so to put it Mildly, I just finished reading the night of Watanagashi as it happens in Chapter 3

there's a lot in my mind but I just have one theory I want to state on record, and either it's totally ridiculous and wrong or my brain is huge

I think Miyo Takano is actually Satoko's mother

(of course this depends on whether or not Takano and Satoko have interacted in previous chapters... I don't remember that clearly, but I'll definitely be paying attention to that after now)

i literally went back and rewatched the whole shrine scene and didnt hear anything... either this is diagetic keiichi not noticing shit or shion gaslighting him. not ruling out either option

that whole shrine visit was suspicious as hell though. they just happened to run into takano and satoko but what was shion planning on taking keiichi out there for? just to be like "hey wanna check out an off-limits warehouse full of torture implements"? i don't buy it

in other words, ryukishi never repeats himself. to put it another way, we would never go over the same ground with yet another metaphor for something that was easily grasped ten pages ago ^_^

i realize others have probably asked this before, but would you consider reading higurashi after umineko? i'd call it the most relevant supplementary piece of media to it, with agatha christie novels being a close second

definitely! it'll be a long time until we get there but i absolutely will read higurashi once i'm done with umineko in however many trillion years that'll take lmao

You know it is a SHAME that streaming services don't seem to have the original Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (and the second season Kai) but definitely have Gou and Setsu when like.

Gou and Setsu are a sequel.

And you can see them without seeing the original, but like. you miss out on the clear parallels of Rika and I have already lived this time loop in the first series and I'm going to try to fix it and then the horror of nope, that did NOT fix it because! You haven't seen the original time loops! To know what she's trying to subvert! Or what she's doing!

...also you completely miss out on the original two theme songs, which is a shame, because Kai's theme song is fantastic (it's on my TTLT playlist and I...know it by heart) and the original theme just. it's one of the greatest horror aesthetic sounding theme songs I've heard (American Horror Story is close but not nearly as good as that sounds like creepy munching noises what is going on here).
