An AU moment where Dr. Starline pops off on Eggman regarding their time together post the events of Issue 50.
Everyone has a threshold of what they can tolerate and put up with. And after the disrespect he put Starline through, I imagine that once the platypus finally gets over his crushing loss and is reminded what actual respect and comradery looks like, he would have quite a few choice words to say to his now once-idol.
*Textless ver. and extended rant/fanfic under the cut!
Music: Second Wind - Sonic Frontiers
“AND ANOTHER THING, DOCTOR!" Starline barked furiously, his once tentative words now having raised into a full on shout as the platypus regained his full confidence back to stand up to the man in front of him. "I thought that you were someone worth idolizing... Your brilliance and genius were unmatched and unparalleled by anyone! I aspired to be just like you!
"But now I can see that, at the end of the day, you're little more than a pompous, CALLOUS, old man, with a repugnant disposition towards everyone, be it friend or foe!! And I was a fool to spend so much of my precious time trying to placate and win your approval!!"
It was cathartic to be finally be able to speak out to him. So freeing to finally be able to break free from the blinding, lifelong admiration that Starline had held of Eggman; of the man whom he had shaped his entire life and ideologies around. Of the man that had humiliated and defeated him, not once, but twice. It was a conversation that he knew after his defeat he may have never been able to bring himself to have, did he not have Rivet and Hex’s steadying presence at his back. Mentally holding him firm in the future and giving him something to fall back upon as he now severed the last remaining ties to his former aspirations and fallacies. Letting what little bit that remained of his once firm and steadfast foundation crumble away and fall beneath his feet.
He would not go back. He would not apologize. Whatever happened now was up to him, and would not be done in any way, shape, or form for the sake of someone who did not care for anyone but himself. He refused to let it be.
And despite the quiver of terror and dread radiating through his body at the sight of Eggman's looming form grinning above him-reminding him of the day he had lost it all- Starline was able to keep himself standing firm.
When he was finally finished with his long winded tirade, Eggman acknowledged his words by tilting his head, the doctor's glasses glinting and reflecting orange light despite the cold shadows casting upon him. And he said, in a tone laced with sardonic amusement and fascination,
"Well now! Finally grew a spine, I see!! And all that it took was a couple hundred pounds of concrete... How ironic. Here I thought that was supposed to be the other way around. You certainly do know how to surprise me, doctor."
"Screw.. you." Starline growled out between tightly grit teeth as his body shook from the immense weight of his emotional outburst.
As dismissive and nerve grating as Eggman's statement was, it was still acknowledgement, no matter how small. And at one time, it would have been enough to make the platypus' tail start to wag.
But now? Starline couldn't find it in himself to care. He was done. He had said his peace, and Eggman's words meant nothing to him any more.
#I HAD TO DRAW IT#sonic#he would certainly not tolerate being betrayed a second time#that fight broke him and this is him regaining his self respect and confidence#To be able to admit that he was blinded by his admiration towards Eggman and was essentially a fool to put up with his disrespect is huge#THIS IS MY THERAPY#character development#ficlet#one shot#fanfic#AU

Understanding Bolts and Fasteners: Essential Components for Every Project
In the world of engineering, automotive repair, construction, and countless other industries, bolts and fasteners are the unsung heroes holding things together. These small but mighty components play a pivotal role in ensuring structures and machinery operate safely and effectively. Whether it’s a car’s engine, a piece of heavy machinery, or even a simple household appliance, bolts and fasteners are there, providing stability, strength, and longevity.
Types of Bolts and Fasteners
Fasteners are often used as an umbrella term for a variety of joining tools, including screws, rivets, washers, anchors, and of course, bolts. Bolts are typically paired with a nut to secure an object and often require a drilled hole for installation. They are categorized into various types, each designed for a specific purpose and environment. Some common types include:
Hex Bolts – Named for their six-sided head, hex bolts are one of the most common fasteners in construction, automotive, and other applications. They are versatile, strong, and easy to install.
Carriage Bolts – Recognizable by their rounded heads and square necks, carriage bolts are primarily used in wood applications where a smooth finish is preferred. The square neck prevents rotation during installation.
Lag Bolts – Often used in heavy-duty applications like woodworking or masonry, lag bolts are extremely strong and have coarse threads designed to create a strong hold in wood.
Anchor Bolts – Typically used to secure objects to concrete, anchor bolts are essential in structural applications where loads are heavy, and safety is a priority.
Each bolt has a unique purpose based on the type of materials and forces it will encounter. Whether you're working on automotive engines, construction, or light projects, understanding the role of each bolt type can save time and reduce wear on materials.
Materials and Coatings
Bolts and fasteners come in a range of materials, each chosen to perform under specific conditions. Here’s a look at some popular materials:
Steel – Steel bolts, particularly stainless steel, are popular for their strength and resistance to rust. They are ideal for most indoor applications where moisture exposure is minimal.
Aluminum – Lighter than steel, aluminum fasteners are ideal for projects where weight is a consideration. However, they are generally less durable than steel and may not be suitable for heavy loads.
Titanium – Known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, titanium is often used in high-performance automotive or aerospace applications. It is resistant to corrosion but can be more expensive.
Brass – Brass is a good choice for projects where aesthetics matter. It’s resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for outdoor applications, though it may not be as strong as steel.
Coatings, such as galvanization or black oxide, are often applied to bolts to improve durability and corrosion resistance. Galvanized bolts, for example, have a zinc coating that protects against rust, making them suitable for outdoor or damp environments.
How to Choose the Right Bolt and Fastener
Selecting the right bolt or fastener requires considering multiple factors, including the material, the load it will bear, the environmental conditions, and the aesthetics of the final product. Here’s a quick checklist to guide your decision:
Load and Strength Requirements – Determine the amount of weight or stress the bolt will need to withstand. Steel is often ideal for heavy loads, while aluminum may be sufficient for lighter applications.
Environmental Conditions – Will the bolt be exposed to elements like moisture or chemicals? Corrosion-resistant options, such as stainless steel or galvanized coatings, are ideal for damp conditions or outdoor use.
Aesthetics and Function – Some projects, particularly in automotive and consumer products, require bolts that look as good as they perform. Materials like brass or black oxide-coated bolts are excellent choices when appearance matters.
Budget – While durability and strength are essential, it’s also important to consider cost. Titanium fasteners, for example, are more expensive and generally reserved for projects that require their unique properties.
Choosing the right fastener is as much about understanding the nature of your project as it is about understanding the options available. A high-quality bolt and fastener can mean the difference between a structure that stands the test of time and one that fails prematurely.
Applications of Bolts and Fasteners in Automotive Engineering
Bolts and fasteners are integral in automotive engineering, where they hold engine components, suspension systems, and other critical parts together. In automotive contexts, bolts not only face the challenge of holding parts in place but must also endure intense vibrations, temperature fluctuations, and exposure to various chemicals. Automotive fasteners are often designed with special considerations for these stresses, making them highly specialized in form and material.
The Importance of Proper Installation
No matter how well-designed a bolt or fastener is, incorrect installation can compromise its performance. Over-tightening, for example, can lead to stress fractures, while under-tightening can lead to loosening over time. It’s essential to follow the recommended torque levels for each type of bolt, as outlined in technical specifications. Using a torque wrench is often recommended for applications requiring precise tension, such as automotive and structural projects.
Conclusion
Bolts and fasteners are more than simple connectors; they are the backbone of countless projects, from minor household fixes to massive engineering feats. Understanding the types, materials, and applications of bolts can help ensure you select the best option for your needs. Bolts: The Incredible Mechanics Behind Fastener and How They Revolutionized Construction
Bolts Fastener are one of the most simple and ubiquitous fasteners used in construction and mechanical assemblies. At their core, fastener are cylindrical rods with threads on one end that can be tightened or loosened by turning. When fitted through holes and tightened with a nut, fastener securely join two or more components together. Different Types of Bolts There are many varieties of fastener used for different applications. Bolts are commonly used to join metal parts and feature hexagonal heads that can be driven with a wrench. Lag fastener, also called coach screws, have large, cylindrSical heads and sharp threads that allow them to grip into wood or similar materials. Carriage fastener have a rounded head that sits flush and a square shoulder under the head to prevent rotation. Stove fastener are short fastener used to join thin sheets of metal, often found in appliances. Socket head cap screws feature a spherical head that can be driven with a hex key or socket tool. Allen fastener have a hexagonal socket in the head that is tightened with an Allen wrench. Material Composition Fastener are most commonly made of steel or stainless steel. Carbon steel fastener are inexpensive and strong for general construction use. Stainless steel holds up well to corrosion and is commonly used in wet or saltwater environments. Other materials may include brass, aluminum, titanium and specialty alloys depending on the application requirements and operating environment. Higher grades of steel such as alloy steels provide better strength characteristics but at increased cost. The material selection depends on factors like tensile strength needed, operating temperature range, and resistance to corrosion or wear expected. Thread Standards and Specifications Thread standards ensure fastener and nuts from different manufacturers properly interface. Fastener are identified by their diameter, length, thread type, class or grade of material. Common thread standards include unified coarse (UNC), unified fine (UNF), and metric threads. Fastener may have additional specifications for plating, finish, strength class or grade based on standards set by organizations like ASME, SAE, and ISO. Proper specifications ensure fastener reliably provide the clamping force and performance needed for particular engineering applications. Advantages of Bolted Joints There are several advantages that make bolted joints a popular mechanical fastening method: - Versatility - Fastener can join a wide variety of materials and assembly configurations from light fixtures to heavy machinery. - Removability - Bolted connections allow easy disassembly without damaging components for maintenance, repair, or replacement. - Adjustability - Fastener can be tightened or loosened to precisely control clamping force and preload on joints. - Strength - Properly selected and installed fastener provide very high tensile and shear strength for securely joining parts. - Tolerance for error - Bolted joints still function properly despite minor variations in hole alignment or part dimensions. - Economy - Fastener provide strong connections at relatively low cost compared to other joining methods like welding.
