my brain: you should write 'there's only one bed' but with Stalion
me: ...how could I make that work in universe/good Alpha Pack canon divergence?
my brain: Good Alpha Pack that works for the Magic Council + Magic Council convention + Stiles working for the Magic Council too + Stalion room sharing because overbooking?
me: oh, okay, that could work. That could be a fun, short <5k Mischief Monday oneshot!!
The Overbooked Council Convention, currently at 6.5k: they barely had dinner and have, in fact, not shared the one bed yet
me: ...
me: ...what did I expect, that's one of my favorite angsty tropes and I am currently obsessed with this ship. Let's yeet that onto a Wednesday slot instead, December 11th...
--
(and so you won't have to just read my frustrated conversations with myself and my uncooperative documents, have a little sneak peek too~)
--
Stiles groaned softly to himself, his palms pressed against the cold marble of the counter in front of him, trying to keep himself from just sagging down onto the ground in frustration. He wanted to keep a bare minimum of dignity for however long he could. But after the fifteen hour drive he just had, everything in him ached and was cold, because of course did Roscoe’s heating break down in the middle of a cold autumn, of course it did. He’d been looking forward to reaching the hotel and to a hot bath and a warm bed for the past fourteen and a half hours, really.
Now that he was finally here, finally ready to check in and give himself to luxury and comfort at the cost of his employer, he was told that the hotel was overbooked. Overbooked. Because, apparently, the fucking Magic Council of North America couldn’t be bothered to make sure just how many Emissaries, Alpha Packs and other representatives and agents it invited to this meeting and how many rooms they’d need. And thanks to one too many breakdowns of Roscoe on the way here, Stiles was so late they had no available rooms anymore.
The receptionist looked ready to burst into tears. “I am truly so sorry, sir.”
Frowning at being called ‘sir’, Stiles rubbed his forehead. “It’s not your fault. I fully blame the council. Incompetent bureaucrats who only sit on their asses-“
“You know, you should not let the council hear you talk about them like that or you may no longer have a need for a room anyway, Stiles.”
Pausing in his frustrated face-rubbing, Stiles turned around. Near immediately did his face brighten when he looked at the redhead who’d spoken and the identical redhead right next to him.
“Ethan! Aiden!” Stiles couldn’t help the laughter bubbling in his chest as he practically threw himself at the two Alphas. “Oh, I haven’t seen you guys in years! I mean, in theory, I was aware that your pack would be here, because apparently fucking everyone is here, but, you know, it hadn’t consciously crossed my mind? It’s good to see you.”
A genuine smile spread over his lips when the twins hugged him back and each ran a hand slowly down his arms, scent-marking him. When was the last time he’d been scent-marked by a wolf? The happy warm feeling twisted into a sad, lonely kind of longing. He may not be a wolf himself, but he’d spent too much time of his life with wolf packs, he guessed.
“You grew up, pup,” Ennis said with a grin, ruffling Stiles’ hair roughly. “Still a twig though.”
“That’s called a twink and I am proud of it,” Stiles stuck his tongue out at the large Alpha.
The man laughed, a deep and rich sound that brought the smile back on Stiles’ lips. Kali next to him stepped up to also run a hand down Stiles’ arm, a pleased look on her face.
“My favorite student,” Marin’s voice held fond teasing. “How have you been, Stiles?”
Stiles’ heart jumped when he saw his former mentor and he practically buried himself in her arms. Deaton may have first discovered his Spark but the man had been unwilling to teach Stiles, to tell him more than the fact that he had a Spark. Stiles had wasted precious months. He would have been able to help so much better, may have even gotten himself, Erica and Boyd out of that damn basement all on his own, if he would have received even just a baseline level of magic training.
And then the Blackwood Pack rolled into town to evaluate the Hale Pack and see how Derek was faring as a young, new Alpha and with them came an actually helpful druid who was willing to teach Stiles all about magic. Or at least all she could teach him, what with her not being a Spark. Still, even Sparks could use spells, potions and rituals, needed to learn how to focus and channel magic, and all of that were things that Marin had been able to teach him.
While the Blackwood Pack had stayed in Beacon Hills, Stiles had spent nearly every afternoon at their apartment to study under Marin. Out of everyone in Beacon Hills, he had spent the most time with the Alpha Pack and thus grown the fondest of them, had befriended them.
The Alpha Pack helped Derek grow into the Alpha Stiles had always hoped he could be, helped him reconcile with Boyd and Erica, who’d chosen to stay in Beacon Hills after their little abduction and torture session. They also reunited Derek with his little sister Cora, who had been placed in foster care in another pack, because Laura had been too young and too overwhelmed to take on the responsibility of being Alpha and raising both a teenager and a little child.
The Alpha Pack had also helped them out with their Darach problem that popped up at the same time. Sadly, once the Darach was taken care of and the Hale Pack was stable enough, they left Beacon Hills again. That had been five years ago and though he hadn’t seen them since, and though they had only been a part of Stiles’ life for half a year, Stiles felt a warm giddiness at seeing them.
“I see you’ve fallen victim to the Magic Council’s impeccable managements, darling boy.”
Stiles’ heart stumbled a little and he couldn’t fight the shudder that ran down his spine at that delicious British accent and that pet-name that meant absolutely nothing because Deucalion was just being very British but it still did a lot to Stiles. Even after all these years. Oh, he’d had the biggest crush – maybe more, but Stiles had actively tried not to think about that back then and was definitely not going to start thinking about it now – on Deucalion Blackwood. The Alpha of Alphas. A title well-deserved. Turning a little, Stiles came face to face with the man and if possible, Deucalion looked even more handsome than the last time Stiles had seen him. Truly aging like the finest wine. Still tall and with broad shoulders, a lean but strong build and a face with sharp cut angles and a smirk that could make Stiles’ pants drop if the Alpha ever desired so. Not that Deuc ever would desire so, because why would he, but Stiles could dream. Had dreamed about that repeatedly, in many different positions, back then and for years to come.
“You know me, Demon Wolf. The person with the worst luck around.”
It was weird, Stiles didn’t know what to do with Deucalion. Every fiber in his being made him want to jump the man in a hug like he’d done with Marin, but he had been much closer to his former mentor than to the Alpha of Alphas. He’d just been an awkward, annoying kid who only invaded the Alphas’ den to be taught by their Emissary, after all. And what was he to them five years later…?

FusionFall Headcanons: Master Tentakillers
This fusion monster is a bit of a rarer type where a spawn utilizes technology to create a more cybernetic version of itself as opposed to possessing material(s). Its metal form is not really its body, but rather a kind of robot that the spawn drives, with its actual body encased in a protective glass barrier. This means that said spawn must be destroyed in order to truly defeat it, otherwise it will just try to reconnect to the robot. The same can also be said in-reverse: If the robot shell is left in one-piece, another spawn is bound to try to use it.
Breaking down some of the individual materials that make up the monster, we have tires, turbines, sawblades, giant lightbulbs, and vulcan cannons. These materials seemed to have been taken from a wide variety of sources across Orchid Bay: The turbines taken from boats, the lightbulbs taken from decorative fixtures at hotels/restaurants, and the cannons taken from when the military initially moved in to deal with the invasion. This mess of items created a surprisingly refined design based on squids.
They move along a trio of coils from which the vulcan cannons are attached to and are prone to "lashing out at lightning speed" according to their description. Primarily, they will fire fusion matter from either the cannons or with a charged attack from their left turbines. Meanwhile, the right turbine is used for melee attacks, the blades still attached to them used to slice at their targets. Able to readily aim in any direction, there is no safe vantage point to attack the Tentakillers from.
Their defenses are equally impressive. Even if you can get past their coils, their glass shells hover above them and are often out-of-reach. Trying to scale up the tentacles can result in getting cut by the sawblade fashioned over them, and the tire acts as additional protection at the base of the glass. This makes any kind of close-range combat a near-impossibility.
While you can attempt to disarm them, the fastest and most ideal way of dealing with these monsters is to destroy the lightbulb and the spawn inside first. This can be done with either repeated shots from firearms or large, carefully aimed explosives. Once the spawn is destroyed, the robot will not be able to run itself and disassembly should be easy. Just watch your back to make sure no other monsters sneak up on you while you tear the robot apart and note that the Tentakillers are very well aware of this weakness to themselves.
The mission "Fusion by the Sea (Part 1 of 3)" details an event where the Tentakillers stole a baby manatee. While manatees tend to live in shallower waters and need to come up for air regularly, given that these are marine mammals and how protective the mothers are of their babies, it would be no easy feat for Tentakillers to take one. They would likely need to go into the water to chase the manatees down. As such, while the monsters have yet to make themselves an underwater threat, the strong possibility of them adapting in this way does concern researchers.

In Brazil, a nature reserve near Rio de Janeiro is being threatened by a tourist resort
Tumblr media
Overflown by butterflies, scrub vegetation thrives on this eight-kilometre-long unspoilt beach nestled between the sea and the lagoon. The restinga of Maricá, just over an hour’s drive from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, is a habitat with unique biodiversity – already described by Charles Darwin in the 19th century in the notebooks of his voyage to the Americas. On 6 April 2023, the soundtrack to this heavenly setting began to crackle. For over a month, the usual sound of rolling waves was accompanied by the to-and-fro of construction machinery along the coastal path. A luxury resort, designed by the Spanish company IDB Brazil, could be erected there by 2026.
The master plan for ‘Maraey’ not only includes hotels and residential buildings, but also a shopping complex, a conference centre, an equestrian club, an aquarium and a golf course. According to the estimates of the Maricá Restinga Researchers’ Forum, the development could draw up to 300,000 visitors a year, or as many as 8,000 cars a day.
While the advertising boards planted in the middle of the dunes promote it as “the best sustainable tourist and residential destination in the Americas”, many researchers and environmental associations, whose conservation campaign began some 15 years ago, are warning of the threat to local biodiversity.
The site is part of the Mata Atlântica or Atlantic Forest, a tropical rainforest declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, stretching from the Brazilian coast to northern Argentina. It is one of Brazil’s most extensively studied restingas (the term used to describe this type of sandbar covered in vegetation influenced by the marine environment). “It is one of the rare remnants of this ecosystem associated with the Atlantic Forest in the state of Rio de Janeiro,” explains Anderson dos Santos Portugal, a biologist and professor at Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ).

The Cutting Floor
It’s summer in San Jose. The May weather is balmy, even in the orange and violet twilight. I’m waiting in line with friends dressed as Gaara and Sasuke for the masquerade near the convention center.
I’m sweaty. My feet are sore. My drugstore eyeliner, so carefully applied in the hotel mirror, is smudged—half gone. I’m so content to be among friends. The soreness in my ankles is a badge of honor I display proudly on my lapel. Proof that I am a dedicated con-goer.
It’s my first time away from home without my parents. I feel grown. I feel free. I am among people who understand me and who love the very same things that I love. Thousands of people just like me.
Gaara says something to Sasuke—makes a joke. My laughter bubbles up from somewhere inside of me. It is full and trilling. It is a child’s laugh because I’m a child.
Gaara looks at me, his gaze is skeptical and sharp.
“It wasn’t that funny,” he says.
And so I trim that part of me away. It no longer fits in the container I keep myself in, so it’s time for it to go. I have to remember that jokes can only be so funny and laughter can only be so loud.
It is my junior year of high school and I am in love with a boy. He plays guitar and looks good in the color blue. He shows me how to read tablatures and I realize I can learn to play guitar, too.
He has a girlfriend across the country. I don’t plan on trying to ruin that. I am a good girl. But I can’t help and adore him even if the feeling is unrequited.
Sometimes we text late at night. It always makes me feel like I am stealing something. There is a sort of precarious danger to the exchange, but a thrill all the same. He tells me he finds me attractive and my cheeks hurt with how brightly I smile at my screen.
Our language becomes formal and surface level after that. I’m a good girl and he has a girlfriend. I’m not disappointed. I feel so happy to finally be beautiful.
I want to experience love, though. I want to hold hands with somebody and kiss them chastely in public. I want people to see how happy we are. It will never happen with the boy and I can be okay with that. We’re friends and I love that too.
I ask him one night why I am still single.
He asks if I want him to be honest.
My stomach lurches. I don’t want him to be honest. I want him to tell me he doesn’t know why— to tell me I’m a beautiful, interesting girl. But now that I know he is not going to say this I tell him yes. I tell him I want him to be honest.
“You are dark and odd,” he says.
I don’t know what he means, but I am too hurt to ask. I scour every conversation I have had with the boy I loved and trim away anything that looks dark or odd. I weep for the parts of me I have had to amputate and cauterize the open wounds on my heart. It is a painful necessity if I ever want to be loved.
I am twenty years old and I am feeling better about myself than I ever have. I’m recovered from a break up that crushed me and I’m playing the field. There’s a man I’m pursuing. He’s eight years older than me.
We’re best friends. We know so much about each other. We have seen each other cry. He is handsome and he seems to like me. I tell him I want to be with him. He says he’s on the fence.
One day in the summer, he rests his hand on the sun-warmed skin of my thigh as I drive with him through town. The windows are down. The wind whips through my bright red hair. I dyed it myself. I brush my fingertips through the undercut I had my hairstylist shave on the side of my head.
He sighs in comfort but takes his hand back. I’m like his sister, he says. I am not convinced. I steal a kiss from his lips in the silence between secrets. He tells me I’m a trouble maker, but he’s smiling. I’m smiling, too. He feels so close to something I can grasp.
Another day comes and it feels the same. But the marine layer refracts the sun in a way that hurts my eyes. I tell him we can work. I tell him we have all the trappings of a relationship.
He rejects me. I am like his sister, he tells me again. He doesn’t want to throw the friendship away. I bring up his hand on my thigh. I bring up the kiss.
“Look at you. You’re wearing braces. The side of your head is shaved. Have you seen the women I usually date? I date models and athletes!” He says.
I close my lips over my teeth and my brackets feel obstructive and foreign. When he goes home, I tell myself I will give myself a day to grieve the daydreams I had been spinning in rose-colored thread. He promises to be my wingman. I tell him about a boy in my life drawing class who has lips I want to bite.
I marry the boy in class instead.
It’s been ten years and I’m married. My best friend is recovering from an abusive relationship. We talk about the expectations her ex had for her, we talk about how she was incapable of following his rubric. She sounds sad and small. I hate it, because her joy is something bright and beautiful.
Her heart is like mine; full of sea-deep love. It is hard to reach the bottom of it. It keeps going.
Sometimes, her sadness turns to anger. It’s a welcome change after so long of being caught in someone else’s tide.
We’re talking one day and I pull out some tarot cards for myself. When I read the message in the cards, though, they seem to be for her. The card that represents her ex stares me down. He disapproves of the message I pass on to her. Good. That means she needs to hear it.
We parse through the cards and she shares a deep sadness that he could not love her for all that she was and all that she wasn’t. I can hear in her voice the frustration in retrospect of being unable to fit into the ideal he’d crafted for her.
That’s when I tell her that she’s not a failure for not contorting her body to squeeze into a box he’d made for her.
Sure, the box may be shaped like her, it may even be her favorite color, or be filled with all sorts of creature comforts that she likes, but a box is still a box. It still limits her. It still is forcing her to be artificially small for someone else’s comfort.
It’s one of the rare moments of clarity I have from time to time; when all of my own aches and traumas crystallize into an understanding I didn’t know I’d internalized. It feels good to say it to her, and it feels good to hear it come out of my own mouth. It feels good because I am also used to trying to make myself small for the comfort of other people.
Speak less, laugh quieter, dress this way, have these interests, get rid of those ones. Every day is a constant series of checks and balances to see if the me I am portraying is the one that is acceptable to the people around me. I see the evidence of everyone else doing the same thing.
Women who claim they're too old for pink and purple hair. Teenagers apologizing for their love of a certain type of music, or their fixation on a hobby of theirs. My clients asking if a look they want to try for their hair is a good one for them.
It strikes me as silly.
In a world where so many of us are trying so hard to make it through every day, why should we apologize for our joy? If our happiness doesn’t come at the expense of someone else’s, why should we be ashamed of it? If our understanding of the world around us has protected us and brought us to where we are today, why should we try to make our own unique flavor more palatable to someone who would never like it anyway?
Is it not better to simply find the people who love us for what we are and aren’t?
It’s not easy. It’s scary and vulnerable. It opens us up to pain that is sometimes worse than it was before. It’s easy to cope with rejection when it’s not the real us they are rejecting.
But when we find the people who love us, and I do mean truly love us, it is the warmest comfort there is.

The Dominican Republic hides a secret. Many think it's just beaches, but it's much more. This island nation boasts stunning national parks that cover 25% of its land. These parks show off diverse ecosystems from lush rainforests to pristine beaches. They offer a chance to see rare wildlife and breathtaking views. As a travel writer who's explored the Dominican Republic for years, I've seen these parks firsthand. I've hiked through Los Haitises, snorkeled in La Caleta, and marveled at the caves in Cueva de las Maravillas. Each park has its own charm and wonders. Ready to discover the natural beauty of National Parks in Dominican Republic? Let's explore. Key Takeaways - The Dominican Republic has diverse national parks covering 25% of its land, including coastal, underwater, and mountain areas. - Popular parks include Cotubanamá, Los Haitises, La Caleta Underwater Park, and Valle Nuevo, offering activities like hiking, snorkeling, and birdwatching. - Best time to visit is December to April, with park entry fees around $15 per person and guided tours available. - Visitors should pack essentials like sunscreen, water, and comfortable shoes, and follow park rules to protect the environment. - Many hotels and resorts are located near national parks, with options ranging from budget-friendly to high-end accommodations. Parque Nacional del Este (Cotubanamá) Parque Nacional del Este, now known as Cotubanamá, sits on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic. This park blends land and sea, offering a mix of forests, beaches, and coral reefs. Visitors can drive from Punta Cana on a scenic road to reach this natural wonder. The park boasts thick greenery, calm lagoons, and many animals. Saona Island, a popular spot within the park, draws tourists with its white sand and clear waters. Cotubanamá National Park guards a rich variety of plants and animals. Its diverse landscapes include dry forests, mangroves, and coastal areas. The park also holds important Taíno sites, giving glimpses into the island's past. Guests can explore caves with ancient art, hike through lush trails, or snorkel in vibrant reefs. This blend of nature and history makes Cotubanamá a must-visit for those seeking Dominican beauty. Los Haitises National Park Moving from the coastal beauty of Parque Nacional del Este, we find another gem in the Dominican Republic's crown. Los Haitises National Park stands out with its unique landscape and rich biodiversity. This park covers 631 square kilometers in the northwest region, established on June 3, 1976. Its name, "Los Haitises," means "hilly land" in the Taino language, aptly describing its rugged terrain. Los Haitises boasts an array of natural wonders. Visitors marvel at its towering cliffs, lush mangroves, and intricate cave systems. The park's karst formations create a stunning backdrop for outdoor adventures. Bird lovers flock here to spot 110 of the 270 bird species found in the country. Sacred Taino caves with ancient paintings offer a glimpse into the island's rich history. Many Punta Cana hotels organize excursions to this natural wonderland, making it easy for tourists to explore its beauty. Los Tres Ojos Nature Park Los Tres Ojos Nature Park sits in Santo Domingo Este, offering a unique glimpse into the Dominican Republic's natural wonders. This hidden gem boasts three stunning underground lakes, or "eyes," that captivate visitors with their crystal-clear waters. Pescadero, Mexico Real Estate: A Growing Investment Opportunity in a Coastal Paradise
Tumblr media

Pescadero, Mexico Real Estate: A Rich Agricultural History
Pescadero is a small and unknown mass-travel town on the Pacific Ocean of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur and an agricultural hub. Initially created by Jesuit missionaries in 1724, this little-known place has gradually grown into a rather promising area for real estate development for those who desire silence, fresh air, and scenery.
It also belongs to the category of popular tourist attractions. From beachfront homes and investments to elegant villas, Pescadero, Mexico, Real Estate has emerged as a potential holiday destination and a residential area.
Most towns are still pervasively agricultural; agriculture is the foundation of Pescadero's transformation to modernity.
At the start of the 18th century, the Jesuit padres offered religious, social, and administrative organizations that observed the rich soil and massive water channels from the mountains, making the region an ideal place for developing as a significant agricultural production center.
The Jesuits took advantage of the aquifer, which supplied water underground. This water was used to nurture crops and cultivate farmland, making the region a food basket for neighboring establishments.
Farming has continuously been an essential part of Pescadero even to date. Today, you can witness great plains of chili and basil, which play a crucial role in making this region one of the most productive in the country.
Due to its moderate climate, relatively low temperatures, and the effect of ocean proximity, these crops can indeed grow. Hence, you get the bang of cultivated agricultural fields against arid, exposed coastal regions.
But it isn't just an agricultural hub—over recent years, people have flocked to the region because of its beautiful landscape and laid-back attitude.
A Coastal Retreat with Proximity to Tourist Hotspots
With several other land features and tourist attractions in Baja California Sur nearby, Pescadero remains one of the attraction's favorites.
Only an hour's drive north of Cabo San Lucas or ten minutes from the artistic town of Todos Santos, Pescadero offers serenity without isolation.
Cabo San Lucas is one of Baja's most popular destinations, featuring a thriving nightlife, new hotel chains, fishing and marine activities, the new marina, and many more. At the same time, Todos Santos has an artsy village, galleries, restaurants, art festivals, and the like.
This central position makes Pescadero particularly desirable for those who want to escape a larger city's small and crowded atmosphere but still be near such places. This is not surprising given the importance placed on Quality of life, and anything that comes with it is much sought after.
Pescadero remained a secret for a while, but nowadays, many families are interested in the real estate properties being offered in this town.
Whether the client wants to live in the countryside with beautiful farmlands around it or wants a new stylish villa that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, Pescadero has every listing.
Ocean-View Properties
A distinctive aspect of the community is the large number of houses with an ocean view of Pescadero.
Prospects can see areas with magnificent sea views of the Pacific Ocean on the Coast and Sites, and potential buyers can purchase spacious territories for the same prices as the coastal plots. Most are situated on pretty steep hillsides, and each homesite offers panoramic ocean views and the spectacular landscape of the Baja Peninsula.
These oceanfront lots are desirable because many homebuyers want to build new homes or develop second homes, such as beach cottages or small hotels that benefit from the island's expanding tourism sector.
Since Pescadero is surrounded by beautiful scenery and experiences fairly good weather every day and night, people have been pushed to own holiday homes or use them for short-term rentals, which has been a good business for those who invest in that.
Luxurious Villas and Private Residences
More recently, new villas and private houses with clear elements of modern Mexican architecture have been built. Many of these homes boast intricate designs like Mexican tiles, finely crafted furniture, and sundial murals that depict the culture of the Mexican community.
Almost all properties are created with an emphasis on that all-important outside space, with large terraces, astonishing infinity pools, and impressive gardens, all enjoying the excellent Mediterranean climate all year round.
For those who seek solitude and anonymity, big houses boast solitude and seclusion and can be nestled right in the greens of Pescadero, often surrounded by rolling farms. These private residences are perfect for those who want to escape the noise of the city while being surrounded by the stunning nature and attractions of Baja California Sur.
Agricultural Properties
Pescadero also offers the chance to purchase farmland for people who want to invest in farming or buyers who love to be associated with sustainable living.
Due to its being primarily an agricultural state, there is still ample space to cultivate everything from vegetables to herbs and flowers.
Many investors are looking into visiting farmer activities where farming and hospitality are interwoven to give visitors an experience of how agriculture is conducted.
The Allure of Pescadero's Lifestyle
In addition to its real estate portfolio, Pescadero may be most unique as a place to live. She said it is a community where people live relaxed, amid nature, and with their fellow citizens.
Most places in the region are fluently developed and adaptable; therefore, they are ideal for retirement, working from home, or even as a place for a comfortable family environment.
Beaches near the area, including the Playa Los Cerritos, are ideal for surfing, swimming, or sunbathing near the beach.
Anyone interested in adventure can hike to some of the several trails in the region, practice surfing, or visit any of the wildlife reserves. Further, Pescadero lies astride the Tropic of Cancer, so the regional climate is temperate, with ocean air helping to economize on temperatures during the summer season.
Why Invest in Pescadero Real Estate?
Pescadero is at the right age to enjoy real estate growth since it is surrounded by scenic beauty, agricultural land, and nearby famous tourist attraction centers from the Mexican side and international countries. Right now, the islands are still significantly cheaper than, for instance, Cabo San Lucas, so it is still possible to buy property before the prices rise even higher.
Furthermore, the demand for vacation lets and environmentally conscious products brought the possibility of long-term sustainable development to the progressive community of Pescadero.
