“Am I…am I in trouble or something, Professor…?”
Professor McGonagall’s lips thinned and she looked at you over the rim of her glasses. She folded her hands together neatly where they rested on her desk before speaking. “Not for now, no. Relax a bit, dear. The law states that you’re innocent until proven guilty.”
“That’s not- that doesn’t really make me less nervous.”
The professor opened her mouth to speak again when a chime alerted her to an incoming floo call.
With a wave of her wand, the flames flared green and a genial-looking man stepped out of the fireplace. He brushed soot off of his robes and grinned brightly as soon as he caught sight of the professor.
“Minerva! Lovely to see you again. I’m afraid Quincy isn’t going to make it. Corbett is sick, poor thing, so he’s staying home with him today,” the man gushed, evidently quite close with the professor.
“Oh, send them both my well wishes, Hez, dear. Anyway, this is the student you asked to see, Y/n L/n,” she motioned towards you.
The man gave you a cheery grin—far too cheerful for this early in the morning—and held out his hand for you to shake. “A pleasure to meet you, Mx. L/n. I’m Auror Hezekiah Ackerly. I’d just like to ask you a few questions if that’s alright?”
You dubiously shook his outstretched hand, a bit put off by his bright grin that never seemed to dim. “Sure.”
“Wonderful!” the Auror pulled the second office guest chair closer and sat down across from you. “Let’s get the easy questions out of the way. Do you have many friends? Or maybe a small, close-knit group of people you regularly hang out with?”
Your eyebrows furrowed. The fuck kind of question was this?
“Uh, I guess a close-knit group?”
Auror Ackerly summoned a notebook and quill, writing quickly. “Who belongs to this group?”
Seriously, this felt more like being at a psychiatrist’s office than being questioned by a government official.
“Er, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger? And sometimes Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood?”
Seriously, what was going on?
“And do you have any…romantic relationships? Any troubles or issues there?”
Your eyes narrow. “What’re you playing at?”
“Cormac McLaggen was found dead in the Forbidden Forest this morning,” Professor McGonagall cut to the chase, interrupting Auror Ackerly. “You were the last known person to have spoken to him, and several of your peers attest that they heard an argument break out between the two of you last night after dinner.”
Your eyebrows shot up and your jaw dropped. “Dead? Wh- how?”
“That’s what we at the Ministry would like to know,” Auror Ackerly interjected smoothly. “You’re not in trouble, Mx. L/n, but I am here to escort you to the Ministry for questioning.”
Your jaw dropped.
They thought you did this?
~~~
You sat at a table, alone in some room deep inside the Ministry building.
You huffed, folding yet another paper crane from the stack of sticky notes Ackerly had oh-so-thoughtfully left for you after your interrogation.
You set the finished bird on the table, the small pile of origami cranes you’ve made while waiting slowly getting larger.
Peeling off another sticky note, you started folding another when a nice-looking man in well-pressed robes entered the barren room and stopped in front of your table. He looked down at you with mild bafflement.
“L/n, I presume?”
“That’d be me,” you mumbled, adding your newest crane to the pile.
The man smiled gently before waving a hand over your paper birds and enchanting them to fly.
You tried to hide your awe as you look up at the cranes that floated and soared around the room.
The man smiled at your reaction. “It’s quite nice to finally meet you, Mx. L/n. You’ve been the topic of many a discussion today.”
“I’d imagine so, yes,” you said dryly. “Not many teenagers accused of murder coming through the department, huh?”
He grinned. “Not really, no.”
The man pulled out the other chair at the table, sitting down across from you and rifling through the thick manila folder he held.
“Are you here to interrogate me some more?” You asked suspiciously. “Ask Ackerly, man. I already told him everything I know.”
He laughed. “No, I’m not here to interrogate you. I’m your lawyer, Mx. L/n.”
You blink. “I don’t have a lawyer. My family can’t afford that.”
“You always have the right to an attorney, Mx. L/n,” he said kindly as he held out his hand to you. “Octavian Foxglove, Esquire.”
“Y/n L/n, but you already knew that,” you greet, shaking his hand.
He smiled again.
He was a very smiley man.
He laid out the manila folder and turned it around on the table so that you would be able to see it.
The first paper on top was a copy of your school records, with a bright red PRIMARY SUSPECT stamped over the top of your picture.
You grimaced.
Your lawyer nodded sympathetically. “There’s a photo underneath that page, by the way. Supposedly the last photo we have of McLaggen still alive and, uh…it’s not looking great for you, in all honesty.”
You moved your school records page aside, finding a standard moving photograph paperclipped to the inside of the file.
It showed, quite clearly, you speaking with Cormac McLaggen in a hallway. Picture-Cormac angrily threw his arms up in the air and silently yelled at picture-you, while your body language in the photo loudly screamed ‘furious & upset’.
He was right. It wasn’t a great look.
“And there’s only one thing I need you to- oh, where is it?” He dug through the inside pockets of his robes, procuring a pen. “Aha! The next page has a simple contract. I just need a signature stating that you either accept me as your public defender, or would like to request someone else from the Ministry to handle your case.”
You nod, flipping the page to the contract he indicated. Mr. Foxglove smiled again and held the pen out to you.
As soon as your fingers made contact with the pen, you vanished.
~~~
You stumbled blindly, almost falling to the floor before a hand caught your elbow and steadied you.
“Easy, careful.”
You whirled around, surprised to see a different man in Mr. Foxglove’s clothes. He held his hands up in a non-threatening manner.
“Woah- slow down, kid. You’re fine.”
“Who the hell are you?”
“I’m- was your lawyer,” he shrugged and smiled. “Augustus Rookwood, at your service.”
It dawned on you. “It was a portkey,” you breathed. “The pen. It was a portkey, wasn’t it?”
“Clever kid,” he sounded impressed. “Now c’mon. The boss wants to see you.”
You followed the man without complaint; half out of curiosity, half out of the knowledge that Augustus Rookwood was an Azkaban escapee charged with at least forty counts of first degree murder.
Pretty simple choice.
It looked like you were in a wealthy aristocrat’s house. Er, mansion, more accurately. The hallway you were walking down was old and stuffy and dusty, and the overall aura of Dark magic that permeated the very air of the house sent shivers down your spine.
Rookwood led you down a flight of rickety stairs to the first floor, and then down a narrow hallway and into a study, where he left you without another word.
The study itself was old. Everything was coated in a thick layer of dust except for the pristine and polished bureau right in the center.
(Obviously, ‘the boss’ was sitting at this desk.)
((Villains tend to be predictable like that.))
However, you were surprised to see that ‘the boss’ was-
“Riddle?”
He looked up at the sound of your voice, a wide grin spreading across his face as he hurriedly got up from his desk.
“Y/n, darling, hello!” He gushed, practically skipping over towards you before pulling you into a very uncomfortable hug. “Sweetheart- oh, I’m so glad you’ve made it here safely! Rookwood really is my only competent assistant; I must be sure to give him a raise.”
You froze up at the unexpected hug, your arms remaining stiffly by your sides. He let go after a moment, but remained just a bit too close for comfort.
“Hopefully the Ministry didn’t give you too hard of a time,” he rubbed the back of his neck with a guilty grin. “I promise Ackerly’s a good man. When he’s, y’know, in control of his own body.”
Your eyes widen and you take a step back. “What?”
“Just a little Imperius, darling, no worries. Did you like your gift?”
You blinked, thrown off by his rapid changes in subjects. “Uh- gift?”
He smiled proudly. “McLaggen? He won’t bother you anymore, see?”
All the color drained from your face.
“You killed Cormac?”
He nods, grinning. “Uh-huh. I heard what McLaggen said to you last night in the hall, and I don’t like when other people look at what’s mine.”
“Yours?” You repeat, your lip curling in disgust. “You’d better not be referring to me.”
Mattheo paused, looking at you in confusion. “What else would I be talking about?”
You scoff in shock, shaking your head. “Yeah, nope, I’m out.”
You turned around without further preamble, marching out of the room and towards the front door that you’d passed earlier. Mattheo laughed and followed you out of the study at a leisurely pace, seemingly unworried.
“Where are you going to go, darling? As far as the general public is concerned, you’re on the run after brutally murdering a classmate. You’re Wanted with a capital W, sweetheart.”
“I’ll figure it out,” you snarled, storming towards the front door.
“Y/n…” He warned, drawing his wand and pointing it at you. “Get back here. Now.”
“Fuck off.” You spat over your shoulder, not sparing him another glance.
That was clearly not the thing to say. As if in slow motion, you heard a dreaded word fall from his lips.
“Crucio!”
You were struck with pain that was so overwhelming, so blinding, so agonizing, that you were sure you were going to die.
You were only half aware that you’d fallen to the floor at some point as wave after wave of unbearable pain crashed over you. You could feel your bones creaking and grinding together, your skin splitting apart only to knit itself back together just to be torn apart again, like you were some fucked up wixen version of fucking Prometheus.
You were only vaguely aware that you were speaking, pleading. Pleading not for the Unforgivable to be lifted, but for him to just end it, end you, entirely.
“K-kill me! Kill m-me…please!” You begged, blood trailing down from the corner of your mouth and smeared across your chin. You must’ve bit your tongue hard for it to bleed like that, and the sting from that wound while you speak is just too overwhelming when combined with the pain from the Cruciatus Curse.
Then all at once, it stops.
You gasp for air, your entire body trembling and numb as you lay sprawled across the floor like a marionette with its strings cut.
Mattheo kneeled down by your side and cupped your face in his hands with a kind of tender gentleness that felt deeply wrong coming from him.
“See, I’m doing this because you’re not listening to me, sweetheart. How else am I supposed to show you that trying to leave me is what you shouldn’t do?” He cooed softly, gently wiping the blood from your chin with the sleeve of his shirt.
You flinched back at his touch. Your body—still wracked with uncontrollable quivers and trembles—tried in vain to crawl away from him.
“Oh no, honey- hey, honey- I promise it’s all over, okay? You were so so good for me. But you see now that you’ve got to stay with me, right?”
Your jaw quivered and your still-stinging tongue felt thick in your mouth, yet you managed to spit vicious hatred towards him.
“G-go to hell.”
A flurry of emotions crossed his face: surprise, anger, guilt, and disappointment; all of which were topped by the underlying aura of pure sadistic glee that exuded from him.
“Oh? Do you need another lesson or two before you learn?” He sighed and shook his head patronizingly. “Very well then, darling. Crucio!”

~Once a coward, always a coward~
Ominis Gaunt x MC *With a hint of pining Puffskein Dunkein* SLIGHT NSFW in this part!
The door slammed behind you with a reverberating clash as you stepped out onto the cobbled stones that lined the street in front of your home. You were angry. Infuriated. You stormed along the pathway, turning to move into the alley way that lead to the Leaky Cauldron on Charing Cross Road, the old brickwork of the building calming your racing heart a little as it came into view. You did so love the ancient little pub.
Stepping through the threshold, you took a sobering glance around the room at the clientele, an eclectic range of witches and wizards old and young, (mostly old, if you were being honest) gossiping amongst their groups and laughing jovially. More than once, you witnessed sprays of liquid sloshing out of silver goblets and splattering over the tables (and people). The sight caused you to chuckle, momentarily forgetting your fury. You soured once more, thinking back not fifteen minutes ago to the heated argument that you'd had with your obstinate husband.
Ominis wasn't usually the type to become angry, especially not toward you. And especially not over something as god-damned insignificant as an owl from Duncan Hobhouse.
You scoffed incredulously to yourself, pulling up your long, green skirts in order to slide comfortably into a quiet booth in the corner of the pub. Resting your chin in the palm of your hand, your eyes scanned around the stuffy room again. The fingers on your free hand tapped against the wood , betraying your inner irritation. You thought of Ominis again and to the cause of your argument with a grimace.
*Earlier that day*
He stepped through the door of your lovely London apartment that morning, after quite a gruelling night shift at the Ministry, making his way through to your earthy and open kitchen. He could smell the strong scent of fresh basil leaves, knowing that you loved to grow the little herb and dot them about the place.
You smiled as you saw him enter the room, moving into his space gently to lean up and press a soft kiss against his sparsely freckled cheek.
A sigh left his lips, and he wound his arms around your waist with a smile, resting his face into the crook of your neck and inhaled your floral scent. He pressed his lips against the pulse at your throat, and your heart rate increased rapidly.
"Rough night, my love?"
Ominis pulled his mouth away from your skin reluctantly, and you took his cool hand in yours, leading him over to sit at the little table in the corner of your kitchen. He sat down, another sigh falling from him as he ran his long fingers through his fair hair.
Ominis worked in the Muggle Laison Office, ensuring that any official business of the Wizarding World that may or may not affect the day to day life of muggles passed by smoothly and without issue. As of late, he'd reluctantly taken over a few jobs that had required him to work overnight, hence the early arrival that morning.
"You have no idea. Fenwick bloody Taylorson somehow managed to reveal something quite confidential to some lower members of the muggle parliament whilst rip-roaringly drunk on a drink that they call 'gin'. Obviously, he neglected to obliviate the muggles, and I was called in to hunt them down again and perform the task! How he's still employed in our office I shall never understand."
You squeezed his hand sympatetically, a chuckle falling from your lips as you moved to the stove, the whistling sound of the teapot that sat there drawing your attention away.
"Fenwick is a bit of a dullard, always has been. What on earth is he doing getting drunk with muggles? That's a dangerous combination right there."
You removed the teapot from the heat, hissing slightly when you accidentally brushed your thumb over the burning steel. Ominis snapped his head in your direction, sensitive hearing alerting him to the sound of your pain.
"Did you burn yourself, darling? Are you alright?"
You smiled over at the exhausted man, affection flooding through your veins at his attentiveness. You continued to pour the hot water over a tea strainer into your favourite teacups, a beautiful little set that you'd received from Poppy Sweeting as a wedding gift. They were a white china adorned with tiny little golden snidgets, swirls of green and gold leaf patterning swirling around the birds and ending at the handle.
"You worry too much, Ominis. I only grazed the pot."
The blonde wizard scoffed a little from his seat, undoing the buttons of his forest green waistcoat as you carefully placed his earl grey tea down in front of him.
"My dear, given your track record and penchant for reckless behaviour, I do believe that I am quite entitled to "worry too much" about you. Remind me again what it is that you'll be undertaking at work in the morning?"
You laughed then, not even able to counter his 'reckless' comment. Given your affinity with magical creatures during your more turbulent years at Hogwarts, you had chosen to work with the Beasts Division of the Ministry. It seemed to fit. You never had fancied working inside a stuffy office, much preferring the great outdoors, not afraid to get your hands dirty.
"We need to help our female Graphorn give birth to her calf and then introduce the father to its new baby. Come now, Ominis, that hardly counts as reckless!"
You took a sip of your tea with a sigh, relishing in the citrus tang that hit your tongue. Ominis tutted stubbornly.
"Oh yes, I'm sure that dealing with one of the Wizarding Worlds most dangerous creatures, whilst in the throws of giving birth, will be as safe as gathering some honking daffodils!"
Your face shone with amusement as you pulled out your ebony wand, flicking it to the window to open the curtains there, letting in some of the morning suns rays. The warm beams of light hit your face, and you closed your eyes, feeling quite content.
"You know that I'm always careful, darling. I know what I'm doing."
You looked to your husband again, who was now leaning back against the wall, also basking in the warmth of the sunlight. Your heart flipped a somersault. Gods, he was beautiful.
"I know that you are perfectly capable at your job, MC. However, I do sometimes wish that all you had to deal with was something as simple as a puffskein."
A light flickered in your brain at his mention of the little fluffy creatures, eyes widening a fraction. You turned to pull open one of the kitchen drawers whilst Ominis was busy taking a sip of his tea. He could hear the rustling of papers and clinking of the various bric-a-brac that were muddled together in there.
"Aha! There it is."
You pulled out a neatly folded bit of parchment and opened it up, stepping towards the table and sliding it across the wooden surface so that Ominis could read it. Ominis placed his teacup back on its saucer and picked up his wand, preparing to go over the contents of the letter.
"It's from Duncan Hobhouse! You must remember him?"
Those were the words that started it all.
You continued to speak, failing to notice the rising iritation in your husband, his wand glowing red at its tip as he ran it over the parchment with a little more force than usual.
"He's asked if I'd meet with him tonight at The Leaky Cauldon for a catch-up. He actually works at a different branch of the Beast's division in Wales, believe it or not! Though I never took him as someone who'd end up working with creatures, if I'm honest."
You finished wiping down one of your side counters as you spoke before noticing Ominis' silence. The letter wasn't particularly long, so he should have finished reading it by now.
"You declined, I presume?"
He spoke with such a tone of finality that it halted you where you stood. You looked at him incredulously, trying to understand the meaning behind his assumption. He was frowning down at the parchment, fingers gripping into it so tightly it seemed as if he were holding back from ripping it up into tiny pieces.
"I did not decline, actually. It's been a good long while since I've seen him, and we were good friends at Hogwarts."
Ominis was glaring in your direction now, seemingly just as surprised at your answer as you were of his own. He crumpled the letter up in his palm and pointed his wand at its edge, muttering incendio. The parchment lit up in flames, disintegrating into nothing.
"You're not going, MC. I shan't allow it. Why on earth would you want to acquiesce a request to spend time with Puffskein bloody Dunkein!?"
It was your turn to frown now, your eyes narrowing in ire. Firstly, it irked you to no end that Ominis presumed that he had any say over whom you could meet and speak with.
Secondly, you had always hated that god-awful nickname that poor Duncan had to endure as a student. Yes the poor lad was known to be a bit introverted and afraid to step out of his comfort zones, and perhaps his fear of Puffskeins was a little bit silly, but you found the bullying to be completely unwarranted.
This was the reason that you had agreed to assist the boy when he'd approached you in the Defence against the Dark Arts tower that day. You'd completed the task at hand (not without a few stings left over from all of the bloody Devils Snare that lined the walls in that place) and handed over the largest Tentacula leaf that you'd ever come across. Of course, you'd also advised him with a smile that he should ignore all of the idiots that made fun of him in the halls, and perhaps it wouldn't hurt for him to learn to be a little braver. He'd thanked you profusely, face noticeably a shade darker, and then ran off to Merlin knows where.
You were brought out of your memories by a short, cold laugh from Ominis.
"I wonder if he's still as much of a coward as he used to be? If there was ever a reason for you to meet up with him again, it would be to find out that bit of gossip!"
You slapped the washcloth you were holding down onto the countertop, the reverberation causing the drying dishes there to clink together loudly. The sudden noise startled Ominis into silence, a sharp tension forming in the room as you glared at your husband dangerously.
"Ominis Gaunt."
Your voice was short and dangerous. You really disliked this side of the blonde man and only used his full name when you were particularly upset with him.
"Do you honestly still hold such animosity towards a fellow that you haven't even seen in over ten years? I know that you had some sort of issue with him at school, but I would like to remind you that he was, in fact, a good friend of mine. And I shan't listen to you slander him."
You folded your arms over your chest, awaiting his response. You did hope that he would relent in his behaviour. However, the part of you that knew your stubborn husband all too well was dubious about this.
Ominis scoffed loudly, shifting in his seat. He flattened his palms against the table to push himself into a standing position. He could feel the pressure of his wedding band digging into his finger as he did so. The frown had deepened into a scowl, his gaze boring into you from across the room.
"And what exactly, pray tell, do you believe was Hobhouse's reasoning for requesting MY wife's company this evening? And do not tell me that he simply wishes to "catch up" with you, as you stated. We both know that his intentions are below the board."
As much as a small flame ignited in you at the possessive way in which Ominis proclaimed you as his, you seethed with indignation at his underlying implications and stomped over to the tall man, jabbing a finger into his well toned chest.
"Just what are you implying, darling? Come now, don't be cryptic about it. You know that I have no patience for dancing around the issue. Say what it is you mean to say, for goodness sake!"
Your finger continued to press at his front, anger still evident all across your features. Ominis couldn't see your anger, but by Merlin, he could feel it. He brought a hand up to wrap around your petite wrist that was accosting his sternum, halting its movement. He dragged your hand up to his mouth and pressed his lips against the pad of your forefinger softly. It was barely a touch, but your traitorous body shivered involuntarily.
"MC, you must know that Hobhouse fancied you back in Hogwarts?"
He ghosted his mouth over your middle finger, and you tried to remain focused on your anger.
"You're being ridiculous, Ominis. Even if that were remotely true, why would that be an issue now? Do you think I'm going to take one look at the felllow and fall madly in love with him? Merlins beard! Prepare me a thestral and carriage, we're to elope at midnight!"
Ominis' face hardened, and he gripped at your waist tightly with his free hand. Even the hypothetical talk of Dunkein laying his lecherous eyes on his wife was enough to turn him into a ball of possessive rage. He leaned down to mouth a kiss at the thin skin along your wrist, the tip of his tongue running wetly across your quickening pulse. The hand at your waist pulled at your hips until they were pressed firmly against his, where you could feel his growing desire for you, pushing against the junction of your thigh.
You swallowed deeply, trying to will away your own arousal that showed its tell-tale signs in your abdomen. There was no way you were letting him fuck his way out of your bad books.
Taking a step away from the solid press of Ominis' form, no easy task due to his vice grip, you took a sobering breath and spoke firmly up at him.
"I've already replied and accepted Duncans request, Ominis. I'm heading out to meet him this evening at around seven. I would appreciate your understanding, at the very least."

Israeli football fans clash with protesters in Amsterdam
Amsterdam city council member says ‘Maccabi hooligans’ instigated violence and attacked Palestinian supporters. Israeli football fans have clashed with apparent pro-Palestinian protesters before and after a Europa League football match between their team Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax in Amsterdam. The clashes took place outside the Johan Cruyff Arena on Thursday night, the city’s main arena and Ajax Amsterdam’s home stadium, as well as in other areas. Ajax won the match 5-0 after leading 3-0 at halftime. Reporting from Amsterdam, Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen said the clashes were the result of a buildup in tensions over a few days. Hundreds of supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv came to Amsterdam, held a very vocal rally in the main square before the incident, waving Israeli flags, and also took down a Palestinian flag,” she said. On Thursday, police had said on social media that they were being particularly vigilant in the wake of politically charged incidents, including the tearing down of a Palestinian flag from a building. Social media videos captured the reported incident, showing Israeli fans shouting slogans while an individual was taking the flag down. Before the game, videos showed crowds of Maccabi supporters chanting anti-Arab slogans. In one video, Israeli supporters were heard singing: “Let the IDF win, and f*** the Arabs!,” referring to the Israeli army’s offensive on Gaza. Another video captured a fan screaming: “F*** you terrorists, Sinwar die, everybody die,” in reference to the Hamas leader who was killed last month. The Israeli fans instigated the violence after arriving in the city and attacking Palestinian supporters before the match, an Amsterdam city council member said. “They began attacking houses of people in Amsterdam with Palestinian flags, so that’s actually where the violence started,” Councilman Jazie Veldhuyzen told Al Jazeera on Friday. “As a reaction, Amsterdammers mobilised themselves and countered the attacks that started on Wednesday by the Maccabi hooligans.” Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said 10 Israelis were injured. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office did not clarify what led to what it called a “very violent incident against Israeli citizens”. Netanyahu said, in a Friday statement issued by his office, that he “views the horrifying incident with utmost gravity and demands that the Dutch government and security forces take vigorous and swift action against the rioters, and ensure the safety of our citizens”. Netanyahu also ordered the country’s spy agency to draw up a plan to prevent violence at events abroad. “I have instructed the head of the Mossad [David Barnea] and other officials to prepare our courses of action, our alert system and our organisation for a new situation,” he said in a video statement during a meeting at the Foreign Ministry to oversee the evacuation of Israelis from Amsterdam. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it called “anti-Arab chants” and apparent attacks on the Palestinian flag. In a statement posted on X on Friday, it called on the Dutch government to “conduct an immediate investigation into the instigators of these disturbances and to protect Palestinians and Arabs residing in the Netherlands”. Amsterdam resident and activist Mo Kotesh told Al Jazeera Israeli fans attacked innocent people on the streets, property and taxi drivers on Wednesday and took down a Palestinian flag. Kotesh, of the Palestinian community in the Netherlands, said that they went to an area near the central Dam Square – as instructed by the municipality – to hold a peaceful demonstration on the day of the match. He said he saw locals trying to counter the violence started against them and their properties by Israeli fans. Israeli “hooligans” chanted songs swearing at Arabs, saying, “There are no schools in Gaza because there are no children left.’” Israeli political commentator Ori Goldberg told Al Jazeera the incident showed that the Israeli narrative had taken over Europe.
"The fact that Israeli fans riot in the middle of Amsterdam, sing racist songs and climb the walls of homes to tear down Palestinian flags … is part of the Israeli condition at the moment: A complete detachment between actions and consequences,” he said. On Friday, Al Jazeera’s Vaessen said the capital was calm. Arrests and injuries Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema had banned a pro-Palestinian demonstration amid concerns about tensions between protesters and supporters of the Israeli football club. About 600 police were deployed after rioting started between pro-Palestinian supporters and Maccabi fans, Al Jazeera’s Vaessen reported, adding that five people were briefly taken to hospital with light injuries. Police said on Friday that 62 people were arrested. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators had tried to reach the stadium, Vaessen said. According to police, the fans left the stadium without incident, but several clashes in the city centre were reported during the night. Veldhuyzen, the council member, said, “The mayor says the police did act, but I would say they acted not at the right moments.” He told Al Jazeera: “They acted only to protect the Maccabi hooligans when Amsterdammers stood up to defend their own people and defend their own houses. And this is when the police showed up to protect the Maccabi fans when they ran away after attacking people.” Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said he followed the news of the rioting with “horror”, adding that “the perpetrators will be tracked down and prosecuted”. In a post on Friday on social media platform X, Schoof said, “Completely unacceptable anti-Semitic attacks on Israelis. I am in close contact with all those involved.” UEFA condemnation Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar spoke to his Dutch counterpart, Caspar Veldkamp, and requested the Dutch government’s assistance in securing the departure of fans from hotels to the airport in Amsterdam. Saar “emphasised the seriousness with which Israel views the widespread violent attacks against its citizens throughout Amsterdam”, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said. Goldberg, the Israeli political commentator, said Israel’s reaction to the clashes reflected a “complete rejection of the notion that actions have consequences” given the Israeli fans’ actions in Amsterdam. The Israeli club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, was founded in 1906 in Jaffa, now part of Tel Aviv. It is languishing at the bottom of the Europa League table this season, at position 35 of 36. Its next game in the Europa League on November 28 will be against Turkish team Besiktas, based in Istanbul. However, following a decision by the Turkish authorities, the match will be played in a “neutral venue”. In a statement on Friday, the Palestine Football Association (PFA) said it was “gravely concerned by the sequence of violent events in Amsterdam”, specifically the “deplorable incitement to violence, anti-Palestinian racism, and Islamophobia expressed by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans”. The PFA called on football’s governing bodies FIFA and UEFA “to address the normalization of genocidal, racist, and Islamophobic rhetoric among Israeli football supporters and to implement concrete measures to combat this hostility”. European body UEFA earlier condemned the “acts of violence” before and after the match. “We trust that the relevant authorities will identify and charge as many of those responsible for such actions as possible,” it said in a statement.

YON, France (AP) — A French court ruled on Monday that the American man accused of sexually assaulting a Pennsylvania college student in 2013 and later sending her a Facebook message that said, “So I raped you,” can be extradited to the United States.
Ian Cleary, 31, of Saratoga, California, was detained in April in the city of Metz in northeastern France after a three-year search. He has been held in custody pending extradition proceedings since his arrest.
The Court of Appeal in Metz said that Cleary can be extradited. When asked if he wished to be extradited or not, in line with French law, Cleary refused, prosecutors said in a statement Monday. His refusal may delay the extradition process, but it won't stop it.
The ruling is final. Cleary's case is now the responsibility of the French Justice Ministry, which must prepare and submit the extradition order for the French prime minister. While he awaits the prime minister's signature, Cleary remains detained in France.
Justice Ministry officials didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Cleary had been the subject of an international search since authorities in Pennsylvania issued a 2021 felony warrant in the case weeks after an Associated Press story detailed the reluctance of local prosecutors to pursue campus sex crimes.
The arrest warrant accuses Cleary of stalking an 18-year-old Gettysburg College student at a party, sneaking into her dorm and sexually assaulting her while she texted friends for help. He was a 20-year-old Gettysburg student at the time, but didn't return to campus.
The Gettysburg accuser, Shannon Keeler, had a rape exam done the same day she was assaulted in 2013. She gathered witnesses and evidence and spent years urging officials to file charges. She went to authorities again in 2021 after discovering the Facebook messages that seemed to come from Cleary’s account.
“So I raped you,” the sender had written in a string of messages.
“I’ll never do it to anyone ever again.”
“I need to hear your voice.”
“I’ll pray for you.”
The AP doesn't typically identify sexual assault victims without their permission, which Keeler has granted. The accuser’s lawyer in Pennsylvania, reached on Monday, declined to comment on the development.
According to the June 2021 warrant, police verified that the Facebook account used to send the messages belonged to Ian Cleary. Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett, who filed it, declined to comment on developments when reached Monday.
After leaving Gettysburg, Cleary earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Santa Clara University, near his family home in California, worked for Tesla, and then moved to France for several years, according to his website, which describes his self-published medieval fiction.
Keeler, originally from Moorestown, New Jersey, stayed on to graduate from Gettysburg and help lead the women’s lacrosse team to a national title.
By 2023, two years after the warrant was filed, Keeler and her lawyers wondered how he was avoiding capture in the age of digital tracking. The U.S. Marshals Service thought he was likely overseas and on the move, even as he was the subject of an Interpol alert called a red notice.
Across the U.S., very few campus rapes are prosecuted, both because victims fear going to police and prosecutors hesitate to bring cases that can be hard to win, the AP investigation found.
Keeler, when the warrant was issued, said she was grateful, but knew it only happened “because I went public with my story, which no survivor should have to do in order to obtain justice.”

Part of stolen radioactive material found in São Paulo
Police in São Paulo have recovered a part of radioactive material stolen on June 30, in the east of Brazil’s biggest city. Last week, the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN), affiliated with the Science and Technology Ministry, issued a public alert following the theft, warning that the improper handling of the stolen material could pose significant health risks.
According to Medical Armazenagem Logística e Distribuição Ltda, the radioactive material was separated into five clearly marked lead cylinders and was stored inside a company pickup truck parked outside an employee’s home, in the São Paulo neighborhood of São Mateus.
The recovered material was found on Saturday in a battery shop in a nearby neighborhood. The establishment was isolated and radiation levels were tested, but the locale was found to be safe. One of the storage cylinders had been located a day before at a chop shop, where stolen cars are dismantled to be sold for parts. The clandestine business was also tested extensively for high levels of radiation, but was deemed safe.

Warning: Smut, minors DNI
Not another Lupin Fanfic!
Chapter One
This was it. Your last year of being a Hogwarts student. Fumbling around, throwing your robes on, you looked into the mirror and sighed.
Leaving Hogwarts was something you were dreading. Your home life was a mess. To put it nicely, you parents were pieces of shit. All they give a damn about is drinking. You can’t even think back to a time when everything was alright. Hell, just last week before leaving, you dad had blacked your moms eyes and the neighbors had alerted the police. It could have stopped there, but your mother refused to press charges, just like the last couple of times.
On the bright side you had received a decent amount of job offers from the ministry. So at least you could get to work as soon as you’re graduated, hopefully finding a place you could finally call your own.
The only issue is the ministry was all over the place recently. With Voldemort returning, so much propaganda was being put out that Harry was just lying out of his ass. Seeing all the crazy shit happen first hand, you knew what the truth was. All of it just frustrated you. We are at the beginning of our demise and no one seems to give a shit.
So, as you finished putting your hair up, you ran out the door making sure not to be late to your first class.
Running down the hall you heard someone call your name.
“Hey y/n!” As you look behind your shoulder, Fred was rushing through the halls to walk with you. “
“You’re headed to potions right?” He asked.
“Sadly yes.” you responded, “Hopefully Snape isn’t such a pain in the arse this year,” You pinched the bridge of your nose, “I don’t think I can deal with him much longer.”
“Y/n come on now, this is Snape we are talking about, Merlin could strike him and he’d still be a dick afterwards.” Fred laughed.
…
For being your first day, it kind of dragged. Potions was insufferable as always, Snape was going on about what he expects from his students in his monotone voice, basically saying he’s not taking any shit this year.
Draco had threw his mandrake at Neville causing him to faint in Herbology. That little weasel would get his one day and you couldn’t wait to see it.
Then there was McGonagall’s class. Luckily for you, it always come naturally, it was always an interesting subject in your opinion. So you didn’t sweat when she had assigned a 2 page essay.
Now, half way through your day, seated in the great hall for lunch, you started to feel overwhelmed. Everyone was catching up with their friends from last year. Because of the noise it was hard to keep up with the conversation in front of you.
“… Y/N! “
Well that snapped you back.
You turned to look at Hermione. “Huh? What did I miss?” You cocked your head to the side, waiting for her to respond.
“Are you’re okay? You don’t seem like your normal self.” She asked.
“It’s just the noise. I’ve dealt with enough screaming over summer break.” You groaned.
Ron spoke up, “Y/N, my mother already said you are welcome anytime. So just come bunk with us next break.”
Thank god for the Weaslys. Ever since you had met Fred and George in your first year, they had become your second family.
“Honestly Ron, I think I’m going to take you up on that offer.” You smiled.
You looked around, noticing someone was missing.
“Hey guys, where’s Harry?”
“Oh, Harry’s still with the Dark Arts Professor. Apparently he knew his parents and had some questions.” Hermione stated.
Next thing you knew, everyone started to get up and make their way to their next class.
You stood up from your seat, “Well it looks like I’ll catch up with you guys later, I’m off to defense against the dark arts.”
The three of you said goodbye and made your way out of the great hall.
…
Walking into the classroom, you noticed the smell of warm tea and chocolate. It smelled so much better than when Lockhart had occupied the classroom. It had always smelled of cheap cologne and aftershave when he had taught. It was so pungent you could swear it burned all of the hairs in your nose.
You quickly took you seat and waited for everyone to gather in and do the same. Suddenly you see a very tall man run down the from office in a hurry.
“Hello everyone! I’m Professor Lupin, I will be your defense against the dark arts professor. I look forward to teaching you everything you need to protect yourself, if the time ever called on it.” He smiled.
He was handsome and you took notice to it very quickly. From the way he looked to how he spoke, you were instantly infatuated. For the entirety of the class you couldn’t take your eyes off of him with his messy hair and bright smile. You could have swore he had caught you staring a few times.
After class you made your way to the second-floor girls lavatory.
During your third year you had stumbled into this one by accident and never really used the main one again. The main reason, no one ever used it. The only downside being Moaning Myrtle, but after a few months of going back and forth with her, she had just decided to give you your privacy.
As you drew your bath, you could help but think back to your last class. Professor Lupin was something. It didn’t even embarrass you that you were already picturing yourself under this man. All you could do is just blush and let your mind wonder.
You climbed in the huge tub and let your thoughts take a hold of you, slipping your hand down to your core.
“Maybe one day.” You sighed as you sunk down into your bath.
….
A few months have gone by. You’ve had no problem settling into your classes. This was your 7th year after all , so it was easy to get into the routine you had known so well.
Homework on the other hand was rully. Between Snape and McGonagall, essays where piling up. Transformations was still your favorite class but just the sheer amount of work was stressing you out.
Potions on the other hand has never been your strong suit, just today alone you had mixed up your notes and brewed Dizziness Draught.
Now this wouldn’t of been a problem but you had gotten a wif and fell right on your arse. Snape being the asshole he is, gave you a weeks detention. But the rest of your day went rather well.
DADA was your last class of the day. It always went quickly, or at least to it did to you. You always made sure to finish your assignments early just so you could sit and watch Professor Lupin grade papers. The way his arms would flex while moving his quill made you get lost in your thought. What you wouldn’t give to have his hands around your neck, calling you filthy things in your ear.
As if he could read what was on your mind, he looked up and smiled at you.
….
Later that night, you began walking down to the Snapes classroom. You decided to leave early so you wouldn’t be late. Knowing him, he would tack on another week if you were.
Counting the tiles beneath your feet as you walked, your mind started to wonder to a place it had visited often. Your favorite past time had been fantasizing about you and Lupin. In your mind the scenes played over and over again. Him bending you over his desk, thrusting into at a speed you couldn’t fathom.
As your turned the corner, you collided with something very tall and sturdy, knocking you on your behind and out of your thoughts.
“Y/L/N! I’m so sorry!”
As you looked up, your face became as red the hair on a Weaslys head.
Lupin was standing right in front of you with his hand out.
“It’s alright, that’s what I get for not paying attention.” You said, taking his hand and pulling yourself up.
“I was actually looking for you.”
You’re ears perked up at this. Why was
this devilishly handsome man looking for you.
“It looks like you’ll be spending your detention with me as Professor Snape has had something to attend to this evening.”
Without thinking you quipped “I hope he’s having the stick removed from his arse.” Your face felt like it was set ablaze. “Professor I apologize for saying that, please don’t take any house-“
“You know Ms. Y/L/N, if only that was the case, It would serve all of us well. He is rather uptight.” He interrupted you with a chuckle.
“I’m glad the students aren’t the only ones who feel that way.” You smiled.
You were shocked with how comfortable he seemed to be around you. He definitely wasn’t like the other professors.
“Now let’s hurry along, it seems we have already cut into your detention by 10 minutes .”
The both of you made your way to the classroom. As you walked in, you took a deep breath smelling the warm aromas around you. This is so much better than spending your time in the dungeons scrubing cauldrons.
Lupin spun around on his heals “So what exactly did you receive detention for?”
“I had gotten my notes mixed up and completely brewed the wrong potion.”
“A simple mistake it seems, I wouldn’t except a good girl like you to do anything to drastic.”
That definitely got your attention. Immediately your face turned to the brightest red from the praise.
Noticing your blush and quickly correcting himself. “You are a star student after all, your teachers speak highly of you.” With that he spun back around and made his way to his desk.
You took a seat in the first role waiting for instructions.
“Well I would have you help me grade some of the other students papers, but it seems I had finished them earlier…” he trailed off.
“Well since I have nothing for you to do, would you some tea?” He asked.
“Sure, tea would be lovely.” You responded.
Never would you have thought, you’d be having tea after hours with Professor Lupin. This was a god send.
You watched as he whisked his wand. A cup was sat in front of you, along with some sugar and milk.
You happy made your cup to your liking and began to drink.
“So, this is your last year at the castle, what are you plans afterwards?” He smiled, trying to make small talk.
You tilted your head up to look at him
“Well if I’m being honest, I really don’t know. The ministry has sent me a few job offers but I just don’t really like the direction it’s headed.” You shrugged.
“That’s completely understandable. Do you have anything else in mind?”
If this was completely different circumstances you would have said, ‘WELL I would like to spend the rest of my days under you for 24 hrs a day if you’d let me.’ But sadly this wasn’t the time nor place.
So you shook the thoughts out of your head and sighed.
“Honestly Professor, I just want to do something that actually matters, ya know, be the change I want to see.” You huffed
He smiled, “Ms. Y/L/N, you’re a bright witch. I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll become something great.”
You blushed at the compliment and finished the rest of your tea.

Nearly 100 dead as historic rains trigger widespread flooding across parts of Spain
The mountain town of Chiva, west of Valencia, was deluged with 19.33 inches of rain in just eight hours, according to Spain's national meteorological agency.
A devastating flash flood has claimed dozens of lives in Spain's Valencia region after historic, torrential rains submerged roads and towns, authorities report.
youtube
At least 95 lives have been lost, most of them in Valencia, as reported by the town’s Emergency Coordination Center. This rising death toll marks Europe’s worst flooding disaster since 2021, when nearly 200 people died, primarily in Germany.
In an update Wednesday evening, Carlos Mazón, president of the Valencian Government, announced that all rescues had been completed and no additional fatalities reported.
On Wednesday alone, the government conducted nearly 270 rescues—70 by air and 200 on the ground, Mazón stated.
Authorities confirmed that all urban areas are now accessible to emergency services. Since Monday, Valencia's emergency hotline (112) has received nearly 5,000 calls related to the storm, known as DANA, according to the Emergency Coordination Center.
"Together with the Queen, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all families who have lost loved ones," Spain's King Felipe VI said Wednesday at the Gando Spanish Air Force Base in Gran Canaria. "In some cases, families still do not know the fate of their relatives."
The King noted the widespread destruction of infrastructure and personal belongings across the regions of Valencia, Andalusia, and Castilla la Mancha.
"Access to some towns and locations remains challenging," he added. "We still lack a full picture of the extent of the damage and the potential number of victims."
Beginning Monday and continuing into Tuesday, a powerful storm system known locally as a DANA storm surged up Spain's eastern coast. Moisture-laden winds collided with the mountains west of Valencia, unleashing hours of torrential rain over the already saturated region.

Spain's weather agency, AEMET, has issued a red alert for Valencia, a key citrus-producing region, as torrential rains inundated the area.
The video below, recorded by Lucia Beamud in the town of La Torre, depicts dozens of cars either stacked on top of each other or submerged in muddy water. Beamud described the scene as "devastating, absolutely indescribable."
The mountain town of Chiva, located west of Valencia, received an astonishing 19.33 inches of rain in just eight hours, according to AEMET. Of that total, an incredible 13.55 inches fell within just four hours, with 6.5 inches pouring down in a single hour.
Water surged down the mountainsides, swiftly overwhelming rivers and towns with raging floodwaters.
Government officials urged residents to seek higher ground and, if possible, remain on the upper floors of their homes. Footage from Spain’s civil defense showed water rescues being carried out by helicopter.
The storm posed significant challenges for 140 essential workers at the Picassent Penitentiary and the CIS Torre Espioca, which houses over 2,000 inmates, according to the Spanish prison union Acaip-UGT. These employees have been on duty for more than 24 hours, stranded by road closures and blocked access.
Weather Forecast For 45208 - Cincinnati OH:
Footage released by the Spanish Ministry of Defense captures rescue efforts, destroyed roads, and flooded homes in Utiel, one of the regions hardest hit by the flooding.
"Evacuation operations, searches for missing persons, and water removal efforts are set to continue today," the ministry posted on X.
Javier Ballesteros, who recorded the footage below in Utiel, stated on national television that the woman seen in the video "had a dog and cats," describing the situation as "critical" until they were able to get a helicopter to her.
"The woman was pleading for us to call emergency services, but the lines were overwhelmed," Ballesteros said. "The water kept rising, reaching above her waist. She was holding a dog, and we suspect she had several cats that were likely in the bags she was carrying."
Members of the Spanish military emergency unit rescued an elderly couple in the devastated town of Letur in the Castille La Mancha region on Wednesday. Encarna Rivero, 88, and her husband, Jose Tomas, 89, were helped after becoming stranded at a neighbor's home in Albacete.
The severe weather also led to reports of tornadoes and large hail.

Hezbollah fires rockets at Tel Aviv, year after Simhat Torah attack; IDF on alert at Gaza border
Report says troops preparing for possible Hamas rocket fire, attempt to carry out attack on Hebrew calendar anniversary of Oct. 7 atrocities
As Israelis began to mark the beginning of Simhat Torah Wednesday night, several rockets launched by Hezbollah in Lebanon triggered sirens in Tel Aviv and towns across central Israel. The IDF said four rockets were launched in the attack. Two of the launches were intercepted, and one fell in an open area, the military said. The fourth rocket impacted in an undisclosed location. A total of some 135 rockets were launched at Israel throughout the day, according to the IDF. The rocket attacks mostly targeted northern Israel. There were no reported casualties.
IDF pounds Beirut after Hezbollah’s Simhat Torah eve rocket fire at central Israel
State media reports six buildings leveled in strikes on Lebanese capital; one said killed, several hurt in attack targeting office of Hezbollah-linked broadcaster Al-Mayadeen
Lebanon state media reported 17 Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, with six buildings leveled and the vacated offices of a Hezbollah-linked broadcaster hit on Wednesday, after the Lebanese terror group fired rockets at central Israel as the country began marking the Simhat Torah holiday. AFPTV footage showed a massive explosion followed by smaller blasts in the southern suburbs following an Israeli army evacuation warning for the area, where Hezbollah holds sway. The official National News Agency (NNA) reported at least 17 Israeli raids, marking one of the most intensive nights of strikes targeting the area in the past month.
IDF reveals: Six Al Jazeera journalists are Hamas, PIJ terrorists
The exposed journalists are part of Hamas's military wing operating as the vanguard of Hamas's propaganda war against Israel.
The IDF announced on Wednesday that six journalists actively working for Al Jazeera were members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). The IDF says that due to intelligence recovered from the Gaza Strip during military operations, they can reveal that Anas Al-Sharif, Alaa Salama, Hossam Shabat, Ashraf Saraj, Ismail Abu Amr, and Talal Aruki are all affiliated with the military wings of either Hamas or PIJ. Al Jazeera denied these claims in a post to X on Wednesday, calling them "unfounded" and "fabricated." It implied that Israel was using this as cover in order to kill more journalists.
Before flying to Riyadh to push normalization, Blinken stresses chance to end war
After air raid sirens sound during his breakfast in Tel Aviv, US secretary of state underscores need to take advantage of opportunity offered by Sinwar’s death
As he prepared to take off for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Israel to take advantage of the opportunity created by the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and defeating Hamas’s military formations to bring the war to a successful conclusion. “Now is the time to turn those successes into an enduring strategic success. And there are really two things left to do, get the hostages home and bring the war to an end with an understanding of what will follow,” Blinken told reporters at Ben Gurion International Airport.

Bangladesh Faces Heavy Rains, Flooding in Several Districts
Bangladesh Faces Heavy Rains, Flooding in Several Districts
Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued warnings as heavy monsoon rains continue to lash the country, leading to significant flooding in various districts. Authorities report that areas such as Sylhet, Sunamganj, and parts of Dhaka have experienced over 200mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Local government officials are on high alert as the floodwaters disrupt daily life and pose risks to infrastructure. Roads are submerged, making transportation difficult, while many families have been displaced from their homes. Emergency services have been deployed to assist affected residents and provide necessary supplies, including food and medical aid.
Experts predict that the situation may worsen in the coming days, with further rain expected. The BMD urges residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in vulnerable regions.
Government Response and Relief Efforts
In response to the crisis, the government has activated disaster management protocols. Relief teams have been mobilized, and emergency shelters are being set up to accommodate those displaced by the flooding. The Ministry of Disaster Management has also announced plans to provide financial assistance to affected families.
"We are doing everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens during this challenging time," stated a spokesperson for the Ministry.
Residents are advised to stay updated through local news and official announcements for guidance on safety measures and available resources.
Community Support Initiatives
Community organizations are stepping up to support those in need. Local NGOs are coordinating efforts to distribute food, clean water, and hygiene kits to flood-affected families. Volunteer groups are also providing assistance with rescue operations.
In this time of crisis, the spirit of solidarity is evident as many individuals and businesses come forward to lend a helping hand. Donations are being collected, and fundraising events are being organized to support ongoing relief efforts.
Looking Ahead
As the nation grapples with the immediate impacts of the floods, long-term solutions to improve infrastructure and flood management systems are being discussed. Experts emphasize the importance of preparedness in mitigating future disaster risks.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, follow safety protocols, and assist one another as the community rallies together to navigate these challenging circumstances.

AI Cyberattacks Soar: Within a Year, They Will Rise from 10% to 50% of the Total
Cristina González Pitarch, executive of Google’s cybersecurity center team in Málaga, outlines the main cybersecurity challenges in the AI era
An attendee at a cybersecurity conference. (Reuters) By 24/09/2024–18:11
When a plane accident occurs, a detailed investigation is carried out to determine what happened. For this reason, it’s unlikely for the exact same thing to happen again. A similar approach is attempted in cybersecurity attacks. Cybercriminals keep trying, but they will need to work harder: in principle, attacks will no longer be the same.
Cristina González Pitarch worked at Google in Dublin since 2012 and decided to join the Google cybersecurity center in Málaga (Safety Engineering Center) two years ago as the General Director of Google Cloud for the European market. González Pitarch was one of the key speakers at the cybersecurity and AI era conference held today in the Andalusian city.
Artificial intelligence is on the verge of becoming the main security threat. Within a year, AI-driven attacks will rise from 10% to 50%. And in five years? It is hard to make a reliable prediction, but González Pitarch predicts that such attacks may not even exist “if we achieve communication, education, and leverage the advantage we currently have.” “Just as there are many specific types of crimes that no longer exist, we could eliminate many cyberattacks.”

Google admits that there isn’t a single company that is free from vulnerabilities. There will always be some loophole. You can control 20 actions against attacks, but if there’s a door open for the ‘bad guys’, that will be the point of weakness and potential attack. The key, the decisive factor, is how long it takes to fix the problem. “If instead of fixing it in 48 hours, you do it in two, that’s much better,” notes González Pitarch.
“It is essential,” emphasizes the executive of the tech multinational, “to learn to be resilient and always keep in mind how to respond when something happens.” It’s true that each case is very particular. The main issue, she explains, is with suppliers and the supply chain. “You are responsible for your part, but also for what comes through third parties.”
The Google executive knows how important it is to reach the end-user. She offers some basic advice: update applications and change passwords every two to three months. Most importantly: never write them down in a notebook under any circumstances. The best option would be to group them in a password manager that securely creates and stores them.

And there’s more: do not give personal data to third parties and avoid clicking on links that are potentially unsafe or questionable. “In the end, the most important factor is the human element,” she highlights. In recent months, traditional methods of attempting to steal passwords have reemerged: physical letters sent to private homes pretending to be from the Ministry of Finance, asking for tax information. “Protect your data as if it were your wallet,” González Pitarch urges.
AI is set to further revolutionize global cybersecurity. Professionals will be able to spend more time analyzing threats and responding to incidents, rather than monitoring alerts and “false positives” from attacks (most of which aren’t real). Experts spend hours analyzing these threats, but in the end, only about 10% of them are significant.

No Deposit Renting Guide for Singapore Residents
In recent years, no-deposit renting has become more popular in Singapore. This method lets tenants rent without a deposit. It helps avoid the usual large security payments, which are often 1-2 months of rent. With living costs going up, many are looking for affordable rental no-deposit deals.
This guide will explore the different types of deposit-free rent in Singapore. It will help meet the growing demand, as seen by PropertyGuru and other sources. I want to give you key information on how these rentals work, their benefits, and any possible challenges in this changing rental market.
Understanding No Deposit Renting Options
In Singapore, many people find no deposit renting appealing. It's great for those who can't save for a big upfront payment. Landlords outside big property firms often offer more flexibility, not sticking to strict deposit rules.
Initiatives like “Rent Now, Pay Later” make no upfront deposits even better. Real estate companies offer payment plans that help renters manage their money. Knowing about these plans is key for those looking at no deposit options.
It's also important to understand the legal side of no-deposit leases. The Ministry of National Development and the Housing and Development Board have rules. These rules help renters know their rights and duties and help avoid problems.
No deposit renting makes the rental market in Singapore more open. It helps people with different financial situations. By exploring these options, renters can find deals that fit their needs.
Navigating the No Deposit Lease Market in Singapore
Looking for a no deposit lease in Singapore can be both rewarding and challenging. I start by checking out reputable property platforms. These sites specialize in rentals that don't require a deposit. They help me compare and research different options before deciding.
When I look at rental agreements, I make sure they really mean no deposit. I check the contract details for any hidden fees. Spotting these early can avoid future problems.
It's also key to talk openly with landlords or property managers. Discussing what we both expect helps clear up any confusion. Being open and honest builds trust, making the renting process smoother.
Technology makes finding no-deposit rentals easier. Mobile apps for property searches save me time and send me alerts about new listings so I don't miss out.
With these tips, I'm ready to tackle the no-deposit rental market in Singapore. Thanks to careful planning and research, I make choices that fit my needs.
No Deposit Renting: Tips for a Smooth Experience
Starting with deposit-free rent requires preparation and knowledge. Building a good relationship with landlords is key, and clear talks can make the rental process easier.
When applying, show you're reliable by giving references and proof of income. Being a responsible tenant can really help you stand out.
Regular checks on the property are important for a good living space. Knowing who does what helps avoid problems and builds trust. Talking openly about any issues helps too.
Deposit-free rent is appealing because it's affordable and flexible. This lets me look for the perfect home without the need for a big upfront payment. Making smart choices helps me find a great place to rent in Singapore without a deposit.
Conclusion
No deposit renting in Singapore offers big benefits for locals. It's a great way to find housing without a big upfront cost. This is especially helpful for those looking for flexible living options.
More people are choosing no-deposit rentals because they meet changing needs. This lets renters try out different areas without risking a lot of money, making finding a place to live in Singapore more exciting and less risky.

A fire erupted around 3:00 PM today in a senior care home located in the center of Bankya, Bulgaria, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The blaze engulfed an entire floor of the building, sending thick smoke billowing over the city. Emergency services, including three fire brigade teams, responded to the scene promptly.
The Center for Emergency Medical Assistance in Sofia confirmed that a charred body was found at the location, marking the death of one resident. Additionally, two women were affected by smoke inhalation but were examined on site and did not require hospitalization. A man with burns was transported to the "Pirogov" hospital, where he was admitted to the Burns department with 5 percent burns and smoke inhalation. The fire was initially reported at 2:49 PM.
By 6:00 p.m., the situation at the fire site had calmed down. The fire was completely extinguished, and the fire brigades had left the scene, though police cars remained as authorities continued to assess the situation.
The aftermath of the fire was visible on the facade of the three-story building in the center of Bankya, where the blaze had originated. The third floor was still filled with smoke. A pizzeria occupies the ground floor of the building, and according to witnesses, it was the quick actions of the pizzeria staff that helped evacuate people from the building swiftly.
Antoine, one of the employees who assisted in the evacuation, described for BNR the response: "Everything happened very quickly, probably in less than five minutes the fire department was here." He added, "We assisted, of course, along with others who work in the building." He noted that the elderly residents of the home understood the situation and were evacuated in time without any major issues.
Rangel Markov, the mayor of Bankya, told BNR that the facility is privately owned and not affiliated with the municipality or the state. "This home is in a private house; it’s neither municipal nor state-owned. I can't say more; they are licensed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, and we have no further information," he explained. Markov also mentioned that the fire was extinguished quickly, with the firefighters arriving within a few minutes. He added that the deceased individual was an elderly, immobile man.
However, Veselin Kozhuharov, the executive director of the Agency for Social Assistance, revealed that the home was operating illegally without a proper license. He confirmed that an accident had occurred at the facility, resulting in the death of one resident and injuries to others. The Agency has arranged for the relocation of three of the surviving residents to licensed homes for the elderly in Sofia later that evening. "The home is absolutely illegal, it is not licensed. You should inquire with the Agency for the Quality of Social Services for more details," Kozhuharov stated.
Kozhuharov also mentioned that in June, the Agency for the Quality of Social Services conducted an inspection of the facility. Due to a lack of cooperation, the inspection required assistance from the SDIA (Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs). The inspection found that 11 individuals with health problems were living in the facility. The Agency immediately alerted all relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor's Office, about the illegal operation of the facility, which does not qualify as a social service under the law. However, the Agency does not have the authority to shut down operations of companies that operate without a license.
Following the fire, the three surviving women will be relocated to two different homes for the elderly. The Ministry of Social Affairs emphasized that to ensure the quality of social services, private providers are required to be licensed. A list of licensed providers is available on the website of the Agency for the Quality of Social Services.

Cyclone Remal Leaves Trail Of Destruction In Bengal, 2 Dead In Bangladesh
Severe cyclonic storm Remal made landfall between the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, unleashing winds up to 135 kmph. The storm, which struck between Sagar Island and Khepupara near the southwest of Mongla in Bangladesh at 8:30 pm on Sunday, brought torrential rains, flooding homes and farmlands, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
Two people were killed in Bangladesh since the cyclone made landfall last night, said an official from the country's disaster ministry. West Bengal has reported no casualty so far.
Ahead of the storm, disaster management authorities and security forces across Bengal and northeastern states were placed on high alert. District administrations in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram were instructed to take precautionary measures to mitigate the impact.
Cyclone Remal disrupted air, rail, and road transportation in Kolkata and southern Bengal. The Eastern and South Eastern Railways cancelled several trains, and the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata suspended flight operations for 21 hours, affecting 394 flights. The airport resumed operations at 9 am today. The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata also halted operations.
In the city's Bibir Bagan area, a wall collapsed due to heavy rain injuring one person. Reports from North and South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts indicated extensive damage to thatched roofs, electric poles, and trees. Low-lying areas near Kolkata experienced severe flooding.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) issued warnings of extremely heavy rainfall across Assam and other northeastern states on May 27 and 28. Orange and Red alerts were issued for various districts, anticipating severe weather conditions. Squally winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, were expected over south Assam and Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya government advised residents to prepare emergency kits, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with weather reports. Tripura's government closed all educational institutions on May 27 and 28 and suspended flight operations on the Kolkata-Agartala route until Monday morning.
Cyclone Remal damaged fragile dwellings, uprooted trees, and toppled electric poles. In the Sundarbans' Gosaba area, one person was injured by debris. Over one lakh people were evacuated from vulnerable areas in West Bengal before the cyclone struck.
The West Bengal government evacuated approximately 1.10 lakh people from coastal and vulnerable regions to cyclone shelters and other safe locations. Evacuations focused on South 24 Parganas, particularly Sagar Island, Sundarbans, and Kakdwip.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to review the storm response, while West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose monitored the situation closely. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged residents to stay indoors, assuring them of governmental support.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has mobilised 15,000 civic employees to manage post-cyclone recovery, including the quick removal of uprooted trees.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intensifying rains and winds in southern Bengal districts. Fourteen National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed across affected districts, including Kolkata. The state government also readied State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams for relief efforts.
Nine disaster relief teams are on standby. The Indian Navy has prepared two ships with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) supplies and medical aid. Specialised diving and flood relief teams are also on standby.
