Man, if only these two songs weren't at the worst possible interval of different keys (and so requiring really noticeable pitch changing to make both meet), because they are so delightfully compatible.

Weekly Movie Report #1
Gull day! I've decided that I'll start to record the movies I've watched in every week. I'd like to develop a consistent posting schedule for every Saturday, as I consider that the end of the week. Without further ado, let's begin!
1 - Everything, Everywhere, All At Once [2022, dir. by Daniels]
Tumblr media
Oh, where do I even start from? This movie is absolutely insane. Alternate selves? A crazy cult worshipping a literal everything bagel? And a middle-aged lady who is going through a midlife crisis was the one to stop it by tapping into her alternate selves by doing odd things to trigger them? I wouldn't think that I'd even be saying this, man. This movie is perfect in every way. The editing, the score by Son Lux, the fights, and a story which keeps me at the edge of my seat. Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis' performances kept the story going, and this movie deserves all the praises.
2 - Monkey Man [2024, dir. by Dev Patel]
Tumblr media
Man, I never thought I'd see a movie like this. The dark and grisly settings of the streets of India and the dark and disturbing glimpse into the underbelly of the corrupt combined with a gritty revenge story is a wonderful way to start off a directorial debut. The fight scenes were a blast, as well as the camerawork. Patel knocked it off the park with this one.
3 - City Hunter [2024, dir. by Yuichi Sato]
Tumblr media
You see, I've been waiting for this movie for a good while. I've been a huge fan of City Hunter since I was young, but there's some discourse on the so-called "definitive live-action adaptation", the closest being the 2018 movie by Philippe Lacheau [note: I have not watched it myself]. But, this was it. This was the movie for us City Hunter fans. Sato did his homework. Ryohei Suzuki, being a huge fan of the manga himself, portrayed the perverted private eye Ryo Saeba so brilliantly, and I can not unsee him as the famed City Hunter. He is able to switch between the pervy womanizer and a serious private eye in a flip of a coin, a defining trait of the character so well. Misato Morita and Masanobu Ando's Kaori and Hideyuki Makimura was quintessential to the development of the plot, and hey, we get to see Saeko as well! We need more hammers in the next movie, please!
Anyhoo, that's the end of this week's reviews! I'll see you next Saturday, bye-bye!

What Analysts Say About Triggers of Japan’s Stocks Rout
New Post has been published on https://sa7ab.info/2024/08/06/what-analysts-say-about-triggers-of-japans-stocks-rout/
What Analysts Say About Triggers of Japan’s Stocks Rout
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Japanese stocks had their worst day since 1987, with both the Topix index and the Nikkei 225 Stock Average entering bear markets as investors fled amid a surge in the yen, tighter monetary policy and U.S. economic concerns.
Forced margin selling among retail investors was seen as exacerbating the rout, while UBS Securities cut its index targets for Japan.
Here is what analysts are saying about who is offloading shares and why, and where the market may be headed from here:
Who’s selling?
Rina Oshimo, a senior strategist at Okasan Securities Co.
“Selling is being spurred by the unwinding of long positions and the involvement of trend-following hedge funds. Valuation and fundamental strategies are not applicable in some areas due to the panic selling aspect of the market.”
Takehiko Masuzawa, head of equity trading at Phillip Securities Japan
Kyle Rodda, a senior market analyst at Capital.Com
“The rapid move in the yen is putting downward pressure on Japanese equities, but it’s also driving an unwind of a major carry trade — investors had leveraged up by borrowing in yen to buy other assets, chiefly US tech stocks.”
Yen and BOJ
Rafael Nemet-Nejat, a senior portfolio manager at Jin Investment Management Pte
“This is a massive deleveraging that is occurring, triggered by the BOJ rate hike and the FOMC likely cutting in September causing a huge unwind in the carry trade.”
“Thus, many people long the weak JPY trades and soft landing scenario are being forced to unwind. The moves are extreme especially in crowded longs even if earnings are huge beats, likely indicating that funds are either blowing up and or experiencing a lot of pain.”
Tim Morse, an analyst at Asymmetric Advisors
“This is all yen driven – sudden plunge from 145 towards 142 makes further technical barrier break seem within reach.”
U.S. economy
Jumpei Tanaka, a strategist at Pictet Asset Management
“Japanese equities were adversely affected by the ‘Sahm Rule’ triggered by last Friday’s announcement of the US unemployment rate rising to 4.3%, which raised fears of a U.S. recession.”
“At the moment, the US Economic surprise index is showing a negative (worsening) trend, and investors are becoming increasingly wary of deteriorating U.S. economic indicators. In addition, the Jackson Hole meeting is coming up this month and the FOMC meeting next month.
Hideyuki Suzuki, a general manager at SBI Securities
“At the moment, the US Economic surprise index is showing a negative (worsening) trend, and investors are becoming increasingly wary of deteriorating U.S. economic indicators. In addition, the Jackson Hole meeting is coming up this month and the FOMC meeting next month.
Outlook
James Salter, CIO of Zennor Asset Management
“Our short-term concerns do not detract from our longer-term optimism on capital allocation change in Japan.”
We do not expect this to have a radical impact on Japanese competitiveness or even earnings.”
Hiroshi Namioka chief strategist at T&D Asset Management Co. in Tokyo.
“With heightened volatility, the market will likely be rough over the next few days, but towards the end of the week it may rebound.”
Rupal Agarwal, Asia quantitative strategist at Sanford C. Bernstein
“We are at a point in the cycle where bad news is bad news. Do note, for Japan we have been recommending to look at quality stocks and add more exposure to domestic Japan since the beginning of the year, so this sell-off hasn’t changed our view.”
“From a long-term perspective, we still remain positive on the Japan structural story.”

City Hunter premieres today
City Hunter, the new movie from Yûichi Satô, is out today.
Ryo Saeba is a “sweeper” based in Shinjuku, Tokyo who cleans up trouble in the gritty underworld. Although he’s an unparalleled playboy who struggles to keep his cool around beautiful women, when he accepts a request, he carries it out with crack marksmanship, impressive athletic abilities and a calm composure. The unflappable, foolish and flirtatious Ryo is played by Ryohei Suzuki, while the heroine Kaori Makimura is played by Misato Morita. Ryo’s partner Hideyuki Makimura is played by Masanobu Ando, and Saeko Nogami, a beautiful detective who has a complicated relationship with Ryo, is played by Fumino Kimura.
Join Ryo, Kaori and Hideyuki on the bustling streets of modern-day Shinjuku as the curtain finally rises on the origin story of “City Hunter.”

Simply Irrestiable! City Hunter on Netflix
Streaming on Netflix Release Date: April 19, 2024 (USA) & April 25 (Canada) Part of City Hunter’s appeal lies in the fact it’s a very hilarious buddy film about Ryo Saeba (Ryohei Suzuki), a merc who really loves his women while taking out crime in Shinjuku, Japan. Sometimes his behaviour gets in the way of getting the job done, and this is something Hideyuki Makimura (Masanobu Andô) dislikes. And…
