Denise Matthews, a.k.a. Vanity, on the cover of Jet magazine in 1988.

Vanity was an R&B star and actress in the 80's and 90's, and a former protégé of Prince. She is best remembered for her hit "Nasty Girl" as a member of her eponymous girl group Vanity 6, as well as her solo hits, including "Mechanical Emotion" and "Under the Influence". She was also the star of the 80's films "The Last Dragon" and "Action Jackson", both quite successful at the box office.

Born in Canada to a Jewish mother of Polish and German descent, and a father of African American descent, she later converted to Christianity. She famously dropped the stage name Vanity, and renounced her career in entertainment to dedicate her time to preaching.

Despite this, her fans never forgot her, and her work in entertainment has reached younger generations, with millions watching her R&B clips on YouTube. Some in the Jewish community will always remember her as one of our greatest rock stars of the 80's.

Matthews sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 57.

some positives about the atla live action series bc as much as i am a hater it's not good for the soul or the critical thinking skills to only hate things forever

the costumes are phenomenal. I really love all the live action character designs, they look fantastic

a lot of these young characters LOOK really really young, which is important. aang is a kid and they cast a kid and he looks like a kid. azula looks very young - in the cartoon (esp when you're a kid) you don't really think about it but she is a child. it's important that they're kids

the actors are doing a great job and I don't want to hear SHIT against them

suki's mom!!!!! I LOVE suki's mom as the tough-as-nails leader of kyoshi village. a shining example of a GOOD deviation from the original. changes can be good suki's mom is wonderful 10/10 no notes

some of the cgi looks really good!!! the wide shots of omashu look cool as hell and I know some people hate how the bending looks but I think it looks great. it was always gonna be hard to translate to live action but I think the cgi bending looks about as perfect as it could

I thought it was cool how kyoshi like possessed him while he was in the avatar state. an interesting take on what the avatar state entails, lots of potential, and kyoshi herself showing up to save her village was a great use of it

Have you read about that "protest" action at Stonehenge? It pisses me off to end for so many reasons. Mainly how counter-productive and idiotic it is.

It's the same group that vandalised some private jets. Which is fine, go destroy or spraypaint symbols of the rich.

But throwing orange whatever it was onto an ancient site, insulting the spiritual heritage of it and most likely destroying the lichen and plant life that grows on it... Boils my blood.

Stonehenge was rebuilt in the early 1900s anyway.

A cornstarch paste will wash off in the rain, the Stonehenge twitter account is moaning about the lichen that grows on the rocks, but the lichen can't adapt to increases in temperature that quickly. When global temperatures rise by 2.5C the lichen will be gone.

Stonehenge's UNESCO status is already going to be hit because the government planned to build a tunnel beside it.

And while I know that's not the angle that you are coming from, I've already seen too many facebook dads talk about the lichen while being the same people who angrily fight against Low Emission Zones.
