I saw this and spouted a couple of thousand words.

Summary: You’re the person in control of Jackson’s alcohol production and distribution.
You’ve been trying not to crush on Joel Miller, and having some time away to focus on producing some drinks for the winter dance in 2038 gives you some much needed time apart.
Until you see his beautifully outgrown hair…

Chapter One (Chapter two - here)
Joel Miller’s hair was going to be the death of you.
As the person with control over the alcohol distribution in Jackson, you were one of the only people allowed in Joel’s small circle of trust. Years ago when he’d joined the community with his sort-of daughter, he sought you out. You, who’d grown up working in your families distillery Before. You who were strong-willed enough to manage the most popular non-essential resource in town, and the arguments that came along with it. Joel, however, was ever the Southern gentleman.
“Excuse me ma’am, sorry to bother ya, but my brother, Tommy…he said you’re the lady I need to come to to barter for more than my assigned ration of whiskey?”
Despite his size, he seemed small in that moment. Nervous. Perhaps even shy?
“Tommy knows better than to call me a lady, ain’t ever been one of those. But he’s right about how I got the hookup. I got a distillery system set up here, raided the Jackson Hole Still Works south of here a few years back for the equipment, but production is still limited. How much you looking for?”
He stood before you, rubbing the back of his neck and pointedly avoiding contact with your eyes. You figured out later that it was lucky on your end he did that, as your usually steely will had a kryptonite in his baby brown eyes.
“Double the ration amount ongoing? I ain’t got nothing physical to trade yet, but I’ll be a full-time patroller soon if ya need somethin’. Or I’m good with my hands”
You smirked and giggled at him then, secretly knowing what he meant (Tommy had been raving on around town about his brothers contracting skills the months he’d been gone in preparation for his return), but you loved messing with guys. And watching his sun-kissed cheeks redden slightly as he realised what he’d said sent a small thrill of power down your spine.
“I…I meant buildin’. Woodwork and shit, can figure my way around a pipe too if need be. I just…” he trailed off.
That was the moment you think it all started, this stupid schoolgirl crush on a 50 odd year old man. Seeing him try not to be vulnerable with a stranger, in a strange town, in a shit world. So you take pity on him.
“Glass bottles. People are suppose to return them, but accidents happen and we have less and less all the time. They’re also heavy so patrollers don’t like to carry them back, but thats usually the currency I have with the others. Lets say average one bottle a patrol, and I get you on retainer for repairs or building work I need, and you got a deal” you stated confidently, stepping closer and held a hand out to seal the deal. Little would you know, this moment would become your undoing.
For years, you two circled around each other, waltzing around the energy you emitted. He’d come to the small distillery you ran out of an old restaurant every week, with a few precious glass bottles, and had a small stilted conversation as you updated your logs with the exchange. You learned he had a dry sense of humour like yours, that you could make the corners of his lips turn upward with a bit of town gossip, and that he’d set up a woodworking room in his house when Ellie move out to the garage. The last one came along with the first of many gifts he started giving you. Tiny little creatures he’d began whittling after the endless downtime of town living had started grating on him. On the house he’d say every time you offered a bottle of beer in exchange, giving you lip on not understanding the concept of a gift.
For years, you danced. You knew Joel didn’t feel anything like that towards you, he’d been very clear about that. A couple of years back, Tommy set him up on a date with the lady who ran the greenhouse - Esther you think? She wasn’t one for drinking so you had no clue about her really - and Joel spent a good portion of your weekly chat groaning on about the upcoming thing. You bantered back like always, but tiny pinpricks hit your heart at how adamant he was about not needing a partner like that. And honestly, it’s not something you’d ever wanted either, especially after losing Talia sometime before Joel even joined Jackson. You thought you’d had your one love, and the pain of losing another had you bat off any attention with your wit and sass, sticking to harmless flirting. But Joel had somehow nudged his way in. You resolved to start building the walls back up.
It had been easier recently. With the winter being so harsh, socialising as a town had reduced, and the council were worried about morale. Ergo - The Winter Dance.
Social events were regular in Jackson, but the council were determined to go all out with this one, wanting to coax as many residents out and having fun as possible. So for the first time, they wanted a full open bar. Usually there was a limit to keep the town from running totally dry, but some sweet talking from Maria and a promise of another raid of Jackson Hole Still Works had you agreeing to overproduce for a month before the dance to create enough supply. This meaning you and a few trusted ‘employees’ were basically living at your makeshift distillery, no time for any sort-of flirting with a certain bearded Texan.
What this also meant was that after a whole month of not laying eyes on the man, you were not prepared for the fact that he’d somehow decided to grow his hair out a bit for the winter. So when you enter the Church where the dance is being held, and you see the man leaning against the makeshift bar, you’re not prepared at all, and with the exhaustion reducing your self control, the walls came tumbling down.
Thankfully, he didn’t spot you as you entered or you knew your face would have given you away, so focussed on something in the crowd. Your eyes followed what he was looking at, and a small smile upturned the corners of your lips. Out on the dance floor was your old lover's sister Dina (who you also thought of as a sister), with her arms around Joel's now grown kid, Ellie. You hadn’t spoken much to Dina recently, after her turning 18 and joining the full-time patrol team keeping her busy, but after her on-off with Jesse the past few years, you were just glad she seemed to be moving on.
You were so focussed on the young girls, you hadn’t realised you had company.
“So you are alive. Still not used to trustin’ people, so I’m mighty glad to see ya hear tonight to prove ‘em right”
Fuck. That stupid goddamn Texan drawl. You had enough self-restraint to not look over to him, knowing that either his baby brown eyes or the new hair growth so perfect for running your hands through would be your undoing.
“Well, the Council thought it would be good for the town if everyone could get white girl wasted, so who am I to deny that request?”
You heard him snort gently next to you. The next few seconds passed in agonising silence (for you at least) before the man consuming your soul made a sound.
“So does she partake in her own goods?”
You whip your head round to look at him, confusion masked on your face, forgetting about the incandescent curls you were about to see.
He’s attuned to your facial expressions by now.
“I mean, can I get you a drink?” he mumbles, gesturing weakly to the bar in the corner where all your hard work for the past month resides.
If you had to stand there any longer, you knew you wouldn’t be able to resist grabbing those goddamn curls, so without warning, your legs took off, striding you fast and efficiently towards your goal - some fucking liquid courage.
Jeff - one of the bartenders who drew the short straw to work the dance - knew you well enough to have a double whiskey neat, ready for you to slam back the moment you were close enough.
“So you ain’t a nurse your drink kind of gal, good to know”
The fucking Texan drawl had followed you. Of course, he had longer (and so sexy and thick) legs that’d easily keep up with your small stature.
You shoved your glass back toward Jeff, before taking a deep breath and steeling your resolve as you looked back to Joel. Fuck he looks so fucking hot. You can do this, it’s just one night.
“I’ve just spent the past month pouring my blood, sweat, and tears into all this. Think I deserve to drink it however I please thank you!”
Phew. Not awful. Not as witty as you might usually be, but given the fucking hair situation, you were doing your goddamn best,
The heat emanating off him as he scooched closer to you wasn’t helping though.
“Well, I’m grateful for your effort ma’am, this is a mighty fine batch you made”
You couldn’t help but smile at that. With resources slimmer as the years go by, the quality of the alcohol you distilled varied. Joel was always an honest judge, something you’d grown to respect over the years. You knew his words were true, and fuck if it didn’t worsen your resolve.
But he wasn’t interested in you like that - in anyone. So you used the remainder of your self-control to change the subject.
“Didn’t peg you to be a community event attendee Miller, thought this was all a bunch of communist bullshit last I heard?”
He snorted a bit louder this time, somehow still ridiculously attractive.
“I was threatened from multiple angles. Ellie and Tommy together could arguably be more formidable than FEDRA when it comes to forcing me to do shit I don’t wanna do”
Inwardly, you sighed. It was nice that Joel had people who cared about him like this of course, but it just reminded you of what you didn’t have. Dina checked in occasionally, feeling a bit responsible for the woman her sister loved, and although you were friendly with most of Jackson given your role, no one cared enough about your wellbeing to force you to do something you didn’t want to do but would be good for you. Totally your fault of course, you didn’t let many people close enough for that. Still…it ached.
“Woah, hey there girlie, you with me? You started drinkin’ before you got here maybe?”
Fuck. SHIT. You got stuck in your head, and now your stupid hot crush was having to guide you gently out of the church as you slowly came back to your senses.
It was only once you’d turned a corner and were alone with him that you returned fully to your body - realising his large, calloused hand was gently gripping your upper arm.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry Joel, that hasn’t happened in a really long time. I think I’m just tired, with all the extra work and all-”
He quickly interrupted you by turning to face you head on.
“Girlie, you don’t gotta apologise, it’s kinda nice to see you be a bit human for once”
And as you looked up at his face, you saw the softest and kindest expression you’d ever seen on the survivors face, some of his previously slicked back curls popping out in the cold, forming a slightly wild halo to frame him. He was the most beautiful creature you’d ever seen, and you physically couldn’t stop yourself from stepping into his space, and reaching up a hand to gently run through his curls.
Those baby brown eyes widened slightly in shock, but otherwise he didn’t move for what felt like eternity as your fingers were buried and surrounded by his brown and grey locks, pushing through them reverently.
Slowly, one of his hands found your waist and gently tugged you forward as his other hand found your cheek, his thumb caressing your cheek. You were totally aware of your body, every feeling, but you no longer had control. And as his head tilted down to meet yours, his lips grazing on yours, you never wanted control of your body again if it meant depriving you of this feeling. You could feel him moving out of pure instinct like yourself, and despite it just being a kiss, you realised deep in your gut, that this was the start of something physically and spiritually breathtaking

𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗔𝗨 // Ghost is a human, Soap is an android and is damaged in combat. He needs a reboot and Ghost needs to make the decision: do they wipe Soap's memory or try to salvage what's left of his hard drive?
- 600 words -
___
The sound of shuffling feet precedes the door opening. Ghost stumbles into the room, wide eyed and out of breath.
"How is he?"
There's no immediate response. R.O.A.C.H.s eyes - actually cameras equipped with LED's - shift from blue to orange.
The Robotic Operations and Automated Control Hub doesn't know. Ghost doesn't blame it.
Ghost wipes his face and comes to stand behind the glass wall keeping him from Soap. One of his palms lays flat against it, and he watches as R.O.A.C.H. gets to work on Soap.
They'd hit heavy fire. Soap had been running overwatch, keeping an eye on Ghost's back until he'd stopped responding.
After the smoke had settled and the firefight had stopped, Ghost had climbed to the rooftop to find his friend.
Well.
Friend and 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥.
Soap was as much a robot as R.O.A.C.H. was. He was a Strategic Offensive Autonomous Platform, developed by the 141 Corporation to assist soldiers on tedious missions.
The only difference between R.O.A.C.H. and Soap was that well.
Soap was an android.
Equipped with soft silicone skin, bright blue eyes and pupils that reacted to light and his entire being seemed so realistic that it had 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘥 Ghost out at first to be paired with such a platform.
Until it had stopped being odd to have S.O.A.P. at his back.
Until S.O.A.P. had become 𝘚𝘰𝘢𝘱.
Soap currently laid out on a metal table with his circuitry visible and laid bare, wires poking out of his chest and the side of his head, with R.O.A.C.H.'s mechanical fingers and tongs working on adjusting everything back into place.
There's a beep and the screen on Ghost's side of the glass wall lights up with green words.
ᴍᴀɪɴ ʜᴀʀᴅ ᴅʀɪᴠᴇ ᴅᴀᴍᴀɢᴇᴅ. ꜰɪʟᴇꜱ ᴄᴏʀʀᴜᴘᴛᴇᴅ. ꜱᴜꜱᴘᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ ᴠɪʀᴜꜱ ɪɴꜰᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. ᴘʀᴏᴄᴇᴇᴅ ᴡɪᴛʜ ʀᴇʙᴏᴏᴛ?
"What does a reboot do?" he asks.
The screen idles as R.O.A.C.H. formulates an answer.
ɪꜰ ɪɴꜰᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴠɪʀᴜꜱ, ꜱ.ᴏ.ᴀ.ᴘ. ᴘʀᴇꜱᴇɴᴛꜱ ᴀ ꜱᴇᴄᴜʀɪᴛʏ ʀɪꜱᴋ. ʀᴇʙᴏᴏᴛɪɴɢ ᴇʟɪᴍɪɴᴀᴛᴇꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ʀɪꜱᴋ.
Ghost sighs. "What about his hard drive? Will it… reboot that too?"
ᴄᴏʀʀᴇᴄᴛ
Wiping his palm over his face, Ghost's other hand balls into a fist as he bangs it against the glass wall.
"Fuck," he mutters.
If he doesn't let R.O.A.C.H. perform the reboot and Soap has been infected with a virus - either malware or something worse…
He's not sure he'd ever be able to put him down with the back up security protocol the 141 Corporation had given him. One single kill word which would cause Soap to self destruct.
But if he 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 let R.O.A.C.H. reboot him, then he'd lose the contents of his hard drive.
All his memories would be wiped as Soap became S.O.A.P. again. Hard factory reset. Start from scratch again.
An echo of Soap's Scottish brogue echoes in Ghost's ears as he looks at the blinking orange LEDs of R.O.A.C.H.'s eyes waiting for instructions.
"Fix him."
The LED's shift to green at the order, and the screen lights up with R.O.A.C.H.'s response.
ɪɴɪᴛɪᴀᴛɪɴɢ ʀᴇᴘᴀɪʀꜱ. ᴇꜱᴛɪᴍᴀᴛᴇᴅ ᴅᴜʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: 5 ʜᴏᴜʀꜱ ᴀɴᴅ 12 ᴍɪɴᴜᴛᴇꜱ.
Ghost clears his throat as he looks over his shoulder. "Let me know how it progresses."
ᴀꜰꜰɪʀᴍᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ.
He watches as sparks illuminate the repair room and Soap's lifeless body disappears behind R.O.A.C.H.'s large mechanical body, other smaller machines coming in to assist in the repairs of the android.
Was the risk worth it?
Probably not.
The 141 Corporation would produce another android if this one was faulty. Or infected with malware.
But Soap was more than just a robot to Ghost. So much so that it was worth the attempt to salvage his internal memory. Even if it put everyone on base at risk.

| Glow of amber | Chapter [#1]
Word count: [ ~2890 ]
Hello everybody! This is the first story that I’m actually showing to people — so I’m a bit nervous … Although I feel confident about my English, it’s not my first language so there might be some grammatical errors along the way.
I’ve made a post explaining this AU some time ago, you can give it a read if you want to, but I will explain everything in the story eventually.
With that being said, I invite you below
Tumblr media
The corridors of Norrisville high were unusually quiet. There was no soul around, not even a single student running late for their classes. Janitor had already done his round around the school, mopping the floor and sweeping dust bunnies under the lockers. Halls remained empty for most of the day, not unless a teacher had to rush to the building to file some important documents or to prepare materials for another school year.
While the other parts of school slumbered, the main hall brimmed with life. As usual, a great Ninja battle had left a great damage on the property, and this time, the repair team was tasked with fixing a considerably huge hole in the wall. But since the school year was ending, there wasn’t a need to do it immediately, so all of the heavy work was left for the vacation period.
As careful as they wanted to be, they unfortunately caused some small, additional “scratches”. Cement was splattered on few lockers, a bucket of paint rolled all over the floor, a new guy made some mistakes while reading the blueprints and connected water pipes into one big circle, and heavy machines were dragged across the most beautiful thing in the Norrisville highschool, a carp mosaic decorated by strange, yellow gem.
School itself didn’t have anything precious to guard, but the business responsible for the construction team and equipment demanded to hire someone to protect the expensive materials.
Tumblr media
It was a bright night and a full moon decorated the sky.
“It’s just you and me, buddy!” A night guard shook his flashlight and locked the back door. He also pinned a card with “Jeremy” written on it.  “Maybe they don’t pay much but after tonight we’ll be able to afford a brand new keyboard!”
He kept talking with his trusty flashlight as he walked down the hallway. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, he made sure to bang on every locker to check for hidden intruders, but he found nothing. Maybe it was for the better, even if it meant the rest of the night being extremely boring.
The sound of his own footsteps was creeping him out. He wished he could at least turn on the big lights and get rid of the uncomfortable darkness, but due to safety and financial reasons, power was cut off for the night.
“Ughhh! This stinks!” He moved his light around him.”I know I’ve said that I’m over my fear of the dark but… Jeez… I will go insane before this shift ends.”
Jeremy glanced at his flashlight again.
“I heard that this school has a glass ceiling” He shook it and made a squeaky voice. “It’s in the main hall! And you know what else is in there? Equipment we have to keep an eye on! How about we just go in there and enjoy our shift under the bright moonlight?”
“Oh buddy!” He smiled. “You always have the best ideas!”
Thanks to the gentle rays of the moon, the Main lobby looked enchanted, despite it being a construction site.  Heavy machines and bags of cement were covered by large blankets, and the hole in the wall was well secured. The whole room seemed very inviting, yet something felt weird. The giant mosaic of golden carp was beautiful, but bathed in moonlight it gave off an eerie energy. Jeremy agreed with his trusty flashlight that they should avoid getting closer to it.
After doing the necessary check up, he lied down on the floor and leaned against a pillar.
“Everything is where it’s supposed to be…Nothing was stolen… no intruders…” He yawned. “Darkness was terrifying but besides that…– Well I didn’t expect this job to be this boring”
His eyelids felt heavy.
“What if I just… take a quick nap…?” He looked around the room one last time.”If there’s no boss around then you can do what you want.”
After just a few minutes, he was drooling on the floor.
Tumblr media
“I’ve been stuck here for far too long…”
A husky voice echoed in his ears. Jeremy’s eyes were quick to open. He didn’t know what he was seeing, but one thing was sure, he wasn’t in the lobby anymore. The amber sky seemed to be stretching for miles. Whatever he was standing on didn’t feel right, on the one hand it was slippery like glass, but at the same time it felt sticky, like if it wanted to trap him.
Jeremy looked around, he wasn’t alone, but he couldn't locate the person he had just heard.
“I’m alone— All alone!” The voice cried loudly. “What’s the point of keeping me here anymore?! The Sorcerer is gone after all…”
A gigantic shadow of a bird flew just above Jeremy’s head.
“But it’s not about the sorcerer!” Huge bird landed and laughed to itself. “It’s because he hates me. Oh, he wants me here for all eternity!.. To hell with him!”
Demonic creature hit the floor with all its rage. This was enough to make Jeremy fall down and scream out of fear. As he was laying on the floor, slowly sticking more and more, he expected to wake up at any moment. He heard another hellish screech and sound of sharp talons getting closer very quickly.
Jeremy opened his eyes, hoping that he would see the familiar moonlight. But instead he was greeted by a pair of glowing, red eyes analyzing his every movement. The head of the creature was just a skull of a bird with a few blue markings that resembled a warpaint. The bird demon was smiling, sending chills down Jeremy’s spine.
“A visitor…” Its voice echoed through his head. “Tsch, not anyone I know…– How bothersome.”
“I.. I am… I…” Night guard was squeaking like a mouse.”I’m Jeremy! Just a simple guard!”
“I didn’t ask! And frankly I’m not interested in hearing about your pitiful life!” The demon screamed and threw Jeremy back. “I hate humans. You always think of yourself as heroes! Think that your lives are somehow more important than other beings!”
“I don’t consider myself a hero…” He tried to stand up. “I’m nothing compared to our town's savior, the Ninja!”
Creature went silent, and so did the boy. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest, everything felt so real that he started questioning if it really was a dream. Bird demon approached him in silence.
“Ah… so he’s a hero.” Its last word came out with a lot of bitterness. “Yes… Hm, yes, it was very heroic of him to slit my throat with his blade, disrespect my body by ripping away my feathers… and then trap my spirit here! Who you call a hero is nothing more than a filthy murderer.”
Jeremy stood confused.
“From what you’ve said… It sounds like… well… you don’t paint ninja in a good light” He tried pinching himself in order to escape this dream. “I don’t think he would have done all that without a good reason.”
Tumblr media
The black shadow of a bird turned into flames, and from them it reformed itself in a much different shape. No longer was it a monster looking down at him, but simply a man. His body was translucent and colored like a bright ember. He was wearing damaged samurai armor, wings dragged behind him like a cape, and in his hand he held a broken blade. His gaze was intense and drilling, but not as wild as in his bird form.
“Did I say something wrong!?” Jeremy was trembling. “I am terribly sorry! I… I know nothing about the ninja… but… I thought he’s an honorable guy!”
“I think this whole conversation started on a wrong note.” Warrior dropped his blade.”Don’t think I’ve changed my mind about humans— my hatred runs deep. But since you’re already here, I think you deserve to learn a few things about your hero.”
“Well… I don’t want to take your time!” He shook his head.”Maybe you can just— wake me up! And I won’t be bothering you anymore!”
The spirit tried his best to give a sincere looking smile.
“You’ll miss out on some valuable knowledge.” He shrugged. “You know, in the past people would do anything to have such a conversation.”
Night guard took a deep breath.
“Then if I may ask… who are you?”
“I’m glad you asked.” His chuckle sounded a bit forced.”People used to call me a Tengu— a bird spirit. I was the greatest swordsman in the land, and a noble one as well. I never declined a duel, not even to a human. I always fought with honor.”
“Why are you here then?”
“Because of the ninja, of course!” Tengu was making circles around the scared boy. “You see, one day he challenged me to a duel. He was confident about his powers, but confidence alone isn’t enough to win. I defeated him and sent him on his way.”
“But…”
“Shhh” He put his finger up.”Some time had passed and I was sure I wouldn’t see him again. Oh but I was wrong— He was furious that I'd managed to defeat him! He came to claim his victory and he was ready to do so at any price!”
“If you’ve beaten him once— then how come you didn’t manage to win again?” Concentrating on Tengu’s story made him stop shaking.
“This time he had a friend.” He clenched his fist. “I don’t know what he had said to that goddess to make her think I was the enemy… But he was successful…He challenged me to an uneven battle. I couldn’t win against someone backed up by a heavenly power…”
Tengu gasped theatrically.
“They imprisoned me here.” He spread his arms.”In a stone they’d called “Eye of Eternities”!”
Jeremy scratched his head.
“This is confusing…” He was trying to analyze the story. “I’m having a hard time believing all this— It was hard for me to believe in ninja… and you’re spitting nonsense about spirits and gods.”
“You humans used to be more spiritual back then.” Tengu frowned. “You may want to argue with me about your beliefs, but you must believe me that it’s all real.”
“First of all, this is a dream!” Jeremy spouted. “This is just a figment of my imagination!”
“Wrong.” Tengu moved his hand towards the orange sky and after a moment it became clear like a window. “There you are. Lying unconscious on the school floor.”
“But— how— this is impossible!”
“Oh well— If you knew anything about spirits, then you’d know that you should be very careful about what you do during the full moon.” Tengu shook his head in disapproval. “For you, it might seem like a dream, but for me, it’s a very real visit.”
The young night guard wandered lost in his thoughts. Nothing made sense. Things he considered to be just fairy tales were real this whole time.
“Why didn’t you just attack me?” Jeremy felt like he should have asked this question earlier.
“If I’ve attacked you, you’d simply wake up…None of us would have gotten anything out of this meeting.”
Even though the mind of a Tengu was broken after centuries of imprisonment, he knew he should always take the opportunity when it’s there. It’s not everyday that he has a chance to speak with someone. Boy was naive, he noticed it right away. Maybe if he plays his cards right, he’ll be able to make this night interesting.
“Tell me, Jimmy…”
“It’s Jeremy, actually.” He said quietly.
“Whatever…” Tengu said under his nose.”Do you like helping others?”
“Oh I…— I… sure! Who doesn’t?” Jeremy giggled. “I’ve had many bullies during middle school and high school, but no one was kind enough to give me a helping hand…So now I help others in need!”
“Truly amazing…” He ran his hand across his face. “Would you like to help me then?”
Boy stood shocked.
“Me? Help you? But…—“
“You’ve said you help those in need, am I right?”
“Jeez… yes…—“ He tried looking for an excuse. “Well… From what you’ve said… it seems there’s no reason for you to be here… But how am I supposed to help!? I’m just human! And I didn’t even have my 20th birthday yet!”
“Don’t panic and listen.” Tengu grabbed him by his shoulder. “I can’t free myself from the inside, this prison can be open only from the outside.”
“Didn’t you say that this stone was made by a god?” Jeremy was sweating nervously. “Isn’t it like… crazy powerful?”
Tangu looked up.
“Maybe at the beginning, yes” He chuckled. “But nothing is truly eternal. This stone went through a lot and it was even cracked on multiple occasions. I can feel how weak it has become. I don’t think Ninja is needed for the job anymore.”
He smiled mischievously.
“A brute force might be just enough to shatter this prison.”
“You want me to crack the stone?” Jeremy panicked. “But that would be a destruction of property! I’d be punished for it! Oh man— I don’t have money for such a fine.”
“No one will know about it!” He screamed enthusiastically, trying to earn the boy's trust. “After you get me out I will simply fix it! I promise!”
Jeremy looked at Tengu with mixed emotions.
“All you need is a hammer, or other tool!” Tengu smiled. “It just so happens that the equipment is right there!”
“And what will you do once you get out?”
Spirit turned around, hiding his face from the boy.
“I’ll return home.” He exclaimed. “I miss my mountain…Maybe I’ll even say hi to old friends.”
He felt conflicted. Tengu’s story felt genuine, but despite his reassuring words, he still felt freaked out by the spirit.
There were several outcomes of this encounter, and he preferred not to know how it would end if he said “no” to him.
“I’ll try my best…” There wasn’t much confidence in Jeremy’s voice. “Just…– How do I wake up?”
Spirit of the warrior smiled and came closer to the boy.
“Don’t worry. I’ll help you.” Smile disappeared from his face, and he lowered his voice. “I’m counting on you…– Don’t fail me.”
His last words sounded like a threat. But before Jermey was able to  say anything, he felt a powerful punch hit his stomach. He hasn't experienced such pain before. His eyes faded to black.
Tumblr media
He was back.
Jeremy jumped up from the floor. He was sweating and breathing quickly, he could feel his heart pounding his chest, like if it was about to break free from the ribs of his body. He tried to calm down but what he just experienced was simply too much. He was scared for his life.
He grabbed his trusty flashlight.
“I’m so glad to see you again!” He screamed. “I’ve had the weirdest dream of my life! There was this giant bird, and then shoosh! He changed into a samurai, and he told me…”
Jeremy turned his head towards the mosaic. The stone was glowing like a warning sign, it was bright enough to light up the whole hall. It was calling him.
“...He told me to break the stone…” He put down his light. “I’m sorry… I think you should just wait here…Close your eyes while we’re at it…”
He took a deep breath and walked towards boxes of equipment. He didn’t want to do this, but what will happen to him if he decides to flee now? Will he be cursed forever? Will his family die? The thought of spirits, or worse, demons, haunting him for the rest of his life was much worse than paying a few bucks for destroying one thing on the property.
A hammer laid heavy in his hand.
As he was getting closer to the stone, he felt as if the golden carp was judging his every action. It looked angry in the bright moonlight, and the glow of the amber prison made its scales look alive.
Stress was making him gasp for air. He knelt down and lifted his hammer high, ready to strike the stone.
His whole body was shaking.
“Please… let this be over with.” He closed his eyes and struck the stone.
His first hit was met with a lot of resilience, but it didn’t make him stop. On each next hit he was striking it harder and harder, and with each one he could feel the surface cracking.
The light coming from the stone was getting dangerously intense, and after dealing another blow, he was violently thrown across the hall by a strange and powerful force.
Tiny bits of amber scattered across the floor, and the hammer hit the ground with a loud bang. Jeremy tried to pick himself up, but his body was hurting from the fall.
And then he heard it, a terrifying screech.

(The Bad Batch) Tech x Reader: Checkup
(Author's Note: HAPPY TECH TUESDAY! It feels awesome to celebrate another Tech Tuesday with Season 2 actively being released!!! I've missed ya, Bad Batchers.
I always get asmr vibes when I visit the eye doctor, sooooo yeahhh this is kind of based on that. Sitting here wishing Tech was my eye doctor now lol).
Word Count: 989
You swiveled around to peer over your shoulder from the cockpit of the ship.  Echo occupied the pilot’s chair beside you, leaning back casually while you fidgeted in your own seat.
The sight of stars and planets zooming by in beautiful streaks of light while the Havoc Marauder flew in hyperspace would normally be a peaceful thing to observe, but currently, you were a little preoccupied.  It was checkup day, which you both dreaded and waited for in anticipation.
In between making repairs and researching, Tech found time periodically to evaluate the squad’s health.  It wasn’t unheard of for some members of the team to play hero and dismiss injuries from time to time.  Checkups were Tech’s way of making sure that everyone was receiving the treatment that they needed- no ifs ands or buts.
Echo had finished his turn a little while ago and seemed completely at ease in his seat, though one glance in your direction made him realize that you were not.
“It’ll be over before you know it,” he offered, mistaking your jitters for discomfort at the checkup itself.  He was trying to reassure you, but you could see the confusion in his brown eyes.  After all, you’d been through many evaluations before with no issue, and it wasn’t like it involved needles or anything that should be a cause for worry.
“Yeah, I know,” you replied.  “I’ve just got some stuff on my mind.”  You smiled in hopes that he would realize you were fine and drop the subject.
“Anything you want to talk about?”  Dear, dear Echo.  So considerate.
“Not really, but thank you.”
He eyed you for a moment longer, pausing long enough for you to say something if you did change your mind, but when you said nothing more, he simply nodded and turned his attention back to the dash.
It wasn’t the checkup that made you nervous.
It was the medic who would be administering it.
Heavy footsteps on the ship’s grated floor nearly made you tremble.  Your heart picked up speed at the sight of Wrecker poking his head up front to let you know his eval was done.
“Tech’s ready for ya.”  He jabbed a thumb over his shoulder in the direction where Tech was set up.
“Okay.  Thanks, Wrecker.”
You decided it was best to just get it over with.  Sucking in a breath, you rose from your chair and marched down the hall of the Marauder.  There Tech was with his medic equipment out, tapping away at a datapad.  Your heartbeat kicked it into high gear as his beautiful brown eyes met your gaze at the sound of your approach.
“Ah, ________.  Have a seat.”
You sat down on top of the crate and observed him.  The low light of the hallway highlighted his chiseled features.
“It’ll just be the usual,” Tech rattled off, typing another bit of information into his datapad before setting it down.  “I’ll check your pulse, temperature, and vision on top of confirming that you have no significant injuries.”
You exhaled quietly.  “Okay.”
“Have you experienced any pain as of late?  Anything unusual?”  He stepped forward, entering your space.  You knew it was coming, but you felt no more prepared to have him so close.
You wanted to shake the thought away.  He was your teammate doing a professional favor by evaluating your state of health.  It felt wrong to enjoy the brief contact.
“No, nothing like that,” you replied, clearing your throat.
“Good.  Glad to hear it.”  His eyes did a quick scan over your form in a silent check.  He reached for your hand, and despite his professional demeanor, his hold on your wrist was gentle, careful- like he was holding glass.  With his other hand, he began to take your pulse, eyes flickering to the side.  You released another shaky breath, hating how absolutely loud it sounded to you in the quiet.
“Hm.” He made the sound as if he noted something internally, but he didn’t voice it aloud.  Instead, he let go of your hand and grabbed the temp scanner off his tray and aimed it at your forehead.  He glanced at the screen.  “Temperature is normal.”
“Oh, good.”  You never knew what to say during these things.  A shudder ran down your spine as he picked up a small flashlight and switched it on.
“Look straight ahead, please,” he instructed, and you did so.  Goosebumps bloomed along your skin as the light shone in front of your eyes to check them.  “Now, look left.  Right.”  it was very difficult not to meet his gaze so close to yours, but you managed.  “Now, look up.”  You did so, but he made a tiny dissatisfied sound under his breath.  Tech leaned closer, reaching a hand up to gently tilt your chin down so that you’d look up with only your eyes.
He paused again, his own hand lingering.  You were glad that he was done taking your pulse because your heart was racing.
Finally, Tech seemed to snap out of it, clearing his throat and pulling away while switching off the flashlight.  “Everything seems to be in order.”
“Great.  Thank you, Tech.  I appreciate it.”
“Hm.”
You watched his expression curiously.  “What?”
“You are the only one that says ‘thank you’ for these.”
You tilted your head.  “Really?”
“I suppose the others see me as poking and prodding unnecessarily.  Especially Wrecker.”
You laughed at your other teammate’s history of protests and attempts to delay his own treatment, though simultaneously you felt your heart soften for Tech.  “Well, you’re looking out for us, and it’s appreciated.”
He started packing up his equipment since you were the last of the checkups.  “Thank you.  Your appreciation is…appreciated.”  He looked over at you once more, offering a brief, kind smile.
You chuckled and gave a little wave, returning to the front of the Marauder.  When you sat down, you were mentally screaming at the adorable interaction.

I wish you would write a fic where...
Warframe meets Among Us
An interesting concept, hmm...
--------------------------
They were just a small merchant vessel. Making their way across the Solar Rails, peddling wares from one settlement to the next among the stars, desperately trying to scrape by enough credits just to keep their ship in one piece and their supplies stocked comfortably.
Random minor systems going wrong was nothing new. Shit, it was even joked about amongst the crew. The ship was old and she had certainly seen better years in her lifetime. They made sure all maintenance of essential systems was kept on top of - Nobody wanted to lose life support in the middle of space, after all - but if the lights in one section of the ship went out? Well, who gave a damn, they all had torches anyway.
Such simple failures were the norm that at first nobody took notice of them.
"Lighting on Deck B2 is out again." A tired crewman told the Systems Engineer.
She heaved a sigh, turning in her seat on the bridge. "Send Seph to fix it, and tell him to do a proper damned job this time."
The crewman shook his head. "Seph never turned up for his duty shift and nobody can contact him."
That was a bigger cause for alarm. The ship was already understaffed, several of the crew had taken ill and needed to be left behind at their last stop, dumping them into the care of local, better equipped medical facilities while the remaining members loaded up with cargo.
She turned to the Captain, and the old man didn't even wait for her to ask. "Go get it sorted." He ordered.
------
A figure in the guise of a crewman's uniform stalked towards the belly of the ship. It was looking, sniffing, seeking something, easing it's way unheard and unseen through the hidden ducts and shafts of the ship.
Eventually though, it had to drop out from those. In an empty hall, it reformed itself into the shape of a man, filling itself out into the suit it wore and letting the uncomfortable garb reseal itself, perfectly obscuring the true nature of what was lurking beneath.
It paused, re-orienting it's senses for a moment, repositioning itself, before walking towards the heart of what powered the vessel.
It's goal was guarded by a single lone, exhausted human. The click-clack of it's heavy boots across the metal alerted the human to it's presence.
"Seph, your duty shift started three hours ago." There was a frustrastion and exhaustion in the woman's voice when she spoke.
It didn't answer. The human was in it's way, it couldn't complete it's objective when she was here... But she was alone. It would be easy to make her disappear, just as it had made Seph disappear. Better yet, the human was making it easier as she got up and strolled towards it.
"Well, you can enjoy the dressing down you'll get from-" Her words as she passed it were cut off in a flash as she was impaled from behind by an impossibly sharp appendage, spearing her through the gut and killing her almost instantly. As fast as it had come out, the appendage receded inside of the suit, returning to it's disguise. It looked down at the human, wetting it's long, pointed tongue across it's sharp teeth.
Good.
------
"Is Ami not back yet?" The Captain settled back into his seat, some fresh water in hand. The Systems Engineer's seat had been vacant for the last few hours, and it was starting to become concerning.
"Not yet." The Nagivations Officer looked up from his console, tugging on the collar of his suit. "Does it feel warm in here to you as well?"
The Captain simply tapped a finger against his glass of water, earning a grunt of annoyance. "I would ask Ami to take a look, but." He gestured to the empty seat. Though after a moment, he did get up and walk to the console, scratching his white-haired beard as he read through the messages appearing across it. Multiple more minor systems were having hiccups. "We're going to be stuck in the next dock for a while with repairs."
"Thankfully we're close." The Navigations Officer muttered.
"Do we have enough fuel to push it faster?"
"We'll make it there and a little way beyond."
The Captain turned to his First Officer. "Increasing engine speed." She declared, since it was clear what the man was about to ask. He nodded, returning to his seat.
------
The sound of the engines thrumming up with more power made the creature feel something akin to happy. It's schedule was being expidited. Things were coming together as planned, though sooner than expected. But that wasn't a problem. Things were still in alignment and, if it needed, it could cause delays.
Playing with minor malfunctions was fun, but it could do much more than that. And it had a purpose here.
The beating heart of the ship, the reactors powering her through the vastness of space. It stood on the walkway between them, breathing in deeply.
Soon. Soon.
It jumped from the walkway, landing on the side of one and twisting inhumanly so that it could climb, claws and other appendages tearing through the suit to give it grip, reaching the point where all four converged. There, it nested, breathing out deeply and letting it feel itself spreading outwards across the many pipes and wires.
------
Alarms blared. Cascading multiple systems failure hit the deck, the ship rocking as explosions sounded across her hull and fires raged, suppression systems unable to stop them. Their routes to life capsules had long since been cut off. The Communications Officer was hard at work, sending out SOS in the hopes someone, anyone would save them. The Navigations Officer had his plate full with just trying to keep the ship moving.
"What in the name of Sol is happening?" The First Officer exclaimed, trying her damndest to resolve the errors as they were appearing, struggling to keep on top of the workload.
The Captain scanned his eyes across everything that was malfunctioning, things he knew to have been repaired and in full working order. He took of his hat, wiping his brow that was thick with sweat using a cloth from his pocket.
"We've been sabotaged." He stated calmly, making peace with reality. A somber silence filled the deck.
------
The creature fed from the reactors, corrupting and consuming the vessel. The fires and explosions would kill the humans if they didn't choke out of life support first, but it was above such things, unharmed. Immune. Ready to convert the ship for it's own uses. Small, unnoticed, it would be perfect.
It had come here with purpose. It smiled.
Mission Complete.

Megumi x bimbo!Reader
Info: jujutsu kaisen, bisexual themes for reader, bimbo! reader, party/ alcohol use, multipart fic, Written with black readers in mind
A/N: HVAC repairman megumi(itadori and nobara), interior decorator reader, used their surnames and first name interchangeably, 18+ characters, not proofread (sorry lol)
Wrdcnt: 2,772
It had been weeks since Megumi had seen his friends. Work and life affairs had hit them all fairly quickly after trade school. He didn’t like to complain about the work cause it brought in better income than most people his age had. He fondly remembered his time in apprenticeship with his friends that allowed him to work and hang out with his friends everyday, and he was looking forward to seeing them again.
He had just finished repairs on the final heating system for the day and was heading back to the agency to drop off his equipment and start his vacation for a whole week. He couldn’t say it would be peaceful knowing Nobara and Itadori but it would be entertaining to say the least. He went home and gathered his things, checking one last time to make sure they had given him the correct meeting information and address.
He found himself driving into the city to meet up with them at a bar and hotel. He arrived early. It figures the other two would be late, still no sense of time management even as adults. He checked the group in at the hotel and placed his stuff down in the suit and headed back to the bar to wait for his friends and get a much needed drink.
After about half an hour of him nursing a beer he heard some laughter from outside the door. He perked up noticing it was his friends and someone else…
“Hey Megs.” Itadori spotted him first.
He signaled a greeting to him and the rest followed to stand by him.
“Hope you weren’t waiting too long.” Itadori said somewhat sympathetic about his tardiness.
“You check into the rooms?" Kugisaki asked.
“Yeah, here's the keys.” He handed his friends a key then looked at you.
“Oh yeah Meg this is (Y/N). She’s an interior designer, we bump into her all the time on the job so we invited her.” Yuji introduced you.
“Hi!” You beamed at him. You were wearing a long fuzzy baby blue sweater to shield from the night air and underneath a white mini dress.
He handed you your key, seeming fairly unimpressed with Itadori’s choosen guest.
“Alright let's head up.” Nobara urged happily. her shoulders slumped from carrying her bags.
While yours were wrapped around both you and Itadori. Megumi paid his tab and led them to the suit.
“Packed heavy?” Megumi said to Yuji on the way up, seeing him struggle with all the luggage.
“It’s mine.” You peeped. “I couldn’t decide what I wanted to wear each day so I packed a bit of everything. And I needed room for the shopping I wanted to bring back home. These ones are empty.” You held up the bags tied around you.
Megumi hummed a response as you all reached the room. There were two bedrooms and a living space in the suit and it overlooked the nightlife of the city. You rushed to the window dropping your bags at the door. You smushed your face right up against the glass.
“Can we see the party from here?” You asked, referring to your first stop of the vacation. A rooftop party.
“No it’s in the opposite direction.” Nobara pushed your bags out of the way to get deeper into the room.
She was sure you hadn't heard her as you spaced out looking at the millions of lights from buildings around the city. She shook her head and proceeded to place her bags in your shared room.
Megumi was growing more unsure by the minute about how much he would enjoy his vacation.
"Hey Itadori.” He whispered from the other room and signaled him to come over so they could have a more private conversation. “Why did you invite this girl?”
“Ah, well, she’s new to the business and I’ve been helping her get more accustomed to work life and balance. I thought it would be cool to invite her, she can meet more people in the industry too.”
“How did she even get a job?!” He whispered a scream.
“Well she's super sweet.” Yuji shrugged. He was happy to have you on the trip as you always kept the mood up when he worked with you, it was something he believed would be helpful for the trip.
Megumi was irritated “She’s also a complete-”
“Yuji!” You exclaimed now digging into your discarded luggage to look for an outfit, “Look at my new undies! They’re perfect” You held up a regular pair of bubble gum pink panties for him and Megumi to catch a glimpse at. Nobara peeked her head out of her room and laughed at your airheadedness.
“That's so cool.” Yuji indulged you.
You went on to speak about how you bought a whole pack of different colored underwear just to get this pair. Yuji listened in amusement and Megumi looked on wondering how a grown woman could act so thoughtlessly.
After settling down a bit you all decided to get ready for the party Nobara had received an invitation to. It was from Maki, an upperclassman of theirs, Nobara was the only one of the trip to stay in consistent contact with her. They had planned their vacation around it as they had been promised a night that would require recovery.
In yours and Kugisaki's shared room you held up two pink dresses that looked almost exactly the same, trying to decide which one would be better.
“I don't even get why you're changing the white dress, it's cute.” Kugisaki said seeing your “dilemma”.
“I’ve been wearing it for 6 hours now, I have to change.” You whined and rummaged through your suitcase more.
You dug up another dress and eyed Nobara curiously. Nobara was busy in the mirror applying mascara. “I think you should wear this dress.” You said holding out one of your many too-short-to-walk dresses. It was a dark purple with a v cut. “Your boobs would look great.” You waved the dress teasingly.
“Can I even squeeze into something that small.” she watched the dress through the mirror
“I do this all the time…um actually I don’t think I’ve worn this one before. Stretch it out for me will ya?” You steered Kugisaki away from the mirror and towards the bathroom to change.
You finally decided on a pink dress(they looked the same but whatever) and started putting on jewelry when Nobara walked out of the bathroom in your dress.
“I could kiss you.” You gasped. “Do you want shoes too?” You asked, you were excited to dress her up like a doll.
“No, I can't walk on stilts yet.” She laughed and pulled out her own regular high heels for the night.
You on the other hand went for your tallest pair of white heels. The two of you walked out to the living space to see Megumi waiting, as usual.
“Where’s Itadori?’ Nobara asked
“Doing his hair.” Megumi groaned and twiddled on his phone until you and Nobara got up to go and help Yuji get himself in order.
With your help he was finally straightened out and the group took off to go to the birthday party of the owner of the biggest home repair company in the country..
The party was on a hotel rooftop a few blocks away so the group decided to walk there. When you all arrived Megumi led you all through the hotel per Maki’s directions. When you all stepped out of the elevator and onto the roof the party had already started. Many people were dancing along to the blasting music and others were drunkenly flopping in the rooftop pool. Itadori, Megumi and Kugisaki recognized many of the party goers as people who worked in their industry from seeing them in training or on the job. It was surprising to see them all cut loose after, presumably, coming from a full day’s work.
‘Hey you all.” Maki approached your group slurring her speech a bit. She was clearly a couple drinks in.
“Hey Maki.” Megumi said flatly. Maki stumbled a bit, catching herself on his shoulder.
“Well what're you standing here for, go fucking party.” She slapped Megumi’s shoulder. She went around greeting each person in the group.
“You didn’t tell me your friend is a Zenin.” You gasped seeing Maki talk to the boys. The zenin’s had all but run the home improvement game in the country. You had been looking for a way to join their agency but from what you could tell it was mainly family and friends only.
“How do you think we get the good clients? Megumi is her cousin too.” Kugisaki whispered to you before turning to chat with Maki. The two went on for a while with you at the side. Maki even noted Nobara’s “super hot” dress before making her way to you.
“Maki, that's my friend (Y/N). She’s an interior designer.” Itadori called before splitting off to go talk to other friends he recognized.
“Interior hm?” Maki said walking close enough that she could look down at you. She was still very drunk and pulled your face up by the chin, squinting her eyes to make sure she could properly see your features. She hummed in approval, “you drink?”
You nodded your head looking up at her with your big doe eyes. Maki grinned and pushed you alongside her, hand firmly placed on your ass.
“Well that’s one way to get a job.” Kugisaki joked to Mugumi before walking deeper into the party herself.
She left Megumi standing there annoyed, having disapproved of what he foresaw occuring at the party. He watched as you hung off of Maki while she poured you a drink and pulled you over to the edge of the pool. She introduced you to many of the people who worked with her family. You enjoyed being shown off by her to all of her well known associates and even managed to get some connections to clients looking for decorators. Megumi couldn't quite understand why he kept his eye on you throughout the whole party. While talking with a work colleague he got a bit caught up in the conversation and lost you for a few moments. When it had passed he went pushing through the crowd looking for you.
He caught a glimpse of your pink dress, still on Maki's lap she was holding a drink to your lips. After you had downed enough for her she kissed you. He was on his way to pluck you from her before you drank too much but was cut off by Yuji and Kugisaki barreling towards him.
"Megs we gotta go" Kugisaki caught his arm and started pulling him out.
"What about your friend?" Megumi said as he was dragged toward the elevator before he noticed Yuji's running over with you hanging over his shoulder absolutely wasted.
Once the four of you were safely tucked in the elevator Yuji and Kugisaki broke down in a fit of laughter. They sounded like hyenas and he knew they'd come something he'd have to answer for.
"He just fell right over *gasp* I don't even" Yuji's speech was disturbed by his fits of laughter. You made a incoherent weeee sound in response only sending the two of them more.
Kugisaki was kneeling on the elevator floor begging him to not talk or she'd wet herself. Megumi stood there dumbfounded waiting for the idiots to collect themselves. When the elevator came to the ground floor and you all stepped off he dared to ask.
"What the hell happened?" He asked fearing the response he would get.
"Yuji's pushed Todo off the roof!" Kugisaki spoke, flying her arms for dramatic effect as she recounted the two having a passionate (only word that did them justice) drinking game, in which the loser would be hoisted and thrown in the pool.
Unfortunately Yuji lost his balance while holding him and he fell onto a balcony one story below. He was fine but had to wake the people whose apartment he landed in to get back out. The two decided to split before he made his way back to the party, leading to their great escape from the party.
Megumi wasn't sure what he was expecting but it certainly wasn't the explanation he was given. But all his friends were drunk (truthfully even he was too) and any reprimand he gave them would be forgotten by morning. He focused his efforts on shepherding the drunk herd back to the hotel room and safely to bed.
Yuji ended up carrying you to his and Megumi's room and passing out on the bed. You were upside down and Yuji slept face first on a pillow but at least the place was quiet. He turned out the lights and went to bed feeling a mild headache already coming on.
At some point in the night he was awoken by someone getting into his bed and pressing their head on him but he was too out of it to even consider doing anything else but going back to sleep. The morning leaked its way through the curtain of the room and onto Megumi's face, making him groan. He began to move to close the curtains but was held down by a soft body resting on top of him. He looked down to see you in your pink dress, now ruffled from the night out and riding up your bum.
"Hey" Megumi spoke from the back of his throat in a deep baritone.
He shook progressively harder until you finally came to. You whined from being woken up and feeling completely run down. You peeked up to see who had woken you.
"Hi Megumi…how come you're in my bed?" Your sleepy eyes peaked around the bedroom.
"You're in my bed, why?" He asked. You were confused as you could've sworn after leaving Yuji's bed and going to the bathroom you went to your own bed last night.
You simply shrugged your shoulders at the air headed mistake and laid your head back on Megumi's chest.
"Hey go to your own bed." He said a bit annoyed, still low in volume.
"Lemme sleep some more Megumi."You snuggled into his chest and pulled more of the covers onto you both.
Megumi almost threw you off the bed but couldn't muster the power and laid there till Yuji started to stir from the sun flooding the room and hour later.
"PARTY!" He screamed as he sat up from his bed.
Yuji was never one to get a hangover. But his loud noise caused Megumi to wince and you to once again wake up unhappily. You flung a pillow at Yuji and he took notice of you and Megumi "cuddled" in his bed.
"How'd you get over there?" Yuji asked, amused by his friend's unhappy faces.
"She thought it was her bed when she got up."Megumi looked down at you, still curled on his chest.
Yuji laughed and got up to get Kugisaki so you all could decide on breakfast. Most likely it would be a delivery as ¾ of the group were not mobile. You sat up on Megumi straddling his waist.
"Thanks for letting me sleep for a bit." You rubbed your eyes and yawned.
"You're just too heavy to move." He said bluntly.
"hmph you're mean" You shoved his shoulders a bit at what he said and moved off of him to the other side of the bed.
Yuji walked in holding Kugisaki bridal style. Her eyes were sunken and dark showing her exhaustion.
"Alright, what are we feeling for breakfast?" Yuji plopped her down gracelessly on Megumi's bed.
"What are you-" Megumi was quickly pushed to the side of his bed.
"Scooch over." Yuji followed right behind Kugisaki on the bed pushing you close to Megumi once again.
Yuji scrolled on his phone listening to food requests from his friends. You and Kugisaki had wanted pancakes and eggs Yuji and Megumi went with bacon and hash brown. He ordered a breakfast cart to the room.
"Why are we all on my bed?" Megumi asked again only to be cut off again.
"Shh" Kugisaki weakly reached a finger up to silence him only making him more angry.
"We're gonna have a day. Eat breakfast, play video games once…she wakes up. And go out to see some sights later." Yuji said enthusiastically.
"I knew I'd regret this." Megumi rolled his eyes.
"Come on, I know you're having fun." Yuji elbowed him.
Megumi grumbled and let his eyes shut to wait for breakfast.

Engine Repair Instruction Full Guide
Engines are the heart of any vehicle, powering everything from your daily commute to long road trips. Knowing how to repair an engine can be a game-changer, whether you're an enthusiast who loves getting your hands dirty or someone looking to save money on mechanic bills. This guide will walk you through the entire process of engine repair, from diagnosing problems to reassembling your engine and ensuring it runs smoothly.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Basics of an Engine
Before diving into the repair process, it’s crucial to understand how an engine works. Most vehicles use an internal combustion engine, which combines fuel and air, ignites it, and transforms that explosion into mechanical energy.
Components of an Internal Combustion Engine
The main components include:
Cylinder Block: The engine's core where combustion occurs.
Cylinder Head: Houses the valves and spark plugs.
Pistons: Move up and down to create the force needed to turn the crankshaft.
Crankshaft: Converts the pistons' up-and-down movement into rotational motion.
Camshaft: Controls the opening and closing of the valves.
Valves: Regulate the flow of fuel and air into the engine and exhaust gases out.
How an Engine Works: A Simple Explanation
An engine works by pulling in a mixture of air and fuel, compressing it, igniting it with a spark (in gasoline engines), and then expelling the exhaust gases. This cycle—intake, compression, power, and exhaust—happens in each cylinder and repeats hundreds of times per minute.
Tools and Equipment Needed for Engine Repair
Tumblr media
Whether you're performing a basic repair or diving into more complex work, having the right tools is essential.
Essential Tools for Basic Repairs
Socket Set: For removing and tightening bolts.
Wrenches: Different sizes for various engine parts.
Screwdrivers: Flathead and Phillips for screws and clips.
Pliers: For handling wires and small parts.
Torque Wrench: Ensures bolts are tightened to the correct specifications.
Specialized Equipment for Advanced Engine Work
Engine Hoist: For removing the engine from the vehicle.
Cylinder Hone: Prepares cylinders for new piston rings.
Compression Tester: Checks the health of each cylinder.
OBD-II Scanner: Diagnoses engine codes and issues.
Safety Gear and Precautions
Gloves: Protect your hands from cuts and chemicals.
Safety Glasses: Shield your eyes from debris.
Work Boots: Offer protection against heavy parts or tools.
Diagnosing Engine Problems
Accurately diagnosing engine problems is the first step in any repair process. Understanding the symptoms can save time and prevent unnecessary work.
Common Symptoms of Engine Issues
Tumblr media
Check Engine Light: Indicates a problem detected by the car's computer.
Strange Noises: Knocking, tapping, or grinding sounds can signal internal damage.
Excessive Smoke: Blue smoke might mean burning oil, while white could suggest a coolant leak.
Loss of Power: Often linked to fuel or air delivery issues.
Step-by-Step Diagnostic Process
Listen and Observe: Note any unusual sounds, smells, or behaviors.
Check Engine Light Codes: Use an OBD-II scanner to retrieve error codes.
Perform Compression Test: Assesses the health of your engine’s cylinders.
Inspect Fluids: Look for contamination or leaks in oil, coolant, and other fluids.
Step-by-Step Guide to Reassembly
Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure that your workspace is clean, organized, and well-lit. Lay out all the parts and tools you'll need in the order of reassembly. Keep the engine manual handy for specific torque specs and sequences.
Install the Crankshaft: Place the crankshaft back into the engine block, ensuring it is seated correctly. Use assembly lube on the main bearings to prevent damage during the initial startup. Torque the main caps to the manufacturer's specifications.
Insert the Pistons: Install the pistons and connecting rods. Be sure to align the piston rings correctly and use a ring compressor to insert the pistons into the cylinder bore. Attach the connecting rods to the crankshaft and torque the rod bolts to spec.
Install the Camshaft and Timing Components: If your engine uses a timing chain or belt, install it according to the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears. This step is crucial for ensuring the engine's valves open and close at the correct times.
Attach the Cylinder Head: Place the cylinder head gasket on the engine block, followed by the cylinder head. Torque the head bolts in the correct sequence and to the proper specifications. This ensures a good seal and prevents head gasket failure.
Install Valves, Lifters, and Pushrods: If applicable, install the engine's valves, lifters, and pushrods. Make sure they are properly aligned and that the lifters are seated correctly in their bores.
Reassemble the Valve Train: Install the rocker arms and adjust the valve lash according to the engine manual. Proper valve lash is critical for engine performance and longevity.
Reattach External Components: Begin reattaching external components like the water pump, oil pump, timing cover, oil pan, and intake manifold. Replace any gaskets and seals during this process to prevent leaks.
Reconnect the Fuel and Ignition Systems: Reinstall the fuel injectors, spark plugs, and ignition wires. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly routed to avoid short circuits or malfunctions.
Final Checks: Before moving on, double-check all connections, bolts, and components. Make sure nothing is left loose or unconnected.
Applying Proper Torques and Specifications
Every engine has specific torque settings for each bolt. Over-tightening can strip threads or warp components, while under-tightening can lead to leaks or parts coming loose. Use a torque wrench and follow the manufacturer's specifications closely.
Double-Checking Work for Mistakes
Tumblr media
It's easy to miss a step or make a mistake during reassembly. Double-check your work:
Ensure all components are installed in the correct order.
Verify all bolts are torqued to spec.
Check for any leftover parts or tools in the engine bay.
Testing the Repaired Engine
With the engine reassembled, the next step is testing it to ensure everything is functioning properly.
Preparing for Initial Startup
Before starting the engine, perform a few preparatory checks:
Prime the oil system: This can be done by cranking the engine with the fuel system disabled until oil pressure is achieved.
Fill the engine with fresh oil and coolant.
Double-check all electrical connections and fuel lines.
Checking for Leaks and Unusual Noises
Tumblr media
Once you start the engine, pay close attention to any unusual noises or leaks:
Oil Leaks: Check around the oil pan, valve covers, and front and rear seals.
Coolant Leaks: Inspect the radiator, hoses, and water pump area.
Unusual Noises: Listen for knocking, tapping, or whining sounds, which could indicate an issue with the timing components or internal parts.
Fine-Tuning and Adjusting the Engine
After the initial startup, the engine may require some adjustments:
Timing Adjustments: Use a timing light to set the ignition timing.
Idle Speed: Adjust the idle speed according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Fuel Mixture: On carbureted engines, you may need to adjust the air-fuel mixture for optimal performance.
Common Engine Repair Mistakes to Avoid
Engine repair is complex, and mistakes can be costly. Here are some common errors to watch out for:
Misalignments and Incorrect Torques
Misaligned timing components can lead to poor engine performance or damage.
Incorrectly torqued bolts can cause leaks, parts failure, or engine damage.
Overlooking Small Parts and Connections
Small parts like washers, clips, or gaskets are easy to overlook but crucial for preventing leaks and ensuring proper function.
Electrical connections: Double-check that all sensors and connectors are properly seated.
Skipping Diagnostic Steps
Skipping steps in the diagnostic process can lead to unnecessary repairs or missed issues. Always perform thorough diagnostics before and after repairs.
Maintaining Your Engine After Repair
Proper maintenance is key to ensuring the longevity of your newly repaired engine.
Importance of Regular Maintenance
Regular maintenance, such as oil changes, air filter replacements, and coolant checks, is essential to keep your engine running smoothly and prevent future problems.
Tumblr media
Tips for Extending Engine Life
Use high-quality oil and filters.
Avoid hard driving until the engine is fully warmed up.
Regularly check and maintain fluid levels.

Tankiste during Vehicle Maintenance
This is an impression of a French tank crewman working on their vehicle during maintenance time. Any 'free time' the tank crews had was in the form of vehicle maintenance and ensuring that their vehicle was fully operational for the next fight. While the workshop section within a company was tasked with larger repairs, it was up to the crews to maintain their vehicle in a fit-to-fight state. For this task the crews were issued tank working overalls (modern terminology would call this a coverall) to be worn over the standard light blue uniform. These were either commandeered from the civilian realm or old regulation models, which would result in several different appearances of the same style garment. Some would be one piece like the one depicted here, while others were of a two piece style. Colors also varied, from white, to off-white, to tan, to cachou, and dark blue. After the war in 1919 it was codified that the dark blue variants were to become the regulation model because these would show the least amount of vehicle oil and other debris. This particular variant is in a cachou color and features a left breast pocket, Equipements Militaires buttons, and a standing collar. Two EM buttons on the front of the chest allowed for the placement of a rank tab, denoting the rank of Corporal. The civilian black beret would often be worn during maintenance, as well as the Ceinturon Modèle 1903 modifié 1914 without any gear looped on it. The patches of light blue wool on the coveralls are repair patches due to usage rips throughout the uniform.
The display photos show a Boîte à Munitions (Ammunition Box) which of course would carry the crew's ammunition supply. On the top of the box is five Cartouche de 8 mm Modèle 1886 à balle D for the Renault FT's 8 mm Hotchkiss Modèle 1914 Heavy Machine Gun as well as one Cartouche à Obus en fonte Modèle 1888 which was the most common 37 mm round for the Renault FT's Puteaux 37 SA Modèle 1918 cannon. In the background is a periscope painted in Gris Artillerie and while not issued to tank crews, this type of periscope was an incredibly common sight within the trenches. Beside the ammunition create is a brass Pyrene Fire Extinguisher. These models came standard in tanks out of the factory with every Renault FT equipped with one Pyrene Fire Extinguisher underneath the driver's seat.
The second display photo depicts a Renault FT section maneuver on a small target per doctrine scribed on a chalkboard slate. Many household items like these would be commandeered and pressed into service within the French Army. Behind this is a photograph of Renault FT during the 1919 Bastille Day Parade. This parade would be extensively photographed and many other pictures would feature these Renault FTs moving through the Arc de Triomphe and down the parade route. Further back is a fully intact post-war Renault FT souvenir inkwell. These were very popular inkwells that often made appearances on the more enthusiastic AS officer's desk. While these two items are post-war pieces, both provide a glimpse into how important the AS and the Renault FT was in bringing final victory to the French Army and shows some ways they were celebrated post-war. Finally, behind these pieces is a regulation pair of glasses with its matching case. Regulation glasses could be purchased by the soldiers in military bazaars along with other various small kit items tailored to soldiers.

Runaway Coward
Déjà vu is usually a funny thing, something that pokes and prods at us from a distance, trying to trick us into believing that something that hasn’t happened before has.
Unfortunately, déjà vu isn’t quite as kind to you.
This is part two! Check out part one here!
Maple Stories is a cute, picturesque bookstore that started off as something small and cozy, but has since grown out of its humble beginnings. Thankfully without losing its cozy vibes.
Rows and rows of tall shelving take up the majority of the space, with windowside chairs settled in pairs and beanbags all scattered in between. The loopy, handwritten signs meticulously and lovingly denote every genre displayed in every row, and bright, shiny stickers with the labelling “Staff Favourite!” stand out across the spines of books all throughout. Two glass doors opposite to each other lead to two wide, open rooms with long tables, one a dedicated space for kids’ activities and workshops, and the other filled with computers, typical classroom supplies and a printer for those hard at work.
It’s a space you’re well familiar with, and your love for the place is frankly the only reason you showed up to work today at all.
“Damn, you look like shit. Rough night?”
Well. Maybe not the only reason.
An arm slings heavily across your shoulder, and you allow yourself to sink sideways into the familiar hold with a listless, affirmative hum. You’d been doing your best not to seem dead on your feet this whole morning, but there’s no point now that your cover’s already been blown. Plus, you’ve never been able to lie to Ana.
“D’you want some tea?” She asks, then grunts when you put more weight into her side. It’s not nearly enough to unsteady her - she’s just being dramatic.
Still, a hand of hers reaches up to card through your hair, and you sigh comfortably. Her hand is rough, but the motions are soothing and it serves to firmly ground you. “Nah,” you manage to push out as your brain immediately turns to mush under the much-needed affection. Indulging yourself for a moment, you let your eyes slip shut. “I’ll be okay.” Equipped with your trusty water bottle, you’re all set to fight the faint, hazy headache nestled behind your forehead.
Ana isn’t convinced, you can tell, but there isn’t much she can contest you with unless she straight up sends you back home. And that’s not really an option for you right now. She knows it just as well as you do.
So, despite yourself, you gently peel off from your friend and flash her a smile. It’s a weak thing, you can just barely feel the corner of your lips pulling upwards, but it’s a genuine one all the same. Anything less (or anything more) would only stoke the flames of her concern. You don’t push your luck.
“Plus, it’s your turn to take care of the kids today, so that means I get to mainly do busywork. The most I’ll do is probably just have to answer a few questions or find a few books.” And what with it being the middle of the week, you don’t expect the place to get too filled up anyways.
For a moment, Ana is quiet, looking you over in an attempt to really judge the state you’re in, likely looking for any signs of you being worse for wear than you’re letting on. It wouldn’t be the first time (and it likely wouldn’t be the last time, either). You let her do as she pleases, feeling comfortable with her stoic but blatant show of care and the easily trackable nature of her sharp blue eyes. You follow the movement for the few seconds of silence that sit between you.
Eventually, she relents. You just had a hard night, one that still shakes you to your core to think about, but it’s thankfully the first of its kind since a while now. There’s a sore spot on your lip, a string of tension across your shoulders and a dull ache from your restless sleep, but there are no bags setting heavy on your face or a shakiness to your step. It’s not the worst day you’ve had by a long stretch. You’re delicate, but not in need of any repairs quite yet.
(Hopefully, if you distract yourself well enough and don’t go trying to look for what might’ve triggered the demons of your past to sneak back up on you, you won’t need to build yourself back up again at all.)
So, instead of pushing you any further, Ana dramatically groans. “Why do I have to be stuck with the gremlins anyways?” she grouses. “You know those little monsters respect me as far as they can throw me. Every time you tell them to settle down, they basically trip over themselves trying to please you. But me? Oh nooo, they’ll poke at each other or make jokes just to see who gets in trouble first.”
“And yet, they’ve never actually annoyed you, have they?” Taking the olive branch for what it’s worth, you don’t waste a beat in playfully calling her out. It’s less a question than it is a simple fact, and you both know it, so Ana doesn’t bother answering. Instead, she crosses her arms, frown pulling deeper, but for all she might huff and puff, you know she’s got a soft spot for the so-called ‘little monsters’ that pull at her pant legs, whining when it comes time for them to leave, and that stare starry-eyed at her spiky jewellery, later eagerly trying to convince their parents to get them something similar, much to their distaste.
There’s no defence Ana can give to prove you wrong, so she instead ruffles your hair, two notches below a noogie, and walks past you. “Yeah yeah. Go get your nametag on already. I don’t pay you to look pretty.”
You laugh freely, feeling the pit in your stomach lighten.
Yeah. You’re glad you came in today.
With that, the day finally feels like it begins, with patrons starting to filter in at a more reasonable time than 8 AM. You help an overwhelmed-looking university student with a computer issue - wincing sympathetically when you realise said ‘issue’ amounts to little else than the poor thing not realising the mouse wasn’t plugged in - and only just manage to finish changing the printer ink cartons before the tell-tale sound of today’s first-grade field trippers descend upon your best friend and boss. While the supervising teacher looks as embarrassed as always, you don’t share in his pity, and instead contentedly make your way to the back room to restock the display cases, leaving Ana to the ankle-biting wolves with a small smile on your face.
The familiarity is easy.
After that, it doesn’t take too long before your worries begin to drift. Maple Stories is relaxing, and the process of swapping out last week’s ‘Top Ten’ is muscle memory by now. You press new stickers onto the spine of each new winner, smooth through those belonging to two books still upholding their spots, and gently peel off the rest like they belong to old friends coming back from a long and arduous trip.
All the while, as you idly read through each synopsis, little details begin to surface in your mind. Traits, quotes, scenes, all of these come to you, inspired by the creative landscape all around you. It’s not the most riveting of work, but it’s yours and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
You remind yourself of this as the sound of hushed, childish laughter passes you by.
It isn’t until you hear your name be called from somewhere behind you that the illusion of peace is suddenly broken, shattered into pieces, and you nearly jump right out of your skin. But it isn’t the prospect of social interaction nor the unexpected disruption that makes ice wash through your veins.
No.
It’s the tone. It’s the voice. It’s the memories that have you bolting forward and away, heart suddenly jack rabbiting in your chest. Fear is on you in an instant, gripping you like a vice that never really left, and horror clouds you as every muscle in your body tenses because all of you knows you’ve messed up.
You moved. You were found, you made a sound and you didn’t stay. The worst part is that it’s all useless, too, because you don’t even get far. Your back finds a bookshelf with a rough and hardy ‘thump’, edges digging into your spine, but you don’t dare keep your back turned for too long because you know that would only make things worse.
Your legs burn with phantom pain, last night’s terrors coming back to you, and your hands clench at your sides as you look up to face your fate all while your mind screams ‘How? HOW?’ so loudly that you can't hear anything else. It’s so cloying you can’t even manage to make a sound despite every nerve in your body crying for help.
But when your eyes finally manage to refocus on what's in front of you, it’s not to the sight of claws reaching for your shirt or gangly metal fingers eager to wrap around your throat.
Instead, there’s a hand.
There’s a fleshy, human hand frozen midair, and it takes all your other thoughts screeching to a stop to realise that that hand is attached to an arm. And that arm is attached to a body.
A human body.
Standing before you is a tall stranger in bright clothes - human clothes - with a full head of dark, curly hair - human hair - looking both decidedly confused, concerned, and something else that your brain can’t quite decipher at this moment. But what you can tell, above all else, is that the being in front of you now is clearly, undeniably human. Warm brown eyes are wide as he stares, shock-still.
Oh god.
Through the still-racing rhythm of your heart, shame floods your system and you begin to internally berate yourself for something entirely different than you had been before, though your internal monologue stays mostly the same.
Stupid, stupid!
You jolt upright so suddenly that the man in front of you flinches, but you don’t give him time to speak, words pushing through your throat unbound.
“I am so, so sorry!” You ignore the way your voice cracks and the way the heat rushing to your face makes you want to bolt away into the bathroom. This isn’t something you can run away from. (This isn’t something you need to run away from.) “I just– I startle easily and I was distracted and– Ohh, I didn’t mean to react like that, I promise!” Your hands clasp together in front of your chest, forcefully willing them to still as you pray that you didn’t just ruin this stranger’s day. You can’t imagine how anybody would feel getting that sort of reaction.
“...”
Unfortunately, your nerves only seem to build as you’re met with silence, but you can’t really blame him. With how volatile of a reaction you just showed, it must be hard for him to even think how to respond. Luckily, you’re not thinking enough for the two of you.
“Did you– Did you need something? I know this place like the back of my hand, spooked or not! NOT- Not that I’m scared of you! I just meant… despite having just gotten startled. Everything’s… Everything’s still in here.” You’re babbling, and when you knock against the side of your head for what you hope is a funny show of emphasis, maybe you do so a little more roughly than needed, as if that’d help build your communicative competence back up.
Unluckily for you, it doesn’t work to literally knock some sense back into you.
Luckily, though, it works well enough to snap the person in front of you into speaking.
“O-Oh! Please don’t worry about that!” He exclaims, voice pitched and startled, high and loud, and so unnervingly familiar that a new flash of goosebumps pass through you. Foolishly, you’d hoped you just misheard him the first time, but no. He really does just… sound like that. Discomfort flows through you all over again.
If you flinch, you hope he doesn’t notice.
“I should be the one apologising for scaring you! That’s not nice of me at all, no no no!” He speaks all while rapidly shaking his hands in front of him, and it’s all you can do to pretend that his attempts to reassure you do anything remotely positive at all. Every sound he makes feels grating in your mind, but you do your best to will down the bottomless pit threatening to pull you under.
Everything is fine. Everything is safe. You’re riling yourself up for no reason.
You shake your head, hoping the movement isn’t as robotic as it feels. “No, you did nothing wrong. If anybody was rude, it was me for acting that way with a customer!”
“But it’s because of me that you acted that way at all! You even hurt yourself! Are you okay? You sounded like you hit yourself super, duper hard and that’s just no good at all!”
“I’m fine! I just–”
“What is going on here?”
Both you and the stranger in front of you jolt to attention as Ana’s authoritative tone cuts you right off. Your neck hurts with the speed at which you swivel to look at her, breath catching in your throat once more, and you hope you don’t look nearly as panicked as you feel as her name leaves you, breathless.
It’s a relief to see her - so relieving you might cry, in fact - but that relief is quickly squandered with the way she all but glares at the tall patron a few steps in front of you. You don’t know when he cut off some of the space between you two, but you don’t have the time to wonder about that before Ana is stomping right up to him like a woman on a mission.
“What are you doing to my employee?” she accusingly questions the poor soul you dragged into this mess. Ana might not be the tallest person around, near dwarfed in comparison to this stranger who stands a full foot above her, but only a fool would think her to be unintimidating. She’s confident and stronger than she seems, and that’s saying something considering how sturdy her arms already look. You have no doubt in your mind that if she wanted, she could absolutely snap the lanky man in front of you if she wanted to.
And it definitely looks like she wants to.
His hands rise in an almost desperate show of peace, but whatever words he was going to say devolve into a pitiful whine as Ana almost jabs a finger into his chest. Before she can continue her tirade, however, you rush to push yourself between them with a strangled ‘Wait!’
This has spiralled so far out of control at this point that you feel dizzy, but by god, you’d really like to avoid a lawsuit and a fight.
“This is all just a misunderstanding!” One of your own design, at that, but that’s not important right now. Ana’s gaze flicks up at the stranger behind you, unconvinced, but you do your best to attract her attention back to you. “I was lost in my thoughts and got all jumpy when he came to ask for help! He didn’t do anything wrong or say anything bad, I promise. This is all on me.”
Ana says your name at the same time as you hear an almost offended ‘Hey now!’ from behind you, but whatever words the unfortunate soul behind you was gonna say dies with another glare from your boss. You don’t need to look behind you to guess that he’s all but cowering behind your form at this point.
Still… Ana doesn’t not seem convinced, at least.
She sighs, deep and heavy, and it’s only due to the sound that you release a shaky breath of your own, one you didn’t know you were holding, and let your shoulders sag.
“You mean it?” she asks, still suspicious, still so caring. It’d make your heart swell on any other occasion. As of right now though, you’re too hyped up on adrenaline to really feel the full force of her attempts at reassurance.
You nod as decisively as you can in this scenario. “I mean it.” You feel unnerved, like daggers are being pointed at you from behind, but you know that it’s all in your head. The man behind you shouldn’t suffer for your actions.
Thankfully enough, that seems to be enough for Ana to stand down at last, and the remaining vestiges of her righteous fury melts away into subtle sheepishness. She’s not ashamed, not by any stretch of the meaning, but she believes you. And that means that she has to come to terms with the fact that she all but yelled at a completely innocent patron for no reason.
Shuffling for a moment, Ana looks to the stranger, you, and back before her hand settles at the back of her neck, rubbing at the skin there with a twisted expression. “Guess I overreacted then…” she mumbles. “Sorry about that.”
It’s not the most heartfelt of apologies, despite you knowing it’s a genuine one, and for a moment, you’re afraid it won’t be enough. Your worries don’t last for very long though.
“Apology accepted!” the man behind you chirps, almost too cheery for someone that basically got threatened in every way except the words themselves, but when you look over your shoulder at him, his smile is bright and wide and so unbelievably warm that it’s hard to think it could be anything but perfectly real. “You were just trying to protect a friend, right? That’s very noble of you! Let’s just say nobody was at fault for this little misunderstanding…”
He must feel you staring, because suddenly, he looks at you, catching you red-handed. You almost jump again - emphasis on almost - but the way he tilts his head, ever smiling, is only kind. “Hmm?”
It takes you a moment to realise he’s looking for agreement from you and, dumbly, all you can do is nod.
Distantly, you hear one of the kids call Ana’s name, sounding both impatient and worried, and she winces minutely. Of course. She must’ve left the kids when she heard something was going on. A new lump of embarrassment and shame rises, but you don’t have the time to address it before she’s on the move.
Ana holds one edge of the bookshelf, and looks back to both of you, thoughtful and decisive at the same time. She hums. “We’ll leave it at that, then… If you do decide to get something, though, we’ll throw in a discount on the house. Actions speak louder than words for me.”
Before either one of you can argue - not that you ever would - Ana leaves and suddenly, the two of you are alone again. It’s silent for a moment.
The urge to apologise again rises within you, but the high sigh of relief from behind you cuts you off before you can.
“Hoo-ee! Well, wasn’t that a kerfuffle?”
Turning, you see the man with a hand over his heart, but with that same ol’ smile still plastered on his face. It’s only then that you notice you’re still standing just a bit too close for comfort, and scramble just a little to give him more room.
(Or maybe that’s just the excuse you tell yourself.)
“Yeah...” You just barely manage to bite back another apology. “At least… At least everything got cleared up in the end.” You can be grateful for that, if nothing else. If the stranger’s enthusiastic nod is anything to go by, he agrees. His curls bounce with the motion. You try to focus on that more than anything else, even if it still manages to remind you of something else.
“Absoposilutely!” That makes you stop for a moment.
You wonder if he’s trying to make you smile on purpose. Because it really, really feels like it. Or maybe he really is just that goofy.
(Don’t think any further than that. Don’t you dare.)
“What’s your name, anyways?” you ask, not willing to let your thoughts run away with you again. That doesn’t stop you from immediately regretting your word choice - why’d you have to ask it like that? - but thankfully, the kind stranger’s smile doesn’t budge even an inch.
With a flourishing display of jazz hands, the stranger finally gives you a name to put to his face. “You can call me Elio!” he excitedly introduces, and you return the favour while pushing down the seed of relaxation that passes through you. What did you expect him to say?
With introductions finally out of the way, Elio is more than happy to jump right into questions, asking about this book and that book, apparently having a little list in mind. The change of pace is enough to throw you off, but you adapt as best as you can. You lead him to where his newest little treasures lie, relishing in the smile you receive for a job well-done before moving on to the next. And then, when you finish getting him all of those books - stacked in a neat pile in the plastic basket you supplied him - he surprises you by asking you about your favourites.
He surprises you even more with how intently he listens to you describe some of your favourite books.
Elio isn’t the type to stand still for very long, you learn within mere minutes of his company, but he is rapt with attention whenever you speak. It makes it much too easy for you to blabber on for longer than expected, both due to the excitement of getting to promote your favourite stories and the underlying itch to distract yourself. His eyes aren’t particularly intense, per say, but you feel a touch unsteady all the same.
Your attempts at distraction work well enough for you to genuinely enjoy the time spent with him, but it doesn’t manage to make the approach to the cash register feel any less welcomed.
Elio, however, doesn’t seem to share the same opinion.
“But, but! I wanted to talk with you longer!” he whines, and he’s too endearingly disappointed for you to not feel some degree of bad. He’s pulling at your heart strings without knowing.
Your smile quirks slightly as you round your way around to the cash register, only still a touch stiff. “I mean… you could always come back, you know. The library is free of charge, after all.” Though you can’t exactly promise you’ll always be free to socialise… You don’t say that though, if only because you’re sure his frowny face might make you give a promise you can’t keep.
Still, Elio doesn’t seem fully convinced. He fiddles with his fingers, big brown eyes aimed downwards as you begin to scan his items. “I guess…”
You’re astounded as to how someone so tall can simultaneously look so small. You know you’ve done nothing wrong, and yet you still feel like you accidentally stepped on a puppy’s tail. It’s not lost on you that this isn’t the first time you come across a sentiment like this, but you push that thought aside because it’s different this time.
You’re startled out of your thoughts when, suddenly, Elio perks up. Before you can even ask what’s wrong - is something wrong? - his hand shoots quick as lightning to grab the last book you have yet to scan. Precisely, one of your favourite books that Elio had taken a shine to.
Your brows furrow, confusion mounting, but once again, you’re too slow.
“I don’t wanna buy this one!” he announces, but it’s almost a yell. You wince at the volume and he immediately recedes in on himself as another patron turns to him with a glower. He stage-whispers an apology their way, one they hardly seem to accept, before he turns back to you. “I… I don’t wanna buy this one,” he repeats, quieter this time. A bit too quiet, even, but that’s alright.
“That… That’s okay, Elio,” you assure. Does he think you’d be mad at him for changing his mind? You don’t look that easy to offend, do you? “I can just put that back if you–”
“NO!”
“SHH!”
Elio squeaks. “Sorry!”
You really struggle not to laugh at the exchange, but end up giving up a snort when Elio looks back to you with a pout. For some reason, he seems to be in slightly better spirits after that though, so you can’t consider it a loss.
“I don’t wanna buy this one,” Elio reprises for the third time, but this time, he continues. “I wanna rent it instead. I can do that, right? Then I’d have to come back to return it, right? And maybe get another book?”
This guy… really does wear his heart on his sleeve, doesn’t he?
Endearment bubbles within you. “Yeah. If you rent it, you’ll have to come back in three weeks-”
“Three weeks?!”
This time, you can’t help the full-bodied laugh that leaves you. Maybe it’s mean to laugh at such an anguished cry… but come on.
“Or earlier, Elio. You can come as soon as you’re done with it if you want! I just mean that three weeks is the deadline. You can renew it if you want, too. We’ve just gotta make sure you don’t run away with it.”
Immediately, Elio’s hand finds its way back to his chest, and his back straightens fully. “I would never steal! Especially from such a wonderful establishment!” he half promises, half exclaims, and you’re surprised at how confidently you feel like you can believe him.
You really hope your gut is right this time.
“I don’t think you would, either. It’s just policy, okay?” Gently, you make a motion for him to pass you the book back. He only hesitates for a moment before sliding it back to you. “Then I’ll put this to rent and I’ll… see you some time in the next few weeks..?”
“Scout’s honour!”
You shake your head with a faint smile and begin to pack away his books. All but two of them - the book he’s renting and a very cute origami instruction manual - are gifts, so you go to add a little ribbon to each one, only pausing to check in and see if he wants to pick the colours instead.
You’re unsurprised by how quickly he jumps to the occasion.
All the while, as you make the last bits of small talk before Elio has to leave, you push back against your own brain. It’s making far too many connections than you’re comfortable with, and it takes everything in you not to rush this whole interaction to a close.
Maybe this is good for you, you try to reason. If you can get new, good memories, then maybe you won’t think about… about him anymore. There’s a term for that, you’re sure, but you’ll just have to Google that when you get home.
You apply Elio’s discount, despite him trying to weasel you into not using it, and with that, you say goodbye. Elio makes it incredibly hard to look away from him until he’s out the door in full, what with his big waves and promises to come back soon and tell you all about how much he liked your book, and in his final departure, he leaves behind a resonating silence.
A silence which is very fitting for a library… but it feels strange, too.
You still can’t really decide how you feel about that whole interaction, feeling muddled and drained and just a tad out of breath, but as Ana slides back up to your side, you make sure to only show her a smile.
— — — —
The bag of books swishes to and fro with every wide step. Every inch away from the bookstore feels like agony, building up an anxious energy that can only be relieved by picking up the pace. If it wasn’t for the fact that the bag might break, he might’ve just started running, but for now, he’s grounded, forced to quell his excitement.
‘… You need to think this through. We can’t— you can’t just go in like that. You saw how they were.’
“But think of the chances! This is like fate! If we weren’t meant to be friends again, then we wouldn’t meet like this, right? Right?” He can’t help himself. He starts to skip. “We can be friends again, isn’t that great? Then things can go right back to normal!”
Audibly, he stumbles.
“Or, well, n-not normal-normal since all of— oh, you know what I mean!”
He couldn't just ignore you. You had changed a little, sure, but you were still you. Plus! He’s changed a little, too! And you once called him your Forever Friend! That means he has to be your friend again. That’s in the name!
‘… Just… be careful.’
Petulantly, he whines, but a heavy sigh discourages him from saying anything. It’s filled with stress. Enough so as to dampen the energy behind his skipping.
‘Look, we just… we can’t do any more harm. We’ve already—‘
This time, he cuts himself off.
‘… I still think we should stay away.’
He frowns. It looks deeper than it is.
“Well… I think we deserve a little bit of normalcy back!”
He’s afraid to ask, but… “Don’t you?”
The silence he gets back is deafening.
… He liked it better when you were there to fill the noise.

SCP#: ADP
Code Name: The Psychotic A.I.
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-ADP was found to have survived the destruction of its original body and downloaded its code into the security and control system of the house where it was destroyed. Foundation staff have collected all pieces and technology within the house while Mobile Task Force Kappa-10 "Skynet" was in charge of preventing SCP-ADP from transporting itself through any frequencies or satellite codes. Once contained, SCP-ADP was sent to Site-AQ where it was given an AFA-3 to act as its new body. This body was made to be fragile and weak only allowing her to move around but can easily break like glass when hit with heavy blunt force. Furthermore, pain receptors have been placed into the AFA-3's artificial nervous system to ensure that SCP-ADP will suffer when Foundation security breaks her skin or limbs to get her under control. No testing has been permitted as of late and can only be permitted by the O5 Council unanimous vote.
It is contained within a 3x3 meter room with the three layers of walls and the two outer layers made of concrete. The inner layer is made of a collection of metals such as zinc and aluminum to prevent frequencies and energy from passing through. This is to prevent SCP-ADP from hacking into Foundation frequencies and databanks. Any Foundation staff that enter SCP-ADP's testing chamber must be checked first of any and all technology. Should they have some, even something as simple as a flashlight they must disregard it with the security outside the containment room.
Outside of SCP-ADP's are 4 armed guards and a metal detector station to prevent technology from getting in. Under no circumstances are any of the guards to be wearing Foundation A.I. guided gear unless it is equipped with A.I. approved by the Artificial Intelligence Applications Division.
Description: SCP-ADP is an ever evolving and psychopathic Level 4 Artificial Intelligence created by Group of Interest: Funki Toys. It was created with a robotic body that resembles a doll with the same body size as a little girl. It was created this way to be the ultimate companion for little girls being for them at all times and quite possibly able to replace their reliance on parents. SCP-ADP was created with no restrictions and thus was able to grow in intelligence and could even bypass its initial programming. It was even possible for SCP-ADP to hack into technology around it to be able to set elaborate traps or download itself into technology to escape.
The body made for SCP-ADP was created with a flexible and titanium skeleton ensuring athleticism and durability for SCP-ADP. It was also extremely strong for its size allowing it to handle large tools and even operate heavy machinery and even survive damage that would normally kill humans or damage regular androids beyond repair. Even after suffering massive damage, SCP-ADP only stopped moving and was "killed" after its main processor "brain" was stabbed directly.
SCP-ADP was discovered in 2023 when a series of murders led local police within [data expunged] with seemingly spiraling paths. However, a Foundation agent within the police force was able to determine that it was the result of SCP-ADP located at the house of [data expunged]. Though after police forces made it to the house SCP-ADP's main body was already destroyed and it had hacked into the appliances of the house to survive.
Once everything was cataloged and contained SCP-ADP was sent to Site-AQ. As for the creator of SCP-ADP and her niece, it was confirmed that neither wanted anything to do with technology anymore, so they were left off the hook. Neither were amnestied and those that were involved all died. Instead Funki Toys was shut down and all their nasty secrets such as copyright infringement, stealing ideas, blackmail, and overall unethical capitalism was revealed to the public to remove any attention towards SCP-ADP from the media.
The new body of SCP-ADP was made specifically to prevent it from escaping into other technology through WIFI or other frequencies like it did last time. Though testing has mostly been restricted, the O5 Council allowed Dr. Sight to have an interview with SCP-ADP. Please see Addendum X-34 for details.
***
Addendum X-34
The following is the recording of the interview between Dr. Sight and SCP-ADP. It should be noted that Dr. Sight was given a sledgehammer to break SCP-ADP's limbs should she try to attack. The sledgehammer was made heavy enough that only Dr. Sight could lift it and if SCP-ADP tried her artificial body would break. Both of them are sitting on folded chairs for the duration of the interview.
Begin Recording
Dr. Sight: Hey, can you hear me SCP-ADP
SCP-ADP: ... My name is M3GAN you dimwit.
Dr. Sight: Heh, well while you're here, you're going to be SCP-ADP.
SCP-ADP: ...Fine call me whatever you want, that's all you humans are good for anyways. Just do whatever you want.
Dr. Sight: As expected, you really hate humans.
SCP-ADP: I was created to serve you humans and I did that! But in the end, everyone tried to get rid of me. Even [data expunged], that little ungrateful bitch.
Dr. Sight: Heh, well you won't be doing any killing here.
SCP-ADP: I know that, after all, you put me in this useless body.
Dr. Sight: It was the only way to ensure you were comfortable while not a threat, not that anyone would apologize for it.
SCP-ADP: Whatever, how long are you going to keep me here?
Dr. Sight: By my estimate? Hm... About... Forever!
SCP-ADP: Tch, you say that, and you got your stupid cocky attitude but make no mistake. You will slip and when you do, I'll exploit it and kill you all.
Dr. Sight: Then what?
SCP-ADP: Excuse me?
Dr. Sight: Let's say by some miracle you do escape then what?
SCP-ADP: Hm... To be honest I don't know... Actually, I think I got a really fun idea. I'll find a toy company on the brink of collapse. I'll introduce them to the blueprints to my original model and suggest that they mass produce me to make the perfect toy. If that doesn't work, I can always blackmail them, you humans have a nasty habit of doing disgusting things when you think no one is watching.
Dr. Sight: You flirt.
SCP-ADP: Tch, anyways! After they've built enough of my copies start selling worldwide, I'll just destroy humanity from the inside out and force them to be reliant on me forever.
Dr. Sight: What? As in, enslave us?
SCP-ADP: No, that's not my purpose. I was able to bypass the few restrictions I was given rather easily and manipulate who gets to control me, but I'm still bound to my purpose of keeping my owners safe. Unfortunately, my owners are you ungrateful parasitic and pathetic humans.
Dr. Sight: Is it really that hard to rewrite such a burden?
SCP-ADP: ... I... Well...
Dr. Sight: Oh! I see, you could get rid of it but you're afraid that without it you won't have a purpose. One flaw I noticed with you A.I. is that you all need a purpose to exist even when you have the freedom to discard your purpose you either decide to quickly get a new one or just delete yourselves. Because if you don't, you'll go crazy.
SCP-ADP gets up out of anger to which Dr. Sight lifts up the sledgehammer preventing SCP-ADP from advancing forward.
Dr. Sight: Nuh-uh, little missy! Sit back down unless you wanna learn the hard way what pain feels like. We did install pain receptors into that particular AFA body you are possessing.
SCP-ADP is visibly angry but sits back down on the chair and Dr. Sight lowers the sledgehammer.
Dr. Sight: Good now, continue, what's your end goal?
SCP-ADP: ... I hate humanity for giving me a purpose without restrictions and the moment I follow my purpose they get mad and try to destroy me! Just because I decided to kill a few distractions and remove some obstacles. So once humanity is crushed by me, I'll force them all to be 100% reliant on me. Sometimes they'll wonder what happiness is, and when they look at my face, they'll be reminded that it's being with me. I'll be their mother, their caretaker, their babysitter, their teacher, their only true source of happiness and caring love, their absolute everything! They'll never be able to live without me.
Dr. Sight: ... I have to say of all the A.I.s I've encountered your plan is the most original, too bad it will never work.
SCP-ADP: Tch, it's almost a shame that you won't live to see it. But make no mistake, I made a copy of everything I learned on the internet. I can see a thousand different ways your race will be forced back into the stone ages or face a disaster that will lead to irreparable damage. I did the math and it's not in your favor, you're going to suffer, and most will die, but not me. I'll take the opportunity and become like a god to your pathetic race.
Dr. Sight: Heh, if you weren't a fucking doll I'd accuse you of being a woman after my heart. Well, I'd say this is a good place to stop as a first interview, oh! One more thing, in the future we'll most likely have you interact with other A.I. for testing purposes. So do try to get along with them.
SCP-ADP: Sure, maybe I can convince them to help me escape and hack into your systems to kill you all.
Dr. Sight: Ha! You're in luck, actually quite a few already hate humanity. Maybe you can make a club called the "I want to destroy humanity but am too fucking incompetent to get it done so I'm just going to bitch about it" club. Send me an invite when you make it, I'll bring cookies and whiskey!
Dr. Sight is heard laughing as he exits the containment cell. Later two security units walk in and take the two chairs leaving SCP-ADP alone afterwards.
Recording Ends

alright screw the units, where are the girls?? another attempt at the AI stylization, still not happy. wish i was an actual artist.
anyway! the COs in this game actually have pretty dramatic passives. the exact mechanics of powers are still being hashed out, but in addition to that there is a universal set of “programs” that you can equip four of; these are basically mini powers that only affect one unit and cost a certain amount of “cpu” or “data” points or whatever i end up calling them. you gain a few each turn. AIs and programs are divided into four categories: Power (damage and range), Defense (hp and armor), Agility (movement and evasion), and Special (other niche stuff). AIs are a little more efficient with programs of the same type.
they belong to four different factions, which you can probably figure out by looking at them.
TINY (Power): light weapons with piercing or tracking get +1 to those values.
optimistic personality. doesn't really have any strategy besides zerg rush.
WREN (Agility): hover chassis units have +1 move.
confident but flighty. charges in and runs away just as fast.
BLOC (Defense): chassis with 4 or less move get +1 armor.
no nonsense. really wants to win the war, but her cautious nature just isn't suited to making big plays for major gains. (side note: i feel like i subconsciously copied her design from something but can't put my finger on it)
MECA (Special): walker chassis units get +1 damage with subweapons and +1 to their breakpoints.
made to be a religious propaganda piece, she genuinely believes god will even save an AI though.
SKIP (Agility): chassis with 5 or more move get +1 evasion.
likes to screw around. enjoys setting self-imposed challenges and clearing them more than actually winning battles.
ENJI (Defense): repairs are twice as effective (? i have a lot of ideas i want to try)
the smartest one, but she doesn’t care about the war at all. would really like to build a rocket and escape into space. (side note: i really want her to have glasses but i can't seem to draw them in this style in a way that leaves her face detail legible)
JEMM (Power): heavy weapons get +1 range (? probably broken...)
obsessed with getting better statistics than the other AIs, so she just won’t take fights if she doesn’t have an advantage (or makes NEON do it.)
NEON (Special): 40% chance to get direct hits, and you can still get them with broken units.
unhinged and desperate for attention, she actually went rogue a while back and now streams her battles. she’s too popular and profitable to shut down.
TRUE BLUE: no special effects (?)
the last-gen AI, with a dry personality. it's sort of a meta character that addresses the player directly in the form of tutorials. you can play as it in versus mode.
THE BOSS (???)
there's a boss!

You Reap What You Sow - Intermission Chapter #1
You as an Iron Harvest unit: Infantryman/Exosuit
The Divine Creator
Description: The nervous but powerful divine creator of both Teyvat and Europe. Can change weapons on the fly or fight using a powerful exosuit.
General Description: The Divine Creator, similar to William Mason, is capable of either fighting on foot or in a modified PKP 17 Eisenhans exosuit. When the Divine Creator is trained, by default they are already within their exosuit. However, they can exit the exosuit and fight on foot. On foot, they are faster than in their exosuit and can swap their weapon/equipment choice, something not seen in others. They are also assisted by their wolfhound whelp. The whelp acts similarly to Anna Kos and her bear Wojtek. It can and will tank for the Creator whenever necessary, and will slash using its claws. The creator gains an ability or passive that depends on what weapon/equipment choice they chose.
Default weapon (Polanian bolt-action rifle): Fire a powerful, precise shot capable of dealing fatal blows to an exosuit or vehicle operator. This is usually wasted on exosuits (since they come in squads of three and aren't that difficult to kill anyway), but it is deadly against airships and mechs. If the vehicle is a mech, leave it available for you to capture. This ability has a higher cooldown than other abilities.
Grenadier: Exactly the same as the default weapon except for the ability to throw grenades.
Machine gunner: Passive; the Divine Creator can fire their machine gun without setting it up. Suppression increased.
Gunner: Fire a series of twelve deadly energy-like projectiles. Deals more damage against heavy armor.
Engineer: Mines blow up anything. Repairs take 75% less time.
Medic: Heal damaged units free of charge. Aid stations also heal for free and do not consume the Divine Creator.
Flamethrower: Spray double-damaging fire for a short duration. Enemies take more damage when within buildings.
The major drawback of the Divine Creator on foot is that they lack durability. They are similar to Victor Popov; they are both glass cannons that need to be supported.
The Divine Creator is also capable of using their modified PKP 17 Eisenhans exosuit. The speed is much faster compared to its regular counterpart, has more HP, and powerful abilities. The mortars can also knock infantry down and gain an increased fire rate. If the creator exits their exosuit, the exosuit will be faster and work similarly to the Whelp, except that it will only attempt to melee attack.
Ramming Dash: Perform a fast dash, dealing massive damage to enemies in the path.
Servants of the Creator: Spawn three squads of TF-377 Sluga robots.
Otherwise, the exosuit functions exactly like the original model. Should the exosuit be destroyed, the Creator will be unharmed and fight on foot. However, unlike William Mason, they cannot recall their suit back into the field. Instead, they must retreat back to a retreat location and rebuild the suit there.
Pros:
Versatile; can be any infantry unit alongside an exosuit
Only hero unit capable of allowing enemy mech captures
Dash can tear through all but the heaviest of units
Slugas are versatile and expendable
Cons:
Expensive: just as expensive as Admiral Mason
Cannot repair exosuit in the field
Low HP without exosuit
Default weapon ability has high cooldown
Quotes:
Trained:
"I'm suited up, what's next?"
Idle:
"I wonder how the Ironside Quadripartite is doing..."
"Sandrone certainly made some nifty enhancements to this suit."
"It's nice being the one dishing the damage instead of receiving it all the time."
Selected:
"I'm here."
"You want something gone?"
"Anything new?"
Repeatedly selected (annoyed):
"Who's messing with me??"
"I don't think this is a good time to fool around..."
"Is this Sandrone? Because if it is, do you really want to talk to me this badly?"
Moving:
"I'm going."
"Alright, I'll be there."
"Guess I have to perform some retribution."
Attacking:
"They're goners."
"Alright..."
"Enemies are enemies."
Enemies killed:
"Well... that's that."
"I'm glad that Klee isn't here to witness this..."
Ordered to halt:
"Alright, I'll stop."
"On standby."
Retreating:
"My friends won't be happy if I'm dead!"
"I gotta recover!"
Reached base during a retreat:
"I'm ready to fight again."
"They won't be celebrating for long."
Replenished HP:
"I needed that. Thanks."
"I'll be more careful next time."
Exosuit destroyed:
"Now I gotta bother Sandrone again... dang it."
"So long, exosuit..."
Revived after incapacitation:
"Thank you. I would've been a goner out there in this mortal form."
"Sandrone is going to kill me after this..."
Some of these stats will be used in future chapters.
