Writing colors varies, if there is a certain writing color that you would want, please let us know.
Flour sack dish towels are called “flour sack” because they are modeled after the thin cotton bags that flour and grain used to be packed in, which were re-used as towels. The thin cotton yarn and the looser weave make for a towel that’s extra absorbent. You can even air dry your salad greens; the super absorbent nature of flour sack towels makes them great for drying delicate greens. Also, flour sack towels are lint free! Which means no more fuzzies on your wine glasses when you wipe them dry!
Flour sack towels are also softer and significantly larger than a standard kitchen towel….and more towel is always a good thing! You can use these towels for drying, wiping, cleaning, or dusting and they can be used for fun decorations.
Each flour sack kitchen towel measures 28 in. x 29 inches (Product dimensions L x W x H – 28 x 29 x 29 inches). They are 100% cotton, durable and absorbent. These are flat woven towels; they are perfect for cooking or baking and can safely be used around food such as covering dough for rising or as a food strainer. These towels also double as a kind of strainer or cheese cloth; the fine weave means you can strain sauces and broths through a flour sack towel to clarify them. Flour sack kitchen towels are sturdy, highly absorbent, dry quickly, and are designed to stand up to most any cleaning job. The towels easily withstand frequent washings and are made for repeated daily use.
The flour sack kitchen towel is a quality item with versatility and utility, we offer everyday designs and special occasion designs. Our flour sack towels are a great gift idea and very inexpensive!

The Decline of Sears...What Happened?
"As of this week, Sears has filed for bankruptcy. They'll continue existing but that existence is getting smaller and smaller and it's questionable how long they'll last. This video takes a look the company over the years and how they found themselves in this situation. "
Video Source: Company Man
But, lets complement the information and case study presented in the video with the article, written by  History.com
" Sears, Roebuck and Company is a retail giant with 19th-century roots as a mail-order business operating in rural America. Sears grew into one of the nation’s largest corporations, redefining the American shopping experience in the process. Its 130-year history embodies the rise and fall of American consumer culture. Here’s how Sears became an American retail icon. In 1886, Minnesota railway station agent Richard W. Sears bought a shipment of watches that a local jeweler refused to sign for. He established a side business selling the watches to other station agents. Sears quit his railway job a few months later and established the R.W. Sears Watch Company in Minneapolis. He moved the business to Chicago the following year. An ad he had placed in a Chicago newspaper brought watchmaker Alvah C. Roebuck into the business, and by 1893 the successful partnership officially became Sears, Roebuck and Company. Sears and Roebuck quickly expanded the business into a general mail-order catalogue that catered to America’s enormous 19th-century rural population—roughly two-thirds of Americans lived in rural areas in the late 1890s. Local general stores were typically high-priced and offered little selection. The Sears catalogue gave America’s farm families a lot of options at a lower cost and often included delivery. The Sears and Roebuck mail order business quickly took off. The Sears catalogue contained more than 500 pages of merchandise by the late 1890s. Rural Americans could now purchase hundreds of different items—shoes, women’s garments, wagons, fishing tackle, furniture, china, musical instruments, firearms and bicycles—by mail. Chicago clothing manufacturer Julian Rosenwald bought the company in 1895, though Sears remained president. (Roebuck resigned due to poor health.) The company needed capital for its rapidly expanding business. In 1906, Rosenwald and Sears sold stock on the open market. Sears has been publicly owned and traded company ever since. Sears Homes Sears took advantage of new homebuilding materials and construction techniques at the turn of the twentieth century. Between 1908 and 1940, Sears sold 70,000 to 75,000 pre-fab kit homes by mail order. Mass-produced materials lowered manufacturing costs. Consumers could purchase a small bungalow for as little as $450. Sears Modern Homes typically arrived with a detailed instruction manual and two boxcars worth of building materials. Kit homes used drywall, asphalt shingles, and “balloon” style light-frame construction to cut down on the cost of skilled labor and allow for D.I.Y. installation. Due to their high-quality materials and practical design, many Sears homes are still in use. Sears Wish Book The first Sears Christmas Wish Book catalogue came out in 1933. The catalogue contained toys and other holiday gifting merchandise. Items featured in the first catalogue included the popular Miss Pigtails doll, Lionel electric train sets, a Mickey Mouse watch, boxes of chocolate and even live singing canaries. The catalogue, which arrived in mailboxes in late August or early September, soon became a holiday tradition with warm, colorful Christmas scenes decorating the cover. The Wish Book began to diminish in size during the late 1990s and early 2000s, as merchandizing shifted to online purchases. Sears Stores As increasing numbers of Americans moved to cities in the twentieth century, Sears faced the loss of rural consumers. City dwellers with easy access to a variety of stores had little need for huge mail order catalogues. The company responded by opening its first brick and mortar department store in 1925 on Chicago’s West Side. Early Sears department stores typically opened in working class neighborhoods outside of the major city shopping districts. Sears was one of the first department stores to cater to men as well as women by selling tools and hardware. Its merchandise emphasized durability and practicality over fashion, and its store layout allowed customers to select goods without the aid of a clerk. In the 1950s and 1960s, Sears began to shift its focus from urban to suburban markets. The Sears name soon became synonymous with the suburban shopping experience. Their large department stores anchored shopping malls all over the country, and Sears catered to suburban motorists by expanding their automotive services. Sears Tower Sears announced plans to build a new headquarters in downtown Chicago in 1969. At the time, Sears was the largest retailer in the world with approximately 350,000 employees. When it opened in 1973, the 110-story Sears Tower, at 1,454 feet in height, dominated the Chicago skyline as the tallest building in the world—a distinction it held for 25 years. In 2009, the building was renamed Willis Tower after a London-based insurance broker that now leases a portion of the structure. Sears Brands Sears, Roebuck and Company gave birth to several iconic brands over the years. Some of them include: Kenmore Appliances: The brand name first appeared on a sewing machine sold in the Sears catalogue in 1913. Sears introduced the first Kenmore washing machine in 1927 and the first Kenmore vacuum cleaner in 1932. Throughout the 1970s, Sears continued to expand its Kenmore brand to household appliances including refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. Craftsman: Sears acquired the Craftsman trademark and sold its first Craftsman tools in 1927. The brand’s early customers were mostly farmers. Craftsman later branched out into lawnmowers, electronic, portable power tools and even electric razors to serve a growing suburban base. Allstate Insurance: Sears founded Allstate Insurance Company in 1931. Allstate offered low rates on auto insurance to consumers through the Sears mail-order catalogue and later through sales booths in its retail stores. The company became completely independent in 1995 after Sears divested its Allstate stock to shareholders. Discover Card: Sears added financial services to its repertoire in the 1980s. In 1985, the company introduced the Discover Card. It was the first to offer cash rewards to customers based on how much the credit card was used. Discover Card became wildly popular—within four years 20 million people had the card. By the end of the decade, credit operations made up a big part of Sears’ revenue. The company sold off Discover Card and other financial operations in the mid-nineties. Decline Of Sears In 1991, Walmart surpassed Sears as the nation’s largest retailer. Throughout the nineties, Sears faced increasing competition from numerous big-box stores that offered even lower prices than Sears. Big-box retailer Kmart bought Sears in 2004. Wall Street hedge-fund manager Edward Lampert oversaw the merger and became CEO of the newly created Sears Holdings Corporation. Over the next decade and a half, Sears lost half its revenue, laid off nearly 175,000 people and closed dozens of its stores as it battled to keep up with the advance of online retailers. In October 2018, Sears's parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Today, only a small number of Sears stores remain open.

6 Interior Designers Discuss the Design Trends to Embrace in 2019
By Sarah Dawson February 13, 2019
If, like us, you tend to carefully assess your home at the beginning of a new year, looking for ways to spruce up a space or inspiration for a spring project, you’re in luck: according to six designers we spoke with, 2019 brings a variety of chic and refreshing trends worth trying. Here, our experts share the design shifts they’re excited to see take hold in the coming year, from second kitchens to embracing maximalism to a migration toward moodier palettes—and more.
Bringing the outdoors in, and vice versa. “As technology usurps much of our daily lives, and we spend more time working inside, we’re starting to blur the lines between indoors and out. A simple way to accomplish this is by adding plants to our interiors: succulents, air plants, giant palms, and fresh flowers. We’re also opening up the walls from the inside out, moving walls, and adding Nano walls (folding glass walls) and sliding doors that open onto porches, lanais, and patios. There’s also a gravitation toward true outdoor living rooms that are suitable for long conversations and welcome lounging.” —Lucy Penfield of Lucy Interior Design in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Mixing your metals and finishes. “The concept of every finish being the same is over. When you mix your metals in a curated way throughout your space, it doesn’t look like a mistake; it creates a layered look that has character. Your faucet doesn’t have to match your island chandelier or cabinet hardware. Instead, choose no more than three per room. My favorites are nickel, antique brass, and polished chrome.” —Caroline Brackett of Caroline Brackett Studio of Design in Greenville, South Carolina

Saying hello to an extra kitchen. “We’ve all gotten on board with the open concept, and that’s made the kitchen party central. But that also means dishes are piling up in the sink and the stove and oven can heat up the whole room. I’ve started designing homes with a workspace behind the beautiful kitchen. These spaces feature an extra dishwasher, cabinetry, ovens, and an extra sink. A dirty kitchen allows for prep and cleanup to be tucked away while the kitchen is open for your guests to linger.” —Lori Paranjape of Redo Home + Design in Nashville, Tennessee
Welcoming the ombre gradient on walls. “We’ll be seeing a lot less white walls and trim in the coming year. Instead, we’re taking one color and expressing it in five different ways, working our way through a gradient, where the trim, wainscoting, walls, and ceiling are all variants of one color. Think of it as a reinterpretation of the classic ombre.”  —Zoe Feldman of Zoe Feldman Design in Washington, D.C.
Design: Lucy Interior Design
Reusing, repurposing, and salvaging. “Naturally, we are drawn to our history, a story of yesteryear, a connection to something that once was, but now has been repurposed. This is all about that connection to the earth and re-using old and reclaimed wood for furniture, doors, accent walls, and cabinets. We love remaking vintage textiles and worn rugs into lovely pillows, or upholstering a found stool or a French chair. We are all working hard to reduce our footprint and to be mindful of waste. This trend, that’s not fussy and perfect for our busy lives, does just that.” —Lucy Penfield of Lucy Interior Design in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Getting moody with color. “The most noticeable design trend for 2019 is shifting away from rooms that are all white and introducing moody, thought-evoking colors. You are going to start seeing kitchens, foyers, and bathrooms take on a much different look in the next year when it comes to richer color tones. After 10 years of my shop being Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White, I recently painted it Farrow and Ball Railings. It’s a black/blue that makes art and antiques really pop, even more so than on a white wall.” —Shaun Smith of Shaun Smith Home in New Orleans, Louisiana
Design: Zoe Feldman Design
Moving away from traditional kitchen cabinetry. “We’re seeing homeowners opting for built-ins and standalone pieces that have more of a furniture feel in lieu of standard cabinets. Think work tables as islands, open shelving, hanging pots, hoods that are plaster or brass, and paneled appliances. We’re trading in the pure utilitarian nature of kitchens of the past and focusing on a more decorative feel; it’s about time, considering the amount of waking hours we spend in these spaces.” —Zoe Feldman of Zoe Feldman Design in Washington, D.C.
Bringing 80s furniture back. “The trends from the decade of excess have returned, but thankfully we aren’t revisiting all of them. Designers are turning out huge, oversized furniture, like plush sofas and chunky glass tables with a brass bottom. We’re also seeing more textures that shimmer in sequins and velvets. One of my favorite ways to incorporate this trend is with fixtures, like a cool, huge brass and lucite acrylic chandelier. Make this trend work by choosing just one or two pieces to mix into your existing decor and keep your house looking balanced. This is also a great opportunity to scour consignment shops and antique stores for amazing vintage finds. The real thing is often better than the reproduction.” —Tula Summerford of Design by Tula in Raleigh, North Carolina
Design: Shaun Smith Home
Taking it to the max. “There’s a departure from minimalism as its polar opposite, maximalism, takes a stand in the new year with its bold presence of personality. The trend is expressed in an explosion of color, texture, and pattern in the room. Think woven grassy texture living seamlessly with silks and rich velvets while playing on bright colors on everything—from Chintz to Damask prints. Another major key is having juxtaposing periods and style in the same space. For example, if you have a marble or lucite coffee table, think of doing a rustic wood dining table. Maximalism has an emotional and personal quality because you’re ultimately drawing on all the things you love.” —Shaun Smith of Shaun Smith Home in New Orleans, Louisiana
Replacing black and white with brown. “There’s a departure from cooler tones like grey or ‘greige’ in favor of deeper, richer colors, particularly chocolate brown. This earthy palette paired with dark woods allows for a sense of luxury, creating a nearly neutral look that foregoes the need for blacks and whites.” —Zoe Feldman of Zoe Feldman Design in Washington, D.C.
Design: Caroline Brackett Studio of Design. Photography: Erin Comerford
Bringing back your grandmother’s florals. “Floral fabrics and wallpaper are everywhere in a fresh, new way. This is a classic, British layered look with a mix of other patterns like stripes and small-scale prints. En suite bedrooms are featuring window treatments, wallpaper, and fabric all in the same pattern. A great way to make this trend work is to pull colors in the wallpaper into the rest of the room.” —Caroline Brackett of Caroline Brackett Studio of Design in Greenville, South Carolina
Embracing mismatched patterns. “As was evident on fashion runways in Alice & Olivia and Gucci, we’re seeing this trend of mismatching five different prints pop up in furniture design, too. When mismatching on your own, it all comes down to scale. If you have a large-scale floral print on a pillow or the back of a chair, choose a coordinating color fabric in a geometric small print or a stripe.” —Tula Summerford of Design by Tula in Raleigh, North Carolina

We just heard that CB2 is closing in Minneapolis. We suspected it but it's going to hurt the design world for a while. Sure we can order online, but there is nothing like running into the store to check out some new items in person. // This pillow stack is a mash of retailers from CB2 to West Elm to TJMaxx. Things get collected and then recombined for a variety of photoshoots. This was an editorial about bedding and a mix of patterns and colors. // I just spent time looking at vintage home decor from Rogers, Minnesota for a new editorial. I'm excited to share some of our new finds as we create more new work in the coming months. The Convention Connection - Two by Two
Tumblr media
What originally started out as a one shot for @iwantthedean has turned into so much more. This series is over a year in the making and there is only part left after this. I hope you all have enjoyed this ride as much as I have.
Catch up on The Convention Connection
Summary: A baby shower is thrown for the expectant parents.
Word Count: 1915
Warnings: Excessive use of fluff, pregnancy frustrations
Thank you to my saving grace, @just-another-busy-fangirl, beta extraordinaire.
“Jay!” Nicole called from the upstairs of their home. She was in the nursery they had just finished a few days ago. With only about six weeks to go before her due date, they wanted to make sure that everything was finished before they were too close and Nicole was too big to do anything.
The nursery was finished in soft blues and greens with a Noah’s Ark theme. Jensen and Nicole had decided that since there were two babies coming, they would use the theme “Two by Two.” One of Nicole’s friends at the hospital was an accomplished artist and had spent hours painting the walls to get the theme just right, giraffes and elephants painted meticulously added to the feel.
Nicole had been banned from the room until it was finished and it wasn’t until last weekend that she had been allowed in, after Jay had assembled both cribs. All the other accessories and furniture had been stored in the generous walk-in closet. With the help of a couple of friends, everything was placed with Nicole’s direction and the room was absolutely perfect.
Jensen walked in the room, finding his very pregnant wife sitting in one of the plush rocking chairs, rubbing small circles over her swollen middle. She still took his breath away and he marveled at how lucky he was to have found her and that she had agreed to share this life with him. “Hey, Baby, what’s on your mind?”
“Ash and Ang are flying in today. The spare room is already made up, but Matt and Rob won’t be here till Friday. Are you picking them up?” Nicole inquired.
“Yes, I talked to Ash before she boarded and her flight is on time. Angelina’s is delayed because of a storm in Minneapolis, but I will get her, too. I promise,” Jensen assured her.
“Okay, good. I just don’t want to miss anything and I feel with all these hormones I am forgetting everything lately!” Nicole was tired and getting frustrated with the amount of information she felt she was forgetting lately. From her medical knowledge, she knew “pregnancy brain” was not an actual ailment. She deduced that is was just everything else on her mind, with the twins due to arrive in six weeks, but she couldn’t shut it down.
“Everything is all set for the baby shower on Saturday, too. Beth already ordered the cake and it will be ready Saturday morning. I was informed that your girls are going shopping Friday morning before the guys get here. Ashley Renee and Beth will be here that afternoon and everything is going to fine. Your only job is to relax, be beautiful and grow my babies!” Jensen knelt in front of her, kissing her stomach lovingly as he gazed up at his wife.
“I am going stir crazy. My blood pressure is down but they won’t let me return to work and only lifted some of my restrictions. I can hardly clean anything and I want to do something!” Nicole fumed.
“Well, I can get you out of the house if you want to join me when I pick up your friends,” Jay offered, seeing a smile as it spread across her face.
“I think I can handle that!” she laughed. “I miss my girls so much!”
~*~
Wednesday night was spent with delivery pizza and cheesy rom coms as the three friends caught up. There was talk of baby names, but Nicole wouldn’t give in and reveal the names she and Jensen had picked out. The only thing anyone had been told was that they were expecting a boy and a girl.
“So Ash, tell me how things are going with Matt,” Nicole probed as she dug into her ice cream.
“Things are amazing! Being married to Matt is the best thing in the world right now and we have decided to start a family!”  Ashley squealed and the three of you shared of group hug at the happy news.
“And Angelina, I know things are moving along with you and Rob. Aren’t you so glad I got you that extra VIP for Minneapolis?” Nicole bragged.
“Duh! I know the long distance isn’t ideal, especially with planning a wedding. I am anxious about the move, though. It isn’t just a whole new city; it will be the start of a whole new life with him. I am not anxious about being married to him; that I can’t wait for, but the rest of it scares me a little. I have lived in Minnesota my entire life, but most everything he does is in Los Angeles. He has an entire career there while I can get a job anywhere,” Angelina admitted, looking at her dear friends as tears glistened in her eyes.
“Oh, Boo, everything is going to work out just fine. You guys have so much love, it will get you through anything. Trust me, Jensen and I have been there. You just have to be honest and work it out together,” Nicole comforted her as Ashley refilled their drinks; wine for them and some sparkling water for Nicole.
“Nic is right, Ang. It wasn’t easy for me either when I moved in with Matt, all the way across the entire country! I miss my friends and family, but we have each other and that is what matters,” Ashley added.
“I knew this weekend was what I needed! Thank you both so much for talking me down from the ledge,” Angelina gushed.
“Okay, we have a full day of cleaning and setup to do tomorrow, so we should probably hit the sack. Friday we have groceries and food prep. Beth and Ashley will be here mid afternoon and Rob and Matt get in around five. We will pick them up, check into the hotel, then come back here before dinner, so we can get the rest of the room ready,” Ashley recounted, listing everything off on her fingers.
“I can’t wait for everyone to get here for this baby shower! I can’t believe we talked Jensen into a co-ed shower!” Angelina chimed in.
“Okay, everyone in bed. I am exhausted and it’s only ten o’clock!” Nicole yawned. The three women made their way upstairs, still chatting excitedly about the upcoming events.
~*~
“Rob, did you put out the balloons?” Angelina asked her fiance as he walked into the house, still shaking snow out his hair.
“Yes, Honey. Matt and I took care of it. The sidewalk and driveway are cleared and salted. It is finally starting to let up, I think,” Rob pondered as he gazed out the window.
“Okay, thank you. Beth just ran to pick up the cupcakes and I have the stand ready for when she gets back. The food is almost ready, and all the decorations are-” Angelina went over the list in her head before her thoughts were broken by one of her favorite voices.
“Ahhhhh!!! Oh my God, girl, you look stunning!” Brianna’s voice rang through the house as she walked through the front door, greeting Nicole, wrapping her in a side hug. She rubbed her hands over Nicole’s bump. “I can’t wait to meet these bundles!”
“Hey Bri!” Ang called out as she made her way from the kitchen to the front of the house. She squeaked as Brianna hugged her so tight she could barely breathe.
“I am so happy to see you girls! Congrats on the engagement by the way. Rob, you sly dog!” Brianna playfully punched Rob in the arm before hugging him, too. “Kim is on her way, but had to make a stop. Jared and Gen are swinging by the liquor store and will be over, too. And Misha, well, Misha is Misha.”
“The punch bowls!!” Ashley shouted as she ran back in the kitchen.
~*~
The house filled quickly with the chatter and laughter of all of Nicole’s friends and family. Besides blood family, the guest list was a who’s who of a Supernatural Convention. Mark and Sarah Sheppard had made the trip, along with Ruth, Jason Manns, Rich and his wife, Jaci.
Tours of the nursery were given and games were played. The food was a big hit, everyone commenting on how creative everyone had been in the planning. The theme was comfort foods and although the list was odd, it was what the Lady of the Hour wanted.
The food included a taco bar, homemade meat lover’s pizza, fried rice and chicken sandwiches with a variety of fixings. Ashley Renee had made a cute watermelon ‘ark’ filled with fruit, arranging little plastic animals in and around it. There was also a hot chocolate bar with all the toppings and a plethora of sweet treats. The hit of the party was the cake, which was tiered cupcakes decorated with animals, two of each, just like Noah had on the Ark.
The shower was a booming success and once all the gifts had been opened, the proud parents addressed their guests.
“Nicole and I are so overwhelmed by all the love, and support and are so happy that all of you could be here with us today,” Jensen started.
“None of this would have been as special if you weren’t here. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ashley and Ashley Renee, Angelina, Beth, Genevieve and Jared, for all their help planning and set up. Also to Matt and Rob for shoveling; snow was not in the forecast!” Nicole added.
“Now, we have a few gifts to hand out as well,” Jensen continued. He handed an envelope to Mark and Sarah, then another to Angelina and Rob. Both couples opened them together, gasps coming from all four.
“Are you serious?!” Ang and Sarah asked at the same time.
“Yes, we had a long talk about all of this and any of you would have been excellent choices, we have asked these four amazing, incredible people to be the Godparents of our children,” Jensen announced. “Who would be better than God and the King of Hell?”
Everyone enjoyed a good laugh at that. Both women had tears in their eyes as they hugged Nicole and Jensen, their partners doing the same.
“We’d be honored, guys. Thank you,” Rob humbly told Jensen and Nicole.
“Yes, absolutely,” Mark agreed.
The guests started dispersing shortly afterwards. Jared, Matt and Rob carried all the gifts upstairs while the ladies got started on the cleanup. There was enough food left over for dinner that night and everyone sat around reminiscing about how they had met, favorite stories and  embarrassing admissions. Gen recalled her pregnancies fondly, nudging Jared, quietly suggesting maybe trying for another.
“Well, we gotta go, guys! Thanks!” Jared stood and threw Gen her coat.
“Oh geez!” Jensen groaned, shaking his head at his best friend.
“Make it a girl this time, Padalecki!” Nicole threw out as they walked out the door.
“So, are you guys really not telling anyone what their names are going to be? Someone has to know.” Matt looked around at everyone else left in the room, his eyes finally landing on Nicole and Jensen.
“No, we haven’t told anyone yet, Matt. But…” Nicole paused.
“Their names are Av-” Jensen stopped as soon as Nicole placed her hand over his mouth.
“Jay! We agreed! Pull up, man!” Nicole chastised her husband.
“Aww, come on! I hate secrets!” Jensen pouted.
“Six more weeks guys, Chuck willing,” Nicole just smiled.
“I’ll see what I can do,” Rob chuckled.

We have noticed the article involving remodeling house down the page on the internet and concluded it made good sense to write about it with you on this site.

Sweet Harmony
THE OLD SAYING that good fences make good neighbors just isn’t true in the Hostess City, where Southern hospitality means more than just lip service. This was certainly the case for Jeff and Cindy Holker, whose across-the-street neighbor, architect Joye Reno, oversaw a full renovation of their Richmond Hill vacation home.
The Holkers selected Reno for her prowess rather than her proximity, but given that the recent Savannah transplants remained in their home state of Minnesota until the project was complete, Reno’s locale was fortuitous. “I could just walk across the street and check on things,” she says. “I was happy to offer that peace of mind for them.”Such neighborly warmth is part of what drew the Holkers to the Savannah area in the first place. “Friends in Minneapolis looked at us like we were crazy. They said, ‘why don’t you go to Phoenix where it’s 85 degrees every day?’ But Savannah brings good food, good culture, it’s on the water, and the people are great,” Jeff Holker says, noting that his wife’s interest in Civil War history and his love for golf and tennis made for an exceptionally good fit.
While the Holkers dreamed of a vacation home for several years, things fell into place quickly when they toured a three bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom cottage in
The Ford Plantation in 2017.
It was the second house they looked at, and it had potential in spades: a wide front porch and workable floor plan, an enviable lot backing up onto a public garden, and moss-draped oaks on view from every window. “It’s the sweetest little house,” Reno says, but the homeowners felt (and she agrees) that the interiors “were just kind of blah.”
Reno and interior designer Linda Engler, who has worked with the Holkers on previous projects, spent seven months remodeling the home, infusing a coastal aesthetic and amplifying its secret garden-like charm while also honoring the Holkers’ modern tastes. “The shiplap is a great example, because it has a very precise delineation,” Reno says. “If you look at historic shiplap, it kind of weaves and changes, but instead we made it modern, with clean, sharp lines, and we used it both horizontally and vertically.”

Inspiration And Advice For Your Next Home Improvement Project
As your family size changes, you will need to consider making some changes to your home. You have many options to choose from in home improvement projects. The advice in this article will help you to have the home you dreamed of.
After some initial use, your kitchen cabinets can start to lose their luster. You can shine up kitchen cabinetry by using car wax. Apply some car wax liberally to a towel and wipe your cabinets down in a circular motion. This can make your cabinets appear like they`re new and shiny.
Stained wood baseboards are more appealing than painted ones. Furthermore, the look and feel of wood is perfectly suited to all types of decor and style. Stained baseboards will also hide scuffs and dings better than painted wood, and touch-ups to scratches will blend in more easily. As an added bonus, there are dozens of different wood stains to choose from.
In many home improvement projects, using "premium" materials is a way to maximize the value of the work. Comparison shop for these building supplies before choosing a vendor! For example, quality home flooring can be expensive, but if you shop around, you should be able to find the flooring in your price range. Discount supply stores and bargain hunting places are great ways to save money.
Choosing to use wooden flooring instead of carpeting can save you a lot of hassle in the long run. Carpet can contain allergens and cleaning it is sometimes out of the question. The cost of ripping up and replacing your carpet can almost be as costly as just putting down wooden flooring. Wooden floors can be refinished and repainted as needed; also providing a more rural and cottage style environment.
Improving a home does not have to be an overwhelming ordeal. The advice provided in this article will be helpful regardless of whether or not you intend to do the work yourself or you prefer to hire someone else to do it for you.

Home Remodeling to Hold Strong Despite Coronavirus
According to survey by LightStream, despite the financial and economical hardships the coronavirus has caused, homeowners are still enthusiastic about improving their living spaces.
While it may seem counterintuitive, a recently completed survey by private loan company LightStream has shown that homeowners are still willing to renovate and remodel their homes during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. According to LightStream, nearly three out of four homeowners (73%) are planning renovations this year—down only slightly from the company’s January 2020 Home improvement Trends Survey (77%).
In fact, homeowners are continuing or expanding projects (57%) at more than twice the rate of those who are cutting back or canceling altogether (23%).
As a result of the coronavirus, digital conferencing, family video calls and online happy hours have become an integral part of the new normal. In just four months, Zoom’s daily meeting participants jumped from 10 million to more than 300 million. With so many people opening their virtual doors to friends, family and coworkers, many are reevaluating their space.
LightStream recently conducted a home improvement pulse survey through Wakefield Research and found that two-thirds of American homeowners have a part of their house they just don’t like. Additionally, of those who have ever made a video call in their home, 64% have been embarrassed to show parts of their home, including the kitchen and bathroom (each at 20%) and the garage, basement and outdoors (each at 16%). No surprise to anyone who has been working from home with kids: 80% of parents are feeling this way versus 55% of non-parents.
After months of spending nearly all their time with roommates or loved ones, some homeowners indicated that they are ready for some intra-house social distancing. More than a third (36%) reported a lack of personal space in their home, with Millennials feeling the most cramped (62%) compared to Gen Xers (44%) and Baby Boomers (20%). And once again, parents are feeling the squeeze more than non-parents, with 57% reporting they are unable to get personal space compared to 25% of non-parents.
Tumblr media
“As a result of COVID-19 shutdowns that closed offices, businesses, schools and more, self-isolation has forced Americans to take a much closer look at their homes,” says Todd Nelson, senior vice president of strategic partnerships at LightStream.
With summer approaching, nearly half of those planning home improvement projects plan to tackle outdoor projects (49%), followed by home repairs (35%), bathrooms (33%) and kitchens (32%).

I’m going back to Minneapolis in less then 12 hours. I’m basically all packed. And I’m just a little sad. But mostly tired. Today has been good but man was it grey. The sun did eventually come out for a bit but mostly it was grey and cold. I slept okay last night but I had wild, vivid dreams. So when I woke up I was very sore and didn’t feel super great. But I got up and dressed and was okay. I felt like I had to keep stretching all day because my joints are all stiff. After I got dressed and checked in with mom. I laid down and read for a bit. Me and mom eventually got ourselves together and headed out. We were planning on going to the habitat for humanity restore. So we started at McDonald’s for breakfast. But the restore wasn’t open. So we had to change out plans. Even though it’s consistently terrible we decided to go to second avenue. Which is a department store sized thrift store at Franklin mills mall. Consistently it is filled with the worst people and is terrible. But we gave it a shot. It was very very busy! They were having a labor day sale and almost the whole store was 50% off. They had a sneaky asteric that said some of the color tags weren’t on sale but whatever. I was interested in shoes mostly. So I looked all over but almost every pair I picked up was to big or to small. And then the line to pay was wrapping around the store. At least 50 people long. Me and mom looked around a bunch. She just got a pillow and I found a bucket bag and a bear walking toy (who once I got home and out batteries in makes an ungodly screaming sound???), and some pointy flats. I got in line while mom kept looking. And honestly I was in line for like 20 minutes. But I didn’t mind much. People were bonding in line. And we were right against the big show rack so I kept trying stuff on and ended up finding some great boots. We paid and headed out. Mom wanted to show me a chair next door at big lots and we ended up looking at the Halloween decorations and the Christmas stuff. And we had way to much fun with the Christmas stuff. There was a doggy that danced and one of those snowmen that repeats everything you say but I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so I kept yelling at it to stop mocking me and then it would repeat and then we would laugh and then it would repeat the laugh. And basically we were making so much noise we were almost sure we were going to get kicked out. And that’s the story of how I got my first Christmas decoration for my new apartment. We went bowling! We are not very good at it but I had a lot of fun. Mom got a few strikes. I got one. But she beat me both games we played. She told me she just channels her dad who was apparently a good bowler. I had a good time and even if I sucked it was fun. We headed home after that. We were tired. When we got back I unpacked off the stuff we got and I went to rest for a bit. Watched tv. Eventually I went down to my studio and packed up the stuff for mom to bring down to Baltimore for me. I even wrapped all the breakable things like an adult. I chilled for the afternoon. Packed a bit. Enjoyed relaxing. Mom and dad went out for an early dinner and then took Molly to the dog park. I chilled at home and then Steve came and we went out for a late dinner. We went to Bob evens and I got to teach him all about asexuality and the Bernstein bears universe and my favorite YouTube comideians and it was just a lot of fun. I missed him. I’m glad we got to spend the time together. And now I’m at home. I’m going to try to sleep for a bit. I have to wake up at like 3 because I need to be at the airport at 5. I’m hoping a shower in the morning makes me feel nice for the trip. And tomorrow I’m supposed to go to the state fair with ashlyn. I cannot wait to see my cat. I hope he’s not to upset. Wish me luck on my travels. I’ll be back here soon. Its going to be a nice last month in Minnesota but I’m super excited for my new adventure. Goodnight everyone.

Writing colors varies, if there is a certain writing color that you would want, please let us know.
Flour sack dish towels are called “flour sack” because they are modeled after the thin cotton bags that flour and grain used to be packed in, which were re-used as towels. What to Consider When Renovating your Laundry Room
By Sarah Dawson May 10, 2018
You spend a considerable amount of your time in your laundry room, undertaking a necessary if mundane chore. Add some joy to your life by finally making this area of your home as efficient and aesthetically pleasing as possible. If you’ve been wrestling with the idea of transforming your space, summer is the perfect time to check this home improvement redo off your list.  For pointers on undertaking this project we sat down with St. Paul, Minnesota-based interior designer Bria Hammel of Bria Hammel Interiors for some expert advice. Here are her recommendations:
Tackle the basics first. “Aside from the kitchen,” Hammel says, “the laundry room is the biggest workhorse in the house.” With that in mind, take your time planning out exactly what you’ll need. A good place to start, Hammel advises, is with appliances, lighting and plumbing. One of the first things you should confirm are the actual appliances you’ll include in the space. For Hammel, a washer and dryer unit with a steam feature is a must. The laundry room can also be a good space for second refrigerator, so now is the time to consider whether or not you have a need for one. Next up is lighting: will you go with a  decorative light fixture, can lights, or both? Finally, decide whether or not you want to put in a utility sink. To this, Hamel responds with a resounding “yes!” Determining these items ahead of time will allow your electrician and plumber to rough in for the appropriate features and avoid costly and time-consuming fixes on the back end.
Think about the task of doing  laundry from beginning to end. There are many steps to getting clothes clean, from sorting and pre-treating stains to folding and putting away clothes. “Functionality is so important,” Hammel shares. “And when your space is designed smoothly, you might actually enjoy the chore.” Predetermine where you’re going to store your laundry supplies, like detergent, bleach, dryer balls, etc. Do you want to put it out of sight in a sliding drawer or atop a shelf in pretty vessels? Next, regard your needs for laundry bins, pull-out drying racks and / or an ironing area, Hammel advises. Consider adding a countertop over your washer and dryer for a perfect folding station. Also of note, and taking some work off of you,  think about storage areas for your family’s clean, folded clothes, that they can grab and then put away themselves.
Maximize your space. Utility rooms often have extra space and this can be used for so much more than the act of doing laundry. “This is the perfect place to add an arts and crafts station for children,” Hammel recommends. “Especially since you won’t care as much when things get messy.” For adult needs, consider an area dedicated to an art studio, workspace or wrapping station. On the more practical side, think about adding a linen cabinet to store overflow bedding and your cleaning supplies.
Don’t forget the design details. We’ve already addressed the importance of functionality, but beauty comes in a close second when designing a laundry ro0m. “We’re convinced if the space is beautiful you’ll want to spend more time there,” says Hammel. Adding unique details in an unexpected place like a laundry room adds a “wow” factor and is sure to delight you every time you step into the room. Consider painting your cabinets a vibrant color, adding a fun, patterned wallpaper, or installing a shaped or patterned floor tile. Even if you just choose one of these elements, it will help bring your space to life.
Prepare for the unexpected. “When working on a remodel, you never know what’s going to be found behind the current walls,” Hammel says. And anytime plumbing and ventilation are involved things can be tricky, especially in an older home that might not be up to current code. So take a deep breath and go into the project with your eyes wide open. With proper planning and advance ordering of materials and appliances, you should be in and out of a laundry room renovation within a month. If it takes longer, that’s just the perfect excuse to spend a little more time lounging poolside. Just don’t forget the sunscreen!

September 13th-22nd, Minnesota-Washington
Gae and I relaxed during the day on the 13th, until Laurie and Zane finished work.
Tumblr media
I was feeling good about helping Piper relax in the house without her Mom and Dad around, but I’m not so sure this was the wisest position to train her on:-)
Tumblr media
In the evening we visited their daughter, Haley and got a tour of her new digs... niiicce!
Tumblr media
On the 14th, Zane and I took a walk along the lake to check out the waterline, which is visible on the tree about 4 feet from the ground, behind a portable pump station.
Tumblr media
On the way back I spotted this Blue Heron at lake’s edge.
Tumblr media
Late morning we drove to see their son, Ryan, at he and Kevin’s place... a beautiful, nearly 100 year old home.
Tumblr media
The location was a block away from public transit to Minneapolis and St. Paul, and a few blocks from Minnehaha Falls Park.
In the evening we joined Laurie and Zane at a party put on with someone Laurie works with, at their beautiful home in Hudson. It only took a little effort to keep Gae out of the bouncy house:-)
Tumblr media
We relaxed after the party, watched a movie and enjoyed some awesome pizzas Laurie made on the grill.
Tumblr media
Gae attended church on the 15th, enjoying a Hmong ward service.
We headed out of Minneapolis on the 16th, heading northeast on I-94. The day was warm, so stopping early made no sense, and we made it to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Had we known the park was there, we’d have made reservations and not been turned away. Instead we parked in Beach, North Dakota for the night at a quiet Flying J.
We continued east on the 17th, shooting for Missoula, Montana, taking State Road 200 across Montana for something different.
Tumblr media
We stopped in Lewistown for a lunch break, where Gae questioned how many 10 year old skateboarders could possibly benefit from a beautiful skate park, and became quiet when a couple guys with grey hair showing started tearing up the park;-)
We spent the night at Wallyworld after gassing up at Costco. The morning was rainy and cool, but I wasn’t after the van wouldn’t start on the morning of the 18th. Gae stayed calm and collected, as usual, having me call AAA, and getting a jump within an hour. After a brief stop to have the relatively new Interstate battery tested at a local Firestone, we drove to The Garden Of One Thousand Buddhas, north of Missoula.
Tumblr media
These Stupas greet you on entry... monuments to 8 great events in Buddha’s life.
Tumblr media
I don’t know who counted the Buddha’s but there probably is at least 1000.
Tumblr media
Several other stone statues decorate the park-like monument.
Tumblr media
The decorative plantings included Yarrow, a plant used to stop bleeding, so I stuffed a little up my nose to teach that growth in my sinuses a lesson.
We drove to my nephew, Zach’s, in Wenatchee, Washington to spend the night. Zach was already home by the time we got there, so we enjoyed a nice dinner and visit with him before bed.
On the 19th, Zach went back to work, and I took the van to have the oil changed and pick up a couple things at the grocery store. We had another great evening cooking and visiting with Zach, before heading for Seattle on the 20th. We did a few errands on arrival... mail, gas and haircuts, before parking at Tiff and Kelly’s for the night. Gae attended Toastmasters on the 21st, as well as taking Luna to the vet, and I rode my bike to Walgreens to pick up prescriptions.
Tumblr media
Gae ran across these locally collected beauties at the local used book store...tis the season!
Gae attended church on the 22nd, while I spent some time and money at the West Seattle Farmers Market with my buddy Andy.
