black-robed figures in front of a classicist façade, strolling or resting. it seems like a staging, but the austere façade gains in liveliness and the house does not appear as a backdrop as it usually does when you walk past.

Berlin TV Tower

Berlin TV Tower – Wombats Hostels
I waited months to visit Berlin’s TV Tower – mainly because it sounded like a tourist trap. Finally decided it was worth a visit for the view alone. Indeed it is a tourist trap, but glad I experienced the bird’s-eye perspective of Berlin from the top. The view is amazing even on a cloudy day with snow flurries. Wish I’d done it the first week in sunnier weather…

Berlin. Fernsehturm. The television tower, called by the locals Telespargel, or toothpick, remains to this day the city’s tallest structure, at 368 m (1,207 ft), and one of the tallest structures in Europe. The tower was built in 1969 to a design by a team of architects including Fritz Dieter and Günter Franke, with the help of Swedish engineering experts. However, the idea for such a colossal tower in Berlin originated much earlier from Hermann Henselmann (creator of the Karl Marx-Allee development), in the Socialist-Realist style. The interior was given a face-lift in 2012.
