TW - BLACK HISTORY MONTH QUOTE 3
Thursday, February 1, 2024
“We now know, thanks to developments in DNA analysis, that one in three African American males carries a Y-DNA signature inherited from a direct white male ancestor. Say, a great great great grandfather. And that the average African American autosomal admixture is about 25% European. These startling results could only reflect the frequency of the rape of black women by white men during slavery. The science is irrefutable and telling, and the creation of the stereotype of the black male as rapist can be seen as repression of the guilt and crime of rape projected onto black males.” – Henry Louis Gates Jr., Stony the Road: Reconstruction, White Supremacy, and the Rise of Jim Crow

BookOutlet Haul📚 • I placed this order specifically for The Living Blood by Tananarive Due because on Amazon, I think, the price is over $20😳 When I showcased this author in February I soon found out I only owned two books in the series. Now, after some hiccups, I own all of them. . I prefer paperback books and own The Bondwoman's Narrative in hardcover. So, I was ecstatic to see it in paperback on BO. I couldn't believe my luck finding Shelter on the site and for a very good price. Many booktubers have said they enjoyed it. Last but not least I will snatch every book I find by Ashley Antoinette because so far, for me, her books don't disappoint and are page tuners. • #bookhaul #bookoutlet #bookoutlethaul #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksovertv #bookphotography #ashleyantoinette #hannahcrafts #henrylouisgatesjr #tananarivedue #jungyun #bibliophile #blackbooks #blackgirlmagic #thebondwomansnarrative

Harriet E. Wilson was born on March 15, 1825 and died June 28, 1900. Ms. Wilson is considered the first female African-American novelist, as well as the first African American of any gender to publish a novel on the North American continent. Her novel Our Nig, or Sketches from the Life of a Free Black was published anonymously in 1859 in Boston, Massachusetts, and was not widely known. The novel was discovered in 1982 by the scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., who documented it as the first African-American novel published in the United States. The novel, The Bondwoman's Narrative by Hannah Crafts, published for the first time in 2002, may have been written before Wilson's book. Born a free person of color (free Negro) in New Hampshire, Wilson was orphaned when young and bound until the age of 18 as an indentured servant. She struggled to make a living after that, marrying twice; her only son George died at the age of seven in the poor house, where she had placed him while trying to survive as a widow. She wrote one novel. Wilson later was associated with the Spiritualist church, was paid on the public lecture circuit for her lectures about her life, and worked as a housekeeper in a boarding house. #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #black #africanamericanhistory #africanamerican #usa #us #novel #harrietewilson #writer #harrietwilson #novelist #ournig #freeblack #published #anonymously #northamerica #scholar #henrylouisgatesjr #mixedrace #sketches #bostonmassachusetts #boston

Sunday Audiobook and Kindle Deals
Sunday Audiobook and Kindle Deals, plenty are FREE! #audiobook #kindledeals #janeausten #charlottebronte #harlemhellfighters #blackamerica #henrylouisgatesjr #pbs #andstillirise #footballfans #NFL #theartofwar #amazonfirstreads #bargainsleuth #ebooks
If you’re looking for a lot of Audiobook deals, I’m sorry to say that currently I only found one book through my usual outlets. Usually I can come up with a few each week, but right now Audible is not giving any deals on Audiobooks besides their daily deal, which is a shame, because I could always use more! As for the Kindle Deals, there’s nothing over $2.99 and as always, some ebooks are FREE!…

Day. 5 - Henry Louis Gates Jr. Born: September 16, 1950 in Keyser, West Virginia Highlight: First African American to recieve the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowship Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is an American literary critic, teacher, historian, filmmaker and public intellectual who currently serves as the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University. He also hosted the series Finding Your Roots on PBS. The series combines the work of expert researchers in genealogy, history, and genetics historic research to tell guests about their ancestors' lives and histories. Gates was the first African American to receive the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowship, a private foundation with focus in 5 core areas; higher education, museums and art conservation, performing arts, conservation and the enviroment, and information technology with software development. He was also asked to give the "Jefferson Lecture", a lecture that is considered to be "the highest honor the federal government confers for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities." In recent years, Gates gained national attention when he was arrested outside of his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts by an officer responding to a possible breaking and entering. Then, newly appointed, president Barack Obama responded to the situation by saying the police "acted stupidly" in their apprehension of Gates. He later invited the two to the White House to share a beer. #Day5 #BlackHistoryMonthTribute #2018 #HenryLouisGatesJr
