Hottest Events in Miami and Naples this October - November 2019
Fall in Miami and Naples can be a wonderful time of year. It’s much cooler and a little less humid than the height of summer, with highs in the temperate 70s and 80s. Crowds can be much thinner, too, making for shorter lines and easier admission to top attractions. If you’re planning a trip and looking for things to do in Miami and Naples this October and November in the Fall, take a look at our suggestions for the top attractions and activities to check out this fall: Miami Book Fair, Nov. 17-24, 2019, Miami
More than 450 top-tier authors read and discuss their work at one of the best book fairs in the nation. During Street Fair weekend, Nov. 22-24, more than 250 publishers and booksellers exhibit and sell books, with special features like the antiquarians, who showcase signed first editions, original manuscripts, and other collectibles. Live music accompanies the street fair.
Monster Splash @ Miami Seaquarium
October 2019
Miami Seaquarium
This delightful family event, taking place several weekends throughout October, is perfect for getting in all your favorite fall activities. Find your way through the hay maze, wander a picturesque pumpkin patch, craft your most intimidating (or friendliest!) scarecrow, and take part in Flipper’s Dance Party. Kids can also enjoy face-painting, inflatable toys, children’s rides, and much more. It’s a must-visit for families with kids! Aside from celebrating the fall, you can also see all the exhibits and animals that call the aquarium home every day.
Zoo Boo @ Zoo Miami
October 26-27, 2019
Zoo MiamiFamilies
will love the gently spooky fun of the daytime Zoo Boo. Come in costume with your kids 12 and under for some special treats, a family costume contest, and see the animals get special Halloween treats. There will also be music, games with fun prizes, and friendly costumed staff to make the environment really festive. This is the perfect excuse to celebrate Halloween while exploring the many animals that call the zoo home. See lions, bears, and tigers while you’re all dressed up!
Art Deco Walking Tours
Now that the weather has cooled off a bit and things have become less swampy, spend some time strolling around and enjoying the stunning historic architecture of the Art Deco District. Take a walking tour of this historic district conducted by local historians and architects that have extensive knowledge of the art building and styles. Walk by the retro, colorful buildings and snap pictures as you learn more about this era of architectural exploration.
Millionaire’s Row Cruises
Revel in the wonderful breezes dancing across Biscayne Bay on a peaceful and relaxing sightseeing cruise. Enjoy 90-minutes of relaxation aboard the cruise ship as you float around the bay. Soak in the natural beauty of the Venetian Islands while enjoying delicious food and drinks. You’ll get to enjoy unparalleled views of the natural beauty of Biscayne Bay, plus the stunning architecture of Millionaire’s Row. It’s also worth the chance to enjoy the experience without a massive crowd. Jungle Island
This is one of Miami’s most popular animal attractions and it’s well worth a visit in the proverbial off season (Miami is kind of fantastic year ‘round, we just mean the season with fewer tourists). You’ll get to enjoy close-up animal encounters, expert demonstrations, and meet some of the cooler critters around. You’ll even have a chance to test your bravery on a skydiving simulator. Jungle Island is full of things to do, from seeing your favorite animal to games and rides.Miami Bus TourAnother one to enjoy with a much thinner crowd. We’ve talked about how cool the Big Bus is, and how it’s a great way to explore Miami with minimal fuss. Use it as the backbone of your trip and you’ll see how easy it is! Some highlights of this open-air bus tour include South Beach, Coconut Grove, Little Havana, and more. On the Yellow Route, you’ll also drive past the Villa Vizcaya, Miami Seaquarium, and the Pérez Art Museum.
Miami Broward Carnival
October 13-14, 2019
Miami-Dade Country Fairgrounds
Indulge in a masquerade as locals and visitors alike celebrate Caribbean culture and heritage. You’ll see amazing pageantry, talented musical performances, and all-around fantastic entertainment. Leading up to the big event, there are few other events to attend as well. Miami Junior Carnival on September 29th, Miami Carnival’s Panorama on October 5th, and Miami Carnival Official J’Ouvert on October 6th. These mini-events will hype you up for the grand celebration on October 7th.
Kiteober FestOctober 19-20, 2019
Haulover ParkThis
is the ideal family event in Miami. It’s a giant festival dedicated exclusively to the flying of colorful, fanciful kites, so who wouldn’t love it? Take advantage of paper kite-building classes, expert demonstrations, and kite-flying competitions for all ages. Bring your own kite or purchase one on-site. Be sure to sample something from the nearby food trucks, too!
South Beach Seafood
WeekOctober 22-26, 2019
Miami BeachA fantastic, multi-day culinary event that celebrates South Florida’s delectable seafood culture, this festival is a must-do for foodies. It also marks the kick-off of Miami’s stone crab season, so it’s a great chance to be introduced to a local foodie favorite. Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without great drinks, live entertainment, and specialty kids’ events! There’s something for everyone at the South Beach Seafood Festival.

Set Sail Around the World with Nowboat
When it comes to vacations, cruises are a great way to travel, explore, and see multiple cities. After all, who hasn’t dreamt of sailing up a riviera or taking a cruise around beautiful islands far off the mainland? For those who want a more intimate trip though, one with far less tourists and a captain who truly knows the waters, Nowboat is a new global service to consider that connects travelers to captains who want to offer up their fleets and adventures, kind of like a Hotels.com of boats and cruises. All listings are personally vetted by Nowboat so you can choose your adventures without worry, and they’re available in over 50 countries. If you’re considering giving up a few paid vacation days to sail around the word, read on to see which trips Nowboat founder Giovanni Alessi personally recommends, as well the 6 essential accessories he packs himself.
1. 1 Day Private Charter in Hong Kong This is a private charter in Hong Kong, where the captain, Eric, will customize an itinerary for the adventure you’re looking for. From snorkeling and wakeboarding, to relaxation and great food, Eric will suggest destinations like the magical Wildest Beach, quintessential Long Ke Beach, clear and clean Silvermine Bay Beach, and the modern Macau Lights for a personalized East-meets-West experience. I’ve had the pleasure of joining Eric on the Numarine many times; it really is an exciting and incredible yacht, and one of the best ways to experience our beloved Hong Kong, where I call home.
2. Bike & Boat on board of Ave Maria in Lombardy, Italy Italy, the country where I come from, hosts a different kind of water adventure: bike and boat. On this trip, each guest is given a bike to get around during the day, on land, and the boat serves as a sort of floating hotel for meals, accommodation, and to give the option of a lazy day on board. Cruising on rivers and having the opportunity to discover this region’s heritage on two wheels make this a unique adventure. If you are a bike rider and you would love to explore the beautiful secrets of Italy, you are in the right place!
3. 14 Days in the Antarctic Circle in Argentina Who said that oceans are impressive only in warm temperatures? I haven’t yet been lucky enough to explore our poles, but the day I’ll be able to do so, and I’ll do it on a cruise like this and hope to be able to hug a penguin! This special once-a-year voyage leaves from Ushuaia, Argentina and focuses on the Gerlache Strait area, where towering mountains, gigantic glaciers, and blue icebergs set the scene for encounters with penguins and marine mammals. The trip also include a free photography program with experts to help you capture the other-worldly sites you’ll see.
4. Ferretti 94 in Florida, USA In my opinion, Florida is not Florida if you don’t see it from the sea. Cruising around the beautiful Miami waters are a great way to experience the city at its fullest. This mega-yacht has 4 extremely spacious staterooms, 5 bathrooms, a particularly lofty flybridge with a Jacuzzi, and a large aft deck. It’s great for a group who loves relaxation or revelry and will tour around breathtaking islands including Millionaires Row – featuring the expensive villas of the rich and famous – Star Island, Hibiscus Island, Fisher Island, Downtown Miami, Biscayne Bay, Nixon Sand Bar, and more.
5. 8 Days Christmas Special Expedition Cruise in Galapagos, Ecuador For another once-a-year special expedition, my pick is this 8-day Christmas cruise in the Galapagos Islands because, well, it’s in a word: paradise. Galapagos National Park is THE place to go in order to feel close to wildlife and nature. Aboard this modern Italian yacht, visitors will follow in the steps of Charles Darwin who voyaged here to study the vast number of unique indigenous species and pave the way for his formulation of this theory of evolution by natural selection, changing the way we look at nature and the world forever. If you’re in search of an adventure that will touch your heart and soul and leave you with experiences and memories to cherish for the rest of your life, this is definitely it.
6. An agenda …to jot down ideas, thoughts and things that inspire me. I also stick museum and plane tickets on the blank pages. Most importantly, this is where I keep the running, and often very long, lists of things I have to do every day – I’d be lost without it. I like Muji’s stationery because objects have to be partners with their owner, not stealing the scene. I don’t like objects that are over designed at all. Through Muji’s simple, effective designs they leave room to add my own personality.
7. A swimsuit It’s always difficult to determine the best ethical options, even among the so called ethical brands. Maybe they address materials issues but not employment issues, maybe they seem sustainable but from a profit perspective they aren’t really virtuous. One thing I think we can all agree on is we have to start from somewhere and I love these 100% recycled and recyclable polyester swimsuits!
8. Bendable Sunglasses My friend recently launched this brand of bendable sunglasses – you can wrap them around your arm or backpack. I’ve been traveling and kiting with them for quite a while now, you can make your own glasses by choosing temples and lenses and combining them.
9. A Stainless Steel Bottle You know they predicted by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean? Hence the importance of traveling with and drinking out of a non-plastic bottle, one that I can reuse over and over again.
10. Binchotan Charcoal At home, where tap water is safe to drink, I purify it with binchotan charcoal, something the Japanese have been doing for centuries and the rest of the world is hopefully catching on it.
11. Revl Camera It’s perfect for action footage and allows for a lot of quick editing of the videos thanks to its stabilizer. I find it technically way more interesting than the other cameras that are around. I recently met the founder of the company, Eric Sanchez Curti, at the Ocean Gala in San Francisco and was absolutely blown away.
Life begins at 20 knots. Visit nowboat.com to book your next sailing adventure.

Miami's Sizzling Culture
Some call it the American Riviera, others the Gateway to America; regardless of Miami's aliases, it is a choice destination for many travelers. With its year-round warm climate and diverse cultural influences, Miami is one of the most visited cities in Florida. If a trip to Miami is in your future, you won't be disappointed by the native culture which is influenced mostly by Latin American and European heritages.
Miami is the fourth most populated city in the United States for escorts in miami so you can bet there are always people about to make things interesting. Located between the Florida Everglades and Biscayne Bay, Miami has a stretch of beaches along the Atlantic Coast for sun and surf, the most notorious of which is South Beach. South Beach gets a great deal of attention and makes for non-stop excitement. With over 100 establishments, including restaurants and nightclubs, located along its stretch, South Beach doesn't close when the sun goes down. South Beach is where people in Miami go to see and be seen.
Due to various cultural influences in Miami, there is a variety of entertainment venues, museums, and attractions that reflect the diversity of the city. Second in size only to the Lincoln Center, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is Florida's premiere performing arts center and home to the Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, and the New World Symphony. This classic cultural attraction is conveniently located downtown in Miami's Media and Entertainment District, known as the Omni. The Omni is also home to The Miami Herald, The Miami New Times, and the Opera Tower which are architectural points of interest.
While staying in Miami, visitors have many options to experience the coastal way of life. There are literally dozens of rental facilities along the beach for renting dune buggies, golf carts, sea-dos, surfboards and boats. When you've had your fill of sand and sea, there's no shortage of options. Families and animal lovers will enjoy the Seaquarium and Miami MetroZoo, both of which are outdoor attractions. Seaquarium is an outdoor aquarium experience and Miami MetroZoo is a free-range zoo with entirely cageless exhibits. Parrot Jungle Island and Monkey Jungle are also hot spots for animal lovers. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the educational opportunities at Miami's Children's Museum and Miami Museum of Science.
When you've taken in all the beaches and attractions, enjoy the cultural exploration of Miami's nightlife or simply enjoy nature with a visit to the Florida Everglades. The nightlife in Miami is as hot as the days at the beach with bars and dance clubs featuring Jazz, Latin American music and more. If you prefer a more formal means of sightseeing, then take in the sights be sea. Sightseeing cruises are available daily from Island Queen Cruises located in the bay. You can also opt for party fishing cruise or rent a chartered boat for a day of fishing from a number of local marinas.
Your stay in Miami should be unforgettable and whether you choose to stay on the beach, near the airport, or downtown, there are a number of Miami hotels to choose from, many of which offer special rates and discount packages. Before you book, check for specials offered in conjunction with attractions or sites you want to visit, as well as off-season and discounted rates during special promotions. Miami is a congested city but there are many options for traveling about. Hotel rates are often higher on the beach, especially in South Beach, but there are many different price ranges to choose from. Booking in advance can often save you money.
Remember to plan your travel arrangements in Miami in advance. You can rent a car, locate yourself within walking distance to your desired destinations, or simply call a cab. If you need special accommodations at your lodging, just ask.
Whether you've never been to Miami or it's old hat, a vacation to Miami Beach is unforgettable. You can't see it all in one trip but Miami has much to offer for even the most discriminating tourist. It is particularly beautiful in the fall and winter, especially after the threat of hurricane season has waned. Miami is as close to a tropical getaway as you can get without leaving the continental U.S. It is also the perfect combination of exciting nightlife and daytime relaxation.

Much Like a Work on a Photo (Biscayne National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Much Like a Work on a Photo Or renovations on a lighthouse What is required in America is never done Yes, there is the ideal It is magical, a shining light A draw to those in foreign lands As well as those living here Always striving for something better The flag flies above Unfurled with a passing wind Drawing our heads to look up Smiling at the stars and stripes While taking in a beautifully sunny day I will remember my service And no, the work is never done But for today I will enjoy Biscayne National Park With the American flag flying high above! Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured day while spending a few hours on a boat ride tour of Biscayne National Park. The image was captured at Boca Chita Key with a view looking to the northwest to the lighthouse with the US Flag out front near a pavilion. I chose to angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly upward, as I wanted to capture more of the blue skies and clouds as a backdrop with the American flag and light house. I liked how there was enough foreground interest too with the nearby grassy area and blue waters of Biscayne Bay. The original image composed included construction equipment around the lighthouse that was undergoing renovation. I used Photoshop to remove that equipment. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 8. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 7 where I added a Polarization, Foliage, and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.
