“You should’ve seen what the Wetlands did to my boots.”
Both of these idiots wore extremely impractical boots to the Hossberg Wetlands and Davrin laughed them all the way back to the Lighthouse.

I love that the faction agents are, literally or loosely, highly ranked members of that group and, if you're part of the faction, are basically your bosses... except for Evka and Antoine, who are rank and file Wardens (until they get field promotions nobody else wants at the end of the first act) and, if you're a Warden too, are your besties who helped you with the incident that landed you with Varric and ALSO unapologetically got in trouble with leadership

7, 12, and 17 for the Rook + partner asks please!! (Dissonant verses here hi!)
(link to the ask game list!)
hi i'm only 10 million yrs late. gonna try to be less longwinded than usual cuz i wanna do stuff for iktom And hakim a bit
7. Are they a physically affectionate couple? Are they fine displaying those affections in public or do they prefer to be in private? If they're not, how do they prefer to show their love instead? What does their ideal date look like? Do they go on much?
for hakim: in private yes very much hakim has to be pried off lucanis and neve with a crowbar. but in public? i think he teases pda sometimes but he doesn't actually do it that much. like he can be generally physically affectionate in the like. kinda way that you might think is pda before you see he's also like that with harding, taash, davrin, etc. that's just how he is with ppl he cares about. but in terms of like romantic pda i think most people would be surprised to find out that neve and lucanis prolly show more pda with each other than either do with rook unless theyre specifically messing w each other (neve and hakim are the worst offenders of this, esp in the endgame where their pastime is butting in on talon business to bother lucanis)
i think hakim likes dates that get Away from everything. rooftop dinners and people watching in treviso or dock town, maybe a walk or hike in rivain. its like, low pressure and not super social like a fancy date would be, and also very intimate in its own way. just him and them and the world for a bit.
for iktom: i think he's pretty average on the physical affection spectrum, but he seems like very much an acts of service focused kinda guy. or like. just being present With his partners ig. hes not shy about pda when hes feeling it, like picking up and kissing emmrich or davrin after an exciting/scary fight or something (cue get a room noises from taash lol). he's kind of just the kinda guy to get swept up in the moment but he's not crazy touchy feely on his own outside of that.
and with the date thing oh my god iktom is such a 'i wanna show you a place' guy. he will make you hike 4 hours and itll be worth it because you Will see the most amazing natural wonders in the corners of places you thought could only hold agony. granted he hiked around the anderfels professionally since he was like 15 so it makes sense he would be like this but like. yeah. there is often also an activity involved. like sledding or stargazing or some kind of game or something. he will see something beautiful or fun and instantly catalogue it in his brain to share with his loves later.
12. Any inside jokes?
hakim neve and lucanis have to have SO many. hakim and neve especially. unfortunately i am not very good at coming up with inside joke situations for characters on the fly but i know theres been many times where hakim just says A Phrase out of context to try to get one of them to crack up in a situation where it super isn't appropriate (that being said hakim is peak class clown he has inside jokes with everyone sdfghggf)
i think iktom and emmrich keep having this thing where they think they have an inside joke but the other didnt realize this was a thing they were gonna bring up around other people and they get kinda flustered. davrin and iktom definitely have more especially both being wardens i feel like you get a ton from that alone. all the weisshaupt training stories...
17. What is your Rook's favorite thing about their partner? What is the partner's favorite thing about Rook?
(me being like im not gonna be longwinded but then i polyship everyone so i doom myself w questions like these LMAO)
hakim: i think though lucanis does see himself as having been caged or molded towards something his whole life outside of his control (and he Is), i think hakim like. admires his ability to stay kind and such despite this. in that way he's always choosing to be the person he is and that's worth something. idk if that makes sense. but lucanis' thoughtfulness was the first thing that struck out to him.. i guess this is kind of true of neve as well. esp considering neve is hardened in his game its like...despite the hardboiled detective protector of it all, she never stops caring. she has a lot of conviction idk. which is part of why they butt heads sometimes but its good that she keeps him in check. they all keep each other balanced idk. theres a lot of more surface level attraction stuff he has with both sure but hes had that with dozens of people. its that stuff that endears them to him initially beyond the attraction and he holds onto that. says some corny shit like even if we weren't together thats something about you that will always be worth loving
them with hakim though....hm. hakim has this like. infectious like. positivity isnt exactly it but kind of? he's not wholly optimistic but he's always gonna look forward. always gonna find moments of joy or humor or something that can make the tension and fear kind of melt away. idk. thinking about lucanis's 'break apart my perfectly gathered clouds of doom' line w that especially. i think neve also likes this about him but the angles a bit different (and where lucanis is almost like dumbstruck by how much this mf brightens his day neve is almost like frustrated by it cuz like! hes distracting! but like its what she needs a lot of the time + she knows it. idk.)
iktom: i think theres a certain attraction iktom has towards someone who is ultra-competent in their field for one. which i think makes sense for both monster hunter davrin and fade expert emmrich (and also why he was having a constant bi panic with the group overall LMAO) but hm. i do know he loves to listen to them yap so maybe that Is part of it cuz he wants to do what he can to care about what they care about bc they care about them so deeply ykno? with emmrich its all tied up in his compassion. hes such a romantic but not in the literal romance sense like in the way he talks about things. it brightens something in iktoms soul. and davrin has Such conviction to make something of himself and do right by the responsibilities hes been handed and it makes iktom want to do the same. theyre both such fundamentally good people to him in ways that both make them good at what they do and make iktom wanna be better
their favorite thing about iktom though? hmmmm his chest i mean. idk i think davrin admires his strength like sure in a literal way but also in a mental/spiritual way. he's a bit of an anchor for him i think.... like. idk i think about davrins dialogues about being able to change your future and stuff and how he'd see iktom as having done that more than once and they both have this like. strength is shown in protection as much as might kind of thing + thats definitely like. part of it. (also i think in some way they're both each other's examples of why it is their place as wardens is so important/meaningful idk. i love a warden power couple.) for emmrich i think like. iktom has a thoughtfulness and cleverness to him that goes a bit under the radar esp considering hes this huge tank of a guy but emmrich Does catch it and always tries to encourage him to engage/acknowledge it cuz its this wonderful spark that doesnt get enough attention! its the why everyone keeps getting taken by surprise with him, himself included! (iktom is a tanky ass warrior but hes very kinda ranger-y in some ways hes very good in nature esp in the anderfels and is consistently surprising emmrich by just how much he can teach him)

I haven't decided what faction I want my character to be from in veilguard yet, I Need More Information before I can definitively make a call. but I must admit the siren song of rocking fifth house style disturbingly no-nonsense chill in the face of horror swag with the mourn watch is very loud and potent. speakers to the dead (and the dead are savage) vibes are so strong and so tempting

various and sundry artbook tidbits i found interesting (SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE VEILGUARD ARTBOOK. obviously)
faction & location stuff:
a sketch page from the very early days exploring shape languages for factions like elves, dwarves, wardens, the necropolis, tevinter, and rivain, also includes concepts for the mages’ college and the ben-hassrath
early rivain concept arts have npcs with a similar armour patterning to duncan’s, suggesting it’s a mark of his rivaini heritage like i always thought!
the depiction of the ““creation story”” suggests elves were mimicking the bodies of dwarves when they formed their own, not humans like i think mythal says in game flashbacks, which would make more sense timeline wise
there’s concept art of the city of ventus, which i believe is of particular relevance to mercar players? it’s right on the border of arlathan forest, and surrounded by magical statues holding out raised hands forming a ward along the tree line to keep it from encroaching
the home base was going to be a lovable fixer-upper of a ship given to us by isabela, named the dumat. this didn’t fit the spy theme they were originally going for, so they tried really really hard to make it a submarine without feeling anachronistic by making it sort of sea monster shaped. there are a lot of cutaways and schematics. they were going to give it a mystery engine that you would get light fetch quests to feed random objects: “ten dried lavender flowers, five quail’s eggs, three brass belt buckles, etc.....” the submarine then turned into an undersea mansion on the back of some giant shambling sea creature you would never get a good look at
later on there were some funny takes on the lighthouse specifically, like bringing back the sea creature theme to put it on the back of an interdimensional veil whale, or having it be the true location of the black emporium with a collection of eluvians that xenon the antiquarian lets you use
there’s a tiny concept art for a “high-speed aravel chase” in a canyon like a western
tevinter gladiators are mentioned a couple times. we WEREEE going to get to see the minrathous proving grounds :( there’s also a dwarven embassy concept art somebody take me out back and shoot me
there are a lot of ghilan’nain creature designs that didn’t make it into the game which is a shame but i can see why they would have been resource heavy
the antiva concept arts are so gorgeous. a lot of it got through! and definitely the overall Vibe made it. at some point it seems to have been antiva city itself; they don’t call it treviso and they mention the circle of magi as a major landmark
“The entrance to the Necropolis is like an inverted Tower of Babel. They seek knowledge in the grave instead of heaven.” <- this just rules as a line
for arlathan: “To differentiate it from previous forest and jungle locations in Dragon Age, we went with an autumnal colour palette. It has the benefit to feeling ominously like the end.”
the veil jumpers have a “skull halla” symbol that “implies their willingness to risk death”. did that end up in the game?
“With each faction, we explored a range of aspirational fantasies. For the Wardens, this ranged from knights in shining armour to butal tanks to a Nietzche quote: ‘Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster.’”
there’s this concept among the warden armours for an insane orlesian noblewoman look with the winter palace morrigan corset and a piled high wig, but the skirts torn knee length and a serrated fan in hand. i’m kind of obsessed
“To bring more life to the world, we thought about what industries would keep the Anderfels afloat. We took the prominent Warden blue colour and envisioned an industry harvesting flowers, creating dye, and then weaving copious amounts of blue fabric.” this is probably where the flower quests in the hossberg wetlands started off conceptually? v cute
character stuff:
in completely different early versions of the game, solas had a “bad cop” right hand woman called reva
imshael the desire demon/choice spirit from the masked empire and inquisition was going to be a two-handed weapon warrior companion, and also sexualised now while in largely feminine form, which would have been a Choice. there is one art of him in masculine form, also sexy but still not showing as much skin as the feminine one
as i said, neve was going to be calpernia
taash was a rogue. (they’re still a light-armoured dual wielder so that checks out.) it seems like davrin was briefly a mage. at some points harding seems to have inherited bianca
saarbrak, another qunari companion, seems to have lastest the longest of the abandoned concepts. he’s the only non-canon one who got as far as having a place for him sketched into designs of the lighthouse: “saarbrak’s planning room”. mentions and sightings of what might be him are sporadic and i think you only see his name on that sketch, but i’m connecting it to the description “a potential qunari companion evolved from saarebas to dapper qunari spy, offering a deeper look into qunari culture”
the embroidery on harding’s clothes is how she passes the time while “waiting for days in a sniper perch” on missions. i just thought that was cute

Are Nevarran Circles different than the southern ones, in that mages are allowed to marry, or retain noble titles? I know in previous games we had codex entries about Circles in the Anderfels, the Free Marches and in Rivain, but I can't recall anything being said about how they are generally run in Nevarra.
"Ever forward, ever deathward."
I love Nevarra and mages so this is such a good question for me! I'm giddy with excitement.
So, Nevarran Circles and their relationsip with magic are different compared to Southern and other Northern Thedas areas. I'll break it down for you:
Nevarra & Factions
Nevarra is known for it's unique approach to death and it's relationship with magic. Nevarra is unique in that they do not burn their dead but mummify them instead; they are then placed in tombs such as the Grand Necropolis. Nevarra also believes that when a person dies, their soul displaces a fade spirit when their soul crosses the veil - they can manifest as wisps that you see in the Necropolis, where some will take the form of remains or objects.
Nevarra is also unique in the sens that they have fraternitys among their mages in additiion to the Circle of Magi. One in particualr known as the Mortalitasi. The Mortalitasi are tasked with the responsibiliyu for the transfer and mummification of Nevarran Elite, other fraternites such as the Mourn Watch, will tend to the dead of other Neverrans. The Mortalitasi hold significant polital power and influence in Nevarra - the most in Thedas.
The Mourn Watch is a sub-faction order within the Mortalitasi who hold absolute authority over funeray dead. You must be invited to join this order. The Mourn Watch serve as the keepers of the Grand Necroplis and deal with magic that had gone awry - particularly corpse possession and funeray rights. The Mourn Watch assist the living and the dead with the process of death - often guiding he lviing to visit their passed loved ones in the Necropolis. It is a honour to join the Mourn Watch as they hold themselves to very high standards.
The Mortalitasi and it's subfactions (i.e., Mourn Watch) are privy to wealth, status, and political power. These mages are considered mysterious and fearful to members outside of the organisation and other parts of Thedas due to their reputation of being a death cult.
Circle of Magi
Mages within a Circle, including in Nevarra, are permitted to marry other members of the circle and individuals outside of it, with permission. Despite it being impractical, this permission is purely dependant on the circle itself. Some forbade it, and other allow it. It can also depend on the reputation of the mage itself.
For Mortalitasi and Mourn Watch mages, the rules are more looser due to their power and influence in Nevarra. Due to Emmrich stating in Veilguard that he had wished to of been married one day, it is likely that these rules for mages within these factions do not apply as strictly. This is due to the regional belief in about the relatiosnhip between death and magic and the Mortalitasi being the gatekeepers.
Whilst the Chantry still has absolute law of mages, Nevarra has more free reign due to it's culture.
Templars are welcome within the walls of the Grand Necropolis, however there is a tactit agreement that the Mourn Watch is better equipped to deal with any issues within the Necropolis.
Tldr, it is likely possible for members of the Mortalitasi to hold titles, own land, and be married due to the power and influence they hold within the region.
Hopefully that answers your question ♥

Dragon Age: The Veilguard | High-Level Combat Parts 1-4 writeup
This post also contains transcriptions of the text that was in the video.
This was a four-part video series which has also been edited into a single standalone video for convenience. The video features an elven Warrior Rook from the Grey Warden background and who has taken the Champion spec.
Story/plot, flavor stuff, and other cool stuff
The footage in the new gameplay video was edited to avoid major spoilers, but there is still new story information in there.
Weisshaupt Fortress, the headquarters of the Grey Warden order located in the Anderfels, is under attack and under siege from the Blighted elven god Ghilan'nain, her Archdemon, and darkspawn. The darkspawn are following Ghilan'nain's orders. Rook and the Veilguard must stop her. They set off to find their allies in Weisshaupt and soon meet resistance from the darkspawn. Lots of sacs of Blight corruption are growing on the buildings that make up the fortress. Blight sacs (or something that looks like them. the lil parachute things) fall on the fortress too like missiles. Ghil's face watches the siege from the stormy sky.
This quest is called "The Siege of Weisshaupt". The fact that Weisshaupt would come under attack from the weird darkspawn and a dragon in DA:TV actually first emerged as a detail during a leak a few years ago. Stages and objectives in this questline include "Get to the War Room (Move along the wall)", "Find the dragon trap (Move along the wall)", "Find the dragon trap (Defeat the darkspawn)" and "Get to the Library (Defeat the darkspawn)". I'd guess that said dragon trap in this instance is for Ghil's Archdemon, though it makes sense why the Wardens would even have such a thing as a dragon trap seeing as the Archdemons, when they rise, are in dragon form. Could it be anything like the setup that had confined Ataashi in Trespasser? Also, lore says that Weisshaupt is home to an extensive library.
As this is high-level combat gameplay, the implication could potentially be that this storybeat occurs during the mid-to-late game?
It seems that at times certain companions are required to be taken along on certain quests (iirc this was previously reported in an article somewhere too). For example, Davrin is required during The Siege of Weisshaupt, as it is a Grey Warden quest and he is the Grey Warden companion.
I think Warden Rook's surname is Thorne (Grey Warden symbol in the image). The Rook in the video has the first name "Esha".
Solas' Lyrium dagger isn't only a story thing/magic maguffin artifact that can tear the Veil. When Rook gets it, it appears to have a function/use in gameplay as well. Rook can attach 3 runes to it in different slots. These runes have various functions and effects e.g. Scorch.
The companions are described like this:
Bellara - "Veil Jumper"
Davrin - "Grey Warden"
Emmrich - "Mourn Watcher"
Harding - "Inquisition Agent" (Agent of the remnants?)
Lucanis - "Antivan Crow"
Neve - "Shadow Dragon"
Taash - "Lord of Fortune"
We see additional descriptions for some of them:
Davrin - "Sword-and-board monster hunter commands a griffon"
Lucanis - "Swift and precise assassin with a demonic aura"
Emmrich - "Nevarran professor of death summons spirits"
Harding - "Potion-slinging scout's arrows shock and shred"
(I love these lil descriptions btw, the way they're written is like poetry)
Along with his demonic aura, Lucanis (called "The Demon" per TN) has an ability called Abominate. Implications.. intriguing :D
Lucanis' abilities tend towards crowd control. Davrin can call Assan to attack in battle. He flies down like a meteor or comet and it's so cool. :)
The video includes a bit of flavor text for Grey Wardens from an ability description and a specialization description:
Ultimate Ability [of Grey Warden Rook, presumably] – Warden’s Fire Unleash a barrage of strikes with the burning strength that resides within every Grey Warden. [this does fire damage] Specialization – Champion The pinnacle of Grey Warden combat prowess. The Champion is a born leader who rallies their allies, turns their fervor into flame, and wields a shield as a deadly weapon.
(^ The fire damage and fire motif contained in the above makes sense as darkspawn are vulnerable to elemental fire damage. also, I think when Rook uses Warden's Fire, they blow a horn 'Gondor calls for aid' style, which is super cool.)
The video includes new lore in the form of item descriptions for various gear pieces. Each item appears to be associated with one of the factions, as it has that faction's sigil on its info box.
These guys are darkspawn ghouls. One type is called a Greater Ghoul. (Does that imply the existence of "Lesser Ghouls" or just "Ghouls"?) These are melee mobs. Another darkspawn enemy type is Greater Hurlock Spiker. Those are ranged mobs that throw the spikes from their backs. There are also regular Greater Hurlocks (I think those are these guys) and Greater Hurlock Blighters. The Blighters seem to have sacs of red Blight corruption on their backs, and you can see them throwing globs of this around, thereby spreading the Blight like their name suggests. it seems like these globs explode after impact like grenades or bombs. of course, all darkspawn spread Blight, but that's like an evolution of spreading.
The video features new music.
Enemies can be Sparta-kicked off ledges. Throw your shield like Captain America! (or at least its energy-shadow thing) This Rook has an ability called Titan Stomp.
Lucanis sometimes leaps around in a dramatic burst of crow feathers, kinda flying (it feels like) down from above like a bird of prey.
Tumblr media
Thoughts, speculation
Gameplay looks super cool and fun oh shit!
If the plotbeats described above (Ghil, Archdemon, Weisshaupt siege etc) aren't considered by BioWare to be "major spoilers", it makes me wonder about the plotbeats and twists they aren't revealing that would be. yknow?
Tumblr media
If Ghilan'nain has an Archdemon, might Elgar'nan also? We've seen different concept art pieces and scenes with two dragons in them, and we have long speculated about a 'Double Blight' of some kind. Two Elven Gods have risen; handily, prior to DA:TV beginning, two Old Gods/Archdemons remained (Razikale and Lusacan). In DA:TV teaser murals and art pieces, the concentric circles motif still had the two 'lit' hemispheres around the outside. If they both have one, which Old God is paired with which Evanuris? BUT. Saying that. alternate theory. how do we even know that her Archdemon is a real Archdemon? Corypheus in DA:I used red lyrium to transform a High dragon into an imitation of an archdemon, his red lyrium dragon. Thedosians initially presumed that this was a real Archdemon. if Cory can do it, why not Ghil and Elgar'nan? Ghil at least has clearly been messing with red lyrium given the red lyrium darkspawn.
I hope we get to visit Weisshaupt at some point before the siege takes place, I'd like to see it as it was and explore it a bit before that happens. 🥺 Weisshaupt in the game looks so like previous concept arts we saw of it (one, two), it's so cool to see all the art pieces come to game-life as assets in-game. also I love all the lil griffon assets around Weisshaupt, like the sleepy statue. and could this scene be the Weisshaupt War Room?
On Ghil's face in the storm: on DA Day 2023 BioWare said:
"To the far west, three Grey Wardens patrol the Anderfels. Tremors have been causing disturbances of late. Their cause is unknown. Upon the distant horizon, a storm of ominous intent brews and darkens the skies."
they were being literal ig about the storm of ominous intent darkening the skies! and then I guess the storm in this concept art of Weisshaupt is the Ghilstorm.
Why would Ghil attack Weisshaupt with darkspawn? I'm sure there's more to it underneath the surface, but from what we know so far, the elven gods are "corrupt"/"Blighted" and are "hellbent on Blighting the world". and if you want to spread a Blight, it makes sense that you would target.. the HQ of the world's main and only defense against the Blight. it's also not a surprise that she is doing so (I don't mean this in a disparaging way. I just mean 'stories put out clues and foreshadowing for the next plotbeats, and if you were following the clues as intended' etc) - we knew that the Anderfels had been experiencing unknown tremors lately and that a storm of ominous intent was brewing there. also, the new darkspawn are mutated and in TN the Wardens discovered in Hormak that Ghil had/has twelve (now eleven) secret underground monster pools in the Deep Roads that mutate darkspawn. lyrium was also involved in that instance, albeit yellow-green.
Ghil's attack on Weisshaupt also explains why in the Thedas Calls teaser trailer, it sounded like Weisshaupt was under attack and under imminent threat. (Ctrl+F "Weisshaupt" in this post for more on that). For example, the line "Grey Wardens don’t hide in our castle. I won’t ask good soldiers to turn tail and run." - this sounds like a dialogue line spoken by a senior Warden specifically during the Seige of Weisshaupt.
Tumblr media
It also explains why in this Thedas Calls shot of Weisshaupt, Weisshaupt looks afflicted by red lyrium, there's a dark ominous storm vibe, and things look ruined/threatened. and it explains screenshots and scenes like this and why in the character reveal trailer Davrin was fighting red lyrium darkspawn in a Blighted dark area with griffon assets. (read the "Davrin" section here for more)
"They set off to find their allies in Weisshaupt and soon meet resistance from the darkspawn" - could this be Evka and Antoine? :)
I don't think we see any or many Wardens around in the sections of this quest that we see in this video. I definitely saw at least one dead one. what has befallen them? I hope some of them are surviving somewhere inside the fortress ;-; and where is the First Warden in all this? also, this must be awful for Davrin to see :< A Grey Warden witnessing the attack of your order's heart.
Fighting a darkspawn siege on the walls and roof of a famous fortress is giving me Battle of Denerim, Fort Drakon-DA:O-style vibes and memories. it's perfect :)
With Lucanis' demonic aura and Abominate ability, it's probably time to revisit the idea that there's something inchresting/spirit-demonny going on there. I'm curious to see the take on it this time around and how it differs to e.g. Wynne, Anders.
I love the way hair and capes flip around and move in battle!
Tumblr media
^ Ghil's Archdemon, or "Archdemon"? At this point it also looks like.. sacs of Blighted corruption (or something) are falling from the sky down onto Weisshaupt/being launched at Weisshaupt by the darkspawn/Ghil as part of the seige!! jesus!!
Some random other posts of things like stuff I noticed: Davrin and Lucanis height comparison (who knows if it's to scale on that screen though), Summon Baby Button, Davrin and Lucanis icons, Lucanis' smirk, Davrin picture compilation, Emmrich and Harding on the party screen, darkspawn advance, useable trebuchet/dead Warden/giant ominous tube, aeries?/griffon lamp/+2 Heartwood
Item description lore
Each item appears to be associated with a faction, as it has that faction's sigil on its info box. For example, the Golden Casque helm is a Lord of Fortune item.
GEAR WIELDED BY ROOK "Golden Casque – rare heavy helm – [Lords of Fortune] Tall and plumed, this fine helmet is the color of gold – but much harder to dent. The Iron Cast – rare heavy armor – [Mourn Watch] This armor’s vividly sculpted musculature is a testament to Nevarra’s unrivalled knowledge of anatomy. Necropolis Defender – rare targe [a targe is a type of shield historically used by Scottish Highlanders] – [Mourn Watch] The elite guards who stand watch at the gates of the Grand Necropolis use these shields to guard against both the living and the dead. Spellbound Longsword – rare longsword – [Shadow Dragons] This enchanted longsword is bound with burning magic. Andraste’s Will – unique ring – [Shadow Dragons] Andraste was tied to a stake and burned while her earthly husband turned his armies aside and did nothing, for his heart had been devoured. Amaranthine Loop – uncommon ring – [Antivan Crows] Favored by Crows, the uniform rows of stones add balance and precision to every blow. Also some elegance. Heart of Andraste – uncommon amulet – [Lords of Fortune] A charm given to newly anointed Fathers of the Imperial Chantry, the cracked stone serves as a reminder of Andraste’s mortal heart." Rook was also wielding a big hammer and wearing a belt, the icon did not pass over their infoboxes during the video. GEAR WIELDED BY DAVRIN "Blight Killer – rare longsword – [Grey Wardens] An intimidating, one-of-a-kind sword cut from solid obsidian. It is perfectly balanced. Reforged Bulwark – uncommon heater (shield) – [Grey Wardens] Reclaimed from the ruins of an old Warden stronghold, this shield honors the sacrifices of Wardens past while defending their future." Davrin was also wielding his iconic/default armor and what looked like a dagger or shortsword. The icon did not pass over their infoboxes during the video.
Part 1
Text notes in this part:
"Combat Part 1: Prepare For Battle This is an introduction to high-level combat. Footage has been edited for brevity and to avoid major spoilers. Weisshaupt Fortress is under attack from Ghilan’nain and her Archdemon. Rook and the Veilguard must stop her. Let’s get your warrior ready for battle. Abilities & Runes -  Assign abilities and an ultimate attack before jumping into battle. - Equip runes to enhance your power set and access unique abilities when activated. - Choose runes that boost a Warrior’s damage and help with crowd control. Skill Tree - Each combat class has an array of specializations to choose from. - Your Rook has chosen the Champion branch, which favors strong defensive skills. - Utilizing passive abilities like Heavy Armor Mastery will help boost defense if you are equipped with all heavy armor. - You’re going to be battling darkspawn, who are vulnerable to fire. Fiery Resolve will grant us “Flaming Weapons” for a duration when we parry an enemy attack. - We’ll be doing a deep dive on progression systems in the future. Inventory - For this build, you’ll want a full set of heavy armor to activate our Heavy Armor Mastery passive. - Rook is primarily using a Sword & Shield since it allows you to be more defensive. - If you prefer a more aggressive playstyle, two-handed weapons deal more damage, but have fewer defensive options. - The Spellbound Longsword deals high Stagger and can trigger powerful takedowns. - We’ll cover Stagger in Part of this series. - Rook has a fire-based, darkspawn-killer build. - This ring grants a bonus to the max number of burning stacks, which results in more damage over time. - This is just one type of build. Other examples include customizing to emphasize your Shield Toss or Takedowns. - Personalize yours to fit your preferred playstyle. - Selected companions can aid Rook by equipping complementary gear and passives. - This is a Grey Warden mission, so you should bring Davrin into battle with you. [Character selection screen] - In addition to Davrin, you decide to take Lucanis into battle based on his crowd control abilities."
Tumblr media
This is what the character screen looks like. There are 'pages' for Map, Character, Companions, Skills and Library. (Library is for the codexes basically).
Gear-wise Rook can equip two different weapons (in this case they have a sword+shield and also a hammer in the 2h slot), helmet, an armor, and what looks like 1 belt/accessory, 1 necklace/accessory and 2 rings. Helmet has a 'hide helmet' toggle. Additionally, the Lyrium dagger has slots for 3 runes. There are also slots at the bottom for 3 abilities and 1 Ultimate Attack (I think). I think the Ultimate ability is based on Rook's background.
Tumblr media
There looks like there's 3 different types of things we gather, plus another submenu if you press triangle to see the resources (heartwood etc). The one on the right looks like gold/coin. I wonder what the other two are?
Tumblr media
This is what the equivalent pane for Davrin looks like in the Companions menu. Companions have less customizable gear slots than Rook.
Tumblr media
This looks like the relationship meter. In this save, Davrin seems to be at relationship level 4 with Rook, a stage which is called "Comrade in Arms".
Tumblr media
This is what the 'choose your team'/'gather your party' screen looks like. The companions' cards are these art pieces. At this point in this save, Neve is the only one with the Veilguard sigil above her card. Michael Gamble tweeted that this means "she is a hero of the Veilguard." [source] Maybe this means that her 'loyalty mission', or this game's equivalent thereof, has been completed so that Neve has been able to fully commit to the Veilguard?
Part 2
Text notes in this part:
“Combat Part 2: The Basics Now that Rook, Davrin & Lucanis have the right gear and skills, the team sets off to find their allies. Soon, they are met with resistance by the darkspawn, blighted creatures following Ghilan’nain’s orders. Assess The Battlefield - First, learn the enemy types to strategically exploit their weaknesses. Darkspawn are vulnerable to fire. - You will also see that they are resistant to Necrosis. - Enemies have a multitude of damage vulnerabilities and resistances. - Abilities which exploit weaknesses have a green outline. - Rook encounters a swarm of darkspawn ghouls who favor overwhelming melee. - The ghouls are joined by Hurlock spikers, ranged combatants who are also vulnerable to fire. - Time a Shield Block to parry an incoming attack, which provides an opportunity for a high-damage counterattack. - With this successful parry, the Fiery Resolve passive skill activates Flaming Weapons. Melee attacks will now do fire damage instead of physical. - Use the Kick ability to deal massive damage and knock enemies off ledges. - Shield Throw is an effective ranged attack that can destroy obstacles and quickly close the gap between you and an enemy. - Health pots are available throughout the world. Grab them to prepare for what’s ahead. - Use the Ability Wheel to pause the action, cast abilities, and direct your companions. - Some enemies have tougher additional protection that needs to be removed. A yellow bar indicates Armor Barrier. - Armor is resistant to most attacks. Heavy attacks are the most effective against it. - Here, the darkspawn horde begins to overwhelm. - You can cast Spectral Bulwark, which damages enemies who land melee hits. - This allows you to fearlessly get into the thick of battle. - Enemies have a lavender stagger bar that builds when you land hits. - While an enemy is Staggered, they take bonus damage, and you can deliver a powerful takedown."
Part 3
Text notes in this part:
“Combat Part 3: Buffs, Debuffs, & Crowd Control You’ve mastered your core abilities. Now it’s time to face down a variety of enemies, all at once. Spacing Strategy - This Rook is a Warrior, specializing in the Champion branch, which favors a defensive style of fighting. - Warriors are front-line fighters capable of devastating, up-close attacks. - Rook and their companions can also deploy different tools, such as area-of-effect attacks to uniquely manage various enemies. Buffs & Debuffs - Additionally, activate companion buffs and debuffs to apply status effects. - One example of a buff is Lucanis’ Adrenaline Rush ability which enhances Rook’s damage stats. - Davrin has Heroic Strike, which applies the overwhelmed debuff. This causes the target to take additional Stagger. Crowd Control - This build activates the Shield Volley Passive, which ricochets your shield 3 times if you hit it with a heavy attack. - Rook is getting attacked on all sides, so you command Lucanis to use Abominate to knock enemies down. Fighting At A Distance - Use abilities, like Davrin’s Death From Above, to deal damage from afar. - Or use your Grappling Spear to pull them close.”
Part 4
Text notes in this part:
“Combat Part 4: Primers, Detonators, & Ultimates As your fight progresses, use primers, detonators, and ultimates with strategic timing to turn the tide of battle. Primers & Detonators - Rook can create incredibly damaging combo detonations with the help of their companions. - Assess the situation, and determine which primers and detonators work best against each enemy type. - Command Davrin to Taunt to gather nearby enemies. - Activate the Crystallize rune to freeze the gathered group in place. - Lucanis can use Eviscerate to detonate the combo and strike the whole group. Ultimate Attacks - As the battle progresses, Rook can unleash a destructive ultimate attack. - Now that you’ve mastered these combat strategies and tactics, let’s see them all in action."
Abilities, passives etc
For these I focused mostly on the move’s name + its description. In some cases there's sort of two as there's the one from the Ability Wheel and the one from the Skill Tree.
ROOK Driving Kick – Focus all your strength and determination into one mighty kick. / Deals a very high amount of Stagger. Grappling Spear – Harpoon your targets with a strong throw and drag them in for a closer encounter. / Pulls your target towards you. Press [button] or [button] to perform a follow-up attack Spectral Bulwark – Hone your guard and protect yourself from enemies foolish enough to attack. Enemies who hit you with a melee attack take damage and very high […]. / While active, enemies who hit you with a melee attack take damage and very high Stagger. [Ultimate] Warden’s Fire – Unleash a barrage of strikes with the burning strength that resides within every Grey Warden. Applies Burning to enemies [Specialization] Champion – The pinnacle of Grey Warden combat prowess. The Champion is a born leader who rallies their allies, turns their fervor into flame, and wields a shield as a deadly weapon. [Greater Passive] Heavy Armor Mastery - +Defense while wearing a heavy helm and armor. You are now less likely to be disrupted when getting hit. [Greater Passive] Fiery Resolve – Gain Flaming Weapons on Perfect Defense. Flaming Weapons lasts 50% longer. Titan Stomp – Deals very high Stagger to nearby enemies. LUCANIS Adrenaline Rush – Grants enhanced damage Abominate – Deals high Barrier damage and applies Knocked down to enemies in the area Eviscerate – At half health of less, this deals bonus damage, increasing in effectiveness the closer the target is to death DAVRIN Death From Above – Deals high Stagger [summons Assan to attack] Heroic Strike – Deals high Stagger Battle Cry – Applies Taunted to enemies in the area
There were also names and info popups of different runes, e.g. Mend.

Chapter 3 DATV Masterlist Chapter 5
Tumblr media
We met with Harding’s Warden contacts in the High Anderfels. Antoine and Evka were both very sweet and seemed like they wanted to help. They said they had noticed some things about the Blight that lined up with what we were seeing, everything the First Warden didn’t believe.
They told us about another Warden in the area who was pulled into another mission. Lucanis and I made our way to his last known location. There was a tent and a fire still halfway burning.
“Well, I’d say we found the camp.” Lucanis crouched down on the opposite side of the fire from me. “So did some darkspawn, looks like.”
“They left the fire burning,” Lucanis said.
“Were they ambushed?” Lucanis and I glanced at each other.
We heard a screech, both looking toward the sound. I crossed behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder. He rose from his crouched position behind me as I tried to find the source of the sound.
The creature screeched again, this time louder, and a ball of feathers was fiving at me, about the size of a mabari. I held my hands out, trying to keep the creature from attacking me. By description, it looked like a griffon, but that couldn’t be right. Griffons were extinct.
“Assan!” A deep voice yelled close by. I looked over seeing a handsome, dark skinned elf. The griffon pounced over to him as he walked up to us, sticking close to his side. “Easy boy.” The man smoothed a hand over his feathers.
“I’ll be damned… a griffon,” I said.
“Trouble is, he’s not sure what you are. Neither am I,” the man said.
“Rook,” I said. “Evka and Antoine sent us. We’re looking for Davrin.”
“You found him. Mind telling me why you smell like darkspawn?” He asked. “Griffons hunt darkspawn.”
“We don’t smell that bad. It’s the tent,” I explained.
“Blight? Where are Lancit and Remi?”
“The camp was empty when we got here,” I told him.
We heard a raged cry from somewhere distant. “Assan! To the trees!” Davrin commanded. “Try to keep up!” He told us.
After killing lots of darkspawn, and finding all of the griffons locked up in cages sealed with blood magic, we found what Davrin called the “Gloom Howler”. Some kind of Darkspawn, undead, bitch queen.
She got away and took the griffons with her before we could stop her.
The four of us made our way back through the eluvian and the Caretaker took us between islands in the Crossroads.
Neve, Harding, and Bellara came running toward us, looking panicked. “What’s happened?” I asked with a furrowed brow.
“The Viper just sent word. Minrathous is under attack by a blighted dragon,” Neve said.
“Has to be the one we saw at D’Meta’s Crossing,” I said.
“Well, one of them has to be,” Harding replied.
“What do you mean, “one of them”?” Lucanis questioned.
“Teia also got in touch. Another dragon is attacking Treviso, too,” Harding told him.
“Mierda,” Lucanis cursed.
“You got back just in time,” Harding said to me.
I took a breath, putting my hands on my hips. “Alright. What do we know?”
“Two dragons at once? Has to be the gods behind it,” she said.
“Teviso’s a merchant city. It has no defenses. And the canals run everywhere,” Lucanis told me. “If we don’t stop that dragon, people will die. Innocent people. My people. They either die right away, from the dragon. Or slowly after, from blight in the water. We need to go to Treviso.”
“And leave Minrathous to burn?” Neve questioned. “You’re a Shadow Dragon, Rook. You know the Viper, Tarquin, every damn Shadow… We’ll fight to the end. But people will get hurt. Or worse,” she said. “And if we fail? The Venatori will take advantage. They’ll make a push for the throne. And hand the gods the entire Tevinter Empire.”
“If we decide to—”
“Damn it! There’s no time!” Neve interrupted me. “It’s my city. Our city. I need to be in Minrathous.”
“And I must go to Treviso,” Lucanis said. “Go where you feel you must, Rook. We cannot wait.”
Without another word, Neve and Lucanis both ran off. “What’s our move, Rook?” Harding asked.
I ran over what I knew for certain in my head. Minrathous had defenses, including the Archon Palace. I was certain that me and two others would not be able to make much of a difference against a dragon. But I did know that Treviso was already under occupation and its people wouldn’t survive without some extra aid. I also knew that as much as Neve said Minrathous was my city, I was its slave long before I was its savior.
I took a breath, my chest feeling tight with the weight of this decision. “We help Lucanis in Treviso. We have to trust that the Shadow Dragons can take care of things in Minrathous. That said… two of you should join Neve there. See if you can help. And we’ll head to Treviso.”
“Understood,” Davrin said.
“Let’s all try to make it through this alive, all right?”
I brought Davrin with me, leaving the other two to go to Minrathous with Neve. I had to trust that they would be alright. I couldn’t afford to be distracted right now, lest I risk my own hide. When we got to Treviso, the city was burning.
Davrin and I made our way through the city, killing Antaam as we went. With the dragon trying to kill everyone, I suppose they saw their chance to really take over. Or, even worse, they were working for the Gods. ‘Cause that’s what we needed. More enemies.
We ran through the courtyard, seeing Lucanis and Teia up ahead. Lucanis looked so relieved to see us. “Rook! You’re just in time. Where the dragon attacks, the Antaam soon follow.”
“It is strong and fast. You must get its attention, then lure it onto the ground,” Teia said, hands on her hips.
“We’ll figure out a way,” I said, mimicking her stance.
“Draw up your courage,” she said. “We will need it.”
We took up position in the field, Davrin on my right and Lucanis on my left. Ghilan’nain, the horrible beast that she now was, all tentacles and no heart, demanded the dagger from me and said that Treviso offered nothing more than a pawn for Elgar’nan. She clearly couldn’t see the beauty it held.
She sent the dragon after us to retrieve the dagger. Most of my time was spent dodging blows as I tried to keep it off the other two, allowing them to actually hit it.
Enough of my panic built up, that I was able to aim some of it back at the dragon in the form of lightning and fire, beamed directly at its heart. Before we could bring it down, Ghilan’nain called it away, saying she had need of it elsewhere.
“You fought it off!” Teia ran over to us.
Lucanis clutched at a wound on his leg as he limped over to us. “If Ghilan’nain hadn’t called it away…”
“It’s more important that it stopped attacking the city,” I told him, casting a worried glance at the blood staining him.
“Everyone with a home that still stands will agree,” Teia said.
“That thing was tough. It’ll be hard to put down for good,” I sighed.
“What happened to Treviso would’ve been worse if you hadn’t arrived when you did. I cannot imagine how much worse,” Lucanis said looking at me gratefully.
“Still have to help with that dragon in Minrathous,” Davrin said.
“Let’s go,” I said.
—-------------------------------------
Minrathous was covered in Blight by the time we reached it. The streets were crawling with darkspawn and buildings were on fire. Even as I knew I made the right choice, it hurt to see this place like this. I had more bad memories here than good ones, but the good ones outweighed the negative. This was where I met Varric, after all.
We found Neve and Tarquin huddled around Ashur who was on a table, looking miserable and wounded.
“We’re here. What’s the situation?” I asked.
“Where were you?” Neve demanded.
“Treviso. The dragon—”
“This is your city! I thought—”
“My city?!” I almost laughed in her face. “You mean the city I was enslaved to? You mean the city that showed me and other people like me no kindness? The city that’s been corrupted since the beginning of Thedas?”
“And because we were busy fighting the bigger evil, the Venatori took large parts of the city!” She yelled. “We lost people. And Ashur…”
“I’m fine,” he grunted. “She’s right.”
“You are not fine,” Tarquin said, standing. “He took a claw to the gut. A claw from a blighted dragon. Think about that,” he said to me.
“The blight’s in his blood. But that means…” All my fire was gone, and I was just exhausted.
“A slow death,” Neve finished.
“You’ve brought nothing but trouble since you came back,” Tarquin growled.
My brows furrowed, pained and hurt. Dorian led me to them and all I did was fuck everything up. Lucanis stepped closer, almost protectively.
“It’s not Rook’s fault,” Ashur said. “I chose to engage it.”
“Because it was going for a safe house! Because half of us were already dead!” Tarquin shouted.
“Do you honestly think one more fucking person would’ve changed the outcome?” I questioned.
Tarquin spun on me. “No, but maybe you would be dying instead of him.”
I physically recoiled from the hatred in his eyes, my gut twisting with nausea. I bumped into Lucanis, and he steadied me with a hand on my waist.
“Just go. There’s nothing you can do here,” Neve said, looking over at Ashur.
—-------------------------------
I stumbled through the eluvian in the lighthouse, clutching my chest. My stomach churned, and I thought I might throw up.
“Rook!” I heard Bellara behind me, but I didn’t stop, heading straight through the hall and up the stairs. I couldn’t do this, I couldn’t lead, I wasn’t cut out for it.
I let my feet guide me and before I knew it, I was in the infirmary. Varric looked alarmed as I collapsed to my knees beside his bed, tears rolling down my cheeks. “I fucked up,” I whimpered. “I fucked up, Varric.”
“Hey, hey, hey, kid, take a breath.” He shifted, and I felt his warm hand on my shoulder, gripping me just tight enough to bring me back to reality. “What happened?”
“Minrathous---” I started, getting cut off by a sob. “Minrathous is burning. They took it- The gods took it, and Neve…” My body shook, wracked with sobs as I tried to breathe. “She’s so mad. I don’t think she’s coming back, Varric.” I looked up at him with bleary eyes.
He moved, sliding to the edge of the bed until I was between his legs, and he pulled me into his chest. “Easy, kid.” He had one arm tight around my shoulders, his other hand smoothing my hair. “You can’t save everyone. That’s the life.”
“Neve trusted me. She trusted me and Minrathous is burning now,” I whimpered, squeezing my eyes shut and trying to suck up the warmth he was giving me. It was so hard to breathe.
“You made a decision based on what limited knowledge you had,” Varric said. “No one can ask any more of you than that. Neve will come back around. Give her time.”
“We don’t have time, Varric,” I said desperately.
“So keep moving forward. That’s what you do, Rook. That’s what you’ve always done,” he said. “She’ll either come around or she won’t. But you can’t afford to spend what little time you have regretting your choices. Let me ask you something: Do you regret the choice you made? Or just Neve?”
I felt silent in contemplation. “I made the right choice,” I said carefully. “Treviso has no defenses, and it’s under occupation by the Antaam. I couldn’t have changed the outcome in Minrathous.” I had to believe that, if nothing else.
Varric squeezed my shoulder, and I pulled back, looking up at him. He smiled with that softness in his eyes that was just reserved for me. He put his thumb and forefinger under my chin so I looked at him. “Then you did the right thing,” he said simply. Carefully, he used his thumbs to wipe my face of tears. “Cheer up, kid. The night may be long, but it isn’t all dark.”
I heard what he said and what he didn’t. Minrathous was doomed to fall some day. We had been fighting a losing battle regardless, much as I hated to leave behind the people there. Half of them were under Venatori control, and the other half were too helpless to fight against it.
“Chin up, Rook. I think the others need you,” he told me.
I nodded, sniffling and wiping the remainder of my tears from my chin and jaw. “I need to talk to Solas.”
“If Chuckles pisses you off too much, hit him for me,” he said as he slid back up to the wall.
I couldn’t help but laugh a bit, shaking my head as I left.
---------------------------------------
“When last we spoke, you were hunting for followers of Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain in hopes of finding “specifics”. Has your search been successful?” Solas asked.
“You could say that. It looks like both the Venatori and the Antaam are working for Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain,” I told him.
“Unsurprising. The Venatori want magical secrets, and the Antaam want to destroy anyone opposing their brutal expansion. Both will readily bow to anyone who promises them power.”
“It’s more than a promise this time. The Antaam and the Venatori both have dragons doing their bidding.”
“Dragons?” He said surprised. “That is worse than I had feared.”
“Yeah. We drove off the one the Antaam brought to Treviso—barely,” I crossed my arms.
“Have you determined how the dragons are being directed? If it is blood magic, it may be possible to disrupt their control.”
“The dragons are blighted. We think that’s what let the gods control them.”
“The blight. Of course.”
“The blight seems to be the gods’ favored tool right now. We ran into Venatori who could control darkspawn,” I said.
“Elgar’nan would not bestow such power unless the darkspawn were to serve as the main force of his army. And I suspect Ghilan’nain will see the darkspawn as new subjects for her… modifications.”
“We’ve already run into a few darkspawn nobody has seen before. That’s in addition to the blighted dragons.”
“That is the fate Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain plan for this world, then. Corruption and blighted slavery,” Solas said, hands clasped behind his back.
“Right… Everyone should be free and uncorrupted when your demons and raw magic kill them,” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Do you truly believe my goal was to destroy this world?” He asked.
“I believe you’re ‘goal’, like you said, was to transfer the gods to a better prison—the one you’re stuck in now. And you were willing to tear down the Veil and destroy with world while you did so,” I spat.
“The Veil is a wound I cut into the Fade in a moment of desperation while aking their prison. It should not exist. I had a host of spirits ready to help when the Veil fell. They would have minimized the loss of life.”
“Do you have any idea what you sound like? You could’ve actually saved the world from the blight, but instead you chose to kill thousands of people with your vanity project!” I shouted.
“It is not vanity! I broke this world. I am the only one who can fix it!”
His shouting didn’t faze me with the huge ravine and the Fade between us. “Spoken like a god,” I said with all the contempt I felt.
“I am not a god! I am as I have always been: a man, all too aware of his failings… But equally aware that if he did not act, accepting the judgment it would bring, all would be lost. They called me the Dread Wolf. What will they call you, when this is over?” He wondered.
“I don’t care what they call me. If they’re calling me anything, it means they’re still alive. That’s all that matters.”
“Acceptance. You are willing to face the consequences your actions may one day bring, because the world needs you. I believe I can work with that.” He smiled, though it felt anything but sincere. “If the gods are using dragons, you will wish to find someone trained to fight them. Have you unlocked the lighthouse eluvian?”
“Yes. We found the Crossroads. It’s still confusing, though.”
“I cannot help you from in here. You may need to find an expert in the magic of the Fade. And if the Darkspawn are to be Elgar’nan’s army, you will need Grey Wardens to fight them.”
“I’ve got a few of them. Their leaders don’t trust me right now, though.”
“I have faith in you, Rook,” Solas said. “You seem to have a knack for gaining the cooperation of your adversaries.”
---------------------------------------
I woke up in a cold sweat---as I often did these days---to someone thumping against my door. I moved over to it quickly, brows furrowing. When I opened it, I had to catch Lucanis. He was struggling to stand, but when he spoke, it was Spite coming through his teeth.
“The idiot is still bleeding. Help him.”
“Walk with me,” I supported him with his arm over my shoulders, and I led him to my chaise lounge. When he sat, the purple glow from Lucanis’s eyes was gone, and he slumped, unconscious. “Fenedhis.”
I could see the blood seeping through the bandage on his leg, staining his loungewear dark red.
“Gods dammit, Lucanis,” I grumbled. I looked up at his unconscious form, regretting what I was about to do before I could even do it. I reached for the buttons on his pants, undoing them and pulling them down to his knees, keeping my eyes on the bandaged wound.
My fingers fumbled with the knot before finally getting it undone, unraveling it, lifting his boot onto my knee to pull the bandage from under his leg. When I got to the wound, I looked at it with furrowed brows. It looked like there was a piece of jagged rock stuck in there, which would explain why it didn’t clot properly.
I sighed, hovering my hand over the wound and pulling the piece of shrapnel with my magic. Lucanis winced. “Sorry. I’m sorry,” I whispered, putting just a bit more power until it flew up and smacked my palm. I set it with the bandages next to him. “Nasty little thing.”
Carefully, I held my hand over the wound again, pushing warmth into it and watching it seal closed beneath my magic. When it was healed, I stood, moving to my wardrobe for a fresh cloth to clean the blood up on his leg.
Before I came back around, I heard a startled grunt from Lucanis. His chest seized, staring at the wall of the aquarium across from him. I internally panicked, realizing he spent a year in the bottom of the ocean tortured.
I moved around the chaise with the cloth, putting myself into his direct line of sight. He looked up at me with wide brown eyes. “Rook?”
Slowly, he loosed a breath, looking around. “Hey, it’s alright. We’re in my room. Spite brought you here because of your wound.” I knelt down in front of him again, starting to mop up his blood.
“Of course he did,” he grumbled, looking down at his lap. He cleared his throat. “Isn’t it customary to ask before removing a man’s clothes?”
I rolled my eyes, hitting him with the cloth. “Well, I’m glad you’re feeling better. Well enough to clean yourself.” I stood, throwing the cloth at him.
He caught my wrist as I turned away. “Vuelve mi pequeña polilla, I meant nothing by it.”
My cheeks warmed as he crooned in his native language, and I was pulled back to my knees in front of him, resuming to clean his wound. “You had quite a nasty cut. This was keeping it from closing.” I picked up the piece of jagged rock.
“Mierda,” he cursed, taking it to inspect it. “I wondered.”
“You would be lost without me,” I teased, wiping my hands on the cloth.
“You have no idea,” he muttered.
“I hope the next time we’re like this it’s not because you’re bleeding out,” I grinned, standing and collecting the dirty bandages to dispose of them. I saw Lucanis’s cheeks flush, and I smiled to myself as I left the room to avoid embarrassing him further. I was sure the last thing he wanted was for me to see him indecent and turned on.
❈❈❈
Lucanis pinched the bridge of his nose, looking up at the dancing reflections of water on the ceiling. It was bad enough that he had awoken half naked in a place of his nightmares. But then a complete one-eighty occurred, and he had the woman of his dreams kneeling in front of him with those mismatched eyes and warm smile.
Spite had brought him here, of course he had. And Kalais had just taken care of him like it didn’t take a second thought. And the things she said, mierda, he wished she would stop trailing him like a moth to a flame. It was dangerous, and it wouldn’t end well for either of them. Spite was Lucanis’s only future. To hope for anything else was futile.
Of course that didn’t stop all blood from running southward when she hinted at something more. Something unattainable, something beyond his imagination. Something impossible, and yet all too good for him anyway.
“She. Wants. You!” Spite growled in his ear. “We want. To taste her!”
“Enough, Spite,” Lucanis said, standing and buttoning his pants. He didn’t look at the demon. He wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
“We. Want. Rook! Why?” he questioned.
Lucanis sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I don’t know why you want Rook. Possibly because she’s the only one who’s kind to you, though I can’t figure out why,” he muttered.
“No! You want her,” he said. “Her touch. Soft. Her hair silk. Her breath warm! Her lips. What do they taste like?”
“Enough!” He snapped. “She is not ours to have.”
❈❈❈
We all met around the fire in the dining hall. I filled everyone in on what Solas had said.
“So this elven god thinks we need a dragon hunter and a Fade expert?” Lucanis asked.
“He’s right about the dragon hunter, at least,” Harding said. “The Shadow Dragons did all the could. The dragon was just too much.” I frowned, staring into the fire. “The moment the dust settled? The Venatori rushed in. Guess they knew it was coming.”
My chest suddenly felt tight again.
“Neve’s staying for now. She said she’ll be back soon, but… At least you took care of yours,” Harding said to me.
“We hurt it, but didn’t kill it. The dragon flew off before we could put it down,” I said.
“Treviso could have used a dragon hunter. That much is true,” Lucanis said.
“Don’t remind me. Fewer people injured, and we wouldn’t have to worry about it coming back.” My brow furrowed, and I crossed my arms over my stomach.
“We shouldn’t forget about Minrathous, either. We need to do what we can to help. Though there’s no telling how long Neve will be helping the Shadow Dragons…” Lucanis added.
“Hey, let’s not get stuck in our regrets, all right?” Varric came hobbling over.
“Hang on a minute,” Davrin interrupted. “Not only have you retained the services of a demon assassin, you’re also taking advice from the elven god who attempted to tear down the Veil.”
“Spite is my problem,” Lucanis said defensively.
“That’s what they always say,” Davrin retorted. “Rook, Lucanis is one thing, but do you really trust this Solas?” He asked.
“Trust is such a strong word, you know?”
“So you don’t trust him.”
“Ehhh.”
“All right then.”
Harding said she would ask around about Dragon Hunters, and Bellara said she would get a message through to a Fade expert immediately.
“See, Rook? Nothing to worry about,” Varric said.
“All right. We all know what to do. Let’s get going,” I said to dismiss them.

After the fall of Weisshaupt, and apparent loss of all Warden leadership in the Anderfels, Evka is clearly in charge, so that would logically make her First Warden, at minimum effectively or acting First Warden.
Given that Antoine acts as her second-in-command in all cases, and especially given he takes over training the griffons if you choose for them to stay with the Wardens, does that make him High Constable, or at least effectively High Constable?

Likelihood of companions showing up in Veilguard: my thoughts
So, I was thinking about Veilguard and who I want to come back, so here’s my take on who I think is coming back!
Warden: lol no bitch, we’re never seeing them again. That would require giving them a voice and personality. Likelihood is we get another letter.
Alistair: We’re pretty far from Ferelden, if you made him king I could see him getting a mention but not marching his ass up to Tevinter/Rivain/Antiva/the Anderfels. Possibly another letter. If you kept him a warden, he’s either dead or could possibly show up in the Anderfels? I could see whoever got left in the fade tying in with the Veil Jumper plotline, maybe.
Morrigan: Possibly? Theres a possibility if she drank from the well she’s now bound to Solas because of him killing Mythal. I could see the Veil fuckery doing some weird shit to Kieran though.
Leliana: If you made her Divine, definitely. If you didn’t, I wouldn’t say so. She had such a big role in Inquisition, I don’t see her playing a huge role here.
Zevran: We’re in Antiva, we better see the boy! He is canonically with a romanced Warden in Inquisition, but I could see him taking a break from that to take care of Antivan things for a bit.
Wynne: canonically dead. Sad for her. RIP mage granny.
Sten: He’s the Arishok now, I see him tying into the Qunari plotline.
Oghren: please god no.
Shale: I hope so, but since she was DLC I would doubt it.
Loghain: He’s dead babe. Either you killed him in Origins or I’m assuming like nobody saved him in the Fade in Inquisition, and see what I said about the Veil Jumpers in Alistair’s section.
The Awakening Squad (minus Anders/Justice): doing this as a collective cause I’m not typing all that out. Probably not. Might see a couple of them if we go to Weisshaupt while we’re in the Anderfels.
Hawke: If you left them in the fade, again, could show up with the Veil Jumpers. Since there is a possibility they’re dead, I could see them just sending a “hey I’m fine in Kirkwall” message if they’re alive.
Anders: maybe, maybe not. This game seems like it’ll have less emphasis on the Mage/Templar conflict, but we haven’t seen him since 2, so who knows.
Fenris: We’re in Tevinter, I’m hoping he shows up! Let us help him kill slavers please.
Merrill: Seeing how Solas’s agents use the eluvian network, I could see her showing up again. Possibly with the Veil Jumpers
Isabella: I don’t think so. If she shows up, might be part of the Lords of Fortune plotline.
Sebastian: No. Might get referenced, but he is DLC.
Aveline: I don’t think so either. I think she’s too busy keeping things together in Kirkwall. Also ACAB includes Aveline.
Carver/Bethany: If you made them wardens, possibly show up in the Anderfels? But seeing how customizable their appearances are, I doubt it.
Blackwall/Rainier: Again, possibly in the Anderfels. Or elsewhere if he didn’t get recruited into the wardens.
Bull: I hope so, I wanna see the chargers for at least one mission. But since he can be dead if you kept him loyal to the Qun, don’t have high hopes.
Cassandra: if you made her divine, sure. I could also see her leading remnants of the inquisition if she isn’t divine.
Dorian: We’re in Tevinter. If Varric or Harding don’t mention they have a magister friend that can help, I’m going to be very disappointed.
Vivienne: Again, if she’s divine, yes. If she’s not, probably a letter writing cameo.
Cole: I could see him having a very cool plotline with the Veil breaking down and him either being a spirit with human elements or a human with spirit elements.
Sera: I could see the Friends of Red Jenny playing a role, if not her specifically.
Bonus Advisors:
Josephine: Maybe. Could see her helping with Inquisition remnants like Cassandra.
Cullen: No, cause Greg Ellis is an asshole.

Like Ripples on a Pond
Lucanis/Rook | Minor Anders/Hawke | Minor Dorian/Adaar
Chapter 6: Wicked Ways
Lucanis, Harding, and Rook travel through the High Anderfels to recruit a Grey Warden.
"Lucanis knew from his experiences as a mage-killer that mages were susceptible to their own emotions. Anger them enough and they’ll either make a mistake or get eaten by a demon. Maybe Rook had found a different way to focus her emotions. Her magical education would have been very different from any of his past targets. No Circle, no Harrowing. Just people who loved her, teaching her everything they knew."
