Weird MtG trivia? Time for me to shine. For those curious (please answer it first before looking):
Epic mechanic (Don't talk to me or my Never-Ending Torment prison deck ever again)
Harness Infinity (We have Praetor's Council at home)
Aeon Engine (there is also an Un card that does this but doesn't have the correct wording. Honestly was thinking of the un card and was surprised there is one in black border)
The correct answer. There are cards that refer to your opponents losing the game, but there are no conditional effects based on this.
The Millennium Calendar (only knew this because it's pretty new and was memed on)
Lich (The original effect from Alpha that has spawned many other effects to exchange your life total for another metric to determine if you are alive. Lich + Mirror Universe was a silly jank deck once)
Pain's Reward (people have tried to make this card work in Legacy storm shells, but it's just awful)
The Foretold Soldier and Etherial Valkyrie (I only remembered it being a pun from the Doctor Who set but turns out there is a second card with this text too)
Imperial Mask (We had to make due before Leyline of Sanctity was printed in places where Solitary Confinement was not legal. I have never seen this card actually make tokens)
Opposition Agent (There are many opponent controlling effects but only this one controls all opponents instead of controlling target player/opponent)
Disciple of Caelus Nin (for some reason WotC really wanted phasing to be a thing again)
Hogaak (This card is so infamous that TCGPlayer advertised that they would give everyone a bigger store credit back discount if it was banned on the first banlist announcement since it was printed. Without surprise, the Arisen Necropolis was put to rest instantly after terrorizing Modern and becoming one of the poster children of WotC's current era of wild power creep in card design alongside Oko and Uro) btw, if you want proof of that last one, I saved their promotion page for the sale:

Weird Magic: the Gathering effects: Second edition
A couple months back, I ran a poll where people guessed which of a bunch of weird MTG effects wasn't real. It was fun, so we're running it back with a second batch of weird things.
As last time, only the current text of effects is used, not necessarily the one printed on the card. Limited to cards that exist in paper, and are legal to play in at least some tournament formats. Though this time, I did expand a bit to rules that aren't directly on the cards, but might be part of the full rules text of keywords from the comprehensive rules, and then those keywords are on cards.
Have fun!

We’re Back!!!
With the release of Time Spiral Remastered, I figured it as a good opportunity to revive my favorite cube.
I’ve decided to expand things to a full 360. This cube was originally built to be drafted by 6 people. I kept the total below 360 so we’d always have more than half the cube in the pool. With this update I wanted to be able to support 8-person pods (or 2x 4p). As a result it does dilute the deck, so I've gone a little deeper on some archetypes and also raised the overall power level to something a little closer to Constructed Vintage.
There’s been some turmoil that has pushed me away from MtG, but MtG Arena got under my skin and I've got the sickness again. I’m hoping to really get things going when the apocalypse is over.
To start with, here is the last condition the VCC was in when I stepped away: https://www.cubetutor.com/cubeblog/23458
From here I’ve added quite a large number of newer cards, strategies, and otherwise powerful choices that were originally removed. As it stands I still need 30 cuts, but figured I’d give anyone still listening a taste of where things are headed. I’ll be using a new link for the sake of preservation of the final state of the first VCC.
Here is where you will now find the most up to date list: https://www.cubetutor.com/cubeblog/177577
Problems moving forward:  Storm: is there enough support? It was easier to pull a storm deck together with the smaller card pool since the best cards were pretty narrow and the smaller number meant you were sure to get some of what you needed. I don’t want it to get short changed and I also can’t let the archetype fall apart as I feel it is an essential facet of this style of cube.
Archetypes: are some of these stale? They’re meant to show off the history of Magic’s oldest formats but are there more in testing things I can be doing than hate bears and Dark Depths? Second Sunrise could be spicy with the already heavy focus on artifacts but that would require a lot of retooling.
1-drop mana dorks: Should there be more? I limited this number to avoid green being perceived as being deeper than it is. Since this is a 4x cube something like 4x Birds of Paradise is an extremely high pick. Is this lack of 1-drop interaction negatively impacting green based decks? I’m hoping allosaurus Shepherd can help, but is that enough?
Here are the additions. I’ve only made a couple cuts so far:
Allosaurus Shepherd Ancestral Vision Archon of Emeria Basking Rootwalla Cavern of Souls Conspicuous Snoop Cranial Plating Crop Rotation Crystalline Giant Demonic Consultation Dreadhorde Arcanist Emry, Lurker of the Loch Flickerwisp Force of Negation Force of Vigor Garruk Wildspeaker Goblin Cratermaker Goblin Engineer Goblin Lackey Goblin Recruiter Golos, Tireless Pilgrim Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis Hollow One Hullbreacher Hypergenesis Krovikan Horror Lavinia, Azorius Renegade Living End Luminarch Aspirant Manifold Key Mother of Runes Mystic Forge Mystic Sanctuary Narset, Parter of Veils Oko, Thief of Crowns Once Upon a Time Opposition Agent Pact of Negation Palace Jailer Paradox Engine Paradoxical Outcome Prismatic Omen Prized Amalgam Remand Repeal Restore Balance Scapeshift Shambling Shell Silence Skirk Prospector Spell Queller Stonecoil Serpent Survival of the Fittest Thalia, Heretic Cathar Torch Courier Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger Underworld Breach Urza, Lord High Artificer Vengevine Wheel of Fate Wrenn and Six Thassa's Oracle Valki, God of Lies // Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor Simian Spirit Guide Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty Summoner's Pact Inventors' Fair Chief of the Foundry Foundry Inspector Steel Overseer Vesuva
-Notion Thief got the boot since Hullbreacher is usually just better and easier to cast.
Some notable additions: Goblins. Red has felt pretty lackluster. I avoided goblins because they are too linear to draft (in the way Elves was). With the increase in overall power level and the dilution of the card pool I think this is less a problem. It’s also allowed me to tighten my Human and Eldrazi tribes (thereby putting Cavern of Souls back on the table). Since I still need cuts this will be cut back, but I wanted to be as inclusive as possible for the first new update.
Green is also a tricky thing for a cube like this. In one of my final updates to the first version I focused on a Miracle Gro strategy, which I think is an excellent option. Since many decks are bizarre frankensteins of Vintage archetypes a pillar like miracle gro has a lot of incidental depth even if you’re not building a Gro deck. That said, every deck needs some way to play unfair in Vintage. Greens latest toys are a heavier focus on land based strategies as well as some mana cheating with cards like Hypergenesis.
Many archetypes have additions for them in this update that may raise eyebrows. I’ve had to add additional depth to some archetypes (take Dredge as an example) in order to keep draft consistency up. Shambling Shell absolutely does not add anything new or exciting to the draft, but a 4-person draft has only half the cube in rotation at any time now. It is essential to all supported archetypes that they have some level of consistency. All that said, shambling shell specifically may still get cut but it illustrates the point. I’ve also bumped up Ravager Shops support.
I’m currently working through cuts, but it’s of course challenging to know what’s what when testing is out of the question. I’m also concerned that there are some options or strategies that I’ve missed as I haven’t paid much attention over the last 3 years or so. Next updates will include the cuts, some updates on the physical copy, and any additional ideas that come to me between now and those 30 cuts. I’ll probably do the cuts in waves, trimming 10 or so each time after some sealed and bot drafts. Unfortunately the bots are not useful since they can’t follow the 4x gimmick, but should still give me a decent feeling.
Feel free to draft it on cube tutor, but please remember to draft it with awareness of the 4x unrestricted cards vs 1x restricted card gimmick. While this cube absolutely can be (and often is) drafted as a normal 1x cube, the intended experience is 4x copies and 60 card decks.
Have at it!

What I see here is: fanon take the wheel
Do you know if we'll be getting any lore for Hogaak? He/It/They seem very intriguing!
There’s not any story support for Modern Horizons.

If I exile my opponent's Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis with Hostage Taker, thus gaining the ability to spend mana as if it were mana of any type to cast it, can I tap blue, red, or white creatures to pay Hogaak's convoke?
You can, but they'll only pay the generic portion of Hogaak's mana cost like for any other spell with convoke. Hostage Taker lets you spend mana freely in order to cast Hogaak, but Hogaak can't have mana spent to cast it, so that ability is completely useless in this case. You'll have to tap two black and/or green creatures to cast it. (You already have Hostage Taker, so you just need one more!)

Magic: the Gathering - Avatar
Incredible and wonderfully detailed work for Modern Horizon's Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis, illustrated by Vinceent Proce.  Convoke, Delve, Trample along with recursion from the ‘yard appears pretty damn good compared against the only downside forcing you to use only convoke and delve to land this morbid boi on the battlefield.

It wasn't that long ago that Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis was breaking Modern. Can Feasting Troll-King be a Foody version of Hogaak in Modern? At least on Fishbowl Thursday it can! Instant Deck Tech: Foodgaak (Standard). https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/instant-deck-tech-foodgaak-standard

Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis {5} {G/B} {G/B}
Legendary Creature - Avatar
You can't spend mana to cast this spell.
Convoke, delve (Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for 1 or one mana of that creature's color. Each card you exile from your graveyard pays for 1.)
You may cast Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis from your graveyard.
Trample

Note
Do we know what Plane Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis is from? Is it the newly combined Alara?
Hogaak is not plane-specific. By that I mean there’s nothing obvious that tells us what plane he’s from. He joins about 38 other creatures in Magic that are plane non-specific, including Morophon and Ayula from this set.

Mtg goldfish standard sristocrats
Tumblr media
We’re now going to swing over to the world of Commander. You can sacrifice a bunch of your creatures to satisfy the cost each time you cast it, triggering all of your payoffs. Each time you do it goes straight back to the command zone to be recast later. The plan is to always cast this as Awaken the Blood Avatar. It’s not only a sacrifice outlet built into your commander, it’s also a repeatable one that comes from the command zone. While not strictly an aristocrat I wanted to highlight Extus, Oriq Overlord as my choice for an aristocrat commander. Extus, Oriq Overlord / Awaken the Blood Avatar Saproling tokens are an archetype in their own right but they’re very handy to sacrifice and so go very well with these kinds of decks too. It’s a commander that combines an aristocrat with both a token and counter generator. Ghave, Guru of Spores was one of the commanders from the original set of Commander precons back in 2011. This combo was prevalent enough that it got banned in Standard before we had to face an additional year of it dominating the format. Looping these two cards each turn and triggering each of your payoffs is what makes the deck tick. Sticking with the altar theme, we can’t forget Altar of Dementia, a key combo piece from the format-dominating Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis decks in Modern.Īnd one of the original engines for all of these kinds of decks was Goblin Bombardment, a card that Sam Black has made work in Legacy on multiple occasions.įinally, who can forget Witch’s Oven and Cauldron Familiar? This combo is the biggest reason that the Standard and Historic Food decks exist. Not only do they act as sacrifice outlets to give you a very relevant amount of mana, but they’re part of some nasty infinite combos too. If you’re a Commander player, you will no doubt be familiar with Ashnod’s Altar and Phyrexian Altar. These cards aren’t technically “aristocrats” since they’re not creatures, but they’re still very powerful sacrifice outlets nonetheless. I’ll kick this off with a couple of honorable mentions. But with all of the different versions printed over the years, which ones stand out as the best ever? Here’s a few that have stood out to me. Food sacrifice decks were a mainstay of Standard a few years ago and are even still a big part of the Historic metagame. Many Draft sets nowadays have used aristocrats to create a Rakdos ( ) sacrifices Draft archetype. Ever since that fateful event in 2013, aristocrats have been a big part of the Magic landscape.
