A Brick House Pressure Washing Guide
For pressure washing structural bricks, a person will require a pressure washer first and foremost. The PSIs of pressure washers play an essential part in washing. Individuals make blunders right here. Professionals suggest choosing washers, not exceeding the 2000 PSI range. If you pick 5000 PSI pressure washers, it might scar up the structural bricks and cause the property owner extra bucks.
Preparing The Brick Wall For Pressure Washing
Surface preparation is vital for structural brick wall pressure cleaning in Sydney. Why? Because the property owner does not want to let water pass through outer surfaces. That can cause massive harm to the structural wall. Search for missing mortars between the structural bricks. Follow the steps for avoiding internal harm. Brick mortars can be harmed over time:-
1. Clear The Area: As long as you prefer pressure washing, please make the site clear of obstructions.
2. Load With Detergent: Load pressure washer detergent tanks with brick cleaning detergent. Pick detergents that are suitable for pressure cleaning in Sydney. If you don't utilise suitable detergents, there might still be some dirt residue on the mortars.
3. Spray The Detergent: The key to suitable brick pressure washing is utilising more detergent as well as water. You must use more detergents. Spray the mixture together with minimum pressure as well as leave it for a while, and don't let it dry. Spray appropriately from the bottom to the top using detergents.
Summing Up
Conduct house washing in Northern Beaches again and again to get your desired outcomes. The first wash might not be as promising as wished for due to heavy stains. Complete your chore by employing some sealant if practicable. Remember to employ pressure washers and safety tips with the manual. Safety shoes, as well as goggles, are compulsory for making use of pressure washers. For added suggestions, do contact your nearest professional pressure washer.

Cuddle and snuggle prompts please? snuggling up to them when they're cold, for Prometheus and Corinthian since they're one of my favorites
Ooooh thank you bestie!! I've got a fun idea for this one ;)
Cuddle & Snuggle Prompts
____
Winter had struck the Dreaming, and it brought with it the biggest imagined storm any of them had ever seen.
The Corinthian supposed it reflected the state of the Waking. The Northern hemisphere, to his knowledge, had been struck with the winter of all winters - something the Waking folk called a polar vortex these days.
Whatever it was, it made them cold, which made them dream of the cold, which sent the Dreaming into its own sort of vortex.
There were warmer spots, of course. Far-off beaches, cozy coffee-shop nooks, arid deserts or humid caves in the far corners of the Dreaming. There were still those dreamers in the warmer climates, after all, and all those whose dreams of the summer heat never faltered despite the chill of the real world.
And there was Prometheus.
They were a blazing fire, of course, they always were. Their little corner of the Dreaming, that Medieval house with a fire always blazing in the hearth, seemed untouched by the snowstorm around them. Snow still gathered on the roof, dusted the yard in picturesque heaps, but that seemed to be all for show. That was Mary Hospitality, wanting a winter out of the storybooks.
The Corinthian stepped into the house, kicking snow off his Oxfords as he did. Two more steps, and he'd stripped the coat off his shoulders and hung it on a hook by the door - it was wet with melted snow anyway, after one of his ventures had taken him straight through a vicious blizzard. He unsheathed his knives and let his suspenders hang loose at his waist. His shirt underneath was equally damp from the snowstorm. He debated just taking it off entirely.
The cold wouldn't kill him, of course. But that didn't mean he had to like it.
He was poking at the fireplace when Prometheus returned, some nebulous amount of time later. He hadn't been particularly lucky with starting a fire. That wasn't his domain, of course, and he'd never had much of a reason to learn. Especially not when fire had its way of drifting right back to his side at the end of every night. And so the chill had lingered with him, right up until Prometheus opened the door.
"You look cold."
"That bad, huh?" he shot back, giving them an attempt at his usual suave smile. It didn't come out so well, not when he was still sitting cross-legged on the dirt floor.
"You look like the caveman who lost his flint." they teased, a wash of warmth trailing them as they stepped further into the house.
"Oh, so I'm a caveman now?"
"Oooh, fire," Prometheus cooed, dipping their torch into the hearth and watching as flames danced almost instantaneously across the kindling. They leaned their torch up against the bricks of the fireplace and took a step towards the back room.
But only a step.
Before they could get any further, the Corinthian caught their wrist and tugged them right down into his lap. Prometheus let out a startled sort of squeak and tensed for only a millisecond, but their tension quickly dissolved into laughter as he wrapped his arms around them.
"Wow- you really are cold." they remarked as he buried his face in the side of their neck. The Corinthian just hummed, more focused on soaking in their warmth. They were a walking campfire, endless warmth of both the physical and metaphorical. And they'd chosen, of all things, of all nightmares, to share that warmth with him.
"Stay with me a minute, sweetheart." he found himself mumbling into their skin, "Let me warm up."
He expected them to shift, to get up and press forward as they so often did. That was how most of these nights went, after all. Regardless of circumstance. Every minute he got them to rest was a victory of its own right, with how driven Prometheus always was to keep moving.
The Corinthian was a simple pleasure in their life. A guilty pleasure, even. That was his role, had always been his role, the mirror to mankind's own hedonism, and he was happy to fill that role when it came to them. But he knew Prometheus' first priority would always be to their dreamers. He knew that if he chose to double back on all that he'd gained, if he turned violent towards their precious sleeping souls, they would fell him in a heartbeat.
In a way, that cutting edge of theirs was comforting. It echoed his own. It reminded him that they had both indeed come from nightmares.
But tonight Prometheus did not move. If anything, they settled in deeper against his body, sharing with him their familiar warmth.
"I'm not going anywhere."

OC Interview!!
Tagged by @adelaidedrubman to do an interview for Reverie. Well, for an oc, but I chose Reverie so this is what you get.
...
"An interview? Like, for a new job?" Reverie tilts her head. "I like my job in surgery, thanks. Don't want a job on your team, much as I like hanging around your office."
House scoffs. "Hire you for my team? A nurse? Please. No, this is an interview for a campaign for Princeton-Plainsboro, something about "good publicity." Don't think you're special, I had to do one too."
Rolling her eyes, Reverie takes a seat at the table. "Yeah, 'cause you're the picture perfect example of good publicity, House. 'Kay, so where do I start?"
"Just talk to the camera like a person," Cuddy interjects, popping out from behind said device. "Don't be shy. God knows he wasn't."
Reverie inhales sharply and stares at the camera with those eerily dark, almost-black brown eyes. "Fine. Fire away."
Name: Reverie. No, I don't have a last name. So don't ask again.
Nickname: Rev, Angel, some stuff House calls me that I'd rather not repeat.
Gender: Angel. (House: not a gender!) *sighs* Fine, I'm a girl.
Star Sign: Pisces. Birthday's coming up, you know. The 25th. Just a tip.
Personality Type: The first day of nursing school, they made us do these ridiculous tests, and apparently I'm an INFP. I don't really know what any of that shit means.
Height: 5’1. 5'4 with the halo. Which Cuddy doesn't let me wear to work anymore...
Orientation: Bisexual. And before you ask me for the fiftieth time, House, I've never had a threesome. (House: you're no fun!)
Nationality/Ethnicity: Aussie born and raised, now I'm in New Jersey.
Fave Fruit: Citrus, give me anything citrus. I'll take the limes out your Corona and suck 'em. House, keep your mouth shut on that.
Fave Season: I'm assuming you mean Northern Hemisphere, since I'm living in the great state of New Jersey now. Summer. Chase takes me surfing in the summer, we go to the beach a lot. It's warm. Whatever.
Fave Flower: Everyone around me is convinced this is a subtle psychological influence from playing Metal Gear Solid 3, but star of Bethlehem. House, keep your mouth shut. You can say you're not a video game dork but the fact that you attribute my love for a damn flower to a game is kind of contradictory, no?
Fave Scent: There's this Tyler Candle scent, Diva. I wash all my clothes and sheets in it, light candles of it. I made it Chase's favorite scent, too.
Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate: FUCK HOT DRINKS.
Average Hours of Sleep: I'm a surgical assistant RN on call constantly. Answering this is like playing roulette.
Dog or Cat Person: I love all animals, so I like to say equal. I'm honestly more of a fish person, though. I keep begging Chase for a fish tank. When we get a bigger place, he says...
Dream Trip: Chase and I will return to Australia, and he'll take me diving in the Great Barrier Reef. We'll surf and comb the beach and explore parts of the country I never got to see growing up. Together.
Favorite Fictional/Real Character: Babydoll from Sucker Punch. I'd like to dress as her one day.
Number of Blankets You Sleep With: One, but Chase and I each have our own because if we try to share one I always steal it.
Random Fact: House and I race our motorcycles to work sometimes. I always beat him.
House peeks into the frame. "Okay, you may lie to the camera with cute stories about the beach and your little boyfriend, but that is one lie I will not let your smooth-talking, con artist self get away with. I have beaten you at least five times."
"They weren't lies, House. Some people are happy. And..hmm...to be fair, there was a tie once."
"A tie? A t-- no it wasn't!"
The two are about to break into an argument when Cuddy shuts off the camera and says, "Okay! That's enough! Reverie, why don't you take five and go find Chase?"

Southern Infrastructure Megastructure Gothic
@eightyonekilograms, in a post about why levees and dikes won't save Florida from Sea Level Rise:
dams and levees won't work because southern Florida is a limestone sponge and the water will just come up through the ground— but with a trillion dollars of other people's money to spend, they'll figure out something. That's what real estate investors are banking on, and they are probably correct.
NOAA has a Sea Level Rise map, which you can jack all the way up to 10 feet above "Current Mean Higher High Water", and then scroll around the entire coastal United States to see what gets flooded.
Pensacola is fine; they know what storm surge looks like from being in the splash-damage radius of every time New Orleans gets fucked.
St. Pete/Clearwater loses its waterfront, but retains significant infrastructure inland.
Naples and Cape Coral lose their entire downtowns, but the inland suburban sprawl survives. I guess they'll need to convert some of those tract houses into neighborhood-scale commercial.
Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and indeed most of Miami-Date and Broward Counties are awash, and become the basis of new coral reefs for the Northern Florida Keys.
But West Palm Beach is okay.
By Congressional mandate, NASA adapts the Cralwers to work as amphibious vechicles, in order to continue using Shuttle-derived hardware at Pad 39, with the new Sea Launch System rated to withstand salt spray inside the engine bells at launch.
SpaceX stops leasing in Texas, where South Padre Island is completely underwater, and buys up an entire subdivision's worth of now-island land in South Miami. The neighbors won't complain about concrete dust if there are no neighbors!
Saint Augustine dies, but Jacksonville is like Pensacola, and picks up its skirts to avoid the puddles.
Trillions of dollars of dikes aren't the answer. The solution will be to jack everything up ten feet, from roads to ports to homes. If you can't adapt to life in a saline intertidal wash, you'll move inland.
No, the real issue will be whether they can build a seawall around DC's National Mall and National Airport that won't offend the sensitivities of climate-denying Congresscritters.

Whether you’re an avid nature lover, an explorer looking for the next scenic spot, or simply someone who enjoys a peaceful day by the water, Black Sand Beach has something special for everyone.
The Natural Beauty of Black Sand Beach
The Stunning Black Sand
The unique black sand at Black Sand Beach is not just visually striking but also geologically fascinating. The color comes from the high iron content in the taconite deposits that washed ashore over time. Scenic Views and Surrounding Nature
The beach is more than just its sand. Enclosed by towering cliffs, dense forests, and the expansive views of Lake Superior, it creates an atmosphere that feels both secluded and tranquil. The crisp air, combined with the sounds of water gently crashing onto the shore, makes it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
How to Get to Black Sand Beach
Directions from Major Cities

Local Transportation Options
While public transportation is limited, most visitors find driving the most convenient way to reach the beach. However, those preferring not to drive can consider local tours or shuttle services from Duluth.
Things to Do at Black Sand Beach MN
Swimming and Relaxing by the Shore
Though the water in Lake Superior can be chilly, many visitors still enjoy a refreshing dip during the warmer months. If swimming isn’t your thing, lounging on the unique black sand while basking in the sun is equally satisfying.
Hiking Trails Nearby

When hiking, stay on marked trails and be aware of your surroundings. While encountering wildlife can be exciting, always maintain a safe distance and avoid feeding animals.
Black Sand Beach’s History and Significance
The Formation of Black Sand Beach
As mentioned earlier, Black Sand Beach’s distinctive color comes from taconite particles, a result of Minnesota’s mining history. Over years of erosion and natural processes, these particles washed ashore, forming the beautiful black beach we see today.
Its Cultural and Ecological Importance
Black Sand Beach isn’t just a scenic spot. It holds ecological significance, as the surrounding area is home to a variety of native species. It’s also culturally important, being a reminder of Minnesota’s rich mining past.
Conclusion

Israel's war on Gaza forces Palestinians to drink polluted water
New Post has been published on https://sa7ab.info/2024/08/11/israels-war-on-gaza-forces-palestinians-to-drink-polluted-water-2/
Israel's war on Gaza forces Palestinians to drink polluted water
Palestinians are struggling to provide clean drinking water throughout the war-torn coastal enclave, which is besieged and targeted by Israel.
The need for water is increasing dramatically with the rise in summer temperatures.
Day by day, the water crisis in the Gaza Strip worsens due to the ongoing war waged by the Israeli occupation since October 7, 2023.
Locals in the coastal enclave are facing a health crisis because Israel decided at the beginning of the war to cut off electricity, water, and fuel supplies to the Strip.
Mohammed al-Jamali, a Gaza-based Palestinian, is forced to wake up early every day to wait for hours in a long and crowded line to fill a few gallons with salty water.
The waiting time is often interrupted by verbal altercations among citizens racing to obtain the water.
A 35-year-old father of four told The New Arab, “I stand here to get a little salty water to drink and to use for washing our hands and faces.”
“Currently,” he says, “we have no solution other than to use this water for drinking and human use, especially since most of the groundwater wells and water supplies have been damaged by the war.”
To make the water “somewhat” suitable for drinking, Al-Jamali boils it. The process of boiling water often takes about an hour and requires wood — usually costing more than two dollars.
In the past, Al-Jamali recalls, he could get 1,000 litres of desalinated water for about $15, and most of the water reaching homes was suitable for domestic use.
Now, Al-Jamali complains, “I often spend long hours getting salty water that is not suitable for drinking or human use.”
The same difficult conditions are experienced by Kamal Abdel Hadi, a boy from the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, who is forced to walk five kilometres every day to reach the nearest place where salty water is distributed.
The 14-year-old boy usually leaves his tent on the beach of Nuseirat early in the morning so he can reserve his turn and bring water back to his family before noon.
“When I leave the tent, I feel very afraid because of the presence of Israeli drones everywhere. I am afraid that those drones will bomb the place where I am,” he told The New Arab.
However, the child adds, “If we do not bring water to my mother, my siblings will die of thirst. We do not have many options — everything is difficult here in Gaza because of the ongoing Israeli war.”
Acceleration of hunger and thirst crisis
Since the onset of the conflict, the Israeli military has systematically targeted and destroyed much of the Gaza Strip’s infrastructure, particularly water pipes and underground wells.
This strategy, as described by Hosni Mahna, coordinator of the Gaza Strip Towns Union, aims to impose starvation and thirst on the Palestinian population.
“Because of the fuel shortage and Israel’s targeting of water facilities, the municipalities of the Gaza Strip are facing major challenges in pumping water from the groundwater wells to the homes of Palestinians,” Mahna told The New Arab.
Mahna points out that the water share per person in northern Gaza has decreased to two litres per day — down from 90 litres before the Israeli war — which exacerbates the suffering of citizens, especially during the rise in temperatures.
Mahna warns of the accelerating hunger and thirst crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip, expressing his fear that the number of Palestinians whose lives will be claimed by this crisis will increase.
What makes matters worse, Mahna adds, is that the majority of the population lives in tents lacking basic housing facilities. The lack of toilets means that residents are forced to relieve themselves in the open — causing the soil to absorb urine and faeces, which leads to the pollution of the remaining groundwater wells.
‘Screaming from the pain’
Despite the high cost of mineral water in Gaza markets, Amina al-Abed must purchase it to protect her health. She suffers from a kidney disease in her right kidney, and her left kidney is only functioning at 60 percent capacity.
Therefore, Amina takes precautions to avoid medical complications, especially considering the scarcity of essential medications and medical supplies in hospitals if she needs to see a doctor.
“I need about $15 daily to buy mineral water for drinking and cooking for myself, while my family relies on salty water,” she said. “I often feel embarrassed because I buy mineral water at an exorbitant price while my children are starving, but I do not want to die from kidney disease.”
Despite her rigorous precautions and preventive measures, Amina still experienced symptoms such as high fever, severe cramps, and overall weakness.
“I was screaming from the intensity of the pain and didn’t know what the reason was. I went to the hospital to find out the cause of this unbearable pain,” she added.
After hours of waiting in the hospital, Amina was shocked to discover that the mineral water she had been drinking was contaminated and unfit for human consumption.
According to the doctor, the mineral water was not safe to drink because it had been exposed to the sun for long periods, causing it to interact with the plastic bottle, in addition to the fact that it had expired.
Amina highlighted that the struggle extends beyond just drinking water. Securing water for bathing and washing dishes also demands considerable effort and time. She emphasised that water has become more important than food and that they have been receiving it in very limited quantities for an extended period.
Israel using hunger as a weapon
To help alleviate the daily burdens on her children, who have to walk long distances to fetch water, Safaa al-Halabi from Khan Yunis City in southern Gaza is rationing water by cutting back on activities such as washing clothes, dishes, and bathing.
“We suffer all the time because of the lack of water. We are currently living in the summer and yet we are forced to go without bathing for several days — not to mention reducing the amount of water we drink,” she tells The New Arab.
On March 18, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that Israel is using hunger as a weapon by preventing the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations has called on Israel to open the land crossings to flood the Strip with humanitarian aid before hunger kills more Palestinians, warning of an “inevitable famine” especially in the north.
Israel, in violation of international laws, restricts the access of humanitarian aid to the targeted Gaza Strip, particularly by land.
This has caused a shortage of food, medicine, and fuel supplies, leading to a famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly in the Strip.

Stocks tumbled over fears of a U.S. economic slowdown (NYT) A wave of anxiety rippled through financial markets today, with stocks falling in the U.S. and around the world as investors zeroed in on signs of a slowing American economy. The S&P 500 fell 3 percent, its worst day since September 2022. The drop brings the index down 8.5 percent from its peak in July, but it’s still up 8.7 percent in 2024 overall. Investors were apparently spooked by a combination of factors last week. Today’s drop extended a sell-off that began after the U.S. jobs report on Friday showed significantly slower hiring, with unemployment at its highest level in nearly three years. The report also followed a Federal Reserve meeting in which officials decided to keep interest rates steady. That fueled fears that the Fed might have waited too long to cut rates, allowing a soft landing to turn into a more turbulent one.
Phoenix: Living with heat (NZZ) If you want to understand what heat does to people, you have to study it where it already dominates life. In Phoenix, Arizona, for example, in America’s Southwest. Nearly every day in July featured temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius (above 109 degrees Fahrenheit), with nights never dropping below 32 degrees. With an average daily temperature of 36 degrees, June was the hottest month on record. The rising nighttime temperatures could ensure that the summer record of 2023 with 55 extremely hot days is broken again this year. After sunset, concrete facades, roofs and asphalt roads continue to radiate stored heat for hours—so much so that people sweat outside until well after midnight. People who live in Phoenix only open the door at night to get some fresh air. If you want to meet people on the street in the city’s residential areas, you have to get up early. Joggers who want to run around the block more than twice set off at half past four at the latest, when it is coolest. Dogs are taken for a walk between five and six, and after sunrise it is rare to see a baby carriage on the street. A greenhorn who has gone outside without a water bottle is kindly but emphatically told by passersby how dangerous this is. You sweat almost constantly in this climate.
Tropical Storm Debby hits Florida with floods (AP) Tropical Storm Debby slammed Florida with torrential rain and high winds, contributing to at least four deaths as it turned menacingly toward the Eastern Seaboard’s low-lying regions and threatened to flood some of America’s most historic Southern cities. Record-setting rain was expected to cause flash flooding, with up to 30 inches (76 centimeters) possible in some areas, the National Hurricane Center said. The potential for high water threatened the historic cities of Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina. Up to 18 inches (46 centimeters) was forecast in central and north Florida. / Something else Hurricane Debby brought: (CNN) Twenty-five packages of cocaine weighing about 70 pounds washed ashore along on a beach in Islamorada, Florida, on Sunday, according to a social media post from US Customs and Border Patrol. According to the agency in Miami, a good samaritan discovered the drugs and alerted authorities. The cocaine has a street value of more than $1 million.
Prime Minister Condemns ‘Far-Right Thuggery’ as Riots Grip U.K. (NYT) Anti-immigration rioters attacked a hotel in the town of Rotherham in northern England on Sunday, breaking windows and appearing to set fires at a hotel that has housed asylum seekers, as riots continued in Britain. The police in cities across the country have braced for continued far-right and anti-immigration protests spurred by a deadly stabbing attack last week in the northern English town of Southport. Disinformation spread rapidly that erroneously claimed the suspect in the knife attack was an immigrant. On Saturday, dozens of people were arrested as demonstrations from Liverpool to Belfast descended into violence. Sunday saw a new wave of clashes, with groups gathering in Rotherham, Bolton, Hull, Southport, Middlesbrough and other towns and cities scattered across the country that devolved into varying degrees of violence.
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina resigns and flees country as protesters storm palace (BBC) Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country. Hasina, who was seen as increasingly authoritarian, was forced out by weeks of protests that led to deadly clashes with the security forces. She had led Bangladesh since 2009, and took a helicopter to India, according to BBC Bengali. Hasina's resignation comes as thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in the capital Dhaka—with thousands more set to follow, a day after clashes between police and protesters left at least 90 people dead. Demonstrators stormed Hasina's official residence in Dhaka, looting it and carrying away furniture.
Thai democracy (Washington Post) Pita Limjaroenrat is arguably Thailand’s most popular politician—but his career now hangs in the balance. The suave, charismatic figurehead of Thailand’s Move Forward party led his progressive, reformist faction to a stunning first-place victory in general elections in May 2023. But the political establishment in Bangkok, enmeshed in close to a decade of de facto military rule, had other ideas. Conservative forces moved against Pita and his allies, with the Senate, comprised of lawmakers handpicked by the regime, thwarting his coalition’s ability to form a ruling government. Eventually, the Pheu Thai party, one of Move Forward’s erstwhile allies, broke with Pita and joined hands with the same military that had thrown it out of power in 2014. Pita, cast into the opposition, has been subjected to a concerted campaign of lawfare targeting both him and his party. On Aug. 7, Thailand’s constitutional court is set to rule whether to dissolve Move Forward and effectively disqualify Pita himself from holding political office in the near future. The case is centered on Move Forward’s campaign pitch to reform Thailand’s draconian lèse-majesté laws that criminalize critical speech about the Thai monarchy; they are now being wielded by the state to potentially kneecap Pita and his party. The looming crisis spotlights how Thailand is a “competitive autocracy,” as Pita put it to me himself in an interview last week. “An election victory does not translate to governance here.”
Four years after the Beirut port blast, justice is still stalled (AP) Four years ago, Helen Ata got a call from someone she didn’t know telling her that a massive explosion at the Beirut port had caused her building to collapse. Her brothers were trapped under the rubble. One of them, Issam, survived, with a permanent disability in his right leg. Her twin brother Abdo, whom she calls her “other half,” died. The port blast anniversary Sunday comes as the region braces for retaliation after an Israeli strike killed a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut and an explosion in Tehran, widely blamed on Israel, killed top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. For many, the fears of a new escalation come as wounds of the port explosion four years ago remain raw. On Aug. 4, 2020, hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate detonated in a Beirut Port warehouse. The gigantic blast tore through the Lebanese capital, killing at least 218 people, according to an AP count, wounded more than 6,000 others, and devastated large swaths of Beirut, causing billions of dollars in damages. The blast stunned the nation and a probe by a maverick investigative judge into the explosion shook the country’s ruling elite, rife with corruption and mismanagement. However, years of obstructions by top officials to dodge accountability and stall the probe have hampered hopes for justice.
International airlines have suspended flights to Israel (NYT) Israel went into a new workweek in a state of deep uncertainty on Sunday, with the potential for attacks by Iran and the militant groups it supports already causing disruptions for many. A number of international airlines have suspended flights to and from Israel pending expected retaliation against the country by Iran and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah. That has left tens of thousands of Israelis unable to come home, according to an Israeli official who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to discuss the matter. Delta, United, the Lufthansa group and Aegean Airlines were among those that suspended services to Israel. Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is asking citizens traveling abroad to fill out an online survey to help the government map where they are and try to organize solutions, including alternative commercial flights. Most are believed to be stuck in Europe and the United States.
Israeli Reservists Confront Toll of Protracted War (WSJ) Aday after Hamas attacked Israel and sparked war on Oct. 7, Adi Hazan drove to a rally point in southern Israel and began what he thought would be one or two months of emergency military-reserve service. Nearly 10 months later, the machine-gunner is still deployed—and the rest of his life is in shambles. His construction business is failing, he is sinking into debt, and his family relies on handouts from friends and charities. And he doesn’t see an end in sight. A small nation with fewer than 10 million people, Israel relies heavily on reservists such as Hazan to keep its military functioning in times of crisis. But now, with the war in Gaza heading into its 11th month, and long-running exchanges of fire with regional militias such as Hezbollah heating up, many of those fighters are close to a breaking point. Exhausted and in some cases demoralized, they are struggling to balance family and work with military service, while the economic toll from their absences mounts. The strain on military manpower is one reason Israeli officials are hesitant to launch an all-out war against Hezbollah, which would require the same cohort of weary reservists to fight against a military power far superior to Hamas.
Israeli Strike on Gaza Shelter Kills at Least 30 and Injures Dozens (NYT) An Israeli airstrike on a school functioning as a shelter in Gaza City killed at least 30 people and injured dozens more on Sunday, according to the Palestinian emergency response agency in Gaza and Palestinian news outlets. It was the third attack on a school in the last four days. Most of the victims were women and children, said Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for the Palestinian Civil Defense. He said that an F-16 fighter jet hit a school called Hassan Salame, where at least 14 people were still buried under the rubble. Shrapnel and debris also hit a neighboring school known as Nasser, he said. The death toll was initially 25, but rose to 30. The Israeli military said it had targeted “terrorists” in “Hamas command and control centers” located at the Hassan Salame and Nasser schools. It said it had taken “numerous steps to mitigate the risk of harming civilians” before the strike, including using precision munitions, surveillance and intelligence, though it did not specify how it had done so.
Nigerian protests fizzle out amid deadly police crackdown (Reuters) Protests against a soaring cost of living in Nigeria ebbed on Monday as few people turned out in major cities after security forces used lethal force to quell demonstrations. Hundreds of thousands had taken to the streets in cities including the capital Abuja and the commercial hub Lagos demanding relief from economic hardship and widespread insecurity in protests which started last Thursday and were meant to continue until Aug. 10. Amnesty International said at least 13 people have been killed in clashes with the police since Thursday. Police have put the death toll at seven, blaming some on accidents and an explosive device. A firm police response and a call for a protest pause by President Bola Tinubu have dampened the demonstrations.
