Caleb and Joshua encouraged the people to trust God and go claim the land. They focused on God instead of their problems. If we focus on the problems, Instead of trying to make a difference, the fear then grows. Change your focus. In the light of the Almighty God, those problems will shrink. Choose to focus on God’s Power instead of your problems. Joshua and Caleb scouted for 40 days in the Promised land with those 10 negative spies. Yet, they still remained FAITHFUL to GOD! They didn’t give in to peer pressure. Pessimistic people are the enemy of God’s plan. God has good plans for you. He wants to bless you and lead you beyond where you are, but pessimistic people will keep you from that if you listen to them. Focus on God instead of the enemy! Here’s what happens when you focus on God instead of fear: Joshua and Caleb got to receive God’s Promises while the others didn’t. When I overcome fear, I receive God’s reward. It’s not a sin to be afraid. It’s what you do with that fear and where you focus that leads to sin. There are frightening things in this world but we serve a God that’s far more powerful and loving then ALL of our fears. Remember, Perfect Love casts out fear so if we trust God, He’ll cast out our fears because He is Perfect Love. We have nothing to fear when we’re with Him. I pray you remember that. Everyone has fears. Fears like heights and snakes are rational and don’t have that big of an impact on your life. However, some fears can take over your life. Like the pandemic. The fear of what’s going to happen can leave us depressed, not going to church, filled with anxiety. Or the fear of failure keeps us from trying new things, despite being stuck in a rut. What do you fear? What keeps you from obeying God? Moses led Israel to the promised Land. When they reached it, he sent spies to scout ahead. The scouts returned with mixed news. The land was incredible but the people there were strong and scary. 10 out of the 12 spies were scared. When you focus on the wrong things, your fear grows. “What if they don’t like me?” “What if this is as good as it gets?” “What if I get COVID?” “What if I fail again?” What you focus on GROWS! Your focus can make you afraid. Caleb, one of the spies, was gassing the people up to go claim the land, but the rest were against it. These are Fear feeders: Negative people that feed into fear and toxic emotions. Instead of listening to God’s Promises, the Israelites listened to the fear-feeders. Fear makes you distort reality. So All the Israelites complained and threw a pity party. “Why did God lead us here?” “Let’s just go back to being slaves!”. BECAUSE ten guys were negative, the whole nation decided to become negative. Say you have a jar and you fill it with candy. You’re not going to be afraid to blindly stick your hand in and grab stuff because you KNOW what it’s filled with BECUASE YOU put it there. And candy is yummy. However, some of us are filling our “jars” with stuff that isn’t GOOD. Bad gossip, scary news, etc. The more toxic media you consume, the more toxic your jar becomes. And no one wants to be near that!
