Goat Milk Soap
This soap is made with the cold process method, and I鈥檝e found it to be a really soothing recipe. I hope you enjoy it!
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
3 ounces almond oil
10 ounces olive oil
6 ounces palm oil
2 ounces castor oil
10 ounces coconut oil
3 ounces shea butter
1 ounce beeswax
4.91 ounces lye
12 ounces goat milk
Instructions:
Prepare the goat milk by freezing for a few hours until it reaches a slushy consistency
Add the lye to the partially frozen milk and stir until completely blended. Set it aside in a safe place where it won鈥檛 be contaminated
Measure your oils, butters, and beeswax and melt over low heat until completely melted and heated to 140 degrees. Set aside to cool
Prep your soap mold and any color or fragrance you are using.
When the milk and oils have cooled to about 110 degrees, pour the milk into the melted oils and blend using a stick blender
Mix until the soap thickens slightly and a trail of soap rests on top of the batter instead of immediately sinking into said batter
Add desired fragrance or color, stirring in by hand.
Pour into soap mold, gently smoothing out top. Place in fridge or freezer to avoid cracking
Release the soap from its mold after 24 hours (cut into bars if not in a special mold) and allow to cure for 2 weeks before using

Getting in a few last loaves of soap before I run out of curing time for Sherwood. Yesterday鈥檚 turmeric ginger orange loaves turned out really nice; wasn鈥檛 sure how deep the color would be but I鈥檓 pleased with it. I imagine it鈥檒l fade a little as it cures. I think I鈥檝e got time for one more batch, a Cambrian blue clay bar using sea water I brought home from Greece.

Note! OP says in comments of the video that the mixture only lasts 4-5 days with this recipe as there are no preservatives. 鉂わ笍

Natural Soap Coloring Techniques
All of these coloring techniques can be used in all methods of soap making (hot process, cold process, melt and pour).聽
Tumblr media
Clay
Adding clay to your soaps can give them an extra slip that can be beneficial for shaving. Clay can also make your soaps harder and denser, making them last a bit longer.
Red and Pinks:
French Pink Clay
Moroccan Red Clay
Greens:
French Green Clay
Herbs
Plants are incredible for coloring your soaps!聽
Powdered leaves can also be added to the soap batter, the lye solution, or the melted oils for a grainier look to your soap (you鈥檒l need to powder the roots, leaves, berries as finely as possible if you choose to use powdered herbs for your soap).
Teas can be substituted for a portion (or all) of the water within a soap recipe. This will color the water, which will add color to the soap without the extra powders/speckles of other techniques.
However:聽Expect most herbs you add to soap to turn a brownish color over time. Rarely do they retain their vibrant original color through the saponification process
Browns:
Clove
Cinnamon (can be irritating for some people鈥檚 skin)
Red and Pinks:
Madder Root
Greens:
Nettle Leaf Powder
Yellows:
Calendula Petals
Pumpkin Puree
Purples/Blues:
Blue Cornmeal
Black:聽
Activated Charcoal

Happy Fall 2024
My name is MK. Everything I do is part of my homesteading life style. I love to read, write, sew, bake and create new things every day. I have raised my daughters to be strong, independent young women and my eldest daughter has just gifted me with my second grandson. Those kids inspire me every single day to make their world a better place and make non-toxic and all natural products. There is something cathartic about making soaps and therapeutic products and supplemental tinctures to take charge of one's own health. I love to write poems and silly stories for my kids and grandkids but I also like to write serious short stories for adults. things that make you think, things that make me think and ideas that. I hope to bring to fruition one day soon. I recently moved and the huge back yard was grossly overgrown and a total GOLD MINE of wild plants, local native plants and herbs that I researched and discovered to be medicinal or edible in nature. I have used them to make many products that -- Spanish Needle (Bidens alba) , Ohio Spiderwort, Wild Yaupon Holly (Yaupon Tea), mosses, flowers for essences, etc. I've collected seeds and plant clippings that I hope tp one day move to my own piece of property one day soon. I want a tea garden, an herb garden, a veggie garden, to raise my own animals. all because I'm tired of the factory farming in this country that is putting my family's health at risk. I will find alternative methods for. caring for my own health and well-being. I hope you join me on this journey and I hope we can share advice and recipes! #naturalliving #homesteading #homegrown #healthyliving #organicandnontoxic #familyfarming #notofactoryfarming
