Everyone had certainly become rowdy, most of them bickering amongst themselves about who would end up under the mistletoe with MC.  As for the human in question?  They continued watching from the sidelines, unsure of how to remedy the situation.

“Hoo boy, it sure gets crazy with those guys, huh?” Little D. No. 2 said, floating over to MC’s side.  The human shot them an annoyed glance.  “H-Hey, don’t look at me like that!  I just wanted to add a little extra excitement to the day, that’s all.  And I thought I’d help you find an excuse to have a special moment with your special someone...”

The demon familiar snickered at MC’s shocked expression.  “What, you think I haven’t figured it out by now?  You should be thanking me for such a thoughtful Christmas gift!”  He glanced at the commotion nearby.  “Though, I guess it’s gotten a bit out of control, huh?  Ah, well, this is practically normal for these guys at this point.  More importantly...”

They moved in closer to the human to whisper, “I wanna know if my hunch was right:  Who do you want to be under the mistletoe with, MC?”

MC mulled over the question while gazing at the chaotic group in front of them.  They had someone in mind, but...where was he?  He was with everyone a few moments ago, but now he was nowhere in sight.  Suddenly, someone grabbed their hand and pulled them out of the room, leaving the startled demon familiar and the preoccupied group of boys behind.  This warmth...  They’d recognize it anywhere.

Obey Me! Shall we date? Is a mobile otome game and anime were the MC (you, the player) gets chosen to be a human exchange student for RAD (Royal Academy of Diavolo) where you are taken down to the Devildom (hell) but you end up stuck as a small pink sheep due to not being used to the demon realm.

You were brought to the demon realm to be a human representative of the human world, to help make peace between worlds, being the celestial realm, human world, and Devildom.

You are introduced to the character Diavolo, the Prince of Devildom and heir to the throne, the Avatar of Pride, Lucifer, is introduced as Diavolo’s right hand man.

Lucifer puts you in the care of his younger brother and Second oldest, Avatar of Greed, Mammon, Lucifer giving you a D.D.D (Diavolo’s Devildom Device) which is the human world equivalent to a regular cell phone.

You are told to call Mammon to inform him of his role as your guide, where he very happily says “no” and only agrees once Lucifer starts counting down from 3, Mammon being scared of his brother Lucifer.

You are made to live in the HoL (House of Lamentation) with the 7 deadly sins/Avatars.

Lucifer is obviously prideful and the strictest of his brothers, being the leader of the HoL. He doesn’t admit he is in the wrong or take anything from anyone to keep his pride. He is the owner of the three headed dog Cerberus after managing to tame him. His banner animal is a Peacock

Mammon is a greedy demon who will steal and get himself in trouble just to fill his desires for riches and valuables, he is a tsundere that refuses to admit he cares for MC, calling himself their “First man.” His banner animal is a crow.

Leviathan is a self deprecating shut-in otaku, refusing to listen to “normies” including MC. He adores the character Ruri-Chan, having many anime and game figures around his room. He had a pet snake named Henry 1.0 named after a character from his favorite book series, Tale of The 7 Lords, before he lost the snake, replacing it with a fish he named Henry 2.0. He is the admirable of hells navy and can summon Lotan. His banner animal is a snake.

Satan is the book worm 4th born who loves cats and reading, he hates Lucifer and hates when people mistake him for Lucifer and when they’re compared. Satan was born after Lucifer tore off his own wings out of wrath against god for the death of Lilith, leading to only two pairs of wings to grow back while the last pair formed Satan, made from Lucifer’s wrath and hatred, even having some of Lucifer’s memories from the celestial war. His banner animal is a unicorn. (I giggle at this)

Asmodeus is the narcissistic and sexual brother, always bragging about his looks and how he’s the prettiest person to exist, saying he looks better than someone after complimenting them. It is revealed that he is insecure about being a demon, missing his beautiful white wings and angelic aura, now finding disgust in his demon form. In later seasons he admits he loves MC as much as himself. His banner animal is a scorpion.

Beelzebub is the always hungry older twin, he is constantly raiding the kitchen and anywhere for food, never being able to satiate his hunger. (Personally) he is one of the nicest and caring brothers, talking a lot about how he misses his brother who is said to be in the human world, when he’s actually locked in the attic by Lucifer for disobeying Diavolo. He regrets the death of Lilith, after he tried to save Belphegor but Lilith getting killed in the process, blaming himself for it. His banner animal is a fly.

Belphegor is the cat napping younger twin, constantly sleeping and napping, he was locked in the attic by Lucifer for disobeying Diavolo, hating the humans and blaming humans for Lilith death, he tries to convince MC that he is a human like us that was trapped by the demons but we find out that’s a lie and he’s actually a demon, he gets us to help him out by making pacts with his brothers, he thanks us by asking to give us a hug, where he strangles us to death before we are brought back to life. His banner animal is a cow. (I accidentally got lesson 16 spoiled to me)

We are told to make pacts with the brothers by Belphie to get him out.

We make a pact in order with:

Mammon

Leviathan

Beelzebub

Asmodeus

Satan

And then Lucifer.

Lucifer is the most difficult for us to get, him refusing to make one with us due to thinking we have an ulterior motive (we do) but give a different excuse to why we want a pact, saying we want to prove our worth to him as the human exchange student.

Mammon is one you make the quickest. Ofc.

The Royals.

The royals consist of Lord Diavolo and Barbatos.

Diavolo is the demon prince and heir to the throne of Devildom, Diavolo is serious when he needs to but is a very nice and overall lighthearted character. He does not have a good relationship with his father, the current king of Devildom but is in a deep sleep, his son Diavolo taking his role while still Prince. His mother died while giving birth to him, and he thinks it’s possibly why his father was so strict and hard in him, blaming Diavolo for his mothers death.

Barbatos is the royal Butler to Diavolo, being a neat and orderly character, he is known as a the Greatest Pastry Chef, and being very good with tea and being a tea expert, he played a big role in Diavolo’s life, even as a child. Barbatos became Diavolo’s butler after a child Diavolo lured Barbatos into the castle with rare tea leaves, Diavolo saying barbatos couldn’t leave until he agreed to be his butler, Barbatos later said he thought this interaction was adorable. No one knows when Barbatos was born, or how long he’s been around, but he’s been around before the world and Devildom itself. Barbatos would not hesitate to destroy a building over a rat.

The Angels

The angels consist of Simeon and Luke.

Simeon is a very polite and caring Archangel , he is here for the exchange program as a representative for the celestial realm, he doesn’t hate anyone or anything. He is a writer going under the Pen Name Christopher Peugeot. He is a great cook and a mentor for Luke alongside Barbatos.

Luke a young Angel, about 10 in human years, he is the youngest of the group (except for MC he’s been around for centuries maturity wise tho he’s young) he doesn’t like demons especially Lucifer, but really likes Barbatos, being taught by him in baking and being mentored by him. Hes constantly being made fun of by the demon brothers, specifically Lucifer, and Mammon, having the nicknames, “Chihuahua”, “Fido”, and “Dog” making him very irritated whenever he’s called them.

The Sorcerer

There’s only one sorcerer, being Solomon.

Solomon is a representative of the human world, he’s a very powerful sorcerer, having 72 pacts with demons, including Barbatos. Barbatos holds a grudge throughout Obey Me! Nightbringer, which the sorcerer doesn’t even remember why, it is later revealed that Barbatos was upset he was placed 8th on Solomon’s pact list, being petty about it and hating Solomon (Drama queen Barbie). Despite Solomon being a skilled sorcerer and great with potions and mixing ingredients, this does not translate in his cooking abilities, often making his food a biohazard for anyone to consume and a danger for botulism, but he does not realize and thinks his food is fine.

The Human

You are the human, the MC, that little sheep.

You were brought to Devildom as the second human exchange student for the program, your avatar was made a sheep and the game uses they/them pronouns to make the game as inclusive to any player. You are the Main Character.

The timing couldn't have been worse for Urogi, but it was more planned than he expected. Urogi had been summoned to the infinity castle by Nakimes biwa. He knew his arrival here alone could have been dangerous. "Am i in trouble?" was the first thing on his mind, but he was wrong, very far off from what he was thinking.

Urogi wasn't expecting to be teleported by Nakime's biwa at Muzan's bedroom door with the door completely open. Your eyes were shut tight and completely lost in the pleasure from Muzan's tounge pleasuring your clit. Urogi didn't say a word just yet. His lips curled into a smirk and wanted to take in the veiw of you moaning uncontrollably and your hips grinding your wet pussy on Muzan's lips.

"You summoned me, my Lord?" Urogi stood straight and tried to hide his smirk from the site. "L-lord Muzan! You didn't tell me he'd arrive like this!" Your voice quivered, and you start to lift your hips to get off Muzan's face. Hearing your words made Urogi raise his eyebrow in curiosity, this visit was planned for just him, and seeing a pretty demon similar to him made his visit more interesting.

"Fine. Get off, I'm feeling nice today," Muzan said and licked your juices off her lips. You quickly jumped to the corner of the bed, tucked your claws and feet in, and then used your wings to hide your exposed body from Urogi, including your face. "Why so shy all of a sudden? Your body and face are so beautiful." Muzan chuckles and sat up to reach over and touch your soft feather.

"Do you know why I summoned you?" Muzan asked as she turned her head towards Urogi. "I do not. I'm happy I didn't know since I'm surprised with this delightful sight," Urogi said and sticks his tongue out. Your eyes peep from your wings, and you look at his tounge, "joy" was written on it, but you remained silent to hear their conversation.

Urogi's eyes shifted to look at you and then give you a flirtatious wink. He chuckled softly when he saw you hide your face again and then went back to hear Muzan's words. "It's mating season, yes? And you haven't found a mate, so I can tell," Muzan said.

"That's correct.. Lord Muzan" Urogi's smile started to form into a frown. It's true, he didn't have a mate, and it was driving him crazy since it was also mating season, but the last thing he needed was to be called out for it. Although Urogi is part bird, he's still a demon, and a demon can sense when another is in heat.

"I have a generous offer for you, Urogi," Muzan said and got off the bed. "An offer? Me!? How exciting, What is this offer, my Lord?" Urogi said, practically dying to know yet already having an idea what it is. "Lucky for you, y/n doesn't have a mate," Muzan said only for Urogi to he more confused. "I don't follow. Aren't you y/n's mate?" Urogi asked.

"I suppose. However, I believe a demon more like y/n is needed during this time. Wouldn't you say Urogi?" Muzan asked. Urogi gulps, "i agree, my lord," he said and let's his eyes wonder off back to you to see you're still hiding yourself. "Forgive me for speaking out of turn, but i do not think y/n wants me as her mate," Urogi said and even sounding bummed out.

"Y/n is a shy demon. Even when I first had my time with her, it took some patients," Muzan said and walked over to the small couch in the bedroom and took a seat. "Make sure to satisfy y/n correctly. I will not tolerate any failure" Muzan said and bites her lip, getting eager to see you get fucked by a demon of your kind. "You bet I won't, my Lord," Urogi laughed and shut the door behind him so no one could walk in on the fun and ruin it.

"Lord Muzan... you aren't going to join?" You asked softly with your brows rasied in worry. Muzan begins to lay on the couch sideways and rest her cheek on her hand. "I will not. I'm simply here to observe and enjoy seeing how mating works with two demons of the same kind," Muzan said with a smirk on her face.

Urogi is known to be very wild and straight to the point with almost anything. He knew that this time he had to take it slow to come at you with the right approach. "Can I sit next to you?" Urogi asked, still standing at the door. Your wings lowered down enough to look at Urogi. He was much calmer and and even turning his cock smirk into a welcoming one.

"Yes, of course," you said and watched Urogi jump from doorway and onto the bed next to you. Your eyes widened when the entire bed jumped, and you did your best to stay still so you wouldn't fall off. "Don't look so frightened. Walking with feet like this is hard. You must know that!" Urogi laughed and crossed his legs and had his claws in his lap.

Urogi's head tilted to the side as his pretty golden eyes met yours and tried to get a better look at your face. You felt more comfortable with Urogi and decided to lower your wings away from your face. "Wow. You are beautiful, aren't you?" Urogi grins, and his face almost becomes flushed from your beautiful. "Thank you, you're very handsome," you said with a smile.

"Of course i am." Urogi winks, which made Muzan roll his eyes. "I have never seen a bird demon like me before!" Urogi said and giggled in excitement. You raised your eye brow in confusion and let out a chuckle. "Bird demon? I am called a harpy demon. Usually, harpy's are female, but this is the first time I'm meeting a male harpy such as yourself." You said and watched as Urogi's pupils shrink in surprise.

"That's what we are!? No wonder my body is half human-like and half bird!" Urogi said with excitement but noticed right away at your small jump when he rasied his voice. Urogi cleared his throat and laughed. "I'm sorry. I always get excited and forget that not a lot of demons aren't as loud and energetic as me." Urogi said with a bright smile.

You felt completely comfortable with Urogi at this moment, especially from seeing his sweet smile and genuinely doing his best to make a good first impression to mate with you. "You're so sweet, Urogi," your wings start to move away from your body and then tucked back behind your back. "I like you, Urogi," you felt your face becoming hot after telling him that and hinting that you're ready to mate with him.

"I like you too," Urogi said and moved his claws from his lap and gently touched your claws as well. You let out a sensual sigh and held Urogi's claws back. Having Urogi this close your examing how much bigger his claws are compared to yours and how much bigger his body is compared to you.

Your thighs rubbed together in heat, wanting Urogi to take you so roughly but the words couldn't come out, you were too shy to admit it but all you could do is play with his claws just a little more and then laying down on your back. This World Summons Too Many Heroes!!

This World Summons Too Many Heroes!! is a tabletop rpg about regular people being pulled into a fantasy world to become heroes, demon lords, goblins, talking swords, or any kind of adventurer you could think of! Players go on an isekai adventure in the Kingdoms of Ceria, where summoning scrolls have been scattered across the countryside and people are recklessly using them to steal people from other worlds and bring them into this one with new powers gifted to them by a goddess of reincarnation.

This is my most popular game with nearly 1900 downloads, and I’ve had a ton of fun both running and playing it. Players pick an archetype that represents their character’s isekai trope (Hero, Demon Lord, Reincarnated as an X, etc.) and then choose a class under that archetype to decide their powers. Each player character also gets a goddess’s gift, which comes in the form of a game breaking ability. Some of the combinations get pretty silly, but you’ll be coming up against enemies with silly game breaking abilities of their own.

Stats are broken down into Might, Mastery, and Mischief, and how you spec your character decides how many d6s you will be rolling for each skill. SP lets you use your class abilities freely, and the HP/SP drop system from enemies means that as long as you keep taking down opponents, you can keep recharging and fighting. Materia drops let you enchant your weapons with new effects, making you even more powerful.

The first game expansion, This World Summons Too Many Heroes: Goddesses, introduces new divine powers and demigods into the setting. Right now it’s available in a bundle with pre-orders for the next two expansions (Dungeon Tower and Season Of The Sage) which will be releasing later in 2023.

isekai shikkaku / no longer allowed in another world: the manga is legitimately fun. a depressed writer commits suicide with his lover and wakes up in another world with one goal: to find a perfect place to die. the studio behind isekai ojisan, AtelierPontdarc, is doing this one; i didn't like isekai ojisan but that might be a selling point to those who did!

suicide squad isekai: it's the suicide squad from DC and they're in an isekai. not much to say about this one. lots of heavy hitters on the design side of this one, with Wit Studio (spy x family, vivy) as well as writers Eiji Umihara (vivy) and Tappei Nagatsuki (original creator of re:zero, vivy) attached to it. i'll probably watch it even though i disagree with the choice to have mori calliope do the ending theme

maougun saikyou no majutsushi wa ningen datta / the strongest magician in the demon lord's army was a human: another one that's essentially explained by its title. i wouldn't consider this one bad based on the manga per se, but i don't think i'm inclined to watch the anime based on it since i thought the manga was fine, i guess. in fact, i'd probably recommend against it given how Studio A-CAT fucked up the kenja no deshi wo nanoru kenja adaptation. yeah i'm still mad about that!

Felt like rating more anime I've watched recently or am currently watching.

Skip and Loafer

Summary: Mitsumi, a girl growing up in the country, moves to Tokyo to attend a prestigious high school. Her first day, she runs into Sousuke, the most popular guy in school, and they become friends.

Sounds like fairly standard high school romance anime, which I usually am not particularly interested in, but the writing in this one is far better than most. The characters act like real people with complicated, messy emotions that they are still learning to deal with. Also notably, Mitsumi doesn't immediately fall head over heels for Sousuke, nor does he immediately fall for her. Even by the end of the season, they're just good friends, though it's clear feelings are developing on both sides. The focus of the show is less on the romance and more on the characters themselves. Mitsumi's ambition mixed with uncertainty and anxiety in a new environment, Sousuke's past weighing him down and his popularity affecting his interactions with people, Mika's realization of her own jealous and petty nature and her attempts to break free from it, Makoto and Yuzuki overcoming their preconceptions about each other.

But even without all of that, I still very much like the show for something major it did: it included a trans character and treated her with respect. I've talked about this before, but the inclusion of Nao as a character is so well done. She's never once the butt of a joke, or made out to be creepy or bad. Mitsumi lives with Nao in Tokyo, and Nao's a loving and caring aunt who offers advice and support to Mitsumi whenever she needs it. Most animes that include trans characters either make them "guy in a dress" jokes or demonize them as unstable or dangerous (even some of my favorite shows are guilty of this). But Skip and Loafer puts Nao into the position of a caring mentor figure (not just to Mitsumi, but to Mika too) as well as a competent and successful stylist. And even beyond that, the show doesn't make a big deal out of her being trans. Rather than Nao being "the trans character", she is just a character who happens to be trans. I hope this is the beginning of a trend of anime treating trans people better. 8/10.

The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic

Summary: Usato and his two classmates Inukami and Ryusen are summoned to another world on their way home from school. In typical isekai fashion, they were summoned to defeat the Demon Lord, and are granted magical powers. However, once the large and imposing Rose, leader of the kingdom's team of healers, learns that Usato has an affinity for healing magic, she grabs him and hauls him over to the healer team's base for intensive training.

I love the general premise of how Rose teaches Usato to use healing magic. Rather than allow him to become a physically weak caster, she puts him through hellish physical training and forces him to use his healing magic to instantly recover so that he can train more, pushing him harder and harder until he learns to constantly cast healing magic on himself to reinforce his body, allowing him to perform inhuman feats of strength and endurance. I also love that pretty much everyone else in the world thinks Rose is completely insane for using healing magic this way and slowly goes from pitying Usato to wondering about his sanity as he progresses in his training.

The show generally has a very light tone, poking fun at some isekai tropes, but there is a heavy undertone about the horrors of war. There's a reason Rose is training Usato so hard. And when the time comes for Usato to step onto the battlefield as a member of the Rescue Team, the show almost completely drops the light tone, only bringing it fully back after the battle ends.

I thoroughly enjoyed every episode, and I like all of the characters a lot. I am a little worried about the potential harem forming, with both Inukami and Felm clearly crushing on Usato, but I'm hoping it's just a love triangle and doesn't develop into a full blown harem. I have so little patience for those these days. 8/10, if the show doesn't continue I will absolutely have to read the manga.

Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don't Believe in Humanity Will Save the World

Summary: Four adventurers, Nick, Tiana, Zem, and Curran, have all been betrayed by people they trusted completely and have become disillusioned with the world. They happen to meet at a tavern and drown their sorrows together. The following morning, they decide to form an adventuring party, promising to never trust each other and to never interfere with each others' personal lives.

What I love most about this show is that, of course, they all immediately begin trusting each other and become a found family. They constantly talk about distrust, but their actions say otherwise. I love their interactions so much, I could watch entire episodes of them bantering.

I think it's also interesting the way the show handles their trauma. All four of them have unhealthy coping mechanisms that cost a lot of money: Nick has become an idol otaku, blowing all his money on merch. Tiana is addicted to gambling and, despite being quite good at it, still gambles too much and always loses money in the end. Zem spends almost every night drinking at a hostess club. And Curran is obsessed with food, using all her money to eat at fancy restaurants. All four of their addictions are clearly coping mechanisms filling the holes their betrayals left, and while these habits are unhealthy for all of them, the habits also keep them from falling into despair. They're both distractions from the group's pasts and goals to strive for: keep working, keep earning money, keep living, so they can keep enjoying their vices.

It's a found family show that focuses a lot on trust, trauma, and the complex lives everyone has. Even antagonist characters get backstories that explain (but don't excuse) their actions. And it balances the heavy subject matter very well with humor, so the show never feels like a downer. 8/10.

Kaiju No. 8

Summary: In a world where monstrous kaiju regularly attack civilization, Kafka Hibino works as part of the cleanup crew that handles the aftermath of kaiju attacks. He once aspired to join the Kaiju Defense Force, but gave up after failing the exam repeatedly. He meets Reno Ichikawa, a young man who plans to enlist and who encourages Kafka to take another try at the exam. Before that happens, however, they are caught in a kaiju attack and end up in the hospital. While there, Kafka is infected by a small kaiju, and is transformed into a new type of kaiju.

Despite having a similar premise of kaiju attacking humanity, Pacific Rim is not a good comparison for the show. The Kaiju Defense Force doesn't use giant robots, they use special combat suits created from materials harvested from kaiju corpses. The kaiju themselves have specific types (seven known types, leading Kafka to be designated as a new eighth type, hence the name of the show) with a range of sizes (though all still much larger than humans).

This show is fantastic. The humor, the action, the animation, it's all top quality. It's also a wild ride and I have absolutely no idea where it's going, to be honest. It's on episode 7 right now and they just keep throwing curve balls left and right. I think my favorite aspect is that, when not in his kaiju form, Kafka is just a regular dude surrounded by typical OP anime characters. Despite weeks of training, he is unable to perform the superhuman feats the rest of the Defense Force trainees can. Initially, he can't even use the power suit properly, which makes him unable to use most of the anti-kaiju weapons because they're too heavy. That, combined with his cheerful personality, makes Kafka a relatable and endearing main character.

Also, it's nice to have a main character in his 30s, even if it's physically painful for me to hear other characters call him old. Tentative 10/10, we'll see how the rest of the season holds up.

Tonari no Yokai-san

Summary: In an alternate reality where myths and legends are normal, everyday things, the small town of Fuchigamori is home to numerous supernatural beings living alongside humans.

This show has got some feels. It starts out as very heartwarming slice of life, focusing mostly on Buchio, a recently reborn nekomata, and Mutsumi, a young human girl who idolizes Jiro, the crow tengu who watches over the town. The stories are mostly separate, though they deal with some common themes from different perspectives.

As the show goes on, it starts hitting on heavy topics about love, loss, and family, the three major themes of the show. There are still heartwarming moments to be had, but they are outnumbered by the heavy emotional moments. To me, the main message of the show so far has been "Relationships of all kinds are painful, but the good ones are worth every moment of that pain."

I love Buchio, he's such a good character. He's trying his best, and he messes up, but he keeps trying; the lil' guy just needs so many hugs. And the exploration of Jiro as a character is fascinating to me. At first he seems like this calm, confident guy who always knows the right thing to say, always knows what to do, a steadfast guardian for the town. But in time we learn that he's a person like everyone else, suffering from fear, doubt, and loss just as much as anyone, and all he can do is try his best, just like Buchio.

Also there's at least one queer couple in the show, Wagen and Kazuhiko. The show refers to them as "partners" and doesn't elaborate further, but to me at least, it's pretty clear they're a couple.

The downside to the show for me is that it is a little slow. I love the characters and their interactions, but that is literally all the show has. It's 95% people sitting around talking and having emotional moments, so it can feel kinda dull at times. I would not recommend binging it, tbh; I'm watching it weekly as it updates on Crunchyroll, and I think that's probably the best way to watch it. 7/10.

A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics

Summary: A reverse isekai where young princess Sara da Odin and her faithful knight Livia de Udis teleport to modern day Japan to escape the rebellion that overthrew their kingdom and killed Sara's parents, the king and queen. Sara meets Sosuke Kaburaya, a private investigator, and convinces him to take her in off the street.

This show definitely does not start off with a bang. It very much gives off "weak story for the purpose of jokes and fanservice" vibes, and for several episodes, it looks like that's all it has to it. But episode 7 was a turning point where I realized how well they were actually writing the characters of Sara and Sosuke.

The show basically follows two stories. One is about Livia's attempts to make a living in this world, and is mostly just jokes and fanservice. The other is Sara and Sosuke, and this one focuses much more on their character growth and dynamic. I didn't even notice how their interactions smoothly changed over time from "Guy forced to take care of child from another world" to "father and daughter" until episode 7. The episode begins with Sosuke trying to figure out how to enroll Sara into school, something she expressed interest in previously. She has no citizenship, no form of ID, and no birth certificate with which to get said ID or citizenship, and she can't be enrolled in school without those. There's a scene where they calmly discuss options, and that was the first moment that I noticed their dynamic had changed. They don't throw blame around or get mad at each other, they just discuss options, realize they can't figure out a solution, and decide to set the issue aside for the day. Even when Sosuke comments that Sara's not good enough at acting to pretend to be his daughter, Sara doesn't get defensive; she agrees with him. She realizes Sosuke is trying his best to figure it out, and Sosuke genuinely wants to find a way for Sara to go to school.

They then spend the day on a case, following a guy around to see if he's cheating on his wife. It turns out he's just dropping a bit of spare money on horse races for fun, and Sosuke and Sara end up enjoying the day together instead. At the end of it, as they're walking back to the car, Sosuke stops and says "Hey, Sara. Do you want to be my daughter for real?" and Sara says yes.

That's the point that it hit me, that these two had already become a father-daughter duo, and I just hadn't realized it. Sosuke, a man who previously hated the idea of being responsible for the well-being of this random girl, casually suggests adopting her, and Sara, a proud princess who previously considered Sosuke just a useful peon, happily agrees.

To be honest, if the show was just about Sosuke and Sara's story, I would give it a 7/10. But so much of the show is devoted to the Livia story's jokes and fanservice, it's like they're afraid their audience would get bored of a serious plot. For that, I have to knock it down to 5/10.

Time is Fake || Obey Me Drabble/One-Shot

A/N: Nightbringer game gave me feelings.

Spoiler Warning: Discuss plot points up to Lesson 7 and 8 for Nightbringer. As well as other plot points from Seasons 1 and 2 of the original game. Overuse of the word "you" as it is in the Second Person POV. Gender-Neutral MC and presumed platonic.

You hoped whatever entity that sent you back in time would show up soon because you really wanted to hit that thing so hard that it gets anchored in the time stream. Being sent all the way back to when the Celestial War ended wasn’t exactly on your to-do list. Starting over with almost everyone was one thing, but this was on a whole other level.

The brothers had told you that Satan was born and mostly an angry ball of energy that took it out on everyone and everything. You knew that Lucifer had recently made some sort of deal with Diavolo that allowed the dying Liltih to be reborn as a human. Seeing these events happen in real time was very surreal. The demons being in their demon forms the entire time added to the uneasy feeling.

Solomon had been an unexpected rock in all of this as he was your only anchor to what you knew as the present. Though all this new information just got you even more confused than ever.

Just how old is everyone exactly? How did Levi know about Otakus and Isekais but not about The Seven Lords series that he almost killed you for knowing a lot more than he thought? Should your D.D.D. be able to operate despite the fact that the specific model you had wouldn't be created until a millennia later? And did you accidentally influence Lucifer that he should literally freeze the credit card in the freezer?

Maybe the Devildom and Celestial Realm itself experience time in a way where experience both the past, the present, and the future at the same time, whilst its inhabitants moved through time more linearly. But you decided to try and avoid discussing events from the future at all. You're not sure what would happen if you did.

And now Lord Diavolo had realized that you were in fact human and decided to send you back to the human world. You attempted to at least try to explain yourself, but it all fell on deaf ears.

You were conflicted of course. The current state of the Human World was the least of your worries. At first, you were apprehensive about becoming their attendant. You worried about unintentionally changing your future. But now, you're reluctant to leave. It seemed that the brothers were at least beginning to address their feelings since they fell. Now you can't help but wonder if that development will stagnate once you leave.

You can't help but remember when you first arrived as an exchange student nearly three years ago. A time when you've just found yourself summoned into the Devildom. A time when you didn't know that magic existed. A time when you were afraid of the brothers and their capabilities. Everyone but Mammon and Asmodeus tried to kill you at least once. You can't help but remember Belphegor's bloodied hands as Mammon held the corpse of another version of you. A lot has changed in three short years since you came to the Devildom. You can't help but fidget with the Ring of Light and wonder if Lucifer even noticed.

The last thing you wanted to do was leave without any regrets, but you had to constantly remind yourself that these were not the brothers that you knew and fell in love with. Though since Solomon has yet to return, you were at a loss as to what to do.

You hope that you can find the entity that sent you back here before things get worse.

Spookiest moments from the first season of The Sandman

Since we are only two days from Halloween I have decided to compile the spookiest and creepiest moments from the first season of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman from Netflix. I will be providing video clip links whenever possible for this list. 10. The fate of Rosemary in episode 4 and perhaps all of 24/7 (24 Diner in the comics and audio drama). This particular story isn't really scary to me but it is very gory and I know that is scary for a lot of people. The gore actually kind of bored me but that could be because I'm very desensitized to gore from watching too much of things like American Horror story. The part of this story that actually does catch me off guard is the changed fate for Rosemary. You get so worried for her and her dog. The way the story was changed was definitely an improvement (in my opinion) but you get so worried for her, that I have to count it as a spooky moment. By the way, Sandman fans so heavily approved of how Rosemary's fate was changed that just today I saw the phrase "I was hoping they Rosemaryed her." used by Sandman fan.

9. Poor Jessamy's death. Jessamy's Death is one of the most gut wrenching moments in The Sandman. What makes it all the worse is the hopeful music playing while her plan to rescue Morpheus is set into motion. And then, just when it looks like she's about to free him... she gets killed very suddenly right in front of him. It's startling and heartbreaking at the same time. It leaves you feeling chilled, disappointed, and also pitying Morpheus for his reaction. The emotion conveyed by Tom Sturridge as Morpheus in that scene, without uttering a word, is incredible.

8. The banishing of Hector Hall's ghost to the Afterlife. When Morpheus banishes Hector Hall's ghost, Hector looks like he is decomposing right before our eyes. No wonder Lyta Hall mistakenly thought of it as Morpheus killing him. 7. Funland and his death. Funland is a creepy predator attending a serial killer convention. HIs death is a creepy moment because you think Jed and Rose had just been rescued but really they are now at the mercy of the rogue nightmare, The Corinthian. 6. Johanna Constantine's Nightmare. Much like with DC"s John Constantine, we get a tragic flashback of what happened in New Castle, where a Dark Magick obsessed father (treated much like a drug addiction) opens a portal to Hell and accidentally invokes something. The demon claims an innocent little girl while Johanna Constantine is trying to banish the demon. 5. Johanna Constantine exorcises a demon. Here Johanna Constantine banishes a demon but the one who is possessed is not who she suspected. (Though many of us saw the twist coming.)

4. Death comes to collect a soul. This isn't really "scary." In fact it's sweet. But there is an underlying creepiness to knowing the end is near and the mystery of what comes next. Here we see Death (Morpheus's sister) come collect an old man and take him to the afterlife. Though this isn't necessarily scary it can still be disturbing.

3. The summoning of Morpheus. Roderick Burgess and his coven, The Order of Ancient Mysteries, attempt to invoke The Grim Reaper and get Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams by mistake. The invocation scene is pretty intense but I must admit I actually think the audio drama version is better. It just feels more intense, more foreboding, or maybe that's because my mind has to come up with the visuals. It's definitely longer in the audio drama version, mind you.

At the exact moment that Morpheus feels the pull of the summoning spell, he was confronting the rogue nightmare, The Corinthian, who Morpheus meant to uncreate for having been roaming The Waking World and killing mortals.

2. Invoking The Hecateae. After Morpheus escapes his captivity he has to track down his tools that had been taken from him by his captors. This includes his ruby amulet (a conduit for his powers), his battle helm (he never actually goes into battle but it's a symbol of his authority), and his pouch of dream sand (He is The Sandman after all). Having no clue where his tools have ended up Morpheus is left with no choice but to seek the aid of the Three-in-one. The Three-in-One represent the triple Goddess, Hecate (Goddess of Witchcraft and magick), The Fates, and the furies (divine vengeance against those that spill family blood). The Hecateae are fickle and dangerous and very powerful.

1. The Oldest Game. Morpheus vs. Lucifer. Many people would tell you that there's nothing creepier than a depiction of The Devil. In this scene Morpheus challenges Lucifer to a sort of duel to win back his helm, which had been stolen from him during his long captivity at the hands of mortal sorcerers. The challenge between Morpheus and Lucifer is known as "The Oldest Game" which some might recognize as the Wizard's duel from The Sword in the Stone or even the version from The Raven starring Vincent Price and Boris Karloff as rival sorcerers. Defense Witches 2 Characters - Other

Heyo for this final characters introductions I'll be sharing some of the other characters that made it into the game and some of the limited-timed events character descriptions. Just keep in mind especially for the seasonal characters the translated descriptions weren't fully clear this was sort of what I was able to get out of them >-<

Luna - Summon Spirt

"An ancient spirit that lives forever. It can be summoned based on an ancient contract. Although it does not fight itself, it collects magical power from the earth and gradually shares its magical power with the summoner. A mysterious being who has no concept of good or evil and accepts all things as they are. My hobby is building dungeons."

Lili and Lala - Summoners

"Blue-haired Lili and red-haired Lala, join forces and summon a hero! An unknown being who has a telepathic ability that only the two of them can communicate with, as they share a shared fate that one will die no matter who tries it. The theory of extraterrestrial life forms is also deeply rooted. Where the heroes are summoned from us also shrouded in mystery, and we are waiting for clarification."

Professor Linnel - Teacher

A graduate and head of the magic school. She is working as an apprentice teacher at the school while developing new magic that adds magic to music. She has a gentle and self-paced personality, and she speaks to students as if she were talking to small children. My hobby is watching concerts. Lately, I've been obsessed with the Luxor band, which is popular among young people."

Christmas Chloe

"The student council will hold a Christmas party. Chloe was given the role of Santa. As she was handing out promotional flyers in cosplay a person was captivated by her unique gestures. One after another Santa Chloe's popularity has now spread not only within the school but throughout the town. I can't tell from her expression but she (doesn't?) seems happy about it."

Christmas Daisy

"This year Daisy was chosen to play the role of Santa, who makes children's dreams come true at the Christmas Party. Daisy prepares for the event after intense training, but her false beard falls off during an important scene and she gives the wrong gift. I keep failing... She becomes completely depressed however during her final performance, she receives letters of gratitude from the children, and her usual smile returns."

New Years Cornet

"What is it? Everyone is wearing something called a "furisode"! I can't lose either! I'm going to call the tailor in the demon world right away! There's no New Year's in the demon world, but if the former great demon lord asks me to... We can't leave this out. Thus, the first "long-sleeved kimono" in the demon world was completed! It was very satisfying for Cornet.

New Years Mint

"Mint changed unto the "long-sleeved kimono" that Daisy gave her. I'm going to show everyone. However, the only students left at the magic school during winter break are Tulle and Cornet the supplementary training duo. I was a little disappointed, but the two of them complimented me on how cute I was so I'm feeling great! I'm going to eat a lot of mochi and do my best again this year!"

New Years Felt

"In Stishford, a place where trade is prosperous and a point of exchange between different cultures, furisode the folk costume of the eastern countries are all the rage! Furisode was also sent to Felt's room for a girl working hard in the city. I'm a little embarrassed, but I'm going to go out wearing this today!"

Fun fact about Lili and Lala out of all the characters listed here on the others list they were the only ones present in the initial release of the game. However, they weren't playable... they were only really present in the summoning screen of the gacha to get more witches before becoming playable at a late date. Other than that look at their little dance :D

But yeah that's kinda it for the characters released for this game I'll try assembling this game manga together. Just might be kinda difficult my younger self decided to not save like manga's together >_<

i have this not thought out whatsoever wh au where the demons and humans are swapped but its not focused on the mansion at all, its lime 550 years later in a shitty situation thats marginally better than her original one in that shes able to leave (if temporarily) and learn things. such as how to read, roughly, and how to summon demons, which she does, and that demon is sirius.

and its basically an au where lime is so awful, deranged, and sirius gets more and more scared of her because shes unlike anything hes ever met. and their dynamic is bonkers because Sirius Has All The Power. Lime can't do a damn thing to him, and he can do anything to her. He is the one whom benefits from this far more than her. But Lime's so zealous in her desire to kill everyone around her in revenge for the hell she's grown up in and he just genuinely forgets the dynamic they're supposed to have. Its very warped and toxic and , its that post thats like 'walter white is so funny seasoned drug lords stopped working with him to put their mental health first'.

and this is the song that always makes me think of them. ive completely stripped it of its original meaning and ignore all the lines about kissing. but its literally them in this au . well we arent ignoring the kissing is that the kissing is a metaphor for lime pulling power from sirius and hes so terrified and intrigued that he keeps giving it to her. its so thme i promise.

・As we confirmed Doctor Who exists in this universe, I want David Tennent and Crowley to meet. Just pass by him or something. Please lord.

・like Crowley being bored and gets super into dicter who.

・if i don't get muriel and Crowley's family dynamic i might not survive this shit.

・Crowley has long hair and muriel plating it for him, but they mess it up so Crowley teaches them how to plat hair.

・I want Crowley to go to space. I don't know, run into the sun and burn your wings I guess.

・I have this horrible idea that how much attention he's giving to the plants is how much attention he's giving to himself. And how he treats himself.

・Like season 1, he shouts at the plants threatening them so they grow better, but in season 2 there's that one plant that has a spot. But he's more relaxed so he doesn't get rid of it. 

・If s3 opens with Crowley surrounded by dead plants, i mait just not.

・I won't Crowley to have a massive ass grean house in this cottage. Please.

・I can't decide if i won't Muriel to eat food. Like it's in the grey zone. It would be super cute if Crowley, azi muriel went out to eat and stuff but also, muriels an angel.
