The night is young as they would say .. and yes it is .. so at  2:23am of the next day, the 29th,  it is still in time for the DAY of the 28th .. though there have been many reactions to the manner in which I have been mentioning my days and dates here .. many feeling I am not doing it right .. 

If I have to write for the DAY of the day , within the time frame of the day .. then it is quite simple .. mention the day and date and all is well within the Ef WORLD .. BUT when the DAY of the day has passed the midnight hour, I mention 2 dates .. the one for which the day of the DAY is being written, and mention also that when the DAY is being written it has passed the midnight hour and on to the next day, else the timing that I give shall confuse the reader .. for the timing when the midnight has passed, shall reflect the next day .. hence ..  

Assertion in the lives of the many are an essential ingredient for the functioning of living .. many of the living feel or have asserted that they know without fault, that the assertion of the one they are employed for , is quite literally a waste of time , or they are unaware of the doings of the employed .. 

NO .. 

The employer with his or her checks and balances does find out and needs to find out the fault and immediately confront and correct .. 

Eg., 

cctv cameras and staff that man them all day long 24 hrs in 4 shifts .. security at the gates and homes that maintain regimen 24 hrs in 4 shifts .. are employed to keep vigil .. make attendance and in and out movements with details of names and purpose on attendance sheets .. sheets which the employer checks before resigning for the night .. checks too at odd hours when unexpectedly through the cctv ap., on your phone you can discover personally what movements occur .. and a quick questioning to the staff manning property, keeps them attentive to the fact that they are being watched .. 

ASSERTION .. ladies and gentlemen of the Ef .. the essential ingredient of living .. never understood .. never misunderstood  .. never stood .. 

and when the defaulter is caught .. OUT ! out of the gates of the job .. find another place buddy .. warned several times, and when disobedience takes place often enough .. they must find another place where disobedience can be tolerated .. or not ..

The luxury of unknown disposition is a luxury, until the roof falls upon you  !!

Be in discipline  .. assertion be the norm .. the essential ingredient .. for the living in the lives of those that be employed for the job .. employed .. !!

Let me tell y’all a story

Not a lot of you are from India, and even fewer are from North India I think, so you will be unaware of Jamia Millia Islamia.

JMI is a government university, founded by freedom fighters with a long and storied history of fighting for social justice.

In recent years, specifically during and after COVID, Jamia’s admin has cracked down on student organisations, protests, or even just gatherings in general. Police never used to be allowed at campus unless it was an emergency but the new norm is that police surround the campus before a major festival or at the slightest hint of dissent.

In 2019, the government passed the Citizenship Amendment Act, an act that was targeting Muslim communities and driving them out. Protests erupted all over the country, and of course at Jamia.

That year there was an unprecedented level of police brutality at the campus. Students were beaten black and blue, university buildings were broken into and trashed, and hostel-residing students were all but prohibited from leaving at all out of fear of their safety. Delhi Police has not yet taken accountability for this.

Last December was the 5 year anniversary of that incident. Jamias chapter of SFI (Students Federation of India) organised a demonstration, to demand accountability from Delhi police.

On the 9th of February, 2025, SFI once again organised a protest. A peaceful, sit-in protest, this time because Admin had threatened students with show-cause notices for their participation in the December event. Students said it was wrong, it was unconstitutional, to threaten students for demanding justice, for exercising their rights.

The sit in protest continues. On day two, guards began getting more aggressive with students and fights were breaking out. On day three, police surrounded the campus where the protest was happening, armed and ready. At 5am on day four, where the number of students sitting for “the night shift” was lowest, they stormed in and detained 14 students.

For almost the rest of the day no one had any idea where these students were. None were reachable, there was no contact. Later they’d been returned, and we’d found out that they’d all been split up and sent to different stations, and had only been let go in the evening.

The protest was renewed, this time with the added cause of demanding justice for their friends.

Jamia retaliated by suspending several students including the SFI President, on made up charges including “behaving in a manner which is unbecoming of a university student” a claim which is laughably and intentionally vague.

The most recent (as of 15th February 2025) horrible things admin has done, is to reveal the personal details of select students who were found to be in the protest. They released their full names, departments and majors, student ID numbers, photos, affiliated organisations, emails, and even their phone numbers and home addresses.

The notice was soon taken down, but photos and videos had already gone viral. These students were being harassed, all while Jamia did nothing and in fact facilitated this.

Slowly, the student organisations of departments within the university, as well as the student organisations of other universities across India are showing their support for the students.

I encourage all of you to look into this. I know it’s not as big as a lot of the world’s issues right now, but it’s important to me. This is a fight for the right to express opinion, for the right to demand justice, for the right to come to class without fear of being retaliated against for exercising our rights.

Privilege is a complicated term and honestly, a tricky one to give a proper definition to. In my opinion, it is that complicated but invisible side of life that shapes our experiences and the opportunities we get in ways that sometimes, we might not even notice. My journey in Guelph in the past few years has given me a clearer understanding of what privilege truly means to me. I am an international student from India who moved to Canada 3.5 years ago.

When I first moved here as an international student, life felt very different. Afterall, I had to make my own home away from home and like many international students, I lived in a shared house, worked a part time job, tried to balance part time with schoolwork and constantly missed my family. However, everything changed when coincidentally, my family moved here a year later. Now, I live in my own house here in Guelph, drive my own car and enjoy my mom’s home-cooked meals everyday. I do sometimes forget to appreciate these privileges that I have but there are moments when I realize how blessed I am as compared to other international students around me who are still dealing with daily struggles of their lives while missing their families who are miles away from them.  And now when I think about all this, I believe that I have started to understand the true meaning of privilege better. Being ‘privileged’ is not about having everything you want, it is about the support your family gives you, the opportunities you create for yourself and last but not the least, the peace that comes along with all that.   

Like I mentioned in my first blog, I grew up in Delhi. A megacity where being surrounded by nature or experiencing fresh air in the middle of the day was a ‘privilege’ I was devoid of. Still, my parents always tried their best to take us on trips where we could experience the stillness of a river, beauty of a sunset, and peace and quiet of the mountains. Even though these moments were short lived, but they were more than what others living in Delhi could experience. Those moments created a special place in my memory without me even realizing it. And this made me understand the fact the sometimes, the way we connect with and interpret nature depends on our circumstances. People who live in small towns or areas with more outdoor activities will always have a different way of interpreting nature as compared to people living in cities like Delhi because they have a consistent access to natural spaces. Also, privilege like the way my parents gave me helped me to somewhere build my connection with nature, but at the same time, I also understand that others from urban, immigrant, or low-income backgrounds may lack that.

This is why I believe that that the focus of nature interpretation should also shift towards inclusion and set a goal of making nature more accessible for everyone no matter what background they come from. And it can all start with taking steps as small as making nature a part of our daily conversations, reducing the costs of transportation or sharing a ride to public parks.

Having privilege doesn’t have to come with feelings of guilt; instead, it should stir the feelings of gratitude and empathy, bringing forward a reminder that it can be used to help others connect with nature in meaningful ways.
