I’ll be at your game tonight! Just me, though. Your dad is out with some of his buddies.

“Shit,” Hoshiumi cursed, sitting in the locker room and getting ready for the next game when he got a text from his mother. He sat down on the bench and crouched over his phone, giving the message a quick thumbs up that would definitely make her annoyed.

“Is there something wrong?” Ushijima asked, him and Kageyama looking at the shorter man curiously.

“I just found out my mom is coming to the game, but my girlfriend is also here and they haven’t met yet,” he grumbled, switching apps to message you.

No time to explain but you’ll probably meet my mom after the game.

You were watching a Schweiden Adlers game for the nth time, decked out in Hoshiumi merch. He’s your boyfriend, after all, it’s only right that everyone knows who you’re there for. When you saw the message from your boyfriend, you took in a sharp breath, but quickly had to focus back on the court as the players came walking out and the cheers roared. You’re meeting his mom for the first time like this? Hoshiumi loved his mom, she needed to approve of you.

Hoshiumi tried not to think of how he had to introduce you to his mom completely unprepared and instead focused on the game at hand. And he did so quite successfully, only taking about two points to get really into it like usual.

So as Hoshiumi scored a point with a particularly impressive spike and flexed his arms to the audience with a cheer, both you and his mother got out of your seats to scream his name. Then you both consequently looked at each other before bursting into soft laughs. There were only about three seats between you, who would have thought?

“Y/n?” she asked with a knowing smile. “I wasn’t sure you would be here.” All she got from her son was a thumbs up, after all.

“That’s me, it’s so nice to meet you,” you said back, cheeks flushing lightly at the unexpected meeting. You ended up asking some people to shuffle over so you could sit together, cheering for the same man who had never smiled brighter than when he saw you two side by side. He couldn’t help but chuckle a little, shaking his head as he realised you were quite similar. What was there not to approve of?

You both love him.

a/n: hi anon!!! apologies for the late response (i’ve been vacationing before school starts back EW), and thank you for the request (i was at disney for a day so that was my inspiration)! i’ve also actually never written for hoshiumi, so i hope this is to your liking!

Disneyland lied when they said it was the happiest place on earth.

With the heat index at 41°C, you thought you were going to die from heat exhaustion. No matter how much water you drank the day prior, you felt yourself growing fainter by the minute.

“Koraiiiiii,” you whined as you walked through the park to the next ride, “can you buy me a water?”

Hoshiumi cut his eyes up at you, a playful scowl contorting his face. “This is why I told you to bring a water bottle!” He’d been so excited to come visit the park, nothing was going to stop this day—not even your slow death from the heat.

“I did, but could you get me a cold one? Please? I’m dying right now.” You put on your best puppy eyes, your lip jutting out for extra emphasis. He grimaced, trying to stay strong and look away from you.

He then sighed, knowing he lost this fight. With an overly dramatic eye roll, he walked to the nearest stand to buy you a water, grumbling, “I knew we were gonna end up spending $100 on water. I’d much rather buy a lightsaber, but noooo…” Ignoring him, you tried taking a picture of the castle, but your phone didn’t seem to do it justice. You frowned, unhappy with the pics, and quickly deleted all the ones you took.

Upon his return, you smiled at the two water bottles he held. “Thank youuu,” you sang happily with a chaste kiss to his cheek before taking a big swig from your new bottle.

“Yeah, yeah,” he said, his blush blending in with the slight sunburn on his cheeks, “Okay! Now it’s time to go ride—“

“Excuse me?”

You both turned to see a smiling cast member holding a camera, and Hoshiumi let out a quiet, exasperated sigh. He just wanted to ride some of the rides!!!

“I saw you taking a picture of the castle, would you two like a photo together in front of it?”

Your eyes lit up at the idea—you and Hoshiumi didn’t have many pictures together, so you wanted one that was special. Even though you were sweaty and overheated, you agreed, “I would love it!”

After the photographer placed you both in the best angle with the castle perfectly behind, she called, “Say cheese!” On cue, Hoshiumi flashed his winning, slightly crooked, smile that still made you giddy. His confident, yet cheeky, eyes gave him the boyish charm that you adore.

The photographer was pleased with the result, so she then added, “Now a silly one!”

Without thinking about it, you reached your arm over, resting it right on his head, as if using him as an arm rest. You looked to the camera with a shit-eating grin. An immediate half-annoyed, half-amused expression crossed Hoshiumi’s face as he met your eyes, before you both started laughing. You were the only one able to tease him about his height without any repercussions; he knew—coming from you—that it was all in good fun. His only scolds came halfheartedly when he joked, “So rude!” with a gentle push.

When the photographer showed you the photos, you noticed your eyes were closed in the silly picture when it was taken. Before you could ask for another, though, you looked at them one more time.

Upon closer examination, you noticed, unbeknownst to you at that time, how Hoshiumi looked up at you. In one specific picture, he had a cheeky smile that was full of laughter as he gazed up at you. He was taking in all your features, with the thin sheen of sweat that gave you a slight glow. Seeing the hearts in his eyes, you felt a blush creep on your face. You knew that look in his eye, the love radiating from the picture. He didn’t need to say the words, “I love you;” his eyes did it for him.

It was perfect timing—a picture captured of him falling in love with you once again.

“And how exactly can I get these pictures?”

Beaming at the new photos in your camera roll, your mind was completely distracted from the heat that prickled at your skin. Maybe Disneyland was the happiest place on Earth…

You were getting ready to post the pictures at the same time as you and Hoshiumi finally reached the line for your favorite ride—it would’ve been his first time riding it!

Until you heard the young attendant snicker and ask, “Ya sure you’re tall enough to ride this, kiddo?”

You just sighed when you heard Hoshiumi’s red-hot, “What did you just say?”

… It was gonna be a long day.

@virtualstrangerpanda and I were trying to classify the different schools (based on how academically competitive and prestigious they were) and the presence of these two in otherwise "smart" schools really threw us in for the loop. And thus, the somehow "academically selected" duo was formed. By coincidence, they have white-ish hair, so Lev and Osamu also fit right in, making a group of 4.

But the real question is: who would win in a game out of the "academically selected" and the idiot quartet from karasuno?

Your daughter meets your boyfriend Hoshiumi, and he tries to get her into volleyball, for my Parenting event<3

On your first date with Hoshiumi, you nervously told him you have a daughter, expecting him to be hesitant about dating you after that. But Hoshiumi nodded and seemed concentrated. “I see. So I have to impress her to date you?” he had asked.

The way your heart fluttered, one might think you had a heart condition. Alas, you were just falling for him already.

When the time came to meet your daughter, Hoshiumi looked more nervous than he was for your first date, kissing your lips sweetly when you let him into your little house and whispering “She liked volleyball, right?”

“Not yet,” you whispered back, patting him on the back to make him walk further. Your daughter, about 10 years old, stood dramatically in the living room, tapping her foot while looking him up and down the second he entered.

“I thought volleyball players were tall,” she said, ruthless as ever.

“Not even a hi first?!” you scolded but blinked when Hoshiumi chuckled.

“They are, makes me look extra cool when I win.”

Your daughter hummed, slightly impressed with the response before moving to the garden where you had set up for a little picnic. Hoshiumi was happy you would be outside, as he thought he might impress with some volleyball skills.

You three thoroughly enjoyed the lunch, and watching these two people get along made you swoon.

So after having a bite of food and going over the normal conversation, happy that your daughter seemed to open up to having him around, Hoshiumi got up off the blanket and picked up a volleyball he had seen lying off to the side (totally not because you placed it there for him earlier).

“Want to do some passes?” he asked her eagerly, glancing at you to find your soft encouraging smile. “You too, babe.”

“Yuck. Babe.” Your daughter got up as well and stood some distance away while Hoshiumi held out his hand and helped you up, having to stop himself from engaging in too much PDA.

The man softly served it towards you, and then you did the same for your daughter, only to gasp as she did her best attempt at a spike back to your boyfriend. Yet again, he impressed you as he smirked and received it perfectly. You clapped excitedly before turning to scold the young girl, and just as you realised she actually looked like she was enjoying herself, her face turned to surprise at the same time as you heard glass shatter behind you.

Perhaps your daughter was not so impressed by his volleyball skills after he ruined the piknik setup with the float serve you didn’t catch, but she sure was impressed by how much fun he was to be around.

author note—OMG, so i accidentally deleted it, but someone sent in an ask about how there aren't that many hoshiumi fics so i felt the need to write one!!! for the people (and for me). synopsis—there's nothing better, nor more cliche than reuniting with an old flame in the cold, pouring rain. content—timeskip!hoshiumi, profanity, intentional lowercase, mentions of being stabbed (used in similes), ends in angst. word count—514

the rain was loud, deafening even.

yet, a part of you was thankful.

thankful you couldn't hear your own heart shatter.

"[name]?" he called out, "are you cold?"

it had only been a couple years, but he looked different.

"i'm okay."

his hair was now short, yet he had grown taller.

it felt like someone stabbed you right in the abdomen, not bothering to be kind enough to finish you off, but rather to make you suffer in pain until you eventually die of blood loss.

it's not like he returned with someone new, but the fact that he returned as someone you could hardly recognize was enough.

but of course, his heart was still the same. he was still the same.

perhaps that made it worse.

hoshiumi unzipped his drenched jacket and held it out to you as an offering.

"i don't want it."

“it's cold,” he stated.

you ignore his words.

"why are you back?"

"to visit family," he says as if the answer is obvious.

"why are you deciding only now, after two years, to come visit family?"

"i visit all the time," he looks away for a second, unable to look you in the eyes.

"i just don't visit you."

you wouldn't think that it'd be possible to get your heart broken twice by the same person before its even fixed, yet here you were.

“did you just intend on never seeing me again?” you say louder.

“it's not that—i just couldn’t.”

"korai, i thought we were friends." your voice breaks as you try to put your feelings together in simple words.

two years was not enough to forgive him. to forget him.

you wanted his name to sound foreign to you, but you couldn't help but say it with familiarity.

almost as if you never stopped saying it.

"[name], i thought we were more." he says, a pain slipping into his previously steady voice

if the rain wasn't so loud, the silence would've killed you.

"i got a haircut." he choses to change the subject.

"i see that, it suits you."

"i thought you said you liked my long hair."

"i didn't like your hair. i just liked you."

only for a second, hoshiumi doesn't know what to say.

"it's cold." seems to be the only thing he can think of.

"so why are you just standing in the rain without an umbrella?" you almost smile at the situation.

"i didn't plan on it, it just happened." he pauses before adding, "why are you standing on the beach while it's raining?"

"i don't know, do you want me to leave?"

"no." he shakes his head, "do you want me to leave?"

without thinking, you shrug.

"maybe."

for once, he doesn't say anything. he just nods his head and turns around. and without another word nor question, he's gone.

and it's only now that you start to feel regret for letting him go.

it's only now that you're alone on the sandy, wet beach that you realize, it is indeed cold.
