After all, who wants to live in a world where love is not enough? If love isn’t enough, what the hell is?

Burnout is honestly such a mild word for what people use it to mean. I'm not experiencing "burnout", which sounds so casual and routine that some face masks and a little rest is going to fix it.
My body and mind and even nervous system are stretched to the point that it's going to take a lot more than just a "break" or a few self care tips to recover, and even then, my recovery is just so that I can reenter the spaces that contributed to me being this way in the first place. I'm a little bit more than just burnt out by this.
Workplaces and educational institutions aggressively overwork us, expose us to all kinds of discrimination, which they overlook and gaslight us out of acknowledging, and then constantly ask us to ignore our mental, emotional, and physical needs so that we don't inconvenience them.
We're not burnt out. We're borderline traumatized. Burnout is always talked about like something transient and mild that a little rest and relaxation will fix.
But we're exhausted. We need deep rest and healing. We need new systems. We need new ways of being. The language around burnout just seems like a way of upholding these current violent systems and downplaying their impacts.

We all yearn for simple pleasures. The first sip of coffee, the smell of wet grass after a heavy rain—oh yes, that petrichor, bumping into a long lost friend in the grocery store, the grace of every sunrise, finding out the title of that song you heard in the car, a complete one-hour nap, the colour palette in your closet, the earth tones of your room, that warm and bright morning, the cold air in the afternoon, that perfectly cooked pancakes, the pink skies, those newly unfurled leaves, those hopeful epilogues, the noise that the trains make, the after-party drinks, lemonades during summer, the thrill of opening gifts, the sound of a rumbling sky, those dark clouds and gloomy weather, a golden sunset, window seat during a flight, that tap on your shoulder, that kiss of good night—the beauty of small luxury; these simple joys. Something that makes you realise that life is worth while. It's unselfish of you to desire all of it.

life is not about being something, but someone.
those are words my beautiful mama not only lives by, but also taught me as i was growing up. many times she told me and every time i listened.
life is not about what you brag about and put on your resume, it’s not about the size of your paycheck or the power of your job position. it’s not about the distance you ran, what grade you got in class or how many likes you got on your last post. it’s not about what you can be, it’s about who you can be. the dreams and goals you have, the kindness you show to friends, lovers and strangers, the jokes you crack to make others laugh. the feeling of freedom you feel when running, the attention to detail you put into your drawing. it’s what you feel, think and enjoy, it’s who you are.
it’s not what you do, it’s why you do it.
my mama taught me that it’s not what we are, it’s who we are. it’s not what we can brag about having done in the past, it’s about what we’re doing in this very moment. it’s how we are kind to one another, help and spread empathy. when i am sad, feeling useless, lacking and unproductive ‘cause i “should’ve done more with my life”… she tells me how proud she is of me, not for what i have or have not done, but for who i have become; how i treat my loved ones, how i think independently, and stand up for what i believe in. and she remind me of it once again:
life is not about being something, but someone.
