#Hilda Frida’s mum

Ik the fandom headcanons Frida’s parents as toxic or sometimes abusive, and those headcanons are nice and present fun adoption AUs etc BUT the most canon has told us is that they’re overbearing, and whilst it’s had a negative effect on Frida there’s nothing to suggest that they’re aware of this and wouldn’t strive to fix their relationship should they be made aware

All this to say I love the idea of Frida’s parents finding out she’s a witch and just being aggressively supportive - they buy her a cat and a cauldron and everything and are constantly bragging about what a unique field their daughter is going into. They put a massive emphasis on Frida’s relationship with Hilda, because it’s so important they get along and that their connection is strong so they can become the best people they can possible be!!!! Johanna is seething bc this by extension means they want their families to get along and now she cannot get rid of them

Now that the last season of Hilda is out, I thought I'd share some of my Hilda things from over the years. From the second graphic novel onwards I was living with Luke, so I feel like I've had a front row seat to the creation of everything Hilda. Many times I would sit with Luke and help talk through story points and idea with him. During the creation of season three, my main contribution was looking after our toddler and twin babies during lockdown so that Luke could work! (And providing the voice of The Pooka of course).

In the above picture you will see my crochet Tontu, and the little Tontu I made as a practice run for making that. That Tontu design which was my own, ended up being Frida's Nisse.

Enjoy a picture of my mum, who inspired the design of the Sparrow Scout Leader, and my sisters dog Poppy (parsons jack russel) who didn't inspire Twig but undoubtedly modelled once or twice for a pose.

Sad to see the end of the Hilda TV show, but glad they got three seasons and very proud of everyone who worked on it!

My head cannon endings for all the Hilda cast post finale (Spoilers for season 3)

Astrid

She remains in her home, never moving away. However she makes sure to visit Hilda often, which has become easier now that she's learned to fly again. She also doesn't get to lonely as she invites the Pooka to like with her and helps him practice shape shifting. When she dies she is buried where the fairy mound once was to be closer to her family.

Raven

He travels the world but always returns to Trollburg, on cold winter nights he joins Hilda and her family for tea and games, maybe the yule lads join in too. On his travels he spreads the story on Hilda far and wide even long after she's gone.

Tryla & Baba

They remain at the mountain most days but do ecompany Hilda on adventures during her weekly visit. They still live there long after everyone else is gone, telling tales of Hilda to the next hundreds of generations of trolls.

Anders

He continues living in Trollburg, working on wall and city maintenance with the bellkeeper. He never gets back together with Johana but he does try and be a better dad to Hilda, including taking her on that camping trip.

Johana

Begins selling her paintings to people, she also starts painting things from her and Hilda's adventures, including the Fae Ilse, which she still thinks about often. When she dies Hilda burries her at the fairy mound with Auntie Astrid, but she keeps a lock of her hair in a locket. One day, in the far future when Hilda has finally moved on she hangs that locket at the remains of the cabin.

Tontu

Just keeps doing what he does mostly. Going on adventures with Hilda occasionally but mostly keeping to himself. He remains in the house for a long time, even after Hilda had died.

Alfur

Keeps writing reports for the northern counties but he also begins working with Gerda and the safety patrol, his days are busy but that's how he likes them. When he dies, if elfs even do, he would be given a funeral pyre by the lost clan and Hilda returns to the northern counties to scatter his ashes.

Louise

Would go on many more adventures with the trio and would start to develop a crush on David, one that David would reciprocate. She would eventually become a wildlife photographer.

David

Started researching entomology and now runs an insect focused wildlife centre near the sparrow scout building, enjoying a more peaceful and quiet life than most of his friends. He also assists the linworm in a construction of a new garden on sparrow scout property, sometimes the two of them and Louise have tea together. He was the first to die out of the four and was buried in Trollburgs graveyard, later Louise would be buried with him when she died.

Frida

Finished her training and became a fully fledged witch. She would take over running the Trollburg library from Kaisa after Kaisa was appointed to the witch council. When they were teenagers she and Hilda started dating but they never decided to get married.

Hilda

She still goes on adventures in her teenage years, it wouldn't be Hilda if she didn't. She and Johanna also practised flying with their fae magic. She always makes sure to keep in touch with Astrid and Victoria. She continues to paint and make music and becomes a freelance artist like her mum. Twig also grows big enough to ride when he gets older. She lived in her apartment in Trollburg until her death. She and Frida were buried together at the overgrown remains of the cabin

Woodman

He's still there, deep in the woods. even after everyone else has long since died, perhaps he tells the tales of a mysterious blue haired friend to spirits to the passersby.

Or perhaps he would tell you that if you walk deep enough into the woods, you could find an old forest glen where a cabin once was, and you can speak to her spirit yourself

Hilda: Because my mum is in danger.

Frida: What?!

Hilda: Look, do you remember those witch spells you showed me the other day?

Frida: The ancient ones that no one uses? Yeah, what of it?

Hilda: Well all of them have parts of fairies as an ingredient and I think Kaisa somehow found out that my mum is half-fairy and so I’m making sure she doesn’t try anything funny to get parts of my mum and you two are backup.

[Frida and David look across the street and see Johanna and Kaisa are having tea at an outdoor café and talking, looking like their having a good time]

David: I dunno Hilda. It looks like they’re just hanging out.

Hilda: She’s been playing the long game.

Frida: How so? Your mum and Ms Kaisa have been out before?

Hilda: Yeah. They went to the movies last week, then had dinner at that fancy restaurant the week before, hung out at the library, they’ve been talking on the phone a lot, they……oh my god, my mum is dating the librarian…

Frida: Awwww, that’s cute.

David: Good for you, Hilda. A witch-step-mom.

Frida: They’re just dating, not married David.

Hilda: Hmmm, I mean, that would explain that one morning Kaisa came out of mum’s room wearing one of mum’s shirts.

David and Frida: !!!!!!

[Twig quickly runs up to Hilda and hides behind her, looking at Hildelion waringly]

Hildelion: What?

Hilda: Yeah, I don't know who you are...

PART 1: THE GRASS SWORD

As Hilda, Frida, and Kaisa ventured into the labyrinthine first chamber of Matilda Pilqvist's maze, they encountered an unexpected adversary. A plant creature loomed before them, prompting Hilda to grasp a sword she discovered in the vicinity. In this AU, the weapon in question is none other than the Grass Sword. With a swift motion, Hilda cleaved through the lock that barred their way, all without the help of Frida. "That's a really freakish sword," Kaisa said, eyeing the blade with a mix of awe and apprehension.

The Grass Sword was abandoned in the room as the trio pressed on, the episode unfolding as normal.

In the aftermath of their adventure, Hilda lauded Tildy for her exceptional magical prowess, particularly in the creation of the Grass Sword. Tildy, however, confessed to no recollection of such a feat, but she attributed the lapse to her old age. Hilda, ever respectful, returned the sword to Tildy, who intended to restore it to its rightful place within her maze.

That night, Hilda's sleep was deep and undisturbed. Yet, next morning revealed a curious anomaly: blades of grass encircled her wrist. It seemed the Grass Sword had claimed her as its new master. The thought of her Mum's potential reaction sent a shiver down her spine—Johanna would surely ground her indefinitely. Thus, Hilda resolved to conceal the sword, which is easy for her since she usually wears long sleeves anyways. She signed a confidentiality form with Alfur, permitting him to document the sword's existence, albeit discreetly.

When the Kraken incident led to Hilda getting grounded, she breathed a sigh of relief; atleast Johanna had not noticed her Grass Sword. Unbeknownst to Hilda, it would be a long time before the sword would grace her presence again.

S2E8, "The Fifty-Year Night," found Hilda meddling with the fabric of time. Her goal was simple: to cement the love between Ostenfeld and Tildy in that one fateful night. Alas, Time Worms hate deviations from set-in-stone time. As one such creature wreaked havoc in the nightclub, devouring alternate realities of Ostenfeld, it also targeted the past incarnation of Hilda. Defying the warnings of her future self, Hilda unsheathed the Grass Sword and lunged at the Time Worm. The ensuing struggle saw the sword expand, enveloping her arm in a desperate bid to subdue the beast (like Finn not letting his father escape in "Escape From The Citadel").

The attempt failed. The Grass Sword loosened its grip, severing from Hilda's arm (her arm itself is fine though). The future Hilda met her end within the maw of the Time Worm, which then consumed the remains of the Grass Sword and then turned its appetite towards the present Hilda. In a leap of faith, she plunged into a time portal, narrowly escaping the same fate.

The episode, and subsequently Season 2 and the movie, progressses and finishes as normal, yet what was happening to the Time Worm was far from that at all.

The Ostenfeld and Hilda alternates, trapped within the Time Worm, oscillated between being and non-being, ultimately glitching out to oblivion. The Grass Sword, once a formidable mass, reverted to its original form and impaled the past Hilda. It thought that it had found its way back to their master, but they were confronted with a duplicate of itself. The Grass Demon within the sword emerged, intent on eradicating the doppelgänger. It enveloped past Hilda in a cocoon, initiating a metamorphosis.

Some time after "The Fifty Year Night," the Time Worm, disoriented by the Grass Demon's transformation, flitted erratically across epochs. It traveled to a future that was the timeskip/epilogue of the movie, and close to the onset of Season 3.

Out in the wilderness, the Time Worm fainted on a clearing in the Great Forest. Within the creature, a mysterious force cleaved its way to freedom, leading to the creature's demise. From its remains emerged a figure of grass, gradually assuming a more familiar form—a form that has a beret, a scarf, and an insatiable thirst for adventure.

Thus, Hildelion came into being.

-Johanna Just Straight up Dies like (I am not 100% sure she was dead or just laying there very sick) But she is basically dead when Anders, Frida and David find them.

Our first proper glimpse of Hilda season 3!!

Posted over on the website of the Ottawa International Animation Festival. There will be a sneak peek of season 3 there on September 21st…the 5 year anniversary of the show starting! I so wish I could go, but sadly I'm in Toronto.

A reminder Johanna isn’t related to Hilda and Lauren in this AU, they don’t know each other. Yet…

After the disappearence of Hilda, David tried leaving the city from time to time to search for his friend, and sometimes would get into fights with some boys for mocking his friend's fate, but after his mum — who had become a safety patrol — had decided he would be best suited becoming a safety patrol. At first he didn't like the idea of patrol training, but as time went by and as Frida said that it would help him on their quest of finding Hilda, David just accepted it and even started enjoying it. It reminded him of the sparrow scouts — which he always loved — and even met some old faces, as well as some new ones at the patrol training. With the sparrow scouts, his school and the safety patrol training, David was getting very exhausted and for someone as tired as how he was at the time, he was of no fun for Bertha, his marra who for a while, stopped bothering him, but this is for another story... OK!!! And with Teen David done, time for teen Hilda and teen Louise >:) or should I draw adult Trevor? Hmmm so many options XD

Eggman is attacking Trolberg! Can Hilda and co stop him?

All the reasons why Trevor is a bad character.

He threw rocks at birds, and celebrated when he hit one and knocked it down.

He kidnapped the Great Raven, threw him in a cage, and tortured him.

He accused Hilda of being a witch in front of their entire class.

He lied to his mum about what happened with the Great Raven, making himself out to be the victim.

He vandalized the Sparrow Scout's stall at the Trolberg Winter Festival.

He knocked over a pot of boiling hot vegetable broth right next to David and Frida.

He nearly took David's eye out by hitting him in the face with a snowball.

He has never shown the slightest hint of remorse for his actions.

As far as bullies go, Trevor has got to be the worst I've ever seen in a cartoon; which is saying something, considering how little screentime he has. He only has a speaking role in two episodes of Season 1, one episode of Season 2, and none in Season 3.

But what's really sickening is how many people pick up for this character. Animal abuse is one of the most objectively horrible things a bully can do; you think that would be enough for him to be universally hated. But some IDIOTS out there still proudly declare that he is their "favorite character"... and even go as far as to ship him with Hilda, or even David. People who he has done nothing but torment since he was introduced.

Seriously, in a show with so many great options to choose from (Hilda, David, Johanna, Twig, Alfur, etc.) what kind of MORON would choose Trevor as their favorite character!?!

Fuck Trevor, but fuck Trevor-stans especially. Trevor is NOT a tragic victim of child abuse. His mum pulling his ear is NOT a sign that she is abusive, it just means that she's strict. If anything, she coddles her son and enables his bad behavior. She believed his version of events as to what happened in Chapter 3: The Bird Parade without bothering to get Hilda's side of the story. Remember how smug Trevor looked when his mum accosted Johanna. Yeah; that should tell you all you need to know about his character.

I am really glad that Trevor did not get a redemption arc. He doesn't deserve one. He's a one-dimensional bully with ZERO redeeming qualities, who has NEVER felt any remorse for his actions. That is the reality of his character.

If David is the coolest kid in Trolberg (which he is) than Trevor is, without question, the nastiest kid in Trolberg. Fuck him.

anyway kaisa with hilda after she starts dating johanna or even marries her

either way i don't think hilda would call her mum or smth like, she just doesn't and kaisa respects that. hilda calls her by her name and kaisa calls her 'kiddo' mostly, sorry not sorry.

also kaisa not very much liking anders but understanding he's important to hilda although he did hurt johanna with him leaving and basically being not a great co-parent/partner for most of time. she gives him a chance to be present now and she's not going to ruin it for hilda ((also my perosnal hc that her parents divorced when she was a kid bit it was pretty okayish so kaisa wants hilda to not ever have to hear how one step-parent bullshits on bio parent))

anders would be lowkey awkward with kaisanna happening but he's supportive, i imagine he tells kaisa something like "you're making her happy, i can tell that. she never smiled like this way with me". fight me but i believe johanna met anders in college and she admitted to him during breaking up she just can't feel anything towards men at all (she's a late bloomer lesbian!!!) and he has this "wild" thought that she may be lesbian but thinks that's not it. WELL

although hilda likes kaisa i believe she would have need some time to adjust. yk, it always been her and johanna, now the third one is coming and... hilda wants the best for her mum but she's only a child so it would be natural for her to be a bit battled about this. either way, she absolutely accepts it tho she's probably the last person to understand it, sorry not sorry (frida, david and louise know before her. they just do)

ALSO. johanna not accepting her lesbianism at first but trollberg is apparently pretty supportive place and kaisa definetely takes her to a gay bar. they also holds hands during bird parade they just do

Learning that Hilda S3 was supposed to have 6 more eps can't help but make ya wonder what kind of eps were cut? Imagine if there was an ep with Frida and her parents were they learn she's training to be a witch and it's a coming out allegory. They notice strange chants and glowing from Frida's room and go to investigate when she's at school and find a bunch of witch stuff. They go to confront her about it but end up tailing her to a typical Freaky Friends adventure where upon they see all the magical mishaps the 4 get up to on the regular, her parents get into danger and Frida saves them with a spell. Later at home and with Hilda at her side she admits to being a witch in training,

Frida: "Mum, Dad...I'm a witch...well, in-training but still."

Dad: “Well that’s kind of obvious after all the magic we saw you use.” Mom: “Wait, don’t witches have familiars? You know we can’t have pets in the apartment.”

[Frida grabs Hilda’s hand]

Frida: “well, about that. Hilda is my familiar.”

Shot lingers on the hands being held as we see the parents processing this and then they accept her daughter but warn her to keep her grades up “and no spells to change them or whatever.” “There’s not even a spell like that but okay.”

Just seems like there coulda been something done if Netflix had given the show the funding it had in previous seasons
