What's one of your favorite TDP headcanons you have?

Ooh! One of my all-time favourite headcanons is that Nyx and Hendyr are siblings or found family, either way.

I like the idea of them being alone from a young age and Hendyr having to practically raise Nyx himself (not sure what the age gap would be but he's at least a few years older). I think he would have shielded Nyx from a lot of the worst the world had to offer so that she could lead her more carefree lifestyle growing up, which reflects in his scarred face (his left cheek) while she has none.

So when his talents were acknowledged and he was chosen to join the Dragonguard, it was difficult to leave her on her own - even if she was older by this point - because they were always together. While Nyx enjoys the thrill of their vagabond life as thieves, Hendyr wants her to be able to live a more comfortable and safe life eventually, and with honour as a Dragonguard that could be way more possible than continuing down the road they are right now.

But I think it also would add to his reasoning of choosing life over honour when faced with certain death in the one scene he appears in the show.

Unlike Rayla who has a whole village to take care of her, Nyx has nobody else (except her Ambler by this point probably). Hendyr doesn't have that level of security for Nyx's future, nor has he been raised in a community that value honour over their lives. He grew up as a street rat and a thief, not a noble warrior, so in line with this headcanon it just makes sense that he made the choice he did, and I think it adds extra flavour even if his choice was still callous to his peers. We've had a lot of characters make many choices based on their family throughout the series, so it's just another case of it!

Maybe it can also serve as another reason Nyx wanted to steal Zym to take the credit for herself, as a means of potentially pardoning Hendyr. I love when things intertwine anyway lmao.

I was more active about this headcanon in 2020, so I never really expanded on it in more recent seasons, but I still love it a lot. I should draw them again sometime ;-;

i love the lore that donnic plays cards with fenris not least of which becuz it brings me joy to try to conceive of how this happened. imagine fenris is sick of varric making jokes about him brooding in his corpse-filled mansion so he decides to host card games becuz that is a normal thing for sociable free people to do. but he needs to show varric that he knows more than just hawke's circle and he remembers that aveline got married to that one guard and figures that'll suffice. so he tracks donnic down at a bar or his place of work and approaches him in his perfunctory way and says i am hosting cards this evening, you should come, if you would like. and donnic only vaguely knows this man as someone his wife runs around committing crimes with in her free time and he thinks it's nice fenris is reaching out so he says sure where do you live. and this elf with a foreign accent carrying a sword as long as he is tall tells him he lives in the abandoned mansion in hightown. and donnic is just like,, okay i'll see you there then. fenris just says you shall and leaves. and then donnic gets there and the other players are varric who is a renowned author and criminal and the darktown healer who (from his wife's complaints) is supposed to be at odds with fenris. and this is just his life now

I love Donnic as a character.

He seems like the most normal guy in Kirkwall but he’s gotta be just a *little* off his rocker to hang out with all of Aveline’s rag tag, apostate, fugitive, mercenary friends. Bro literally saw Fenris squatting in high town and was like “yeah I’d like to drink and play cards and have guy time with that dude.”

Like he and Aveline are literally perfect. He knows that these people are the closest she has to family in Kirkwall and he’s happy to befriend them too, to accept her world, as crazy as it can be.

So many fic writers don’t acknowledge the fact that canonically Fenris hosts a game night with Donnic at the mansion WEEKLY

Like sure he probably put them on hold for a bit after his personal quests since oof those were not good times but past that he sees Donnic once a week!

So many of you guys are missing out on A - probably one of/the only friend Fenris consistently hangs out with OUTSIDE of Hawke and Co (even though he’s Aveline’s husband lmao). And B - the closeness and hilarity of their relationship, like they do this for years, they clearly talk to each other about a lot. To the point where Donnic tells him about maybe having children and stuff, which Fenris then asks Aveline about and she goes ‘you two talk too much’ LIKE??? ITS RIGHT THERE IN CANNON

The funny part comes in when you’re romancing Fenris because everyone depicts him as like brooding about it alone in his mansion for weeks (which he definitely did ngl) but then only confiding in either no one at all or like Varric WHEN DONNIC IS CANONICALLY RIGHT THERE

Like can you imagine that at one point during one of their game nights in Act 3 Fenris is like:

“Donnic”

“Yeah?”

“So you are married…”

“Listen Fenris, buddy, you’re right. I am happily married and as your friend I would love to give you relationship advice but you were there for the absolute mess that was Aveline trying to court me. You know full well why I can’t really help you get with Hawke. The two of you combined are worse than even my dear wife.”

“We are not that bad”

“Fenris”

“Fasta vaas, fine. So what now?”

“Well I can offer encouragement, Aveline is close with Hawke used to have tea with her mother a lot, so I can tell you with absolute certainty that Hawke is into you and Leandra wouldn’t have disapproved. You just have to make your move… and also never tell either of them that I told you this”

*Meanwhile in the Hawke estate*

“Aveline I need you to do me a favour and get Donnic to find out if Fenris is still into me”

“What?”

“You told me they hang out a lot! And I can’t just ask him that myself so I need you to find out for me Please? I really need you to return the favour here!”

I think this would be an absolutely hilarious interpretation of canon events and a really funny and sweet dynamic between the four of them. The rest of the Hawke flock could joke about them going on double dates lmao

TLDR: Donnic and Fenris are canonically really good friends and this should be acknowledged more in fics and stuff

(Fenris and Aveline are also good friends fyi but that’s for a different post. As well as something I have actually seen a couple of people talk about on here so yeah another time)

Is it possible to do Aveline's Act 2 personal quest in such a way that she doesn't end up with Donnic?

I find the very premise of that quest questionable considering Donnic is Aveline's subordinate, but because I refused to do it my first playthrough, I locked myself out of further personal quests with Aveline.

Oh and because I'll be writing about these two soon I thought I'd toss up some cents design wise:

The larger Celestial elf is Astrid, who we've seen pictures of at a couple of cons, voiced by Boone Williams. She's the one celestial elf with a name thus far, and most of us are predicting she may help Callum and Rayla (even if the other celestial elves aren't as friendly / on board if not antagonistic). She has wings, though the fact they're white, I think, is meant to maybe evoke angels > the other wing colours we've seen before on Nyx, Callum, and the Dragonguard Hendyr.

The second elf seems male judging by the shorter hair, but who knows. He also notably doesn't have natural wings or Callum's spelled wings, instead having something that seems almost-insect like. Maybe a contraption to wear or a spell to use? I did find it interesting that unlike Astrid, he wears silver bracelets around his wrists, which makes me think of chains / Callum's own golden symbolic chains in his arc 2 design.

Moving on...

One thing I did notice at first was that these two actually have pretty similar hair in regards to the part and both having some kind of hair dye. It's too soon to say if this indicates a close (familial?) connection or if it's traditional for celestial elves alongside their garb and blind folds. The uneven quality to the dye is consistent, and both seem to have some white/grey hair mixed in as well (boy with the top of his hair, Astrid along the ends) which... we don't see any elves have naturally white hair other than Moonshadow elves, so... maybe the celestial elves aren't against dark magic either?

We'll just have to wait and see
