Working fathers are essential to the well-being and development of their children, but the United States is experiencing a crisis of fatherlessness that is ruining our children's futures. In the overwhelming number of cases, fathers insulate children from physical and sexual abuse, financial difficulty or poverty, incarceration, teen pregnancy, poor educational outcomes, high school failure, and a host of behavioral and psychological problems. By contrast, homes with non-related "boyfriends" present are among the most dangerous place for a child to be. HHS (Health and Human Services) should prioritize married father engagement in its messaging, health, and welfare policies.
In the context of current and emerging reproductive technologies, HHS policies should never place the desires of adults over the right of children to be raised by the biological fathers and mothers who conceive them. In cases involving biological parents who are found by a court to be unfit because of abuse or neglect, the process of adoption should be speedy, certain, and supported generously by HHS."
It doesn't directly say "stay at home mother" in that section, but it places emphasis on the working father and disparages single mothers as well as unmarried couples and queer couples.

Apple’s quest for chip control across a wide range of products isn’t going as planned. Industry watchers say Apple is unmatched in custom SoCs, but Broadcom and Qualcomm are far ahead in custom 5G modems and Wi-Fi chips. According to one report, Broadcom will launch its first Wi-Fi chips in 2025, and regardless of how difficult this challenge has been, Broadcom will suffer the biggest financial hit.
Recent market news has focused on Apple’s Wi-Fi chips. MediaTek products may enter the Apple supply chain through non-mainstream products like Apple TV, and Apple may introduce its own Wi-Fi chips in 2025 iPhones.
Apple clearly wants control over Wi-Fi chip supply. Nevertheless, company executives noted that the Apple developed themselves Wi-Fi semiconductors would be challenging to announce in 2025 due to current developments and technical constraints.
In accordance with industry legends, Apple has made investments heavily in self-developing Apple’s Wi-Fi chip like 5G modem chips. It had obstructions, and the project went on hold and the team reorganized. Apple’s struggles with 5G modem chip development, which led to the extended partnership with Qualcomm, show that wireless chip leapfrogging is difficult.
Mainstream companies like Broadcom and Qualcomm have extensive wireless connection experience and patented technologies. Wireless and wired networking chips have high entry barriers, according to sources.
Broadcom is Apple’s Wi-Fi chip supplier. Market expectations suggest Broadcom will suffer when Apple switches to its own Wi-Fi chips in 2025.
Apple’s Wi-Fi chip self-growth are still unpopular. Broadcom leads smartphone Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi market. Apple would have a hard time surpassing Broadcom’s products so quickly.
Apple should launch its chips in non-mainstream applications, according to IC design industry sources. From 5G modems to Wi-Fi chips, reports say the iPhone will directly integrate them. The iPhone, Apple’s main product, cannot afford mistakes.
Apple’s self-developed chips must match Broadcom and Qualcomm’s connectivity and power consumption to avoid hurting iPhone sales. The goal seems unrealistic. It should follow MediaTek’s Wi-Fi chips’ introduction into Apple’s supply chain, likely with non-mainstream products rather than smartphones.
Without poaching or recruiting elite teams and investing significant resources in development, Apple won’t be able to develop a viable wireless networking chip in the short term, sources say. Another question is whether spending so much time on peripheral chips is cheaper than buying them externally.
Market sources suggested that Apple should focus on its processor chips, which have been performing well, rather than peripheral chips to stay competitive in the high-speed computing era.
Some industry sources say Apple may not launch custom Wi-Fi chips by 2025 due to technical limitations.
DigiTimes claims Apple invested heavily in custom 5G and Wi-Fi chips, but the amount is unknown. The Cupertino company has encountered ‘certain bottlenecks,’ with some rumors claiming it had abandoned development. Earlier information about the in-house 5G modem indicated that the baseband chip was having performance, overheating, and other issues, and the custom Wi-Fi chips were likely involved.
Apple will also have to compete with Qualcomm and Broadcom, which have extensive market experience and patented technologies that could be challenged in court if both companies feel Apple is getting too comfortable severing ties with them. If these custom Wi-Fi chips arrive in 2025, Broadcom will suffer financially. However, the California giant may struggle to reduce its dependence on these suppliers.
Qualcomm may remain Apple’s supplier despite its estimated 2025 or 2026 launch of its custom 5G modem for the iPhone, as the iPad, Apple Watch, and others require 5G modems. Broadcom may face similar losses due to iPhone order losses, but Apple manufactures and ships millions of non-mobile phones. The end of this partnership may take several years.
Iphone is reportedly considering integrating everything the company’s Apple’s Wi-Fi chip self-growth and 5G modems onto a single die to improve efficiency and save space in its devices. This plan will take years to complete, but it shows the company’s direction.

Hospitality sector 'anxious' over summer staffing

The UK’s hospitality sector is still short-staffed and businesses fear they will struggle to cope over the busy summer holiday season.
It comes as former government minister George Eustice called for EU workers to be allowed into the UK to ease post-Brexit shortages.
Trade body UK Hospitality also said staffing was in “serious crisis” – with vacancies 48% higher than pre-Covid.
The government said staff could be hired under its points-based system.
Hotels and bars need more EU workers, say bosses
Restaurateur Stephen Montgomery told the BBC he was “anxious to a degree” about the summer. He runs Our Place in Annan, near Lockerbie – he is also chair of the Scottish Hospitality Group.
“Just as we were trying to take the business from five to seven days a week, bang we lost two members of staff, both front of house,” he said.
But it means he may have to cut down his opening hours. “If I have to close to make sure my staff aren’t burned out, I will. Why risk losing more staff for financial gain?”
However, he is hopeful of recruiting soon – his business is offering interest-free loans and cost of living grants to employees as incentives in a tight labour market.
Now, Mr Montgomery’s plight, along with others, has been highlighted by the former environment secretary and outgoing MP Mr Eustice who has picked up the post-Brexit staffing baton. Speaking in the Observer, Mr Eustice called for a reciprocal visa scheme for under-35s to work across the EU and Britain.
“I am very sceptical about a skills-based immigration policy because we have no shortages in those areas, but where we do have shortages is in hospitality, it’s quite acute there. We could have a two-year youth mobility scheme which would have no permanent impact on immigration numbers,” he told the BBC.

An industry outlook by Deloitte for 2023 said disruptions due to staff shortages, underpinned by high inflation, would likely increase and last beyond 2025.
The accounting firm also forecast a lack of economic growth and rising costs, with an inability to raise prices as the key risks in the sector.
Staffing is a problem for the Lamplighter Dining Rooms in Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District.
Open 365 days of the year it can seat 100 guests but owner James Tasker said filling the rota had been “more of a challenge” since the pandemic.
“The southern European contingent just didn’t come back,” he said. “Then there’s the surging cost of living, coupled with unaffordable rental accommodation, that’s in phenomenally short supply here.
“We may face certain days where we have to restrict the volume of guests, which is disappointing but it’s not all about the money.”
Having fewer guests was preferable to giving customers bad service and getting negative reviews. “We’re conscious of our reputation,” Mr Tasker added.
Vacancies
The background to these challenges are post-Brexit working regulations and Covid, both of which have severely affected the sector. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the level of vacancies was still 48% higher than pre-Covid levels.
An ONS update is due on Tuesday but it said available roles fell by 22% over the last year, standing at 132,000 in May.
“The workforce shortage is creating a serious crisis as we head deeper into the peak summer season,” said UK Hospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls. “Nearly half of businesses are reducing trading hours per day, and a third are having to close on some days each week.”

James Dixon-Box, deputy manager at Bournemouth’s 95-bed Marsham Court Hotel in Dorset, said hoteliers in the town had been forced to think laterally to combat staffing issues.
“We work really hard on cross-training so we have staff who are multi-skilled. Finding chefs is not the easiest thing but we do a lot of work with colleges and schools and have student apprentices,” he said.
One of them is a 16-year old who has just started work in the hotel kitchen and will spend the summer holidays being trained as a chef. The process will take six to eight weeks.
Mr Dixon-Box said: “There’s no use moping about saying there’s a skills gap, the best way is to teach people and for them to learn.”
Further north, Buzzworks runs 19 restaurants across Scotland and employs 800 staff, turning over £35m last year. But finding chefs is a problem. “It’s our most acute shortage,” said owner Kenny Blair.
The entrepreneur has obtained an immigration licence “which was not cheap” but it allows him to recruit staff from abroad – most recently India.
Buzzworks
Mark McCulloch set up Hospitality Rising to attract young people to an industry they would never have considered before.
“It’s a viable career path, the pay is better than you think,” he told the BBC.
Backed by 300 businesses it has the support of big hitters like Michelin-starred chefs Tom Kerridge, Angela Hartnett and Raymond Blanc.
Mr McCulloch, a former marketing executive with Pret a Manger and Yo! Sushi, said without a full team it “leads to customer disappointment”.
Renewed calls for jobs in the hospitality industry to be added to the shortage occupation list come after the government’s Migration Advisory Committee last rejected the idea in March.
A spokesperson for the Home Office told the BBC it worked to ensure its points-based system “delivers for the UK” and that included reviewing the shortage occupation list “to ensure it reflects the current labour market”. They added that many hospitality roles such as chefs are eligible under the points-based system.

A controversial criminal justice reform bill officially took effect on Sunday, with the exception of a key provision put on hold by a court at the last minute, that will make significant changes to how law enforcement handles crimes in the state.
Illinois' Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today (SAFE-T) Act took effect on Sunday although a key part of the bill, which eliminates cash bail in the state, was halted when the Illinois Supreme Court issued a stay at the last minute on Saturday evening in order to "maintain consistent pretrial procedures throughout Illinois."
The bill’s other provisions that took effect Sunday, like limiting when defendants can be deemed flight risks, allowing defendants under electronic monitoring to leave home for 48 hours before they can be charged with escape, and preventing police from arresting non-violent trespassers have been widely criticized by politicians and commentators on both sides of the political spectrum.
Critics say that the new measures will handcuff police and increase crime by releasing criminals with tickets rather than arresting them for certain crimes.
ILLINOIS SAFE-T ACT: FORMER CHICAGO-AREA POLICE CHIEF, PROSECUTOR SOUND ALARM OVER FAST-TRACKED SAFETY LAW
"When I said that this is the most dangerous law I've ever seen, I believe that," Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau told Fox News.
Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon told Fox News that from what he can tell of the SAFE-T act, "there's not a drug offense other than one involving a firearm or a high-level drug offense that is detainable."
JUDGE RULES ILLINOIS LAW ELIMINATING CASH BAIL IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL
As a result, he fears that not only will the high volume of these crimes continue, but low-level criminals abusing drugs may also not receive opportunities to get clean if they're released immediately after being arrested.
"It's a snowball effect if the drug issue leads to these deaths and burglaries that we experience," Bacon said. "They are a struggle for rural departments to keep up with."
"Simply booking someone and sending them out before they're even sober, I don't see a great benefit," he told Fox News. "I hope I'm wrong, but it's concerning."
SAFE-T ACT: ILLINOIS SHERIFF WARNS PROSECUTORS NOT TO BE ‘OVERZEALOUS’ TARGETING VICTIMS STOPPING CRIMINALS
The new law also allows for anonymous misconduct complaints against police officers when in the past officers were able to know the identity of the person accusing them.
"It's opening the door for the anti-police activist community and the attorneys that represent them that are anti-police," retired Chicago Police Department Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy told Fox News Digital earlier this year.
"The problem that nobody sees or turns a blind eye to is the effect on morale, recruiting and retention," Roy said. "Anybody can just make a complaint against an officer. The department or the investigating body does not have to tell the officer who it is, which hinders their ability to respond to the complaint accurately and honestly. It has a bad effect on morale."
2023 ELECTIONS: CHICAGO CHOOSES A MAYOR, STATES VOTE ON LEGISLATURES IN CONTENTIOUS UPCOMING RACES
The SAFE-T Act will also require all police officers in the state to wear body cameras by January 1, 2025. Currently, only 10% of law enforcement agencies in the state are equipped with body cameras, WTVO-TV reported.
Another part of the legislation, Roy told Fox News Digital, prevents officers from accused in a use-of-force incident from reviewing his or her body camera footage before giving a statement. Officers can now amend their statements after viewing the footage, but that, Roy notes, makes two reports — a situation Roy says is "ideal" for attorneys looking to cast doubt on the story of an officer who may not have accurately reported every detail simply from memory in the first report.
"In criminal or civil cases arising from arrests, this bill is great for defense attorneys and for lawyers who like to sue the police," Roy said.
Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano, who represents the city’s 41st Ward and served as both a Chicago police officer and firefighter, told Fox News Digital earlier this year that his constituents are "beside themselves" over the "horses---" bill" and that he agrees with Roy that the bill will further downgrade police morale by eliminating cash bail, which is now on hold pending a future court decision,and releasing criminals back onto the streets with just citations.
"It’s just completely wrong in the direction we are going with crime and punishment," Napolitano said. "The Safe-T Act basically says if you commit a crime you get a strike two, a strike three, a strike four, a strike five, it’s just the wrong way to go about it."

Edenbrook under Caroline Bloom.
During the first half of 2021, Caroline Bloom took over the hospital from her ex husband Leland.
Caroline was a fan of the medical research being done and made moves to work closely with the FDA to streamline processes to get studies to FDA stages quicker.
Before Naveen retired he confided to Caroline his hopes for the free clinic and how the diagnostics team would be apart of this. Naveen declined to run it but agreed to have the clinic named after him. Ethan was recommended to run this clinic and the hybrid chief/practitioner role was born to make it more enticing to Ethan.
Casey was offered the role of Team leader at the recommendation of Tobias but she wanted to earn her stripes first. Tobias then suggests that they run the team together which Caroline approves.
After the various court cases wrapped up, Caroline worked to drop the Bloom from the hospital name. It was back to being Edenbrook.
Casey and Tobias recruited Baz back to the team and after an extensive interview process, Dr Aurora Emery won out.
The clinic went from strength to strength and so did the team. Mid way through 2023 Tobias starts talks to expand the team. The team is to be split into research and practice.
The plans come to fruition in 2024 and Tobias leads the research arm and Casey the medical practice. Aurora is Casey’s second in command.
During this time Casey gets involved in advocacy for education and access for sexual health for women abs those of the lgbtiq + community , abortion as well as general women’s health especially in the poorer areas of Boston and Massachusetts as a whole.
Aurora is in charge of the team when Casey takes Maternity leave for much of 2025.

Ethan writes a follow up book to Diagnostic Principles and he co-authors a book with Casey about her advocacy work with women’s health.
In 2026, Caroline is ready to step down from CEO of Edenbrook. Her niece Evelyn Knight takes over as CEO. Caroline as a parting gift opens a clinic in one of the poorer areas of Boston that also has a high poc representation. Casey is offered the role of director of this clinic but turns it down as she feels a non poc would not be well received. She recommends that Aurora take the role which she agrees too. Casey spends some of her time practicing at the clinic. The clinic is named after Delores Hudson.
Meanwhile the DT has a presence in the paediatric ward with Sienna Trinh. This branching out of the team is a great success.
Casey has her first keynote in 2027 at the medical symposium in Miami.
Jackie takes a role in administering the intern and residency program. She thrives in this role and as time goes on applications for the residency applications grow.
Ethan steps down as chief in 2035. He cites family reasons for stepping down, Hudson is at school and Alexis is not far off starting. He stays as an attending for another 5 years before retiring.
After retirement he writes a memoir of his time as chief and his book paves way for other hospitals to make hybrid roles in the higher management. Tobias takes over as chief.
Casey stays leader of the DT and internal medicine for the rest of her career. She continues her advocacy and her second book that she co-writes with Aurora deals with overcoming misogyny and racism in the medical field. This book encourages poc to take up medicine and empowers female medical students in general.

Stephen Curry x Under Armour Launch The Curry Brand
According to Under Armour
Stephen Curry has long been dedicated to making basketball accessible on and off the court, and his latest endeavor—a legacy brand powered by Under Armour—will be no different.
Curry Brand, launching today December 1, features footwear, apparel, and accessories backed by Under Armour’s performance product innovations. But there’s more to the brand than product— a percentage of Curry Brand’s yearly revenue will be invested in under-resourced communities. The goals are as high-achieving as his basketball records: by 2025, the Curry Brand aims to create at least 20 safe places to play, support 125 programs that impact young athletes, and deliver opportunities to train more than 15,000 coaches—making an overall impact on more than 100,000 youth.
From a young age, Curry grew up surrounded by the power of sport and community. While playing in the NBA for the Charlotte Hornets, his father Dell Curry became increasingly active in the North Carolina community, and established The Dell Curry Foundation to support youth in the area. While Stephen has followed in his father’s footsteps building a prolific career in professional basketball, he’s also done so as a philanthropist, making it a priority to give back to the community with he and his wife Ayesha’s youth-focused family foundation, Eat. “We have a shared goal of unlocking play for kids, so that became a natural place for us to focus,” Curry said of the partnership with Under Armour. “I grew up doing a lot of things to give back to the community with my family—and continue that now—while Under Armour has done so much to support athletes around the world.”
Stephen has made youth his focus with his philanthropic efforts because he believes achieving success should not be dictated by circumstance. When it comes to athletics, less than 30% of youth ages 6 to 18 growing up in low-income households participate in organized sports, and low-income kids are six times more likely to quit sports because of financial costs. And now, as many sports programs impose increased fees and logistical hurdles in response to the coronavirus pandemic, experts anticipate participation will only decrease.
“Play is a fundamental part of childhood and is critical to development. So much of who I am as a person and a leader today is because of playing sports as a kid,” Curry said. “I learned the value of hard work, resilience, teamwork, communication, time management—sports teach young athletes so many critical life skills, which is why I’m passionate about making sure everyone has access to these opportunities, first through my foundation and now through Curry Brand.”
Curry Brand will first invest in the sport where Stephen built his platform—basketball. The following impact pillars will be the focus areas for Curry Brand investments:
Safe Places to Play: Build inspiring spaces to learn and grow on and off the court. The brand will invest in court refurbs and sustainable programming of those spaces.
Programming and Product: Resources and products to support team sports through regional school systems and local organizations.
Coaching and Leadership Development: Investing in the recruitment and training of people to be great sports coaches for kids in under-resourced communities.

While Curry Brand’s efforts will eventually reach communities worldwide, they will begin in Oakland, where the brand will collaborate with local organizations like Positive Coaching Alliance and Coaching Corps to provide professional development for every youth sports coach in the Oakland Unified School District and the Oakland Parks & Recreation Department. Oakland will then serve as a model for other regions.
“A lot of my inspiration for the brand came from the last 11 years I’ve spent in Oakland. All the support that the community has given me, I want to be able to hand that right back,” said Curry, who recently donated UA SPORTSMASKs to city youth and refurbished a court in East Oakland in 2019. “Under Armour and I have already been working on bringing play to Oakland, and through this work, I’ve been able to see the challenges kids are facing first-hand, so Curry Brand just builds on the strong foundation we’ve started.”

Ten years ago, Tom Izzo waited to hear from LeBron James.
The call never came.
Izzo turned down a chance to jump to the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers and instead remained at Michigan State. Less than a month later, James announced on ESPN he would be taking his talents to Miami.
It turned out to be the right move for Izzo.

And on Monday, he finally landed his generational talent in Emoni Bates.

Now, he must wait to see when – and if – that union can happen. And if it does, there is a chance Izzo could have the budding superstar for two years, and not one.
Bates’ stunning midday announcement to commit to MSU could eventually be “The Decision” for the Spartans. In two years at Ypsilanti Lincoln, the athletic 6-foot-9 forward has become one of the most heralded high school prospects in the country, perhaps since James skipped college for the NBA nearly two decades ago.
“I’m not sure what the future may hold,” Bates said as he and family members hoisted Spartan hats to their heads, “but as I do know right now, I will be committing to Michigan State University.”

Road ahead
Bates is Izzo’s first commitment for the 2022 class. But a lot can transpire between now and then that will weigh on his decision to head to MSU or go elsewhere.
He could even stick around East Lansing for two years.

• The most interesting possibility is Bates could reclassify and forego his senior season in high school to enter college a year early, and join guard Pierre Brooks II as part of the Spartans’ 2021 class. Both Bates and his father, Elgin, told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello they have not made any decision; however, Sports Illustrated’s Michael Rosenberg reported Monday that Bates will indeed reclassify. “After this year it will tell me everything I need to know,” Bates told ESPN. “I can’t decide on that right now. After this year, if it’s too easy, I might – but if not, I’m probably going to play another year.”
His father, who is creating his own prep school, Ypsilanti Prep Aim High, told ESPN: “By the end of his junior year, he will be in position to graduate. We don’t know yet. It’s up to him, it’s a day-by-day thing for him. It might be a decision he decides to make later on.”

• Bates’ birthday makes any decision to reclassify more about going to college early, not about turning pro.
Experts believed as recently as last year the league would lower its age limit for the draft from 19 to 18 (currently a player must turn 19 during the draft’s calendar year and be one year removed from high school). It has been a hot topic in college and the NBA for the latter part of the 2010s, and many felt Bates would become the first beneficiary of a potential rules change after he turns 18 in 2022.
However, talks about eliminating the “one-and-done” rule went from seemingly a done deal in early 2019 to an impasse during ongoing labor negotiations this winter. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski in April reported the rules change may not be on the table until 2025 at the earliest now as part of the next collective bargaining agreement.
Bates was born Jan. 28, 2004, meaning he cannot enter the NBA draft until 2023 after he turns 19. Even if he reclassifies, he would not be eligible for the 2022 draft, which could allow him to stay at MSU for two seasons.

• Bates also would not meet the G League’s minimum age requirement of 18 for the 2021-22 season, and would not be eligible for the NBA’s development system draft until the 2022-23 season.
He could opt to not reclassify, play his final two years of high school at his father’s newly created Ypsilanti Prep Academy and then enter the G League. Or Bates could reclassify, play one year at MSU and then test the G League. The G League recently began pulling some high-end players away from colleges – including No. 1 2020 prospect Jalen Greens and former Michigan commit Isaiah Todd – with a boost of $500,000 salaries.
However, Bates told ESPN he would prefer to play college basketball.
“It’s good for certain players. That’s a lot of money,” he said. “I don’t really plan on, I don’t think I’ll do it. It’s good for some people, but I don’t think I’ll head that route.”
• Discussions are urgent and ongoing across the country within the NCAA, state and federal legislatures about athletes being able to financially capitalize on their names, images and likenesses. And a megahyped star on the rise like Bates would be a major test case of a college athlete’s peak value for endorsements.
In May, the Michigan House of Representatives with a 94-13 vote approved a bipartisan plan to allow college athletes to earn compensation on their likeness. Many of those guidelines would take effect before the end of 2022 if the state Senate approves the bill, which would give Bates a chance to financially capitalize on his status as one of the game’s best prospects.
Those laws and rules also could be expedited as a growing number of states are enacting legislation that allow athletes to begin to exert their name, image and likeness rights as soon as next summer.
• Bates could follow the overseas route LaMelo Ball and a handful of other top prospects have taken until becoming eligible for the draft, and earn a sizeable paycheck. It would not expedite Bates’ path to the NBA because of his birthday.
And that also seems like the least likely option given Bates’ strong feelings for Izzo and MSU’s coaching staff.
“I want to say thanks to coach Iz and (assistant coach Mike Garland) for staying with me since I was younger and being there through the process,” Bates said on ESPN. “They’ve been showing love to me since I was in seventh grade, they’ve been recruiting me hard since then. I just know they’re showing that their love is genuine, and they’ve just been there for a long time.
“I’m big on loyalty, and they showed me all the loyalty.”
Coup for two?

Izzo could be rewarded for that persistence – potentially for two years — if Bates doesn’t turn pro.
MSU’s coaches cannot talk about recruits until they sign a letter of intent. But there is no need to when that player is the consensus No. 1 in his class and considered among the best prospects this century.
Bates’ announcement is as big as when Magic Johnson said after winning the 1977 state championship as a senior at Lansing Everett that, “Next year, I will be attending Michigan State University.” That announcement gave Izzo’s mentor, Jud Heathcote, the key piece for the Spartans’ first national championship in 1979, and Johnson left for the NBA after his second season at MSU.
Izzo has had his share of big-time recruits, with Mateen Cleaves’ decision in 1996 the building block for the Spartans’ 2000 national championship. In recent years, Miles Bridges in 2016 and Jaren Jackson Jr. a year later became the Hall of Fame coach’s highest-rated recruits, along with Kelvin Torbert in 2001.
But none compare to Bates, who has been touted as the nation’s best in his age group – and then some – since he was throwing down dunks as a lanky seventh grader.

One of his earliest suitors was Izzo, who spent any chance he could driving to see Lincoln play the past two years. Bates was a frequent visitor to MSU and befriended a number of the Spartans, and Izzo reportedly was the only college coach to contact him at midnight on June 15 – the first moment he could talk to players who finished their sophomore season.
And those years and that late-night phone call paid off at 1:48 p.m. Monday, when Bates beamed as he put on the white hat with the green Spartan logo.
This was not Chris Webber or Jabari Parker, the two players who got away from Izzo that still he regrets. Forget about LeBron, who he admittedly would have loved to coach.
Bates could be Izzo’s Magic and help win him a second national title in the twilight of his coaching career. And maybe, like Magic, he’ll even have two years to do it.
That’s if Izzo’s biggest dream becomes a reality.
